Sushi Reviews
Sushi Experience №1

This place was busy with great energy when we visited for the first time. A jazz trio was setting up to play. Jazz, in a Japanese restaurant? They ended up being a great addition to the evening and created a very relaxed and fun atmosphere. Music was just the right volume where you could still have a conversation.

The food was better than we expected, after reading some of the reviews here. We ordered several different appetizers and all of them were good. The only one I was not a fan of was the shrimp shumai which I think might have been frozen. Our favorites for the night were the spicy tuna salad, and tai carpaccio dish. We didn't have any rolls, but the ones we saw being served from the bar looked amazing.

We will definitely return when we're in Santa Fe again and try their rolls.

Wear your lightest shade of skin cuz this place is ran by racists , host & waiter left us waiting 20 minutes while they jumped to immediately help new customers sat right next to us , waiter asked if we had been here while cuz lunch specials were no longer available even though host gave us a lunch special menu , continued to wait for another 30 minutes for rolls that did not need to be cooked while about 3 other tables in restaurant already eating, will not be back, Tokyo cafe 1000% better

The gyoza was crisp and tasty. The bento box was good also. The chicken teriyaki had beautifully charbroiled chicken but very bland sauce. How about a choice for spicy teriyaki? Service was a little slow, but ok. Except the staff left dirty plates and used plates and did not remove anything during the meal. We ran out of room on the table. Odd, but this was the 2nd time this happened. Nice place with a few quirks

The food was okay, some of it was good, others were a miss. Starting with the misses, the age tofu was supposed to be served with tempura sauce however this wasn't really the case. At best it was served with a light beef broth rather than a traditional tempura sauce. And by light I do mean quite light, you couldn't taste it at all over the flavor of the tofu. If you want your tofu crispy do not get this dish as the tofu is sitting in the broth when it's served to you, rendering the coating a bit soggy.

The next miss comes in the form of the Unagi Don. This dish costs about $24 however you get maybe 8-10 slices of Unagi (aka eel) arranged in a flower pattern of sorts. For this price this dish is a rip off and not worth the cost. Most unagi dons come with the rice completely covered in a layer of unagi which was not the case here. Even eating the rice generously with each bite of unagi I was still left with at least half a bowl of rice with nothing to eat it with. On top of this, you don't even get a soup to go with it at this price point which is disappointing. In fact, there were no sides provided with the dish. For this same price you could go to the Santa Fe Asian Market and buy an whole eel. At least the eel was moist and heated nicely so there was that.

Now for the good stuff, getting the miso soup was actually quite pleasant. The soup itself had lots of flavor and was really nice on a cool day. My partner got the Tofu Dolsotbop, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The toppings were a plenty and they gave her the option to add the egg in when they brought it tableside. However she did have to ask for the gochujang to be brought out as she was never asked if she wanted it.

As this was our first time there, we haven't had the opportunity to try other menu options however first impressions are that it's over priced. If I were on a date night with my partner at the railyard and we were in the mood for this type of cuisine I might be willing to give it a second chance.

Disappointing Experience at Kohnami Japanese restaurant

I was looking forward to dining at Konami Japanese restaurant but unfortunately, the experience was far from what I had hoped. While the food was good, the service was the real downfall. One of the waitresses Jennifer was incredibly rude throughout the meal, and she wasn’t even our waitress! the entire experience was uncomfortable. From dismissive responses to an apparent lack of patience and respect towards her coworkers. when we asked simple questions, her attitude was shockingly unprofessional and downright rude! Obviously she takes her personal problems right along with her to work and it shows..

It’s a shame, because the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, and the food was well-prepared, but the poor service overshadowed everything else. I don’t plan to return, and I can’t recommend this place until they address their staff Jennifer’s mean ugly behavior.

P.S Alicia is your girl if you do decide to go eat there! So happy with life and it’s her pleasure to give you a good experience not to mention the poor sushi guys they were great as well! Hang in their guys!

Stopped by to have lunch we were greeted by the rudest hostess/waitress. Jennifer stood against the wall contemplating who she was going to destroy with her looks next. The tension in that place that this woman creates with just her presences is crazy! We asked her for a pen as she is standing next to a cup full, she went out of her way to get our bubbly friendly waitress Alicia who was great and happy by the way to get it for us. Not to mention the poor sushi guys who got "everything" wrong according to Jennifer and mind you she was not afraid to talk to herself about it out loud! I really felt bad for all who work there I would hate to need that job. Other then that the food was really good! Yumm

Not sure what’s happened since fall last year but today was awful. Waitress was rude, my teriyaki beef was rotten to taste and smell, my ginger salad was warm and rubbery…

The California rolls were warm and the rice was stale and old.

