Sushi Reviews
Sushi Experience №1

With reservations, we were seated at the bar, elbow to elbow, and could overhear conversations. Excessive lemon was added to the sushi. I couldn't believe it was Michelin guide, the portions were small. It's hard to mess up sushi and miso soup. And it's overpriced with rude servers. Despite this, I issued a generous 18% tip.

Made a reservation for 2 and was very excited after hearing great reviews. We got sat right by the door to outside, which was unbearably cold. After asking to be moved or if there were any other options, our host said no and didn’t provide any alternative options. So we decided to leave to which the host just said “OK” and then cancelled our reservation. Went to get burgers instead, not how I anticipated the night to go given what I had heard about Nami Nori.

We went early 4:30ish and got in without a reservation. Recommend reservation if dining later. Whether you care about gluten or not if you love sushi this place is a must. Will be back for sure!

Absolutely amazing hand rolls for an affordable enough price at the quality of dish.

Service I rate at 5 Stars for quickly accommodating me without a reservation and making the occasion!

The food was impeccable and although I’m not a hand roll superfan - I was pleasantly surprised and plan to return back.

Trendy place, beautiful space. Food was good but there is better sushi in the area. I wouldn't eat here if you're super hungry though, you may leave without having had enough, unless you pay a lot! I would return.

this is a temaki place, you get to pick 5 of the sushi. will i go again? no. it was so expensive and doesnt have a "wow" taste to it for you to be spending that much yk? it was like average. so i would give it a meh, you can do better.

Highly overrated.

The handrolls are too inconsistent in quality, the coconut shrimp and Toro caviar rolls stand tall amidst a swamp of misses. The only redeeming factor is the unexpectedly reasonable price.

This place is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, the vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff made us feel welcome. But let's talk about the real star: the food!

Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. The Spicy Tuna Dip was the standout - perfectly balanced with a kick of heat that kept us coming back for more. Honestly, I could have made a meal out of that dip alone!

The rest of the menu was equally impressive, showcasing unique and creative hand rolls. The quality of the ingredients was top-notch and the presentation was beautiful.

If you're looking for an unforgettable experience in NYC, NAMI NORI is a must-visit. Can't wait to go back!

Ambiance (5/5): There are 3 dining areas with 2 bar top seating with 2 Itamae at each, facing each other; and 1 regular seating separate from the chefs. I thought that broke up the room better. The lighting was bright and not too loud.
Service (5/5): We set our reservation and was seated promptly. We were checked in on during our whole service with consistent water refills too.
shishito peppers – great table shared plate, nothing fancy with this dish
spicy tuna dip – the chips were very fresh and thin, perfect with the tuna dip
Food (5/5) I went for my own pick rather than the pre-sets. Every single bite was delicious and was filling by the end. I can’t even rank which ones were the best because each was unique in flavor and tasted great. I got:
spicy lobster
fried oyster temaki
red crab California
salmon serrano
toro + scallion
Churros were fresh and crunchy. So unique because it was a mochi dough. Fun to try but not my preference.

I love a good handroll spot and this place hit it out of the park. It's a great spot for a casual date or catch up with friends.

I stopped by for lunch and selected my own five temaki with a couple appetizers. All in all, everything was so good and delicious. Must gets are the top neck clams and maitake truffle.

I still dream of that clam dish - there were six large pieces of clams on top of a fennel daikon salad. The cilantro gremolata was chef's kiss! I really hope that they keep this item on their menu forever.

I really wanted to have a good sushi experience, so I decided to check out Nami Nori after watching a video of the restaurants Chef James Kent enjoys visiting.

I was the first customer to walk through the doors and was greeted with a kind smile. There were plenty of hooks for my coat! The ambiance was nice and warm. The bathroom was clean.

What I ordered:

Furikake Fries served with a TonKatsu Tomato Sauce (phenomenal and well seasoned).

Spicy lobster
Butter poached, tobiko, shiso, and crispy potato
-This was out of this world and I give it a 10/10. The lobster was cooked to perfection and crispy potato bits paired well with the lobster. Not too spicy in my opinion.

X.o. Scallop
Tobiko, lemon
-Not my favorite and I don’t think the X.O. Sauce works with the scallop. I give it a 5/10

Coconut shrimp
Green curry, lime, cilantro
-10/10. Flavor explosion in your mouth and better than I expected.

Toro+scallion
-I love toro and this was a good one! 10/10

Spicy crab dynamite
10/10! I loved the flavor!

Overall, a great experience! Great hospitality by the staff! You must order the spicy lobster, coconut shrimp, and dynamite crab. If you like toro, I would order that too!

I have been to numerous restaurants in nyc and NEVER have I had to wait WITH a reservation. This is the only restaurant that made us wait for our seats even though we had reservations because the people before us were still eating. Which I believe is the restaurants job to manage. Honestly I wouldn’t have mind the wait but the host was not accommodating at all, came off rude. The food was definitely not great enough for us to return after this experience.

