To start-my husband and I are big fans of Kura sushi! We have visited locations in Japan but have not gotten the chance to visit any in the U.S until now.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food-however one part of our experience really ruined it. The restaurant closes at 9pm and we assumed that is also indicative of when the kitchen closes and when you are cut off from placing orders. We tried to place an order for Sake at 8:45pm and then we went to place a dessert order at 8:50pm. A server came by and alerted us that the kitchen was already closed and we could not order anything else and the Sake would not be coming. We were so excited for dessert and a last drink and that really ruined the end of our meal.
To be clear-there is nothing wrong with the kitchen closing, although I would expect it to be 9pm when the restaurant closes. The issue is that absolutely no one told us that orders cut off early. We would have ordered everything in advance to avoid this issue!! Management should know: tell people when you intend to stop taking orders because you are quite literally leaving money on the table.

My Husband has been wanting to go here for a couple months now and we finally went late in the afternoon on a Saturday. The wait was 30 minutes which we expected. I found out there is a app you can download and get out on the wait list. Next visit we will be doing that. Everything we tried was great. The plate slot was dirty and clean ness could be a little bit better or I would of gave 5 stars.

This place is AMAZING I personally am I huge sushi lover and this place did not disappoint. The waiter started by teaching us how to properly grab the sushi. Then a ROBOT delivered our drinks (coolest thing I've ever seen!!!!) whenever I need help the staff were very helpful and the sushi tasted great! The atmosphere made it feel like you were actually in Japan 5 Stars!! I'll definitely be back!!!

They overcooked the Philly tempura roll and it’s FREEZING in here - the heater isn’t working right and it’s 22 degrees outside. Completely miserable experience this time. I am shivering cold with a sweater, sweat jacket and a heavy winter jacket on while trying to eat. Barely anything was on the conveyer belt this time too, I watched the same empty plates go around and around. Most food had to be ordered on the screen since the belt was 10% full, if that.

No signs posted that the heater is acting up either until you ask if they have the heat on.

Very good for friends or family meetups, very interesting setup. The best part is that it’s always quick to get food here, once you sit down you never have to wait, everything is automated.

Sushi is good but definitely not the best, the price is pretty high though, we usually end up paying more than 50/person here. But I think it’s worth trying if you’ve never been to revolving sushi before.

I would love to give this lovely sushi bar a 5 out of 5, but it was a little lackluster this time around. Unfortunately the belts are never filled or have anything on them so to get the full experience you will be disappointed. The sushi itself is absolutely delicious and the desserts are so good. I highly recommend going here for the experience as well as the food.

I had a handroll plus sashimi, nigiri, and many different types of sushi.
Although the revolving bar was cute, and feeding the plates into the mouth of the plate disposal to get treats and tabulate the bill was awesome, the sushi fell apart.. it was sloppy.
Though it tasted ok
I was grossed out by the bathroom that had no toilet paper and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for awhile.
Over all it's mediocre , but if the sushi and sashimi rice had not fallen apart as soon as I grabbed it with my chopsticks , and had the bathrooms not made me feel like I was in a gas station, I would have given 5 stars because the servers and fun atmosphere were great and it was priced well.

Not sure where to begin. I don't leave a lot of reviews, positive or negative, but I felt like I needed to do a public service. So here goes.

Went tonight with my kids. We spent hundreds of dollars and we left and went to Shake Shack for another meal. The plates are four bucks a pop. Doesn't matter what you order. Noodle soups were $11 for a size much smaller than what you would expect from a ramen place. Not shareable. Not suitable as an entree, either.

I didn't feel that the sushi was very fresh. Some of it had an unusually fishy smell. The fish was sliced thinner than normal for sushi restaurants. Even the rice ball was smaller. The restaurant had no capability to customize whatsoever. You could order a tuna roll but not a salmon roll. Items that are pictured raw were delivered cooked, which I thought was no bueno. It wasn't what I expected. There are no waiters coming by to check on you. No sense of hospitality. No desire to accommodate whatsoever. They were happy to take the cooked "spicy salmon sushi" hand roll off of the bill, though.

