Sakura Japanese Steakhouse

Food was good. Our server wasn't rude, but she wasn't friendly. She sent Our app to the wrong table. All our food got to our table at separate times. She forgot one of the main entrees, then forgot to bring out the side that went with it.
Womens bathroom was gross. Needs to be deep cleaned and the first stall needs to be fixed. The lock was broke so it had toilet paper shoved into the hole. There was no toilet paper in the dispenser. There was just a roll sitting on top of the toilet.
Eventhough the food was good the service wasn't good enough for us to be back

We went for a late lunch and were really disappointed by the quality and cost of the food. For $28 I would've expected a lot more steak and meat overall. And, sadly, the meat was dry. To top it off, the whole meal was cooled and barely warm (except for the rice, it was hot). We did not have the hibachi experience (starts at 4pm), we ordered hibachi from the menu. Our waitress was very friendly, we just didn't see her too much.

The bento boxes and lunch plates were so tasty! We loved the beef lo mein. I wasn’t a big fan of the chicken teriyaki, but my hubs enjoyed it. My sushi rolls were really tasty. I liked the rangoons, my hubs didn’t. He liked the spring rolls, I didn’t. So some of it was a wash. This said, we will definitely be back for lunch specials and lo mein! (We didn’t get to try the fried rice bc we were accidentally given white rice instead).

We went there for our twins 18th birthday last night. We loved how bright it was in the area we were sat in. It also seemed to be very busy for a Thursday night, which we thought was a very good thing walking in because people must have liked it to go there on a weeknight. We had great table service. Greeted right away and got the drink orders. Came back with the drinks promptly and took our orders. The chef came out right after that to get started with the cooking. All the food was seasoned and flavored perfectly. We were very impressed with the whole experience

TLDR: service is hit or miss here but the sushi is always good!

I visit semi regularly, and while sometimes the service is great, this particular visit we were met with long wait times and the feeling that maybe we were forgotten, despite the fact that the restaurant appeared to not be busy. We did not sit at the hibachi tables, but rather in the dining room.

I ordered a coconut ginger mojito which I very much enjoyed! I’m not a huge fan of coconut, especially if it’s in chunks, but the flavor of the coconut was pleasantly balanced it by the ginger and mint. I don’t remember what he ordered, but I think it was the See You Tomorrow. I remember he enjoyed it, whatever it was ! 🤪

For our appetizers, I ordered the miso soup for myself- always a favorite- and we ordered the soft shell crab tempura and the gyoza. It’s been a very long time since I’ve straight up NOT liked something, and the soft shell crab tempura broke that streak. It was fishy, strangely textured and very unsavory. Neither of us liked it- BUT- gyoza for the win!! 🤤 They were tender and delicious.

He had the hibachi filet mignon and shrimp (he was pleased) and I ordered the Golden roll and… some other roll that I can’t remember… my bad for being unhelpful! But honestly every sushi roll I’ve ever had here has been amazing and a try something different every time! So just try something and I’m sure you’ll love it 😊.

I’m sure I’ll be back soon and I’ll update this review with more images and food reviews.

I love coming here, but last night was definitely interesting. We had a reservation at 5:30, didn’t get sat until around 6pm. Once we were sat, the hosts were very rude. There was apparently too many people at the table they sat us at and made it seem like it was our fault. It took about 15 minutes for them to figure the situation out. Our server and chef were amazing though. Maybe the hosts need to realize and apologize for their mistake instead of being rude to the customers.

Wow!!! Where to start!!!? It was amazing delicious!! Yummy!!! 😋 We had tuna roll to start yum! Comes on a little boat plate!! Devoured that. Then on to our entrees. I had (I know not an entree) still delicious the Kani spicy salad so good. And the my child had the pork ramen she loved it. Only could eat a quater of it and my hubs had the general sou chicken. You will leave here full!! And there is enough people to spread the joy of the food.

I have been to many show cookings but, the one we had Christmas Day was amazing. Our chef had our four kids so attentive to him. Made jokes and lots of fun with us. He made our dinner very memorable for our whole family all nine of us.

