There are ninety-nine different ways to write “sushi” in the Japanese script of kanji. Each with its own unique interpretation and meaning. It was with great deliberation that our founder, Billy, chose 寿司 to best represent his personal interpretation of the word - Celebration of Fish!
That’s exactly how Billy feels about the art of making sushi and the atmosphere that surrounds it - it should be a celebration! Which is why Billy Sushi is more than just a restaurant, it is an experience for anyone who allows themselves to take part.
A three-ring performance of sorts - sushi bar, sake bar and dining room - brought to life by the performances of sushi chefs, bartenders and servers. And the Ring Master and your host, Billy.
I don’t think I could rate this place any higher.
I came in at the end of the night which typically leads to a lesser experience. This was not the case here.
The service was amazing, my waitress was very attentive and gave GREAT recommendations. I had an order in mind after glancing at the menu but my waitress gave some different suggestions. These suggestions were a KNOCKOUT!
I got the COD off the appetizer menu and it was the best thing I had all night.
I also got the ninja roll, it was one of the Billy’s specials rolls.
I tipped well and totaled out at $90 for myself.
I would 11/10 say that it was worth every cent!

Holy smokes! I was impressed as soon as I stepped into this establishment. It is a beautiful restaurant with exquisite service! The food was delicious and the drinks were strong. This whole experience was awesome. I ordered a bunch of food and a couple drinks it was 100 bucks! I thought it would be more, it could easily feed two people and it would be worth it and enjoyable. The server was impeccable and the atmosphere is upscale and laid-back. This place is perfect for birthdays and dates in my opinion. I wish that I could eat here everyday LOL I will be back soon!

Billy Sushi is by far my favorite sushi spot in Minneapolis. The atmosphere is top tier, they do NOT play a bad song at all. Whoever is in charge of the playlist needs a raise. Every server is super nice, when I was there for my birthday they gave us two sake shots on the house. The quality and variety of the rolls are immaculate.

Beautiful venue although a little loud and tables a bit squished together. Food was fantastic. Creative and delicious sushi, good drink menu. Great service. As a member of my party said - hands down the best sushi in Minneapolis. Definitely a place I'll want to go back to.

This was our first time at Billy Sushi. We walked in without a reservation and were able to get a spot at the sushi bar. Best spot in the house! We got to see all of the sushi being made and the chefs were super nice. Great selection of sake. We had the Bill Sans Po Boy, Hamachi jalapeño, Squid game, Avocado tempura, Silly Billy, Naughty Ninja and the Spicy salmon hand roll. Looking forward to trying Omakase next time.

We have been frequent diners at Billy Sushi and Billy After Dark, and have consistently enjoyed both the food and the service. However, our experience last night was deeply disappointing. We opted for the omakase menu, expecting something special, but our waitress could only tell us it was a four-course meal featuring white fish, with no further details. The meal dragged on for 2.5 hours. Despite informing them of a sesame seed allergy, the third course was served with sesame seeds. Although the dish was remade promptly, my husband still had an allergic reaction, and no explanation was given. When the general manager came over to address the situation, they made light of it, even joking about what was clearly serious.
Adding to our frustration, we were offered the option to add a fifth course—an unagi handroll for $25—yet the same handroll is listed for $15 on their regular menu. This pricing discrepancy made no sense and only added to the frustration of an already disappointing evening. To top it off, we all left hungry, the omakase was underwhelming, and despite a small comp, we ended up spending over $800+, leaving us feeling completely robbed.

If you're into looking impressive and impressing your friends this is a great spot for that. I prefer Billy's other sushi restaurant, Sushi Fix, in Wayzata. The sushi is just as good if not better at a much less ridiculous price point. Billy's Sushi isn't bad per se, but it definitely is geared more towards the grams and impressing businessmen and basketball players than it is actually delivering great sushi. That being said this place is at this point an institution so I doubt it's going anywhere any time soon.

