Currently eating here right now and was curious about the reviews because wow I am impressed! Very cute inside, good music, tasty fresh food with great presentation. Love the choices on the all you can eat menu and the Monkey Roll with fried bananas was literally the best sushi I've ever had. We'll be back.

TLDR: When “All you can eat” threatens to fine you over leftover pieces of sushi, probably don’t go for it…

This was my first visit to any Nagoya location, and I came here because of an ad I got in the mail- all you can eat sushi! It intrigued me, so we decided to visit.

The first off-putting thing was that the mastic was very low and the actions of the staff were very LOUD, as you can hear from the banging in my video. The longer we sat there, the more staff came out to pile items and boxes on the bar, talk loudly and do apparent repairs on the restaurant. Not a very appetizing environment.

We ordered drinks- an old fashioned and a mango sangria- both exceptionally strong, which, for his old fashioned was appreciated, but I couldn’t finish my drink. I surmised that all drinks ordered there would be equally strong and otherwise “untasty”, so I ordered a hot tea which was basically lukewarm.

We ordered some appetizers: 3 pieces crab Rangoon, 2 egg rolls, 2 shrimp tempura and 2 crab tempura. All of it was not great- think GFS quality.

When we went to order rolls, we noticed the section detailing the “leftover food charge”:

While recognizing that there are many people who probably leave some food behind, outright charging people for not being able to finish 2 rolls is absurd. I ended up only ordering one roll, because I was afraid of not being able to finish 2, out of fear that I’d have to pay double what any of the food was worth. I was so hungry, I forgot to take a pic of the sushi 🤦🏼‍♀️- but honestly it wasn’t good enough where I’d ever return to this place, seeing as how filthy, loud, and lacking in good service it was, on top of the threats of charging customers for each piece of rice leftover 🤣.

The dessert was good- again buffet style GFS quality and very tiny, so we each ordered 2 desserts.

Overall, I suppose if you can eat a lot, this might be worth it, but I’d rather go to a Chinese buffet- at least there you can get what you expect quality wise and don’t have to worry about extra charges appearing on your bill 😎.

It was my first time at this Nagoya location since this place looked a bit better than the one on 28th street. Be warned, though, they do not validate your parking if you decide to park inside the structure.

It is hard to find a decent AYCE sushi nowadays, especially a place that offers sashimi! I was skeptical about it at first compared to the price of how reasonable it is for AYCE sushi. OMG, I was very impressed with everything this place has to offer. The sashimi was very fresh; the food came out quickly; and the service was very reasonable. Though, one thing I did notice that the fish-to-rice ratio for the nigiri was a bit questionable. Since you already offer sashimi in AYCE, I would hope and expect the rice portion should be a bit less for the nigiri. Otherwise, I like this place and will come back for a second time!

So far, it is the best all you can eat sushi place in the Grand Rapids area for both quality and price. Unlike other ayce places, rolls are not over-packed with rice even after several orders for all the 3 times I have been here. Despite the limited selection, the fish quality is at least equal or better than made-to-order sushi restaurant around the area, especially the salmon, squid, yellowtail, and eel. Aside from the fish, you get a selection of appetizers such as soup and tempura. Overall, the price of $24 is a steal for a sushi dinner of this quality

I recently visited Nagoya Hibachi Sushi Restaurant and was blown away by the experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff who made me feel right at home. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with traditional Japanese decor and music setting the mood.
I started off with a sushi platter and was impressed by the freshness and quality of the fish. Each piece was expertly crafted and tasted delicious. Next up was the hibachi grill, and the chef did not disappoint. The showmanship was top-notch, with flames shooting up and a dazzling display of knife skills. And the food was just as amazing - the steak was perfectly cooked and the vegetables were seasoned to perfection.
Throughout the meal, the staff was attentive and made sure that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. To top it all off, the prices were very reasonable for the high-quality food and service.
Overall, I highly recommend Nagoya Hibachi Sushi Restaurant for anyone looking for a great Japanese dining experience. The combination of excellent food, friendly staff, and cozy atmosphere make it a must-visit for anyone in the area.

If you haven’t been to an AYCE (all
you can eat) sushi place … then come check this place out. The price is very reasonable at $23.95 per person for the dinner AYCE. The chef was very professional and did a great job with our food. Quality was top notch as the sashimi was super FRESH! Service was fantastic even though it was super busy. We had a party of 20 people and food came out fast and tasted great all the way around. The place is pretty small so make sure you make a reservation if you have a large group we did and it turned out great. We will have to come back for the Hibachi and for some more delicious sushi!

Nagoya (downtown) is one of my favorite sushi places in Grand Rapids. Great quality and great price for all you can eat sushi! The rolls are well-balanced without too much sauce but a lot of flavor. I would recommend trying the crunchy crab and red dragon rolls when you stop by!

