I want to start by saying the service was beyond exceptional. I will go back for that if nothing else.

Thankfully though they are more than their service. The atmosphere was incredible with a live jazz band playing at a volume that allowed you to have a conversation with those with you, but also very much enjoy their playing. Made for an outstanding evening.

I have mixed feelings with our food. We went with sushi and it was good. Very flavorful, but nearly impossible to eat as almost every piece fell apart just trying to get it off the plate. Getting the very large pieces in your mouth was just not an option without using your other hand to catch half of it and stuffing it in all caveman style.

Overall we really liked the place and it certainly sits near the top of our list for return trips to Grand Rapids.

We came here for dinner but they weren’t serving what we wanted so we ended up just getting a drink and an app this time. The service was also taking a longer time than usual. Perhaps we will visit again soon, but everything was just a little off on this visit, EXCEPT FOR THE RANGOONS which are always delectable.

This is now the second time in a row that I’ve visited Rockwell where my experience has been nothing short of crap. We come an hour and a half prior to a concert on a Sunday in December. We sit down at the bar rail and essentially order food immediately. The bartender was running behind so someone else came behind the bar and took over while the bartender waited tables. There was plenty of staff on from what I could see. No one seemed to have assigned tables so it appeared that people were not communicating which tables had been taken care of and which ones have not yet been greeted. The guy that took our drink order spilled half of my martini on the bar right in front of me and didn’t even clean it up or make a new one to replace the 1/2 of it that was spilled. I cleaned up the mess by helping myself to bar napkins. He was continuing to make drinks and slinging alcohol quite literally all over the place except the glass it was meant to go in. Just a mess. Then what do you know? Glasses are being broken. All right in front of us. I had to ask 3 times for my water to be refilled before it got refilled. But the people next to us were taken care of and they had glasses 1/2 full! I left my glass right where it was obvious it needed to be filled. What the heck? 45 minutes goes by before we noticed everyone in the bar had gotten their food except us. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and one Brussels appetizer. I ask about our food after 45 minutes and we get told “they’re plating it up right now”. I kid you not, another 20 minutes goes by and we STILL do not have our food. At this point we only have 15 minutes until our concert starts. We ask a THIRD time about the food and get told “oh it’s because it’s Dale in the kitchen on sushi that’s why”…… I’m sorry? What do I care who is in the kitchen? I don’t want to hear the excuses. We were there an hour and fifteen minutes and did not get our food. The bartender comes out and tells us everything “was made incorrectly” and that she will comp our drinks. Which is all we even received in the first place. 2 minutes later l, several plates of sushi were being delivered to surrounding guests. We ordered the spicy California rolls. Quite literally extremely disappointing. We were the only ones in that entire restaurant that received not one thing we ordered besides the drinks. People who came in 30 minutes after us were finished eating by the time we even asked where our food was. We will not be returning. After that experience? We’ve had enough. That’s now the SECOND time in a row this has happened. I used to come here all the time and I’m not sure what has gone wrong the past few years but it’s not good. It’s a shame seeing places you used to love head down the rabbit hole. I have never had an experience like this nor do I leave bad reviews. But this was so far beyond my comprehension it just needs to be addressed. Especially with the staff.

We visited for your first date night service. Food was good, needed more seasoning. We had the charcuterie board, steak, and scallops. It was very bland/simple. Mashed potatoes were dry. Cheese plate was good, minus the turkey. Apple skillet dessert was good a bit runny, would have preferred a thicker sauce. Overall the experience was great and we will definitely do it again.

Food was wonderful and fresh. Takeout portions are smaller than dine in but overall the quality is top notch. All of the food was delicious. Only complaints are that we ordered the 3 taco meal and only received 2 tacos & that we asked for crostini and naan and received crostini and chips with the beer cheese dip.

Also thankful that they were one of the few places that kept their normal hours in the mist of this water situation.

Incredible place. Our wedding venue cancelled 24 hours in advance and they went above and beyond to set up the entire Republic side for our party last minute. They literally saved a wedding.

Amazing service, amazing people, amazing food. Highly recommend to anyone.