Billy is not only a phenomenal chef but also a passionate business owner with an appreciation for animals, food, and culture.
All of this shows up in the artistry of his dishes. It is a unique menu with some of the traditional items also in rotation.
The Screaming O is the best sushi, I’ve ever had and well worth the price.
I have eaten here seven times and never disappointed after trying 16 items on the menu thus far.
Every seat in the house is good! The aesthetics are everything! Unique art, colors, materials and lighting.
High quality sake (the best in TC) and fun looking drinks.
Emma is a very attentive server!
This place is pricey but definitely worth it.
Reduced gluten menu and gluten free soy sauce!
Only issue is how busy this place is and hard to get reservations at. Lastly, not a huge fan of the right bathroom wall art. Too fetishized.

My partner and I went to Billy Sushi last night. It was our first time going. The atmosphere is beautiful. The ambiance is superb. We had Mitch as our waiter. He really did a wonderful job and helped create a memorable experience for us. I literally asked him what course we should do next, and he made suggestions. They were all spot on. I could go on and on about the night. I have never enjoyed sushi as much as I did last night. I have already made another reservation to go again.

My party of three had 8:45 PM reservations at Billy, booked nearly a month in advance for a special celebration. We arrived early and waited patiently, but the only staff to acknowledge us was the overwhelmed host, who couldn’t provide an estimated seating time.
After waiting, we left and received a text 15–20 minutes later that our table was ready. This was disappointing, especially for a special occasion noted when the reservation was made. I hope the restaurant considers better communication and time management to improve the guest experience…

TERRIBLE! We made a reservation for 8p and got to the restaurant at 7:55, we waited for over 40 minutes and left to get dinner down the street around 9p. We were offered a drink but the bartender was extremely rude and made us uncomfortable since there was seating at the bar and there were several parties waiting for the reservation. We didn’t get any drinks and stood waiting. When I asked the hostess she told me on two different occasions that they’re waiting on the table to wrap up. The entire lobby and entrance was filled with people. If you’re going to take reservations you need to space it appropriately and kindly ask the tables ahead to leave and not li get with drinks while other patrons are waiting. Will NEVER come back and such a shame as my parents raved about this place. HORRIBLE. Don’t waste your time.

This is hands down the best sushi to price in the cities. I don’t love the atmosphere, it’s a bit loud and it feels like you’re being politely rushed through by the servers so they can turnover your table. But the food is worth it. The blackened cod was also one of the best bites of cooked fish I’ve ever had.

Hands down some of the worst sushi and in town for the money. It should truly be called Bullys sushi. Simply because of the lack of respect owed to its patrons and employees. Then again- No attention is paid to food either. Nothing better than a drunk owner who is there every single evening and watches the 70 plus cameras in his upstairs den and thinks more attention should be paid to him and his needs and drinks throughout any given evening.

Not one to normally leave a review but I just felt like the staff was so sassy to me and it was my birthday dinner and I felt talked down to from the moment I walked in the door, initially I had a reservation for 5 people and 1 more person came that I didn’t invite I can understand the frustration of the staff on that, but either speak to me respectfully or don’t seat us! Also when I asked more questions about the menu I felt like the waiter was being condescending and prestigious. I often try new restaurants and all types of fine dining so I know what it’s like, the staff was just so rude and eyeing me the whole time because we had an extra chair at the table. Srry for the review it Just kinda spoiled my birthday dinner and made me feel bad. We weren’t a loud bunch either like we didn’t do anything wrong. Have nicer attitudes pls. Food was amazing though

Sat by myself at the sake bar, was a Wednesday and busy and was a 30-minute wait for the table but the text table was ready was efficient. Very nice vibe, friendly service and attentive for the main. I will try the sushi bar next time and try the omakase. The food itself was wonderful I had medium fatty tuna and salmon sashimi. I didn't get one star only because there was a snafu with the order, partly mine partly the tender, but it should have been picked up but it was all made good. Also even after looking at my bill and adjusting it I saw that I had been charged for the wrong salmon (I ordered regular salmon but was charged for King Salmon) but to be honest I'm not sure which one I received anyway. Regardless, I will definitely return and hope to upgrade my review to a 5 then. Not cheap, but then this quality shouldn't be.

