Nami Nori is a casual temaki bar specializing in open-style sushi hand rolls. Our menu features signature temaki, including crunchy varieties, as well as takes on the classics and a special vegan section. The open-style temaki allows guests to enjoy a wide variety of flavors, in each fun-to-eat, visually tempting bite.
We also serve Japanese-inspired dishes and desserts. Our Montclair location is a BYOB establishment. Our beverage menu offers non-alcoholic beverages only.
This was my second time eating at this location and it was even better than I remember the first time. Everything is so fresh and the menu always has some unique seasonal items and great starters/desserts.
Obviously the temaki sets are the star of the show, and what is great is you can order them as sets or individually. They also have a great number of vegetarian options as well so there is truly something for everyone, even if you don’t prefer the fish options.
The tuna crudo never disappoints, the seasonal fluke ceviche was amazing in flavor and presentation, and the corn ribs and shishito peppers were a great break-up between courses.
I did not photograph our temaki sets this time so I’m sharing photos from the first time we ate at this location, since we ordered pretty much the same items.
I highly recommend this place for a date night, girls dinner, or any special occasion. The presentation, service, and food really make this place a standout! I can’t wait to go back.

Came here to celebrate a birthday, and it did not disappoint. Atmosphere feels beach-side chic, and we comfortably sat at the sushi bar. We had 2 appetizers, my husband got the signature temaki, and I built my own journey. Favorite bites by far were the Toro and Scallion, xo scallop, and the trout appetizer. Lemon curd churros were delightful for dessert!
They have a cocktail menu that we did not try, but looked very tempting.
The staff was super friendly and informative, and the food was perfectly paced.
Would definitely recommend for a date night, celebration, etc. And it's BYOB! (liquor store up the street if you forget) :)

I visited this place on a weekend evening after a friend's recommendation and made a reservation. My friend and I ordered the Spicy Tuna Dip and three Temaki each. The wooden and clean decor made for a relaxing atmosphere.
Based on the staff's recommendation, I tried the XO Callop Tobiko, Salmon Serrano, and Aka Ebi. My friend ordered the Spicy Crab Dynamite, which she said was incredibly delicious.
Peeling off the plastic wrap from the rolls was a bit tricky, but despite not being a fan of fish roe, I enjoyed everything. I also found out that it's a BYOB spot, so I’ll definitely bring some drinks next time!

We’ve never been here before but I’ve heard many good things from people who work in the area. It’s really recommended that you make a reservation. We came a little late and they said we had by a certain time since they need to seat the next reservation. Fair. It seems like they have a lot of regulars. Instantly feeling out of place and having the host have a personal conversation with both of them, we didn’t get that same personable experience
Like I said, we’ve never been here before so we aren’t sure how ordering works. We needed some guidance so we asked the waitress to explain a little bit so we make sure we order correctly. I felt glances from the customers sitting closely next to us and instantly felt uncomfortable. I felt almost judged by the waitress too for not knowing how to order here. We’ve never been here before, we simply don’t know how it works, why are strange looks So right from the bat I felt out of place and uncomfortable.
The appetizers we ordered were extremely salty we both agreed. We ordered the shishito peppers and the top neck clams. Despite the salt, the peppers were extremely yummy ranging in spice head depending where you bite (due to the seeds). The sauce was very good. The clams were meh, again very salty but I wouldn’t order them again. Extremely chewy and wasn’t that good.
In between rounds, they gave us clean plates. They gave us extremely hot plates to eat the cold sushi on. Super weird but at least they’re clean. We only selected 5 temaki for our first go around since we weren’t sure what was going to be served to us. We ordered them and expected more to it. Most of the rolls we got were just meh. We ordered two more rounds since we were still hungry. Our favorites were the fried oyster and spicy lobster. The triple (with sea urchin and caviar) honestly tasted like dirty sea water. I have never had it before and this is the best I can describe it. $38 roll, $19 a bite and about two bites per roll. We split it, didn’t like it, and ordered it by accident since we didn’t check the price. Not worth it.
We were expecting more. And we’re a bit disappointed. We spent the car ride home trying to decide if it was worth coming back to try again, perhaps on a quieter night. They also let us stay past when they originally said so we could order more. We still left and ordered more food at another restaurant since we were’t filled and spent over $100/person.
Oh, and it’s BYOB!