We got there and there was only 4 other people there besides staff...I'm sorry but whoever they have cooking there needs to reevaluate their career path, everyone thinks if they add a brioche bun it's gourmet burger, my boyfriend ordered a mushroom and Swiss burger med rare, with fries he got super soggy grocery store fries, burger meat was good quality meat, but no flavor whatsoever, they put lettuce on it that was warm limp and soggy, the bun was dry but soggy where the grease had soaked into the bun, at least his bottle beer was good, I ordered the herb grilled chicken breast with brocolini and red skinned mashed potatoes with a light herb gravy, what I got was two chicken breasts that was permeated with a overly burn taste, the gravy was just drizzled on and bairly any, but was cold and gelatin like with no flavor, the brocolini had the same burnt taste, the potatoes were shaped in a dome shape, but crumpled in a dry pile once I tried to pick it up with my fork, I'm sorry but hospital food taste better I also ordered a Shirley temple, she gave me watered down flat sprite with grenadine and no cherries, when I asked for cherries she brought a shot glass with cherries that looked like they were found behind a fridge a week later, they were a dull mauve color with a wilted look...next time I will save my money and hit the truck stop...

Incredible place. Our wedding venue cancelled 24 hours in advance and they went above and beyond to set up the entire Republic side for our party last minute. They literally saved a wedding.

I love Rockwell Republic! I’ve become a regular there because the bartenders are all super amazing and their daily specials are fantastic. The atmosphere is very laid back and welcoming, and the service has always been great. Whether you want to just grab a drink and an appetizer, or grab dinner, I give this place 5 stars!

We came here for my daughter's 21st birthday dinner on a Monday night for their live Jazz music. Our first time, and definitely won't be our last! Everything was perfect, from the service, the food, the sangria, the atmosphere, and the music! What a special place...thank you for making my daughter's birthday such an excellent experience!

I loved the location and it was close to many locations for Art Prize! The food was really good and the iPad menu was nice to be able to have descriptions and most items had pictures! The server was friendly and the drinks were fun and tasted great!

Ugh. I hardly ever leave reviews but this was so disappointing I feel as though I have to. I used to love this place & I recommended it all the time. This was my first time back in a few years & it was such a bummer. Drinks took forever… One cocktail & a pop. I’m a bartender so I get this can happen, but pretty sure they were sitting waiting for a while because my pop was completely watered down by the ice when I got it. Our server was nice but it took a long time to even get our order put in. Like a good half hour before we could order food… I’m never in a hurry but it wasn’t a busy night so I’m not sure why it was like this. Once we ordered it took close to an hour to get our food. Fiesta fries: decent but soggy. Fried rice: like a microwaveable meal from the grocery store. Dynamite roll: the sugariest sushi I have ever had. We had about half of everything & gave up. Again— I never leave reviews but this felt like night & day from what this place used to be. Sad experience.

Sticky tables. Smelled stale. Outside seating which was the main reason I came here and which is the main draw (tons of pics on Google and their site) was closed on a beautiful 80 degree evening. Probably would have ate more and drank more if outside was open.

Reservations were made for 20 of us. Unfortunately we had one server who managed the bar upstairs, our party of 20 along with everyone in the outdoor patio. Our reservation was at 7 but since our server was so overwhelmed, he didn’t even take our orders until after 8:30. The rest of the restaurant was pretty much empty and after several complaints, no one bothered to come help him. When we did get our food, which was more than two hours after we got there, my husband’s steak had a piece of plastic on it, mixed with the butter on top. The manager was called and he took it to the chef to handle the situation. The chef did come out and personally apologized and remade my husband’s meal and we were not charged for it. We all were very disappointed that no one came to help our server other than one man that did help deliver some of the dishes. The manager never came back to check on us knowing the situation and knowing all of us were very unhappy. We all thought Shane our server, did the best he could under the circumstances. The cook, even though there was an issue, handled himself well and was very apologetic. We were extremely shocked that the manager never came back to maker sure my husband was satisfied with his replaced steak. He never came back to check on any of us. Shane deserves a huge raise for working his ass off last night.

Waited 15 minutes for a table. No problem. Server came relatively quick. I ordered a Pepsi and some sushi, another guest ordered street tacos. The Pepsi oddly enough tasted like green peppers. After waiting 45 minutes for the food, we left. There are better places to go.

