I recently had the pleasure of dining at this incredible omakase restaurant, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was serene and inviting, setting the perfect tone for the evening. The chef's mastery was evident in every meticulously crafted dish, each one a delightful surprise that showcased the freshest ingredients and exquisite flavors. The attention to detail and the personalized service made us feel truly special. Every bite was a culinary journey, and I can't recommend this place highly enough. Five stars all the way!

First of all, thanks to Chef Jonathan who gave us unforgettable experience with amazing sushi!
Every piece of course was kind of art piece and flavorful. Especially freshness of fish was excellent and the portion was pretty satisfying. Chef Jonathan kindly explained each course with great knowledge. Look forward to revisiting next winter :)

Definitely one of the best sushi omakase in NJ. To be honest, it was a better experience than some of sushi omakase experience I had in NYC. It was better than Sushi Nakazawa
The staff is very knowledgeable. There was an intimacy with the food preparation. Everything was well prepared and everything was done Right.
Sauces for various sushi were done by hand and was the definitely the highlight of the dishes.

We had an awesome time celebrating my husband's birthday at Sushi Kai. Our 5:30 reservation meant we had the chef and staff all to ourselves, which made it even more special. Chef Ryan and Brian were fantastic and made the experience even better. The fresh fish, flown in from Japan and New Zealand, was beautifully plated and packed with flavor. It’s hard to pick a favorite dish because everything was so delicious! My personal favorites were the sea bream, toro caviar with gold leaves, bluefin belly, black cod, and the miso soup made with fish bone broth. It was a perfect Omakase experience for our special night.

Wow! They really know how to create a great experience. I have a few places I typically go to celebrate a birthday or special occasion, but this experience blew them away.
First, I got stuck in ridiculous bridge traffic on my way in. Over 20 minutes stopped dead on the exit ramp off Rt.4, I was stressed and concerned because I was about 10 minutes late for my reservation. Luckily, they were so nice and accommodating that I quickly forgot my stress and was able to enjoy my amazing meal.
There was plenty of parking in the nearby municipal lot, but you can also luck out and get some street parking closer by. Either way, as long as you don't mind walking a couple blocks, you should be fine.
The service was so friendly, but also discreet. They kept our glasses full (it's a BYOB) and everything neat and clean without being overbearing. It felt like a premium experience without being stuffy.
My twin sister and I went for our birthday with a few family members, and they really made us feel special (without being awkward). All of the dishes were amazing, but they had a few special touches for my sister and I - some gold flakes on a few of the piece, a little extra uni (amazing), and a special scallop dish at the end that was absolutely amazing. I have learned not to expect much when you put a special occasion on a reservation because most places barely acknowledge it, but they did a great job of acknowledging it, while keeping it very classy.
Most importantly, the food was all fantastic. Each piece was cut with care, and the sushi chef did a great job of explaining everything.
The King Salmon (from New Zealand) with truffle was one of my favorite dishes I've ever had anywhere. It was so good.
The pacing was great, you had enough time to enjoy everything without feeling rushed, but you also never felt like you were waiting long.
Overall, a great omakase experience that I would recommend to anyone. We went at 5 p.m. and were a party of five, and there was just one other pair there. Not sure how much more full it is later in the evening or on a Saturday, but it's not a big place so I don't think it could be that much busier. The service was very professional, so I'm sure it would still be great if every seat was full

Front of house was not welcoming but cold. Luckily Jonathan the sushi chef and Brian? (glasses with hair bun) attending to the sushi counter, were exemplary! Counter area is in a tight and narrow area but still gave an airy feel. Clean counter with nice glass and dishware. Appetizers and sushi presentation were nice. Quality of fish and subtle sauces with varying tiny flavor toppings enhanced the sushi vs mask. No extra soy sauce needed. The varying and numerous one bite tasting pieces were spot on. Don't expect huge sashimi slices with mounds of rice to soak with soy sauce. This is not that kind of place. The finale of flavorful miso soup and the tiny dessert of black sesame creme brule was a perfect ending to a very generous experience. For the quality and quantity of the dishes, $155 omakase is a deal, though not for frequent visits. BYOB can help the wallet and they attend to it as if they were selling it.

