I love the backyard at this restaurant. It is comfy, with a wood stove (I love a wood stove!) — though it could be a stylistic choice that actually uses gas, I’m not sure. All I know it was deliciously warm; paired with the tastiest Sushi and Furikake fries, I was very happy.

The service experience is also incredible. Everyone at the restaurant genuinely wants you to enjoy the food and your time there.

My girlfriend and I spent New Year’s Eve at this place, and it was an incredible experience. The atmosphere was excellent, and the food was delicious. The bartender, Santiago, made us amazing cocktails and was very friendly and attentive. We received grapes and champagne to welcome the new year in a very family-oriented setting. It was an exceptional experience in the area.

I have lived in Bed Stuy for 20 years and have always ALWAYS tried to support businesses that open in my area. I kept hearing great things about Trad Room from many different trusted sources. I have been many times and take out frequently as well. And while i have had some exceptional experiences here, i must say that generally i'm left a little underwhelmed. There has obviously been great care put towards so much of the experience but for me the general ennui and indifference of the staff has been the consistenly off putting element of Trad. The food is fine. The drinks are interesting. I pay a check. Get up to leave and it's as if i dont exist. zero acknowledgement literally every time we walk out. I sometimes linger just in case anyone wants to acknowledge me. I wil continue to go here as there really arent any similar options in this section of Bed Stuy, but i believe with just a minimal effort the experience would be a whole lot better.

This was a top-tier culinary experience! At least one of my friends brings this place up once a week; it was so fantastic!
We got some soft crab noodle situation INCREDIBLE, a couple of rolls BOTH INCREDIBLE, a salad SO DELICIOUS, and a tofu something. You can tell they take what they do very seriously and I do appreciate it. I’m coming back for happy hour and eating everything.

Superb, nay, otherworldly delights await you within. Maxwell has one of the best bar programs in this or any other borough. The Martini, the Negroni on menu are unbelievable. Every detail is honed to a fine edge cutting through the noise; glassware is elegant and precious the food is thoughtful and the highest quality.

Trad Room is a BedStuy Gem. Lowbrow but delicious Japanese cuisine. The chirashi bowl and oyster scream value for flavor. David, a Trad Room Bartender, can bless you with a great version of nearly any drink of your choosing. Come for the food stay for the excellent spirits selection.

I recommend this place to everyone in my neighborhood!

Service is impeccable, sake is great. Cocktails and liquor selection is extravagant and the bartenders are knowledgeable and really know their liquors (without it feeling pretentious)

Their Miso soup is fantastic (and vegfor.a
Shishuto peppers delicious, cucumber salad delicious, wish their happy hour menu had more smaller snacks but love what's on it now.

Only been here for happy hour and snacks. I would love to see more vegan options but for.a place where that doesn't seem to be the goal what they have is thought out and well made.

Don't bother. The waiter acted all put out when as she said had to go "find" a paper menu i requested. The layout of their online menu made it a lil difficult compare items and match a drink to what you decide to order.

In my case it would be a sweet battered chicken app you dip in tartar sauce recommened by waiter. It was gross. My entree was a big bowl of bland noodles. The crab was good but made no sense to get a few atop said noodles. I end up adding soy and squeezing lime in it to give it any taste.

When asked to switch vodka for gin in a signature cocktail, the waiter's reply was "Then it won't be (insert name of signature cocktail). I mean just serve the order, don't critique.

When I ordered a beer, I was told they were out of that kind. I asked for another kind i could remember from the menu. Waiter came back to table with a choice of two totally different beers. One ipa, one happy pils. The two kinds I ordered were specifically because they were not very hoppy like IPAs.

The nicest the waiter was was after we paid and she said excuse me while I was walking to the bathroom.

I'd never go back and I wouldn't tell anyone else to go either.

