Food is ok but not up to the standard of any authentic Japanese restaurant. I had the Chef’s choice of sashimi, the tempura don and the eel don for my husband. Tempura was very dry and hard. Sashimi was fine.
Service was terrible. The server wanted to charge my credit card before I got my bill. When I requested for the bill, she said I have to pay first and she would print the bill to me. After I paid, she came back & threw the bill at me on the table. I’ll never come here again. NEVER AGAIN!

I kind of think this place must be a joke, and there must be hidden candid cameras someplace…
I’d sum this place up as an over-sauced, under-designed, vastly over-priced, nearly serviceless sushi/nigiri house.
Three of us order the 6 and 7 course “dinner”(literally the word they use on the menu) for $60 and $70 a piece. Each “course” is just a bite, so think more omakase style. Except without almost any service from an omakase experience. Almost no service whatsoever. And they don’t serve the bites one at a time either. And the bites themselves are prepared way over sauced, which is too bad because you can tell the quality of fish is actually pretty good (so two stars versus one). See the pic. Thats four courses. Lol
The atmosphere of the place is uninspired and totally bland. We made reservations for 7pm on a Friday night and were one of two seated tables. That included the bar, which was completely empty. (Worth mentioning the restaurants across the hall were packed.)
Long story short, after spending $200 before tax on “dinner” we went downstairs to little Spain and ordered $15 burgers and fries to finally get enough to eat.
I’m not trying to be a hater. I have eaten at incredible sushi houses in the city. But this is not one of them. It is certainly not selling 5, 6, and 7 coursed “dinners,” and they really should change the wording on their menu. Perhaps if they list as something else, it wouldn’t be so offensive.
I’ve never eaten a burger after a $200 dinner before. But glad little Spain is just downstairs.
Avoid, unless you want a pricey snack. I will avoid moving forward, because they are just way too many other spots that are better than this, across the board! Service was one star. They didn’t keep our water glasses filled or offer us any.

We were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the small sushi spot in Hudson yards was. It was extremely fresh and everything tasted really good. We weren’t sure what to expect when we walked in as it was a smaller spot and wasn’t too busy as it was after the lunch rush but as mentioned everything was really good. My only complaint is it seemed like there was only one person really working the floor and the sushi bar and I think the hostess was doubling trying to help as well. They still did really well for being understaffed, but things were definitely slower when it came to getting my sake or some of our other orders. I don’t fault them for that at all and I think they did a good job as a place got busier.

We came for dinner I found it really tasty. My favorite two the classic Futomaki - generous portion, full of veggies, and a tad sweet - and the Akami hand roll. Yumm! I also recommend the spicy tuna, it comes with the mayo on top adding a smooth creamy texture at the end. The miso soup was different but nice too.

The sashimi and sushi, very good. The shrimp tempura is inedible. The veggies we're deep fried like chicken Mcnuggets. Frozen precooked shrimp and veggies then deep fried. Horrible. Worst shrimp temperature I've ever tasted. Staff, very friendly, accommodating. Not their fault. Owners should be embarrassed. This is not a real Japanese restaurant. Don't come here.

The food here is ok but the service is terrible. I ate here last week with my wife and we felt that the servers there were very unprofessional. We sat in a table and were given the wrong order. We also waited over 20 minutes for the check and had to ask the sushi chef for it because the servers kept chatting and forgot. I am very dissatisfied with this experience and will not be coming back.

As other reviewers have mentioned, food is terrible, price is crazy, portions are tiny and service is meh. We ordered 2 miso soups, 2 rolls and a salmon don mostly to feed my 4 and 3 year old something. And now I am writing this review after feeding them again at home.. Eel roll was over sauced and even the sauce tasted burnt, salmon don didn't seem fresh but the roe was good, the rice in the don had too much vinegar which made it unpleasant to eat, miso soup was just bad, shrimp tempura roll wasnt bad though. It took a very long time to get seated, water, and utensils. Wait staff even defaulted the tip on the terminal to the 3rd and 25% option. My bill came out to $80 before tip and my toddlers went home hungry. Never again.