We visited Billy’s sushi from Chicago after hearing about it on the news and from a friend. It was worth the try! Service was very good and professional. Loud, pretentious, precocious, out of touch, inauthentic and expensive.
Go to Kado if you want good sushi, this is just intensely overpriced golf-leaf accented nonsense. Literally the salt bae of sushi joints and a disgrace to the vibrant Minneapolis food scene.

My first time dining at Billy Sushi in Minneapolis and I had an outstanding experience. Our evening was made even better by our exceptional waiter, Bryan, whose excellent customer service and great recommendations enhanced our visit.
We started with a selection of appetizers: the salmon carpaccio, truffle salmon, hamachi jalapeno, and the French Laundry. Each dish was absolutely delicious, setting high expectations for the rest of the meal. Of the appetizers, the French Laundry was the best! It was foie gras topped with caviar! It was full of indescribable flavors! Who knew that duck/goose liver can be this satisfying?!
For our main entrees and sushi, we ordered the hibachi salmon, chef's choice Sashimi (30pcs), chef's choice Nigiri (8pcs), Unagi sashimi, Unagi hand roll, Number 9, A-A-Ron, Tiger Maki, and Mojo sushi roll. Every bite was flavorful and expertly prepared. Of the rolls that we ordered, I would highly recommend getting the Tiger Maki! This roll had soft shell crab, spicy tuna, yamagobo topped with eel and salmon, with touch of chili oil and Unagi sauce. Perfect amount of rice for all rolls and nigiris!
The sashimi was definitely the highlight of our meal, showcasing the freshness and quality of the ingredients. If the Chu Toro already melted in my mouth, I'm sure the O-toro will be 100x better! I was hoping it came with the chef's choice, but it didn't. Will get it next time for sure!
Be sure to order a side of the REAL Japanese Wasabi! It tastes so much better than what you typically get at other places. I don't think I can go back to the "FAKE" wasabi anymore.
Overall, Billy Sushi delivered an exceptional dining experience with delicious food and top-notch service. Highly recommended for sushi lovers and anyone looking for a memorable meal in Minneapolis.
Happy Eating!

Billy Sushi is not only the premiere reservation for sushi in Minneapolis currently it may be the best restaurant in all genres. The service is always phenomenal. The restaurant is amazing. The sushi is a work of art and has a similar taste. Billy flies in all of his fish fresh. The difference is astounding. This is a must visit restaurant in the upper mid-west.

Incredible sushi! We had the George Clooney, Nolo Yolo, and medium fatty bluefin nigiri. Try the Secret Smile mocktail! Everything was delicious and came out quickly. Great service! Only complaint was the loud techno music which just kind of made the vibe feel a little hectic or frantic. Otherwise, great aesthetic, amazing food, fabulous service.

The sushi here is pretty good! The deluxe sashimi platter is also delicious, and the fish is very high quality. The rolls were pretty solid, too, although some of them seem a little sauce heavy. My favorite rolls were the Big Blue Wave and the Fancy & Furious. We also got some appetizers! The edamame and beef kushi yaki were really good. The beef was cooked super well, but it’s definitely a smaller appetizer, good for sharing with two people max.

My favorite sushi is kobe in plymouth the fish is kept colder and the roles are roled tighter and way better presented. Their art there. Not to mention no hard mystery pieces in the role. Came here on a wednesday 8pm and found something hard couldn't tell if it was a bone or a piece of plastic or what. The place was loud with music and packed waited half hour to get a sushi bar seat wich is nice to watch the chefs though it was really hot from being infront of the sushi case motor vents. Also again the temperature of the sushi just wasn't cold enough for me. They were out of the mocktail i wanted so i ordered a different drink. He forgot it or something so when the food arrived and he didnt ask if we needed anything else and i tried to ask he said I'll be right with you talked to the guys next to us then. Then he went away without getting back to me. I figured no drink then, but then 5 minutes later he showed up with it and said it will be free i said okay sure thank u. When we told him about the object in the role and we stopped eating it he said it was a piece of hard rice. It was most definitly not rice we tried to smash it with the spoon and zero give on it. Rock hard. But it was busy loud and didnt wanna seem like we're trying to get free stuff and with the drink already we didn't argue. He seemed like he wanted us to order more food as we got only a miso soup and 2 roles he asked are u sure thats enough food? But honestly we left the rest of the role after finding the 2 pieces and already waited so long and kinda just wanted to go. I have a picture of it clearly not hqrd rice dont see where how to attach it though
I'd maybe give it a shot again at a slow time but it was honestly kind of uptight (hip?) and hectic. The drink and the miso were very flavorful but sushi not great especially the one with the stuff in it. Maybe its better for coctail and girls night out. Expensive and "upscale" doesnt always equate to the best... kobe far surpasses billy sushi their chefs role their orders with such precision makes billys look sloppy doesnt really stay together so good