Decided to take the leap and try a multi course omakase night after dabbling with sushi hand rolls here and there. I can’t stress how welcoming and amazing the experience was for someone very unfamiliar with sashimi and sushi overall. The chef explained what we were eating per course and the presentation was nothing short of extravagant. Being that it’s seasonal, I can definitely see myself revisiting late summer or early fall. I believe it was 19 courses or so, including desert. My girlfriend and I were more than satiated. 10/10

I'm a sushi lover and have been to many top sushi restaurants in NY and NJ. My chef was great, but it was way overpriced, and the food wasn’t that impressive at all. Personally, I think you get better value for your money by going to other sushi places, like Bada Story.

I don't understand this place... You're already paying more for quality & the Sushi is pretty good... but why skimp so much on the cut of fish/rice!?!? size of sushi is small & not the accurate size like you'd have in Japan... every piece I was served felt more like a tease & left me feeling underwhelmed.. The flavors are good but would it really kill them to make it the accurate size!?

I had such a phenomenal night. Gary the owner who I had no idea was the owner (found out after ) was soooo kind that he offered me a glass of wine and even though I said no he insisted and grabbed me a glass from his own and offered it to me. That kind of hospitality isn’t seen in America too often now a days. The food to say the least was amazing!!

Good food, great service, not a traditional omakase experience but a fun time
Made reservations for a friday night with a friend. Byob - there is a local shop that delivers so i thought that was really cool and convenient. One of the hosts recommended a sake to go with our meal. Also got a Sapporo.
Everything was not super formal and it felt like we were at a hip bar.
Chefs are not Japanese if you care about that.
Immediately noticed that it wasnt a true omaske style where each dish is prepared right in front of you but there was some batch preparation- there were two chefs and there were 10 guests.
My partner also had some allergies which they were attentive too
This was fine. Each dish was excellent with some unique flavors mixes. Temperatures were right - rice could have been a tad but tighter. Everything was excellent with the exception of the sea bream dish which tasted very average. Dessert was also nothing special just a black sesame cream brûlée - top could have been thicker.
Service was great hosts were very attentive and kept everything clean. Chefs were friendly talkative and its a great place to meet people - shared some sake rounds with our neighbors.
Recommended for a special occasion but i believe there are other places with better food for the price.

I really love the clean, simple aesthetics of this place. It really focuses on the star of the show - the experience.
There are varying courses, ranging from nigiri, small bites, to fun & innovative pieces.
Everything is extremely fresh and prepared right in front of you. The chefs are engaging and lovely to talk to. It’s a really nice experience to taste a multiple course meal with fresh ingredients and intricate flavors.
I don’t think it’s super expensive, you definitely get plenty of courses, but the pieces could be bigger. At $150+, I do appreciate the range of courses that are offered; to my knowledge, the experience is refreshed often.
FYI - it’s BYOB!

Thank you so much to everyone there, we appreciate all of your hard work!! It shows

I’ve now been to Sushi Kai 4 times since it first opened but regret to say that I probably won’t go back again after this recent visit. Over the years there were several changes made to the menu selections, pricing, and sushi chefs to the point I think that now it’s not worth the $155/person price anymore.
When the place first opened the menu was modern and innovative. While I personally prefers the more traditional styled omakase, my wife enjoyed the modern twist so we thought it was a good experience overall.
However, over the past ~3 years this place has become more expensive, which is understandable given inflation, but also less innovative/unique. This last visit was especially disappointing as the nigiris didn’t taste/look fresh, appetizer/dessert selections were underwhelming, and the restaurant just generally looks like it’s trying to cut cost to boost profit (evident through both the number of chefs and the fish selections).
I feel like this place has become one of those cookie cutter omakase places in the city that charges $90 for 12 pieces, which is not a bad deal. But for $155 in Fort Lee, this level of offering simply doesn’t cut it for me.

All it and all it was good not great, and definitely not worth 155$ per person, for 155$ they needed to make this an 18 to 20 corse meal with with option of wine or saki heck Japanese beer or soda selection as part of the reservation. Bring it down to 120$ unless you are going to add more to the menu. Also that restroom needs a lock and somone to clean it. On the hour an a half I was there ya made 1800$ at least buy a lock for the rest room. Also put yellow tape on that step heading out, that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Booked under Nikki Nguyen, january 2, should be contacted to fix this.. Invite for another try or partial refund or something.. Overpriced..! The starting ones are great but the few pieces of fish sushis towards the end are small and average.. Definitely felt ripped off.. Sigh.. Jersey.. Your prices arent right.. My lovely wife's hard earned money to treat me to my birthday.. Smh.. 155$ each? A brutally bad deal.. Look at these pieces of fish sushis and tell me if its worth that insane price..