I ate here in 2022, and it was incredible. I have a gluten allergy, and back then, they had a gluten-safe fryers and I was able to choose almost anything from the menu. I fondly recall a mushroom roll and a fried tofu roll, each with several pieces and quite filling.
Went back last week, and my options were severely limited; I had to go back and forth with the waitress instead of ordering directly from the menu. I ended up getting miso soup, a hand roll, and what I thought was a 6-piece California roll with ebi. I am accustomed to a hand roll being a cone that offers several bites, but this one was nigiri wrapped in post-it sized nori. The other selection was not 6 pieces but, again, a single piece. A bowl of soup and literally two pieces of sushi cost $36. When the chef placed them in front of me, I thought they might be otoshi, but nope, that was it. Had to go eat a protein bar to get through the day. The sushi I tasted was delicious, but this was not a $40 meal for me. I'm so sad that the old menu changed.

Avoid this place like the plague. Quality sushi is never cheap, but this place is outrageously expensive for what you get. For 2 people, we spent $150 and left hungry (only water for drinks). Their temaki “courses” are literally 1 medium sized bite of fish wrapped in seaweed. A 5 bite temaki order is almost 50 bucks. Quality nigiri is typically 5 dollars per piece, and this is significantly more money for significantly worse quality food. Just really disappointing, would not come back.

Extremely snarky behavior when telling to push bar chair in and rolling eyes when asked for another plate setting. And then had the audacity to present us with the payment portal and have 20% as the minimum tip option. Nuts.. would not recommend and would not return. Way better sushi and service else where

The crab roll in the maki section is made out of REAL CRAB and it’s served with a side of melted herbed butter. It was just created about 4 days ago so you might have heard little about it yet, but this is the main reason I’d go back ☺️ I also had the salmon and tuna. Their fish is very fresh

So happy we stumbled across this beautiful Japanese place.
The decor is very minimalistic and relaxing . Service was nice. The food was absolutely amazing . High end restaurants quality . Every piece melted in our mouth and the the quality of the ingredients was above anything that we expected. From a quick lunch we end up drooling over each dish. Probably the best sushi we had in a very long time. Highly recommend!

Atmosphere is a bit minimalistic and so is the food. The sushi rolls we ordered simply tasted bland and did not have much flavor. $7 for miso soup felt like robbery. I, personally, would not come here again.
The staff was great though!

Conveniently located inside Hudson yards, this small but cozy restaurant serves temaki sets, donburi bowls, Maki, and so much more. Service is friendly and the place is very clean. We arrived for lunch after attending the New York Auto show. There were no tables available, so we were seated at the bar.
We ordered the set of 5 temaki sets which came with fluke, yellowtail, salmon, bluefin tuna, and torched shrimp. They were all nicely presented and quite tasty. Not quite as fresh and flavorful as other restaurants I've been to but worth a try.
Overall, if you want something quick and fun, this is a great place. It won't leave you feeling full but that's ok. Just expect wit of you go on the weekends as it is quite small.

Upon entering the restaurant the hostess said “want to see the menu first?” Which me and my mother thought was odd and wondered if we were being profiled. This left a bad taste in our mouth before the food could. The food was subpar and the waitresses were rushing us as we ate, constantly checking in and removing plates that still had food I was working on (i.e ginger) terrible experience, would not recommend.

Jeffrey is the best chef making wonderful sushi for us. Most important of all and what gave us the best experience is that he cared about us a lot, explaining the food one by one and in detail. This place is a complete disaster! I came here for lunch with one other friend. We ordered the usual sets and one maki roll. They handled the maki roll to the table next to us instead. The waiter goes "whoops, I guess I will make you guys a new one" and told the other table to have it. The lady said she is allergic to salmon so she just kindly gave it back to us. As we start to eat it, the waiter comes back and shames us for eating it and continues to make rude demeaning comments like we are 2nd class citizens like "why would you eat that? I said, I would make a new one". Rushes back to the kitchen with an attitude. They never said sorry in any fashion to us. I even DM their account about their poor service and all they said was "okay, we will talk to that waiter". This establishment only cares about your money and legit nothing else. The food wasn't even anything special. Much rather go to KazuNori!

My sister and I stopped in for Sunday afternoon lunch today. The atmosphere is clean and the food was pretty good but my complaint is with the way our server rushed us through our meal. Constantly interrupting the flow of our conversation to ask if we’re ready to order even though we were still looking through the menu. We barely put the chopsticks down when our server rushed in to clear our dishes, or ask if we wanted to order something else or pay the bill. Since the restaurant was pretty empty at this time, it was quite annoying and made us feel unwanted; especially when other customers who were there longer got to chat and amble in peace.

