Great sushi, but there’s two Hispanic males that make the sushi over in the bar. They make my daughters uncomfortable! they talk in between each other and just start staring as soon as walking in through the doors. Including while we’re eating, I think it’s pathetic. It weird and disgusting I think they shall have a bit of respect towards the costumers!

First off, I found the food to be good and the prices reasonable. I wouldn't call the staff friendly but they weren't rude either. They were just there going through the motions. There's rules posted on the wall when you first walk in. It was things like rules about getting all you can eat sushi and wait times for groups and things. I just found that very off-putting when you first walk in. It didn't set a good vibe for the rest of the visit.

12/07/2024 update: we come again with family and I was hard sell to this place, however, this time really disappointed. The rice is cold and hard. The eel (unagi) is soft and fishy, feels like uncooked. Also, everything taste toward sweet, even hand roll is sweet!? I have to take 1 star off, hopefully next time will improve or I may not try again. We didn’t take any photo this.

This is my second time here within 30 days. first time was super crowded maybe because is dinner time, we had to wait for >30mins in cold outdoor. This time we came for lunch, and we get to walk straight in. Food is fresh as last time and tastes pretty good for AYCE(all you can eat) sushi. plating is okay, rice is not particular big or overly compacted for AYCE which is good. They have many choices of food to choose for AYCE included tempura which is some of others restaurants doesn’t offer. waiters are friendly, price is reasonable. Need some time to find parking or park on street if you don’t mind.

Busy little Restuarant considering it was a holiday; they were pumping customers in and out. Waited less than 5 mins. Seating is tight; we ended up sitting at bar.

Heard good things and they didn't disappoint.

Fish was fresh and good quality. Enjoyed all items: Tuna, Salmon, Unagi, Inari, Peppered Tuna, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Polar bear hand roll (my favorite new sushi), tempura mix, seaweed and cucumber salads.

Ordered a lot in a short window and food came out rather quick. Great service as well ! Will definitely be back - AYCE lunch $27.95

Tokyo suffers from having to be the best sushi in Reno. They're range is perfect and each sushi roll presents its own unique flavor all the while tasting fresh and matching the temperature it needs to be served at. Parking can be abysmal so plan to go early and wait to be seated. I could definitely see this place moving somewhere they could have the parking and seating they needed for the demand for their sushi.

We have been coming here for years and it's always been a favorite. HOWEVER, the last time (less than a month ago) it smelled pretty fishy when we walked in and the food had a strong fish taste (it's sushi but like a bad fishy smell/ taste) we decided to give it another try and again the smell was off putting once inside but I was starving. I only got a few bites in and couldn't even swallow anymore than that. Mussels were the best, my regular rolls eye just too fishy and my partner agreed with his. I don't know what happened or what changed but we probably won't be giving them another try. It's very obvious they are trying to cover up the fish smell with undiluted cleaning chemicals.

It was okay. We tried a lot of different nigiri and hand rolls but sake was probably the only one that I thought was worth ordering again. Tai and tako were also not bad, but like other items such as the saba wasn’t my style as it was a little too cooked for my liking/a little extra fishy. The food also took a while too. Service wasn’t bad and honestly the overall experience was not bad, but I’m not sure if I’d visit again, might try a different sushi buffet in the area for the price (dinner is like $32-33 before tips/taxes). Dessert is nice though—different choices of ice cream for all guests.

Tokyo Sushi is by and far the best sushi available in Reno. No reservations and quick service with delicious items all across the menu. You won't find any of the basics here, all you'll find is quality rolls and well executed appetizers that pair perfectly with sushi.

I've been to Tokyo Sushi three times now and it is great for a couples experience as well as a birthday group. I wouldn't do parties greater than 6 just because the seating arrangements start to get complicated. Just show up knowing that you might have to wait in line to ask for a table. I'd say 5-6pm is the best window to arrive in and there's less than a five minute wait until you're sitting down. After 7pm, expect to wait about 30 minutes at least.

