Happy New Years everyone!
My friends and I had one of the most amazing dining experiences this evening. I made reservations with Jack earlier in the week, and Storm was our amazing server. Street parking only but many open spaces are available.
We opted in for the traditional Japanese dining experience, so we took off our shoes and footies are provided if needed. You technically sit on the floor but the foot space is lowered. It was such a new and unique experience that we all enjoyed.
For appetizers we started off with some Spicy Edamame (not pictured), Takoyaki which was fantastic, and the Kimchi Potatoes which were such a crowd favorite.
We also ordered drinks such as the Lychee Martini, Old Fashion, and a nice assortment of Sake. We all loved our drink orders. I also love that they offer flight options for those who want a taste of everything.
We all heard great things about the sushi, and even with high expectations I was blown out of the water. I’m a huge Eel fan, so the Black Dragon Roll with Eel, Crab, & Shrimp Tempura was a taste of heaven in every bite. The Tuna Nigiri was some of the freshest raw tuna I have ever had.
The Avocado salad was beyond huge and such a great compliment to our meals. My friend’s Teriyaki Udon with Chicken looked amazing, and my other friend could not stop raving about her Miso-Glazed Salmon.
We were all completely blown away in every aspect. The atmosphere, the culture, the hospitality, and the food were just out of this world. Thank you so much Jack, Storm, and everyone else there for everything!

Wow, I don't think I could recommend this place enough. To start the set up and atmosphere was beautiful. I loved the different sitting areas and the bar where you could watch the rolls be made. Service was amazing. My server, I believe, was Storm, and she was so pleasant, spaced out my order beautifully. The food was amazing, and I'm glad I pigged out a bit. First time having Takoyaki, but I always try to get ramen at new places, so I tell you this was probably the best ramen I've ever had. Beautiful presentation, and the broth was killer. I took dessert home, and the cheesecake was fresh and cozy at the same time with spiced apple. If you're looking for a good drink, though, the winter solace tasted like I could order 3 of them and be very happy. Thank you so much to the staff for seating me during such a busy time, too. I would have been very sad to have missed out on this place. Okay rant over, go check them out

Everything was exceptional! Our server was Kayla and she was incredible. She answered all of our questions, made sure our water was never empty, and overall provided top class service. The food was delicious. Definitely get the takoyaki and sushi. The rolls were enormous and the portions were very generous.
We will absolutely be back!

I was sick and craving something simple but hearty. I am very picky about my ramen and although i have had better meat, the broth was undeniable. So rich and flavorful. The packaging for take out was unlike anything i have ever seen. It was like i had eaten in the establishment with the thoughtfulness. I can't wait to go back and try their sushi!

Service is great—the waitresses were very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere is excellent, with three different seating options: one large Japanese-style seating area, three more private tables, and a few standard tables in the middle. The lighting is pleasant as well.
I went for happy hour and ordered the spicy edamame, a miso soup, the Chirashi bowl, the Ruby Roll, and the Bash Special roll. The edamame and miso soup were great, though a bit salty. The fish in the Chirashi was good, though there was a slight hint of fishiness. But, I mean, when you’re in Detroit, you can’t really expect fresh-caught tuna. The sushi rolls were excellent—I really enjoyed the Ruby Roll, especially the bit of charred flavor on the fish. The Bash Special roll was good, but it was mostly the sauce and the jalapeño on top that gave it flavor, rather than the contents of the roll itself.
One thing that did bother me was the wasabi. Now, I’m no wasabi connoisseur, but I enjoy it a lot. I’ve had both real and imitation wasabi, and this was just bad wasabi. It seemed old, and the texture was off—it wasn’t a paste but more crumbly than anything. I lived in Japan for four months and never saw wasabi like that, and I’ve lived in Michigan all my life and never been served wasabi like that either. At a price point of around $100 after the 15% happy hour discount, tax, and tip, I feel like they could afford to use higher-quality wasabi. (I attached a video of the wasabi)

