Omakase Room by Maaser offers an intimate dining experience focused on Edomae-style sushi. Chefs Peter and Aaron create a multi-course tasting menu, showcasing the freshest seasonal ingredients flown directly from Japan. Diners can choose between a 12-course or 17-course omakase, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the culinary artistry of these skilled sushi chefs.
Omakase room by maaser for me is the best restaurant in the world.
All Sushis prepared by the chef are heaven on earth.
I eat here since the inauguration and always is absolutely marvelous and perfect.
Thank you so much chef for bringing such joy to my soul with your wonderful sushis.

Positives: in terms of variety, they served a select few different pieces (though not necessarily good) from the pieces that you might typically see at other omakase places, such as the oyster, cured salmon, and crab. However, aside from a few select pieces, the quality of the fish and even other ingredients seemed really low to me, with some pieces torched to cover for it. I personally found the pieces somewhat poorly assembled, on the salty side, with some toppings to be poor flavor combinations. The servings spoons they served the pieces on were awkwardly large, not truly to be used as a spoon, and at times, I felt uncomfortably pressured by the chef to eat a certain way. To be honest, I'm confused by some of other reviews. I thought the omakase was much worse than the omakase that I've had the joy to try elsewhere in the city. The starting price for 12 pieces for $95. For a better omakase experience, I'd instead recommend going to the Sushi Lin West Village ($85) nearby, or Shinn West ($69) uptown.

This was by far one of the best food experiences my husband and I have ever been a part of. We booked a reservation in this small bar side only restaurant and expected to be seated with another 8 or so guests, however; we had the whole place to ourselves. Unfortunately, we had eaten a "snack" of pizza on the way to the restaurant so we had to opt for the smaller menu of 13 courses. Each plate was unlike the previous. I had no idea there was so much range in the taste and texture of fish. The preparations to the fish were so minimal but the flavour was out of this world. I can honestly say each piece of nigiri made my eyes bulge and my tummy content. So fresh and so true to the fish. Every piece was stunning and each fish was respected. The chef was so talented - precise in every movement he made. We will definitely be coming back here - I would simply make the flight to New York JUST for this spot. Thank you for a dining experience we will never forget. Hopefully we will be back in 2023!

It's a small omakase bar - only spots for ten people. You can choose the 12 or 17 course option, but both take about the same time as they just skip you for courses not included.
Food was delicious and staff were great.
We opted for 17, and started with a delicious oyster with ikura, followed by a delicious tuna, and amberjack, and scallop. Each were delicious!
Towards the end I felt that the flavors were getting less creative and a bit salty. There was one course with was salmon with minced onion and cherry tomato. This reminded me of a lox bagel which wasn't to my liking.
At the end you can add on extras to your order - if you want to repeat another favorite or try something you didn't get before.

Didn’t take pictures of this restaurant as it was for a client dinner. We all had a wonderful experience here. Chef uses a lot of cool seafood and ingredients to make it a very tasty and decadent omakase for the price. Some of my favorite pieces were the torched barracuda, the monk fish liver and the lobster with truffle sauce.

I only wrote reviews when I’ve either had a horrible experience or a life changing one and this is definitely a life changing one. I am an omakase snob and this place did NOT disappoint. Every single course was beautifully crafted. All the different flavors the chef thought of was so unique and different to any other omakase I’ve ever had. The sushi chefs were so incredibly nice and thoughtful when making the pieces. And the server made sure my water glass was never empty. I cannot say enough incredible things about this place. Absolutely worth every single penny.

Overall, the food at this place was quite good. We got the 17 piece Omakase and one thing that really stood out is that there was a lot of thought process that went into creating the journey from each Sushi piece to the next. I have had Omakase before on many occasions and would say that very frequently there are not a lot of distinctions between the different fish. This meal, however, was quite the exciting journey where each piece kept true to the fish, but added subtle teas to change the textural or flavor experience, just enough to very pleasantly distinguish it from the previous piece. As far as the restaurant itself, it’s nothing special in terms of ambience, but a great place to get an exceptional meal unrushed. Not a lot of wine choices on the menu, but the few that they had complemented the meal quite well.

Great first half, mostly raw good sushi omakase as it should. Then the other half turned mostly cooked sushi and some crunchy eel of sort. Great but was hoping for mostly raw sushi. Had to order more after 17 rounds. Overall a great place

Words are not enough to describe this phenomenal experience. Took my girlfriend here and it was just the two of us, felt like we had a private reservation just to ourselves. Each piece was decadent, and the chef watched with a keen eye for our reactions to every bite, responding to our expressions of glee. Truly a master artisan of his craft, compliments to the chef!!!!

