The food, the service, the information on all the dishes was most greatly appreciated by our waiter named John. He really deserves a raise. Very friendly gentleman. Appetizers, main dishes, on the desserts too, really informative. Loved the drinks, food was excellent. Ordered a few espresso martini’s, very delicious. Northern lights cocktail too.
I felt like I was drinking a healthy based drink.
Medium rare steak with a salt I’ve never tried called Maldon Sea Salt. Lamb rack was also very good. I’m really not sure why this restaurant doesn’t have 5 stars, everyone is very welcoming. We had a sushi chef that came to our table and we asked him to surprise us on a roll. It also was the best roll I’ve ever tried,
I was in complete shock on how good it actually is. I’m here for my birthday and they made it special. Would definitely love to come here again.

The food was well worth it. My first time at a steak house and I loved every minute of it. Our server was great had wonderful recommendations. I haven’t had service like this in a long time. The appetizers were great came out fresh. There drinks were really good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and I’d definitely return. Reservations are the best way to go.

This establishment is great if you don't mind loud people in the background. What I noticed was that there are no signs for the restrooms until you are right in front of the bathroom door. I'm really curious about how many people ask where the bathrooms are. I ordered the chicken parmigiana, and nowhere in the menu says It comes with a say of pasta.
The freanch onion soup is a most have.

This is the kind of place that reminds you why tipping for dining out used to feel worth it.

The food is fantastic—we haven’t had a steak this good in a long time. But the real standout is the service. Our servers were incredibly friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. They answered all our questions and always appeared at just the right moment. My family was there last night to celebrate a birthday and the Mid-Autumn Festival, and we had an amazing evening.

Entire experience was highly underwhelming. We were crammed at a table that was wedged against a pillar and on either side of us was a party of 6 and a party of 5.. my girlfriend and I had to position the table just so the back of her chair and another patrons did not touch. Onto the food, aside from the tomahawk and the fried shaved onions, everything else lacked presentation, flavor and consistency. Shrimp cocktail was served on a bed of wilted lettuce, the cocktail sauce was liquidy and runny, and had the appearance of a diner style shrimp cocktail. The Oysters Rockefeller had shell chippings in the mixture and the mixture was a sloppy runny mess. It was obvious that the mashed potatoes were instant and not homemade as they had absolutely no texture and were very thin and liquidy. The creamed spinach was watery and had no consistency or flavor. The creamed spinach actually tasted as if someone had mowed a lawn and cooked the clippings with cream. We were given a dirty share plate for our Tomahawk that had remnants of a chocolate dessert on the top side of the plate …asked for another plate and the 2nd plate had even more remnants of some chocolate dessert on the underside of the plate. Steak was cooked perfectly and had very good flavor. Shaved onions were lightly fried/crispy and not greasy. Had to flag server a handful of times to get their attention throughout the meal, whether it be for another cocktail or the check. For a $400 meal (not including tip) I expected much better quality and attention to detail.

I had this place on my radar for a few years and finally went for the first time yesterday. If only I had gone sooner. This place is AWESOME. The steak is the best I’ve had in the greater NY area, and that includes Keens and Peter Luger’s. And, the service was sensational. We ordered drinks and they arrived perfectly made within seconds. Not an exaggeration.

The staff was also super charming and friendly and made the experience enchanting and personal. I cannot recommend highly enough!

we dined here (1st time) to celebrate. However, total dismay when the waiter for some reason, dropped the leftover steak drippings and stained my new Hermes bag! UGH!!! i am definitely NEVER coming back to this place! and I disagree that this is the best steakhouse in bergen county. there are lots of better places than this one! Tbone steak's rub was not delicious, salad was disgusting (just refuse this even if its free), bread and dessert were subpar. Aptly called kitchensink banana split...it really was meant for the sink!

Very bad valet parking attendants. Rude and careless about cars. May be they are understaffed and try to hurry, or they like to test-drive clients' cars. I don't like somebody drag-racing 1000ft like crazy in my car without even heating. Definitely 1 second is not worth it.