4 bites and I was completely disgusted. The restaurant smells moldy and there were fruit flys everywhere.

The place isn’t clean.

Will be going back soon to re review! Every place has its ups and downs.

This place is totally underrated for lunch. Coming from CA I'm biased and this place was phenomenal for being in the middle of the desert.
My husband came here probably 15yrs ago and loved it. It's still great.
Lunch specials were perfectly presented and filling. Salmon sushi and teriyaki was delicious.
The best part it doesn't break the bank.

We ordered a bunch of sushi, which was good for what you can get in Santa Fe. The sushi rolls would be more varied. Most of them had shrimp tempura. The cherry blossom roll is unique and very good. However, one of the worst service experiences I’ve had. We were there for almost 2 hours and still didn’t get all the rolls we had ordered. Ignored most of the night. Even spoke to the manager but it didn’t make much difference. Service can make or break a restaurant experience.

So, earlier I came home from eating some miso soup and white rice at this place… I wanted to order more but Gennifer, the waitress, was acting kind of weird. When I came in she said hi and asked “how many,” after I told her 2 she started doing some other stuff and made us wait for a table. Then she came back and asked how many again and I realized she was the older white lady from a review I read before coming. We get to our table and she offers miso soup which we say sure to. She kept leaving the table abruptly after asking us what we wanted. We said rice, then she left quickly without hearing the rest of the order. She came with the rice and ran off again for a while. So once she comes back and asks us what we want again, I am too upset to order. My friend still wanted some kimchi and I asked if we can take it to go.

When Gennifer brings the check, she billed us for California w/ tempura which cost about $25. We only got miso soup, white rice, and kimchi which cost about $15 when she corrected the error.

Alicia my waitress was so nice and welcoming. The sushi was delicious, I got the playboy, and got the fried noodles Yaki Udon with shrimp and the noodles were most likely made on site, best noodles ever, the shrimp was fried and breded. I never get dessert but since everything was so good I decided to try the fried bananas, It tasted like a fried breading with banana pudding was drizzled in chocolate I would definitely order again, the strawberry Mochi was my first time trying that wasn't store bought, I will never want store bought mochi again lol. There are many places to eat in Santa Fe but I highly recommend this place is a hidden gem! Next time I'm in town I am stopping again

I know that the 5 star rating seems strange when I gave 4 stars for everything else, but the owner is a gem of a human being.

I've been to this restaurant for quite some time and it had been a few years since I had been, I had a bad experience and spoke to the owner later that week. Given perspective on their situation due to unforeseen circumstances I was moved.

The atmosphere is solid, the food is great considering the closest ocean is 850 miles away, it's fantastic.

The service is great, I would recommend that you come at least an hour and a half before they close, other than that, this is a fantastic spot for sushi in Santa Fe. Especially for a good, fresh, tasty meal close to downtown.

Google doesn't reflect their closing hours accurately but just assume they close a little sooner.

Worst Uber Eats experience ever. I ordered over $100 of food. Only got half of it. Called and was told I had to place another "small" order to get the rest of my food because otherwise they had no way to get it to me. So ordered a miso soup. 90 minutes after my initial order, finally got the wrong Ramen (no pork) and no miso soup. Also, like a quarter cup of cucumbers for $8. Was told the owners would call me to fix it and they never did. A horrible experience all around. Ended up feeding my kids mac n' cheese. Maybe it is okay if you're in person, but definitely don't order for delivery.

I enjoy the newer menu, It has a fresher feel and it's innovative in some regards. I feel the broth in the ramen needs to be developed as it was a bit bland. I understand that it's a "vegetable ramen" but I struggled to find the vegetables other than a sliver of a carrot and spring onions. The prices are pretty good and the fish taste fresh.

We have been going to Kohnami for several years. The food has gone down in taste and quantity. The waitresses always appears to be in a bad mood.
What was shocking was that they automatically charged us, group of 4, 20% tip! To-go automatically charged 12% tip and when we dine we tip 18% or more but forcing customers to pay 20% is definitely not the right thing to do. And they had space below for additional tip. Hard pass! You guys keep bringing this nice restaurant down every year!