Impeccable service and amazing pieces. We’ve been to a lot of omakase places, but this one really stunned us with the fish quality and creativity on many of the pieces (shipped daily from Japan). Our standouts were definitely the toro, king salmon, truffle lobster, and the shrimp. The interior was simple and cozy. I would highly recommend trying this place out and can see myself returning.

Pleasantly surprised by Omakase room by Maaser. While at first glance it may seem underwhelming, the sushi speaks for itself. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the combinations both familiar and entirely new were all delicious. My friend and I get Omakase once every month or two - this was was so good that she switched her dinner plans with out of town guests 2 days later to this spot. She also said that it wasn’t a fluke, everyone was wowed! We were that impressed. This is in my top 5 for the price point. I’ve unfortunately paid more for a lot less. Be back soon!

Fantastically fresh sushi from Japan -- the food quality is top notch, as is the service. Had an unbelievably good meal. But the ambiance leaves a LOT to be desired... Feels more like an all-you-can-eat joint than an omakase restaurant, with paper towel dispensers and sinks in visible sight, and drab (slightly depressing) lighting, to name a few visual flaws. If they could upgrade the design and decor, this would be an EASY 5 stars.
Visited 2 years ago
nothing tasted bad by any means, but I felt that every piece had a bit too much extra on top which ended up masking the fish instead of accenting it, very salty toppings. Also there was a severe lack of variety of fish, many repeats (for example 3 of the 17 were salmon).
Visited 2 years ago
I have been coming here for quite some time now, master chef peter and alan are the best at their craft. This spot is much better than any of the other omakase michelin spots. I highly recommend getting the 17 course but the 12 course is great for beginners who are just trying out omakase for the first time. I have been to Japan for several years and whenever i am homesick this spot always brings home the nostalgic feel. This is the most authentic japanese omakase spot in all of NY. All of my japanese friends love this spot. The toro and lobster rolls are my favorite!

The set menu was a surprisingly good experience. Do not let the spare decor and slightly discounted price fool you: these guys are serious about sushi and sashimi and can go toe-to-toe with places in Tokyo. The toro and the beef are exceptional. The more adventurous combinatons (such as the lobster with truffle miso) are well-executed and all enjoyable. We'll be back for a third time for sure. In a city full of overpriced, underwhelming Japanese food, this is a gem.

Excessive is the word I would use to describe the “creative” pieces in this 17 piece omakase. It reminds me of people who wear designer clothes head to toe, but are still tacky; throwing on brand names doesn’t make you stylish. Similarly here, just because there’s so many layers and toppings and flavors doesn’t make it good sushi. The evening started strong with chutoro as the first piece, but I knew things were going south fast when the rice was falling apart in my 2nd piece. Having fresh fish is a requirement, but what makes omakase special to me is the rice… and the rice here was over cooked and overly flavored with… soy? Something salty instead of the bright neutral sushi rice you’d expect so it was hard to taste the sweetness of the ebi/hotate/uni. Chef then proceeded to cook via torch both the salmon and the otoro 🫣 not just a sear, like he fully cooked the pieces. Such a waste imo. There was also an excess of toppings on almost all the pieces making it hard to enjoy the fish (coleslaw and tomato???). I’d only recommend this place if you want the omakase vibes, but have a lower budget and are craving something completely opposite of traditional omakase. 2 stars given for fresh fish and good music/ambiance.

Really good modern omakase. Each piece had its own particular seasoning or topping - a spicy yuzu sauce, creamy tomato, really nice and complimentary to the fish. The interior is a simple and small sushi bar, but with very good fresh fish and exciting flavors.

The chefs were so friendly and sushi artists

It went by so fast! 17-course omakase took about an hour to finish for our party of four. I loved how each fish had a unique taste/texture combination. My favorites were the Amberjack, Eel, Fatty Tuna, and A5 Wagyu with Truffle. I didn't like the barracuda or red snapper. Many people ate solo, but a must try for anyone looking for a satisfying, great experience. I wished they offered a dessert at the end, would've made for a perfect ending.

My very first omakase experience and to say it was amazing is an understatement. This is a cozy establishment that offers two different omakase options. We had the more expensive option and it is very well worth the money! We also had the beer and a citrus drink. The chefs were very nice and clearly spoke to us about each piece. The waitress was kind as well. I've been to a few omakase spots since and I still have to say that this place is #1! Highly recommend.