I love Sushi Kai! The restaurant is very simple and elegant. Minimalistic because the focus is on the food. It was a 19 course omakase tasting menu. It was very fascinating to hear where each course came from. The chefs and the owners were very knowledgeable about each dish. This made it more about eating delicious food but like a whole new experience. I left very full and satisfied! I definitely recommend it if you like sushi and trying new things. This was a 10/10!!

I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. We had my brother's birthday dinner here and it was such an intimate space, great ambiance, incredible service, and everything felt really warm, welcoming, friendly, and personal.
Regarding food, it was incredible (I don't say that lightly, as I eat at a lot of omakase places). I've been to Sushi Nakazawa, Aoki, and others, all incredible, and Sushi Kai is my favorite so far. It takes traditional omakase with a twist that's fun and exciting, and the quality of food was so great. The price, in my opinion, was worth it and I would definitely recommend to everyone. Looking forward to go back again!

Best omakase I've had in my life... And that includes some heavy hitters. I've been twice. First time was excellent. Second time was life changing. It was like an orchestra of sushi that built up to a crescendo about a third of the way through and then stayed there. When you think "man that's a bit pricey for just food" banish the thought, and just do it. You won't regret it. True artists behind this experience.

It wasn't pleasing how they reached for my empty plate from behind (everytime) it stop my conversation with friends and it was not money worth experience. They need to rethink table layout.

So impressive gourmets love it, as we did. The best is the well organized order of sushi and detailed comments by chef. It’s different experience to know those which come from, like that the more we know, the more enjoyable. The good is that every turn seemed so different table and different feeling. One thing to be needed is an attraction: at the first stage, I feel so good. But the second stage seems so so, just like a little bit different mode of the the first. It needs attractions for customers to come back again. At least something different in mode and taste at the few final stage should be added. But holistically it was so good. The Japanese Chief Chef was the best.

Unfortunately, due to heavy traffic, we were late and turned away at the door even though they were only 3 courses in. We were disappointed but willing to understand BUT…
When we made our reservation, the agreement on the cancellation fee/ no show fee was $100 per head (there were 2 in our party) which was what we were expecting. When I checked my bank, this establishment charged us double the amount. When we called, the manager was really rude and told us that it was Open Table’s website’s fault and not theirs for the wrong cancellation fee being written. This sounds kind of ridiculous since the only platform they use to book reservations through their website and google is Open Table.
Come early, don’t risk traffic AT ALL or risk being charged an atrocious amount of money. Plus, they take zero accountability.

Unfortunately didn't even come close to the hype. From start to finish a sub par experience in terms of service, ambiance and quality of the food, especially when considering the price. We walked into an empty restaurant about 4 minutes before our scheduled seating time only to be rudely shooed back outside into a cold and rainy evening by the overzealous hostess. We ran back to our car to wait out the required 4 minutes before trudging back across the rainy parking lot to finally be allowed in. Very bizarre. While the space is clean and the decor modern, the lighting is overly bright to the point of being harsh and contributes to an overall lack character and intimacy. The hostess/waitress was hurried, anxious and jittery, at one point dropping and breaking a glass as she unnecessarily hurried to put something in the kitchen. Her mannerism and interactions with guest were abrupt and very much not the typical demure accommodative competence one sees in most high end sushi establishments. Finally the sushi itself was good but nothing exceptional. For the price there are better alternatives, not sure how this place is so highly rated.

Sushi Kai was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal! We did the later Omakase - there were two separate seating times. I really liked that it was just us in the restaurant and no one else was coming in/leaving the restaurant. It felt intimate and personal - no distractions. It was a true experience! The quality of the fish was superior! I recommend visiting and experiencing their Omakase.

Definitely not worth $155 pre tax/tip. Portion is way off - its too small. Sushi rice was bland and watery/sticky. Their selection of fish was good but the taste just wasn’t there. Save your money and just go to omakase in nyc.

Very Disappointing! The rice was bad and the sushi was too small —like half of the normal size. Maybe a bad day? Yes, for my money! Not worth close to 200 a person including the tip and tax. Fool me once! The staff was nice though.

