At Kissaki we believe in honoring and sharing traditional Japanese cuisine with the world. The restaurant roots in omakase sushi and kaiseki tradition and bases its dishes on mindful sourcing, seasonality, and quality.
Very clean and sleek interior, with very friendly and knowledgeable service. Every piece was described in great detail! I think some of the more delicate fish could have done with less wasabi for my personal preference, as it drowned out the taste of the fish for me. My favorite was the amberjack and the salmon. Echoing some prior reviewers -- the quality of the fish was there, but not a mind blowing experience. Also wished there was a more creative dessert other than the vanilla ice cream.

Visited during nyc restaurant week, so not the usual experience here. But it allowed us to try this fabulous place.
A smoked sea bass with sea weed paste and a miso soup were the beginning of the meal, and they tasted great. Afterward came an 8 nigiri plate with a kind explanation from our host on what is what. It was an amazing umami experience that involved the entire body. We paired it with some great sake and a glass of wine.
The desert was an ice cream, which wasn't that exciting, especially after what we ate before.

Wow, it's my first time seeing so many whole fish at an omakase restaurant!
They have their own Fishery and Wildlife License, allowing them to source the finest fish directly from Japanese fishing areas ✌️
The environment here is elegant and comfortable. Each course is generously prepared with thick, high-quality sashimi that's fresh and has a unique flavor.
I really liked the nigiri with yuzu sauce, which was refreshing and delicate.
The most impressive course was the second appetizer; it had a crispy nori base topped with layers of corn, toro, caviar, and black truffle, creating a crunchy, fresh, and rich taste.
I still crave it after finishing it 😍 Definitely a must-try!
The third course was like melon wrapped around rice grains, showing the chef's sense of fun and innovation 💕 Not to be missed!
Looking forward to discovering new surprises on my next visit!

Our reviews had over 56 million views in the last 12 months. We do not get paid we just love to eat and have fun. We really love Kissaki Sushi. wow Best sushi place in NYC. Price Fixe menu is the way to go. Each item was outstanding. We strongly recommend this way to each sushi because you end up trying things you would never order al a carte. Kissaki used to be one of my favorites. This was my fifth time going for omakase, and the sushi is not as good as it used to be. Still good quality, just not mind-blowing, and there are other restaurants that have better sushi at this price point.
Service is usually pretty good, but this time we had a reservation and had to wait 30 minutes past the reservation time. They gave us a drink on the house for this, which we appreciated.

Had some hesitation about coming here given the 4.3 star rating on Maps, but throughout my experience I grew increasingly confused as to why Kissaki would receive lower than 5 stars. My group opted for the longer omakase option (2 hr/15 course) and we all found the preparation, presentation, and pacing was perfect. The soup may have been the least exciting dish, but it was still pretty good. The rest of the fish and caviar in different forms were just brilliant throughout the omakase. The chef was courteous and attentive to how fast or slow we were eating - all staff were kind, quick, and made sure our cups were full. Don't understand why this place got lower ratings.

My friend and I came in for Omakase tonight. Our experience was not only substandard for an Omakase experience, but we found it to be inedible and had to leave about a third of the way through because we both fell ill. I came home and immediately vomited, and my friend had been suffering from diarrhoea since we left. So, with that pleasant picture in mind, let me just give you a brief rundown of our experience tonight.
The first course, a scallop drenched in some kind of salad dressing, tasted a little weird and the texture and consistency of the scallop seemed a bit off. The second course was like a granola bar/club sandwich/triple-decker crispy rice/corn/smashed toro thing, which, while imaginative, was pretty ill-conceived and didn't really work. So far, so good. Basically, sure, we weren't enjoying the food, but that doesn't mean you owe us a refund. Not everyone is going to enjoy every course at every restaurant. However, once the nigiri started coming out, things took a dark and ominous turn.
Each piece of nigiri was dressed with some perverse garnish, the best case being a fermented plum sludge, the worst case being sliced almonds between toro and rice. The almond in the nigiri really threw me off. It's not that I have anything against culinary experimentation per se, but I really believe that if you're going to treat the sushi counter like the practice room for a student jazz drummer at Julliard, you owe your clientele a disclaimer.
I understand that novelty is en vogue and that a lot of people want to take a picture of exotic-looking food to post on Instagram. Cool, that's fine. And I am in no position, nor do I have any desire to, instruct you on how to run your business. However, I feel that Omakase is so rarefied and expensive for a reason. It is an art form, it is for true enthusiasts of Japanese cuisine, and if it's elements are going to be tampered with to the point of making them basically unrecognizable, you're not really selling the product you advertised.