This used to be one of my favorite places to eat in the neighborhood, but unfortunately no longer. The same meals I ordered consistently for a couple of years have gotten noticeably and consistently worse. I always like coming here, the place is always a vibe with friendly staff. The soft shell crab was amazing crispy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The sushi is fresh, and the ramen hits the spot every time. I wish they had different broths like chicken or beef.
That said, the drink menu could definitely use some more options. It’d be awesome to see a wider selection of wines to pair with the food, plus some more fun cocktails to mix things up. Overall, The Trad Room is a great place to grab a tasty meal, but a better drink lineup would make it even better.

This was my second time to Trad Room. I want to love it like my friend who took me there does, but I can't. The server was terrible and seemed to serve other customers faster. He never brought the extra salad dressing we asked for and had to beg another server for. His excuse was that he was serving the whole restaurant, which was a lie. There were two other servers who were way more efficient. The food was overpriced including the under cooked Tonkatsu Pork Cutlet, which by the time it came, we were almost ready to leave. The server did not even say good night when we left and I am sorry for tipping him, because he did not deserve it. Yes, there are great menu items, but on this night the server, management, and kitchen dropped the ball. Not sure I will be returning.

Atmosphere is great great place for a date night or for a meal plus drinks with friends. Every dish we got was great, and we each had different things . Drinks were on point as was dessert. Service was also something to mention as they were not only fast but knowledgeable of their menu. Don't hesitate and get yo this place, you won't regret it.

The Trad Room in Brooklyn is a hidden gem with an inviting charm and an intimate vibe that’s perfect for a date night or relaxed evening out. Inside, the atmosphere is cozy, while the back patio offers a light, airy space filled with natural sunlight. The standout for me was the Brown Butter Old Fashioned—its simple presentation didn’t hint at the complexity within. The aroma had a sweet richness from brown sugar with subtle hints of miso, making you forget there was bourbon at all. Each sip starts smooth and velvety, with the umami from the miso blending effortlessly with the sweetness of brown sugar, and just as you think it’s finished, the whiskey makes a bold entrance, elevating the entire experience.

For starters, I tried both East and West Coast oysters. The West Coast oysters were delicate yet packed with an unexpected punch, while the East Coast oysters were good but more predictable in flavor. I also had the Dragon Roll, a delightful introduction to sushi for me. The eel was rich and flavorful, with a crunchy texture that made it all the more satisfying. The fried Brussels sprouts were a pleasant surprise—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and bursting with umami. The karrage, or fried chicken, was another highlight. Tender and juicy, it had a crispy, light coating, perfectly complemented by the gochujang aioli that added a nice touch of sweet heat.

Even the fries stood out—light, crispy, and a perfect side. The branzino, served with chimichurri, was cooked beautifully, moist, light, and a great balance to the richer dishes. Overall, the Trad Room is a spot where both the drinks and food shine

Sadly, this place seems to be going downhill and pinching every extra penny out of their customers for smaller portions. I’ve been a regular since they first opened so I’ve noticed the changes. My wife and I order burgers once a month and dine in when we have visitors to impress.
Our order of burgers just came and I had not realized they now make you pay extra for fries! This is for a $20 burger. I mean come on, who doesn’t expect fries with a $20 burger. Also, the burger, while still tasty, seems to get smaller every time.
Unfortunately we will now look elsewhere for our monthly fix. First Manny’s, then Mama Fox and now this establishment seems to be dying.

Santiago saved the day! I talked this place up to my new friend/coworker who's just moved from Hawaii (where poke + sushi is king) and our food was great, the hostess Marwa was fantastic and helped us to our seats. However a storm cloud was our waiter Lindsey who got us to our table and rolled her eyes when I sent back our coke cause I thought it was big enough to share with my friend. The rest of the night was seeing her pick and choose who was worth kindness and customer service and us. I know people have good days and bad days but I confirmed with another staff person that she's like that all the time, with other staff and with some guests. As an ex food service person, I do love it here, but I'm worried about anyone who takes their anger and frustration out on guests and coworkers. I love y'all, much love to the rest of the staff and line cooks/cooking staff and to Santiago and Marwa for being a gentle welcome back after a year away from NYC!

Sushi Experience №51

I dined at Trad Room twice in 2021, and both times left me with unforgettable memories. The food was nothing short of incredible, the atmosphere cozy, and overall, I had a wonderful experience that I looked forward to revisiting.