I normally do not write reviews. However want to help others. From this over priced atrocious experience, on a random local omakase experience. Simply put, just cross the bridge into NYC. I promise better quality omakase lives out there. I'll point out all the fails;
- Sushi rice soggy (ultimate no).
- First few sashimi dishes were "pre-prepared" which made the pieces bit dried up.
- C grade Sushi chefs. Knife skills of which a Wholefoods sushi corner Shushi cook. Grabs rice so hard that they turn into rice cake texture. Sushi chef drop the rice!! (I have never seen that before. Atlease not at places that charge over $400 for 2). I am not a chef but anyone that has dining experience can spot one when they see one.
The only thing i enjoyed in that evening was the bottle of sparking water. I am really not exaggerating.
Save your money, save your time! I felt like I got robbed. Couldn't think of one memorable piece nor dish. This place is a total fail.

I always had omakase style course in NYC but this was my first NJ experience. I had this young Korean Chef serving me and my wife. Surprisingly, he didn't even greet us as we were seating but when the courses started, he just murmured through explanation of what he was giving us. Honestly, I could not hear a thing but maybe he is in bad mood I don't know. We didn't bother asking what he was saying exactly. As we are finishing 3rd or 4th Sushi, we noticed the rice was warm and sticky. I'm a huge sushi lover and I know Sushi Kai intends to make it a high class Omakase restaurant, but this was nowhere near decent Omakase experience. What a waste of money

One of the best dinner experiences we’ve ever had! We’ve traveled all over the world and have eaten at some amazing Michelin restaurants and this is absolutely one of the best restaurants we’ve been to. The fish was unbelievably fresh (flown in from Japan earlier that day), the service was impeccable, and the ambiance was welcoming and calming (loved the simple, clean aesthetic). Each course was delicious and served at the perfect pace. What really separates this place from other places is the incredible attention to detail - without saying a word, Chef Johnny noticed that my husband was left handed and he put his ginger on the left side of the plate to make my husband’s experience just a little bit more seamless (I noticed this and asked him about it when I saw everyone else’s ginger was on the right side of their plates). We love that it’s BYOB too! Cannot wait to go back! Sushi Kai should be on the map for a future Michelin star - excellent!!

The food was so good. The best thing is sitting down and just getting to eat. No stress. The vibe is cozy and they played lofi the whole time and it was a great experience. Highly recommend. Parking is also easily accessible.

More to come including photos. Sushi, sashimi and more that looks as beautiful as it tastes.
If you live in Manhattan and are not coming to Fort Lee for your omakase, you are truly missing some of the most extraordinary fish in the metro area.
To be continued !

Great ambience and an amazing experience for sushi lovers. Flavors and textures I’ve never experienced before! Surprisingly filling as well.

Omakase for $155 includes 16 courses at New Jersey’s top sushi restaurant. This was an exceptional lineup from beginning to end, with a veteran crew and really beautiful space. Chef Sung is a master with his knife skills and fish sourcing, we’re looking forward to the next visit already. Needless to say, highly recommend

My husband secretly made reservations for us here. I always wanted to try omakase and he heard from a co-worker about this fantastic place in Fort Lee. It was our first omakase experience and everything was outstanding. We brought our own sake and the sushi was so tasty. We thought we wouldn't be full but we were pretty satisfied at the end. Service was excellent. It's definitely worth the price!

Phenomenal omakase experience❤️🔥
This place is on par with other omakase restaurants in the city. You will not regret coming here for a meal.
Amazing service and fresh quality fish.

My husband and I have dined at Sushi Kai twice now and can’t wait to go back. Omakase at both times were as amazing as advertised. Both staffs and chefs are friendly and always make sure that the diners’ need is met. We can’t wait to return with friends.

I don't know where to start off. This was my first time going to Sushi Kai and I loved it! The whole experience made me feel so relaxed and welcoming. The staff are amazing. Very attentive and friendly! The restaurant is very beautiful, the ambience was very soothing. During the whole experience, I couldn't help but to stare at our chef preparing our food. The attention to detail and everything was so mesmerizing! I'm definitely recommending Sushi Kai to people i know!
PS; BYOB!!

Great Sushi - high quality fish
Omakase Style (chef's choice) 2nd time i've been there. they seasonally change the menu, but it's worth going for the same menu multiple times. seems a little pricey, but it's good quality fish, variety of many dishes, BYOB so you save on the drinks and this time they included some seared wagyu beef. in addition to searing with a torch, they also brought out hot wood charcoal to sear some of the dishes. adds a hint of smokiness.
every dish is prepared properly and with the utmost care. will definitely go again.