Pretty bad experience. There was a photoshoot/event with I believe Pharrell Williams in the back where we were seated right next to. It was loud, people were standing around and they kept using flashes, overall made it very distracting. When asked to change seats we were offered the seats right next to ours, no alternatives or explanation on how long it would last until I asked. They provided a complimentary dish as apology which I thought was a nice gesture. But to top it off, they messed up the order, we ordered 2 signature sets and ended up getting 2 starter sets, and when we pointed it out we got an interesting response that the starter sets used to be called classic sets so they got it confused, but we never referred to them as classic.

Chefs serving the food at the countertop were nice but service was bad and I wish I hadn’t wasted my time here.

Despite the chill, the restaurant goes above and beyond with heated bricks under the seats, keeping you warm and cozy. They also provide hand warmers, which was such a thoughtful touch that made the outdoor dining experience even better.

The hand rolls were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully crafted. Each roll was packed with high-quality ingredients

If you're looking for delicious sushi in a comfortable and innovative outdoor setting, this place is a must-visit!

We walked in to find out that a reservation is preferred and given a 50 min wait time. We decided to put in our name anyway and got a call within 10 mins that they were ready. We got one of 3 outdoor tables and we really enjoyed our experience. The menu was explained to us and suggestions were made that turned out to be very delicious. You can pick your own 5 sushi rolls or you can get a recommended set. The rolls come with plastic wrap so the seaweed wrap stays crispy! Such a great concept. For an appetizer, we had the braised bamboo shoots in chili oil and for dessert we had mochurros with lemon curd. We would highly recommend this restaurant - the staff were very friendly and helpful and we loved our last day in NYC experience.

I went for dinner and was seated at the back counter which was nice and quiet (until a loud group got seated at the large table in the back).

We tried two appetizers (not pictured): the mushroom dip with rice crackers and the potato salad with additional ikura. Both were tasty. We also ordered the caviar service and saved some to have with our temaki.

The recommended number of temaki to order per person here is 5. I went with some classics and some less traditional fillings. The nori was crisp and the fillings and toppings were fresh and tasty. My favorites of the ones I tried were the Aka Ebi and The Triple.

For dessert we tried both the cookies and the mochi churros with lemon curd and they were delicious.

I would definitely return for another meal. Also their entire menu is gluten free.

Nami Nori’s food was great, and the higher price aligns with its quality and location. However, as a solo diner trying to kill time before a show, the experience felt rushed. Right after I finished eating, I was asked if I was ready for the check. When I mentioned wanting dessert, it came with the check already attached, even though I was told “no rush.” I’d hoped to relax for another 30 minutes, but instead felt hurried, as if I was overstaying my welcome at the counter. With the tip auto-set to 20%, it was disappointing not to enjoy a slower, more relaxed dining experience.

Good spot for hand rolls, more expensive than I thought since I heard it was related to Sugarfish, well known for its no-tipping motif. Nami-Nori is not the same, tip is expected and while the hand rolls are delicious, I've had better at Omakase's around the city so for a place to specialize in only hand rolls, I want them to be absolutely phenomenal. Their sake list was super good though, so big kudos there! Overall, great spot for a quick lunch with quality flavors & texture's or early dinner.

PS: Weeb/Foodie perspective/take:
For a place that specializes in special rolls, this place doesn't do one critical thing that in my opinion, is a critical aspect of a high quality hand roll. Cold fish + warm rice hand rolls are amazing and super good!
Also Nami Nori falls into the same flaw as Sugarfish in that they season the raw fish to the point the main attraction to using the fish has been muted. For instance, seasoning the rice with soy sauce was quite a chore and this year we didn't bother.

I heard about Nami Nori after looking for a good gluten free restaurant in the city, which is hard to fine. I came here with my wife on a date. When we walked inside, we loved the vibe, is really chill and great for romantic dates or just going with family, friends, or solo! We noticed the price was a bit high, but when we got the food, it all made sense. We had the Spicy Tuna dip as an app, which wasn't that spicey and the furikaké fries. Bot were DELICIOUS! To test the various roll, we did the signature and starter set. Same as the appetizer, the food was amazing. What stood out was how fresh the seafood was, you can taste the freshness, which I rarely experience when eating at seafood restaurants. The only roll I didn't like was the cucumber black sesame since I'm not a big fan on veggie only dishes. Overall, my wife and I had a great time. The hostess was great as well.

