Not sure if it's because we went for the Monday $8 ramen or if it's always like this, but this was some of the worst ramen I've ever had. I chose the Tori & pulled chicken option and it came with what seemed like boiled and unseasoned chicken, soggy/mushy noodles, and the blandest broth - had to add a bunch of soy sauce just to make it somewhat palatable. Disappointed is an understatement and it was not an enjoyable meal. The staff was nice and had no issues there, but the quality of the food left much to be desired. I wouldn't come here for the ramen again, even at the discounted price.

Food is very below average and this junk was floating in my water glass this evening. Unfortunately, I noticed after drinking most of the water. 🤢 We will not be returning and I can not advise anyone to eat here based on my experience.

The restaurant had three people working there on a Saturday night. The server took our order and one of our appetizers came out with our entrees and the other didn't. We ordered sake and that didn't show up either when our food arrived. Our waitress was not around to ask for anything. By the time we finished eating in about 40 mins, we still hadn't gotten the sake or the wings we ordered. We asked for the check only and after we asked the check did the waitress bring an open bottle of sake with two cups. I just told her to pack it up since she made clear she opened it already and the chicken wings showed up conveniently as well and had her pack that up too. Had to wait about 15 more mins for the onigiris. When we signed for the check, the waitress gave me a mechanical pencil and then proceeded to use the back of it to take down the order of another table. Overall very disappointed experience. Will return until the staffing resolved.

The rice was overpowering and made everything taste like vinegar rice. They don't have hot tea apparently. The table was sticky when we sat down. The sake cups were sticky when we got them. The staff was friendly, but slow, inattentive, and didn't communicate. I was here a long time ago and it was mediocre then, but it's gotten worse.

Love this place and their food. Feels like an authentic experience, the food is delicious and service is fast. Went in for a super fast lunch break, was able to be in and out while dining inside. I even had time to spare once returning to work. Spam Musubi makes for a simple, fast and tasty lunch 💜

Slow service and mediocre food in a dingy restaurant. They no longer serve yakitori, either. We had the curry, yellowtail collar, tempura, and sushi. While the curry was good, the chicken katsu with it was tough and the biggest chunk of meat in the yellowtail collar was undercooked. The tempura was fine. I didn't try the sushi. The service was not prompt and the server didn't communicate very well but didn't make any mistakes. The decor is looks dated and worn, lighting is dark, and it feels like a hole-in-the-wall without the quality to make up for it.

This dated sushi spot is getting rough around the edges… it is not well kept, and the sushi was below average. Our server was friendly, but not helpful, not fast, and easily confused by basic questions. Our Roll was OK, but the Nigiri was not edible because it was not sushi grade tuna or salmon. Bummer. I was generally disappointed. On the positive side, it has a nice little outdoor patio, which is rare for sushi spot. I would also say the prices were reasonable and parking was easy, but for the food, I probably would not return.

I've been here about 5 times over the years, and it's always just okay. One time we tried to go and even though it was the middle of the day and online it said they were open, they were closed with no sign on the door or anything. There's few tables, but the servers don't come around much, and they don't seem particularly happy to help. The food is fine, but I've had much better at other Japanese restaurants around STL.

Today I recommended Robata as I always do to friends and family because the food is usually correct and tasty. I just spent 40 dollars there yesterday. However when my sister went today she was on the phone with me as she placed my order. She repeated verbatim what I said which was Tonkatsu Ramen and steamed pork dumplings. When she brought my food to my office I noticed it was not what I ordered. I took it back to Robata and told the heffa at the window, ( I was nice originally until she snatched the receipt out of my hand) Anyway I said this isn't Tonkatsu Ramen and the dumplings are fried. Ironically she must have remembered my sister because she immediately said that's Katsu Ramen and Gyoza. I said it's not what I ordered that's what I just said. She said this is what she ordered. I said no it's not I was on the phone when she was placing the order and she repeated exactly what I said, Tonkatsu Ramen and steamed pork dumplings. The lady said I pointed at this and this on the menu and asked her if that was what she wanted and she said yes. What she, the employee pointed to was Katsu Ramen and Gyoza. I asked her why would she point to anything when she clearly told you what she wanted? Her only dispute was " I pointed at this and this and asked her did she want that and she said yes. I again asked, why would you point to ur menu when she verbally told you what she wanted? I called my sister and asked her and she confirmed after she said what I wanted the lady was trying to point at things in the menu but she never said yes to anything, she had already ordered the Tonkatsu and pork dumplings. At this point the employee said I'll remake it this time and she walked away aggressively rolling her eyes. Then she returned to the window and asked for the receipt, as I passed it to her she snatched it out of my hand which is when my attitude changed. She disappeared for 10 minutes and then came back with the food. As she held the bag out of the window I said thank you and she slammed the drive thru window in my face. I have literally sent numerous people there. My daughter is a regular and my son is too. I work nearby so I often grab my lunch from there when I'm in the mood for ramen. Again, I spent $40 yesterday at Robata for lunch. The employee disposition and attitude along with not taking accountability for messing up the order has resulted in me no longer going to their business and I'm going to spread the word to all of the people I've sent there to not patronize Robata anymore. We'll give yummi yummi our business from now on. And as I sit here doing this review I'm going to throw the food in the trash because my mom taught me a long time ago, when you return something and they have a attitude about it, get ur money back don't accept replacement food because you don't know what they'll do to it or put in it. And yes, her attitude was that bad over a $20 order. Now you'll lose much more money from me and my people going somewhere else for ramen and good customer service.