Best thing about this was egg drop soup.

Hibachi was not open yet so we did sit down:

4 meals at 28.00 each

3 hibachi (kitchen) steak & chicken
1 hibachi (kitchen( chicken & shrimp

All of the chicken was overcooked, dry & cold.
Shrimp was cold
Steak was cold & flavorless

Why were 28 00 meals cold????
The rice was warm.

Very disappointing as they were not busy.

We got there at 2:55 & didn't place our order until waitress came at 3:20.

Steaming good food, great quick service. Covid conscious and friendly staff. Hibachi grill available( recomended reservations recomended) casual Dine in has no reservation requirmeants. Clean dishes, tables and comfurtable seating. The food is very fresh and unique. For my first time visiting I am for sure gonna go again. Take out also available, the food is the worth cost. For sure recomemded for first dates or new dates. Beautiful building with a good views. (Edited: last time I went a few weeks back, there was a mouse in da house.)

The sashimi was not good. However our only other experience with it was Miami so maybe that's why. I'm sure it's fresher there. Sushi was just ok. Both were overpriced for what you get. However our main entrees were delicious. Our server was ok, not great though. She never cleared a dish from our table and we had to get her attention to ask for refills and it wasn't crazy busy. She was super sweet though. We probably won't go back, however we don't go to the Grand Rapids area often anyway.

Such a great hibachi experience! I have a shellfish allergy, and our server went above and beyond to let the chef know about my allergy. To add on to that, the chef was also very helpful and accommodating to my allergy. He waited until my non allergy items were cooked (rice, noodles, veggies, steak and chicken) to put any shellfish or seafood items on the grill. He also used separate utensils and was VERY kind! I had a great experience and will definitely be visiting again!

The one complaint I do have, is the host staff wearing basically bikini tops as shirts to work. I thought it was very trashy and unprofessional, especially in a family dining setting.

Second time here. Wated about :40 minutes for a table. Sat at the bar. Only one bartender on duty and her attitude showed how short staffed they were. She told us just yell when we were ready, she didn't have time to check on us. The service was slow, they forgot my wife's sushi order and after being reminded twice we finally got it after the rest of uswere finished. They discounted the roll $2.60. The Hibachi experience was lack luster and didn't have much flavor. The atmosphere was too loud to hear anything.

Been here 3 times. Food was so good, service from the servers was great, all for a great price too. This past time I came in, the hostess or whoever was sitting at the front didn’t know what time they closed and tried to turn us away as we came towards the end of the evening. Thankfully we double checked with another staff that they were still open for another hour and we were able to sit down. That was rather off putting. Overall, food is always great, I would recommend. Just had that weird experience this one time.

I've been debating on writing this review, but my two sisters, her boyfriend, and I all decided to eat at this Sakura place at around 4 pm on a Thursday. It wasn’t busy at all; we were probably the only customers there at the time. Anyways, our server sat us at a table in front of the bar. It was pretty dark and cold there, so we asked our server if we could move to a booth instead. She immediately told us that there wasn’t a booth big enough to fit five of us. We corrected her that there were only four people because my sister counted wrong. But the moment we mentioned moving to a booth, her whole demeanor changed, and she looked like she was annoyed. In the end, she did move us to the booth near the door leading outside. While walking to the table, I noticed how all of the other booths were wiped down except the one she sat us at. It was dusty, and flies were constantly swarming us. We had to ask for extra napkins to wipe down our table because of all the dust on it. I just think we got there on a bad day, but I don’t know. I probably wouldn’t come back here. The sushi that I got was quite good, but the steak that my sister's boyfriend got was pretty eh. The only thing that really irked me was the way our server changed the moment we asked about moving to another table.

Went for lunch. 1 server for the entire restaurant. Not a manager or anyone to help in sight. The server did the best he could under the circumstances. Food has gone downhill, used to love this place. Took over 20 min to order, never got our soup or salad, sushi was not up to par. Very disappointing.