Needlessly difficult to use gift card to order pickup. I tried many combinations of the numbers on the back of the card and none of them worked. I even went into the store and ordered in person. I provided feedback in person that some instruction should be put on the website about which numbers are the ones that you need to put in. This was apparently not run up the chain of command. So much time wasted.

Exceptional service! The veggie sushi roll is one the best sushi rolls I’ve ever had. The dashi tofu is served in a beautifully balanced, smoky broth. The spring roll was very fresh- but be warned! It does contain a generous portion of cilantro. Drinks are tasty and pack a punch.
I do not recommend the avocado tempura… the texture is a bit “off”, but the batter is fantastic. I wish it had been used on sweet potatoes or asparagus. Vegan options are limited. Also, the music borders on industrial, which may not be for everyone.

Food was very good but it’s pretty spendy. The experience is lacking for me. With price that high I kinda expected the experience would match the price point. It’s loud and tables are pretty snug.
I am gluten free and would recommend the NOLO sushi roll.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating!

First of all I got to say I wa shocked to find such phenomenal sushi in the Midwest that’s landlocked and especially Minneapolis! Fish was fresh as can be and everything was very authentic. They were PACKED on a Thursday night at 7:00pm.
I checked in and they said it will be about a 45mins wait even at the bar seating. Which I was fine with, but as a party of one usually when there is a random bar seat open they would seat me right away especially if it’s empty and all the parties ahead of me were party of 2 or more people. However I noticed a guy leave from the bar seat. The spot got wiped down right away. But then just was left empty for over 30mins before the hostess came up to me and was like. “Let me set that spot up and than we can seat you” I’m not sure %100 whyyyyy they had to make me wait 30mins while that spot was just left wide open with no other guest sitting in it when she could of taken 2mins to put chopsticks and a napkin and sat me after 5mins. Instead the hostess decided to just chat with her other hostess and seated other people that had party of 2 or more for 30mins before she decided to finally seat me in an empty bar seat that was empty for 30+mins.
That is the reason I had to give the service and the restaurant 1 star less because of the inefficiency of that hostess. I can tell why there is always a like because whoever handles seating does not do it the smartest of efficient way and make people wait unnecessarily.
My sever who is the bartender however saved the night and service she provide was spectacular. I will come back, however next time I might speak up earlier and ask why a seat has been empty for 30mins but you refuse to seat me the party of 1 person?

I called to make a reservation as I was driving from 40 minutes away and the person I was joining was driving from 20 minutes the other way. I was told they would not take same day reservations and that at the moment they had plenty of open tables and I should do walk in service and likely at worst would have to wait 20 minutes. When I asked if they would make an exception they refused. When I explained the situation, the host offered to let me talk to the manager, Hannah, who was just plain rude on the phone and made me feel unwanted.
I went anyway after being told "let's try it" and was promptly seated elbow length from a couple middle ages white men talking loudly about going to Trump campaigns and how bad Democrats are. I asked to be moved.
Then I opened the menu to find prices double of Masu or Origami, and four times that of many other places like Osaka or Akita. I hoped the food made up for the cost but alas, the miso soup was subpar, the edamame unpleasing.. the Billy roll was ok but nothing special, and while the sashimi cuts were large, they were not as generous as some I have had.
Maybe with better customer service training and a look at the value of their menu items this place could last but no wonder they were only half full on a Friday evening.

