Yoshitomo, A local Benson neighborhood spot, offers a unique sushi experience in Omaha. Featuring an upscale menu designed for sharing of small plates, nigiri, sashimi, and maki rolls, along with an extensive selection of wine, beer, and sake.
Outstanding sushi spot with dry aged fish options and creative offerings. You wouldn’t expect to find an outstanding sushi spot in Omaha but this place delivers. Great service from Sage, great atmosphere and the sushi chef, Matthew was on point-Watching him work was great. Next time we are in Omaha we will definitely come back. 6 stars out of five

My partner and I were pretty excited to try Yoshitomo on our vacation but left feeling a bit disappointed. We started with the pork belly, which was a bit too sweet for our taste. We had a few more selections from the bites menu and then moved to rolls. One item from Bites we enjoyed was the Hama Toast. The rolls were a bit lacking in depth, and everything we got with rice, the rice was mushy. We finished with Toro Nigiri, but again, the rice was mushy, and it wasn't the best cut. For us, the price did not equate to the quality we got served. Perhaps, it was an off night.

I went for my birthday and had a lovely experience! I’d been wanting to go for a while and was not at all disappointed in anything I ordered! I pre-saved the menu to select a few options before arrival and our server advised of a few specific options so we gave one a try. They were out of the other.
He really sold me on the oysters though so I WILL be back for them!!
I do hope service is a bit more attentive next time. I think we saw our server a quarter as many times as we would have preferred. If not for the wait time between table checks we likely would have ordered more especially drink wise and for smaller bites. I only ended up ordering half the items I expected to but it was all incredible and very filling!
Every dish was so meticulously and perfectly executed! Absolutely understand a restaurant of this talent and quality to not allow alterations but I was a rad skeptical about the no sauces available.
However, it was delicious and had such richness of flavor that, my apologies, I will trust you moving forward lol. You’re absolutely correct that sriracha doesn’t need to be dumped on a single thing you made🤤
Definitely a return customer. Excited to try every single other item on the menu.
Also a lovely setup. “Minimalistic” in some perspectives but it really just gave a very comfy and sophisticated feel to me. No unnecessary decor but what is there is so fascinating. Seems to be a very intentional menu and atmosphere. I wish I had gotten a picture of the red snapper in the dehydrator (aging thing??).
Sit anywhere. It will be wonderful no matter the seat!

Incredible! Dinner here is a can’t miss experience, everything was wildly delicious, from the twist on the deviled egg starter and cocktails to the insane rolls. Joe was an awesome server: he suggested things we wouldn’t normally have gravitated to and we were not disappointed too. We also appreciated how helpful his fellow Joe behind the counter was: any questions we had about anything he was preparing, he happily answered!

First time here and we had a great experience.Very nice and clean place, we came in a Tuesday around 1 pm and we had plenty of parking spaces available, also no wait on sitting. Sushi was really fresh, reasonable price , good portions on each serving, 2 rolls is enough for one person. We also notice in the bottom of your bill a note , please after paying leave the table in consideration for other guests, I thins this is very reasonable petition, after all if there’s people waiting to eat do for them the same thing you’ll like others to do for you :)

Wow. I’m so impressed. From Colorado, live in Florida, costing Omaha, and best restaurant I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Will remember this for time to come. Highest recommendation of any city, any cuisine, a absolutely must.

***Very Very Underwhelmed, Very Disappointed. 10 out of 10 would NOT return, as a big big big foodie.***
So I was really really looking forward to this after a few recommendations, and I'm about 80% disappointed. Definitely high quality food and high quality chefs but super subpar service otherwise and overpriced for quantity if you specifically order an Omakase, as I was recommended. Total 6 dishes for $85, anywhere else that would have been at least 10. I sat at the bar and would have ordered more drinks but the server never came and when she did she forgot like 3 times that I asked for water so... that's awkward. For 6 dishes I don't think it was worth the price of an omakase. Even waiting for my check took a damn eternity.
I left sooooo hungry it was wild. I went next door and got some ramen. Shoulda done that first.