Amazing place with a calm atmosphere and amazing people the service was good the food is amazing but can come out with a weird aftertaste from time to time a bit on the more pricy side they can accommodate for large groups and this is just the surface the bathrooms on the males side were relatively clean and well maintained I know it sounds like I'm trying to talk down on the restaurant but I can't honestly think of things that they can improve on every negative thing I just mentioned can be applied to all restaurants but what matters is if you want an authentic experience a date bachelor party or simply want to enjoy a night out this is the place you'd want to pick

Food is good, wouldn't say great but def not bad. The chefs are fun and entertaining. Service is sometimes lacking. Often left with drinks waiting to be refilled. Atmosphere is as you would expect with any hibachi experience. Regular dining is actually a nicer more comfortable experience then around the grill areas. More because of seating and space. Myself and 2 children were seated with 12 other people around 1 grill. Definitely was too many people. Overall still not bad. Positives outweigh the slight negatives for sure. Would return again.

I have had the same problem the last two or three times I've been there, they are overlooking the seafood on the hibachi. The shrimp was rock hard, the scallops were chewy and the lobster was rubbery. It seems they have changed up the way they are grilling because I've watched them massacre the food. What's going on Skakura?

Even or our waitress was super sweet and awesome! When she bring our main dish out what would she bring her dish out she knew we were sharing a dish and she didn't bring us plates to eat our food with I had to go ask and I had to go ask for a spoon to serve up our food,we came there about a half an hour after our opened for the day and there weren't but a few people in there and yet the two well the doors to enter the place had fingerprints galore like they never been cleaned, outside that I mean the overall was clean there.

Really disappointed with food quality. Ordered Chens Roll specifically because it had all that I liked WITH Tobiko and ordered EXTRA Tobiko. Picked up our order NO Tobiko on the roll nor the extra side I paid for. Called the store and had to fuss to get a tiny credit of $2 instead of driving back 15 minutes, 1 way! So tired of no customer service and sub-standard food preparation these days!!!

We sat at the sushi bar this time. Sushi was mediocre at best and costs a bit more compared to other sushi restaurants. We've eaten here before and the other food was fantastic. Their sushi is our only complaint. I can't remember the names of the rolls but one was completely flavorless and the others just were not good. We eat sushi elsewhere at least once a week, the problem wasn't us. All staff members were great.

Be honest about your wait times. We were told the wait would be 20-30 minutes. We did not get seated for almost two hours. Even after getting the alert that the table was ready, there was another wait to actually be seated. This all seems to be the norm as other reviewers have said the same thing. Very frustrating!

Tried to go again called ahead and were told they were doing hibachi all day got there and were told 1 hour wait and theat we needed a reservation and when I asked why they didn't mention a reservation on the one they rolled their eyes at me. I won't be back

Tried to go twice now for hibachi, 1st time there was a 3 hour wait and the 2nd time we were told we had to wait to see if another group showed up because we had 3 adults and 1 kid and they apparently have a rule that you must have 4 adult to do hibachi. Both visits the hostess seemed bothered to have to do their job and didn't ever look up when speaking to us.

I am just passing through the area with my PSD and not only were the staff and owner very welcoming to my friends and I but her as well. A great time was had by all for sure and schatze got spoiled with some extra pieces of steak for dinner. The food was great, the entertaining and interacting way the food is prepared was very enjoyable, he included everyone, adult and child alike in the cooking process. My anxiety was really high when we arrived and within minutes of sitting down the atmosphere was calming enough to where I was able to relax, I left in a different mood then when I went in..I was relaxed, with a smile and FULL, they give you so much food! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What an amazing experience. Laughed, talked with strangers like i had know them my entire life, and it was the best food I have ever had! I can not wait to go back.

I don't find this place to be worth the money. Food quality and portions are just not there for what they are charging. We went there last night with a group of 10 for a birthday. The chef does not divvy out all of the food fairly, giving some people a heaping plate full of food and the rest with very skimpy portions of side items and meat. My wife and I both got the hibachi steak and chicken. We definitely got skimped on the portions compared to a couple of others at our table. The chicken was way over cooked and dry, and the steak was overcooked as well despite him asking us how we wanted it prepared. The hibachi chicken and steak meal is $28.00 and you get one small chicken tenderloin and half a small new york strip steak for that price. 6-7 ounces of meat is about what we were served.