Staff aside from one worker seemed to take an off day. Smoking in the back patio with what looked like to be alcohol as well as seemed a little strung out. The other waitress couldn’t even open her eyes and the smell of weed was in the background. It took them close to 2 hours to even be served our room temp sushi and mussels that did not taste fresh. This has been the worst time we’ve had with this company. We were once avid customers but shall warn our friends about any upcoming visits.

First off, the food was really pretty good. We had the nigiri special and bento box for lunch, tempura appetizer was fresh. I would come here again… except for the terrible service.

Our waitress was abismal. Had to give 1 star because there’s no option for zero. Older woman, upset because the other server who was scheduled to work didn’t show, but we were the first people in there for lunch, and she acted like she couldn’t be bothered. 3 other parties came in soon after. She never smiled, never said thanks, never asked how our meals were. When I asked if we could have some more water, she only filled my cup despite the fact that my friend’s glass was right next to mine, empty. Didn’t even offer to fill that glass. She tried to remove plates that still had food on them, without even asking if we were done. The sushi chef behind the counter did not appear to enjoy working with her either.

Anyway, would’ve given a basic tip if the waitress was at least generally polite, but curt abrupt statements to any customers who your job is to serve is just rude. Seems like if she thought about her situation a little differently, she could’ve been happy that now ALL the tips would be hers, instead of having to split them with another server. Oh well…

Santa Fe is filled with service jobs, and lots of tourists come and are ready to spend money. Poor service can kill a business.

We have dined here several times before and have never had an experience quite like this.

We (23F and 30F) ordered a bottle of wine and were scrutinized for our IDs. Waitress asked us on our IDs and looked at them for over 3 minutes, which believe me is a super long time to be staring at a pair of IDs. She quizzes us on our birthdays and our last name and address... then said we were lying about our bdays, even though they are clearly printed on our valid and legal IDs.

Even though our check was nearly $100 for the pair of us, we were checked on every 5 minutes feeling like they were rushing us out, despite it being 3:30pm and the restaurant was empty.

We were so uncomfortable that we left as soon as we could, and used the bathroom at another establishment. We even had to debrief after lunch because we couldn't quite believe the horrible service we got.

The server kept badgering us about clearing plates that were clearly full, and clearing our bottle of wine that still had about a quarter left.

We just wanted to enjoy a nice lunch with wine before going to the Violet Crown to see Barbie, but we left with a bad taste in our mouth.

Food was average, service wasn't great, we probably won't return which is disappointing because we come here often.

We left a 15% tip instead of 20% for the first time ever. :/

I arrived at 5:28 and they told me to wait; that my order was being made. Twenty minutes later the hostess asks what is your order? She then proceeds to tell me the ticket was never handed to the sushi chef even though I had already been charged over the phone. She asked me to wait some more while he made it. I said “No I want my money back.” She was too busy and overwhelmed to cancel my charge at that moment. She eventually did but can’t believe I didn’t get offered something to come and try them again. After 40 minutes we went to check on our two rolls. Turns out our waitress forgot to put our ticket in. There was only one other table occupied in the restaurant at that time. There were three other tables who came in after us who all had their food and we're eating. We were on a tight schedule so ask them to make our rolls to go at that point.

The service was good, we were well attended, the food was rather bad. We ordered their signature Bento dish which comes with protein (meat or tofu), tempura, a salad, sushi rolls, pickles, vegetable and rice. The teriyaki chicken was barely warm and quite rubbery, definitely not fresh at all, but rather precooked, quickly warmed in a microwave and smothered with the sauce. The tempura was very greasy and it fell off the shrimp and vegetables, the inside was cold. I am of the impression that the tempura was already fried previously, stored (perhaps from the day before ?) and then simply refried in an attempt to heat it again. Hence it was so greasy, the contents cool and rubbery and the batter simply falling off. The pickles were shriveled and unappealing. The only two items that were really acceptable was the salad and the rice. We also ordered sushi as appetizers, which were rather expensive and not that good. To sum it up, something in all this fare was not becoming, for within a couple of hours I got stomach issues. Maybe we had our dinner too early (around 5pm) and that was all available at the time. What raised my suspicions early on was the fact that the food was served rather too quickly after having been seated.
The price rating on google giving $$ seems to be rather misleading, for I would definitely mark this as a $$$ and $$$$ place.