Chef Allan was AMAZING! Best sushi and special experience when sitting at the bar area. Other service could definitely be better with the price we paid. We waited 15 minutes when we already had a reservation. With how expensive it is it was disappointing. If you want a good experience sit at the bar. Again props to chef Allan if it wasn’t for him we would’ve walked out.

I wanted to like this place, but the service and the wait for food was subpar.
The interior was nice and clean, so walking into it was pleasant. We got seated at the sushi bar (it was pretty busy - this was on a Friday lunch).
We ordered the caviar service, which came with about 4.5 leaves of rice chips, the caviar, and an onion dip. 8/10, the texture and flavor combo was nice, but the caviar wasn't the best.
Then we ordered 10 Temakis. 5 of them were from the Starter Set, and the other 5 were a la carte: Ebi, Spicy Lobster, 2 x Salmon Avocado, and the XO Scallop.
Food was 8/10 all in all, but what disappointed us most was the wait for them. The first roll didn't come until what felt like 15 minutes after we finished our caviar. The whole time was spent people-watching or conversing.
Service was not great.

The level of thought that went into making sure your sushi is the same delivered as it is in the restaurant is amazing! Wrappers on the temaki to keep the nori crispy and the tin for the spicy tuna dip is AMAZING! I've dined in the restaurant and this was my first time getting delivery. 20/10!

I recently dined at Nami Nori with high hopes, especially after hearing rave reviews about their sushi offerings. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I tried their tuna crudo.
Firstly, the presentation was lackluster. The dish arrived looking sloppily plated, with the tuna slices haphazardly arranged on the plate. It lacked the elegance and finesse I expected from a sushi restaurant of this caliber.
Moving on to the taste, the tuna itself was bland and lacked freshness. It tasted like it had been sitting out for too long, losing its vibrancy and succulence. The supposed "crudo" preparation did little to elevate the flavor of the fish; instead, it highlighted its lackluster quality.
Furthermore, the accompanying garnishes did little to salvage the dish. The supposed citrus dressing lacked acidity and failed to impart any zing to the tuna. The promised burst of flavor from the jalapeños was absent, leaving me with a mouthful of uninspired fish.
To add insult to injury, the portion size was underwhelming for the price. I expected a more generous serving considering the premium price tag attached to this dish, but alas, I was left feeling unsatisfied and out of pocket.
Overall, my experience with the tuna crudo at Nami Nori was thoroughly disappointing. With lackluster presentation, uninspired flavors, and underwhelming portion sizes, it failed to meet even the most basic expectations. Save your money and your taste buds, and opt for another dish on the menu.

I always say to people that I bring here that they serve flavor bombs that explode in your mouth. This place is a true experience. Atmosphere and service are always top notch and the food never disappoints. They serve non-vegan and vegan items so it is a great place to go with a mixed dietary restriction group. They can even take care of Gluten Free people as well. Would give this place 6 stars if I could.

Came here for the first time for an anniversary and another on a whim. The sushi is definitely top-notch and a nice portion. I feel like a set fills you up well enough. Lots of variety in options and flavors to suit any sushi enjoyer.
The appetizers have been hit and miss, though. Clams were paired with a sauce that did not compliment each other. Japanese potato salad did not differentiate itself well from regular potato salad, but I was quite pleased with the cucumber salad, miso soup, and tuna with rice chips.
The sushi rolls were all good, and some were great. I think my favorites were the regular tuna and the mushroom. Salmon with serrano pepper was also very good. Something to keep in mind when you order is that not every ingredient is listed on the menu. The lobster sushi has shrimp (which I'm allergic to), and the scallop has a spicy topping that, depending on the day, might be spicier than you want. I suggest making your allergies and preferences known beforehand.
I highly recommend getting the mochi churro "mochurro" with lemon curd for dessert. It's so delicate and sweet. The lemon curd compliments the cinnamon flavor well. I wish I had gotten two orders the last time I went lol.
Overall, it was a good experience, and I feel I'm better prepared for the next time I visit. Thanks for the food!

Small and absolutely perfect. Make reservations! Also open for lunch on some days and there is a sushi bar available. The sushi is unique in that each piece is individually wrapped in sustainable plastic so the nori retains its crunchiness. Have you ever noticed that nori on typical sushi is soggy? I didn't either, until I tried the crunchy nori at Nami Nori. So good! The whole table was raving about it. We had a business lunch here with 6 guests from NYC and LA. Everyone thought it was spectacular. It was a wonderful way to show off the amazing restaurant scene in Montclair. Beautiful minimalist space. Pretty expensive so date night or special occassion appropriate. Will be back!