When we ordered salmon we were asked if smoked salmon would be OK on our nigiri as the owner was out buying fish at 6pm on Sunday evening (Schnucks?),and hadn't arrived yet with the salmon. Tuna nigiri was inedible. Dry and smelled off. Ramen broth seemed to have a bouillon base and was incredibly salty. Extremely disappointed in everything about the meal.

Seaweed salad tasted like soggy dead fish and the sushi rolls were 90% rice, 5% avocado, and the remaining was what might be considered fish. I was skeptical starting with the salad and that we were the only people there on the weekend, but then when our sushi arrived at the table it looked more pathetic than options at the gas station.
We sat there trying each piece in case the taste was better than how it looked, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case either.
The server didn’t come back to check on us, and had nothing to say when I told her all the food was not good, so I asked for the check, sadly paid in full, and left a table with full plates of sour rolls.

My boyfriend got the hot Ramen, which he loved. I’m not sure how to spell the ones that we got but it was one of the ones at the bottom of the menu for $11.95. It was not very good at all. The broth was very watery little to not taste. They said on the menu that they offer two different kinds of noodle, but I think they ran out or something. They only had the regular noodles. They did offer quite a bit of additions to your Ramen for extra cost of course. Overall, in my opinion, the price( $15 for mine and my mothers, 14 for my boyfriend’s) did not match the quality of the food whatsoever. It was very Bland and meats were overcooked. Our server was nice, though we only saw her twice while we were there, and we were the only ones in there for about an hour. If I were you, I would just take the small commute to zushi sushi and Ramon, on Watson. Most of their options are $11 and they are Delicious!!

The food at Robata is fantastic —honestly some of the best food in STL. I always forget to eat here and then I do and am always so happy. Last night I had the age dashi tofu and it was complex and beautiful and crispy and light and everything I wanted a bite of food to be. We also ordered some sushi rolls and I was delighted with the 7 samurais and the STL roll. We also ordered the lobster roll and the lobster was unfortunately slightly overcooked but that was the only complaint with the entire meal. It’s a small space but we sat at the street side bar and got to do a little people watching while we ate. Delightful, delightful experience!

Tried this spot for the first time today, and I will not be back. Ordered Ramen and sushi. The ramen presented nicely, but the broth was very bland, and pork was mostly fat. The sushi was worse. The spicy tuna was gray/black, and was a hunk of tuna instead of normal spicy tuna rolls which are ground up and bright red. Also, of course the wasabi was the cheap fake stuff, not real wasabi. I could go on more about each item we ordered, but I think my point is already across.

The only place in town that has onigiri (rice balls)! I love their baked salmon onigiri, pork gyoza, and Tonkotsu ramen.

They serve ramen, sushi, many authentic Japanese dishes and they have a ton of fun and creative appetizers. They have a sake happy hour special each week and Monday nights they serve $8 ramen (dine-in only). You get a choice of 3 of their different ramens to choose from: Tori (chicken broth) Tonkotsu (pork broth), and a vegetarian option.

It's a small cafe with a few half booth/half chair tables, some bar seats and plenty of outdoor tables. They are currently only open at night around 5pm onwards; no lunch service. They have a parking lot, so no off-street parking necessary.

I highly recommend them! They also have takeout, but currently aren't using any services. You have to go there to pick up. One Piece is usually always on at the bar while you wait.