This is the very first review of a restaurant that directly involves a relative. I am very proud of my nephew, Dan, the head chef, as this is a Japanese establishment. Three years ago Dan change the menu to include fresh only supplies nothing frozen Dan created every dish that you see in my photos that were not sushi by his own Brilliant ability to work with food. This is the first time I’ve eaten food prepared by Dan and I was simply amazed. It is absolutely delicious Brandon, the general manager and Jordan our waitress were outs, standing individuals that prepares a surprise anniversary dinner for Dan‘s parents the food that we received was exactly off the menu.
This is a revision of my first review of Dash. My enthusiasm, and what I heard accidentally added miss information in the first review, so I am collecting myself and I hope I do justice in a much better way than I did with my first review, which, of course was excellent.
You walk into luxury when you enter this establishment. It is so customer friendly that you know you were going to enjoy your experience. The sake called Dragon. God sake was the best alcoholic drink I have ever had in my life. It was absolutely delicious eating on the patio. It was fun. Our family was celebrating an anniversary and the boats of sushi was just delightful. This is the best sushi that I’ve ever had , it is many steps above what you would normally get through other Asian restaurants. This was great sushi. The biggest surprise is using the restroom. Each restroom is enough antic, Japanese toilet, each toilet behaves a little differently. And yes, I am correct in saying that each toilet behaves a little differently, as soon as you sit down, the toilet seat is warm. You know that you’re in going to be in for a wonderful unusual experience even in this area just follow the directions and hit the buttons and you will be cleaned and taken care of in no time OK so my grandson was scared of the toilet that’s OK. He said he’s never experienced it either Elphi, the food, the atmosphere and even the restrooms make this an absolutely wonderful establishment and I cannot wait to come back so many choices the unique one-of-a-kind creations of head chef Dan makes this truly a delightful dining experience on Trumbull just looking towards the new athletic facility that’s being built for the basketball team. It is a wonderful place to visit, and another reason why I love Detroit so much to my nephew Dan congratulations on this wonderful business to the owners and the employees you do Detroit proud. With love from your other uncle John.
Can anyone tell me that if I purchase a bottle of the sake can I take it home or do I have to drink the whole bottle at the restaurant? Is it legal in Michigan with an open bottle of sake in the back of the car to drive home if you know, please let me know because if I can, I’m getting a bottle it was so good and I don’t drink Love to my nephew and to his wonderful crew
Update January 2025.
Damn, the executive kitchen chef for bash is my nephew. However, I never play favorites with relatives. My daughter invited teaching friends to bring their family and enjoy bash and with Tom being of Korean descent they loved Asian food. Raven are a waitress was one of the best We’ve ever had in almost any establishment with her constantly. Keep an eye on us updating our beverages and just a great personality just made this an additional wonderful experience. The kimchi potatoes are unbelievably delicious. Every recipe on this menu has been created by Dan, including the cheesecake. My cheesecake was eaten while I was enjoying the Japanese restroom experience by the kids and nicely my caramel apple topped cheesecake was replaced with a new one. The Ramen was unbelievable according to Tom The food that I had was unbelievably a huge amount. I loved everything even though I had no idea what I was eating. I chose not to use a hobby this time, but the ginger was so fresh. I couldn’t believe how delicious it was and I’m talking ginger. Nothing else. 10. Stars of excellence.

It’s not really an Izakaya, just a Japanese restaurant that serves a few Izakaya style appetizers . Overall it’s fine, but vibes and menu don’t live up to the place it replaced. Would be good for a corporate dinner or the like.