We ordered nami nori salad and spicy tuna dip which we really enjoyed, temakis (classic and signature set) seems all fresh but I will opt out for cucumber black sesame under the signature set, their uni was “okay”. Not pictured here but mochurros for dessert is a MUST!
Pros: everything looks superbly clean, options for vegetarian, all gluten free, each meals are well prepared.
Cons: *store prefer reservations, QR code menu only, parking can be a challenge, temaki can be a bit messy to eat.

The best way for me to describe this dining experience is well curated. The atmosphere was sleek and modern to create an elevated feel. The food was also very enticing and had unique flavors. The temaki roll set was pretty amazing all around with; fresh ingredients, toppings that complemented the seafood well, crispy nori, and bold flavors. I will say though, occasionally one of my bites would be almost too savory from uneven topping distribution, but that’s a nitpick. Aside from the set, the crispy rice chips with spice tuna dip was a great appetizer to really prep your taste buds for the start of the great meal.

The space is beautiful and I’m impressed that Montclair would even open up a spot that’s super established in Manhattan. That’s a bold move!! But worry not, because NN in Montclair is driving on greased wheels.
I had the classic set of 5!!! And although in my unpopular opinion, sushi is a visual delight rather than an actual satiating meal, every piece of roll was truly delicious. If anyone remembers that one Spirited Away movie where Chihiro starts wolfing down the food she finds at an abandoned restaurant, that’s how I felt eating sushi at NN. If heaven is real and they offered unlimited quantities of sushi, I truly believe it would be Nami Nori’s.
And Zeek, or Z, it was truly a pleasure having been served by you. Your utmost patience and understanding with my party’s mishaps truly demonstrated to me the principles and integrity behind an ideal server. For that you’ve earned my respect, and I can’t wait to take my mom (who works not too far from the area) here.

Food was off the charts. Appetizers: tempura misto, Tuna crudo, clam appetizer, and tuna poke were all great. We ordered the custom temaki, all different hand rolls. Uni roll was great as well as the coconut shrimp and the tuna ones. Sushi chef was very nice and even talked to us for a minute about the operation. Really interesting experience, but you’ll pay for it. Definitely worth it for an occasion, or just a Tuesday night!
Decor and design of the place is amazing.
Service was attentive and clean, just as personalized as some would prefer. Overall great experience, something different for the area.

The food was fantastic therefore pricey.
The service was ok.
The kitchen is open space so we could see the chef. Only one chef serving 8 customers at that time ( was not that crowded) and he was slooooooooooooow motion. He would get stuff from the other side of kitchen and out the stuff back in the fridge, then taking something else like you would do in your own kitchen listening to music. ( he wasn’t but he was at his own pace) The set has 5 pieces of Temaki. If you serve a group of 4, you have 20 pieces to make. He was making two at one time while making someone else’s. The counter next to us got their order delayed and the chef did not sound like he was keeping track. 40 min into it we were bored waiting for the rest of food. Then he would randomly bring temaki mumbling the name in his mouth. Dude, you know what you are making but we don’t. Tell us what it is at lease!! Oh and please do not wear strong perfume if you are in a restaurant business especially you are not serving cheap food and it is raw food.
By the way the one in manhattan was super good and fast.

Service was good, I'd recommend the tables vs the counter. On the tables you get all the rolls you order at once, and eat at your own pace. Spicy tuna dip is a must. We had the signature set, but the last visit we had the classic. Classic was definitely better, but the signature set gives you all sorts of different flavors. Our favorites were the cucumber black sesame and the tuna poke. We added a few more, but spicy lobster is the way to go! Best temaki of the night.