Went here for my bday dinner TN and was unfortunately so unimpressed. We heard kinda good things and figured if it's expensive it can't be bad. Service was fine, but the food was like I was to a local pub and ordered a bigger. The steaks were cooked properly, but just not very good, tough, cheap tasting. Burger was overcooked and very underwhelming, sushi was 6/10. Overall just bummed. Wasnt disgusted by any means but would never ever ever return for the price and food

My first time at Rockwell and I had such a great time.

The patio is a vibe. The food was amazing! Miso Shrimp Rangoons as an app and the herb marinated chicken for entree. Absolute 🔥

Shane was our server and he was amazing. Super nice guy and even let us chat an extra couple minutes while he was closing.

Definitely a great first experience.

The kitchen messed up my order and sent out the wrong food. The guac used to be really good and now it is mediocre at best. Also, the sushi is not nearly the quality it used to be and I wouldn’t order it again.

Came on a Sunday at 4 pm no one in the restaurant and it took almost 2 hours to get our sushi. Approached the waitress in a calm friendly manner and she was nothing but rude. Had to go table hopping to find soy sauce as she didn’t bring it and never returned. We needed to be somewhere at 6 so we had to hurry and eat. Will not be back.

I only gave this type of review so hopefully they can change a few things... Went in for a graduation lunch and yes place was busy... But they should have told us they had no air conditioning, and lack of staff happening at the moment... Our waiter ran his butt off... Which obviously we were understanding about... But we finally got our food n ate... We were starving!! After the meal I looked around - EVERYONE had at least half of their meals left on their plates. Not so good... So my advice would be:. To tell customers when you have no air and put them upstairs where heat rises to ... Or lack of staff... Maybe change up the menu... I'm really sorry for this review...

I chose this place for a business meeting. Loved the atmosphere, and I found great options in the appetizer menu . Maybe it was too heavy, but I ended up not ordering anything from the main sushi menu. Drinks were perfect, and I probably would try the main menu items instead.

I held out hope the food was going to be amazing and unfortunately, it was a bust.

We got the sticky cauli, beer cheese dip, and shrimp rangoons. The rangoons were pretty decent, but the other 2, yikes. The dip was half fridge cold and half room temp. The crostinis that came with looked like they had been completely submerged into a vat of oil prior to coming out. And it wasn't mixed well - I felt like I was eating globs of thyme in certain bites, yuck. The cauliflower batter just didn't mesh well with what it needed to do and the flavor was blaaaaand. The white rice was the best part of that dish and part of it was crunchy.

Atmosphere was decent, the bartender was super nice, but swamped due to van andel activity and not enough staff (it was a Sunday night to be fair). Bummed!

I have been going to Rockwell Republic for a long while. I had a horrible experience while waiting for friends. The waiter was do rude to me. Told me as a grown adult I could not go up to the bar. Proceed to speak to in a disrespectful manner. I ended call my friend and having them meet me somewhere else. This was my favorite location I would always invite friend to meet me here for happy hour. This situation took place over 6 months ago and have not been back!

Normally I love Rockwell but this was a bad visit. We waited and hour and half to receive our food, 2 tables that were seated after us were served first. On top of that, the food was cold when it was served. We did at least get hot appetizers and the servers were nice

Tony and Anton are the reason my wife and I come back week after week. We live nearby and of all the places downtown the friendly service of these two gentlemen is what keeps us loyal to Rockwells.

Wow how the mighty have fallen. Rockwell used to be a Great spot! Amazing food. Better cocktails and amazing vibes. After being gone for a few years I returned last night and wow I’m UNIMPRESSED! We sat for 8 minutes before getting greeted and when we finally were greeted we were told we had 5 minutes before we had to order as the kitchen was closing. Even tho the restaurant was open for an additional hour and half. What a strange way to run things. Cocktails took 10 minutes to come to the table despite ordering bottled beer( one of which came out warm!) our food was lack luster I ordered the Wonton nachos and once they arrived I was told they were out of the TNT mix( the tuna and a main aspect of this dish) so despite not having the tuna on my nachos I was still charged 20 dollars for nachos that were just a pico on chips??!!