I will say there's a robot that goes around playing loud music the entire time. It's cool to look at but it's sort of sad that the robot provided better hospitality and service than the rest of the restaurant did. It's not that you couldn't find somebody and ask for something but they made no effort to check on you at all. The sushi was delivered with no wasabi or ginger. We asked for wasabi and ginger and were delivered two plates of the most unappetizing horseradish I've ever seen. It looked half white with the other half equal parts green and yellow. It was chunky and did not taste like wasabi; rather it tasted like the kind of horseradish that one would put on prime rib. Totally off-putting and bizarre. For a place that charges almost $8 for a full serving of a cucumber roll (two plates) You would think that you would be able to get authentic wasabi and ginger.

In my opinion, this type of environment with the concept that was put together here would be a fair value as a $20 all you can eat sushi place. I think with that going on the expectations for service, quality and all of the accoutrement go out the door and it might meet expectations. On the other hand, as a sushi restaurant, it falls woefully short. The conveyor concept was a complete fail. It was conveying all evening but the vast majority of the containers were empty. I'd say 75% of our food needed to be ordered through the touch screen (which we had to reset more than once). That's actually a fairly convenient system where after about 5 to 10 minutes whatever you order is delivered directly to your table on another conveyor.

As far as the plates go, you are asked to clear your own table through a slot. That's great unless you have food you didn't like and have no place to put it or you have leftovers such as edamame. The slot doesn't have any place to dump leftover food (nor will the plates fit through the slot with food on them) and you are expected to put all of your plates down the slot before you leave. We ended up having to pile a bunch of food in the middle of our table which I don't think was the idea.

To sum it all up, if you're looking for a place to go for good sushi or a great dining experience, I would definitely not go here. If you're looking for a gimmick and a place to hang out for a little while, the place has fast food vibes, probably costs twice as much as a meal at a sushi place but the show of the conveyor is impressive. The only problem is you shouldn't expect to be able to eat your meal solely from the conveyor. I think it's a fair statement to say that of the most popular items at sushi restaurants in the area, they comprise the minority of the places on the conveyor and the majority of those where they are located are empty most of the time. That was based on my experience and may be different on other days.

One positive: the robot delivered prompt beverage service.

Didn't know Michigan had any revolving sushi bars. The night I found out there was one....I went! Service was great! Got the best seats in the house! House made wasabi, freshest of fresh sushi. Eel is always my favorite and the eel here was nothing short of perfect. Tried scallops for the first time, WOW! We had 15-16 plates between 2 people. No regrets :)

Definitely a cool experience, but a bit overpriced for what you get per plate. We were there for about an hour and there wasn't much variety in the options going by on the conveyor belt. I'm assuming that's just because we must of been near the end of it and everyone was grabbing them up before we got a chance to. Aside from that design flaw, it's a really fun environment and a great way for you(and your kids) to try new things. Most things we did get a chance to try were delicious.

Kura Revolving Sushi was a bit disappointing. After waiting 15 minutes to be seated at 7 PM, I was looking forward to diving into some sushi right away. Unfortunately, it took another 25 minutes before anything came around on the conveyor belt. The wait was frustrating, especially during peak dinner hours when you'd expect better efficiency. The sushi itself was decent, but the long wait really took away from the experience. If you’re short on time or patience, this might not be the best choice.

They do have check in available online before arrival which I highly recommend since we did not do it and waited almost an hour for a table. Given that they were very busy, many sushi items were consistently missing from the moving line, but at any time you can use your screen to order it and bypass the line so it wasn't that big of an issue. Overall, the sushi that they had was good, but I was disappointed they did not have more roll options available. On the other hand, their variety in sashimi options was extensive, so it really just depends on what you prefer.

Side note: bring warm clothes as the temperature felt like it was kept lower than what would be comfortably warm. Most likely to keep the items on the line fresh.

Went a little later in the evening on a Saturday. Belt had limited selections of menu items and it was very busy, so had to resort to ordering most of our items from the screen. Food was pretty good. Soup/noodles were sent with no spoon, as was dessert. Service is where things fell short on this visit. Asked for Wasabi 3 times and rather than just get it, the person who came to the table said "the person they asked was a little backed up but was getting it." Could tell by the staff it was a busy night and they were ready to be done. Not my first time here, will give them a pass. Far better food and service than the Novi location - that place needs an overhaul.