Ok so I'm a big foodie and do alot of research on new spots before I eat there. Food, service, and ambiance are very important things that make up a great restaurant. Unfortunately This place was not worth the hype in my honest opinion. The sushi was so dry and flavorless, I actually wished they gave you soy sauce or ANY sauce for that matter so I could at least enhance the flavor of each roll. The seaweed wraps tasted like fishy rubber, and hate that you had to take the plastic wrap off yourself. I'm paying to have good food, don't make me work for it! The appetizer we got some type of tartare dish that didn't even come with enough rice chips for the 3 of us. Honestly the best part of the meal was the cookie for dessert. My friend said it best "they should just become a cookie shop".
My girlfriends and I planned this girls dinner in advance (we haven't seen each other in a very long time), and so we were really looking forward to some good food (especially me since I haven't had sushi since before being pregnant and having a baby). We left the restaurant feeling let down and completely disappointed. The service was not even great. Took forever for the waiter to come by, then after the food was delivered she disappeared the rest of the night. I had to literally hunt someone down so we could pay our bill and get out of there. Ambiance, great....that's about all that was great though. So bummed but this place is a "one and done" for me and my friends.

I was so overwhelmed with our experience at Nami Nori Montclair, NJ that my review feels like I'm writing a book!
First, to say the food was incredible would be an understatement. I spent a month in Tokyo and Osaka years ago with a Japanese friend of mine on Hip Hop Music Business. He introduced me to some of the culture as well as the food. In short, so much of the Japanese mindset is based on detail and excellence to the highest order with everything the people do in their life. That being said, the food I had at Nami Nori was on the same level as the food I had in Japan, which I haven't been able to say for too many years now in NY or NJ. Being a vegetarian I especially enjoyed their "Vegan Set" and the way they advanced the seasoning of the food which is by far the best I've eaten to date!
I went to the Montclair location before booking a reservation for my wife's birthday. She too loves Japanese food but has also been very disappointed with the choices in NJ and the Tri -state area so I wanted to feel the energy beyond viewing the pictures and menu online before choosing to dine there. In terms of customer service, when I arrived the restaurant had not opened yet but there was a young lady outside (wish I got her name) that after sharing my concerns about Japanese food and my wife's birthday she graciously brought me inside. She introduced me to Sam (a female) who allowed me to look around and then took the time to book my reservation as well as some special requests for the evening. At dinner the customer service from our server Lisa, and all of the staff-team followed the same positive energy and more! My wife was overjoyed on every level. So much so she's been following Chef Taka's tutorials on YouTube! Nami Nori is guaranteed excellent food and customer service from a caring professional staff.
Lastly, I need to mention the assistant manager Zeek who was not only gracious, sensitive and attentive through out our evening together but also extremely knowledgeable about the restaurant in general. Just as we finished our meal Zeek brought a sesame miso chocolate chip cookie, incredible! with a candle in it and wished my wife a happy birthday... the epitome of customer service. We came back the next evening after leaving the gym. Same outstanding quality food and service.
Thank you Chef Josh, massive respect to you and your skills as well.
Sincerely, Grateful and Thankful

There are too many bugs. A bug ran into me while i was waiting for food. I told the server, but she ignored it. Food was soso
we ordered classic and signature sets. there was a weird cucumber roll. There was not much protein to eat. I don't want to pay for cucumber. I went to many sushi restaurants. I would say this place is overall below average for the price.

I ate at Nami Nori in July of 2023. I was so excited to finally try it out after hearing about their NYC locations!! My friend and I both ordered the lunch special ($20 for 3 rolls and two appetizers). It is a great deal, and there are many vegetarian options!! We especially loved the avocado toast, sweet potato, and the salmon temaki!! The food was very fresh and tasty. I highly recommend Nami Nori for a great lunch in Montclair!!

Lovely people, very nice ambience (although tables are smushed together so you feel like you're eating with the people next to you). BUT--THE FREAKIN" PLASTIC WRAP!!!!!! Oh my God, it is so BIZARRE and absolutely ruined our entire meal. I had been here previously and sat at the sushi bar, so we were unprepared for the ridiculous and pretentious way the food is served. The sushi is served like a taco, with the nori seaweed like the taco shell and the fish and other ingredients encased inside--all good at the sushi bar, where they don't encase the food in plastic sheets--very fresh and tasty if quite expensive. But when they bring your order when seated at a table, the nori is encased in two pieces of plastic--no lie! And they tell you it's very easy to remove except for the fact that there is an actual instruction manual at each table! They tell you to pinch one end and the plastic just slides off. WRONG. No matter how carefully we tried, the plastic stuck to the seaweed wrap, the nori ripped, and our food just spilled onto our plates. We even had not one, but two friendly employees come to our table to show us how to do it by GRABBING OUR FOOD WITH THEIR BARE HANDS WITHOUT ASKING. Between us we have 3 college degrees, and this plastic stuff was almost impossible to remove. First we were laughing at this ridiculous concept, then we were crying when the check came. Whoever came up with this idea really needs to rethink this. I cannot recommend this place to anyone--please Nam Nori, I beg of you--DITCH THE STUPID PLASTIC SHEATHS!!!!