Also, diner beware when the time comes to pay your bill...When the check comes there is no gratuity added to your itemized bill. When they take your card to swipe it they will add the gratuity at that time - after you've already viewed the bill. They will bring the bill and card back with a handwritten spot on the receipt for an additional tip. While I didn't mind them adding gratuity to the bill, i'd like to see it added on the itemized bill the server presents you for payment. This is a very deceiving practice that opens up the opportunity for customers to double tip which I'm sure happens often; as two people in our party didn't catch it and likely double tipped last night. Our service was good, but not that good!

Our total bill was $70.00 for two hibachi meals with water to drink and no appetizers - $35 a piece. Totally not worth the price for the skimpy portions of everything and overcooked meat. You're better off going to a Chinese buffet that has a build your own hibachi option - more bang for your buck there. We don't mind paying good money for good food but it's got to be top notch and for their prices it just misses the mark.

I’ve traveled 36 states in America and been to hibachi places in half the states I’ve been to.

This is, heads down, my favorite of all.

I’ve been here multiple times and every time is as good as the first time. Food is just great.

Most hibachi places do the same set up. The Asian dude playing with the utensils, the onion flame, etc etc etc.

Food is what’s great about this place. The hibachi experience is what you would expect, but the food is just delicious.

You get an absolute obscene amount of delicious food.

You won’t regret getting double yam-yam sauce. It’s just fantastic.

Big fan of this place. You may need to get a reservation cause it gets busy.

Waitress spilled hot soup on my child. No compensation. No one else in the restaurant we had to wait 30 min to be seated. We were verbally assaulted by the only guest at the bar on our way out.

Then 2 employees ran out after us, thinking we didn't pay the bill. When the cash was on the table.

Was invited here for my daughter's 25th birthday. Truly an entertaining and delicious meal. I had so much food I had to take half of it home. Our chef was very entertaining and treated us very well. The waitress was superior as well. My only complaint is the seats are very hard, but was able to remedy that with a cushion we had in our car! A small sacrifice to pay for a fun and tasty dinner.

The food was pretty good. Sammon was overcooked so was my husband red snapper is overcooked and we felt rushed and it's hard to talk to the people in your group sometimes My drink was good but I wish I had a spoon to get the stuff out of the bottom

Went out for hibachi with family (4 adults; 3 kids), and everyone had a great experience. The "show" from our chef was engaging and fun, and the food was good, as well-- huge portions. Overall, a good value for the price!

Keeping it short and simple, food was great especially their sushi! Definitely recommend this place for a family outing and or celebration. Regarding dining in and not hibachi service was okay their dress code has definitely gone down. Waitresses wearing leggings and crop top t-shirts while host wear lowwwww cut shirts and sweat look alike pants. Mistakes were made with our order not a huge deal they were super busy so understandable. Over all great experience.

Absolutely worst service I’ve experienced. Server dropped off water and walked away before we could even order. Once we finally did order the food was subpar at best. Server did not bring soy sauce then when we flagged her down to ask for some she grabbed a bottle off a dirty table and without even wiping it down gave it to us with no dishes to pour it into. Halfway through our meal the bill was placed on our table, making us feel rushed out the door. We paid in cash and were given incorrect change back. When we brought it up we were told she “didn’t have the correct change,” then she just walked away. There were dirty tables all around us as well. Overall horrible experience.

My family and I went there on Friday, March 22, around 7:00pm. The place was hopping and packed; we even had difficulty finding a spot to park. When we went in, I saw a lot of people waiting to get in the hibachi area. But my family and I didn’t even have to wait that long because we were dining in.

