We dined here for our anniversary and found it to be just ok.
We found the prices to be slightly too high compared to the quality of the sushi and other food. We didn’t have any bad food, we just weren’t blown away by any of our dishes.
Our server was nice but we only saw her a couple times throughout the night.
Overall, we will probably explore other options in White Bear Lake before returning to Mizu.

Lovely, beautiful views and super excellent staff! Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We have traveled the world and experienced a lot of 5 star restaurants and this one is top notch! The pomp and circumstance are not our thing. Great cuisine is…. Thanks Mizu we found our favorite Japanese restaurant right here is WBLK! You continue to amaze us with new dishes each time we visit. Thank you for your continued creativity!

I was just there tonight for my daughters birthday. Everyone from the manager to the servers were wonderfully friendly while somehow simultaneously providing a more formal experience.
What a gem.
The food was very good. I liked the pickled dish so much I ordered a second just for myself. Everything else was just very very good. I will be going back.

Delicious! Great location and wonderful atmosphere.
When it is nice out, the patio is so nice and it's fun to watch all the boats. Surprisingly, the uni quail egg spoon was really good, first time having it. The a5 waygu was amazing! I also really enjoyed the white bear lake roll. The scorpion roll was also really good! Huge portion of soft shell crab with it too!
The cheesecake was yuzu caramel and is a little tart but good if you like that. It has really nice thick whipped cream and edible glitter!
Our server was really nice and they have dealt solid crew that is really on top of bussing tables.
Would go again!

Really cool and unique experience at a cool restaurant that overlooks White Bear Lake. I went here on New Year’s Eve with a friend and ordered a few different dishes, including nigiri and sashimi that I’ve never had before. I was pleasantly surprised and although it’s kinda spendy, it’s a cool place in a cool city to try when looking for somewhere new and different.

We usually stop by Mizu for drinks and sushi after visiting Acqua next door, and the experience is definitely worth trying. That said, Mizu stands out on its own as well.
While you'd be tempted to call this a sushi place, don't overlook the rest of the items on the menu. The sushi is great, don't get me wrong, but there's so much more. Their tonkotsu ramen broth is made in-house, warming, and served in just the right portion with noodles, soft boiled egg, and of course a nice slab of seared pork belly. At chef's suggestion I tried the tuna tataki which was incredibly tender and flavorful, with the ponzu and chili oil playing nicely against the richness of the fish. The pickle assortment is a fun appetizer to share with a small group, just watch the plum pit (as you will undoubtedly be reminded).
We always pick a spot at the bar to watch the chefs, which I highly recommend. They aren't overly chatty, being busy of course, but the occasional conversation can be had and they are always happy to make recommendations (which you would be wise to follow). Staff are quick to seat, refill drinks, and offer their own recommendations as well.
The feel of the room is both a contrast with and a complement to Acqua, definitely more of a relaxed environment while still enjoying the same low lighting. I'm a sucker for a front-row seat at the sushi bar, and could spend an hour just idly trying this or that and watching the chefs at work.
Finally, to echo a sentiment from my Acqua review: After we finished eating at Acqua last time, co-owner Daron called over to Mizu to tell them we were coming and we had a spot waiting for us maybe 45 seconds later. His attention to detail and service mindset are apparent.

The food is good, the service is awful. Maybe it would be better if the tip wasn’t automatically included on the bill. We have been here at least 5 times, and 5 out of 5 times, the service had been a disaster.

The food took a long time to come out with the appetizers coming the same time as the main meal. They did not charge us for the appetizers because of the delay so that was a plus. The meats and seafood were overcooked with the noodles in the ramen stuck together. The service was ok as it was not busy. It took forever to get our check with the wrong charges and took several times before they got it right. The prices were not that bad. I don’t think I will be returning.

This place is a joke they charge 25% gratuities automatically. Tell me that from the beginning. You’re tipped based off your service. This isn’t Florida or cali the food ain’t no where good enough to be acting entitled