I thought it was good. Idk what you expect when you get an “all you can eat” it’s perfectly reasonable to charge for leftovers to prevent waste.

We worked with Henry and his chef Brandon to travel to South Haven for a hibachi 70th birthday dinner. I can’t say how fabulous everything was from the food to the service. Highly recommend!!

I'm loving Nagoya's lunch special. My favorite roll by far is the sweet potato roll.

The sushi was quite disappointing. Size matters. For the price, I was expecting the rolls to be bigger, especially the size of the special rolls. I got 2 special rolls (outside rolls) and 2 classic rolls (inner rolls). The Tiger Roll (rightmost roll) was the size of the classic rolls and was about double the price. I've gotten more meatier/bigger rolls in the area for similar, if not same, price. There was barely any meat in the classic rolls.

We had Chef Brandon; and let me tell you he did not disappoint! I frequent hibachi restaurants for vacations and special occasions; I think Chef Brandon was my favorite chef I’ve had at a Hibachi Steakhouse. He was hilarious and the food was absolutely incredible. Couldn’t recommend this place more and ask for Brandon! You won’t be disappointed!

It’s difficult to find a nice ayce sushi place in Michigan since I’m from California. But Nagoya has changed my mind with its fresh sashimi and tasty rolls. The price is really affordable. All the salads and appetizers are fresh and delicious, the flavor with sauce is just perfect, not too salty nor too sweet. The display of the sashimi is beautiful. Very good experience and will definitely come back!

This place is amazing. Every other restaurant downtown had closed early due to a snow storm and so we were getting worried about finding a place for food and drinks. The staff welcomed us in and did not rush us out at all. We had fun doing sake bombs, and eating excellent food. I highly recommend this restaurant and company.

Great spot for Sushi and/or Hibachi in downtown GR. We had the sushi boat and it had a great selection of sashimi, sushi and rolls. The fish was of good quality and presented nicely. They have a good selection of sake, wine and speciality cocktails. The people were great as well. Overall, a great experience. Check it out, you’ll be happy you did.

Nice sit down sushi and habatchi restaurant with habatchi tables. They have an all you can eat lunch and dinner menu. The weekend is all the dinner menu. Fees for some items and if you do not finish the food you ordered. Our food was good quality, and Anna did a great job with table service. Walking distance from VanAndel Arena.

I've been a couple times now, very satisfied both times. The sushi isn't the best in town, the service is pleasant but a little unattentive, but it's all you can eat sushi, they could insult me to my face and I'd still be happy to be there. The price is super easy for the amount of sushi you can get, with the added benefit of side dishes if you want something warm. Haven't been to the hibachi side but I bet it's just as good.

The hibachi room is very nice. Really sets the mood for what you expect to be a pleasant dinner. The hibachi chef was very nice although pretty inexperienced which isn’t a big deal at all. When the food was done, my filet was flavorless, my chicken was rubber. And the fried rice was an abomination, mushy and tasted like soy sauce and butter. Was very disappointed with the food quality, I didn’t even take it home. Waste of 150$ unfortunately.

Great little place on the Monroe Mall, specifically that funky little end with 3-4 businesses that faces Fulton/Division.

I had originally planned to get the 18 piece Sashimi Deluxe platter but when I came in they recommended the All-You-Can-Eat option that wasn't on the online menus I saw. It was much cheaper ($24 vs $32) and let me get more....something important since I eat 90% meat at this time(ketovore). Not a buffet type setup, but rather you order what you want from the special menu and they prepare and bring it to you. Having been fasting the previous 48 hours I was going to get my money's worth. :)

The sashimi was really nice and some interesting cuts. I am used to things like the surf clams being whole but these were thin sliced in half. The squid was sliced SUPER thin and rolled beautifully. The spicy crusted tuna was fantastic as well.

I had a couple different deep fried pieces as well, rock shrimp & calamari were both wonderful. The teriyaki salmon and chicken were both cooked very well. Though I am not a saki person, I love lychees and they had a Hana Lychee so I gave that a try....fantastic and a wonderful accompaniment.

My only negative is that it was just a couple of us in the place and it took a long time to get the sashimi each time. I recommend ordering before you finish and order non-sushi/sashimi items before they are gone. If you wait until your 10 pieces (you can pick 10 at a time) of sashimi are gone to order the next round, you will be waiting around 10 minutes for the next set. The cooked stuff comes much quicker though so layering those between helps. :)

We recently moved from Seattle to Peoria, IL so our sashimi options are much lower. Having grown up in GR, it was nice to have a solid place to go when we are visiting family and friends.

