Flamin thai across from surdyks liquor store
The foods here is so gooood. I have tried almost every Thai restaurant in MN and have been disappointed. But, Flamin Thai really hit it for me. The flavors, the spice, the presentation and the varieties of dishes was really good. I especially love their curry, it is exactly what I like, sweet, creamy, and the varieties of veggies. I really appreciate that the spice level is actually up there and not simmer down.
I think that the prices is pretty reasonable and the portion size is actually good. My party of three, we did family style and this was a lot of foods for us. The drinks are also really good too. I like myself a drink with a good balance of not too strong and not too sweet.
Parking was also great, I always appreciate when a restaurant is near parking ramp.

This was a great experience overall. We got the pop stickers , beef salad with side sticky rice and chili sauce and California roll . We couldn’t order drinks because we were early and the bartender hadn’t got there but the waiter who was just delightful offered wine and that was just fine. The beef salad was delicious, my friend who has a lot of food allergies really enjoyed it with the rice. The waiter was very accommodating as well which was top tier for us some places get annoyed but he went out of his way to make sure that everything was just perfect for her . The California roll was super good. The atmosphere was really nice, the space is picture worthy. Now my only concern or issue I had was the whole place was empty but the waiter started to put everyone together like directly next to each other. This is a small venue so it got “crowded” pretty quick just being so close. There was room to spread out some so as people come in the table next to them would be leaving to give them space. If that makes sense but not a huge deal overall.
Parking is a little annoying , there is a parking ramp right next the the building or street parking

We are here over the weekend if September 28, 2024 for my birthday. It was recommended by a local. We were treated like royalty up at the Sushi bar. Chef J T was amazing! The pot stickers, sushi and pad Thai were top notch! We even got a delicious birthday dessert! Highly recommend to anyone, local or traveler! You will not be disappointed!

This place was phenomenal! We couldn’t decide what we wanted, so we got a little of everything. The Lao beef jerky and sausage are spot on! When I asked our server where they sourced it from (I have a friend who makes Lao sausage commercially), our server, Henry, pointed to the kitchen and said “grandma makes it,” which delighted me. The dipping sauces were delicious, potent, and clearly scratch-made. Our next course was nigiri, which had generous portions of fish. The rice could’ve been packed a little more tightly together, which is my only feedback for the entire meal. Then, we split the holy basil stir fry with fried tofu. It was also fabulous! The final thing we had was mango sticky rice. The rice had a hit of matcha! Overall, they nailed 3 different types of Asian cuisine. The atmosphere was fabulous, and the staff very friendly. (A note on price, we could’ve spent less if we had wanted but decided to try it all instead).

This was a back up plan. Service is fast and friendly. Food comes out fresh and hot, but... The Vegetable Rainbow Medley was mostly onion with 3 pieces of broccoli, 3 or 4 pieces of bell pepper, a few pieces of undercooked cabbage (was supposed to be carrots), a couple of mushrooms, and tofu add-on which was, again, only a few bites. It was an unbelievable amount of onion and it kind of ruined the dish for me. The cost was not worth it.

First visit to this Thai/Sushi restaurant and we really enjoyed it. Our lunchtime experience will bring us back to sample more of the menu. Fresh Spring Rolls were obviously made to order - so much better than those typically made in advance. Pad Thai and Holy Basil stir fry were savory. The lunch menu is a good value and has many options. Service was great - seemed sincerely interested in our experience and satisfaction.

Food is a HUGE hit or miss!
Good:
-Laab duck
-Duck curry (real duck)
-sticky rice
Mid things:
-chicken kapoon (not a lot of noodles and they were broken up, which sucked but it was overall flavorful)
-Thai hooker drink
-lychee contract drink
-lychee martini
*downside is that drinks are expensive but do not taste on par with price
Disappointing:
-pad see ew beef: broccoli was under cooked and flavor was good for the few bites that had any. It was mostly bland.
-Khao Piak Sen Soup: straight udon noodles and soup..not homemade noodles and the broth should be thick but this one was completely watery
-Crying tiger steak: THE WORST!!! They didn’t ask how we wanted it cooked so they made it well done, no “special” rub was on it or if there was, you could not taste any seasoning at all!! Low quality cut steak too! For $22 it’s like eating leather
-Papaya Laos style was not balanced! Really strong fermented taste that overpowered everything else and it was not made with any mango
- Server didn’t ask for desired spice level on any dishes other than the laab and papaya salad either so overall it made everything more bland
Nice looking on the inside but would not come back because of the food for that price

I have ordered the massaman curry SO many times from this place being told by multiple employees that it was vegan, and then I just found out today that they ALWAYS put shrimp in the curry paste and that none of the curry is vegan. If you are vegan or have a seafood allergy this place is not safe.

