We went last night, table of 2 for all you can eat. We ordered 2 drinks and a few appetizers and our sushi, but after 30 minutes we only got 3/5 appetizers. We asked about our food, to which they said the ticket probably got lost. Okay, fine, we get our appetizers, but then we dont get our sushi until around 45 minutes later. What really bothered us was the fact that there were people who got seated after us and they were getting their food before we did. Its not like we ordered a ton of food, since it was just the two of us. Finally we get our food, eat, and ask for the check. They added an 18% gratuity on to the check. No apologies or explanations for why the food took so long, except that the kitchen must have lost the ticket for the appetizers. We were there for probably 2 hours… I would never come back again. We wanted to go to wasabi in albany but they had a 45 minute wait. We would have been better off going there and waiting the 45 minutes for better service

My girlfriend and I are usually Wasabi goers, but one day it was closed and we wanted all you can eat sushi, so we decided to give this place a try. Let me say, I will be going here from now on instead! The sushi was very fresh, the food was very flavorful and I love the iPad ordering system so you don't have to wait for someone to come over and grab you next course.

Decided to give Sushi Prime 88 a shot while we were in the area. Opted for takeout instead of diving straight into the all-you-can-eat scene ($31 for adults, $15 for kids 8+, $10 for kids under 8).

We grabbed three rolls. The sushi was... fine. Like, decent enough, but not 'let’s-come-back-for-AYCE' level.

On the plus side, plenty of parking and super quick service. But overall? Not a place we’d rush back to.

I went here with a friend from work and the staff was super kind and pleasant. We sort of closed the place out since we were the last to leave. Once I realized, I felt bad holding up the staff so we hurried out. However, the staff made us feel super welcome! The food is absolutely delicious as well.

A sorry experience. My salmon had a crunch to it as thought there was a grain of sand or something. The rice wasn't tasty and was not properly cooked. It spoiled the whole dinner. On top of that, there was an unexpected 20% surcharge on my bill. I ended up spending roughly $80 for two people for some rather low quality sushi. No wonder they don't post prices on their website for the sushi buffet-- because they rip you off.

Worst sushi in the state. 18% of service charge. The looking of the sushi is good but tastes nasty. No matter what kind of roll, inside are all cucumber.
Top of the dragon roll is avocado with eel sauce. No meat inside of the roll.

Nasty! Over priced! Worst experience! Make my day feel worst! Don’t eat over here.

With a name like Sushi Prime, you know they have to make good Sushi. That, or they transform into a Kei Truck.

After discovering my taste has matured since I had sushi so many years ago and hated it, I have found a new interest in a food category I had long since abandoned. With so many new options open to me, well, I'm feeling quite satisfied.

Living up to their name the sushi from Sushi Prime was quite good, with my choices being the chicken tempura roll and the CP roll. (along with an appetizer order of calamari, but that's besides the point) In total coming to a little under $30. (before tip)

The chicken tempura, while not as mind blowing as the shrimp tempura I had a few weeks ago, was excellent still. A soft yet savory sushi roll and a crispy chicken core, made for an excellent dinner choice. The CP roll was more along the lines of "interesting" as it had the makings of a crab rangoon, with the crab meat and cream cheese, but the texture of the super thick rice lessened the impact of these two ingredients. The whole roll is also fried, but only ever so lightly, as to give the exterior of the roll a tiny crunch but without the fatty or oily flavor. And while not sushi, it would behoove me to say that the calamari was right on. Super crunchy, with thick chunks of squid, and a sauce that was sweeter than I was expecting but had a nice spicy kick at the back of the throat.

Overall I'd recommend Sushi Prime 88 to anyone looking for good sushi, or even, expand their pallets like mine.