I recently visited Billy Sushi in Minneapolis, and I must say, it was the best sushi I've ever had! The sushi pieces were impressively large, and I tried the Bad and Boujee, Silly Billy, and Crunchy Roll. My personal favorite was the Bad and Boujee—absolutely delicious!
It was our first experience at Billy Sushi, and it was nothing short of amazing. The server was top-tier, providing exceptional service throughout our meal. For drinks, I tried the Yeti Sake. While it wasn't my cup of tea, it was definitely worth trying for the first time. We also had a raspberry drink that was incredibly flavorful.
Overall, for our first time visiting, I had a phenomenal experience. The environment is fantastic and really takes you out of reality. Highly recommend Billy Sushi for anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience!

Extremely rude staff. We went to their speakeasy (Billy after dark) and the bouncer at the gate was either high or was having a bad day as he got in verbal fight with girls in our group. We decided to leave to avoid escalating the scene and simply went back to the restaurant and asked to speak with manager (I know very Karen move but was the only option to understand why the gentleman behaved the way he did). We waited for 15 mins but no manager ever came to speak with us and we kept hearing “the restaurant is busy but he will be here shortly “. Eventually we gave up as we did not want to spoil our Saturday night. They spend lot of effort on appearing as great place online and for all I know they might be but our experience was definitely quite the opposite and we would not be going again.

Billy Sushi is our absolute favorite Sushi and Japanese restaurant by a long shot. My wife, son and I have had sushi in multiple places, even Japan, and this is still our favorite spot.
We went to Billy Sushi last night and we were in a rush because we were going to a show in downtown Minneapolis. We expressed this to our waiter, Alex, and he took our order right away. Our sushi, edamame, gyoza dumplings, wagyu beef, rolls and more were brought out almost immediately. The owner, Billy, stopped by our table to say hello. The food was beyond delicious, and we made our show on time. I said to Billy before we left that somehow his restaurant and staff was able to stop time so that we were able to both enjoy our meal, and still make our show time.
Billy Sushi is amazing and Minneapolis (and my family) are so lucky to have this top notch restaurant.

I've been here many times and really love it. Best sushi I've had in town, and the vibes are great. It can be a long wait for a table, but if you're going alone usually there's a seat at the bar or at least a shorter wait.

We loved it. It is definitely a bit more expensive than your run of the mill Japanese place but it was worth it for a nice meal out.
The quality of the fish was a cut above the rest and they have fish options that other places didn't have (snapper, flounder, ootoro). Very generous fish portions in the rolls. The drink menu is great but I wish they had sake options.

Best sushi in town. Actually, maybe the best down town restaurant period. My personal favorite is the uncultured swan roll, followed by the salmon and tuna sashimi and scallop hand roll. A great place for date night or celebratory dinner.
The drinks were also fantastic, with the “Cuz I Love You” being my favorite. Light and refreshing.

Unfortunately the experience I had at Billy’s Sushi was a wash. Me and my partner showed up 5 minutes early with a reservation. We were seated and proceeded to wait 17 minutes without as much as a hello, a glass of water or even eye contact from the numerous employees walking by. After 17 minutes we left. We would love to try the food sometime, but feeling invisible in a restaurant is not worth it.

We had a great experience tonight and felt compelled to give a couple of shout outs. My husband and I came out to celebrate his birthday. Billy Sushi is a our favorite spot because of its creative maki selection. We sat at the sushi bar for the first time and met chef Michael. I am used to going to smaller sushi locations where regulars tend to talk to the chefs most of the night. Tonight, we were able to have some great conversations while enjoying our meal. "Su" (our server with a name I cannot fathom how to spell) was terrific. She adjusted our orders so we both could equally appreciate each item we ordered. Refills were wonderfully managed, and the drink recommendations were on point. Billy Sushi has traditionally been a group dinner location. I am looking forward to coming back as a pair and, hopefully, sit at the sushi bar again. Also, I prefer restaurants raise their prices instead of adding fees and additional charges at the end. We appreciated the straightforward pricing here.

First and foremost the sushi here was fantastic. I had the Silly Billy roll, George Clooney roll, and the Boom Island roll. Every flavor was incredibly well balanced and very distinct and unique. My server, Connor, really made my dining experience incredible. He walked me though my drink order, food order and any question I had in a knowledgeable and intelligent way that will have me coming back and requesting him by name. Thank you Connor!