Definitely the atmosphere and the traditional seating are the reason to come. The sake selection is great, the food is excellent.
Cannot recommend the ramen as it feels like an afterthought menu item, certainly not to the same level as the rest of the menu.
As others have mentioned parking can be an issue as street parking is the only option

So, I was dragged into an after-work drinking party I didn't want to attend. My boss, Mark, after a few drinks, gets overly loud and embarrassing while my coworkers try to maintain polite smiles. I had to endure the awkwardness by fantasizing about screaming death metal karaoke—something many introverts might relate to.
This place perfectly captures the mix of bonding, forced politeness, and over-the-top antics that can happen during an after-work drinking party 🍸

Bash, a Japanese Gem in Metro Detroit
This Japanese restaurant Bash is a must-try for anyone in the Metro Detroit area craving delicious and authentic Japanese cuisine.
We started with the crispy chicken wings, and they truly lived up to their name! The outer layer was perfectly crispy, while the chicken inside remained incredibly juicy. Next, we shared the King roll sushi, which was not only massive but packed with flavor. Each bite was a delightful explosion of flavors
The highlight of our meal was the chicken katsu, recommended by our friendly waiter. She wasn't wrong - it was the best we've had in Metro Detroit! Just like the chicken wings, the katsu had a fantastic crispy outer layer and tender, juicy meat.
Bash also has a unique touch that adds to the cultural experience: a designated area for leaving your footwear before entering the dining area. This small detail enhances the authentic Japanese feel.
With its delicious food, good atmosphere, and friendly staff, bash is definitely worth a visit. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic Japanese dining experience in Metro Detroit.

Also, their sake is phenomenal. I even bought a few bottles to take home. Will be back and referring this restaurant to many!

Overrated, underwhelming. The food was meh, nothing special and basic, salty plain flavor in all the dishes, good presentation. Normal service, no rude people. Will I be back? I don’t thinks so. But there is a special mention to the toilets!! 🚽 Japanese style 100/100 🤩! So in summary mediocre food and good butt massage!!

I had the Lion Roll with the Murasaki drink. I really don't eat raw sushi (it was the minced tuna on top of the roll) but they did their thing with it. Their restrooms have high-tech toilet seats which I thought was cool too. Definitely will go back to get a platter dinner!

Absolutely horrible food and terrible experience, the fried sushi tasted like it was left in the fryer for 3 business days and fried with motor oil. Not only that, the avocado in the sushi was so rotten it makes me think they picked them out of the dumpster. After all that they charged us $300 & even after we brought up the issue they only got it down to $200. Absolutely horrible experience, will not be coming back.
Update: left a picture because apparently the management can’t accept feedback & will instead try to discredit customers

Excellent sushi. It's pricey, but it's worth it. The black dragon roll is delicious and huge. And the soy sauce is good. And the appetizers are so good. Excellent service. I love this place. The grape shoju is pretty good, but nothing compares to the food.
They have very fancy toilets.

One of the best Japanese restaurants in Detroit with its unique setting. They also have a Japanese toilet btw. Service is top notch, patience, water always get refill. I wish I can afford to pay out more tip.
Weekend you probably do need a reservation ahead of time. They said they make the broth on their own, so the ramen is very good with the base broth and veggies. Noddles itself was kinda soggy, didn't ruin the whole bowl but could be better.
I prefer traditional chicken curry with white rice and sauce instead of yellow curry rice. If they can change that will be great.
Sushi, everyone were ordering sushi. The American style rolls, like dragon roll, black dragon roll, tiger roll, after a couple tries they all taste the same. You know why, because the sauce is too heavy, it covers the natural flavor of the fish or avocado and rice. Regular sushi roll should be better.

Expensive, mediocre sushi. And we were modest in our selections. There’s far better choices in Detroit and Windsor. Slow service. Wont be returning.

Randomly was craving some sushi after museum visit at the Michigan science Center. Googled the closest sushi restaurant to the Michigan science center that had the highest rating and this place popped up. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and was sat immediately in this very cute in-the-floor table concept design. Which was perfect for me being able to elevate my knee after recent surgery. NOTE: if you plan on sitting in the floor table area, you will have to remove your shoes so if you don’t want to go, barefoot or use the restaurant provided footies, I would suggest wearing socks your own socks or bringing your own socks. The atmosphere was quaint and the vibe was just right. I love that they had anime playing on the TV. Food came out quick and was delicious. Had a combination of a few different appetizers plus a roll and was satisfied with everything. It was about $25 a person, and that was including tip , definitely will be back again. Highly recommend seaweed salad, spicy tofu, appetizer, miso soup, spicy edamame, and the tiger roll.