Gluten friendly menu options. However, please be very weary & ensure your server & the BOH understands your dietary needs & what it is you can & cannot have e.g. wheat, barley, malt, rye etc.
$26 bulgogi • marinated ribeye, white rice, mushroom, onion, soft poached eggs, kimchi, sesame seeds & sweet & spicy bulgogi sauce ⭐️⭐️
Mmhm the ribeye was overpowered by the rice doused in sauce. There’s one singular flavor note & that is salty. Textural wise, the bowl was mushy like on the flavor profile & palate. Wouldn’t get again.
$24 miso scallops • seared with miso butter, asparagus & lemon zest
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the flavor & quality. The asparagus & scallops were cooked beautifully & the flavor pairs so well together. The crisp freshness of the scallops with the buttery fleshy scallop is chef’s kiss. Absolutely love the ambiance too!
The price for two scallops though mmhm
$18 roasted yellowtail collar with kimchi & ponzu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Probably the best hamachi I’ve ever had. Fatty, salty, fresh, crispy skin too. Flavorful & yummy. Love it!
$25 yuzu poké bowl • bluefin tuna, yuzu tobiko, avocado, yuzu sauce, ponzu, chili oil, crispy onions & sesame ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A delicious refreshing & healthy bowl! The avocado was super fresh & the bluefin tuna tasted so smooth & buttery. I like the contrast of the tuna with the crispy onions. Very good, will return!
$24 Kappa Monster • blue crab, asparagus (I subbed for cucumber), radish sprout, shrimp, unagi, yum yum sauce, panko & scallion ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of my favorite rolls at Mizu
They’d definitely don’t skimp on the ingredients & everything is fresh. I have a big appetite so I don’t really get full with one roll, but, it is absolutely delicious.
I like that with every individual roll, I can taste all the ingredients & a lil soy sauce goes a long way. The textures work well together ending off with the crunch of (in my case) the cucumber. Very refreshing & yummy.
We were the last to leave this evening & watched as the whole team deep cleaned the sushi bar & the entire restaurant-Mizu really does pride in their ingredients & sanitation of their restaurant. Very impressive.
Matt is also the best, he’s our go to guy. Attentive, talented with the bar & personable. One of the best servers we’ve ever had!
$4/each fresh oysters with Yuzu Kosho mignonette ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Always very delicious. Simply topped with the mignonette. Always a go to in my book at Mizu. They are so tiny for $4/piece, but I can’t help it! They’re deliciously fresh & briny.

Went for our anniversary. Absolutely loved it. Servers were all personable and knew the menu. The sushi was great, my bourbon 7's were perfect. My wife had their Yuzu whiskey sour which she says was the best drink she's ever had (and we've been married 28 years). I knew going in I was going to need to stock up the checkbook. Zero buyers remorse. Will definitely return.

White Bear Lake is so fortunate to have Mizu in our city. All of their dishes are phenomenal and the sushi chefs are creative and skilled. Easily one of the best places for sushi in Minnesota. They offer a great setting right on the lake. They get extremely busy in the summers but the food is worth the wait. Any bad review here is unwarranted. Absolutely top notch - worth every penny. If you love sushi this will be your new favorite spot!

Probably the worst service i have, had in a while. We would have drank more fancy drinks if they had actually paid attention to us. We wanted to get desert but the waiter never offered and stopped by so infrequently that we figured it would be quicker to stop somewhere else for desert on the way home. And trust me it wasn't because it was Valentine's day. Several couples were being served much faster then us by our waiter. It seemed most of the other patrons were under 21 so i don't know if he thought ignoring us would make us order more sushi from the sushi bar or what. Anyways it didn't work in his favor. Because forcing people to order from the sushi bar was a bad plan in itself on such a busy night the chef "taking care" of us literally was heads down making white people rolls all night.

Great sushi and service! Only issue is that the chairs inside are SOOOO tiny they just aren't made for adults. Look great and would fit a child no problem, but as adults we were balancing ourselves on the edge of our chairs the whole meal. We are by no means huge people, pretty average size. It's a simple thing, but having to balance on chairs the entire evening really took away from the experience and made us not want to stay as long as we would have otherwise.

It’s always a special treat to ourselves to go to Mizu. We want everything on the menu! The staff seem to love their jobs, work as a team, are helpful with the menu and friendly. My only complaint about this restaurant is that the high top stool seats are absolutely tiny, which can make dining uncomfortable. Two top tables are small and close together so it doesn’t feel like there’s a good place to put your purse or coat.

Food was good but be careful because they include a 20% tip and don’t mention it verbally. We left our server a $80 dollar tip because she failed to mention it! She put a little star on the check right where she signed her name and put thank you where it mentions the pre-added tip. The paragraph is in such small type I could barreled read it once I was at home in a well lit room, not a chance I could have read it in a dark dining room. Not cool! Not cool at all!