I'll continue to come to Tokyo Sushi for birthdays, dates, and any special occasion. I always leave feeling like I had the best sushi experience. 💜

Loved this place for a long time. Unfortunately, I developed an allergy to shellfish and stopped eating shrimp. I still attended with the family because we are all fans. I decided to come to celebrate a family reunion and was looking forward to getting some à la carte veggie rolls, but since we were a big group, I couldn't do à la carte and only had the option to do a bento box (teriyaki chicken and rice) for $25.95 or all-you-can-eat (which I didn't want). I was not going to pay $32.95 for two veggie rolls. I am so disappointed. I couldn't enjoy my family dinner. It's so unfortunate because I come here for lunch meetings and I'm always recommending this place to everyone. I will no longer be doing that. What a way to lose loyal customers!

Two of my dining companions wanted all you can eat, I didn’t as I never had sushi before & I was also not hungry. I decided to order from a la carte menu, but was forced to get either all you can eat or bento box. I do not want bento box - I have strict dietary measures and those options that did fit did not align with my preferences either. I ended up having to pay $16 more for the same thing as I initially ordered just to sit with my friends. So I paid $25 for sushi that should have cost $10. I wasn’t here to scrounge off my friends paying for all you can eat. I didn’t like the sushi anyway so I won’t be back. Customer service is non existent here. The food is okay I just don’t like sushi to pay for it. From the pieces that came I had tried a little bit to see what I liked and nothing stood out. They all basically tasted the same.

Overall, I'd say it was good and worth returning to. I think the baked mussels have a little bit too much going on and could be a little bit simpler.

The hot sake is awesome.

And all the rolls that we tried and all of the nigiri were delicious.

Not a very traditional Japanese Tokyo atmosphere. Think Hispanic soccer and daytime TV.

Our server was A+

I have dined at Tokyo Sushi for lunch many times and never had a bad experience, however my friends and I went there for dinner and it was a whole different experience.
We arrived just after 5pm and it wasn’t too crowded but the music was very loud as I couldn’t hear the waitress. We were informed that we were not allowed to order À la cart but only all you can eat. My partner was only going to eat a couple appetizers but we had to pay for all you can eat. I also couldn’t order a large hot sake because they were only doing all you can drink sake.
We put in our food and drink order for the entire table. Drinks came out pretty quickly but our food order took quite a bit longer. The muscles are dried up and cold. Not appetizing but the rest of the food was delicious. We never received our entire food order and got tired of waiting for it or an answer from our waitress. Definitely not going to be back for dinner

Absolutely love this place! We go every time we're in Reno. Sometimes 2, 3 times in a weekend. Their all you can eat sushi is delicious! My favorite is the Black Angel roll, but there are so many yummy options. I love the light fixtures and the atmosphere. It's loud enough that you can talk without feeling like people are hearing your every word, but not too loud that you can't hear your people. Highly recommend!

We did read multiple reviews of this restaurant including a number of very critical comments regarding the service, the wait and the quality of the sushi. We were a bit nervous about going here especially since we were going to cab it there as we were worried about the wait. The wait was long about 45 minutes before we were lead to the sushi bar. However the food was very very good. The fish was very fresh and delicious and the service was ok, not great but ok. The sushi chef was Latino and excellent. We were very impressed with the quality of the fish and the fact that they minimized the rice as all we ordered was nigiri sushi. We stuffed ourselves as the pictures will show and the bill was just over $70 for the two of us (excluding tip). We ended up walking back to the El Dorado Hotel (almost 2 miles) to work off all we ate. We were very happy and delighted as we head home after a 11 day bike packing trip!!

I’ll preface this by saying I did A La Carte and not the all you can eat.

I’ve been coming to Reno every year for over 20 years and came here on advice from a friend. Usually my go-to is Sushi Pier in the cost-co parking lot. Tried this place and can say? Not impressed at all. Their unagi, tempura shrimp hand roll (the Polar Bear) and salmon skin hand roll were all served practically cold. It’s obvious they pre-fry everything and not do things made to order. The “Polar Bear” hand roll I had was OVERLOADED with crab mix. Which like? Cool? But it felt like it was hiding the quality of the rest of the roll. I didn’t bother to finish it because the tempura shrimp was soggy and cold.

Their nigiri sushi is pretty much just OK. The hamachi was a tad mealy as was the salmon. The rice was very tough and a tad over-sweet. I also got the “Mickey Mouse” nigiri cause I usually don’t do rolls and that’s as American as I get… again the rice was super tough. The flavor profile of the piece was somewhat redeeming but not enough for me to want to finish the second piece.