Temaki is open-faced sushi hand rolls made from warm rice, crispy nori, and fresh seafood. Simply delicious...need I say more?
There are so many different types of Japanese food, from sashimi (thin slices of raw fish) to nigiri (fish on top of rice) to make (sushi rolled in seaweed). At Kamasu, you can try temaki, which is akin to a burrito in that the seaweed is wrapped around rice and fish. You certainly don't need chopsticks for this one!
The "Set of 7" at Kamasu features the best of all their temakis. Some of my favorites were Hotate (scallop, spicy mayo, tempura crisp), Toro (fatty tuna, oshinko, chives), Kanpachi (baby yellowtail, plum soy green apple), and Ebi (torched shrimp, yuzu mayo).
In addition to the temaki, the Tuna Tartare from the appetizer menu is a must order. Served with crispy nori chips, the fresh bluefin tuna is seasoned in sweet garlic soy and topped with caviar.
Kamasu also offers a variety of futomaki, or large rolled sushi. The Ebi Kanpachi, recommended by our server, featured baby yellowtail tartare with cucumber, pickle ginger, chives, avocado, tama arare, and shrimp tempura.
To finish the meal on a sweet note, the ice cream sandwich features sesame ice cream rolled in sesame and sandwiched in between crispy nori.

Ate here 3 times, attempted a 4th but was refused service, wouldn't even seat me at the bar (there were seats open). The food is mediocre/good, nothing to write home about, the atmosphere is boring, it's in a mall after all, the service is slow and inept/inexperienced. I liked it because it's close to my home, but if I'm getting turned away for dress code (that's code for racist/classist screening) I will go elsewhere. I don't recommend this place, unless you want sit next to a window and eat cheap mediocre food in a tiny place that is in a very busy mall, the view is of an escalator.

I paid 26 bucks for FOUR micro pieces of sushi ($6.50 a piece), and it wasn't even that good! They also took about 20 minutes to make four pieces of sushi which is crazy. I understand that restaurants are busy, and it can usually take a while for the food to come out but there was barely anyone in the restaurant. The waiters were nice but that was probably the only upside about the restaurant. I wouldn’t recommend this place for sushi.

I randomly found this place at Hudson Yards.
The server arranged me to be sitting at sushi bar.
It took a while for my 2 sushi rolls ( shrimp tempura roll and unagi roll) to be ready.
Unagi roll is very tiny. The large shrimp tempura rolls kept falling apart when I dipped it with soy sauce. There is definitely room for improvement.
In the middle of my meal (ie trying to hold the shrimp tempura roll together while eating), I was moved to another seat because the server told me that there was a reservation for other people. Caused some inconvenience.
I did not think much and agreed to move my seat and then I found that there are other EMPTY SEATS in the restaurant. I assume that reservation was specifically asking for sushi bar seats. Then why was I brought to my original seat in the first place?
I should have checked that there were some empty seats behind me before agreeing to move my seat. This is ridiculous.
AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!! There are a lot of other places to get food at Hudson Yards or at the High Line.

The salmon don was really good, the salmon is slightly torched but still mostly raw. It is a little pricey since there’s very few slices of salmon but it was overall good.
The scallops temaki was just average.

This was my first time here. Overall good experience. Everything was fresh and presentable. I sat at the bar since I was alone.
Cons: I was feeling rushed upon arrival. Within 2 min of looking at the menu I was approached twice with question if I’m ready to order which was clear I didn’t. Then I was asked if I have any questions about menu and then I said yes the waitress was not able to answer. Also I showed her the pic from Google review to find out the name of the dish and she was not able to tell me what it was (it was recent pic). She than asked about allergies which I told her I don’t have any and 30 seconds later she asked again the same question. So it was weird. Cook was preparing sushi right in front of me so I asked his a question what kind of fish it was. He answered first time but than called the waitress which than anyway asked him the same question cause she didn’t know the answer.
Now the sushi experience. I liked everything. Fish was good and fresh, seaweed crispy which I liked especially. The only sushi I didn’t like was salmon row. Which had weird taste and was too “mushy”. The row and rice just all fell through the bottom, it was a mess.
Miso soup was really good. Not salty like they usually serve which was nice. I also really like the salmon sushi with some sourness and crispy stuff on top. I agree with comments above that it could have a bit less rice but still tasted great. Will be back.