We did the omakase (5 course for 125 dollars) which was a huge rip off. The five courses were an appetizer with scallops, a snow crab cucumber salad, a chirachi bowl with 6 (only!) pieces of sashimi, one (!) piece of tofu and three nigiri (one was wagyu). I don't think it's worth the price at all. Better off getting the sashimi or nigiri by themselves.

It's always a great time at Billy Sushi with fantastic food and stellar service. We enjoyed several rolls and some unique drinks while the one "non -sushi" diner in our group had no problem finding plenty of options.
The tables are a little close and the noise a bit loud but, it's a popular place, just trying to fit everyone in.

Too busy, sushi is good but not worth the wait. Even with reservations, they make you wait. They need a better system.

There was only one small drawback to this place, well, maybe two - it is noisy and parking is a pain, but otherwise the place was enjoyable. Plant-based/vegan eaters have extremely limited options. While I understand that it's a sushi place I think it's reasonable to expect some variety of vegan options. Having a varied menu makes bringing a group so much easier. I was surprised to find that the miso soup is made with chicken broth. I've never heard of that. Is it because chicken broth is cheaper than miso? I don't know, but what I do know is that if I order miso soup I don't want chicken broth. Okay, maybe there is a third drawback - price! It is EXPENSIVE! Worth it? Debatable!

My girlfriend and I had an amazing time here! We came here for my birthday and sat at the bar. It was so fun to watch the kitchen staff work right in front of you. The restaurant has a fun, lively environment that gives it a welcoming ambience. We had a wonderful server named Alex that was very attentive and kept us on our toes! We also had the pleasure of talking with chef Michael while he was working on the line. This goes to show how friendly and accommodating their staff are and how they make Billy’s Sushi a great place to eat!
It goes without saying that their food was incredible! We had the Veggie roll and Number 9 roll, both were great options. We definitely will be back!

Amazing food. Best sushi ever. Expensive...
But quality.... Appetizer were good, but super small, not enough really to share.
The beef app was good, the chicken app was excellent!
Again not really enough to share.
Celebrated a birthday, and they gave a saki drink...
Overall very good, would go again.

Second time here. First time the wagyu special cost us $40, which seemed really excessive when we just trusted it would be a bit more than most items. But almost double for a single piece of sushi? Tonight we went again and the seaweed salad had scant seaweed in it. It would be more accurately described as a cucumber salad. The poke bowl is mostly rice, and way overpriced as well. After we got the $200 bill, we were pushed out. Food was tasty, but not going back to this rip-off of a place that overcharges and pushes you out. Best part of the dining experience was spending the time with my partner.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I made a reservation, and my party of 2 was seated immediately and had a great waitstaff. We had sake, o-toro Bluefin sashimi, the Silly Billy roll (pictured and favorite), and a supreme combo. Everything was delicious and inspired me to return again to try more of their amazing creations!

sushi was so bad we couldn’t finish, super fishy taste and flavors that didn’t match. DO NOT GET THE LUCKY. literally so horrible and music was blasting and the texture was not it. i’ve eaten better GROCERY STORE SUSHI. do not come here unless you want to pay for overpriced disgusting sushi. looks pretty at least. LOOKS ARE DECIVING

Big sushi fan, eaten it all over the world. Billy was on my list for years. Overall good experience, but not outstanding.
Had both simple sashimi/nigiri and more complicated rolls.
- This spot is all about the tuna which is great (tuna in cheap sushi places is usually tinny and gross)
- Tuna in ponzu was the highlight
- Deluxe sashimi platter was surprisingly the most disappointing. Much of the fish was tough; the salmon belly was actually crunchy. Not good...
- The vegetarian roll ordered by a friend was surprisingly tasty. They served it on the same platter as the fish, which was a poor move - they were kind enough to remake the roll.
Overall, did not match the hype nor price. However it was a good spot to grab some pretty good fish

Lively spot with great, fresh flavors! We were seated promptly, had great service and good recommendations from the staff. Food came out quickly!
Recommend the miso soup, edamame, and gyoza for starters. The Yaki Udon was the best! I really like the crispy tuna, even though the rice was a bit too crispy, the savory/umami/sweetness was spot on! Mistletoe roll had some tasty bites - really like the tuna and eel combos!