The people and service were amazing. The duck larb was probably one of the best Lao/Thai dishes I’ve ever had. 1000000% coming back for that. They said their spice scale is 1-3, but if you can swing it ask for a little higher 😀.

The food was just OK. They were understaffed so the poor bartender was doing his job and serving tables. The order was wrong, we had to ask for silverware, plates etc. They were out of things like tofu and several basic dishes you expect in a Thai restaurant. (Not paying vendors)? This is the second time we’ve tried this place. Each time it’s disappointing.

I found that it's really challenging to find a place that makes crispy rice salad (nam khao), and even more difficult to find a place that does it well. Flamin' Thai absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. Flavorful and served with perfectly textured rice, this is a salad I know I'll come back for again and again. Honestly, now that I know they can make it this well, it is going to be extremely difficult to NOT want to come back. The portion size here may look a little small, but it's actually quite generous; I was able to break this down into two meals.
Since I did this as a takeout order, I did not get the chance to sit down and enjoy the restaurant's stylish atmosphere, but this is a great location, close to plenty of parking. Their menu is also extensive, including some Thai food favorites, and sushi (although I believe sushi is a dinner-only option!)

We have to talk about Flamin' Thai's sushi. Not enough people know about this absolute gem. Local sushi folks may remember Tiger Sushi at MOA. Well the same sushi chef from Tiger (JR) now works at Flamin' and he's the REAL DEAL. Our favorite is to ask him to whip up whatever is fresh and best (he also advocates to get the best fish for the restaurant). He won't steer you wrong. He's also super personable and pays attention to little details--he knows I'm Korean, so he serves me special Korean pickles and thanks me in Korean everytime I see him. JR is responsible for turning my bf into a sushi lover. GO VISIT HIM! Oh, the Thai food is also great--so there's something for everyone. Highly recommend the thai duck, thai papaya salad, pad see ew, or any curry.

Had a great dinner here with delicious food. Really enjoyed the duck, it was done to perfection with the right sauce. Also had pad Thai which was a good sized serving. The spice flavor and level was on point (asked for the second highest). Service was very friendly albeit a little slow. The atmosphere is good with relaxing lighting and a contemporary feel that retains some of the historical feel of the building and area. Cool menu with sushi on one side and Thai on the other.

There was literally 6 pieces of pork in my curry 😠 okish flavor, not spiced or spicy enough, but ok… will probably not come back ☹️

*** Update*** still got charged for the food and getting a refund seems to be a sketchy process for these people. Not even a “I’m sorry for the inconvience.” ***
The food is absolutely amazing. But the service is the killer. Place take out orders which are accepted by the kitchen only to arrive for pick up and find out they are not filling the order because the sushi bar is closed.
Will not be returning as it’s a constant waste of time! This is the 2nd time this has taken place. You need to figure out your hours, and exactly what you are marketing.

My wife and I recently dined at Flamin' Thai & Sushi Northeast, and we were absolutely blown away by the experience. From the moment we walked in, the service was amazing, making us feel welcome and attended to throughout our meal.
We must give a special shoutout to the sushi chef, JR. His knowledge and passion for his craft were evident in every dish he prepared. Watching him work with such pride and skill was a true highlight of our evening.
The sushi was outstanding, with incredible flavors and beautiful presentation. Each piece was crafted with meticulous care and attention to detail, showcasing JR's expertise.
We were so impressed by the entire experience that we left the highest percentage tip we’ve ever given. Flamin' Thai & Sushi Northeast truly exceeded our expectations, and we can't wait to return for another unforgettable meal.
Thank you, JR, and the entire team, for making this visit so special!

Went in on Tuesday night and had probably the worst service of my life. Our simple order of two very common dishes took 50 minutes to arrive, and our server didn't return to check on us in more than half an hour after that. I had to go up to the counter to ask for our bill and to-go boxes after nearly two hours there. Boxes never came and the other server in the restaurant brought us our tab. There were no more than four groups being served in the entire restaurant at one time with two servers. Food is decent, but will be a long time before I return.