Went for lunch with my wife and got the 17 piece Omakase. Price was $135 per person plus tax & tip. Some other omakase places don’t require a tip but they build it into the price anyways.
Chef was entertaining and very friendly. I do get a sense that he loves the job and is very fond of the food he is serving.
We were the only people in the shop so it was very quiet and relaxed. Service was good but not amazing.
Here comes the main part: the food.
The overall impression is the food is creative and definitely not your traditional Japanese Omakase experience. I enjoyed most of the dishes and there were a few pleasant surprises. However, certain basic aspects might need to be revisited to ensure the quality is up to par.
A couple of examples:
Perhaps it was because we got the noon slot and they just opened shop but at least 3 pieces of fish were not properly thawed out. To the point where I was chewing on frozen fish and had to drink hot tea to melt the fish a bit halfway through chewing.
The lobster course had a faint taste of dish soap but it wasn’t overpowering.
Last point is personal preference but I think hot tea is sort of an essential component to sushi and many other shops serve it complementary. They charge $5 per person for it which is slightly annoying. I would rather they just roll it into the price of Omakase and serve it straight up but I understand it’s not everyone’s preference.

I have no idea how so many of these reviews are positive. If you have any respect for the art form of sushi, do yourself a favor and stay away from this racket. Everything from the service, sake selection, and most importantly the sushi itself was horribly sub par and absolutely unauthentic. I've had better sushi at my neighborhood spot for a tenth of the cost.
I would have no problem with a master sushi chef offering creative variations on classical dishes, but this was an abomination of the craft and honestly, I feel completely duped by the positive reviews of this place.

You have to try this place. Went there for my husband’s birthday. We ordered 17course omakse. The theme of my review is: Caring and attentive chef & staff.
Earlier in the week prior to the visit, they actually messaged me prepping for the rsvp including my husband’s name. I was already thankful for this.
Then on the actual day, we arrived a little early but they were still so welcoming—letting us start our experience earlier than our rsvp time. Another thankful moment.
Then of course, the experience was impeccable! The quality was top-notch. No frills with some really creative and tasty pieces. Near the end, the chef took the time to wish my husband a happy birthday.
I would definitely recommend trying this place! It certainly made our day and I’m sure it will do so for you. Attaching some of our favorite dishes from today.

Came here for lunch and ordered the 17 piece omakase and it was delicious! The fish was really fresh and you can see the chef preparing it right in front of you. I liked that on some pieces they would add on other elements to compliment the fish and create a more unique taste.
I did feel like it was a bit more rushed than what I would have liked. Ended up being in and out of the restaurant in 50 mins (and probably only ate for 40mins).

I had omakase with a party of 5 for dinner. We ordered the 17 pieces for $125. The omakase here is modern styled as opposed to traditional style. I usually eat traditional edomae style sushi and am usually skeptical of modern styled sushi. I was pleasantly surprised to find that each piece was not only extremely fresh, but also very well made. I was worried the flavors might be overpowering, but instead all the ingredients complemented each other perfectly. The chef was very pleasant as well. I would warn patrons not to eat the white ingredient beneath the oyster shell, which I thought was white pickled radish but was actually pure salt (my mistake). I was very sad when my favorite traditional styled Omakase Room by Tatsu left NYC for Texas, but I have found a new go-to place for my omakase in NYC. Highly recommended. Great cost and high quality sushi. Better than many of the other omakase in NYC by several notches. Photos are included of all pieces except 1 that I accidentally ate before photographing.

Their “shari” (sushi rice) was too loose. I wonder what kind of rice they are using. Also, I didn’t like some nigiri like abalone with tare. 私の採点が厳しいと思うのですがこのレベルだとネタの価格を考慮しても17コースので$75が妥当ですね。$125では食べる価値無しです。
Staff were very nice including sushi chef. But when it comes to the taste of sushi, sorry it’s 3 stars.

I rarely review places but this place is amazing. I tried Sushi By M a few months ago and thought that was great until I tried my first piece here which made it mediocre suddenly. This place has set a huge bar for Omakase now and I will certainly be back. The portions are very thick pieces and they will instantly melt in your mouth. The chef was very calm and had great service; my water kept getting filled and our spoons and plates were constantly getting cleared. Just sharing my 2 cents. Hope you come here and enjoy it as much as I did.

Food - rice was a bit rough, not exactly smooth or temperature controlled. but all sashmis are fresh and thick cut.
Service - would have been 4 stars if the service was good. I felt we are urged to finish early and exit. Did not even finish all the dishes and my drinks yet, and did not ask for the check, but they just brought the payment machine. Noting that we barely spent an hour by that point, and there was nobody waiting for a table, I think it was very inappropriate for the servers to behave like that.
Overall, I am sad to see the chef trying so hard to bring out quality food to his customers but the servers reverse that effort quite effortlessly.