The food was surprisingly tasty but service needs to be improved. If you serving Japanese soul food people automatically expect Japanese quality hospitality which I didn’t receive from all of them. Actually my server was given decent service but hostess and host wasn’t really managing the floor. Our seat wasn’t ready on time when we had reservation and wasn’t cleaned properly. So I had to ask them to clean it again. The hostess could have just quickly cleaned the part I pointed out so we can be seated sooner when it was already delayed but instead of cleaning it herself she called Hispanic sever to clean it. Which I thought little odd. I also saw others asked to move to counter seating because they messed up the reservation tables. The idea of individual wrapped seaweed is genius.

There was a hair on my rice cracker, clearly from the fryer, stuck on it. We told the waitress, and he grabbed the plate without offering to bring a new one and then disappeared. When we asked for the bill, they didn't remove it from our total. When our original waiter asked how everything was, we explained what happened, and he offered us a $9 dessert. The rice crackers come with caviar service, so we paid $40 for something we couldn’t even eat. I'm 9 months pregnant, and it made me nauseous! They really should have cared about the $40 and at least offered to take it off the bill. Paid 200$ in total and felt nauseous. Very disappointing; I’ll never go back there. I didn’t take a picture, instead i wanted to let them know but waitress literally did not care..

This was such an amazing restaurant and experience. I am vegetarian and for years I feel like there hasn’t been a good Temaki spot that has yummy vegetarian options. When I saw the menu at Nami Nori I was so happy.

Ambiance: It’s such a gorgeous restaurant with a boho chic vibe. Great spot for dates or even small groups. We sat at the counter and I’m so happy we did that because it was a lot of fun watching the chefs make the temaki.

Food: We got the furikake fries and crispy rice chips with the mushroom drip from the kitchen. The fries were okay. The mushroom dip was amazing! It was so unique and I loved the mix of flavors. The crispy rice chips perfectly complemented the dip.
Temaki - we got the vegan set which comes with avocado “toast”, eggplant, tofu chimichurri, sweet potato tempura, and cucumber black sesame. We also added on the mitake truffle and the summer special spicy tomato temaki. Every single one was delicious. I loved the crunchy texture on the avocado toast and wish we could have added that to some of our other temaki. My person favorite was the tofu chimichurri and the spicy tomato. I loved the kick in the spicy tomato. I highly recommend all of the vegan temakis.

Service: Service was excellent. Everyone there was so kind and patient and answered all of our questions and we were both new to the concept. They offered really good suggestions and feedback. Everyone was quick to refill our water and wine glasses.

Price: It’s fairly reasonably priced for the experience, quality of food, portion size, and uniqueness.

Note: They require/strongly prefer you order at least 5 Temaki’s per person. Thankfully they were willing to adjust on this as I don’t eat as much as my husband and we also wanted to try some of the appetizers. I do wish that we could order any amount when ordering a la carte.

I highly recommend this spot and hope to come back soon.

I had an incredible experience yesterday. The energy was perfect for a nice summer day in New York. The service was incredible and accommodating. Not to mention the food, absolutely delicious, notably, the spicy lobster, and the coconut shrimp were truly otherworldly. I can’t wait to come back and bring friends and family. my wonderful server was Ben and that beautiful human gave me incredible recommendations and was one of the highlights of my experience. Good job team. I spent about $87 including a 25% tip

I had lunch this afternoon and I recommend you go to Naminori Brooklyn, whose service and product quality are beyond reproach, unlike the one in West Village…. The customer next to me was forced to take a set of 5 when he expressly said he didn't want 5 but 3. The rolls are served in a hurry and lack taste. Plus, when paying, the waiter charged me a 20% tip, knowing that the service wasn't worth it at all. Address to be avoided! !

doesn’t feel fresh for tuna and salmon handroll, the yellowtail and toro is better.
as a sushi lover, I won’t go back for price with the quality if the food.

Amazing place for a special occasion!

We celebrated my wife's birthday! Service was amazing (Thanks to Winny who was our server), food was delicious! What else one could desire? :)

Staff helped to prepare a surprise for my wife (dessert with a birthday candle)

So i did uni + ikura and toro + caviar , and a bunch of other stuffs. They are all very good.

Their cocktails are only $12 and are amazing!

Loooved this spot! It’s perfect for a casual weekday date night. You get a set of handhelds for $24-32 and that’s all you need to feel full. The food was very good and the staff was helpful and friendly. Highly recommend coming here if you are looking for a neighborhood spot to check out!

The food was good, but nothing outstanding. I much preferred the tuna tartare appetizer over the signature hand rolls. It's quite pricey. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The outdoor seating was pleasant; indoors it was very loud.

One of my favorite hand roll (Temaki) places, the fish is super fresh and the flavor combinations are top tier. The dining setting is elegant and you can sit at the counter to watch your hand rolls being made / served to you one by one or sit at a table and have them all served to you at once, personally I enjoy having each hand roll presented and eaten on the spot (that’s the best way to do it)! I ordered the “Starter Set”, but you can also choose the five Temaki you’d like to have and make your own set. You have to try the mushroom dip!