Finally visited after living in the area for quite some time and it was worth every penny. Went on a cold Monday in December to celebrate my birthday and was shocked to see every table busy so definitely recommend grabbing a reservation. Immediately upon being seated we were welcomed by our server Carlos who walked us through the menu and explained to us to take our time. This was really appreciated as the whole time we were there we felt in good hands. We ordered the coconut shrimp and otoro crispy rice to start and both were excellent. For the main I had the dry aged ribeye and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. For desert we had the pumpkin bourbon crème brûlée and that was phenomenal. They also brought out a birthday dessert for myself so it was a great time!

We went to the River Palm for Thanksgiving. We had a good experience there last Thanksgiving. Not this time. We were put at a table in the back. We were sitting in what was a walkway to the kitchen because another table had been expanded to seat a large group. Waiters bumped into me a number of times or hit the open chair at our table which pushed it onto my legs. The food was okay but not up to previous experiences. When I complained to a manager, I was told thank you for letting us know.

This is an expensive place and the dining experience should be of a high standard. This was not the case tonight.

I was really excited to take my son to a renowned steak house because of his love for steak and lobster. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the name or reputation. While dining, we found a piece of paper trash in our salad, and we were disappointed with the response from both the server and the management. They asked if we wanted a replacement, which we did, and then they charged us for it! The paper trash was a rolled-up ticket the size of a gumball in the salad. If it weren't for my daughter questioning what it was, she might have put it in her mouth.

When we reported it, they knew instantly what it was, as if this is a regular occurrence. I typically do not leave reviews, but this experience was so crazy that I felt compelled to share. I was quite taken aback to experience this at an upscale restaurant. I would have expected this to happen in a mediocre establishment. Not only did they continue to charge for the salad, but there was no attempt to make up for the awful experience, such as offering a dessert or coffee on the house (let alone the bill itself). Needless to say, I probably will never go back there, and unfortunately, my kids will always remember this incident, preventing them from ever wanting to return as well. This means they lose the next generation of customers.

Reading the reviews now, especially of late, seem to echo the theme surrounding management and service. It's too bad, because like others state, this place used to be a gem! My advice would be to find other reputable establishments (we have many in the area). This feedback may not affect them because they are well-known and very busy, but I feel that it's important to uphold the service and cleanliness that customers deserve.

Used to enjoy this place. Was not pleased. They sat us by a fire exit and the service station. We were so cramped in the waiter serving the table next to us kept hitting our table. The service was below average. The steak was tough for a prime dry aged piece. When we ordered dessert our coffee came 15min after we had desert. I will not patronize this place again. Not worth it.

I ordered take out and arrived 15 minutes after to pickup. I wanted fresh hog food. I live less the a mile from RP. The mashed potatoes were room temperature and so was the steak. How is that possible if it was cooked fresh. Also the spinach I ordered was left off. How do you do any of that. Someone is truly screwing up. I’m a 40 year customer.

I ordered the bone in filet, and they were out of it. So, I ordered the filet medium. They brought out a well-done filet. The waiter apologized and brought it back. My friend was served his correctly. We both ordered the same. We had oysters and soup for appetizers and filets and scallops for our main course. I told my friend not to wait as mine was being redone. The manager came by to apologize but did not offer anything other than an apology. The drinks were good. The atmosphere was fine. Desert and expresso were delicious. I have been here before with no issues and was slightly disappointed that a complimentary drink or desert was not offered for their mistake. But all in all, it was a pleasurable night, and I will return.

This is a blend of my past two experiences at RPT, over the past ten days.

The atmosphere is perfect for business or social meetings: not noisy but equally lively, with dimmed lights. No shorts or caps allowed. No opinion on that: their policy.

The service for the first time was good but we had to wait way too long for water, desert and the check (followed up three times with the latter as the waiter disappeared).
However, yesterday Johnny took great care of us. Quick, accurate, very funny, striking the right balance of covering the table while not interrupting conversation flow. 5 * to him.

Food: the sushi is really good. I would say 3.5/3.75 compared to top notch quality sushi you’d get in Japan. Fresh ingredients, tasty. The burger I ordered was cooked medium vs. My request of medium rare (not the first time I have this issue as it has happened in the past with a steak only to be told that it’s normal for a steak to be cooked more on the sides!!!). My biggest problem comes from the fact that the first time we had ordered two desserts and asked to have them wrapped for take away -as the portions are very big- only to find out that they had cut about half off just to fit their packages!