Almost insulting vegetable sushi roll - it was literally iceberg lettuce wrapped in rice. Got it as takeout so just threw it away when I got home and had to cook real food for dinner :(

By far the best sushi I've ever had in my life, great service, beautiful setting. The green chile tempura roll made me feel like I died and went to heaven.

Food was not great. Waitress was horrible considering only two other tables had people eating there. Should have known better when I noticed how dirty everything was. Would hate to see what the kitchen looks like.

Ramen was gross. Egg was blue, noodles not fully cooked, raw carrots. No need to eat at this place.

Always Fast. Always Yummy. Never messed up an order. I get sick from eating non-fish meats and while they serve such meats here I’ve never felt sick. So they must be very good about cross-contamination. Can’t say the same for most other eateries.
Update: sometimes the fish is dyed. I now ask to see it before ordering.

Not a fan
Had to walk to the back to find a waiter

Miso soup came out tepid temperature

Sushi bar surface was visibly dirty - waiter cleaned after I pointed it out.

Watched sushi chef clean back of prep area and sweep floors- didn’t wash his hands before prepping my food, then rinsed his hands with water only when he realizes I’m watching.
Yuck.

Misfire on appetizer order

Fugggetaboutit !!

It had a great menu. It had quaint indoor floor-pits in private little rooms. Too sweet! It had a wonderful outdoor patio for sitting with the ambiance of a waterfall. Food...5-star

Last time going there I recommend you go to Kai sushi and dining or fun noodle bar. So we waited an hour just for water, it was so hot in there it was uncomfortable, and the waitress was extremely rude that I just left. No one deserves to be treated inhumane. She also spilled alcohol in my underaged friends water. It’s also extremely dirty in there.

We eat here pretty often. Most of the time it’s good. Sometimes things aren’t great, but that’s OK. The wait staff is generally really nice and the atmosphere is good. Last night, a woman who I assume may be a manager, often storms around. She has an incredibly sour look and was grabbing our dishes while we were still eating off of them. She has done this on several times when we’ve eaten here. Her extreme unpleasantness can reek through the restaurant when she is there. She might wind up making me avoid this otherwise decent restaurant.

The food was good. Let's start there. However, the customer service was horrible. The server asked what we needed when we first came in. We asked for more time. She gave time all right. She never came back. After 15 mins. I asked her if she could take our order. She said to come to the cash register. She was not coming to us. No one in that restaurant ever cracked a smile. Felt I was bothering them. Then she charged us and added an "automatic gratuity" and tipped herself 18%. What? She didn't do anything worth a tip. She even had us come to her. That is unacceptable. Also, the restaurant is NOT wheelchair accessible, so if you can't do stairs, don't bother. Good food, very...very poor sevice (that obviously deserves an automatic tip!). I would not return.

Food was actually quite good, but it took over an hour from placing my order to getting my food. There were also a number of dishes we ordered that were forgotten that we had to remind the staff of a few times. Appetizers came after main courses as well.

I never leave reviews but I was just so disappointed in this place. A few months ago me and my boyfriend came to try it as we have never tried sushi before. We got there around 2:30-3 and got seated in the back. there were only around 3 tables seated in the front so it wasn’t too busy, 2 of them already had their food anyway. I ordered miso soup and it got there pretty quick and then we ordered our sushi. We waited for almost 2 hours and did not receive our food until around 5:00-5:30! We only ordered ONE type of sushi for us to share and it took 2 hours? We were pretty sure our server had just completely forgotten about us or he just didn’t care enough to fix it. He was extremely rude and overall just disrespectful and for the entire 2 hours we were waiting, he completely avoided us. He would walk down the hallway and we would be prepared to ask him how much longer but then he would turn or turn around last minute because he didn’t want to confront us. It was extremely rude, we weren’t offered refills for water or anything. Just completely ignored. Another server had seated another couple in the back around an hour after we were seated and they received their sushi before we even got ours. The sushi itself was pretty good and we both enjoyed it, however the service was terrible and it was really hard to enjoy it when we got treated so terribly. I don’t know if it was a matter of not caring or slight racism but it was just overall extremely bad service. If there was better customer service we would definitely have wanted to come back because the food was good.