I have been to this restaurant several times, and the service and food has been wonderful every time! We eat out a lot and we’re pretty picky. The staff has always been so friendly and attentive, and they have such a good understanding of everything on the menu, from the types of pickles for an appetizer, to how dry or sweet the sake is, and of course everything you need to know about sushi. We’ve always been very impressed with the food, and the wine selection is outstanding. I’m always so happy to see a wine list with wines from all over the world and not just entirely from California. 😉 I love that there’s a French sparkling wine by the glass, and great variety for both whites and reds. Also such a beautiful view of the lake, not many restaurants in town with such a close lake view. Highly recommend, this place is on point. We always enjoy coming back. 😊🙌🏼🥂

The food is not bad, but the service is disappointing. 40 minutes after we ordered, there’s no sign of food. None of our orders require cooking, and are standard rolls and sashimi which really shouldn’t take long. When we asked about the food after the long wait , the waitress said she’d check and within 5 minutes, three of the six dishes we ordered showed up. But there’s no apologies of the delay or missing the order. In the end, 20% of tips are automatically applied for a very disappointing service.

I enjoyed the sushi and drinks very much and would return for those!
The fried rice includes bacon and the bacon flavor overpowers the taste of anything else in the fried rice. It just tastes like bacon. I would not order that again. It’s a little cramped in the indoor dining but other than that it was good I would go back for the sushi and drinks!

Food and drinks are good, and the scallion we order that came with the samplers smelt very fishy. The price of the food was very expensive, especially with their 20% surcharge. There isn't anything I would come back for to try besides thier cocktails.

The food was overall good. Better than most sushi places (especially the specialty rolls) but overpriced for the quality in some areas (oysters, entrees). The servers were friendly and attentive. Even though food was ok and servers were nice, the overall service was very poor. The restaurant had too many guests and I felt the kitchen could not keep up with the orders. It took them over an hour to get out our appetizers (that we put in right away). And let me specify- over an hour to even get out edamame. Although our server did warn us sushi was a little behind, it still took 2 hours for our cooked food to come out. Everything came out at random times and we also had to wait on 2 of our rolls to come out after every was served. Overall, food is not worth the 2-3 hour wait time. I don’t believe the restaurant has enough capacity to prepare orders for the amount of guests they took in at the time (prime dinner hours). They’ll have guests waiting all night for their dinner.
Also in addition, some of the appetizers we ordered were unavailable because they ran out. We were there 2 hours after the restaurant just opened. It was also a let down from the beginning. We also had to cancel a couple dishes because they kitchen was “too behind” and our food came out at random times, 2 hours after initial order placement. Not worth the wait.

I suggested this spot for dinner with my partner for our anniversary. We were both excited for the food and view having passed it many times. It's a bit more expensive than our typical dinner out, so we'd waited for an occasion to visit. We'd been to Acqua and thought it was tasty and unique with great service and being the same ownership, expected something similar.
We were underwhelmed. It was pretty quiet for a Tuesday - we opted to sit inside because the patio/deck was pretty crowded. Our first shock was how uncomfortable the chairs inside were. We eventually got used to it, but I can't imagine anyone thinks the chairs are comfortable.
Service was pretty slow and there was no commentary on the menu.
We ended up ordering the bulgogi and the shrimp fried rice. A couple minutes later, we were told they didn't have enough rice for the bulgogi which seemed particularly strange for a Japanese restaurant. When we asked what was suggested as an alternative, the server went skipped over a few things saying "Oh wait that needs rice too" before suggesting the Yakisoba.
The food itself was pretty good but nothing outstanding. The Japanese buns were a bit dry as was the fried rice. The rolls (dynamite and spicy tuna) were good as was the yakisoba. I'm not sure if there is any desert offerings - if there are they weren't offered to us.
For the price, I don't think we'll be coming back here except maybe for happy hour.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a very long time. Our server did not come to us to take our orders for quite a long time. For awhile we didn’t know if he was our server or not. He even went as far as to actively avoid us and avoid eye contact with us. We watched as he would be very attentive to the people sitting in front and behind us but never would try and walk past my table. Instead would go completely around the restaurant to assist the tables in front of us and behind us just to avoid us. We spent 300 dollars here for 4 dishes so expected some quality in service and food but overall food was waaaaaay too expensive for what you get. You can get cheaper and better quality else where. At least the other workers who were cleaning tables were helpful. Without them we would have never been helped. At one point we asked for boxes and the check from our server once he finally came over to us. Then leaves for 30 min to never be seen again. A different worker cleaning our table showed up. She offered to get boxes and gave them to us within a minute. By the time our server came back again he had no boxes or a check as we kinda expected considering how horrible he was to us. he even still asked us if we were doing okay still. Which made no sense since we asked for boxes and the check 35 min prior now. He now checks his pockets for our check as if it will appear and then walked away to go get it “again”. Waited another 25 min while we watched him instead have long conversations with other people and avoid eye contact with us again. The place was filling and we wanted to go and make room for others so it started to become extremely awkward. It took more then an hour to get our check that we nearly just walked out without paying because clearly our money and time don’t matter. Will never ever go here again and wish we had spent the hour long wait in the car on the way to RH rooftop for a more high quality experience in both food and service for less. If you don’t care for how your food tastes then you will enjoy this place. If you care for food with unique flavors and seasonings, look else where. Anyone who says the food is amazing only eats meats and potatoes everyday and has never ventured out for unique and flavorful foods.