Best sushi counter Omakase Experience! Super fresh and delicious.
Staff were well trained and friendly. Accommodated my shellfish and sesame Allergies without any problems. Had a great night. BYOB 🥂
Looking forward to dining here again!

This is not your usual sushi experience. It is high end, exquisitely designed and expertly served sushi. Price is high for a meal but worth the omikase experience. Lovely evening!

My boyfriend and I reserved a spot for 2 on Christmas Eve. The morning of, I started to feel a little sick and took a rapid test to find out that the results came back positive.
My boyfriend called several times at 5pm because that was when the restaurant would open. After failing to pick up his call, I decided to call too. I spoke with a man over the phone and told him the unfortunate situation we were under and apologized. I kindly asked if we could push the reservation to a future date only to be told rudely over the phone that we will be charged $75 per person. He also said he never received a phone call, but we have the call history log saved on our phone.
I even asked if we could pre pay for the day's meal so that their restaurant is not short of the day's sale. Instead, the man on the phone said we had 24 hours to call in advance, which does not make sense for us since I tested positive that morning. I understand that the food is being "prepared ahead of time," However, with Omicron-Covid cases going up, I wonder if people with mild symptoms will show up to this restaurant sick because of the unreasonable charge during these pressing times.
That being said, with the dangerous rise of Omicrom-Covid cases, we really wanted to support local restaurants but if this establishment cannot support the well-being of their customers, I do not feel easy recommending this place to any of my friends and family, which is why I am leaving this sad review. This is the first time I have ever left a negative review for any business.
I understand that there is a policy but they had no understanding of the situation we were under and being told that this was our fault makes me question their priority to make money over the well-being of their customers.
I was very excited to try their Omakase but will now put my excitement towards a friendlier and more accommodating restaurant business.

We were excited to try this place but our experience was not nice at all!
We went there for dinner a few days ago and were late about 10 minutes because of the heavy traffic in the tunnel. When we arrived, there were three small bite-size appetizers awaiting us at the counter. We felt very sorry and finished them very quickly to catch up with the pace. After we were done with the appetizers and the sushi chef started to move on making sushi for us, I noticed other customers were still enjoying a big plate of sashimi and oysters which were not provided to us. I thought maybe they just ordered something for extra. Then we were finished the sushi part for the meal, the chef asked us if we would like to order more sushi for extra cost. We did order some additional sushi since we still had some room.
After the meal, I could not help asking the server about the sashimi and oysters we saw at other tables. Then the server confessed that those dishes were included in the 14 courses but because we were late and they thought we would not have the time to finish them. We ended up with being asked to pay a check for the full price of the 14 courses.
To be honest, my party was pretty speechless when hearing this answer. We have been to many authentic Japanese Omakase restaurants such as Sushi Onodera Ginza, Sushi Noz and etc,. None of the restaurants treat the customers like thinking you don't deserve having your food if you are being late. Once we had dinner at Sushi Amane and the other party was late about 40 mins, the chef made all the dishes, reserved them on the side, and then served all the food when they arrived. But people at this place seems they don't care at all. They save the time for you to order additional sushi so they can make extra money rather than serve the food which is included in the meal.
We would not recommend this place to our friends. If you see this post and still plan to pay a visit, DON'T BE LATE or you will be deprived of your food as a punishment! Good luck!

I’ve been to Sushi Kai twice in the last month and both experiences have been absolutely out of this world. Each serving is prepared as a work of art and with the utmost quality is truly divine and couldn’t be more fresh. Beyond each dish comes exceptional customer service with great leadership from management but most important is the experience customers receive from each chef that brings a friendly, customer-centric mentality throughout the end to end meal. It’s been both a pleasure to dine here and an honor to be served by this team of chefs.
Thank you, Sushi Kai! See y’all soon!

I don't think there's a better Omakase experience in the area, and for the price - in the City either. Excellent sushi, great service, friendly staff, beautiful and clean decor - we had a wonderful experience and can't wait to go back.
P.S. - the 1-star review by Khloe does not rate the dining experience, only that she had difficulty cancelling her reservation. Really?! How are you going to ruin a perfect 5-star rating with that, and not update your review after the issue was resolved?