All in all, a nice place to go to… keeping in mind that their prices bring my valuation of value for money below average. I will go there again.

오래된 인테리어지만 미국 스테이크 하우스 전통과 아늑함이 느껴졌다.
수요일 저녁 6시인데도 사람들이 많았다.
나는 t-bone steak와 lamb을 시켰는데
Lamb은 soso 근데 T-bone steak는
너무너무 굽기가 완벽하고 맛있었다.
그리고 와인을 half bottle로 판매해서 좋았다.
마지막 디져트 Lava cake은 👍
가격은 저렴하지 않지만
행복한 수요일 데이트를 즐겼다.^^

Been going to River Palm for decades. Never have written a review for one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. John and his team do an amazing first class job on all levels. From consistent food quality well prepared , to a professional server staff to a smart good looking festive interior decor that always bustles. As a restaurant management graduate from Johnson & Wales and former food establishment owner, you will be hard pressed to find a steakhouse that does a better job. Lets not forget Andy who has been doing sushi here for 16 years and its as good as any you will eat….Cheers and can’t wait for my next visit

Went with a group of 8 on a Tuesday night and the place was packed! We had a 7:30 reservation and we had one drink at the bar (bar staff were friendly and excellent) and were seated at 7:40. We were promptly greeted by our server who took our drink order. We ordered for appetizers; Fried Calamari, Meatballs with polenta, bone marrow, and spicy rigatoni; all of which were great. we also tried three different sushi rolls with were beyond words, so delicious!

For the main course we ordered 2 of the Tomahawk for Two, 2 orders of the dry aged porterhouse for two, and one order of the skirt steak. We got some sides like creamed spinach as well. The steaks were cooked to perfection. Everything was absolutely amazing. With drinks, apps, sushi, entrees, tax and tip, we spent $250 a person and it was well worth it.

As a long standing returning customer of River Palm in Edgewater Nj. We truly love the food but we had reservations for Oct 23rd at 6pm my husband and I were highly disappointed with our table placement request for his birthday. I called the day prior to make reservations for his birthday and requested specifically a booth. The same day of our reservation they called to confirm our appointment and I reiterated we would like a booth because we’re celebrating his birthday. Upon arrival to the restaurant the female hostess walked us all the way to a table (not a booth) in the far back dimly lit area of the Restaurant and clearly stated there were no booths available when we could clearly see an open and available booth right in front of us.

This was not the first time this has happened to us as repeat customers of this restaurant and at this point especially knowing we were celebrating his birthday, my husband and I were both truly offended with this table placement. And made us feel that if another couple would have arrived before us they would have placed them at the booth that was available so is there selective seating for “certain couples” I wonder.

We immediately informed the manager who then placed us at the booth that was available. The first half of my husbands birthday dinner was very uncomfortable. Not only was his steak not to his liking. It was knowing that this placed a bad feeling in our hearts and knowing this was our favorite restaurant for food that we would no longer support. Going forward we would feel better patronizing other restaurants that value are support.

Didn’t have the best experience my first time. We had reservations and when we arrive they said they only had the second floor available and when we got to second floor - the room was so loud by a party next to us. We couldn’t hear the waitress nor each other the entire time we were there. It felt like a sports bar in second floor. Very inconvenient when trying to have a nice night out in a “fine dine” kind of place. We couldn’t even stay or have desert on how loud and vulgar the table next to us was and everyone in that floor heard it. We asked for check to leave and when we left the same table I asked for in first floor was still empty. My advice is when your customers make rsvp ask them if they rather the first or second floor don’t say tables are reserved and then the same table still available after dinner.

Nothing in this place is worth the way they treat you. I’m speaking as a customer of 30+ years. Ever since the original owners had sold the location, its all went downhill.

The waitress we had tonight was very assertive and dismissive. It all started when I simply asked for a straw for my drink. She turned the other way as soon as I asked and when I said it again she just brushed me off. After it was clear that getting a straw was below her expectations, we asked a busboy who happily obliged.

Her reaction to this was even more childish. She continued to reach over me specifically without no warning and push my chair as if nobody was sitting in it.