First time here and first time having omakase. I’m glad I found this place. Thank you so much for giving me such an impressive experience. Would definitely come back to you guy! Thank you to my chef, Alan (if I got his name right). He was so nice and full of hospitality. Thumbs up! Please keep up the good work!❤️❤️❤️

I have had omakase before but this experience was brilliant. My meal consisted of 17 pieces of selected fish. In particular, the blue fin tuna was exquisitely savory and delicious. The toro melted in one bite. The Japanese uni was one of the most light and enjoyable sushi I have had to date, and I discovered this gem of a fish 13 years ago. This was quite easily in my top 3 omakase meals. I highly recommend ORbM. The price is moderate, the sake menu is extensive, the sushi is fresh, well-prepared, and quite a nice difference to the mundane that one would get at a normal restaurant. It is only a small step below Nakizawa. I am excited to revisit.
To the gentleman who delivered some of the best sushi I have had

The food was okay, super friendly service, a little overpriced based on my past experiences.

Wooow! One of the best food experiences I’ve ever had. I was astonished how different toro or scallops can taste. Wagyu serving is also beyond any questions. This is perfect place for a date, special occasion or anniversary. Go with the largest set, worth every dollar.

One of the most creative and fun omakase experience! You can tell the chef puts a lot of thought into each piece and experiments with different seasoning and garnishes. We had so much fun guessing what the garnishes were and the chef would play along and make it dramatic (wait, there's more!). I think there were only 1-2 pieces that we didn't love because the flavor of the fish was overpowered by strong garnishes (onions & yuzu) I usually am still hungry after omakase but the cuts were so thick that we were all full by the end of it. Special shoutout to the house made ginger - super thick and crunchy! Overall a really good value at $125 for 17 very high quality pieces. We've been to plenty of other places that were more expensive and bland compared to maaser.

The omakase here was exquisite. Every bite was out of this world and the combinations were so fresh and creative. Chef was super friendly and amazingly skilled. Highly recommend omakase here. For reference, 17 piece had me really really full and I eat a lot.

Best sushi I have ever had

Omg this was the best sushi experience ever. Our chef was amazing and each piece was artfully crafted and delicious - the wagyu beef with truffle was like having a slice of heaven. As my wife and I left we were talking about how so many times you pay a lot for "nice" sushi and end up getting the same stuff you could get anywhere else for more normal prices. But this was truly unique, well worth the money. Excellent food and service by both the chef and the server. Arigatou gozaimasu!

I visited this place on Feb 8 and had to come back in two weeks today for my mom's birthday lunch just because it was way too good! This is my first time writing a review in Google/Yelp, but I wanted to share my wonderful experience. I've visited many other omakase places in NYC, but this place is the BEST!

Very good quality and service, rare to find omakase this good at this price point. I really like the fact that they don’t put a lot of rice but give you bigger fish on top of
It, easily one of the best I have tried in NYC, will definitely revisit. You can tell right away the effort that was put into each piece of sushi when you put it in your mouth. They even gifted us a Japanese cheesecake for our anniversary!

First few starting dishes were a bit salty and marinated too much, could not taste the fish but only the sauce, salt and lemon. (However, it’s not that the sauce and the salt is bad). The compositions were great. Got some unique dishes like one topping with seaweed and onion. Loved some dishes like kinmedai and soury, which were a good experience for me. Cuts of fish were generous and well treated. Ingredients were fresh☺️ Overall, service was great and the food was ok, but the first few white fish dishes were a shame, and had to drink few cups of tea. Except that the experience was good. Plus it’s BYOB.

A few pieces were fantastic, like the needle fish and live uni. The cuts of fish were very generous, almost to the point of too much and I had to bite in half (sacrilege)... Most of the fish were not anything special compared to other omakase in San Franscico and New York. Also wasn’t especially inventive with the toppings, so not sure this was a $125 experience. More like $75 compared to other similar experiences you can have nearby, but still a very nice experience with a pleasant chef.

Tried this Omakase place on Friday and we made our reservation about 2 weeks ago, and they required a credit card at the time for RSVP. There are a total of 14 seats at the bar and not too tight in space in my opinion. They don’t serve any alcohol and allow BYOB and no corkage fee and which is a plus. Overall quality is great and worth $125 per person. Only down side, they are a bit rush for the table and the sushi chef is keep making the next piece and serve it on the plate right after the piece previously and we need to eat non-stop, and that’s not too enjoyable.

The quality of the fish is phenomenal. Each piece is treated minimally but perfectly to tease out subtle flavors and to complement the texture of the fish. The service is warm and part of the fun is interacting with the sushi chef. If you love sushi this place is a must. It’s a bit of a splurge but when you eat the product you will realize that they really are procuring the best available product. Highly recommended.

YUM!!! If you are into the quality of the sushi and not bother by the simple decoration of the restaurant, COME TRY!!! There were a total of 17 pcs hand made in front of you by the sushi chef. They get their fresh seafood flew in from all over daily. They are still applying for their liquor license. Thus, it’s BYOB. We bought a bottle of Riesling and it paired perfect with the sushi.