Mizu is a cozy, upscale restaurant with great sushi options, incredible staff, and a beautiful location on the shore of White Bear Lake.
The prices are a bit high, but that is understandable given the quality of the sushi. We had a variety of rolls and nigiri, including the special, as well as the miso soup (a baseline for me, which was delicious and helped set good expectations).
The food was excellent, fresh fish complimented well by flavorful and well-paired spices and vegetables. The rolls were expertly prepared, great consistency and balance.
The staff also graciously offered to make a mocktail for me, which was superb and greatly appreciated.
We would definitely come here again. 💙

And we were sitting at the sushi bar. And then we need and cash and part credit card. But the credit card was billed for the whole amount. Trying to get hold of them but they're closed on Mondays. I don't know if they were too busy or they forgot about us. The benefit of the doubt on the first time. Hopefully everything will be resolved and we can try it again

To put this review into context this was literally the worst dining experience I’ve ever had and I’ve eaten at hundreds of restaurants throughout my life. We arrived early and were seated promptly which was nice. It took 20 minutes for our waitress to come and take our order. After over an hour of waiting and one visit from our waitress we finally left after being told they had no idea when any food would be ready. No manager came to explain the issues. The staff were clearly overworked and checked out. The bar tender who brought the very mediocre sake flight was so drunk I could smell the booze on him more than my drink and I could barely understand his slurred description of the flight. Honestly the owners need to evaluate how they’re running this establishment.

The atmosphere is modern and elegant
They have nice patio to enjoy your food and drinks
My favorite drink was the Koi which uses Cachasa I am sure this is not how you pronounce it but regardless is the same liquor in Caipirinha so it tastes just like one with some Japanese twist
Also do highly recommend the sampler platter which has oyster 🦪 with caviar , otoro , Wagyu A5 and Uni or sea urchin spoon with ponzu sauce extremely delicious 🤤.
The plum wine was beautiful and delicious , I do believe a full meal will drinks for 2 will run you you at least $200
But def worth it

The food was excellent! By far the best fried rice I have ever had. The scallop appetizer was so good I was tempted to order another. The wait staff were top notch. The kitchen however was terribly slow. Management offset that on the bill which I found only fitting. Had it not been for the issue with the kitchen I would have gladly given 5 stars.

Spectacular food only exceeded by the service of its staff. After arriving in the hour prior to close I thought it best to order to go. When I had mentioned that I was very hungry, Tonya asked if I’d like to sit and enjoy my food in house well after placing my order. I said that they close in a few minutes and I was assured that it was fine. Even pointed out that the house was full as that as long as guests were arriving, they would stay open. As a manager I cannot express enough how much I loved to hear that. It’s small moments like that, that make a difference in the service industry.
Excellent atmosphere, fantastic food, amazing service.

The best sushi I ever had!! Every bite, we rolled our eyes in delight! Can't wait to sit out on their patio this summer!

The seating was uncomfortable; otherwise, great food and service. Would definitely recommend.

wow this place was the BEST japanese in all of Minnesota and ive been to almost all the places in the twin cities. The sushi was fantastic and reasonably priced. The California roll uses REAL CRAB! The seafood ramen came with scallops and was 20 with like tons of shrimp it was delicious. The staff was top notch super friendly. We went here for our 6 year anniversary 1st time visitors but where treated like their best regulars. It was probably the best dinning experience I've ever had and will be making this place a monthly stop and recommend to everyone I know.