One of the best sushi spots we’ve been to! We’re from Kansas City and were introduced to this spot by a couple of our good friends in Omaha. You must be a food aficionado and appreciate a good bite to understand and love this place. It’s not a place you go to scarf down as much food as you can eat but a place to enjoy a good bite. My all time favorite is the truffle scallop and carbonara (also with scallop). 10/10 recommend and always on our list to go whenever we visit Omaha!

Yoshitomo is the best sushi place in Omaha, along with Koji and Umami. The portions are tiny, but their dishes are fun, creative, and delicious. My favorite is Kani Miso, which has the perfect balance of snow crab, red caviar and buttery rice. I tend to judge the restaurant by the Uni they serve - whether the scent is plesant and the texture. Yoshitomo has such pleasant Uni delivered all the way fresh from Japan. They also change up their menu frequently, which adds to another fun element. I also love Wabri Wagyu!
I notice many people tend to order just one “main dish.” Unlike other places, you should think of each dish here as a mini dish—almost like appetizer-sized portions—and plan to order multiple items.
Another thing I love about Yoshitomo is the element of surprise. Since the menu doesn’t include pictures and is updated regularly, you’re encouraged to embrace the unexpected and enjoy the presentation as it comes.
Personally, I like this restaurant slightly better than Koji, as Koji focuses more on skewers but here, the focus is more on other fun dishes. The servers are always friendly. As far as the atmosphere, I love their dim, theatrical lighting. We visit at least once a month!

Excellent experience, would definitely go back. I could tell how carefully they crafted the flavors. Be aware, most of the menu is raw and the portions are small so don't come if you're starving. Didn't try the sushi but will probably come back for it.

I went with a party and got the 9 course tasting menu. As expected, it was the best sushi I’ve ever had. At first I found the midwestern twist on some of the dishes to be frustrating and thought maybe it took away from the experience. But after some reflection I think that those twists added to the experience. Sushi in Nebraska!? My parents would exclaim, and so would many others. Yes, sushi in Nebraska, and sushi that is distinctly and deliciously Nebraskan. There are thousands of high end sushi restaurants with well trained chefs, but there are none like Yoshitomo.
The sablefish was the best.

Mood and ambiance was cute. Very chic. I do not understand the high ratings, however. The food was… not good. Unsure if we hit a bad night or… that was it? Our sushi genuinely did not taste good (fresh?) and the wagyu was so tendon-ey it was hard to eat. Absolutely not worth what we paid and don’t need to go back.

This place was very disappointing. The food looks good but the dishes fail at everything except for the presentation. Stick with the nigiri if you really want to try this place out. My recommendation is to spend your money somewhere else.

If you haven't experienced Yoshitomo...you are missing out. But first, a warning, if you ever want to enjoy sushi anywhere else in Omaha (or the 5 state area), you may want to hold off enjoying this place, because once you have been here, most other places will seem second rate.
But seriously, if you want a great FOOD experience, don't hesitate to try out Yoshitomo!

What I’m about to say is going to sound like hyperbole, but trust me, it’s not. This is my favorite restaurant in the world. I go as often as I can, and each time I’m blown away. The food is incredible! My favorite part of the menu are the bites. The aburi waygu and hama toast melt in your mouth. It’s without a doubt the best food I’ve ever had. Not only has the food been great, but the service has been wonderful each time I’ve gone. We’ve been lucky to have been served by Joe a couple of times, he was extremely personable and attentive. Just a super cool guy. Another time, we were seated at the bar, and got to speak with Matthew, the ichiban, as he was prepping our food. The passion he had for his craft was contagious. It was an amazing experience. David Yoshitomo has created something truly special and I am extremely grateful to him for doing so.