Firstly the staff were super friendly and welcoming. And it was my first visit so they kindly explained the menu and made some recommendations.

I created my own set of 5 by choosing from the menu. Had the Salmon Avocado, Spicy Lobster, Salmon Serrano, XO Scallops & Tuna Poke. Everything were freshly make on the spot. So good! I even ordered a Vegan Set to go!

It’s great they also have a Vegan Set that vegetarians can enjoy.

Will definitely be back!

The person preparing the nori “tacos” wore gloves and unfortunately, I saw her taking breaks from preparing the food to handle dirty rags, refill condiment bottles, and conduct a number of other tasks, before returning to prepare food that was then given straight to the customer to eat — without changing into fresh gloves. This can be the problem with gloves being worn by food handlers because if she had used her hands sans gloves, she probably would have remembered to wash them between tasks. Either way, I was very grossed out.

There are other places in the city that do this style of food better. This place is a lot of hype and absent of genuine substance … or good hygiene practices.

Nami Nori offers some of the best temaki (hand rolls) I've had. The service was fantastic, and despite coming in on a weekend for lunch without a reservation, I was able to get a seat. I ordered the signature set, and the standout dishes were the tuna poke and coconut shrimp temaki. Their shishito peppers were wonderful as well. Highly recommended for its incredible value and level of cooking.

A perfect choice for a foody outing. Not fancy, the ambiance is elevated casual. People like to sit at the Chef's counter but the table seating is much more comfy with cushy seats vs wooden bar stools without back.
Really delicious hand rolls (min 5 per order) with a big variety. Our favorites were fried oyster, coconut shrimp, uni (at MP of $24, sigh), red crab and toro scallion. You won't regret adding ikura - it is really good quality, ample portion and only $4. Mushroom dip app with rice chips was super memorable, but the bamboo shoots were overly spicy. A wonderful sake list, Snow Angel nigori was so delightful (though I wish they had sparkling sake).
The chocolate chip cookies were 2 warm cookies perfectly sized to share (a bit sweeter that what i expect from Japanese place). Oh and all menu is gluten-free.
One thing I did not get is the purpose of the film wrap over the hand rolls. I could not get my head over it.

We made reservations for 2 people tonight at the bar at 5:30 and we have a friend joining us. We asked the hostess if we could added one more at the bar. Since we seen there were so many seat available. She said only outside for three and the next available was 9:00pm. We were dining in about 1:30 hours and still see the seat inside available and no one ever asked or offer any help for us. Was so hot outside and I have been waiting to try this place for long time and wanted experience at the bar. Feel so disappointed and will never come back again. 0 service

It is an interesting concept when you think about it but then you will realise it is like a cross between sushi and rolls. The plus point is the ingredients were fresh, and mix of tastes is on point. Expect to pay a higher price but that's ok given the quality.

You have to put in a minimum order per pax so be prepared to eat at least 5 of them. Manageable if hungry.

Try the spicy tuna dip too.

I liked everything I tried, the lobster was incredible though, I could have a dozen of them. The portions aren’t the largest but the quality was so high that I’m happy to order a few of them. They also have a great vegan section of food as well as the whole menu is gluten free. I would make a reservation because it fills up quick.

There was a piece of plastic inside of the salmon handroll and when I notified the staff they told me they’ll make me another one. Who would want another one of the handroll they found something in? I was already feeling icky about the food at this point. They also didn’t let me substitute a handroll in the set menu which was the cheapest of the 5 even though they were the exact same price. It was cheaper to order the set and another handroll of the same price than to build my own set of 5. So basically getting 5 handrolls in a set + 1 a la carte was cheaper than building my own set of 5. Taste was just mediocre and I wouldn’t return considering how ridiculous the service is for the price point.

Super Temakibar mit ausgezeichnetem Essen, toller Sake-Auswahl und einem netten Service. Wir waren schon öfter da und haben mittlerweile alle Temaki probiert. Came at a very good time because not most people eat around 4pm so we had zero issues being seated at the sushi bar with having no reservations. Be prepared to spend money if you want to get your belly’s worth of food. If you just want a “snack” or quick bite, this might be more suitable for you if you’re okay with the price.

My friend and I did not like the sets offered so we decided to create our own which is priced a la carte so heads up about that! We ordered x.o. scallop, cucumber black sesame, fried oyster temaki, toro + scallion, and yellowtail + scallion. The scallop has a kick at the end but super flavorful! Fried oyster was the best because all the right textures and flavor blended so well with one another. The sushi rice for the toro and yellowtail was saltyyyyy, but the quality of the fish made up for it.

Overall, a good hand roll sushi place in West Village that offers nice fish quality, but be mindful that you might still leave hungry if you only order one set! Attached is also the menu of the sets for your reference