Shams and our AI waiters we’re excellent serving us and our other customers I appreciate Sam’s welcome and ability to explain how to deal with the revolving sushi mechanisms. It was absolutely fascinating. I kept looking at the bowl trying to figure out. Is there a code on there to tell them what they what I ate, but then I realize that if you stick the bowl in the The dish flat and I realize that everything on the rotating platform was the same price so when you put a bowl down the slot, it would keep count as to how many bowls you ate for example when you get to 15 bowls at $3.75 each you will get an award such as a Nintendo game or something and I don’t know how we could do that but it was offered at that time and of course we ate more than that The sushi was delicious. I made a mistake of putting too much wasabi in the sauce that they had in it almost killed me even though I like wasabi, but aside from that the octopus squid shrimp you name it. It was absolutely delicious. I had my first helping Abuchi and this fulfilled a dream for me because I’ve watched this type of eating on Asian films and I’ve always wanted to try Moochie and Restaurant like this revolving sushi restaurant and I loved it. I think our friend Bobby for bringing us here and my wife actually enjoyed our visit. This was well worth our trip and I cannot wait to return. I look forward to see if there’s any other restaurants in Michigan. My wife corrected me. I had put the wasabi in soy sauce and put too much in after I stir it with chopsticks. My fault.

My first experience there was pretty good so I definitely looked forward to coming back to which I was greeted with maximum disappointment. I'm not expecting the greatest sushi in the world but I am expecting something that doesn't taste like it's been sitting on the belt since yesterday morning. Eel is probably my favorite when it comes to cooked sushi toppings but the "sear" was all I could taste. Additionally, since you can see all the staff behind the glass I was able to witness one of the chef's preparing food touch his phone with gloves on and then continue to prepare food with the same gloves on which is very unhygienic . After a second experience like that, I won't be visiting them again anytime soon.

Update: Tried it again - friends from out of town wanted to see it, but it was somehow worse than last time. The conveyor belt was once again empty and the stuff we ordered for delivery was not well put together. I don't understand how this place got so bad over the last year.

Original Review: I went last night and was frankly pretty disappointed. The conveyor belt was cool but not a single plate of sushi came by. Not once. Everything we had we had to order from the screen, which was fine, but kind of ruined the point of going to the conveyor belt sushi restaurant.

The kids were entertained by the robot with the drinks, but overall the experience was pretty lame and the sushi was mid, at best. Most of it looked rushed together and sloppy. Some of the rolls were falling apart. Overall very unimpressed, there's much better sushi in town and if the conveyor belt isn't even used why bother going here?

we visit this restaurant regularly since it‘s my 6 old son‘s favorite restaurant, but today’s experience was very disappointing to the point of considering not to come back to this place ever again. We ordered two lemonades for kids and started eating. The belt was empty but that didn’t bother at all compared to the quality of foods. Don’t know how long were they sitting outside but salmon and tuna were brown, the cut looked like it was done by amateurs. The rice was not consistent too, as an Asian myself I don’t have too much expectation from any local restaurants in terms of quality of rice, but this place’s rice were either undercooked or overcooked. Not sure if they properly wash the rice at all, I could taste every bit of uncleaned rice starch from every bites. Wasabi probably was sitting outside for a while too, it all looked ‘gray’ and just didn’t look like something that we can eat. After forcefully rushing through my disappointments, I took a sip from my kids cup to wash down the unpleasant taste with a lemonade. And guess what, it smelled and tasted like sewer water, or a kitchen rag. I assume the tank was not cleaned for a while. I called the server and complained, and they took lemonades out from the bill. I asked the server to let their management know how bad this restaurant is running, and the server said they already know and are working to improve. However for today’s experience, I won’t comeback to this place ever again. What a shame, it really was my son’s favorite restaurant in the town.