The Jamachi is absolutely outstanding! And the Seji drink was delicious.
Loved the vibe, and the food was so, so good. They had a great understanding of gluten and made it so easy for me to order safely. Only took off one star because the wait for rolls was pretty long - but we had a great time chatting and digesting, and it was so worth the wait. 🌟🌟🌟 Just plan a little extra time in your day. (Four of us were there 2 hours overall and shared 2 bites, 2 plates, and 3 rolls.)

We reserved 11am seats right when the doors opened, but didn't leave until 1:22pm. It took us almost 2.5 hours to get completely serverd our orders. Granted we ordered 13 items, they were all small plates minus two rolls. The food was great, but I'm giving 4 stars for the food because one of our rolls had remnants of Wasabi and we had asked for no Wasabi on any of our items. The middle pieces of our roll had Wasabi in it and I suspect it was from an unclean knife. The quality of the fish is fantastic, but I just wasted 2.5 hours which was longer than my car was promitted to stay parked outside the restraunt at 2 hours. Our servers were great, but the food delivery time was crazy slow and we were the first and only customers in the restraunt for a while. It felt like 15 minutes between a majority of our items. Will not be coming back just for the sake of time.

I rate the food solely in comparison to other Sushi Omakase locations I've tried, mainly ones in Chicago metro (Sushi By Scratch, Omakase Yume, Kai Zan). Especially for the price value, I give the food a solid 4/5. But for having this tier of sushi restaurant in Nebraska, hands down the best location in the areas.

The best way to describe their version of Japanese cuisine is “fusion” (shoulder shrug).
Nothing on the menu is traditional or even “American” traditional.
This place is very pricy as well. Okay food at a premium price and service is hit or miss. First time was a 4 the second time was a 2. I spent $230 on dinner for 2 and felt like I was getting pushed out after 40 minutes.
Anyway, I’m sure your mileage will vary but I think I’d prefer spending my money elsewhere based on my 2 experiences.

Yoshitomo came highly recommended to me by several friends. But when I made a reservation for an anniversary dinner with my husband, I didn't realize just how phenomenal the experience was going to be!
First off, the food. From the deviled egg appetizer, to the paper crane cocktail, to the immensely fresh and flavorful rolls... we were pampered with every bite. I still can't pinpoint my favorite dish, because they were all so incredible!
Second (and more importantly), the service. Our waitress, Emily, made us feel like royalty! She was kind and attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and as welcoming as could be. She even made a point to bring us a small plate as a treat for our celebration, which was lovely and unexpected.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Yoshitomo for an unforgettable experience! We'll be back soon, and hungry for more!

The food was good, the service was okay and the atmosphere was okay. We stuck with water because I asked for lemonade or cranberry juice and they do not have it. I cannot have carbonation or alcohol so I thought it was odd a restaurant that serves cocktails did not have any of those things. For food, we got the edamame ($6 - came with about 3/4 cup), oni egg ($6.50, 1 deviled egg on some potato salad), aburi wagyu ($20, 2 bites of wagyu beef on rice), hama toast ($12, 2 bites of yellowtail on some toast), kani miso ($20 snowcrab and rice - this looked like more of a filling for a rangoon or an eggroll and came as a small bowl of mix) , and rangucci ($18, shrimp/crab roll - standard makimoni roll w/ 8 pcs). The Rangucci and Aburi Wagyu were the stars of the night.
They brought out each appetizer and small bite one at a time which I thought was a little weird. Then when we got done with our hama toast (our last of the small bites), the waitress asked if we would like anything else, and me thinking she wanted to know if we wanted to order anything else from the small bites menu I said no. She then bussed our table and brought us our check and thanked us for coming. We hadn't even received our kani miso or rangucci yet. I asked her about this and she was apologetic, but I had never had that happen to me before at any restaurant. The check was $83 and we had 0 leftovers. The portions are VERY small for the price. I understand the quality and it being upscale, but I just wanted to note this. Definitely an "experience" type of restaurant. It was just okay for me.