Sushi is amazing
Fish quality is amazing
And i eat a lot for a female and im full by the end !!!
Definitely highly recommend this place !!
Ends up being $160 pp with tax and tip
One thing I wish they were better about was treating repeat customers with a little more appreciation.
I’ve brought so many new customers here and have also come back so many times and things I appreciate and respect about a restaurant is when you get to know the owners and chefs and workers and having that relationship and they hook you up with some items here and there. But that has never happened here which is a little disappointing in my opinion…
Even in NYC I go to so many places, and my repeat places they always hook it up. With a drink with an extra appetizer or something .. doesn’t have to be huge but it’s such a nice warming gesture — just a wonderful way to run a restaurant !!

I took my boyfriend out here last night for his birthday and it was both of our first time doing Omakase style. This was definitely an exceptional and one of a kind experience. From the service, to the actual fish everything was done at the highest level. All of the little details that went into every fish was clearly thought out and tasted phenomenal. The sushi chefs took their time to explain what every fish was, where it came from, and what details were added to it. We absolutely loved everything about this place and cannot wait to come back soon! We are already planning our return! Thank you for an amazing experience!

The atmosphere is great in NJ for Omakase. It's a little disappointing for the Suishi taste. My expectation was very high due to the reviews... The fish is fresh, but they failed to set high standard for a Omakase. Over sauced Sushi failed to taste as good Sushi... didn't have enough flavors of the fish which was killed by wrong combinations of sauce flavors... only about 4 out 13 courses tasted great which rest of them was not good enough except that came from overseas. Fancy imitation, but failed to understand the real Sushi flavors.

Quite sastisfacotry as sushi one can have in NJ, which is considered not-a-place-to-have-best-sushi. Pricy though and I may prefer to go to top sushi places in NY with that price range. Not a bad choice for sushi lover living in NJ in current environment.

Wow. Excellent omakase and service. Took my dad for an early father’s day dinner and my whole family enjoyed every single piece presented to us. Everything was so fresh and savory, and well worth the price tag. We ordered an extra piece of mackerel on top of the omakase and it did not disappoint. A great addition to Fort Lee!!

I have always been a fan of sushi, everything from your local hole-in-the-wall no name place all the way to Nobu and Matsuhisa.
Sushi Kai is above Nobu level.
Sushi Kai is EASILY the best tasting, freshest and most well prepared sushi I have EVER had. the restaurant is quiet, and very intimate and personal, each party being paired with their own personal chef for the evening, there are 14-ish rounds of increasingly tender and delicious sushi followed by ala-carte selection (YOU MUST GET THE KOBE BEEF) and then a brulè'd tamago, and the most delicious dessert, baby peach with gold leaf.
The owner and chefs are incredibly knowledgable and passionate about the food, and it really shows. thank you so much for a fantastic and memorable dinner
JUST REMEMBER ITS BYOD

My boyfriend and I went here on our date night and it was fantastic. The service is amazing. We sat at the bar and watched the chefs work. We had a personal sushi chef, who made the pieces in front of us and explained each one to us. The combinations of flavors - fish with roe, caviar, lemon or lime zest- were mind blowing. I've had great fish before, but I loved how creative this was. It was so tastefully done. Our cups were never empty. Sushi Kai has a great atmosphere and the positive, happy personality of our chef made the experience ever more worthwhile. I was so impressed with the service and food here. My boyfriend earned major brownie points today.

This was not only the best sushi I've had but also the best restaurant experience I've had. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have a good experience. The chef's were all friendly and passionate about their craft. They genuinely seem to enjoy what they are doing. The food itself was phenomenal. The ingredients seemed carefully put together and their effort shows. If you enjoy sushi, do yourself a favor make a reservation ASAP. This seems like a place that will be very busy soon.

Amazing experience. Booked far in advance and I was not disappointed. After every course I kept saying “wow that was so good!”. Had the pleasure of sitting with the executive chef and he was so skilled. After we finished our meal, we said what the heck and ordered the wagyu with uni a la carte and it was delicious. The two gentlemen front of house (owners?) were very friendly and accommodating as well. I will definitely be back. Also, it’s BYOB so I would recommend bringing something to pair your meal with :)

If you’re looking for more of an experience and a journey through an ancient Japanese method of delivering deliciously cured and prepared fish, then Sushi Kai is the spot to go. The fish was absolutely delicious, from the few appetizers that we ordered to the omakase. We were served by the head chef, whom you can tell automatically knows his stuff. He would join the convo as we would speak to him, he’d guide his apprentice and prep the fish so swiftly and elegantly. There was a lot of attention to detail and we loved every part of it. Will def return soon .