One of my favorite spots in Clifton Park for sushi! This restaurant has a traditional Chinese/Japanese menu AND an all you can eat menu! All you do is check the box of what you want, and as long as you eat it all, you can have as much as you want! Their standard kitchen menu has all of the classic favorites like fried rice, lo mein, and General tso's chicken, along with a nightly special. Another thing that I love is that the lunch menu is VERY extensive. Usually, with places like this and most buffets in general, their dinner menu has double the selection of the lunch menu and is much more expensive because of it. This place has an excellent lunch menu and the pricing is very fair. The food comes out quick, hot/cold and very fresh so I have no problem getting in and out of there during a 30 minute lunch break. I definitely recommend this place to go get your sushi itch scratched!

I came here expecting a great experience to rival Wasabi but was very disappointed. The waiter was visibly upset when I entered, muttering under his breath. He was extremely rude while taking our order slips and showed even more irritation when serving ice cream. The food was mediocre and not appetizing, with only the starters being somewhat acceptable. The only positive aspect was that the place was clean.

Additionally, the tip was outstandingly high at over 20%. I was not happy with what I paid for. Wasabi has a similar tip policy, but their service, environment, and food make it worth it.

I come here often with my son when he is home and we are looking to get lunch. We always do the all you can eat option, which for the price seems more than worth it. While i wish there was a bit more on the menu, what is available is always delicious, fresh and consistent in quality. Atmosphere is laid back and pleasant, and the servers are always attentive to anything we need. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you are craving some sushi at a reasonable price!

I was annoyed. This place is open until ten thirty, my party walks in at 9 o'clock. We were told we cannot be seated if we want to do the all you can eat. Apparently, that ends at nine thirty.... Nowhere Is that posted. Mind you, we do not eat all that much and probably would have been done within half an hour, well before the posted closing time.

Worse than being told "no" was the attitude by the host. We used to frequent this establishment, I will never go back.

Went when it was almost empty. Server was not very tentative. I had the udon stir fry. It was decent, but not grand. My partner had the snapper. Snapper was cooked well but did not like the rice side. Undercooked. As well as the broccoli. Was basically raw, rather than blanched. Atmosphere is bare, uninviting, and very uncomfortable. Seats could use updating.

I happen to be staying nearby for work and was craving sushi. I found this location through Google using its search feature and filters for all you can eat. The food was excellent. Sometimes all you can eat sushi can feel a little inexpensive but this place put all the effort into each roll. The Sashimi was nice large pieces and the sushi rolls we're not overly filled with rice. The ingredients tasted extremely fresh and the presentation was definitely above average for an all you can eat establishment. The restaurant was modern clean and very large. The overall atmosphere was a 10/10. There is no doubt I will be back next time I pass through this area for business. I have a few favorite sishi establishments around the Northeast US and this will definitely make it to the regular rotation.

Sushi Prime offers a fresh dining experience, emphasizing the quality of their ingredients. While the overall meal I would describe as mediocre, the freshness of the sushi stood out. This spot could be a good choice for those prioritizing ingredient quality, though it may not dazzle those seeking culinary innovation or exceptional flavors.

Service was excellent and the food was very good! Tried a few new items and wasn't disappointed. Probably the best miso soup I've had! The salmon was like butter, I was very happy! Wish there were a few options for dessert on the AYCE menu but the little fried donuts were still good 😊

Sushi Experience №43

Average sushi. Definitely way more options than Wasabi in Albany, but the quality depending on the roll is either the same, slightly better, or worse. I’d say sushi and sashimi pieces are 5/5 and way better than wasabi (huge pieces of fish!!! And good quality). But the rolls such as spicy tuna, salmon, etc had this weird breading in it that tasted like it came from frozen sushi aisle at a grocery store. Appetizers were average at best compared to the other AYCE places, and compared to other Asian restaurants it was below par.

I would only eat the sushi and sashimi here. Huge pieces and great quality. But the rolls? Hard pass.