Pretty disappointing. I had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for quite some time with my adult children we try and visit a different sushi restaurant every couple of months.
I knew this was not going to be the best quality sushi I have had and I got what I expected, not horrible but not great either. I also thought the pricing was reasonable, no complaints there.
I was more disappointed with a couple of things, We must have been seated near the end of the conveyor belt that the sushi comes out on. The selection of items that made it to us was pretty sparse, there were always many empty plates followed by a few items that no one seemed to want. and a lot of the selections we wanted rarely came by. Of course you can always order items from the menu, but the fun of a place like this is grabbing things off of conveyor.
The worst part of the meal was being mostly ignored by the staff. I know it is a self-service concept, but our table got pretty crowded with discarded items and someone should have come around to take those items or at least asked how we were doing.
Glad I tried the place but won’t be going back.

A couple hiccups like where my crispy rice with avocado was burnt to death and also looked like a smeared avocado disaster (it was actually comical how bad it looked but it's fine lol) and a waiter another day who seemed extremely annoyed at being there (came to host stand and stared at us with no hello for a few seconds, then asked "did you check in" which we did). If you've never been to a revolving sushi bar, this is quite the experience. I thought it was fun watching as the small plates passed by and watching orders whip down the top conveyor belt. The overall flavor of the food was neutral. Nothing I ate was too salty. I don't remember names of what I ate, but I had the sushi with whipped egg, and both of the steak sushis, one with the sesame seeds and one with the umami oil. Both were very tasty. I also had the cheesecake which was not good. It tasted too much like cream cheese, very sour also. I was nkt crazy about the crispy chicken either, every bite had slimy fat in it. Overall, it was a cool experience. We'll be back!

The location is very lovely, and the setup is good. I am very disappointed with ramen. I ordered two different ramen and beef and rice bowl. One ramen tasted very bland, and the other one was very salty. The noodles are not fully cooked at all. That is not Japanese ramen.
For the beef-rice bowl, beef has more fat than meat. When we go to a restaurant, we expect the food to be better than the instant ramen we get at home. I think they focus on sushi more than ramen. I gave three stars for the new sushi conveyor belt experience—and zero stars for the food.

Getting signed in was an interesting experience, took a minute to sit me but seemed like a staffing issue rather than a problem with the staff. The staff that helped us was very nice and helpful in explaining everything. Everything was very clean and despite everything, the atmosphere was not very loud. Had 6 plates of sushi, a dessert, and water. That all came to around 30.00, so be cautious of that before you go. I've been to Kura Revolving Sushi Bar twice now, the first time was a few months ago. Wait times were absurd both visits (over 2 hours, different days and times). The app says you can sign up to get in line in advance, but they were only taking walk ins both times. After waiting nearly two hours, they refused to seat my party while I was in the bathroom stating we weren't all present, despite me being in their bathroom! They were obviously understaffed today and every request we made (straws, more water, wasabi) seemed to be huge inconveniences to the staff. Some requests like the wifi password really threw them for a loop and were ignored. Twice during our visit we pressed the call button for staff, and were ignored. The biggest disappointment today compared to our first visit was how empty the revolving sushi bar was. The kitchen staff clearly could not keep up and we ended up having to custom order 2/3 of our selections, which again was not the case last time. It's disappointing the see one empty vessel after another circling the conveyor belt at 3 pm on a Sunday! My three star ranking is only this high because we did have a better experience previously.

Update: I will likely not be returning following the quality of the sushi rolls today. Not a single roll held together out of 13 plates. Most items on the conveyor belt weren't stocked, despite them only having been open an hour. Cute concept, but they have some serious work to do in order to properly train their kitchen staff.

I love Kura, but the restaurant has changed. There seems to be a lot of missing items they were known for like the yukhoe and spicy tuna on crispy rice. The pop machines never seem to work and they’re always out of their fantastic wasabi. I’m not sure if it’s just requiring some maintenance or what, I just hope it gets fixed and stays around

A very cool experience. I think that it definitely opens up a sushi eaters palate to try new sushi that at a regular sushi bar would not buy otherwise of for fear of not liking it. I discovered that I really like eel and the sweetened egg sushi! So im glad for that. I also got the miso Ramen, nothing special to note it tasted like all the miso ramens I’ve ever eaten. Overall a nice place to try but beware if you like very complex rolls that a fried this is not the place for you. Also their spicy mayo is not what you’d be used to at other sushi bars.