Overall I’m someone who can finish like three hand rolls and at least a 8 piece sashimi appetizer and like 8 nigiri sushi and I barely finished four nigiri and one and a half hand rolls.

All in all I won’t be returning here. When I was in Reno a month ago Sushi Pier was far superior and their hamachi sashimi appetizer was beyond delicious.

EDITED TO ADD: when I got my bill ($56) I replied that I didn’t finish over half of my food and it was, quite possibly, the worst sushi I’ve had in over the last few years in Reno (cause let’s be real… I don’t remember much past five years.) The response? “Oh. Sorry.” Cool. I have just texted everyone I know to never come here. I suggest you never come here either.

Told us "We have to wait in our car to be called next, with a text" I told her it was "HOT" outside, my husband is disabled, not feeling the greatest, and she demanded us to wait in the heat, no politeness, no curiosity. How RUDE!!! We left immediately, and you just lost weekly regular customers. We will find another sushi spot, probably better, and we are going to tell everyone our experience. We work in the travel industry and we will warn people to take thier dining experience elsewhere. RUDE! DISRESPECTFUL!

Very busy sushi place with the best sushi I've had in Reno. The place is super busy, but that means two things in my estimation: 1) the food will be fresh, bec it doesn't sit around; and 2.) if so many people like ti, it must be good. Well, it IS fresh and it IS good. All you can eat options that are nicely priced. Wife took me for my first time today. She'd been telling me for months that I need to try it. I had some difficulty finding good sushi in Reno. Not any more. This is my permanent sushi stop.

I absolutely loved eating at this place till the other night when I was having all you can eat and in one of the rolls I ate there was a sharp fish bone.
I let one of the managers know and they said “it happens”
To me that’s not okay because it could have been worse if I actually swallowed it. The manger gave no apology or no offer to take off any money on the check.
If a child were to eat a roll and have the same thing it could be horrible.

We’ve loved Tokyo sushi for years. It has been a while, so we thought we’d have lunch. We left without eating because we were told that you can no longer order alacart sushi. You either pay all you can eat or eat off the non sushi menu. My daughter who’s 11 eats 1.5 rolls so we left bc we weren’t going to pay all you can eat prices for her to only eat a roll. I am so sad to say we’re not going to be frequenting this establishment ever again.

6/11/24 - I'm from California, and our sushi is outrageously priced. One roll is $13.95 - $18.95 on average. Coming here and paying $9 - $11 a roll to have fresh and tasty sushi is 1000% a win! This place is worth the adventure to stop in.

Have been here now 5 or 6 times, and EVERYTIME, it's been good. We literally drive 3.5 hours just to eat sushi here. The casinos are the bonus, and this is the star. We will see you all soon!

Update: This past weekend, we visited our favorite sushi spot again. After our last visit quite a while ago where we had a negative experience due to the staff not listening to our request for a la carte and telling us that we couldn't share, then giving us a bill charging for all you can eat, we returned. This time we ordered a la carte at the bar and they gave us circular dishes that we thought were indications that we were sharing and not ordering all you can eat, but, when we receive the bill, they tried to charge us for all you can eat again! Didn't even verify with us beforehand. Is this a scheme to get patrons to pay the higher priced bill without looking? Very big turn off x2. Food was still amazing though....but is it worth people trying to scam us? We love the sushi here, Drive almost 4 hrs just to come here...discouraging at best.

Update! 11/10/23: You guys did us right! Sushi amazing, ordered the Tokyo, Hot Bae, the Jazz, M3, and Mickey Mouse. The bill is correct! Staff was excellent! Thank you!

Back again 11/24/23 - again AMAZING! M3, Jazz, Mickey Mouse, and the Chao no lemon. IN RENO, THIS IS THR ONLY PLACE TO GO!!!

Back again 6/10/24 -- Still the sushi ive ever had...get that Jazz!!!! Tried a new one today....Red Snapper Nigiri. Great experience yet again!

Not as good as everyone says and pricey for a sushi buffet. They didnt have enough servers and probably cooks as well. our food and drinks took some time before we got them. After we ordered the first batch of sushi it took about 15-20mins to get the next, regardless how early you put your order. In the end we only ordered three times and were just disappointed of the time it takes to get food. As far as the sushi, they were small which is fine for an ayce. There are few nigiri's I like which includes their specialty Daffy, upside down shrimp and salmon. The rolls are standard. Handrolls are pretty good. I wouldnt recommend getting AYCE here as it is definitely not worth it, buy ala cart instead.
FYI do not order chicken teriyaki here, its the worst Ive tasted, bland and dry. My sis ordered this separately for her kid, it was left barely eaten.