Sushi/sashimi - 5/5
Appetizers - 2/5
Japanese BBQ - 1/5
Rolls - 2/5

They add on the gratuity automatically by the way, for the AYCE buffet. It was $80 ish for 2 people…

Overall, this place was fine. The selection was smaller than what I am used to at an all you can eat sushi, but it's fine. The food itself was fine, and the fish tasted fine, and I felt fine afterward. The items from the kitchen were also fine, depending on what you get. My only major complaint was that almost all the plates and cups we got were dirty, covered in spots like the dishwasher was leaving residue on them but no one cared enough to rinse or dry them, and some of the plates had some crust and dried food bits stuck to the bottoms you could scrape it off with your nails. I dont know if this place was worth how much I paid, but it's hard not to compare it to some of the competitors in the albany area that do this same concept very well.

Customers since it opened in Clifton Park. Typically go here a couple of times a year and have not ever been disappointed though you do have to realize if you are getting AYCE that you probably aren't getting the finest sushi. This is a tradeoff people fail to understand and that failure defies logic. Service is good and the food is a good value. The sashimi is usually on par with most non all you can eat establishments for a few dollars more. Nice sized pieces and for our visits fresh. Mixed drinks are generally good but we usually get sake. We don't order a lot of rolls but they offer a few that we like. If you order carefully you generally will leave happy.

I used DoorDash to order a 3 roll lunch special and gyoza from Prime 88. I am a sucker for a lunch special, and picked the spicy tuna, Philadelphia, and eel avocado for my three rolls. In my opinion, these three rolls can tell a lot from a restaurant; how spicy are the spicy rolls? how do their salmon cuts mend with the cream cheese? how fresh is the avocado? how slimy/not slimy is the eel? The spicy tuna roll was a little underwhelming in spice, but that allows it to be enjoyed by anyone who wants to dip their toes into the spicy side of sushi. The Philadelphia roll was creamy, and the salmon had a bite that made it mend nicely. The eel avocado was my absolute favorite, and honestly it might have been my favorite roll ever. The lunch special also came with miso soup. Unfortunately, the miso soup is why my rating did not make it to 5 stars; it was mostly broth with maybe 4 pieces of seaweed and a couple bits of tofu here and there. After reading reviews, I have learned that there is an all you can eat option here. I am definitely looking forward to coming in and experiencing more of the menu that way!

Too much rice on rolls, crab rangoons are horrible, only good thing is the steak teriyaki. My boyfriend got the tuna sushi and said it tasted like metallic - he had to spit it out. We ordered a second time, one last roll and a couple of apps - got the apps after about 10 min and after 30 min asked the waiter a time estimate on the roll and he comes back saying 10 more minutes or so… They either didn’t put the order for the roll through or they gave it to another table (which they had given us someone else’s dish earlier). We just canceled the roll and got the check because we had already been waiting for so long.
We’ve given this place 3 chances and each time have been extremely disappointed. Not worth it. On top of that, they add gratuity in the check for a table for 2… Insane. They clearly aren’t making the money (for a reason) and have to force people to pay it.

This place was a favorite of mine when I lived in the area. When they opened in 2016? 2017? They were new and just trying to get the word out. It was a best kept secret in the beginning with a great value for what you got from the kitchen. After being away for 5 years I’m glad they’re still open. Most of the food is pretty good. But they can use some improvement on their menus. There is no description of the food you're eating. So you have these foreign names with no idea what it is. If you don't know what katsu is, you have no idea if you're ordering fish or beef or chicken. If you ordered dumplings, you have no idea what it's filled with. Is it vegetable? Or is it pork?
The sushi is excellent. Their miso soup, not so much.

Ehhh it wasn't as good as I hoped. It was fine, certainly good enough..but the big red flag for me was the tempura on the sushi. Rather than being crunchy/flakey...it was more...solid/squishy - like it had sat around for awhile and lost its texture. The regular tuna roll didn't have much tuna flavor either. I'm generally happier with Sake Bon sushi vs this place so I probably won't be back. Service was fine, atmosphere was fine.

The charge per piece on over ordering for all you can eat was clear up front and totally fair. However, on our third round, the size of each piece of sashimi increased by a factor of 4 resulting in us receiving far more food than we thought we ordered based on the first two rounds. The staff was polite when informed and while their skepticism of this claim was understandable, however, I feel we should not have been charged for this excess. The overall experience left a bad taste.