My guest and I have attended Kamasu's Sake Pairings event today. Sadly, today did not went well. First off, it's my first to experience the feeling of urging us to leave as fast as possible from all waiters and waitresses. Some even lifted our sake cups to see if they are empty and good to clear without asking us at all.
Secondly, we were seated at the most corner of the restaurant, one seat facing the kitchen entrance, seeing all our upcoming food being stationed at the area and another seat seeing the people of the mall watching us as they walked by the restaurant.
Thirdly, knowing that the reservation is an event and I have prepaid all the expenses on Resy platform. We were notified at the moment we were ready to leave that we did not complete our bills. My guest and I felt hold hostaged at the moment we prepare to depart. We were notified that we did not pay the taxes required. I have checked back Resy order confirmation and communication from my phone that there's no spot mentioning that I need to expect to pay some more at my visit. My guest and I did not get notified at any of the time from our entrance to sit-down either. We did connect with the manager but they are giving excuse and put blame to Resy and enforced us to paid.

The only thing good about this place is the taste of the food. The cost and the wait is not worth it.

Elegant Japanese restaurant. I had the miso soup and a salmon don. They work with their ingredients well; the salmon roe that came with the don was salty and fresh. The miso soup was full of flavor, sesame and green onion. I liked it, and was not overwhelmed by it. Dinner cost about $40 per head.

Had an amazing lunch here with my best friend. Ordered the sake don (seared salmon bowl) and a la carte sushi. Miso soup came with the sushi and it wasn’t too salty and tofu was cooked perfectly. We just got back from Japan and we’re craving legit sushi. We got the “sushi set” for $40. Usually a set will kind of fill you up when in tokyo (tho it’s way cheaper in tokyo)
This “set” was legit 5 pieces of sushi and a little miso. I am so mad at myself for spending $55 on lunch and needing to go to shake shack after. Skip unless you’re super rich. OR don’t get the sushi.

The chef was so friendly (Jeffrey) I almost wanted to give him my phone number. He made a special one for me (different from the menu) for my pre-mother's day celebration!

Good atmosphere. Great company. Great service. Food ... ok. Really, nothing stood out for me. The Spanish grilled octopus was better than average. The sushi was average. Their braised meat rack (sorry forgot the name) easily separated in your mouth, some on our group liked, I didn't.

Talked among themselves - was hard to get their attention Then friendly but did not understand my order of karaage (I said in both English and Japanese) Having lived in Japan for 20+ years I was excited to have authentic Japanese food- this was not.

The food was delicious, the ambience was beautiful and the service was delightful. All around a great experience. Truly do recommend. 10/10 would go again.

The worst Sushi we have had in Metro area so far, the rice on the sushi roll was not even fully cooked, so hard and the seaweed out side the roll is also too hard to chew compare with other Sushi places.

Too much rice for sushi and overall no taste of everything. If you like real sushi, go to omakase place

Delicious and fresh! I like this place more than Kazunori actually since the style is different. Loved the lunch set here along with the rice bowls. The salmon rice bowl with the sauce = 10/10!

Service is very good and I highly recommend the temakis. Definitively coming back!

Wonderfully surprising taste and quality sushi. Their maki rolls were great, especially the spicy tuna maki roll. Donburi bowl and miso soup were also delicious.Decorated nicely, very cute color selection of plates and bowls. We absolutely loved the quality of the food and the service. However, it was a bit pricey. Overall, great experience, would highly recommend.

My sister and brother has a really great and awesome experience having lunch at Kamasu. Not only is the quality of the products is amazing, but the service is phenomenal. They had so many questions but the waiter was so friendly in answering every single question. Great place to come with a small group & try an array of sushi. They have a nice selection of different beverages.

My husband and I walked in hopeful about our Kemaki course (basically a set of 6 sushi rolls) but we were astonished at not only the size but (lack of) freshness of the rolls, the sashimi tasted stale almost like it’s been left there for days. It was very thinly sliced too.
We completed our USD 120 meal in ten minutes. The quality of this meal doesn’t justify its price. We left feeling barely filled.
10/10 would not recommend.