The only thing she made sure we got right away was the check. She actually hovered over us until it was paid. I’ve never seen such behavior and this place should be ashamed.

This establishment is great if you don't mind loud people in the background. What I noticed was that there are no signs for the restrooms until you are right in front of the bathroom door. I'm really curious about how many people ask where the bathrooms are. I ordered the chicken parmigiana, and nowhere in the menu says It comes with a say of pasta.

The food was well worth it. My first time at a steak house and I loved every minute of it. Our server was great had wonderful recommendations. I haven’t had service like this in a long time. The appetizers were great came out fresh. There drinks were really good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and I’d definitely return. Reservations are the best way to go.

This is the kind of place that reminds you why tipping for dining out used to feel worth it.

The food is fantastic—we haven’t had a steak this good in a long time. But the real standout is the service. Our servers were incredibly friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. They answered all our questions and always appeared at just the right moment. My family was there last night to celebrate a birthday and the Mid-Autumn Festival, and we had an amazing evening.

Horrible- we never had our dinner because the restaurant didn’t seat us and had us waiting for over 35 mins past our reservation. They blamed “traffic” for other guests being late and the reason they were backed up so they decided to treat the parties who showed up for their reservation on time poorly. Horrible attitude from the hostess- no apology. De novo accommodated us right away and our party ended up leaving and eating there instead. Highly recommended De Novo over this restaurant

As far as atmosphere typical well kept steakhouse setting. Not too shabby. Now the food is worth the trip to NJ and the service is worth 10x the suggested gratuity. Our server Dave (not the manager) was amazing. He checked on us frequently, made excellent suggestions and was very sweet to my 6 ur old daughter. The service he provides makes u feel like ur visiting a friend/family member. All of the food we consumed was excellent from the baked clams to the aged steak and the very big chocolate cake. Says it feeds 2ppl but it can feed 5 or more. Treat yourself. You won't regret it !

We took our 22year old son here for his birthday. He loves steak and the ribeye did not disappoint. We drove an hour to eat here and his words were “it was so worth the drive”. The only problem I had was that all the seafood they serve is farm raised. I will never eat farm raised anything so I was a bit disappointed. However, I quickly rebounded when I ate the penne all a vodka. It was to die for. The truffle fries were delicious and the desserts were out of this world. We will definitely come back.

Went for the first time for a birthday lunch with the family. Now I know why my son loves this place. It’s valet parking and the attendant was quick. Be careful of cars coming into the lot as you are walking in. The food was excellent and atmosphere nice. The waitress (Ioana) was a pro and gave my son a birthday dessert which was nice. Would recommend highly.

Update: I received some bad news so i wanted a little treat...so disappointed...over cooked steak irks me...how do you screw up Medium Rare?? The manager skipped our table...How insulting! Carol the hostess gave me a little comfort but I will think twice about going back. The food doesn't taste as good.

Old review: My favorite steakhouse! They know steak and hospitality! If we dine in and there is a problem, even if the manager was not called to assist, they come over to ensure satisfaction. If you have never had a dry aged steak, you are missing out. If you are going to try it go to River Palm...but be warned you will never be able to fully enjoy another establishment.

Had a great lunch on Saturday.
Members of my party were stuck in traffic and the staff was super accommodating. Didn’t feel pressured or rushed. Service and food were great. Marco, a manager, came by and checked on us and made sure everything was to our liking.

I got the Executive T-bone dry aged steak, and It was one of the best steaks I ever had. For appetizers, we had a dozen oysters (1/2 blue point and 1/2 Kumamoto). The oysters were also very good. They have a great mine and whiskey menu. You can get just about any cocktail you want.

Whenever my best friend from high school and I get together this is our go-to place. We don’t even have to ask each other where! From the time the valet whisks my car away, the greeting from the hostess that has been there for years, to the last bite of food, everything is spectacular. There is a reason the River Palm Terrace is successful for so many decades. They know how to do it right.

We showed up later at night close to kitchen shut down after a great night in the city and needed food before the drive upsate. We called ahead and they were honest and just said come on in but we'd like you to order as soon as possible. Seated us right away, took various orders and had food out within 10-15mins, max. Everything was delicious! Service was phenomenal. Never felt rushed even as they were clearly wrapping up the night. Was the perfect stop over for much needed food! Would definitely go back.