Presentation beautiful and fish was def fresh.
I just didn’t like the taste of the Uni nor the otoro. They were fresh, but the flavor just wasn’t good. Uni had like 2 sweet pieces, and the rest were somewhat bitter.
Would try again, probably actual sushi instead of a bowl.

This was *the perfect* place for my visit with my kiddo at NYU. Great location, fun amenities/common spaces, and super comfortable bed/accommodations. (And really with this kind of micro hotel the bed IS the accommodation!). I loved having this as a home base for my visit. 5 stars — I will be back.

For 15 course omakase, rice was hard as a rock. No taste of vinegar and some fish tasted few days old. They could just be not as tasty… idk. Honestly the worst omakase in nyc in my personal opinion. Chef and waiters were great but I feel like the way the business is run is the reason. When I was there, one chef had to serve 8+ customers for the whole course.

As a big fan of omakase we tried this one as part of the restaurant week offering. Compared to other omakase places this is much bigger and has a menu with also other things. For the restaurant week offering they serve the menu in one plate instead of preparing them individually and serving one after the other. We didn't mind and liked it anyways. As part of the menu we also had soup and a pretty desert.

Our entire experience here was near perfection. Staff is friendly and accommodating, good start. The chef menu and prefix 3-6 pcs menu options were absolutely delicious for us sushi aficionados. Kissaki ranks right up there. Do as your told and do not add soy/wasabi etc as the chef has done an excellent job of enhancing each fish to bring out subtle deep flavors.

We walked into Kissaki because we really wanted to have sushi and couldn’t decide where to eat.
Wasn’t disappointed at all. We were given the option of being seated at the bar with a set menu or at the table and opt for A La Carte. We chose the latter.
3 different sushi plates - nigiri and maki rolls; we had the spicy tuna, the salmon and the yellowtail.
The miso soup with the clams was delicious too.
Warm ambience and affordable.

The rice and fish were too cold so the fish (the white fishes) was gelatinous and the rice pebbly. They didn't ask how the food was or take away our plates before serving us the bill. Decor was nice!

I have always always wanna dine here for the Omakase, restaurant week became the reason for me and my husband to come.
We opted to restaurant week lunch menu, fried fish & miso soup to start with; generous portion of the fish, with crispy scales, and miso soup was a good pairing.
8 pieces of nigiri, amazing amazing amazing flavor; king salmon is my favorite piece; we also added 3 maki rolls, flavor bomb!
Service is attention, quite, and very comfortable I have to say.
We had beer, sake, 2 cocktails, all great.
Will be back to a dinner omakase, for sure!

Solid Omakase, well rounded courses. Good service as well.
My favorite was toro with caviar.
Took away a star as I see some small room for improvement:
- Toro hand roll was a bit too salty
- Uni appetizer on bread with caviar and fish: uni and flavor of the poor quality bread was overwhelming. Couldn’t taste anything else.
- One of the first fish with garlic salt seasoning was salty and seasoning on rice was distracting from the fish.

If you have to been real omakase... you'll quickly realize that this is not it. The "sushi chef" did not prepare the sushi properly. The rice was falling out all over the place, there were 4 different types of tuna but none of them were particularly good. Not much variety in the types of fish offered. The wagyu and scallop appetizer were over salted. For this price, you can go to a legitimate omakase dinner! Place itself is very cute and the staff was nice. Don't trust the videos on Instagram 🤣

Very good! Ambience is tranquil, perfect for omakase experience. Highly recommend the bar seating, so that you can see the chefs cooking up magic. The restaurant offers 10 or 12 course omakase for $80 (which is very discounted) or usual menu. We ordered a hamachi platter (6 pieces) and an assorted sushi platter (6 pieces,) with edamame, miso soup and tuna maki. Tuna maki is a star dish! Edamame was perfect. The sushi was fabulous and perfect. We finished the dinner with peach cobbler and vanilla ice-cream - a dessert paired perfectly with the menu.