Best in Reno for sushi, and I can rate each place, Im sushi addict. I wish I could keep this place a secret so I would not have to stand in line to get in. Pluses: best creativity on rolls selection, still ok quality ikura (used to be really good ikura), larger space with lots of tables, best baked muscles in town. Minuses: baked muscles are limited to 2 orders per person, no space to sit and wait to be seated inside, you have to sign up and wait outside, parking is nightmare, bar seating is not too many seats, can't tell which soy sauce is light or regular due to unlabeled bottles, always too busy and long wait. Once I waited for 1 hour 15 minutes for 2 rolls take out order. Service sometimes not the friendliest but probably because they get stressed out because how busy they get, and because they come off as rude when they start listing all the limitations, such as all you can eat limited to 2 hours, only 2 orders of muscles per person, etc. However, the wait is worth it. Favorite rolls: hot Bae and super dynamite.

While the menu was a little light on non-seafood options (besides the 3 veggie rolls I enjoyed, which were flavorful!), they were happy to bring extra teriyaki and sriracha sauce on the side for an extra kick. I would just recommend that they add maybe a chicken or steak rolls. It was crowded for a Tuesday night the layout of the restaurant made it feel open and welcoming.

Not crazy about the service of the lady in front but food was good for an AYCE sushi place. More selection than Sushi Pier. The nigiri, regular rolls were smaller and less rice ratio than typical sushi joint which I prefer since the price was lower And we can have more variety. I would maybe have sauce on the side as it tasted more sweet.
We liked the black angel rolls best, spicy tuna hand roll, Donald Duck. Updise down shrimp, tamago, baked mussels (hub fav) and spider roll (sauce on side). Fried banana with Huckleberry ice cream was very good.
Would love to try the hamachi kama and other things next time. AYCE is worth it if you can eat. Tea is charged per person.
My son liked the tuna, hamachi and seared tuna nigiri but the scallops they had was small, not the big one so we don't really liked it.
They also have a great online Togo order of $32 for 3 rolls, 2 nigiri and 2 appetizer deals. Maybe I would try these appetizers: the tempura mix, crab balls, seafood yakiton wonton, age tofu for appetizer.

Rolls: Sakura, black angel. Sierra, Carson City. spider sauce on side.

Nigiri upside down shrimp, Micky mouse, Donald Duck, seared maguro.

Handrolls: Snow hand rolls, Handover, spicy tuna, polar bear hand rolls.

Another great sushi place in Reno with high quality sushi and large variety, however both times I've gone the place was extremely busy and crowded, and the first time we were told to wait outside when it was raining and 40 degrees outside...pretty ridiculous but the food made up for it.

All you can eat for around $30. We ordered about 7 rolls and I only didn't really enjoy two of them. That's a win in my book. The Nigri tasted fresh and the hot sake was the cherry on top. It was very packed with a wait time on a Saturday at 5pm. They do tend to want you to be in and out, but we took out time. Bathrooms were dirty but I would return again.

The food tastes really good here. Nice and fresh. There's a wait time, but we waited maybe 20 min to be seated, not bad. While we waited, we got our order ready to place. I don't really care for the time limit they have here. You have 1 hour and 30 min to dine. I don't care for it because it took a little while for the food to come out. So my suggestion is order big on your first ticket, especially if you have a big party. Other than that, the place was clean, staff is friendly, environment was nice. Good job 👏.

Service wasn't the greatest. Our server wasn't really walking around until we asked another server to get her, avoided our table. When we asked for a manager, she walked out with him and "explained" why she wasn't serving us. Saying she was behind on tables because of the kitchen, but after we talked to the manager, our food was brought right out to us. It was only this specific server, everyone else was running around while she was in the back most of the time. Other than that, everything else was fine. Wish she did a better job though, we were there for two hours waiting on our food. Only a few things we had ordered were brought out then we were ignored the rest of the time. She never came out at all. Idk what her name was but this was not a good experience at all

This is our to go AYCE sushi buffet. You order what you want and they bring it to you. You can order as many times as you want. They only let you order one dessert per person though which makes me sad because their fried banana with ice cream is to die for!