Unfortunately, my most recent visit completely shattered those expectations. The only way to book a reservation now is through a third-party service that requires credit card information upfront. In this age of rampant digital security breaches, I find it uncomfortable and unnecessary to provide my payment details just to secure a table. I decided to call ahead and was assured walk-ins were welcome, with an estimated 20-30 minute wait—perfectly reasonable. Upon arrival, I put my name on the list and was told to expect a 45-minute wait, which I also accepted.

After waiting patiently, I received a text that seats were available at the bar. When I entered to claim them, I was immediately informed via text—just 60 seconds later—that the seats were taken. So I resumed waiting. Roughly forty-five minutes in, I decided to wait inside to avoid missing further opportunities, and soon after, I received another message saying a table was ready. But when I approached the hostess, I was told, "You're still at the top of the list." Confused, I asked why I was receiving texts about available seating when none actually existed.

Instead of a clear answer, I was met with a condescending attitude, as if I was somehow at fault for simply trying to follow the process. The hostess blamed an automated system for the confusing messages, yet her dismissive tone made it feel like I was the problem.
The front-of-house experience was disorganized and pretentious, leaving a bitter taste before I even sat down. By the time we were seated, my partner was so put off by the experience they wanted to leave, but I asked them to stay because of how hungry I was.

Thankfully, the kitchen salvaged the evening. I started with the Crispy Spicy Tuna, which was, frankly, underwhelming, but the roasted shihitos were delightful, served with a whimsical yuzu salt that really elevated the dish. My entrée, the chashu dan dan ramen, was everything I hoped for—comforting and well-balanced. The food alone is what kept this review from dropping to a single star.

In the end, waiting an hour for good food isn’t the issue. What ruined the experience was the snarky, disorganized, and dismissive front-of-house staff. Trad Room’s kitchen may be worth the wait, but the pretentious attitude from the staff left me questioning whether the food is worth the hassle. I certainly won’t recommend this place to friends or family anymore, though I might still brave the attitude for takeout.

Service has gone way down. Prices raised tremendously for frozen fish sushi. The two new "managers" suck. Servers always look confused and running around. Very poor management. Used to be great staff but they'll all gone and brand new people who know nothing about Japanese food. I mean come on, at least learn what Ponzu is. I guess they're busy because they're the only Japanese restaurant in the area and prime location. The inside is dusty AF too. Like clean up geez. Hard pass. If I'm gonna spend $100 on a few pieces of fried chicken and a California roll made with stank spoilt canned crab, I'd just cook it at home. At least when I get food poisoning, I'll be home. And their happy hour? A couple bucks off and half the food as the regular apps! Drinks suck too. They always say they're gonna have a new cocktail list. Waiting for Godot here.

4pm - 6:30 pm

Things to order:

Shishito peppers and Nangban fried chicken are good starters.

If you are with 4 people, I would definitely recommend the special trad room platter that comes with: 1 rainbow real crab roll, 1 dragon roll, 1 shachihoko roll, 1 crispy spicy tuna, 1 vegetarian roll.

Oysters were fresh, ask for the citrus migonette sauce as it doesn't come out.

Everything was delicious and came out in a timely manner.

Staff were happy and sweet. WIll be back to try more things!

Unfortunately, my friends and I had a really awkward experience with our waiter. He seemed super nervous and rushed, was shaking constantly, and had a strange smell. But the worst part was when he yelled at the girl who was helping clear the tables Right in front of us!!! he told her to go clean other tables and that he'd handle it. It was so embarrassing even for us and i find it unprofessional, she ended up crying for the way he embarrassed her. Situations like that are unacceptable. (I hope she's okay.)

Was really excited to go to Trad Room initially. Food and drink are mediocre - crispy rice tuna was bad (rice was overly gloopy), sushi was below average (got the dragon roll, scallop roll, yellowfin and scallion). Only thing that was good was the three fish sashimi and it was very bland / just okay. Drinks were also subpar - ordered Umeshu and yuzu highballs and they were super watery. Negroni tasted nothing like a Negroni. For $12 highballs/$18 cocktails and $20 dishes, I really expected it to be better. There are a lot better options in the neighborhood.