Sushi was all rice, lacking flavor. A server placed a new plate over a plate that had food in it. A worker or family or something was just sleeping in a booth barefoot... And to top it off, "ice cream is not included in lunch"??? Go lunch at Wasabi $18 for better EVERYTHING, of $26 for trash food and service.

Sushi Prime 88 strikes a happy middle ground between overly severe, ritualized sushi experience and the Ted's Fish Fry feel of other AYCE sushi bars around Albany. The food took long enough to let you know that everything was being made carefully, but not so long that we had to refill our drinks more than once while waiting. While we were waiting, the appetizers we selected from the menu included a house salad with what my wife called " the best ginger dressing I've found since we came to New York".

Not as large of a selection as other AYCE sushi restaurants, but that really seems to translate to the chef's knowing what they're doing and being focused on the more limited choices. Service was prompt and without issue, and the price was very fair for the quantity of food and drink received.

We'll definitely be back soon. Well done!

Sushi Experience №132

I am a sushi fanatic, and I love the most exotic elements of the cuisine and primarily eat sashimi (which is raw fish without rice) with some rolls mixed in

Generally, if I were to go to an à la carte sushi restaurant, the bill just for me, not including any drinks, would cost $100-$200. This isn’t to brag. It’s just the amount I eat and the types of sushi I eat

At an à la carte restaurant, you pay more for the atmosphere and experience than the food. Though the seafood can be of higher quality cuts, and they’re more expensive, it’s the atmosphere and experience you’re paying for.

So while many all-you-can-eat restaurants have poor-quality food, Sushi Prime 88 has decent-quality cuts of fish and relatively fresh fish.

This makes some sense because they’re able to have more turnover of their fish than they would if they were an à la carte restaurant. So I prefer to go there because of its good environment and great staff. Instead of $200, my meal costs $40, with everything included, a much better deal.

I like to try new places when they have specific rolls (anything with cream cheese in it) and they did. But what I didn’t expect was a $13 sushi roll that had barely anything in it! All I tasted was rice. I’ve gone to many places in the capital region for sushi and this is by far the worst and worst for what you get with your money. Highly disappointed, will not try again when I know I’ve gotten much better for moneys worth. Plus the rice was so dry with the chicken teriyaki, my dog wouldn’t even eat it.

The presentation of food was pretty. Sushi tasted great and the flavors were well-balanced, but there was a significant amount of rice. This seems to be common for all-you-can-eat places, but some of the ends of the rolls I received were almost entirely rice with no filling.

Beware the all you can eat "service fees". They charged extra for the ramen because they said we didn't drink the broth.?? We will get takeout, but never the all you can eat again.

I went with my friends for All You Can Eat here, we had very bad experiences, bad food and bad services and very pricey for tons of sushi rice, with minimal amount of fish. After my friend gave a one star review, we had noticed that this restaurant’s owner followed with many fake 5 stars reviews. When I looked at previous bad reviews, you can find the same trend of good ones right after bad ones were posted. Instead of taking actions to improve their weaknesses pointed out by reviewers, they choose to cover up. Shame on you!

This restaurant was definitely not the best. They continuously got our order wrong, Thry mistaken ramen soup for miso soup….twice. The manager was very nice though and kindly took off one of the soups on our check. After Ordering, One of us got our order 10 minutes later. 38 minutes after that my soup was finally ready. I had ordered as soon as we arrived. That means it took them 1 hour to make my order. I don’t recommend this place. I had a horrible experience and never will go here again. My mom and I didn’t get to eat dinner together. The steak one of us ordered was overdone and tough as well. In the end, we still had to pay 47 dollars. Wow. Just wow.

Wish I could tell you how the food was. Drove twenty minutes because we had loved the food here in the past, got seated immediately and then was ignored, never greeted for twenty minutes. No server even came in our direction. I had to leave with angry hungry toddler. I don’t think I’ll be back.

This review has been edited to reflect the most recent experience, which is likely our last one here.