Wow fun lunch place in the mall at Hudson Yards near to Javits. Delightful sushi. Got a cold sake to round out the meal.

Went here for restaurant week, but ordering from the menu turned out to be a better deal. Ended up ordering the Temaki set of 5 and set of 7 plus some sushi rolls. Our favorites ended up being the torched tuna and negitoro, but everything was delicious. Wasn’t very packed at all considering we went during a weekday. Overall an excellent restaurant.

This place is excellent! I didn't even have to ask for anything, the staff were right there to help me in every way. They know what you need even before you know what you need. We had a variety of temaki and rolls. The different seafoods were tender and some of them well marinated, some stayed raw. The pork belly futomaki was exceptional. The price is fantastic as well.

If you are going for quantity AND quality Kamasu is the only answer for you. It is fairly priced and the quality of the products and the food are to the highest standard. I often go to this place for lunch and dinner when I'm in the mood to treat myself. My top recommendations are spicy tuna maki, shrimp tempura futomaki. Don't forget the biggest temaki set to try, you must get them! :)

The food were pretty good. The service was TERRIBLE. The receptionist seat us on a table. We ask the waitress ( a Japanese lady I assume because of her Japanese accent ) if we can seat at the bar. Her face suddenly changes and glared at me. She’s like “in the beginning the receptionist should ask where you wants to seat. Now you already seat down.” The truth is that they never ask where would we like to seat. And the food takes forever to come.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kamasu in Hudson Yards. The ambiance was very sleek and modern, and the service was excellent. The portions were a bit on the smaller side hence why I'm giving it a 4 stars although I did go for their restaurant week menu so I'm not sure if that impacted it.

I swear this is the first time EVER I’m writing a negative review in my life. We trusted the positive reviews and had an annoying experience which is definitely not worth the money:
1. The rolls are so small and for 1 person to be full you need to order 2 large rolls which is insane. I’m used to the rolls being large in portions and 8slices rather than 4-5 + tasting way better and costing way less.
2. The moment we finished our rolls which was in 5 minutes bcz they were like a kid’s portion, they immediately removed the plates and everything as if we were being rushed to leave the place , they asked if we want the check and we said “not yet” , but they brought the check immediately which was annoying.
3. Menu had low variety of options which is honestly not a reason for negative review but anyways just a heads up.
Seriously I don’t understand people who rated the place with 4-5 stars , you people either don’t know what a “good service”, “tasty” and “decent portion size” is or you just want other people to waste their money on food that will not even make them full. Have some standards people!!! Glad that we had a cola so our stomach doesn’t feel empty lol

There are a lot of options to choose from and all the other dishes such as soup, cucumber salad, and desserts, which we couldn't decide. As far as the experience, it was my first time eating Japanese food. It was different. You certainly will get your moneys worth here. We came during a peak time on a weekend and the staff was just flying all over but somehow covering every table without a hitch. On top of that, they were insanely friendly and welcoming despite being overrun constantly by all the patrons. Really they set a standard for service.

Saw this place on Google and needed to visit! I wish I could have been able to try more, but maybe I will if I come with friends. My favorite temaki was with the scallop and crispy corn. Overall a fun place to get drinks and sushi. Wonderful experience and great food! We let our server choose our food for us, and it was the best decision we made! If you're in the mood for amazing sushi this is the place. The location is excellent. The food quality is top-notch, far better than anyone can usually expect from similar places.

Service was awesome, prices were reasonable, seafood is fresh. The food is always delicious, with plenty of options. The dinner was delicious, and I highly recommend the Zuke-Sake Don with spicy cucumbers, pork belly temaki and shrimp tempura futomaki. You'll probably want to come with a friend or two, so you can try more. We enjoyed the ice cream too! We had made a reservation and had a brief wait while they set up the table. When we were seated there was a staff member to help us with the menu!

Came to Kissaki’s newly opened sister restaurant for RW. The miso soup wqs bland and oily. The pieces were under seasoned and the fish left a fishy after taste. We were informed after our 4th piece of 5 by our server he forgot to mention they do not have Uni for the menu and its being replaced by Unagi. We would’ve walked if it was mentioned before the meal. The dessert ice cream was so badly presented I had to send it back and again did not touch the replacement. Management did try to attend to the issue but the bad service and tasting experience already left a bad impression. The place feels worse than a take out sushi spot and would not recommend it.