Also servers forgot one dish for 15 minutes after we reminded them it was missing. And it took an additional 20 minutes from when we asked for the check to when we actually got it after reminding the server. It was a busy night but not crazy - just seemed really disorganized.

Really wish I liked this more but would not recommend.

Underrated to say the least. Interactive staff, a huge sense of pride and commitment is very present in the dining room. Atmosphere is very modern and low lit to set any tone you want and the parking is great especially for BedStuy. Found a spot right outside without having to look around. The b48 stops directly in front of the restaurant so if you’re taking mass transit it’s literal door to door service. 15/10 please make this your new favorite place. The food never disappoints, always (yummy)(yummy)! The cocktails are really good and the non alcoholic yuzu ginger fizz is the best cocktail I've ever had. I need to update my review. So… I have been ordering on Uber Eats and the experience has been mixed. Firstly, you can’t order the yummy rice, the only option is the sushi rice. More unfortunate, I have had to throw away fries I’ve ordered. If you know me, you know I love a fried root. But the fries were Soooo salty they were inedible. I even added a note to hold the salt, still had to throw them away. Meh. But the yuzu fizz.

Oh how we love Trad Room! We’ve been coming here frequently for years, bring all our family and friends and order take out. We love the atmosphere, the food and service.

Yet I will have to mention the recent changes to the menu: we used to always order the Spicy Tuna bowl and the STA bowl yet for some reason (which the new manager refused to explain to us in a very rude manner) these dishes are now only available either during brunch or for take out- only. And the sake we used to always drink is also only available for take out now.

So we basically had to find all we items to eat, and realized that ultimately we are paying less - so they are cheating themselves by changing their menu. Oh well! (Do the math, change the menu). Manager’s come and go, we’ll be there to stay!

The sushi is still good but:

.... the steak (in what was formerly the steak frit) was full of fat.
.... The Kara age was actual chicken pieces, now it's thin pieces of chicken in so much batter the dish fried is 75% fried batter and 25% chicken
.... The fries which used to be really good are now deli fries straight from the freezer isle

I've been in NY long enough to see rises and falls of restaurants as owners start to try to be restauranteurs rather than the passionate owners they were. It's sad but this place is entering its final stage.

They were just demoted to sushi only tonight. Next stop is total cross off.

I can t wait what to see who replaces them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Went to Tradroom on my birthday and tried to sit at the bar. The barstool was wobbly and I shook it a handful of times trying to see if the chair was meant to flex or if it was in fact wobbly. Coming to the conclusion that the chair was in fact wobbly, I let the bartender know. He was a short (maybe 5'6) with brown hair and glasses. He came around the bar to tell me the chair wasn't wobbly and that it was the ground. I saw how that could be the issue because I used to work in a restaurant and with wobbly tables, a quick fix is a coaster under the table leg. So I asked the bartender if he would adjust the chair for me, since the issue was the ground. He then proceeded to tell me I was being aggressive. This was a major issue because I am also a black woman. Although I was giggly at first (via the intial chair inspection) I still very calmly and politely asked him to help and he called me aggressive, which is a massive micro aggression. The other bartender (bald white man white a red beard) comes from behind the bar to test out the chair to "prove me wrong" and while he sits in the chair fully reclined (the chairs are not meant to lean back) he tells me the chair is fine and accuses me of being DRUNK! Not only was I called aggressive then accused of being drunk but the chain is fully leaned back and the chairs are not meant to recline! Neither of them could just apologize and help with the issue they just decided to chastise me, call me drunk and aggressive. I ended up just grabbing another bar stool, which was always what I planned to do. They made me feel like I was a jerk for telling them this (which could be a lawsuit waiting to hapoen with a broken chair on the floor) and were forcing me/ gaslighting me to keep sitting in a broken chair! Which I find very hurtful as it was my BIRTHDAY and tradroom is in BED-STUY. A black neighborhood and their WHITE staff is QUICK to label folks with micro aggressions. I don't expect my servers to go crazy with customer service as we all don't get paid enough, but I do expect just general respect and human decency. 1 STAR!