Well I’m so sad to see how poorly this place is ran and operated now. I used to be here 5 days a week. Can’t say I have any desire to return now!

Placed a pickup order and the staff was wonderful! Always kind and welcoming anytime I come in.

I ordered the sticky chicken but was disappointed in this quality unfortunately.
I've had some great takeout from here in the past but the chicken was very hard to chew and felt very overdone, like it was in a deep fryer for an extended period of time.

Ended up eating the rice and kimchi but both both my partner and I couldn't finish our chicken.

This place has gone down the drain. It used to be a favorite of mine but the entire experience was bad except for the service.
Our table was sticky because it needs to be resurfaced, the table was also wobbly, my chair that I was sitting in was also wobbly and falling apart. The flooring was so gross and also needs to be redone, the entire place was so dirty. The prices are high and the food was awful. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and guacamole dip. The guacamole had zero flavor, we had to add dressings to it to even be able to eat it. Our sushi was just thrown on a plate and fell apart upon trying to pick it up and tasted like mayonnaise. I was so exited to make it back to this place but was sorely disappointed. It was Saturday evening from 5:45-645pm and I understand why the place was not busy like it used to be.

Matthew was wonderful. Great service. The food was spectacular. I loved the miso shrimp rangoon. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Grand Rapids.

The service was great but the food left a lot to be desired. The beer cheese dip was okay but didn’t have much flavor. I had the blackened chicken tacos. They were extremely dry and somehow lacking flavor even though there were numerous toppings. My wife ordered the steak which was also incredibly dry. I doubt we will be back. Certainly not worth the $80 bill.

Edit: It appears Rockwell Republic merely wants to look like they care. I responded to their below request for further information and haven’t heard a thing back…..customer service matches their quality of food.

I wanted the shrimp tacos that I saw on the online menu but they don't serve them any longer. The salted caramel old fashioned was very good, the other drinks were "okay". The table was sticky. We didn't get coaster or napkins with our drinks. The service was very slow, we had people waiting for drink refills. There was something floating in one of the beer glasses. (yuck) "if" we do come back it will be for sushi and an old fashioned. We had a two-year old with us and they first placed us at a tall table with only stool seating, they did move us after we ask.

Ben at Rockwell Republic is amazing and the drinks he makes are fabulous. We had a 30 person group come in at once and he handled it like a pro. We appreciate his kindness and this bar is 10/10

Food was amazing. The 8 ounce Fish and Chips ended up being two huge pieces of fish and easily sharable. We sat at the bar and the staff was very friendly and honest with recommendations.

We sat on their outdoor balcony, and it was great out there! The food was OK. I had the fried rice with chicken and was not super impressed. The service was OK too, pretty slow. Could've been since we were outside, but still. Definitely cool to check out, but I don't think we'll be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, the service was so friendly and the food was delicious. The portions were generous and the drink selection is varied so I'm sure you will be able to find something to enjoy. Sushi and more traditional bar fare are available. Eat at the bar or at a table, but the atmosphere is cozy and the wood accents throughout give it a warm and inviting feel.

Prices are wild for the portions. I almost can't believe you serve that iceberg salad for that price. Rethink your pricing on iceberg lettuce, please. Also, I do not appreciate the way you serve sushi for 2x the price of other locales. The service was pretty good! It's just that I feel ripped off the last three times I've been there. I'm sorry, I don't like to be mean, but I had to tell my truth.

I also feel crammed on the first floor, but that's just the building. So no worries really.

Such a treat to eat in a beautifully restored old building with elegant touches. Kane was our gracious server and made sure we had everything we needed. He was also friendly and liked to chat with us. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I really wish they would bring back the grilled romaine lettuce head. I had it years ago and it was really really good.

We ate in the busy, loud, downstairs bar. Service kind of just went through the motions, with no real feeling of being waited on. Long wait for food with no aknowledgement. The tacos were really good, but even that was spoiled by a wrapping string from the beef roast finding its way into a taco. No management came to apologize, though the waitress did not charge for the offended guest's order of tacos. I wouldn't avoid this place if someone else wanted to go there, but I'd probably choose somewhere else, personally.