I can't say for the 28th Street location but this small place in downtown GR is great and would be a really nice place to go before seeing a show at the Civic Theater just down the street.

I went here for a Christmas party with some friends and it was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I highly recommend. The food is amazing and a great experience. Chef Peter was amazing and was a great person and encouraged us to follow our dreams and was very professional. The place is beautiful and amazing with the decorations. I felt deceived. We went to Nagoya for lunch on Sat 10/28 to try their AYCE for $13.99 based on what they told me that day. I called them 2x to check since I want to try their food and bring 2 guests. When we got there the waiter gave us the dinner AYCE menu for $23.99. He said the lunch menu is only on weekdays. Something they did not tell me when I called.

Therefore not a happy customer. I mentioned this to the waiter but there was no attempt to resolve the matter. Probably could have just left but stuck it out due to my guests. I wrote on the bill about the issue.

They called me later and apologized stating it was their mistake. The employee I spoke with supposedly was not aware of the AYCE deal. If so shouldn’t they have offered to give us the lunch deal since it was their mistake? This is not how you attract customers and be successful in your business. Not a happy customer!!! I rarely go downtown as it is due to parking.

Brought my Brother here as an early birthday lunch. Between him, the wife and me we had, 9 sushi rolls, 9 crab ragoons, 3 gysoa, 2 spring rolls, 2 cream cakes, 2 bowls of miso soup, and 3 hot green teas. 50.69$. The sushi was the best I have had in the area. For 3 people eating so well the price was great. The waitress was very attentive and nice, and the atmosphere was relaxing and warm. Will be back in the future.

We loved our first experience at downtown hibachi! It's an intimate setting with low lights and beautiful nature videos play on the wall. They serve cocktails, wine, beer, along with non alcohol beverages. The hibachi dinner was so delicious, we had the chicken and steak along with crab ragoons. Our chef, Peter, was so lovely and made us feel like family! We will definitely be back!

The food was pretty good we went there on a whim after art prize my mother and my sister-in-law and I I like their sushi I got the Grand Rapids that's really good it's fried it's pretty big I didn't like their fried rice as much it was only okay and the noodles the fried noodles that I got they were only okay too but the sushi is really good there it's pretty expensive though it's really expensive but you should give it a try it's a good place to eat if you're downtown

Can’t say enough praise. This was our second time coming. The first was our anniversary. Last night I brought the whole family. We had ‘Peter’ as our chef. He was absolutely amazing. The kids are still talking about it! Can’t wait to come back!

Great service, my personal favorite sushi spot in GR! onetime they didn’t have 1 of the dishes I ordered and gave me another appetizer for free for the inconvenience. parking is all street, but thats downtown!

We ordered the hibachi dinners. I think I’d give a better rating on food if I hadn’t ordered the scallops. They weren’t good. Everything else was very good. The server and the cook were great. My husband’s shrimp were good.

I can see why some people have a great experience here. We ordered the hibachi chicken and several sushi rolls, and they all tasted great (including the clear soup that came first). We were a little disappointed that the hibachi experience was going to be a 20-minute wait (which we couldn't do with our small kids), which surprised us because they showed "no waitlist" on their website. The food also took a surprisingly long time to come to us. I'm assuming they are experiencing staffing issues, like many restaurants currently. At least the food itself was quite good and the staff were pleasant.

We were seated immediately on a Friday night, which was awesome. Our chef was kind and entertaining as well as attentive to any food restrictions. Every course we had was plentiful and delicious. I would definitely eat here again.

The staff here is amazing, they went above and beyond to make my birthday dinner special. I had the steak and lobster and it was delicious- our hibachi chef was an incredible host. This is a really special spot downtown gr- definitely check it out. I can’t wait to come back for sushi!!

I have been here for sushi and for the hibachi experience. Words don't do justice how delicious everything is and how fun the atmosphere is. The staff is super attentive and I haven't ordered anything that disappointed me yet. This is a hidden gem in Grand Rapids :)

This restaurant provided us with a great hibachi experience, wonderful hospitality, as well as excellent and generous servings of food.

I have come back for sushi and it is fresh, tasty, and creatively displayed.

I plan to continue dining at Nagoya!

This place was recently opened. I personally had a great time! Staff was good and our hibachi cook was very good! It was my four year olds birthday they were very nice and he had a blast. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the downtown area!!!

Wow! We will definitely be coming back. Our waiter was so kind and cool and genuine. The food was delicious!! Quality sushi at an affordable price! Homemade Crab Rangoon and homemade sauces. 10/10! 😁

My husband and I just went there tonight for our first time and it was a great experience! We are happy to have a hibachi option downtown Grand Rapids. The staff was very nice and the food was amazing. Highly recommend and we’ll be back!