We have come here on various different occasions: brunch, dinner, happy hour. It’s a reliable spot in terms of food. There have been nights where the food wasn’t as great but it’s because the other times had been that much better. ex. one time the sushi rice was overdone and a little mushy, or noodles overdone. But I would say the probability of this happening is low, maybe 1 out of 7 .

I like the crispy rice spicy tuna, brussel sprouts, karage, and the ramen is good too if you’re looking for something hearty.

Happy hour is great, you can get a carafe of sake for $12-13 dollars. And they even have food on their HH menu.

I recommend making a reservation even on a weekday because this place can get super busy out of no where.

Mason the bartender was a d is always on point. He knows his drinks and the food menu. Went there on Mothers Day 2024. The young blonde lady who first greets you is an asset to this establishment. She was all so helpful. Drinks are great Mason the bartender opened up my closed pallet to different things. I live in Jersey, my state can take a few pointers. This is a must try.

Bad experience. I am a regular at this restaurant and probably won’t be coming back anymore. I ordered food for pickup, & paid for an extra sauce to go with my Karaage chicken. Not only did they give me less than 2 oz of the aioli that comes with it, but they had the audacity to leave me a note taped to the box to tell me that I needed to pay extra if I want extra sauce….
I also requested chopsticks/utensils which were not included.

If the staff bothered to pay attention to my order & check the receipt they would see that I did indeed, pay extra. This is very desperate/cheap…… I’m now extremely dissatisfied because the chicken that I normally LOVE is dry and lacks adequate dipping sauce. My spicy tuna bowl was also missing edamame and the other ingredients that it should have come with. The only ingredients in my bowl were ginger and wasabi?

I’ve attached photos for reference.

Beautiful, warm setting with delicious Japanese fare. Had the sashimi (super fresh and tasty), the Brussel sprouts (kewpie mayo), the cucumber (chili and crunchy garlic), and the pork belly (mmmm, fat). The bartenders were also super friendly. Can't wait to come back to try their Empirical Dorito cocktails!

Kept hearing about this place. Came from LES, no reason to travel to Brooklyn for food at Manhattan prices and not even half the quality. Cocktails were pretty good, but didn’t like the bartender. Pretty pushy white dude acting like the place is a lot more than it is.

I really want to like this place, but i feel like every time Ive gone in the past few months either the hours are changed, or they’re understaffed, or they forgot to turn the espresso maker on. This last time we walked in wanting to have some coffee. I opted for still water not having the presence of mind to ask for tap instead. Then they let us know their espresso machine was down after opening the water. We paid for an $8 bottle of water and left. I wouldn’t really care about any of these things on their own but i would say more often than not, Ive had a weird experience here. 🤷 plenty of other good options nearby.

Not sure what happened here. New bartender made me uncomfortable. Usually sit at a table but came a few weeks ago and decided to be at the bar this time. Not sure his name but bartender with the handlebar mustache made this experience feel like my neighborhood spot was in midtown. Liked the Asian bartender a lot better.

Sushi Experience №116

The food is very tasteful, however, the portions make me feel like maybe I shld have eaten before I had dinner there. To me, everything felt small especially the appetizers. We ordered a cucumber salad with chili oil for $9 and it looked like it was only half a cucumber 🥒 that was sliced up. We ordered the Agedashi tofu for $12 and it was 4 tiny cubes of tofu.

The sushi is very tasty but again, you only get a few pieces for what you pay. Skip the cocktails. Not only are they overpriced but they have too much sugar. I ordered the momiji and it tasted like it barely had any mezcal or gin in it.

Even the entre dishes felt small. My friends had the salmon bowl and the wagyu udon (which are in the pics below) and they loved it but they did complain about the size. I shared the branzino for 2. That came with plenty of vegetables for 2 but the actual fish is small and incredibly boney.

The service was veerryyyyyy slooowww and we came on a Monday. It was packed. I had to ask 3 times for a my mezcal pour while the rest of the table received their drinks. The waiter was super nice, he was just over seated it felt like.