I came in town for the Berkshire annual meeting. We had dinner one night at The Committee Chophouse and when we asked where else to go they recommended this place. It completely lived up to the hype. I was traveling solo and their normal lone spot at the bar had been taken but they worked me in anyways. The chef did a tasting menu for me that was incredible. Not only was the sushi fresh, well prepared, but also the explanations of what I was having and how best to eat them made the experience even better. To top it off, the pricing was an incredible value relative to where I live. I definitely will be back, and feel fortunate to have dined here.

This restaurant deserves all the love it gets and more! First timers and absolutely loved every single thing we got which is not often for us. We sat at the sushi bar where we had the opportunity to watch our food and others prepared. The chef made the work place seem like a big family and honestly the service industry is tough and knowing that we are getting our meal not only from a local business but one that treats their employees like family and is inclusive makes it all that much better. I will for sure be back and spread the word about it!

Had high hopes for this place but was disappointed by my experience. First, there was no one at the front when we arrived. After waiting a while had to peek our head in to get someone's attention. The place is cute and looks like a great place for a date night but the quality of service and food did not match the aesthetics.
Draft beer was flat and served in a warm glass. Sushi rolls tasted fine but zero wow factor and over priced for rather basic rolls. No effort was made on presentation. No ginger or Wasabi was offered, even had to ask the server for soy sauce. Our waitress was not very attentive despite us being her only table at the time. Don't think we will be coming back.

It’s hard to add anything to the wide positive reviews this place has had. We had lunch here and it was simply incredible. My sister lived in Japan for 5 years during which time I was lucky to travel the country with her tasting the most amazing food of my life. This experience took me back to those memories but with some additional unique artistry (14 day smoked unagi with foie gras and cherry? Ridiculously good). We followed the server’s recommendations (Joe from London was stellar) of oni egg, yaki gindara, kani miso, and osaka makimono. All of which I would highly recommend. Memorable and we WILL be back.

We (a group of 4) wanted to try out this place after reading excellent reviews for the past few months, specially one on Washington Post ! While the interior is beautifully decorated with warm greetings and ambience but it just proved again that this land lock state failed to deliver the true sushi/sashimi/nigiri experience that our coastal city can. While plates and makimono rolls were tad bit okay, nigiri's were much better option from the menu. The service needs to improve significantly specially on busy nights. One in our group asked for a fork, soya sauce and wasabi at the beginning of our order. Fork came 10 min before we left (after asking for the second time), which was almost 60 min into our meal, soya sauce and wasabi never did. The entire time, server never asked if we need anything else (clearly ignoring one guest could not eat for 50 min without fork), except till the bill was places on a fancy leather folder. We will only return when the service improves.....clearly with an impression that may be (just may) we don't deserve a good authentic Japanese shushi place in Omaha (except for chain/s of "blue" establishments serving frozen/thaw sushi rolls poured with colorful sweet mayo and sauces on the top).

Every single dish is curated with care and exquisitely prepared. Yoshitomo has my unparalleled respect and highest regard. The waitresses are par to none. A restaurant well worth visiting, and returning. Thank you for the incredible experience of the most enticing nature.

The food was amazing. We had a variety of items and some of them (oyster and scallop especially) were out of this world.
Plan to stay a bit longer than in other restaurants, but it is absolutely worth it!

First the good, the food absolutely lives up to the hype and I'd give it a 6/5 stars if that was possible. I would however recommend a reservation and absolutely do not expect a quick experience.
While the food was incredible, the negative was that the service was a little lacking. Since we walked in without a reservation (our mistake) we ended up waiting. The waiting area almost seems designed to be as uncomfortable as possible to discourage people waiting for tables. They didn't offer to take our name so we could leave and get a drink somewhere else while we waited which would have been nice. When we were finally sat (about 20 minutes past their estimated wait), the restaurant was no where near full so I'm not sure why we waited so long for a table.
The in-dinner service also felt lacking, where several times our server noticed we could use something, verbally acknowledged we needed that thing, and then never returned with that thing.
We were sat at the bar and while it was neat to be able to see the food getting prepared it didn't feel like there was much energy in the kitchen. I'm not sure I'd recommend sitting at the bar unless you're really interested in the process.
Definitely a slow and methodical team of expert crafts folks that don't rush. Coincidentally the food ended up taking a little longer than we were expecting but was definitely worth the wait. All in all we ended up spending about 2 hours here, with the half hour wait.
Our favorite things were the Waygu bites as well as the Simba and Osaka rolls.