Went out with some friends for lunch it was 6 of us so we decided to stop by around 11:30 am before they opened. The host was nice enough to sit us down as they opened up. We started off with the pork gyozas and the spicy edamame and they were both very flavorful. We ordered the B Platter and it was also delicious. We decided to go with that choice due to the fact that it comes with 8 rolls. The rolls were similar but at the same time different enough to have variety. Apart from the food, I ordered the peachy lychee sangria, I was a little hesitant since it had sake but I actually enjoyed it, it was refreshing and tasted like fresh mango. My friend ordered the Dragonfruit Margarita and it was a little stronger but still sweet to the taste. The atmosphere was nice and not too crowded , giving it 4 stars due to being it too cold in there. The service was excellent and our server was attentive. Will be retuning

Food was utterly disappointing. Had the Katsu Chicken and it was devoid of any flavor. Would perfer they kept to the traditional curry dish instead of cutting corners with their "curry rice" which was more like a soggy rice goop.

Frist time here, the food was very tasty!
1. The crispy wings were the best! lord I could eat a truck load of those.
2. The Tonkotsu Ramen was a bit in the middle for me, wasn't bad, but not what I was expecting.
3. Takoyaki is one of my favorites, and this one reminded me of Osaka Japan - the home of Takoyaki.
4. The Pork Gyoza - just yum!
5. The Bulgogi Gyudon - lovely, rich, yokie good!
6. finally, we had the popcorn Lobster Roll!!! they needed to roll me away from the table!
All in all, great first impression, good food, love the atmosphere! would recommend this place, and would definitely eat here many times more!

Went there last weekend super excited because it had been a while since I last dine there. When seated everything was fine, we ordered drinks first and waited a little to then order appetizers and food. After we ordered the appetizers, which got to the table really fast, the waitress forgot about us completely. We had empty drinks, empty plates and no water. At the same time we saw how there was a line of people just waiting for someone (hostess) to approach them and yet no one came. Afterwards we saw like three different sushi plates just sitting on the sushi bar, waiting for someone to bring to the tables yet they were left there for prob 15-20mins. Prob one of those was mine but after waiting almost an hour my husband’s ramen arrived but my sushi didn’t, because the one they brought was not the one I ordered, it belong to another table that was sat AFTER us. Then after 20 more minutes my sushi arrived. Still no show of our waitress, and the plates from the appetizers still there, and no drinks. Service was horrible, people that were waiting for a table were leaving, people standing in line were leaving too because no one was greeting… just horrible and disappointing experience. They were not full at all, tables were available and there was enough staff given it’s a small seating area.

I bring all of my friends here. Every dish is amazing. Excellent cocktails. The traditional seating is very comfortable and enjoyable. It’s worth trying everything.
The only negative thing that we all agree on is that it is a harshly loud environment , and it’s hard to hear at your table. I don’t know what they can do to soften it. It is not as bad if it is not packed.

I had eaten here before and had no complaints. Except for tonight, I had came in at 9:00pm seeing a table that was open. It wasnt cleaned and I didnt see any other people behind us or in front of us that were waiting to get seated for it. So when I asked the male waiter, he had told me that they couldn’t accommodate us for there were other people ahead of us. Really disappointed in how he lied straight to my face. Even waited to see who he was talking about, and no one showed. Be honest with your customers.
Edit: I have gone back and the service was much better. Ill just say I probably got them on their off day. Overall the food and atmosphere were great. So I cant complain there.