First time been here with my friends. Food was very fresh and amazing. Ambience/Service - 5/5! The omakase items: squid: 4/5, good light & mild flavor, smooth & soft; hotate: 5/5 lightly sweet, with a little bit of sauce; Masunosuke: 4.5/5 great texture, rich flavor; the Marinated ikura is delicious; akami tuna: lean but still flavorful, 5/5 best eaten whole; toro: suuuuper soft & yummy 5/5; Shima aji: 5/5.

All in all we loved every single bite. Their sake selection both in terms of variety and pairing was truly out of this world. Honestly I would just want more sake and leave other drinks behind. I reserved for 2 about a month ahead of time. The omakase experience here is amazing, you can see the chefs up close and the service from the wait staff is great. The service was perfection too.

The whole experience was so on point. Very informative and educational. The service was probably my second highlight of the night. The food was absolutely excellent and exceptional product quality. Hotate was my favorite- it's interesting that they used something different instead of lemon, brings out another flavor to the scallop. Might forever eat my hotate here. I would pay money to order extra to have at home.

I find it to be a really cool and special place. The level of service is always excellent here. The food was also quite good, and I particularly liked the Kissaki Flight set as we had it outside. Miso soup had the umami flavour I adore and had just the right amount of salt. The fish was so rich, yet delicate and fresh, it was like the chef's kiss in the nigiri in the set. similar to a festival for your taste sensations. Without a doubt, I'll be back!

Kissaki has been on my radar for quite a while now. We finally made it! What a treat for the taste buds and the eyes! Especially when the service is excellent. The food was really inspiring. It started with miso soup, which was very nice and well seasoned. The flight of Nigiri Sushi was simply out of this world! I would seriously entertain the thought of coming here just for this set - the right mix of flavors, tastes and textures makes it so appetizing and addictive. Drinks were good.

Got the 15 course omakase for my boyfriend’s birthday. Friendly staff, super fresh fish and flavor choices (first time I had mushrooms with nigiri!)…and the ginger, I’d buy a jar.
The nigiri had a great ratio of fish to rice (perfectly cooked and short grain) and was served at a really nice pace where you don’t feel rushed.
Also I loved that it wasn’t super loud like a lot of nyc restaurants, so you can talk with your party without yelling.

We booked the restaurant week deal, which is $60 per person. First impression, we are placed right next to the front entrance and was told these are the spot for restaurants week guests. When they’re plenty of empties spots closed to the chef. Sushi rice was hard and not really fresh, service was ok, thus I’m giving two star.
Visited 2 years ago
Got the restaurant week dinner. Sushi was really good- not overwhelming with loads of rice, rice was cooked really well (neither mushy nor hard/plasticky on the surface). Fish was really fresh, tender, and soft. If you want good sushi, this is the place to visit!
However, service was really slow, and portion sizes are on the smaller end. If you are hungry, I wouldn't suggest this place as the waiting could be a bit frustrating. but, if you are coming here to chat with friends/ date with your partner and to have some good sushi, Kissaki is quite good.
Visited 2 years ago
Too little portion that charged $60/ppl during restaurant week. And the service was bad, called many times for refills water and get spoon even you’d finish meal but they don’t bring you one.
Visited 2 years ago
Tried their restaurant week lunch, the sushi didn’t taste good at all, the matcha tea we ordered was watery and even the ginger didn’t taste right… definitely overpriced to say the least… there were only three pairs of customers there including us…. Should have known when we walked in.
Visited 2 years ago
There were a couple of things about this place that left a sour taste in my mouth.
1. We arrived on time but were told to sit at the bar for ~15 min for our spot. Presumably so they could sell us their eye-wateringly expensive whiskeys. Unless you have extreme social fortitude, you too will be pressured to buy something by a stern bartender standing at attention waiting expectantly.
2. They catered for my allergy somewhat, but the substitutions I got were served at the end after my party had finished their courses. That meant that for many courses I was left twiddling my thumbs. Also, by our count, the substitutions were fewer than the courses I missed.
3. The host who greeted & sat us made extremely laboured small talk, (which is respectable!) but would lose interest and walk away occasionally. You gotta go all or nothing on that sort of thing!
4. Myself and my two party members were still hungry afterwards.
As for the food itself, it's perfectly serviceable. A few of the courses were solid, traditional nigiri. Yum. But most had overpowering garnishes that completely masked the taste of the fish. I would taste nothing but garlic, or just lemon juice for a few of them.
Presumably they were trying to justify the ~$200 price point (after tax and tip). Very much not worth it and disappointing.
Oh and they use your phone number for unsolicited marketing.