Horrible customer service! Management sucks, they treat even worse! The sushi chefs are the ones keeping that business alive, I promise you it's the best sushi you'll ever try, but the all time worse experience because of the servers/managers. They also don't honor the kids discount, and they don't honor their stupid stamp cards.

OK, I grabbed a seat at the sushi bar. This is one of the few places where the bar seating is open. Here at the bar, you don't have to put in that stupid little check off sheet to order or wait for a server to get to your table. Just tell the chef what you want. There were like 7 chefs on duty!

I will say the sushi is very good here and the pieces are a little smaller than average, but that's a good thing, you should be able to eat each piece in one bite. The fish quality was good on all of the species that I tasted. I like nigiri better as you can get the taste of the actual fish and see the skill of the chef in making the cuts and forming the rice. The rice was good too, not pressed to hard and not falling apart either.

If you want to avoid the waits and parking, just get here at opening at 11am or on a Mon - Wed. there should be no wait of prob parking.

Typical average sushi joint. The service was very good, which I appreciate with a large party. The variety of rolls and nigiri is decent. They have several different Bento Box options for your non fish eating friends as well.

Food was okay, but not the amazing experience many people claim. Nigiri is only $4/pair (as of January 2024), but the cuts are ridiculously small so you get what you pay for; Stay with the rolls if you're not doing all-you-can-eat. Staff was attentive and did a good job dealing with our large group, though the restaurant was so busy the chefs seemed behind on the orders. As long as you're not in a rush, it's fine. Noise level was pretty loud for the size of the place.

1- The waiters are nice and provide good service
2- The restaurant has an ok ambiance but is dated.
3- The food tasted bad and it was obvious the ingredients were low quality.
4- My family and I felt bad during the night and my daughter even had to throw up.

I go to sushi quite often and I like this place but it’s always busy when I go and there’s always a wait, but it’s worth it.
Sometimes the service is good and sometimes it’s not so good because they get so busy and don’t always give the best service. But their sushi is good.

I went here for years loving it. Slowly the food became less and less of someone to talk about. 2yrs ago I swore to not come back as they tried to make me eat a garbage roll that was not to standards. So 2yrs I haven't went and considered giving them a try but alas I will not. My friend currently dieing from a food poisoning from that establishment yesterday.
Sad to see such a once loved place take such a decline in just a few years.
It is unfortunate.

Terrible service, We had to wait a long time for a waiter to come get our order, And we ordered two of one dish, but they only came out with one and this Hispanic waiter(I didn’t get his name, he wasn’t wearing a name tag) he said he’d get the other one off our bill for the inconvenience I guess but when my mom let him know it was still on the bill, he took it off but he came back and stood up the bill rudely and with an attitude.

Sushi is awesome - fresh and made to order. Lots of selection. Great value for the money; all you can eat is worth it. Service is iffy - some of the staff don't communicate well in English - but you can wave down another person to make sure you were understood. Atmosphere is basic - you're not going for the ambiance. I will go back every time I'm in town!

We drop by for sushi buffet on Christmas Eve. It is almost full but we don't need to wait to be seated. When we place the second round of order for a few more items, one roll is missing. We need to ask the waiter for this item. We order three banana ice cream dessert. It is a deep fried banana on top of the ice cream. All three bananas are black inside. They pre pried the banana and put them in fridge for too long. Banana already long gone rotten inside. This is really ugly and we are all afraid if we will have diarrhea afterward.

We told the waitress we have 3 adults and 1 child under 10years old when we arriv. However when our check comes, it shows total 4 adults. We ask the restaurant their employee to correct the mistake. A guy comes and asks my daughter her birth year. My daughter answers his question. I also explains my daughter is a few days to her 10 year age. However the guy answers by saying: It still counts. It makes my wife annoyed coz she is still working about the banana ice cream she took. And then the guy asks my wife for our daughter's birth certificate. It is the first time we see a restaurant asks to check birth certificate. Who take their children's birth certificate going out for dinning? Fortunately my wife has a phone of my daughter's student paperwork showing her birthday.

This restaurant spoils our Christmas Eve. We keep comforting my wife and trying to make her happy on the way back to our hotel. Anyway, it is our first and last time going to this restaurant.