Our waitress, Autumn, greeted us and she was great! She was kind, very friendly, and attentive and it was great to have her as our waitress. We ordered our food and within 15-20 minutes, we received our order! I thought we had to wait at least over 30 minutes for our food because it was so busy in the restaurant. Plus, my brother and his friend each ordered a Bento box (see pictures). I’m thinking there might be some ninja working as chefs in the kitchen. Hmmm…

We ordered Miso Soup, Seaweed Salad, Yaki Udon with vegetables, Teriyaki Salmon Bento Box, and Teriyaki Shrimp Bento box. My brother and his friend ordered some cocktails too. When my brother and his friend received their bento box, they were surprised to see how big it was for a reasonable price. My Yaki Udon noodles were very tasty and flavorful!

The atmosphere was good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to celebrate their birthdays or anniversaries with their friends or loved ones. I’m not sure if you want to bring a newborn baby or an infant there because it’s very loud.

I would definitely bring my husband here in the future. He’ll enjoy it very much! The restaurant has good service, reasonable price, great food, and good atmosphere.

It's not a great place to eat. Everything felt subpar. I dined in, no hibatchi, the booth I was sitting in had visibly damaged seats. Service was ok, the waitress was nice. The food was terrible. I can't understate it enough. My katsu was too thin and dry and tasteless as cardboard. Looking at it visually, it looked cooked well. However even the panko breading had a burnt flavor to it, most likely fried in old oil. I am super dissapointed with this place, I'm not sure how it is still in business.

If you are gluten free, I do NOT recommend this restaurant. We had called in advance as we were coming for a birthday party and on the phone they made it sound like they have a procedure where they will make it safely in the back and bring it out. It was pure chaos and the server, manager, and chef did NOT understand a gluten allergy or how to be safe with it. By the time we communicated what they needed to do, our food came out and had to immediately be boxed up because everyone in our party was done eating. The manager was extremely dismissive and the entire experience was stressful. I will not return.

We were told there was a 45min wait. After 2.5 hours a customer who was already seated came out to complain that they are waiting over an hour at the table for their food. Then they told someone else "1 hour wait" while I was still standing there after 2.5 hours. Learn how to seat people with a semi realistic wait time. We'll never go back.

This place is over price and the food was bland and I placey order online and the app said 25 min .

I came in 30 min and they didn't even put my order in so I waited another 30 mins and they staff didn't even speak to me or even notice I was there.

If I didn't pay for my food first I should left and the inside of the place is basic looking and unpleasant.

Down from Canada for business. Myself and 3 other collegues stopped in on a busy valentines day. The process was excellent with how they take your number and on a wait list. Was told a 25-30 min wait, but it was really only a 10 min wait. Seated quickly, Brie our server was fantastic! Quick with food and drinks. It was super busy in there and was really impressed with the flow of everything. I have had better sushi, but it was still pretty good. Would eat here again! Thankyou!

Celebrated our parents 55th Wedding Anniversary with my husband Damion our kids and granddaughter, my brother and his kidd. We had 16 people amd thus place was very accommodating. My parents had a wonderful time. So did we and it was just a great experience.

Moving forward, please don’t forget the butter and seasonings, then tell your customers they did something wrong. Wondering how the dried out, slightly burnt, shrimp and dry, burnt vegetables might have tasted, if different cooking methods and seasoning had been used.

Side note, in the reviews cheese cake was given for the Happy Birthday person. Where was my grandson’s?

We when here October 7 2023 for a birthday dinner , the place had definitely seen better days as with just about most Asian eateries today they just seem run down , me and date ordered the sakura speacial that said "feeds 2" $68 , and it came with filet Mignon, lobster shrimp & scallops, 2 other couples ordered the same thing , talk about stretching it thin ! They pulled out 3 filets that were super thin 4 lobster talls that looked like crayfish & about a pound of shrimp , so they didn't lie about you'd get all that they just didn't say it would be a bite !! They took the already small meats and cubed them all up and gave us all a couple pieces literally , it's a no go for me

Always love watching the performances. The cooks are highly entertaining and will give you some good laughs. Food is always good as well. Young kids are always mesmerized by the performances. Especially the parts with lots of fire.