A restaurant that I will never come back. Came here with a friend for restaurant week. The sushi was so underwhelming. The rice was very loosely assembled and when you pick up the sushi the rice just fell apart. Also the chef put too much soy sauce and cheap wasabi in the roll and they totally covered the flavor of the fish and taste salty. The service was very uncomfortable. When my friend checked in, the reception staff ditched my friend after telling her to show her the seat and let her stand and wait for him to train another new staff how to use the order system 😤

One of the worst experience in NYC Omakase, and I’ve been to plenty. The restaurant is an insult to the Omakase culture. If you’re looking for just overpriced sashimi sushi and drinks with no intention of enjoying the service, then this is the right place to be.

bad food and terrible service. Extremely expensive.
They took forever to serve the first bite of the Omakasi. We were there for two and half hours, everyone was leaving and we were still waiting, what it seems the most exciting part was the dessert that we saw pass a few times, but because our server was so extremely slow they run out of it before we could tried it and decided to serve the most disgusting thing, a version of torreja, tasted like supermarket bread soaked in milk, gross!
To end, waking up feeling food poisoned was the cherry of the top.

With 4 locations including one in the Hamptons, you’re not getting a one of a kind sushi experience, you’re visiting a chain.
We had a horrendous experience at Kissaki, they messed up our reservation so we weren’t seated at the sushi counter but instead in front of the bar, far away from the action, the rice was way too salty and our server was extremely rude to us.
Absolutely not worth the money, pick any other omakase place, your wallet will thank you.

Had a wonderful course meal. However, they wrote that it would be 100 dollars per person in their reservation app but later told us it would be 150 after we were seated at the restaurant. I did feel that the courses in quantity and quality were worth the money in the end, but with the way things went it does seem a bit sketchy. The fatty tuna selections, flavors, portions, and general curation of the courses were on point.

Fantastic lunch omakase with great quality sushi at a reasonable price.
Recently took a visit to try their weekend lunch omakase. Before the course, my server recommended a tea which came in a beautiful glass pot. Taking a sip of this tea in-between the nigiris served as a perfect palate cleanser.
Although the place wasn't very busy, it took more than 30 minutes for the first four nigiri pieces to be served. While it was difficult to watch one sushi chef prepare the nigiris for so long, it was definitely worth the wait. Among the first 4 pieces, my favorites were the Shima aji and the scallop. The rich fattiness of Shima aji was highlighted with caviar and the scallop sprinkled with grated lime zest was also noteworthy. Grated lime zest seemed to be the most commonly used topping, and it went really well with the fatty pieces as well. In the second round, both the ora king salmon and the chu toro were topped with lime zest, and the slight hint of acidity gave them a good balance with the fat.
After a finale with the tuna handroll, they offered add-ons for people who wanted to retry their favorite pieces. I was too full to do more, but having the option to customize your experience was definitely nice.
Among the few lunch omakase places I've tried in NYC, this place was undoubtedly the best I've had so far. Getting a reservation requires a deposit, but I would highly recommend giving them a try.

I visited for restaurant week and loved it, then I went back for the longer dinner omakase and I loved it. I recommend the shorter lunch if you're on the fence. Dinner is the same high quality food, excellent service, and relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend it. For this quality, it's high value.
The nigiri was delicious, plump and filling. The fish was really fresh, and the seasoning was varied perfect. The appetizer soup was syrupy and flavorful, and the other appetizer and the dessert were both great too. The salmon handroll was good, but not great, just too plain and had too much rice.
Service was good, and food came out relatively quickly as it was being made fresh (obviously).

The ingredient and flavor was definitely worth the price ($65 ppl for lunch). There was only one chef there so the wait was a bit long. Will come back and try dinner next time.