Tried to call and place an order. They wouldn't take the order over the phone, told us we had to order on the website... website says they charge 20% for "service"... ironic when they just asked us to perform the "service" of taking the order ourselves. My wife and I were both in the service industry and this makes no sense to us. Just raise your prices, don't try to trick us by hiding a line item.
The restaurant itself is a bit pricey but above decent sushi, although service is slow. Every togo order we've picked up has been delayed. The first time they gave us a bottle of wine to make up for it which was nice. That bought some good will for a while so we continued to patronize. More recently, we ordered an appetizer while dining in, which never came. They didn't even notice the mistake and when we mentioned it they offered nothing but a "sorry".
Our opinion is that you can charge a premium for good service/quality, and we specifically are happy to pay that, but you need to deliver consistently(and you shouldn't hide that charge, it's disrespectful and insulting).
So after all this, we closed their website without placing the order and decided that we've probably had our last dinner here, already.

Try the "lady in the water" roll.

Very clean, high-end sushi spot in White Bear Lake. Rivals others for quality and presentation. Great selection of Japanese whiskeys, highly recommend the whiskey flight for those wanting to try a variety of options. Hamachi is a must try appetizer that will wow any guest. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable in the event of rapid-fire questions you may have. I don't quite know how to summarize their menu other than to say it is extensive yet condensed. 100% will be back to try other items on their menu!

I've been here a few times and i always get the same thing and it's always great and i love it, but i will say it does seem like the wait staff doesn't care about the time it takes for the chefs to make the food and they get over whelmed. the wait staff is really slow if you are not at the bar. the seating is really uncomfortable. but overall its a very nice place to eat and will come back again.

Isaac was amazing. He was very personable and explained everything very well. I have not had service that good in a long time. By the way food and drinks was spot on. We will be back.

We arrived at 7:20 on a Saturday night. It was about 1/4 full with several wait staff. We were asked if we had a reservation, which we did not but it was obvious there were several tables and open spots at the bar. We were turned away. I understand the lack of staff at some establishments so they need to limit the customers. It was very obvious they had plenty of staff and plenty of space. Will never go back! We drove 40 minutes to get there.

Food is good but the staff’s attitudes need some improving. Our waiter was very arrogant and rude to us by snatching away completed dishes without asking and snapping the receipt booklet closed very loudly. I do not recommend coming here.
EDIT: I am increasing my rating to 3 stars for the owners prompt response and sincere apology for the staffs attitudes. Food was good but again, attitudes need improving.

We brought our daughter to Mizu to celebrate her 11th birthday and had a fabulous experience. All the food was fresh and it was apparent a great deal of thought and detail went into each dish. We plan on returning to enjoy the beautiful outdoor space. The A5 waygu steak was to die for. Thank you!

Service was horendus. If you don't fit the Mif and Buffy mold you will not get Service. Very disappointed with service as they were not busy.. With all the social media inclusiveness this place falls short. We were sad to feel so ignored as we have enjoyed this establishment in the past

My date and I were here about 3 weeks ago. The date was going nicely, until we got here. Let me explain. We ordered a couple regular maki rolls, a premium roll costing around $25 and the seaweed salad and edamame.
The two rolls were classics, spicy tuna and a crunchy roll. I have never tasted sushi this fishy and it was not fresh. The seaweed had an off taste to it. Most likely, these three dishes were not fresh and we arrived towards sunset when the crowd was dying down. The edamame and the $25 roll were the only fresh food with no weird fishy or off taste.
For what we paid, I'm not happy and not coming back. The waitress was fine. She does a good job checking in. But our stomachs did not do a good job digesting this food. Sorry this review isn't living up to the hype of the restaurant, but you guys should step up your culinary game to stay relevant amongst hundreds of other sushi places here in MN.

Food was good although I've had better. I'd give that a 4.5 or of 5. My concern was only the service. A male server assisted on seating us. Whether we weren't up to his standards, we were treated a little different. He never came back to our table. Instead a couple came after and he was assisting them the whole time. A gal had to take our order. Never did she introduce herself but she was kind so no issues there. As much as I love sushi, I wouldn't care much to come back.

Great spot on white bear lake! Great atmosphere and the sushi and drinks were amazing!! Loved the creative cocktails!! The sushi we had has all been amazing! Great spot! Recommend reservations!!

Spicy tuna was just a solid junk of tuna with a little sriracha on one side. Depending on how you took a bite, only one side of your mouth would feel the heat. The spicy salmon was similar except the sauce was on top. A little more balanced but there was so much sauce that I couldn't taste the fish. Considering the price, my expectations were higher, especially for a simple roll like spicy tuna and spicy salmon. With all that, the reason I still gave them a 3, the miso soup was AMAZING!!