For years, I have been traveling from New Jersey to New York for good quality fish and an excellent Omakase experience. Sushi Kai finally came and delivered! The authenticity of a true Omakase experience. The fish quality is truly insane! I ended up coming back twice in 2 weeks because I was amazed and had to show my family this new spot. The perfect date night spot if you’re looking for something special or just your everyday going out to eat spot. It does not disappoint! The ambiance is so trendy and fun, the sushi chefs interact with you and are fun to joke around with. Definitely give this place a try if you’re looking for excellent omakase! Excellent service, excellent food.

They have a pretty strict cancellation policy ($75 charge) BUT it's impossible to ever get anyone on the phone to attempt to reschedule and their reservation system doesn't allow changes online.
It's a shame, I've heard amazing things about them.
UPDATE: The news that cancellations can be made via email (no email address provided) comes a bit late as my reservations are for this evening. It's a mistake that won't be made again.
Update: I spoke with the owner and we came to an understanding. I'm eating there next week. I'll be updating my review to reflect that experience.

Authentic Omakase experience in a beautiful restaurant! We ordered takeout a few weeks ago and couldn’t believe how beautifully presented and tasteful the Barachirashi and the Kai sashimi/ nigiri set was. We ended up making a reservation to dine-in and it was out of this world. The chef was so kind, delicate, and thorough with each piece of fish. Not only was it delicious but it was also amazing to watch the prepare each course.

Fine but nothing to write home about - omakase places usually give you a piece of nigiri as a “service” after the entire course but you need to order a la carte here. I’d only get takeout from this place, don’t think the dining experience for the extra money is worth it.

I was hesitant to leave the glowing review they deserve because I know it's going to become impossible to get reservations here in the future but I'm doing it anyway because it was really good and I'm so happy that New jersey, fort Lee of all places, now has legit sushi.

Sushi kai in fort lee is authentic, delicious, and always taken aback by the incredible pairings of flavor. I’ve returned on a number of occasions thus far, and each time I am met with novelty and creativity. The Omakase in my opinion is the way to go because the chef creates pieces that are bring out specific flavors based on the fish. My faviorite was the toro, and I was blown away by the creamy and sweet taste of the Uni.
If you like rolls I highly suggest the spicy scallop roll. Actually the best I’ve ever had!

Sushi Kai is the BEST sushi place in north Jersey, hands down! It is absolutely amazing. From presentation to quality. We have taken out several times since they opened and they never disappoint. We get chef special omakase (Kai omakase), which is phenomenal. Not only is the fish fresh and melts in your mouth, the presentation is phenomenal. Each piece in omakase is uniquely paired with its own topping and sauce, that makes you want to scream for more. We always get additional rolls, like negi hama, negi toro, spicy tuna, spicy scallop, and maguro futomaki AND even though they’re just “plain” rolls, the fish in the rolls is just as high quality as the omakase. Home made ikura- yum! And homemade salad dressing- addicting!! Also, worth mentioning, the take out containers, very impressive and makes your take out experience that much more enjoyable. Incredible! Sushi Kai is definitely a must try! I’ve eaten in most all high end sushi restaurants in NYC, trust me, this place is right up there. So for us, north Jersey folks, no need to cross the bridge, for sure!

Authentic Omakase experience at a gorgeous venue with excellent sushi and service. All of the pieces in our Omakase selection were very diverse and delicious. I personally loved all of the tuna pieces (akami, toro, skipjack, amberjack). Each piece was carefully topped with pickled plum, lemon/lime zest, truffle, ginger, caviar and more. The rice was also really good. You also can't beat the price at $120 pp and BYOB. Their takeout menu also looks great with reasonable prices starting at $40 for omakase. Highly recommend!

Wow. This place is absolutely incredible. Have been there multiple times and I think it's getting better every single time. Definitely competes with any high end omakase spot in Manhattan and is better than most in my opinion. The omakase is phenomenal. Every single piece is uniquely delicious and suuuuuper fresh. I also sat at the regular tables once to try all the appetizers, the sushi dinner and boy is it great as well. On top of all of the this, I love the vibe and the interior decor inside the restaurant. So happy we have a place like this is jersey. Def highly recommended by me and everyone I've gone with.