This is my go to for taking visiting friends from out of town. They have options for everyone! It’s a good place to show others that Detroit has a lot of great food options

Great sushi.
However, anything other than sushi is waste of money. Below average food at elevated cost. I would recommend sushi, but anything else is not good. The second best thing at this place is japanese toilet.
The Ramen is awful. The chicken yellow curry rice has mediocre rice. Chicken is fine. Pork gyoza are average.
Overall, I won't recommend this place considering very high cost.

The food is amazing 👏🏽 🤩 😋 . I loved the staff and the kindness they showed during our visit. We sat in the traditional seating area and truly enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely go back. The popcorn lobster and California rolls are amazing. The BBQ eel is good as well.

I really enjoyed my appetizers, the Spicy Tofu Bites and the Pork Gyoza. Each was full of distinct flavors, with great textures too. My college age freshman also enjoyed the giant bowl of Mushroom Miso Ramen. This experience for a quick lunch was exceptional. The accommodations were stylish and comfortable sans the cold air duct making me a bit cold over the table we sat at. The staff was kind and gave us time to look at the varying menu. An overall wonderful meal.

The only real problem with BASH is that it's so small. The restaurant can probably hold 30 people, so making reservations is a MUST! The food and service was excellent. We went for my daughter's birthday and were not disappointed. The Kimchi potatoes were so good, crust on the outside and hot and soft on the inside and the sauce has a little bit of heat, but not overpowering. I had the chicken Katsu and the rice had a really nice flavor from the Chinese 5 Spice used to season the rice, the chicken had a bit too much of this soy, balsamic vinegar sauce but it still paired well together. They also have Sake flights and I encourage everyone to get a flight with the strawberry sake...sweet perfection. Overall BASH gets a 8.5/10 from me

I would personally like to thank the manager Brandon due to his professionalism and knowledge foods that would ignite allergies. The food was great. The atmosphere was good. I did not like the octopus balls but the sushi was amazing. The matcha sweetened was perfect. It was simply cold on the floor so dress warm if it's during the winter.

Quality ingredients and unique food items. The atmosphere was very cool- I liked the traditional seating. The server didn’t tell us what the chef’s special nigiri were, or identify which sakes we had in our flights. Not a huge deal, but did diminish the experience.
The real issue was when I found a hair lying across the top of the chef’s nigiri, that was upsetting. Luckily I saw it before eating it.
I hope it was just an off night!

Kate provided amazing service and even went above and beyond to remove an item we didn't care for without our requesting it! We loved the cool seating options of sitting in the floor with shoes removed for a more authentic experience. Great way to spend an evening! Crispy wings and the avocado boat were our favorite! They also have Vegan and Vegetarian options!

By far the best sushi I’ve ever had. I love their menu options & the quality is just top notch!! Nothing will ever beat Bash!

The place I originally wanted was closed on Sunday, which usually would be a bummer, but it helped me stumble across this location.
Firstly, they have traditional seating which was so fun!!! I have never had the opportunity to sit at such a unique dining set up. Really added to the experience.
Second, the food was so so good. They had toro and served it in nice thick slices which made the price worth it.
I got the ruby roll and would order it the next time I went. I also got the chefs choice nigiri platter and that was a homerun. Each piece was fresh and had great flavor.
Lastly, my partner is a vegetarian. The vegetarian rolls were unique and fresh. Avocado can be hit or miss we found but they were perfectly ripe.
Highly recommend the matcha ice cream and the sake flight as well.
** also a special touch the server heard I was in town for my Birthday and put a candle in my dessert. Top notch service and food.

Benny’s toro hand roll was FANTASTIC. And the Strawberry shortcake was a piece of heaven. Had to start the review with that lol. The fish is high quality, the rolls were really good. The only thing that was disappointing was the spicy edamame. It needed seasoning. But everything else was so good I can’t dock any stars. The ambience is really good. I liked the decor. Service was great.

Very fun menu, almost too hard to choose what to eat! Everything we got was delicious. The mochi was legit and definitely more authentic than most sushi places. Definitely worth visiting of you like sushi at all, and even if you don't they have other dishes.
There is some street parking but nothing specific dedicated, so you might have to walk a block or too. Still totally worth it!