It took 30 minutes to get our order taken and another hour to get our food. It was not very crowded, especially when we got there, so I wondered what the problem was. The waitress was running around doing parts of several things at once. When we finally got our food, some of it was missing and the Sushi fell apart. We were with our kids so I wasn't going to say anything about the missed seaweed salad but she brought it as we were finishing. $100 bucks and 2 hours later, we ended up missing what we went to Maplewood for.

Get the Ramen, forget the sushi. I’ve gone to Robata a couple times for lunch and love their noodles, but I went for dinner for the first time and had a really disappointing meal. My wife and I love sushi and went to get a nice dinner after work and ended up not eating the majority of our entrées. We went in around 8:45 which is about an hour before they close, and I feel like we just received the leftovers from the rest of the day. I was really looking forward to trying their fish (and hate waste), but we ended up throwing out an entire sushi roll and most of a Sashimi Dinner. Maybe try coming earlier in the day? You pay the same price and the quality may be better.

The appetizers, miso soup, and dumplings are good (we got extra miso soup). The Ramen is great and the broth is deliciously savory. Stick to them. The sushi rolls and sashimi are some of the worst i’ve had. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

I hate doing this but unfortunately from my past experience I have to make a negative review. I ordered the “hot/ spicy” ramen and upon picking it up, it was cold. When I say cold, I do not mean ice cold but lower than room temp.
They told me my ramen would be ready in 50 minutes but ended up taking 70 minutes, which would be totally fine if my food came out hot like the entree states.
When I called to inform the restaurant that my ramen was cold, they acted like it is normal for ramen to not be hot/ under room temp.
That is not only weird but also a form of gaslighting.
They gave me a new ramen within 10 minutes but it is funny that the new ramen came out scalding hot, which is what I wanted in the first place.
All and all the place is understaffed and clearly has a problem with criticism. Inconsistency and borderline poor customer service. I will never return

We have eaten at Robata multiple times. Most of our experiences have been delicious (4/5), but tonight was not one of those nights. I’m not sure if this was an off-night or if something has changed since we last visited, but our food was just bad.

Gyudon is my go-to at any Japanese restaurant, including past visits at Robata. What I ate tonight was not Gyudon. The flavor was awful (no sweetness at all), the texture of the meat was mushy, the smell was off. I only ate a few bites before I had to stop because something was clearly wrong. I’m hoping this batch of marinade was just mixed incorrectly and the meat was just broken down too much, but my stomach has not been happy since we left. Along with the off-putting flavor and meat, there also weren’t any slices of onion like there’s meant to be in a solid bowl of Gyudon.

My husband had the Tonkotsu ramen and said the broth was super bland, which was also surprising since we’ve had great ramen here before. He tried to eat my gyudon after because we hate wasting food, but he couldn’t do more than a couple bites either.

All that said, the pork gyoza were fantastic, so at least there’s that!

Personally, I absolutely love the tori ramen here! Members of my family also like the sushi, kara age, and curry fries. There's a little something for everyone of us picky eaters!

Fantastic customer service. The food was outstanding. I had the seafood pyramid. I highly recommend it. I also had some sushi rolls. I had a great time here.

First time to Robata and it was great! We ordered two sushi rolls, raman, and gyu don (a rice bowl with beef). They were all so delicious! Our waitress was very attentive and had good food suggestions. Can't wait to come back and try other menu items! The place is small and quaint so if you have a larger party, I would recommend calling ahead.

My favorite takeout food. You always feel like you've had a real meal. A few appetizers and a sushi roll or two is my go to! Surprisingly easy on the wallet.

We were served dirty plates. The gyoza were subpar. They were missing items from the menu. The spicy tuna roll was decent but the ramen and udon broth was somehow flavorless and oversalted at the same time. Honestly, I had really been excited about trying this place but it was an incredible let down. I want to see if the gyudon is any good but I don’t think I’ll come back.

Ordered Takoyaki and Spicy Cod Roe Onigiri for take-out with some friends. Takoyaki was extremely overcooked. Octopus was so rubbery it "bounced" out of my mouth. It was also very greasy as if it had been frozen then deep fried.
The onigiri barely had any filling. Maybe a teaspoon or less of cod roe. The cod roe filling was actually very tasty and well seasoned, which is why it was so sad to get very little of it. The rice had a good texture as well.
I hate writing bad reviews, but this sadly has to be one of them. Wishing the best for Robata and a better experience next time.