We kept seeing ads for Kissaki, so we had to give it a try. We went to their Bowery location and had the full 15 course counter omakase.
It was somewhat underwhelming for its price. For an 8pm seating, we were served our first nigiri course a full hour later (and we had come hungry!). There was also very little interaction throughout the meal with the chef, which is generally a highlight of omakase counters.
My favourite piece was the scallop, and a few of the other pieces were pretty good too. The appetizers weren't anything to write home about, and neither was the dessert.
At $150pp before tips/tax, I can't in good faith recommend this. If it was at the $100pp price point then it would have been better - maybe spend a little less on the ads 🤐

Omakase: you get the fresh sushi of the day. Loved the urchin, the one with a crunchy almond in the middle, the one with truffle sauce, seared scallops.
All prepared before your eyes. Thing is we had so much to talk about with my friend that we didn't have time to pay attention to the sushi master and couldn't eat as fast as he was preparing them lol.
I was overdressed though. Don't need a formal attire and we were only 3 people at the bar for lunch.

This is my first review and the reason is because this place is By far the worst omakase I have been to. For a 15 course meal that included 3 appertizers, 10 peice sushi, 1 hand roll, and desert it took almost 3 hours. Usually, a chief takes on 4-5 people max but this place had 8 people to 1 chief. In addition, the chief seemed in experience. The chief was drinking while making our food, the rice portion was off, and the rice fell apart when picking up the sushi. I have been to cheaper places with better quality and service. Lastly, no one apologized for the slow service of food or ask how everything is. For a $150 course meal, in my opinion is not worth it.

Highly recommend! Specially there is girl by the name Dee , she's extremely professional, friendly and for sure will make you wanna come back. Please consider Dee for the management position, she's very well deserved it. Food is phenomenal as well. Chef Ryan is straight to the point.
Mazel Tov to the owner!

Worst service ever. I ordered online and biked 20 min to pick up my food for them to tell me my order was cancelled even tough money was not reimbursed and they never told me or sent me any notification. Waitress was disrespectful

Exquisite omakase tasting. Came on a busy Saturday night on a 4 day advanced reservation. Place was full and lively, but not loud. Went with the 16 course tasting which is well worth it over the 12 course. Started out with 3 outstanding appetizers that included a large blueprint oyster marinated in their vinegar dressing topped with salmon roe. The fatty tuna belly was perhaps the most delicious piece of nigiri of the tasting by itself. Had multiple other pieces that were wonderfully topped off with caviar and fresh uni. The wine paring added another 60 to the meal, but had at least 4 glasses so it was in itself an outstanding value. Each piece of nigiri was wonderful

My boyfriend and I love this place and make it a point to come in every month or so. The food is the best- I crave it all month long. Dee and Chef Andrea always provide impeccable service and quality. Benny always treats us like family and even remembers the sake we ordered in our previous visit. He helps make the experience special and is great to talk to. Can’t recommend this place more!!

Came here for a birthday dinner celebration and had high hopes for the omakase counter experience.
We had the 16 course counter omakase set.
The quality of food and service did not reflect the price point.
Had minimal to no interaction with the chef, with the exception of serving our food.
This would be a good place for a casual lunch but overall lacking in the omakase counter experience.

菜品可以,服务是真的差劲有被恶心到。能不能找个像样的服务员。每桌饭吃到一半就推账单过来赶人走,还一脸看不起客人的模样。

Restaurant week $60 omakase is super worth! Quality of fish is fantastic, interior is clean & gorgeous. Bar seating is perfect for dates. They were definitely understaffed but very nice & professional. Appetizer (soup and sashimi), 6 nigiris, fatty tuna hand roll, and dessert (sesame ice cream sandwich) were all amazing!

Unexpectedly ended up at Kissaki after failing to get into Momofuko Ko. Very fortunate for us, as the food was creative and exquisite and the service and ambiance was fabulous. My new favorite Omakase restaurant in NYC!

Had the 12 course omakase. Visiting from Taiwan had a lot of experience in Japanese style sushi, this place is actually pretty good considering the price and all. Everything is fresh and good quality, chef is super friendly and helpful. But the only thing yo keep in mind is that traditionally they don’t put too much other ingredients on a piece of sushi, but you’ll find a bit of American fusion here putting walnut and other ingredients to compliment the fish and rice, some people may find it distracting. Personally I like it without it, but this place is still worth a visit.

Food is delicious. A bit pricy but feels worthy. The outdoor dining area is not nice.