Unique, fantastic food. Sushi like you’ve never had it before - and you won’t want to go back to traditional after you’ve had this

Passive aggressive staff with imaginary wait times. Very biased in whom they notify of correct table availability.
I live local to Montclair and wont be returning. I wouldn't recommend to others unless you enjoy marginalized behavior.

My wife and I had a delightful lunch experience here. We opted for the Classic and Signature Sets, and they were absolutely amazing. The calamari we had as a side was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the dipping sauce added a delightful tangy kick. The miso soup and green iced tea were flavorful and refreshing, respectively. The sushi in the sets was meticulously crafted, showcasing fresh ingredients and well-balanced flavors. The atmosphere was inviting, and the staff provided attentive service. Nami Nori exceeded our high expectations! I’ll be thinking about this meal for a while.

Great atmosphere (calming modern minimalism) and location. The food is outstanding and love the way it is paced at the counter. Allows waves of conversation mixed with perfect 2-3 bites per Temaki. Dined with family and we were all impressed.

It was great until the server ruined it at the end. Food was great and we really enjoyed it until the server returned with my credit card and said "20% is for sat (satisfactory)". I guess everyone is just going nuts over the tip culture lately but the last time I checked, it was the customer who gives whatever the percentage they would like for a tip. Stop telling the customers what or how to tip.

Make a reservation! This place is great! The atmosphere is great and the food is even better. Great date spot, as well as a place to take a few friends. Personally I find this to be a good place to take a smaller group. Yuzu Mocktail was so good I had seconds.

Didn’t even get to sit down lol. Had a reservation for two and got there on time. They made us wait and told us they were waiting for our table to open up. They followed to sit a couple and a group of four who got there after us.
As I told the host, not to worry we were just gonna go (it was 8:30 and the place closes at 9:30) the assistant general manager just responded “okay goodnight!”. The host was more professional and apologetic than the manager. As for the food, didn’t get to try!

This was an absolute treat! Our NY friends know the Manhattan restaurant and thrilled to learn they opened in Montclair. Each menu item is a unique tasting experience, beautifully and simply presented, and tasteful. We had a variety of their offerings, each with their own unique flavors. Save room for the churro style and chocolate chip cookie twist dessert! Note- it’s very casual dining, we would enjoy going back again and trying the counter vs a table. Also, stop at Amanti Vino wine store a few steps away for an excellent selection of Sake to bring. The restaurant like most of MTC dining is BYOB.

Wanted to try this place for a long time and was finally able to this Wednesday evening. The vibe and atmosphere was amazing. Felt so comfortable and relax here. The service was very good. Our server Freddy was very helpful and informative and friendly. Told him that it was our first time there and asked for recommendations and we received some really good ones. We started off with the shishito peppers and the tuna crudo. Love the spicy level of the peppers and the tuna crudo was very refreshing. Then we did the create your own temaki as we wanted certain ones. The Ebi, XO Scallops, crab dynamite, lobster, o toro with scallions and the triple ( o toro, uni and caviar). For dessert the canoli temaki and the mochi churros. Our favorite was hands down the o toro with scallions then the triple and then the Ebi in that order. They were so fresh and has a very nice flavor. I am still thinking about them and looking forward to going back to try other items on the menu. This location is a BYOB. Have to also say that our chef James was super polite and his partner ( sorry forgot his name).

The food here is truly delicious. Although expensive, I 100% recommend it. I really like the vegetable and fish sets, accompanied with the cucumbers and potato salad. The miso soup is different, but so good!!! I recommend getting a set and a side which is around 30-40 bucks.