The staff was spectacular the food not so much. I ordered take out. Soup broth -no flavor, salad with a lot of brown, gyoza - I have had true Japanese in the country and am from Chicago this was fried costco frozen style not home made ick. Dried rive with little veggies or egg that lacked flavor. No sauces. Steak well done not medium pink centered like I ordered. Best thing was shrimp but no sauces except some flavored mayonnaise. For $40 I was so disappointed because it was supposed to for lunch tomorrow also. I hope in person dining is better. The only savior was the staff the food for someone who eats hibachi a lot and who has been to Japan lacked flavor.

Please Do not waste your money or time especially if you are a person of color. They served us un cooked rice. It wasn’t fully done. They asked if everything was ok, and even after we told them the issue, they didn’t fix it, instead the proceeded to charge us for uncooked rice and their customer service and ability to speak clear English was very poor,

Very pleasantly surprised by this spot. Ordered the house salad, miso soup, a side of rice and the sumo roll. I would have preferred a more gingery dressing for the salad and the miso soup had much too much seaweed. However, the fried rice and sushi were great. Love that they use sushi rice in the fried rice. The sushi tasted so fresh too, something that’s hard to come by in Grand Rapids. Would definitely go back for more sushi!

My fiancé and I genuinely enjoyed our time at Nagoya Sushi! The staff was friendly and gave great service. Also, they were open passed 9pm in Grand Rapids and it was convenient that it was nearby. Makes for a fun date in the city, especially if you have a hankering for some late night sushi.

Visiting GR and decided to stop in for some sushi, but ended up getting the hibachi steak dinner instead. The food was really good and the service was great. They're a new restaurant in town and very pleasant.

We went to Nagoya Steakhouse after being told by another that they didn’t have any openings until 9:30. We walked right in and got seated at the hibachi. Our cook was one who was previously at the other place. He is literally the best cook and is so personable. Nagoya steakhouse is 10x better than the other BY FAR. The experience is more personable and the food is fantastic. I would recommend this hibachi restaurant over any other.

Terrible chef service! food was not good at all, rice was burnt and hard, our food was cold because the chef took long to prepare, too much talking and not focused on preparing our meals the correct way! AND NO ALCOHOL!

Everything was amazing --the service was fantastic (friendly, sweet, attentive), the sushi was top notch and the presentation was out of this world!!
Volcano Roll, Christmas Tree, and Sweetheart Roll were our favorites.
Complimentary cheese cake complete with sparkling candle for a birthday

This is a really good quality restaurant and has the best quality foods that you can eat. There's variety of sushi choices that you can choose from too!!! I was very excited to try this place. The presentation from the food to the restaurant is very lovely. Unfortunately, I felt that the food lacked a bit of flavor, it’s there but not enough. I hope that it was because it was still very early in the day when I ordered. Will try again in hopes of redemption!

Food was good and service were good but man.....you guys need to put exhaust hoods over your grills. Everyone in our party had watering eyes and we all stunk like a oil fryer when we left. I had to take another shower when I got home from it being so bad. The air quality is absolutely atrocious in there. There is so much smoke lingering in the air that it looks foggy. You guys simply cannot rely on your measly HVAC system and the tiny little exhaust fan at the back of the restaurant to do the work on clearing the air. I will never be back if this system does not get upgraded.

The food was incredible! the service was quick and polite. One of the best bento boxes I've ever had, (Teriyaki chicken, came with hot miso soup, spring roll bites, Jiaozi, and California roll). It was more than enough food, especially for the price! Highly recommend Nagoya!

No alcohol at the downtown spot yet, that should be listed online somewhere...NYE dinner was a bust. The place is pretty dirty. Hibachi food was just ok. The ginger sauce taste like Mayo mixed with sweet French dressing. No seasoning on steak or chicken, the seafood looked good but i didn't partake. No noodles with the meal (that was on the menu) the salad is iceberg Lettuce a couple carrots and a Cucumber slice with a watery tablespoon of dressing. I've been to many hibachi style places both high end and mediocre & this was less than.The SMELL...I had to come home and remove my outfit to wash right away. The place isn't vented well where they cook hibachi so you and your clothes absorb it. Wouldn't recommend and won't go back.

Great sushi restaurant with a very friendly staff. We were in the area and craving sushi. This place was close by and new, but it ended up being flawless.

We asked for recommendations on what was popular. All of the rolls were great.

The friendly staff really made the difference. We left with big smiles. Great job!

had a reservation for 7:30 and confirmed with store but they still made us wait 20 minutes upon arrival. waiter completely missed most of my order and took their sweet time bringing it out. the rest of my table had already finished eating. food was only decent.