I normally love this place but they keep changing the ingredients in the dishes. Like the shrimp, it’s awful now. The dynamite roll was my favorite and now the shrimp is gross and chewy. Felt like I was eating rubber.

Good vibe and atmosphere. Due to my diet I couldn’t try what I wanted🤷🏾‍♂️. But I will be back, I enjoyed the veghead sushi roll as sugar ray someday’d me away.

Friendly service and a nice atmosphere. But my steak was just meh. They cooked it right, but it tasted like they didn't season it. I mean come on, at least add some salt and pepper. Also the fries were laid out on top of some fry sauce smeared on the plate. So if you don't like fry sauce (ketchup and mayo) too bad 'cause at least half of them are contaminated. The wife got sushi, and didn't have any complaints though.

Visited here while in town recently and had some pretty bomb sushi and shrimp rangoons. We did have a considerable wait though before getting a table just after 1pm, and it didn't look very busy. We almost didn't go here for that reason, and then the hostess showed up. Not sure what was going on, but the food was pretty good!

Long time regular for lunch and sometimes in the evenings. Great new crew here: Tony, Ben, Mikey, Kayley, Katie, Becca, and Anton. I have been coming here since opening night. love this lineup. My friends and I came in on the 4th and LOVED this place. Tony was our server. He was extremely friendly, and made sure to explain some drinks (he made sure I knew that some had egg whites). One of my friends had her young son and he also made sure we knew there was a kids menu

I recently saw that Rockwell's was back on uber eats, and I was so excited. Today ordered the sticky chicken (my favorite) and chicken fingers for my little one, to my surprise the chicken I got was just cut up chicken fingers, this is not how it was prepared in the past. Not to mention how thin the chicken fingers are too. Please prepare it how you used too, it's insulting that it's $16 dollars for the sticky chicken and then my kids chicken fingers were $8, and it's the same freaking thing. Flat, probably from the bag frozen, and fried.

Excellent place all around. Ordered the guacamole and a sushi roll both on happy hour and both were excellent. Service was impeccable. Our server Shane was always in communication with us while he was in-between serving other customers. He was also extremely friendly and helped us with finding places to go around town! Great place to start out our Grand Rapids trip.

Well, after four years, I rated it a full five the last time we visited, which was a lot before covid... we returned in 2023. The menu is... Well. The sushi, okay it's fine. But it's not a sushi restaurant, so don't expect a menu in that. There is a lot though. That is normal priced.

Sadly, the salads are non existent and an insult to salad lovers. And the main dishes are well over $30. And, honestly, yes they look good, but there is a very few. This place is great for atmosphere and drinks. But that is it. Don't expect a specific dinner. Just come to eat anything and you'll be fine.

Ordered the steak and frites with the sauce on the side but was given a well done steak with sauce on the fries. I wasn't asked if I wanted the steak cooked in a certain way and my waiter never came in time for me to tell her that the food was not prepared right. I was confused because usually when an entrée is $45, they would ask you all the necessary questions to make things right. Usually never upload reviews but this really was an interesting experience.

Nice vibe inside with the dark wood interior and big front windows for lots of daylight. Just popped in for burgers and a few beers so nothing fancy but it all came out great and our server Mike did a great job.

The place isn't being maintained very well. Our table was broken, one of the chairs was broken, and the vents need to be cleaned. Some paint wouldn't hurt either.

My husband and I have been going to Rockwell’s for over 7 years. Our favorite thing to order is Sticky Chicken. Since Covid, our order of this has been very inconsistent. For example we have gotten great portions of chicken/rice, sometimes not enough sauce on the chicken, dry chicken, to most recently yesterday, receiving about 5 small pieces of chicken and really dry white sticky rice, leaving us both still hungry. The bill rung up to be more than $40 just for two orders of Sticky Chicken. We don’t mind paying this but the lack of food and inconsistencies with cookery may have us not coming back as this has happened to us too many times.

This used to be a staple spot to bring friends visiting town, or for date nights. Recent menu changes including a raised set of prices, and removal of all but about a handful of options was disappointing to say the least. Likely won’t be back again unless changes are reverted and more variety is brought back into the menu. Would be an okay experience if you’re just looking for a cocktail or two.