What a fantastic experience here at Nami Nori Montclair. As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by an extremely friendly and professional staff. The interior is so bright and clean. I definitely recommend sitting at the bar. Such a lovely time. The chef was so fun and talented. I’m all for the Temaki sets and we went for the Create Your Own option. All of the rolls are open which was new for me. I had the x.o. scallop, tuna poke, toro and scallion, spicy lobster, and spicy crab dynamite. The x.o. scallop and spicy lobster were my favorites. So so delicious! Least favorite was the spicy crab dynamite just because it kind of reminded me of a crab cake and I’m not usually a huge fan of those. Also tried their mocktails. We really enjoyed the raspberry moon and the yuzu palmer was not bad. One hundred percent recommend stopping by here if you can.
Now for my standard COVID comments as of April 2023. No one really wore masks. I felt completely comfortable in the seating and honestly everything about the restaurant was clean so I had no complaints.

I went here this weekend with some sushi loving friends. Now, I don't eat much fish at all but still enjoy sushi. This place has great veggie sushi that is disguised as real fish. They definitely mimick some textures to give an "authentic" feel to the non fish options. For apps we got the bamboo shoots which has a little spice to it, corn ribs less spicy and a little sweet, and fries with the seaweed spice. All were very good. From L-R in my photo I got the sweet potato, pineapple, coconut shrimp, eggplant, crunchy avocado. I liked the crunchy avocado the most, that crunch was just delicious. Followed by the coconut shrimp and sweet potato. The pineapple and eggplant weren't my texture preference really. The mochi churros were also great, nearly melted from the soft texture inside with a slightly tangy lemon custard sauce. Definitely a great place for sushi lovers and those interested in trying but not big fans of fish. Should also mention our friend has a nut allergy and the restaurant is nut free and takes note of any other allergies very well.

I found the portions to be very small and therefore over priced. These are two bite pieces for the price of what you’d get for an entire 8 piece roll elsewhere. Not worth it for me. Not going back

It was our first time there, but it will definitely will not be our last. Lisa, it was a pleasure meeting you and we look forward to our next visit! :)

Be still my heart. Ordered from here last night and it was divine. Everything is gluten free and I can’t remember the last time I had a churro, like I would snort that lemon curd that came with them. I have to admit that I hate them for what they’ve done to me, now I know I can’t live without them. As a wise Kat Stratford once said “ But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you, Not even close, Not even a little bit, Not even at all”

I would give 3.5 stars if the rating system allowed for half points.
$300 (with tip) dinner for 4 adults / family of 5 if one person is a toddler. The food is excellent - top notch. The space is gorgeous, it is not overly loud, the furniture feels well crafted, and we got a fantastic table seating.
The reason for the reduction in stars is because of the service. If I am spending that much money on a meal, I expect to be treated a certain way - meaning with dignity and respect.
The air of impatience was palpable and noticed by all of our party when we explained that it was our first time there and asked for guidance on the menu, and when we asked what, if anything, on the menu is cooked (and contrary to your initial answer, it turns out 3-4 things on the menu ARE actually cooked).
The sighs, the millisecond extended blank stares, and the gossipy congregating by the door and computer station are all noticed, and frankly they are distracting from the food.
Further - for a $50 tip I would expect that the service staff doesn't "oops I forgot" when my husband asks for the bill on his way to the restroom.
If your intention is to capture the crowd of folks who want NYC level food but without the commute, then the professionalism of service needs to match NYC expectations as well.

Attention foodies and culinary connoisseurs! Get ready to embark on a taste bud adventure, because the newest addition to the Montclair dining scene is taking the city by storm. The amazing staff and impeccable service will make you feel like royalty, and the signature temaki sets are a must-try for anyone looking to satisfy their cravings. With five delectable bites in each set, it'll take you at least a week to try everything on the menu. And trust us, it's worth every bite.
The minimalist chic decor and well-lit ambiance make this the perfect spot for a date night with your significant other or a night out with a group of six. And the best part? It's BYOB, so you can bring your favorite drink to accompany your meal.
Feast your eyes on the uni Big Mac, the calamari, and the octopus salad – a trifecta of decadence that will leave you begging for more. And make sure to save room for dessert – your taste buds will thank you. So, add this gem to your bucket list and treat yourself to an unforgettable dining experience

I think a typical sushi place, I would rate higher.
Given the name and prices. It's not where it needs to be.
Watching them spoon the blended turo from a plastic container was a little unsettling. I did expect better parts of the fish and actual slices. There's nothing wrong with the method but the menu should clarify.
I found the seaweed wraps to overpower most rolls.
We had a 9pm reservation and were rushed by the server.