Absolutely awful service. First, their online ordering system drops one of my ramen orders. Both of my ramen orders appeared in the cart when I paid, but the confirmation email contained only one ramen order. Sure, maybe I should have checked, but it's 2021 and this shouldn't happen.

Second, I added toppings that they ran out of. When they called to say they were out, I asked if I could just leave it off the order and they said yes. Guess what they failed to mention? They were still going to charge me for it! They took my money for nothing in return.

Finally, and the reason they're earning 1 star, is that when I asked the girl at the window for the rest of the order, when I asked her about the fact the receipt still showed me paying for toppings that they didn't include, she shrugged it off and said she couldn't do anything and turned away. This is a business that views their customers as inconveniences and I can never recommend them.

I used to consider Robata my go-to sushi place, but I have been pretty disappointed the last few times I have gotten it. I’ll order a roll without a certain topping, but then multiple toppings are left off. Tonight, the rolls were made with so much rice to the point where there was also a ton of rice wrapped up inside the roll. Some of the rolls also weren’t closed completely and just fell apart when we tried to pick them up. Hopefully they can improve, because the prices are good, but the sushi used to be much better.

I usually get good food from robata. Tonight was not good. I ordered wings and hot Raman. When I got my food the broth for my Raman was cold. Which means they made my Raman in 5 min and set it to the side to get cold. When I called to complain the server told me to warm it. Thats your only job. To make sure I get hot food. I paid 15 bucks for cold Raman.

I'll give 2 stars for the friendly customer service that our waitress Lala displayed but the food was awful! My friend and I first tried a Ramen bowl which was bland AF! Then we decided to try the sushi and it was extremely disgusting! The rolls were filled with rice with barley any other content and poorly constructed. What a waste!

I've been here twice, very good ramen and sushi! I prefer the regular noodles...thick ones are too thick. All the ingredients taste very fresh. This will be one of my go-to places for Japanese food in Maplewood.

I ordered nearly $80 dollars worth of sushi to go, and it was horrible. All of the rice in the rolls was overpowered with vinegar and the lump crabmeat also tasted off (or out of a can). They didn't offer to remake my order, to give a refund, or even a discount. The food was inedible. I won't be back.

My first impression is a place that works hard to reach its customers. After ordering from here multiple times, the service seems to take longer and longer, although still very nice. The sushi is a bit on the smaller side and, though this may sound strange, I kinda wish the California Rolls were less refined and more blended with cream cheese. The ramen is tasty but each time I look at ordering, it's along with another tab that is open from another place nearby.

I've eaten here a handful of times, before and during covid. The first time I ate here, their ramen was excellent. The next time I ate here, some months later, the ramen was terrible and I was planning on never coming back. A friend mentioned that their sushi was much better (they do have a good menu for vegetarian sushi), and so I've ordered their sushi at every subsequent visit.

Their sushi is great (not that I'm an expert) , but since covid began, they've moved their ordering system online. This is not a problem on its own. The problem is that you cannot order until they open, which is 5pm and they don't give you an ETA until you pay.

The last time we placed an order, the website said 50 minutes, and as I was passing through Maplewood, I didn't really want to wait that long, so we called to cancel, but the woman inside swore that it would only be 30. It ended up being longer than the originally quoted 50 minutes.

I went to pick up a take out order yesterday night. I was shocked to see no one working in the restaurant was wearing PPE. Cooks were not wearing masks or gloves. Hostess had one that she wore during our exchange, but that’s it. I got my money back.

My first time doing business with this place was on Saturday 7/11/2020. The food was fresh and made to order; however, I feel that what you pay for the dishes is not equivalent in size. The sushi rolls were small and I felt cheated out of the fried mushrooms. I'm not sure if I would patronize this establishment again or reccomend them to friends. Unless portion sizes increase I don't think so. Customer service was great and the food was fresh, but portion sizes are inadequate!!

This sushi 🍣 place is phenomenal! We go here all the time. The saki is great, the apps are good and the sushi has a ton of variety. Not to mention the added ramen 🍜 options and all of the customizable toppings that come with it. Probably my favorite part though is that it’s about the cheapest sushi place we go to eat!
Great selection always!

anybody who says this Ramen is good doesn't know anything about Ramen. like im so sad for real. this place used to be good when it first opened but the last two years has been a disaster. I feel sad for the people that dont know better and while I hate to see restaurants close and businesses fail this place this major attention to ensure it survives. The best ramen in town is Nudo House. PLease management team save this place.