Came here for my birthday dinner. What a disappointment. Our server never introduced herself so I don't know her name. We waited 15 minutes for her to drop off water. When she finally came back to take our order, she had no knowledge of how many pieces of sushi came in Chirashi Sushi dish. She slammed our appetizer plates on the table so loudly that it startled me. All the food we ordered came out at different times. My husband got his appetizer first and mine came out about 10 minutes later. His entree also came out 15 minutes before I received mine, so he had finished eating by the time I got my dish. The server never checked on our table again and I couldn't get her attention to request an additional side of sauce. My drink was never refilled and a refill was never offered. Finally, we had to flag down our server to get the check. The food was decent but I'll never return because the service was unacceptable, and especially disappointing for a birthday celebration.

Great little restaurant downtown. The heart attack sushi is amazing. The bento boxes are a very good size meal with everything you need except desert! We tried the noodles and that was a giant bowl of noodles with tender tender pork that are an option to add in.

What is it with Santa Fe Japanese restaurants being owned by Koreans? Why don't they open Korean restaurants, The last time I was here the owner and his wife had a huge fight in the middle of the restaurant. That alone told me they weren't Japanese. There seems to be a large turnover of wait staff.

The Food tasted like fast-food Japanese food. The chicken Teriyaki was strips chicken breast in what seemed like canned Teriyaki sauce. The Shrimp Tempura had what seemed to be 1 large prawn cut into 3 thin strips and then a bunch of other vegetables. The tempura was a thin barely cooked batter. The Dragon roll on the menu didn't say it had imitation crab, but did. The back room seating had a hallow dismal atmosphere and the service was mediocre.

Came here for dinner tonight. The Sushi was great and our server was notably overworked, total understanding there with their staffing shortages. However, the (what I assume is the manager or host) was completely out of line. Yelling at her own employees directly in front of all of the guests. In fact most of the guests spoke up about it. This woman stormed around the restaurant acting like a tyrant, ignoring customers, telling customers they can sit at the bar and then telling them they were not allowed to sit there. Completely unprofessional. kudos to the staff who are working under this overly demanding, rude, woman. If it weren’t for her, the experience would have been great.

Good atmosphere. Waiter was friendly and efficient. Teriyaki,Tonkatsu, Tempura and miso soup are good. Noodle is not the right type. Egg in ramen is hard boiled instead of marinated soft yolk egg. Sushi is below par. That’s why I gave a four instead of five.

We’re in Santa Fe for the night and took a chance on this place because my fiancée loves sushi. Could not have been a worse decision on our part. Usually I’m very forgiving but from the beginning this place was so off. Our waitress was extremely rude when we asked if there were any specials that night. She acted annoyed when we needed more time to look at the menu and gave us dirty plates to eat off of. Literally wilted lettuce scum stuck to the plate. When our sushi did finally arrive, there was a hair underneath the roll, very obviously not belonging to either of us in our party. There was also a foul odor we smelled throughout the experience.
We ended up leaving and will absolutely not return.

Ordered through their preferred delivery option door dash. First off, my order came with no utensils or sauces as I requested and should be standard for ANY delivery order. Second, I ordered 3 different sushis. When you order “sushi” (nigiri), each item is TWO pieces. That is standard at ANY sushi restaurant I ordered $24 worth of “sushi” and got THREE pieces TOTAL. In all, my order was $83 and they couldn’t be bothered to include chop sticks, utensils, or ANY sauce. Then, when I tried to call them so I could drive over and get the stuff myself, they hung up on me. I drove there anyways and they wouldn’t answer the door because it was 9:02 and they closed at 9:00. They just waved me off as I tried to get their attention. Door dash at least refunded me partially, but now I have all this stuff I can’t even eat.

So my husband and myself were excited about this place, well we left disappointed the women walking people to their table was rude and she left an uncomfortable impression throughout the atmosphere of the restaurant we came 05/01/21 at 3:00p.m. So we order and I got my plate my husband got noodles waited a half hour for a bowl of noodles. Wouldn't recommend this place to people visiting Santa it's a horrid representation of Santa Fe, mainly really disappointed with the women with the salt and pepper hair seating people. If you had a bad day leave early, or if you hate your job find something else! Hospitality is majo. for business. It's the heart of the business