I stopped in here with a colleague for a quick snack. We were leaving on a business trio to Toronto and just wanted a small meal. This was the first time either of us had eaten here. We really liked it. The sushi are on small plates which pass by your table on a conveyor belt. There is a top belt and bottom belt. The bottom belt continuously moves and you select what you want. The top belt is used if you order off the touchscreen menu and a plate will come to your table and stop. The pricing works based on the plate you select off the bottom conveyor belt and when you are done eating, you simply put your plates in a slot at the table and your bill is calculated quickly. I loved that it was possible to pay the bill electronically without calling anyone over to the table. We were in and out of the restaurant in 25 minutes. The staff are very friendly and showed us how everything works. I have no complaints about this place and will go back again with my family next time.

Always a fun time here. Sometimes we are seated near the end of the conveyor and thus provided fewer options to choose from, however it's no big deal as you can order everything via the touch screen fresh to your table!

Food is expensive per plate. Had 16 plates and was over 80 dollars. Then they are asking for a tip? A robot brought me the drinks, half spilled hot green tea, and they didn't even have soda. Food was cold and some of it was inedible. (Salmon was chewy, cucumber umami salad was gross)

Though somehow 8 extra plates were added to our order, a refund was issued within 30 minutes of me requesting it. Staff consistently asked if we needed refills, food was quick, everything was delicious. I always have an amazing time when I come and can't wait til my next visit!

We celebrated my 7 year olds birthday at Kura on a Thursday night. This is the 3rd or 4th time we’ve eaten lunch or dinner here. The online waitlist is a great feature and the timing was pretty accurate.

On this visit we ordered/selected off the belt, various cooked sushi, ramen, udon, and fried chicken. It really seems like restaurant cannot keep up with the conveyor belt. There were definitely more empty slots than full ones. Of our 13 sushi plates, more than half we ended up ordering via the touch screen. Granted that the rolls are exactly the same whether they arrive via the touchscreen or the regular belt, my kids like the novelty of just being able to pull dishes off the belt.

First time at one of these revolving sushi restaurants. Awesome atmosphere super fun idea and great robotic execution. I was very hungry so it was a little expensive for lunch for one person ($36) but that is on me for having udon and 5 plates of conveyor sushi. Sushi was great but not the best I have ever had. I will definitely be going back and trying the other locations as well. I highly recommend it for a fun small (4 ish) outing.

Me and my friend went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We had to wait about 30 minutes before we were able to be seated, but it was nice so we walked around and checked out the other couple of restaurants nearby! We had two seats next to eachother, not a table and that was ok, I think the "bar" type seats actually made it easier to grab the food! The sushi was AMAZING!! Very delicious and we rarely had to wait more than one full revolution for a chance to grab what we wanted or were waiting for! We ordered dumplings and cones from the electronic menu and it was fun for those to come right to us too! It was such a fun experience, watching the food roll on by was just as great as the food itself! We will definitely be back! It took a little while to get a drink refill, but that was really our only very minor grievance. ALL the staff were very nice and friendly.

By and far away the absolute worst Kura - I’ve been to Kura’s all over the country, and this one is constantly slow and understaffed. Be prepared to wait forever for food, too - the belt is always almost empty and everything has to be ordered through the touchscreen, which takes longer than a traditional sushi restaurant anyways. I’ll probably try it again, but this is the second time with the same experience with no sign of improvement.

Lives to its name, revolving sushi on one line and you can order other things and it’ll arrive on another conveyor belt. Quality is decent if you get something someone else wants too.

Love the fun concept of conveyer belt sushi that carryover from Japan. Kura is from Japan so they are doing it right.
After a while you will realized that they don't put a lot of ingredients in the sushi. The shape and size is also not very nice. They serve a lot of sushi with cooked fish, I think it is because their fish is not very fresh. Cooked fish like seared salmon is good though. It is still a cool experience to come but to get a good value and quality, you have to go to a sushi restaurant or Japanese grocery store like one world or Noble fish. About $3.80 a plate, udon is about $8. Most of the sushi are good. Not top quality of course but good enough. Some fish is a little old but I guess I can't complain too much
Overall good dining experience

Great spot! Robots serving drinks; conveyer belt sushi; everything is delicious, and fast! Best spot for a quick meal or catching up.

Follow-up: Turns out, this place entirely falls apart when they get too busy. It seems they will take more orders than they can complete, leading to long waits, inaccurate text alerts and a lot of excuses. Only come here when time is not a concern.