My temaki dream team: coconut shrimp, everything smoked salmon, avocado toast, aka ebi, and maitake truffle. These are the ones that truly stand out as they really pack such fantastic experiences whether in their layers of flavor or minimalism. However, their items from the kitchen hold up on their own, and I could very much make a meal out of them. Of particular note: the corn ribs, bamboo shoots, clam soup, and tuna crudo. Notes on service: get seats at the bar if you can as the interactions with the chefs and pacing of a temaki at a time are a big plus. Also, staff is very attentive!

This restaurant is hands down one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to in America. The design of the restaurant is super open and light filled, with ample bar and table seating. I am a mobility aid user, and everyone was incredibly helpful with doors and helping me set my crutches to the side. I have faced judgement for being disabled before, but I felt totally welcome at this establishment. Though the restaurant was full and there was a decent amount of chatter and music, it was not unpleasantly loud and conversation was not overly difficult. The drink menu boasts a few non-alcoholic cocktails, and as I don’t drink, this was a most welcome surprise. I also have a large slew of dietary restrictions, which often makes me reluctant to go out and eat, but the staff was beyond accommodating. The whole menu is already gluten free, and on top of that, the moment I mentioned my other restrictions, the staff made sure to tell me what my options were and checked every step of the way to make sure I didn’t eat anything I shouldn’t. It was a truly special experience as someone who typically struggles with my restrictions. Besides all of the phenomenal accommodations, the food was just incredible. Flavorful fish, imaginative umami filled creations and warm perfectly seasoned rice. The restaurant recommends you order your Temaki in sets of 5, and it is truly the perfect amount of food. We finished off with the mochurros, which were advertised to us as the best churros in Montclair, and I have to completely agree. They were warm, doughy, perfectly sweet, and the lemon curd on the side was a perfect touch. This restaurant is a true gem, especially for sushi lovers with dietary restrictions. We will ABSOLUTELY be returning.

I went to Nami Nori last night and it was excellent. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Antonio, the general manager, who was very friendly and personable. He checked on us throughout the meal and made great recommendations. We sat at the bar and had temaki chef Drew, it was so cool to watch him create each piece of temaki. For apps for had the crispy calamari, spicy tuna dip, and wasabi cucumber tataki. I’d recommend them all, it was such a great way to start the meal. I opted to create my own temaki set (spicy crab dynamite, tuna poke, coconut shrimp, avocado toast, and yellowtail and scallion) each piece was phenomenal. My favorite was probably the tuna poke but honestly the flavor profile of each one was so unique and well balanced it’s hard to pick a favorite. The mochurros with lemon curd was the perfect end to an amazing meal. We’ll definitely be back very soon!

Amazing experience!!! With a modest exquisite limited menu, and just the right amount of mouthwatering appetizers to select from. The Temaki is to die for!!! I highly recommend it to everyone wanting a pleasant night out while experiencing a refreshing atmosphere. All the Temaki are delicious, my favorite yellow tail scallion, spicy lobster, also the coconut shrimp, and a must try the honey butter corn ribs.

I reserved two seats at 5:30 pm for my birthday dinner, which was noted in my reservation confirmation. I get there, and I believe one of the managers stated that I was actually reserved for 5:00 pm. I showed her my reservation confirmation email that stated 5:30 pm. Instead of apologizing for the confusion, she kept saying “that’s weird”. We get seated and our server was great. The food, however, was just okay and not worth the price. The assortment of fish we ate was not fresh, especially the uni. I took a bite of the uni and couldnt finish it, so I gave the other half to my fiance, who also agreed. We have tried both Hokkaido and Santa Barbara uni all around the world, and this Santa Barbara uni was not it. I was actually afraid that I would get sick, but thankfully, nothing happened. That said, it was a bit strange that when one of the managers came to ask how our dinner was, he only asked how the uni was. I told him that unfortunately, it was not fresh. He said, oh okay Ill take care of it, thinking he may comp us for that one order, but instead, he just said he would let the chef know as he watched us awkwardly pay and tip on the machine. During our meal, one of the other managers came around to wish me happy birthday explaining that he reads all the comments that go along with the reservations. Usually, at other restaurants, we receive a complimentary dessert for special occasions, but they just wished me happy birthday and sent us on our way. This aspect of our meal is certainly not a big deal but it just left us thinking why even have the option to add special occasions or read any of the comments accompanying the reservation? All in all, my birthday dinner was extremely disappointing, and we will certainly not be coming back to this location due to the service and value for money.