Everything we ordered was among the best we ever had. Those PEI Muscles served in a beautiful Tureen with a fantastic broth was amazing. I mopped up every drop with crusty bread! Likewise the in season soft shell crabs. Desserts including the pistachio tartufo simply the best.

Had an amazing food and dinner experience here, albeit a little crowded for the small space. Only complaint is please, please, turn the lights up. At least 10 people while I was there had to use their cell phones to light up the menu and read, really ruins the ambiance and makes it impossible to see the art and photos on the walls.

Arrived around 6:30 pm on a Friday evening. My guest and I were seated at a table for two near the kitchen entrance. The service couldn't have been better. My guest ordered the T-bone, rare+ with garlic mashed potatoes. I ordered a Ceasar salad, aged ribeye (medium) , and creamed spinach. The salad was fresh and otherwise unremarkable. Our steaks were cooked to the proper temperature and very tender and flavorful. My guest enjoyed her garlic mashed potatoes. My creamed spinach could have used more spinach. Overall, a delicious main course. I ordered the "Extra creamy New York stile cheesecake" but didn't think it was "extra creamy." It was tasty but dryer than I like and was expecting. The downside to the evening was the noise level. Granted, it was a Friday night and a full house, but I didn't expect the volume to be so high. It was a relief to get in my car.

Steaks were excellent. Caesar salad left a lot to be desired - would not recommend. Desserts were okay. Biggest issue though was we reserved seats downstairs in the main dining room. Called to confirm as my great uncle was joining us and he’s 85 years old. We got there and they put us upstairs. Didn’t argue, but they put us by a tight table by the stairs so asked to move. Was told the table we wanted *could* fit more than 4, so they wouldn’t give it to us. Five minutes later they sat 2 people at the table. Spoke to asst manager who apologized but did nothing about it. Manager was a little rude to my great uncle. The ambiance can be nice though the music was a bit loud and upstairs is namely families and larger tables (and us 😂). Was overall pretty but disappointing management and hostesses. Restaurants have to understand when you spend over $100 per person one should expect to be treated respectfully no matter who you are, and food should be top notch.

Very good experience and great food. I ordered oysters, rib eye steak, lamb chops, venison (menu of the day I think?), and desserts. The steak and lamb chops were amazing. I ordered all of them medium rare. I’ve been having a hard time finding venison in a restaurant, so I was really excited to eat it. Unfortunately the taste of it was too sweet (most likely from the red wine flavor added) and it tasted like medium well/well done steak. For me I’m used to the gamey and almost like eating medium rare lamb (?) taste of venison.

Anyways, service was impeccable. My waiter, Daniel, really worked out of his way to provide great service and making sure we were good. I’ve been to so many restaurants and I’ve never seen someone do things for us like he did. It was something normally people do themselves, but he did it for us instead. It was odd and touching at the same time. I was torn between crème brûlée (my fav anywhere tbh) and the fudge brownie. Daniel recommended the fudge brownie, but the fudge ended up being too rich for me. He was so nice he gave me crème brûlée on the house. Husband said the pecan pie was amazing.

One thing I wasn’t too much of a fan about was the bathroom. As I was sitting, massive dust most likely from toilet tissue was floating around in my face. It was so distracting and honesty really weird.

Overall, this restaurant is amazing and homey. If you want a quiet place for a romantic dinner this is not the place. It’s a loud (I’m pretty sure Italian)place that place that plays Frank Sinatra music. I was a bit unsure how my experience would be considering I saw the amount of 1 star and 5 stars leading me to taking the 50/50 chance on this place. Now I can say that this place really is great and I’m glad I chose to go here. If you want to pick a steakhouse whether it’s in NJ or NYC I still would consider Gallagher’s the best. However, I think the waiters here go a little more out of their way service wise compared to Gallagher’s. Hope this helps!

It was ok. The sushi was REALLY good. The oysters were just okay. And I got zucchini blooms they were more like fried cheese sticks - so much cheese… if you like cheese sticks get these.
Besides that the service just wasn’t good. But the sushi was super good maybe next time I just get it to go.
What I did like is they have a daily menu I always enjoy picking food from a current/specials menu.