The sushi is not consistent in either quality or size. We visited three times in short succession and enjoyed our first two visits. We ordered our usual spread the third time, with some confidence that it was exactly the amount of food we wanted, and received rolls that were about twice the usual size. Some of the fish tasted off. As we didn't want to waste food, we ate all except one roll, which was .. unfortunate to say, disgusting.

When we asked for the bill, the waitress noted that we didn't eat the one roll, and said that it would be an extra charge. We explained that we left it because it was terrible. She repeated that we needed to eat it or it'd be an extra charge. She then, extremely agitated, went to get the manager... who proceeded to argue over the extra $3, until he finally went to remove the charge after what seemed like 10 minutes of explaining that we did not like the roll and should not be obligated to eat it.

I suppose we could have let it go and just took it off our normal 20% tip on the bill... but I was incredulous. How dumb is it for a restaurant to risk losing a repeat customer over $3? Why would the restaurant double the size of their rolls and serve old fish, hoping that someone is forced to pay when they can't stomach it? Reputation is everything in this business... when you give someone a horrible experience even once, after many great ones, you will still lose them forever.

For consistently incredible food and solid service... we recommend you try Wasabi, on central Ave in Albany, instead.

Some of the best sushi I've found in Upstate NY. 25$ all u can eat sushi buffet. Food is really good quality. Great wait staff. Nice ambiance inside. Just make sure u finish all you order, else there will be an additional charge for wasting food. ;)

Edit: Just wanted to update my review. I know this is a strange thing to be complaining about but the size of the Sushi rolls from my last visit were TOO big, like, could barely fit them in my mouth big. Please make them "normal" size? Other than that, still my favorite Sushi spot.

Oh man! I love your sushi! I eat it 2 times a week. Unfortunately, today I bought $40 worth of sushi and it was disappointing. Super grizzly tuna, unripe Avocado. I’m sorry but I just can’t believe this happened. I was so much loving your food but now, well I’m not sure. Jim

Loved this restaurant. Food was delicious, servers were amazing, atmosphere was fantastic. We got some dessert as well with the all you can eat sushi. If I lived here, definitely would visit often. Some of our party did complain that their drinks weren’t super cold, but the servers were able to bring them a drink that was more to their liking. Overall I loved it and would recommend it.

Food was great but I called about the all you can eat and was told it was only $18 per plate, my wife then called and was told $28.99 per plate, only for the actual charge to be 36 per plate once we got there.

Very misleading, poor communication

Sushi Experience №189

Husband called to ask for price, he was told $18.99. When we got there it ended up being $36.82, which is fine, so I called again out of curiosity if my husband had heard them wrong and she told me 28.99. We were being watched the entire time as if we were going to steal something. Didn’t feel very welcome but the food was delicious, fresh and hot.

I am shocked that the reviews for this place is so high. I don't recommend this place.
I want to clarify that if you're really into high quality sushi, this is NOT the place for you. You get what you pay for.

The cocktails taste like they've been diluted to the point you don't really taste any alcohol.
The fish in the sushi are all weirdly pale in color, and that really shows how low quality everything is. The most edible option there was the Shrimp sushi.

If you're really young and broke for a nearby AYCE place and you just wanna socialize with friends, this is cheap and doable. (FYI there is an 18% automatic gratuity for AYCE service, which was mid at best)

But if you're craving some high quality sushi, just pay a little bit more and go to Modu Sushi nearby. They don't have AYCE option, but it's for a good reason. Everything is so fresh and carefully crafted.

Horrible, paid 60$ to watch other ppl eat. We ordered got some sushi and waited and waited and waited while everyone one around us got everything they ordered. We told them multiple times we’re still waiting for our order, we got so frustrated and asked for the bill and still had to pay full price for our food we didn’t even get

The rice was overcooked and mushy, the miso soup was extremely overreduced. The appetizers tasted freezer burned and the fish tasted off. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Clifton Park but now i’ll probably never visit again. Just overall not a pleasant experience.

Update 7/9/22 : went for a small get together with friends. Food and service was still terrible.