I really enjoyed my time at Kamasu. The service and quality of food was excellent. It was my first time trying the temaki hand rolls and they were delicious and similar to a sushi version of a taco. I especially liked the tuna tartare. It was extremely flavorful and came with small edible wafer-like scoops. It was the highlight for me.
I definitely would recommend checking this place out for a good meal!

All sushi were fresh, but it looks like, home-made, not in restaurant)) So, it is a questionable food. Service is OK, but nothing extraordinary.
By the way, the restaurant is located on the 2nd floor.

Don’t know how the dine in experience is, but the to-go order is … We ordered the tempura don and the tempuras were cold and damp and the portion was tiny. (we ate those immediately after we picked those up). Maybe the atmosphere in the restaurant will balance the food quality.

Really wanted to like it but overall it was just meeehh. I didn’t think the price was worth it for the amount of food you got. 7 pieces + 1 roll was almost $100 pretax and I still wasn’t full. While the seafood seemed fresh, some of the flavors were a bit more muted like I wanted just bit more citrus or shiso or somethinnnggg.
In a city where there are a lot of really good sub $100 omakase places, I wouldn’t come back here if I was in the area.

Price is decent for the don $18. Temaki set is $36 for 5. A bit pricy but not impressed with the caviar. The ice cream is not pretty but pretty tasty. Matcha with light white chocolate and yuzu smell.
The server printed bill with $23 instead of $18. Then after a few minutes, a lady came over and adjusted the bill explaining its technical communication issue and they gonna adjust tomorrow. The default tip option is 20,22,25% though we were taking lunch.

So lovely and casual. Stylish surroundings. Amazing menu. Seemed like lavish portions. Not stingy. Ultra freshness, Especially artistic presentations and incredibly tastey. So convenient, tidy, personable, complete restaurant from start to finish. Beautiful bar, coffee, and dessert. Don't miss. Do yourself a favor.

Very good sushi done the authentic way unlike most sushi places in the city. My girlfriend and I came here for a quick bite and absolutely fell in love with it. The restaurant itself is extremely convenient. I became a fan of Pork Belly Futomaki. The contrast between the sweetness from the caramelized pork belly and the pickled daikon create the most delicious combination. We also liked the chef. He's always on top of what's happening at this place. I also had the Spicy Tuna Maki and of course we shared the set of temaki, which was fantastic.

The place is a pleasant surprise!
Got their set of 4 (tuna, scallop, salmon, amberjack) and all were amazing! Love the balance of the flavor - the sauce they added to the sashimi is a great plus, makes the sushi more flavorful and refreshing!
Highly recommending their uni - fresh, rich, and yummy! The very few place where the uni do not have the medicine taste!
Thé lunch set for take out is also really good!

I have to say they are one of the best restaurant I've been to. The place is very warm and welcoming, I loved both the atmosphere and food at this place. It's pretty trendy, but I like the change of scenery. The food was fresh and perfectly made! We had the cucumber salad for the appetizer (forgot the exact name) and a rice bowl for each of us. The salad was quite spicy, but that was what made it so special. Then we had 3 fat rolls. Also, my drink was pretty good, with delicate peach flavor. Great place to bring business guests or come with friends!

You will dine in a newly decorated contemporary and spacious room. If you want a hot restaurant experience with cool people then I highly recommend them! The place is buzzing with well-trained staff. This was a great restaurant for diner and business lunch. Enjoyed every single dish including the Zuke -Sake Don, salmon temaki, unagi and cucumber maki, and cucumber sunomono. Perfect serving sizes and service. This was our first visit since the place opened, and we'll be back. Kamasu is definitely the kind of place that leaves you dying for more of any particular dish that you've liked the most.

Kamasu is a new restaurant. I came here tonight for a work dinner thinking it would likely be decent, but it proved to be much more than that. All of my dinner companions agreed that had we been staying here an additional night we'd all come back again tomorrow for dinner just to try more menu items. From the warm decor, to friendly service, to the incredible food and drinks, this place is one of the best new spots in the area. The service here is friendly and attentive and the ambiance is great. The food is outstanding with lovely presentation and impressive taste.