I am from California, and while the sushi portions are smaller than what I usually get on the coast, this is by far the best sushi restaurant I have been to in Omaha. They are professional and the fish is fresh. I have been a few times and will always come back

Me and my husband come here quite regularly when we're both in town. It's like a requirement for us, so we've gotten to see it grow and follow with the menu as it changes around. I think the original vision has been lost a bit, but it's not bad in that regard at all. It's just different than what it used to be.
My husband and I used to favor going here for their rolls, and to an extent we still do. Though their rolls are getting increasingly more hip and starting to lose any identity as sushi. This is also reflected in their large offering of small plates and the like, all of which are wonderful.
I think Yoshitomo is an extremely inviting sushi restaurant for beginners in this regard, because it's identity as a sushi restaurant keeps shifting. I'm excited to continue watching this growth.

Omaha harbors several “claims to fame”, and Yoshitomo is proudly one of them. This restaurant is not just a place to enjoy authentic Japanese creations, but hosts a wonderful culinary experience. Our server (the gentleman training a new server; forgot his name) went above and beyond for our special occasion. You can surely trust his menu recommendations and he can help you find what you’re looking for/take you out of your comfort zone.
Highly recommend the bar seating since you have the opportunity to see how much effort and expertise goes into the creations. The wine and sake list is expansive, with some being difficult finds in general. The fish and meats are hand cut and fresh. Overall, this restaurant is a gem: from the food to the staff to the owner himself.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, stunning decor with wooden walls, pops of red, and rope lights. We made a reservation which is recommended as the site informs you to allow an hour and a half to two hours for your meal. This is because it is an experience and the food is art. Everything we ordered was bursting with amazing flavors and colors, with each bite we took we fell in love with these amazing dishes. The Matcha tea was just what I needed to warm up on this cold January evening. It was so flavorful I enjoyed two cups full. My husband and I both agree this meal was one of the best we have had. We will definitely be returning for another delectable meal.

The food is like no other! The service and atmosphere are both wonderful. This was only my second time dining at Yoshitomo and I was able to try all "new to me" items from the menu and they were all exquisite. I might not have tried the oni egg if I had not heard such good things about it but so glad we did. It was the fanciest and most delicious deviled egg ever! And that was only the beginning of our dining experience. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The flavors are powerful and the presentation is sophisticated and so very aesthetically pleasing. I'm looking forward to my next adventure at Yoshitomo whenever that may be.

This restaurant was recommended by an out of state friend after reading an article about it in the Washington Post.
It's good for Omaha, and actually kinda amazing that they can get such good quality fish in the middle of the big, flat, few and far between prairie. However, after reading the article in the Post, I was expecting more vibrant flavors that celebrated the rare-to-find-in-Nebraska fishes.
The flavors are best described as "gentle" and "clean" but veer very easily towards bland. While there weren't any off or fishy flavors that might need hiding under spices and sauces, the fish wasn't so fresh to be bursting with flavor enough just on its own.
You can see the creativity of the chef in reading the menu, with exciting sounding combinations and novel ingredients. There is too much cooked fish on the menu, but that's understandable for raw fish averse Nebraska. It's just nothing actually comes out tasting all that memorable despite all the effort.
I don't recommend it unless you really need a certain fish fix that can only be found here.