This place is so overrated. The service is horrible- the hosts and the manager are incredibly rude. Would not recommend.

Great sushi, great appetizers. More than a dozen sake options. One thing to be aware of is there really aren't good options for vegetarians/vegans. There is one vegetarian roll. No substitutions are allowed on other rolls/apps so you can't just leave the fish out.

3 days later and I can STILL taste that Otoro Blue Fin fatty tuna in my mouth. It was like butter and melted in your mouth. I'm still daydreaming about it, no kidding! This is by far the BEST sushi joint I've been to in the twin cities. The Screaming O was a delight with the torched salmon touch. The George Clooney was simple yet delectable. The spring rolls were such a pleasant surprise with the Mango lasso like dipping sauce. Highly recommend the Otoro nigiri. It comes in pieces of two... and you aren't going to want to share! Service was amazing, food was incredible. If you're a sushi fanatic, this place is THE place for you!

This is the best quality sushi you’ll get in the Twin Cities, but it comes at a cost. It. Is. Pricey.
But, it’s also really good, so for special occasions where you’re feeling sushi, this is the place to go.

Tasted like authentic Japanese food straight out of Tokyo coupled with excellent service and a modern with hints of traditional Japanese art makes Billy Sushi a must visit

Good not Great sushi. This was my first time at Billy Sushi and while I enjoyed it, I came away feeling like it was over-hyped to me. Had their "Beyond Here Lies Nothing" which is their riff on an Old Fashioned. It was delicious and I absolutely recommend it if that's your jam.
For rolls we shared the NoLo YoLo, Naughty Ninja, and Tiger Maki. The NoLo YoLo was good, but the amount of avocado was a little too much for me. The Tiger Maki was very tasty but seemed like there was something physically warm in the roll to me which was off putting. The Naughty Ninja was delicious and the best one of the 3.
Service was good and friendly but I was put off by the abrupt dropping off of the check without asking if we wanted anything else, as well as their asking us to leave shortly after the bill was paid despite their being open tables elsewhere in the restaurant. All in all, would I go back yes. Would I recommend it, probably not.

The amazing part about this place is that food is amazing. We had the Fancy & Furious, Mistletoe, 2-14, Naughty Ninja, and B.A.D & Boujee rolls as well as the Crispy Rice Tuna starter. Everything there was delicious. The chefs get a 5 star review every day of the week.
My drop to 3 stars comes from the server that I had. For a $150-200 night I am expecting an attentive server, what I got was a server who only really stopped if I was able to catch him walking by. Not sure if that is because we didn't order alcohol since neither of us drink or if he was a new server but sitting for 5 mins or so without getting a refill on water (which did not come until we were literally done eating) is not ok. When we did stop him the service was fast but this is not what you expect when paying for a high end experience.
Also, I feel like I may be "getting old" even though it was only my 25th birthday that we celebrated. It was very loud in the place and made it hard to talk to my fiancé sitting right next to me. Add on to that that the only thing they do for birthdays is a shot of Sake is just kinda sad when you've given up alcohol.

Quality has gone down since 2019 while prices have gone up. Slimey cilantro in my roll. For $30/roll you are getting ok. Idk how this place turned into a destination restaurant.

High quality sushi with great service BUT we were greeted by a hostess saying that we only had 90 minutes so that other people can eat too… ??? very unwelcoming, first of all! Second of all, were we at McDonald’s?… people go to a restaurant to enjoy their meals and conversation and not shove their food as fast as possible, especially for the price. What happened to our restaurant culture? Very sad. At the end, it was very awkward as we were still talking and our server just brought the check without asking if we wanted anything else. Big turn off for me, so next time I might go somewhere else where my business is appreciated and I’m welcome.

Sushi with good quality, very pricey though. The place was kind of tight. We were out for our anniversary and it did not feel special because there was other people sitting so close to us. They can hear our conversation and we can hear theirs. We had a moment where the other table and us just stayed quiet because we can hear each other's conversation. I would recommend this place though because the fish quality and food. This time we ordered the omakase, it was a nice 5 course meal.