Overall, the food was delicious, just small portions.

My four stars are not meant to be a negative as to food quality or taste. One negative was the food that came out in a disjointed order. I don't remember the specifics. I just remember that I was puzzled. A second and more important negative is that the drinks are small yet expensive. I utilized the bakyard space to dine, and even on a cold night, it was comfortable. The host and server were pleasant and welcoming. I would definitely eat there again, without question, but not buy any drinks 😉. Enjoy!

“Great place around the corner from my home. Enough variety in the menu and very tasty. It’s becoming pretty popular now though so make sure you book” - 2022

I have been here many times over the past couple of years and just saw my review from back then. I have to up this to 5 stars! This restaurant has never disappointed me. The food is consistently good and great flavors. The cocktails are delicious and different. It’s bustling restaurant but I never feel rushed which is important. This place will not disappoint.

Trad room has a gorgeous interior, the woodwork is great to look at but it is balanced with glass, leather and other touches that gives it a sultry, modern look. I’ve been here 5 times in the last 6 months and each visit is so consistent. You must get the Spicy Tuna Roll - it’s small, but the perfect starter before their other main dishes. In my most recent visit, we got their Brussels Sprouts (charred to perfection and the kewpie mayo was an amazing addition), Fried chicken (tasty and crisp), and fries. It was happy hour and with 2 cocktails each, the dishes listed and gratuity-it came up to about 55/person. I must say, the cocktails is where you get a true feel for how special this place is. Their bar is stocked with classics and precious Asian spirits, and each cocktail is crafted beautifully. I recommend their whiskey sour. Make a reservation and come to Trad room in BedStuy.

Nothing TRAD about this place… Was seated next to a pair of couples with their toddlers at weekend brunch. The kids were kinda loud and one was crying a lot AS KIDS DO but they were not especially badly behaved. Their waiter flipped out at them and asked them not to come back with their kids, making a big scene about it. Seemed like the guy really hated children. Pretty unnecessary especially for weekend brunch. Won’t be going back even though I really like that cucumber salad…

Trad Room has been my regular date night spot with my boyfriend for the last 2 years or so! They have really great food - definitely go for the Nanban chicken, the spicy salmon bowl (off menu now, but they’ve made it every time I’ve ordered since!), and the STA bowl. The vibe is also fantastic. You can get a little dressed up if you want, but you can also look casual and not feel judged. The only potential negative is that the tables are very close together, but if you’re a big eavesdropper like me, this is kind of the best entertainment (it’s a huge first date spot and we’ve overheard some insane conversations). They also have v fun cocktails. Overall, the best neighborhood spot for a date night!!

The staff overall were very friendly and nice except for the hostess. Maybe this is her first gig or something but she is not very welcoming at all which sucks bc she is the first person a guests interacts with and if I wasn't so hungry and eager to try this place, I would have turned around.

Well well well, I visited here this week after a year and I’m not sure if being on the phone was the problem but the bartender was very rude and began to rush me idk. Not sure. I asked for recommendations, he seemed very annoyed and kinda just gave me a underwhelming response. Handed me my check before I was finished eating and to make matters worst, I ordered a medium well burger and was given a very uncooked burger that I discovered when I reached home. I’m giving up.

Only thing that's been a bit underwhelming was the karage fried chicken.

Biggest annoyance is something you just kind of have to put up with in NYC: the tables are super tightly packed, so expect to have your conversation overheard/overhear others and or/or bump into ppl getting in or out of their seats.

Great vibes, atmosphere and customer service. Food is pretty good! I definitely want to go back and try their vegan friendly ramen.

So, the only complaint I have with this place is I was running late and their requirement is to call if you’re running late past the 15 minute grace period. I called maybe 6 times😭 and it gave a busy signal, then on my final try, it said the number wasn’t in service.

I did tell the hostess about it when I got there. This is something to be aware of because when you make a reservation, they ask to put your card on file and you can be charged automatically. Thankfully, I wasn’t charged for being a no show because it would’ve been $50 lol.