Ambiance is too bright. Chairs are not comfortable. Walked in at 5pm. Our party of 3 was on the sidewalk 45 minutes later $180 lighter. And still hungry. I love temaki. and if Nami Nori's had been exceptional, I wouldn't mind the $45 the five pieces my husband picked out cost. But a 2 and half inch piece of rice and sea weed paper with a minimal amount of fish - so little that you can barely discern it in the roll - didn't suffice. I like wasabi. But there was such a heavy hand with my five portions that I couldn't taste anything else. And it is ridiculous that temaki at this price point should be presented wrapped in plastic. I've had plastic wrapped temaki before...from a refrigerated case that I ate on the sidewalk. I really wanted to like this restaurant and was looking forward to the experience. Maybe I suffered from expectations too high from the (suspiciously) lavish praise I read online. But I walked home disappointed.

Do you know what rhymes with 'Nami Nori?'
Godly story.
Now here's a little story I've got to tell...
One, two, three and to the four
The Phaced God and J-100 was at the door
Ready to make an entrance, so back on up
Cause you know we're 'bout to eat it up...
Walked in - the warmest of welcomes - greeted with a smile
The entire ambience was divine - the place was beamin' wit' a style
Seated at the bar - met the chefs and then the menu was viewed
So many incredible items off the menu to choose
Started off with a cocktail - chose the Raspberry Moon
Lychee Juice and Raspberry Purée had me singin' a merry tune
Then came the Honey Butter Corn Ribs with Aonori and Lime
A Montclair Exclusive Special - flavors in all its glory defined
From The Kitchen - Shishito Peppers with Smoked Honey Miso
The staff - lovely people - how can something be so 'beast mode'
From The Temaki Counter - open-style sushi hand rolls
Visually tempting bites - every single Temaki had soul
Sweet Potato Tempura to the Crispy Tofu Chimichurri
So many different textures and flavor notes hit me in a flurry
The Signature Kanpachi Pineapple - how can my palate be so stunned?
It ended with the Cucumber Black Sesame with Shiso and Plum
For dessert - Temaki Cannoli and Mochurros with Lemon Curd
Make no mistake about it - this was a piece of heaven served
Let's recap the experience - delicious creations were unstoppable
I came to the realization that nothing was impossible
Techniques, preparation, presentation - all methodical
What I'm trying to say is that Nami Nori was phenomenal

Anticipated this grand opening for months and the wait was worthwhile. It was my first temaki-specialized experience and now I’m wondering how I missed this my entire sushi-loving life!
Each piece had well balanced flavors and extremely high quality ingredients. Some highlights were the shishito peppers with the smoked honey miso (was tempted to dip everything in this sauce and ask for extra to sneak home), the xo scallop temaki, the cucumber black sesame temaki (which was a non-fish temaki but had shockingly amazing flavor and consistency that didn’t make you miss the fish) and finally the Montclair exclusive temaki cannoli (a genius take on the cannoli with a chocolate like outter shell which reminded me of a luxurious version of the now discontinued choco taco!)
The entire Nami Nori team was beyond friendly and accommodating with impeccable service!
So glad to have this spot so close to my work place. I have a feeling I’ll be coming here way too often!

Amazing experience! My husband and I both enjoyed our dinner here. Note that the entrance they want you to use is the one that faces toward the Wellmont Theater. We had reservations at the counter and we were greeted and seated promptly by friendly staff. The space was bright and open. The Temaki chef did an excellent job preparing our food. The corn rib appetizer had such a unique and zesty flavor that we really enjoyed. I ordered the Vegan Temaki and my husband created his own set. Wow! I absolutely loved the variety of temaki and blend of flavors. The mochi churros for dessert were such an added yummy bonus. I definitely recommend this Nami Nori location and can't wait to come back for more!

Went on their opening night and, as expected, we had a lovely experience! Loved sitting at the bar having the temaki served directly from the chefs. Drinks were delightful: highly rec the yuzu palmer. Kinda reminds me of calamansi! Make sure to order the top neck clams from the kitchen (now wished i orderered two of those) and the bamboo shoots. Temaki was so yummy, every bite of each piece was enjoyable. Especially enjoyed the coconut shrimp, tofu with chimichurri and spicy lobster. Will be back again and again! 👍🏼👍🏼