I love Yoshitomo, I got referred by one of my coworker and I was excited to go with my anniversary. Upon arrived, everyone was super nice except my server. When she handed me the drink menu, I told my partner I forget my ID so might not want a drink but then she started to show attitude. She doesnt even bother to care to ask if I want anything beside water. She left us about 5-7 mins before come check us again after I had to ask the women in floral shirt- might be the manager. She came back and getting started with the appetizer. She asked what do I want which made me confused because she started to showing attitude. As a fellow employer who working in a retail/customer focused industry I thought that should treat customers right but I distracted myself and thought that she had a bad day. Then I asked is bites shareable and she said ‘2 pieces’ yup. That is what she said 2 pieces without saying anything else. I already feel uncomfortable because maybe she looked at us like not a big tip since we look like students. Then I ignored and just gonna order hope that she might catch herself back after a moment. She left and 5 mins later she brought out the octopus chili and if I wasnt the one order I wouldnt know what is the name of the dish that she didnt bother to tell my partner. I got started with my sushi order and my partner and during the order I asked her what was her favorite and she said the spicy tuna with pineapple sauce on top. No explanation no nothing after. I feel like my table was her inconvenience to served. Up until this point I thought she still having a bad moment and then she never checked on us beside the floral shirt woman and other servers came to fill out the water and she came ONCE to fill out the water and she saw our cup was full so she left immediately. I saw another table came in with 2 couples and she was the server. Surprisingly she was so talkative to that table and she be like haha, bla bla bla and even care to explain everything like from the drink menu to salad, bites, plates. That time when I realized she didnt care about our table because we look like we are students and won’t have big tips for her. Today is my anniversary with my partner and I tried not to feel sad or annoy but today was the first and maybe the last one since all I try to do was having fun with my partner. I like the ambience I like the food but the server was the biggest disappointment since this restaurant should be consider upper middle class restaurant. I could choose blue and I been there multiple times and even I ordered just edamame the server still be joyful to served us. I hate to complain but today is one of our big anniversary and I waited a whole day just to be disappointed. Mind you I still left with 20% tip because I know servers are hard .

Everything was pretty good this time (Winter 2023). I'm wondering if there is something different than pre-COVID. I remember it was pretty incredible that time and I claimed it was my favorite in Omaha. Four stars across the board considering the price point. Not sure if the fish actually stood out to me like last time. The service was ok but my wife and I sat with empty plates and/or drinks for a few 15 minute periods and the server was not in the dining room. Still up there however for good sushi in Omaha.

I wasn't a fan of the options for sushi. I feel like there wasnt enough options for raw fish that weren't just a La carte.
The ume hirame was delicious. You can definitely tell that this is an opinionated sushi restaurant. You are supposed to enjoy each dish as the chef intended, which is why I didn't get soy sauce.
I just think it's overpriced for what you get though.

This is a destination spot in Benson. I take that back. You’ll have difficulty deciding what is better than the other, the absolute incredible freshness and flavor profiles of the food or the amazingly knowledgeable staff that is truly genuine! This is not just a Benson destination spot, this is a Nebraska destination spot💯.
A special thanks to our amazing service provided from Joe and the staff!
~beyond well done!

“Starter”: Seaweed salad- very well balanced flavor but mostly radish filler.
“Bite”: Hama Toast- best of the night. Yellowtail like butter and the sourdough toast was crunchy outside and chewy inside. Good.
“Bite”: Smoked Hotate- Scallop- Overly fishy which overpowered any other flavor. Not good at all tbh.
“Plate”: Kinoko- Mushroom shoyu. Delicately flavored. Very well prepared.
Makimono: Kumo- All we could taste was curry flavor. Drenched in an overpowering and mediocre sauce.
Makimono: Saigon- All lettuce. Peeled apart last of the roll and the shrimp tempura was pure breading.
$100 before tip. Not worth the ticket.

Honestly the worst sushi place I've ever been too. Waited 40 mins for 3 sushi rolls on my lunch break. Tasted just like any other sushi place

Wow, what an amazing experience. We ate at the sushi bar. Was so interesting watching the dishes being prepared. The aburi wagyu was fantastic, melts in your mouth and such complex flavors. The sushi was top notch very fresh tasting and everything was perfectly portioned that each chew brought on new taste. Can’t wait to go back. Service was fantastic and a great ambiance.