Cool idea regarding sushi on a conveyer belt. I would not come back for the food, cold, over sauced, $4 for pop. Give it a try if you want to see the experience. I would go somewhere that has better sushi and pay a bit more but I would enjoy the food.

The food is reasonable, but obviously when you're eating food that's being produced en masse without a specific table ordering it, it's never going to be as good. The experience is fun though, especially if you want to try a lot of new things to see what you like. The price is almost unconscionable for the amount of food you're getting. So it's fun, the food tastes good, even if it lacks polish, but the price is prohibitive. Would I like to go back? Yes, probably. Will I go back? Probably not, simply because I can't afford to.

One of our favourite spots when we want a lil bit of everything! The soft shelled crab is life, and I always get at least 2. The roe, noodles, and fries (yes the fries) are must haves.
It can get loud in there so keep that in mind. Sometimes it's a bit chilly so bring a light jacket or sumn.
At times you'll wait a bit for something you really want to make it's way to you on the conveyor belt but it's cool bc you can EASILY go ham on those lil plates, increasing your bill, and waistband, more than you planned.
Call ahead to put your name on the list and find out wait times, bc it can get busy

Fried takoyaki is frozen inside and not recommended. Sushi is pretty good and fresh. Love their sushi with sashimi on top. But it’s kinda slow to get more sushi. We wait the belt revolving at least 3 rounds then there’s two new plates ready to take. Like other reviewers said, you need to wait about 1 to 2 hours for dinner, so download the app and add yourself to the waitlist in advance.
Update:
The appointment is a joke. Wait another 30 minutes after the original time and people after us were sent to the table before us

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kura Sushi and I must say, the experience was nothing short of exceptional, thanks in large part to the servers and especially, Shams. From the moment we were seated, Shams's warm and welcoming demeanor set the tone for an unforgettable meal! The service was impeccable throughout the day. He went above and beyond to make our day special, even surprising us with the robot saying happy birthday to my son and bringing a dessert . It's clear that Shams and his peers take great pride in their work and care deeply about their guests' experiences. We are for sure coming back next time!!!

I was treated to a birthday dinner with my wife and close friends here for my first experience and was so pleasantly surprised to partake of the unique conveyor belt delivery system! The plate "coin" deposit game was admittedly pretty fun, too. The cherry on top however, was having a complimentary bowl of icecream delivered by a cute little singing robot server! This poor robot was running drinks all evening and had a mishap at the corner (hence the 4 of 5 stars for Atmosphere) but otherwise we had such a fun time, and a shout out to Reagan who went out of her way to make us all feel special!

Conveyor belt sushi is a novelty, but overall, I wouldn't go back a second time. The expected wait when we arrived was 15 mins, and despite numerous empty tables, we actually waited for 45 mins before being seated. If they were using people for servers, I could understand this delay, but not in a restaurant that depends on conveyors and robots for service. The food was on par with sushi I would expect from a grocery store. The tables and eating area were not well cleaned. It was a bit pricey for the quality, and it's clear that the restaurant is largely depending of the novelty of the concept.

Booths are worn out and super uncomfortable. The group on the other side kept bashing into my seat my entire meal. The bathroom sink was broken. By the time I was done I just wanted out. This was our first trip to a revolving sushi bar. It was a really fun experience, and we will definitely be back!

Heads up: the music is fairly loud, and it is very cold inside. I would bring a light hoodie and, if you're sound sensitive, bring your earplugs. The lighting was comfortable.

If you don't like interacting with people, this is a great option to dine out. A lil robot brings your drinks (careful, they will slosh a little) and all food is brought via conveyor belt

The wagyu was especially good.

We will be back.

This experience was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Reservation. Early. No table. Told 10 minute wait. Actually 20 minutes wait. Ended up taking counter because, ya know, hungry. The portions, smaller. The price, higher. The person sat next to us, smelled so offensive we immediately checked out and left. The staff, incompetent. The ambience, unfortunate. The tip, why tip a robot? The mere existence of this restaurant is an offense to good taste. Save yourself the time and money and disappointment and go to a proper sushi restaurant that serves by the roll.