Ooof. Came for sushi. Pretty disappointed with these rolls for $20/roll. Taste was fine. But the quality and size of a roll for that much at dinner I expect better. Could go to Whole Foods and grab sushi and I’d be more satisfied. Did not have any of the fried rice or noodle dishes tho - maybe those are good. 🤷♂️

Tried out Flamin' Thai and Sushi Northeast and loved the dishes I had! The spring rolls were soft, the red curry had just the right amount of spice, and the mango sticky rice was a sweet finale. However, they didn't have any sushi available during my visit, which wasn't an issue for me since I was there for the Thai food, but it could be disappointing if you're expecting both. Also, they were out of the Tri-color dessert. Definitely a great spot if you're craving Thai cuisine!

They are very disorganized and don't seem to have any table tracking. I ordered some crispy egg rolls, and a Massaman Curry with Tofu. Instead we received some noodle dish with leafy greens and we almost got spring rolls. The noodle dish was also super oversalted.

Pad Thai they don’t make the chicken to order! The server admitted that they make it earlier in the day and even inferred that it might’ve been from the day before! You can tell when chicken isn’t made fresh so I had to ask. The other thing one of the staff was sweeping practically under our table while we are eating! That’s acceptable at a Burger King or maybe a Perkins. So unimpressed with everything. Will not return.

Minneapolis has a hidden Thai treasure where spice lovers thrive. The spring rolls are consistently fresh, paired with an exquisite dipping sauce that's a flavor symphony.
What sets this place apart is its uncommonly delicious noodle soups. While not new to the menu, these soups are a rarity in town. Each bowl offers a unique blend of Thai flavors and abundant noodles that keep you coming back for more.
For those seeking a distinctive Thai experience, this spot delivers with spice, freshness, and a unique soup selection. A must-try for Thai food enthusiasts! 🔥🍜

Cozy restaurant with a vast menu. Lots to choose from. Servers are wonderful and give great suggestions. Some items were better than others. Pad Thai was delightful, noodles weren’t sticky or dry and flavor was packed. Red curry was typical and crying tiger beef was a bit of a disappointment. Though it was seasoned well, I wanted more spice or something, especially for the price of it. Pork belly stir fry was a delight.

For a place that’s pricey the quantity is very small. Good flavor and good service but it’s tiny portions. I spent 60$ for 3 things and I was very disappointed. You can get the exact things with left overs at Karen Thai for cheaper too. Work on portions because that was very disappointing. First and last time.

Found this place and may have had the best roll I've ever had in my life (Mango roll, bluefin tuna), legit melted in my mouth. Beautiful presentation. Chicken pad Thai was fantastic. Disappointing. Aside from the hot sake, 2 thumbs down. Cream Cheese Wontons were overcooked, dry and tough. Pad Thai was terrible - the chicken tasted spoiled with a strong fishy taste and smell I had to spit it out. Ordered pineapple fried rice with beef as a replacement. Rice had no egg in it, beef was boiled or steamed (not wok fried), bland, no soy sauce, and to top it off, a few stray cashews were in it (which I’m allergic to tree nuts and had to leave immediately). Server was not helpful or considerate and made no attempt to make things right.

Sorry to be negative on my first restaurant review ever, but we paid over $120 (including tax and tip) for carry-out of 4 entrees ($17 each) and an order of two spring rolls ($9). We picked it up at the bar because the restaurant was closed (this was 4 pm). When we got home, there was no rice for the curry or stir fry. Apparently we were also charged for extra sides of rice that we didn’t receive. The cashew stir fry was just veggies (my fault for not requesting chicken, but no one asked). Communication was off, for both the phone order and the call to ask about the missing rice. We cooked our own rice rather than face rush hour traffic again. The guy did comp us $8. The food was just ok. Overall, a disappointing experience for the cost of it.

We had a quick lunch for 4. The fried tofu appetizer was really good, and so was the green curry and tom kha soup. However, the basil fried rice and pad thai were average and both tom kha soup and cashew stir fry were very oily. The host was pleasant and entertaining.

I enjoyed this restaurant all in all. I had one issue during my visit. I'll start with the highlights. The place is CLEAN. I mean clean. I walked in at 4:00pm and the place was spotless. After sitting down, I noticed staff wiping down tables that appeared to be spotless. I was served promptly, even before my plus one showed up. Their happy hour is incredible, (between 4 &6pm.) We ordered two different drinks that were $7 on happy hour. The Flamin Margarita and The Tropical Mojito, both were good, but the Mojito was on the sweet side. We also ordered the wings and veggie egg roles. The egg rolls were the issue. They offer either veggie or pork. I Don't EAT PORK! My egg rolls came out as pork. I noticed as soon as I bit into them. I brought this to my waitress's attention and she corrected it promptly. This is a big mistake, seeing people who don't eat pork can become very sick if it's consumed. I will take away a star for this only. Our wings were made well with lots of flavor. Our main dishes of basil, fried rice were great and the heat level of medium was perfect for my taste of liking spicy foods. I had three drinks off the happy hour menu, two appetizers, off the happy hour menu, and one entire off the regular menu and my bill was $65 $75 with a tip and I would return. Even with the egg roll issues.

Food wasn’t very good and not many options were offered. Seemed very overpriced for what our group received. The “Thai Garden Fusion” that used to be a Flamin’ Thai, located in Cedar Riverside, offers a more eclectic variety of food and I find that the food I receive is typically more flavorful there. Won’t be back here so long as the prices remain so high.

Everyone at my table has always loved whatever they ordered here. Reasonably priced, yummy food. My favorite is to come for happy hour and grab a full tuna avocado sushi roll and glass of wine for $9!!!

When you see bell peppers have been substituted for Thai eggplant or gai lin, you know you are not eating anything close to Thai food. They count on you not knowing this. Leeann Chin is just as authentic.

Easily my first thought when I'm going for Thai.

Flamin' Thai has been one of my favorite food experiences in my life! The first night we got to Minneapolis after adventuring around the river and downtown area we stopped in and tried some pork larb and Thai drunken noodles with sticky rice on the side. It was incredible and we were so excited to eat I didn't get a picture LOL I went back yesterday for lunch and decided to try the sushi side of the menu and I'm so glad I did! It was nothing short of amazing. Seaweed salad, sashimi platter, oysters, mango sticky rice, and toro which is like the wagyu of sushi. The chef was kind enough to make me a complimentary bite of toro tartare over salmon sashimi and sticky rice which was one of my top 10 bites of food I've ever had in my life. Overall this place was 10/10 across the board 💛

Service and food were both fantastic!

This is likely one of my favorite new restaurants in NE Minneapolis. I was craving Thai food and decided to try something new.
This place did not disappoint, we got two dishes when we were there, we had drunken noodles with beefs and the salmon red curry. Both were AMAZING. The salmon was a thick filet cooked perfectly and the curry itself was full of flavor. I got medium and it was the perfect level of spice without being over powering. The other dish we got was the drunken noodles with beef, the beef was recommended by the bartender, this pair was out of this world. Portions for both dishes was perfect.
We sat at the bar. Jeffery gave amazing service! We had lots of laughs and he gave great recommendations. We will for sure be back. Can’t wait to try their sushi

Our absolute favorite place! The owner and entire team are so nice, and the food is always bomb-thankful this is in our neighborhood!

The food was good. We got the duck curry, crispy pork belly, and the jerky. All three of these were solid dishes. I'd come back here! The mango sticky rice looked really delicious (I was spying it jealously on a neighboring table). The service was excellent. The owner/manager stopped by to say thanks, gave us some chili oil, and mentioned that there is free parking for them in an adjacent lot--West Photo lot after 5pm weekdays. Not sure about weekends.

The place was had a really nice ambience. I was pleasantly surprised to see a full bar with a good selection of tap beer. However, the food was just ok. In my opinion, it is not worth the price. I knew something was off when I did not see a spice chart and my curry was not spicy at all. It is a cool place, but the food is just ok. I ordered the Red Curry lunch special with potstickers. While the curry was average, the crispiness of the potstickers and flavor was amazing.

Arrived at a quiet time - 3pm on a rainy Sunday - and sat at the bar, in front of the sushi stand, which I highly recommend. First, it's closer to the beer taps! But mainly, it's because of the excellent service of the sushi chef, who served lovely cuts of sashimi, graciously explained the different types of fish to ensure visitors receive precisely what they expect, and whose conversation and company made this a memorable lunch. The chef clearly cares about patrons enjoying their meals and that they receive a high-quality product with no unexpected negative surprises that sometimes come with ordering at an unfamiliar restaurant. While I was only visiting MN for a weekend, my positive experience here makes this restaurant a required stop during my next visit.