Great service and food that was new for me. Large menu that could be overwhelming if sushi is new to you too, but was ultimately explained really well, so it wasn't intimidating. Server Jordan was gracious and attentive, with thorough explanations for everything from drinks to food. Food was beautiful and tasted great.

I was honestly so disappointed when I went here. I saw so many good reviews so I decided to make a trip to go here. My partner and I didn’t order much and it took an hour for us to get our food from the time we got there. When we did get our food, we could tell it had been sitting out for a while. I have a feeling we would have enjoyed our food better if it had made it to our table from the kitchen faster but we were pretty disappointed with it. Also, just a head up, it’s pretty loud in there. Not necessarily a bad thing but something worth knowing.

We were really excited to try this place out, but if wasn't that great really. Neat atmosphere with the shoes off table section, maybe not great for people who can't move around easily. Our waiter wasn't very friendly maybe they were having a bad day, kinda ruined it for us. The sushi was just okay.

Super experience at Bash. The appetizers and entrees were great, especially the Takoyaki. We also had a sake flight which had great floral notes and paired well with the meal. The traditional seating was an unexpected yet pleasant surprise. I’ll be back!

One of the best sushi places I've tried!
This place had really fun flavors, fresh ingredients, and real wasabi! Not something I often see, even at high end sushi spots. At least not in the pnw where I'm from.
The atmosphere was gorgeous, with a traditional experience that was very original.
Drinks were delicious and well balanced, I tried two of the cocktails and the Made in Autumn (I think it was called?) Is my new obsession. Along with their house made matcha ice cream. If you're thinking of getting it, stop, just get it with all the toppings!
Plus our server and everyone else we interacted with there tonight was so wonderful and sweet. They even rushed to help a woman deal with a frustrating situation as she ran in asking for some help.
Everyone there handled the event extremely well. Coming from a Seattlite, where many people just ignore people even in times of possible crisis, it was nice to see people genuinely care for others.
Appreciated our entire experience here and whenever we make it back to Detroit, I'm definitely making a stop here.

Feels like fine dining :) A bit pricy expect 60$ for two.
Also has fancy expensive heated toilets. Kind of amazing.

Recommend: spicy tofu bites and miso mushroom ramen. We got the kimchi potatoes but it was a bit overdressed so probably would only order if we were really hungry or paired if with something on the lighter side. Overall, happy to see something like this in Detroit and on Trumbull. Nice change to a once sketchy area.

Came here based on the Google reviews and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered Avocado boat for appetizer, which was great and was the only saving grace. Got Tonkotsu ramen, I was really hoping it’d be great. It was mediocre at best on top of being way over priced for what it is, plus the carrots julienne kind of made the ramen taste meh. Portion was good but the amount of meat and the overall taste did not do justice. Another dish we got was Teriyaki Udon with crispy chicken. Noodles were great but crispy chicken was so bland! Very disappointed!

I’m still going around Michigan looking for the best Japanese spot, and Bash almost got it, but the tonkotsu ramen is what brought it down. Sushi rolls were mostly good- Sunday Morning and Salmon on the Beach. Popcorn Lobster had copious amounts of the lobster, but the batter masked the lobster so it just tasted like any other shellfish. The unadon was plenty and incredible. The chirashi could have had fresher sashimi, but the hamachi was superb. The tonkotsu had a warm spice added to it and it’s not what I’m used to, plus the shredded carrots didn’t pair well with the broth. I would still come back here because the ambiance and rolls are incredible!

Really cool spot. Tried their Sunset Mock, not my favorite but worth trying. I had the kimchi potatoes, wings, dragon roll, southwest roll, and miso soup. All were flavorful. Highly recommend checking them out. Reserve the traditional Japanese sunken table. Service was on point, waters were always full. Music was fun and inviting too.

Not gonna lie, this place was pretty dope! Initial impression upon walking in: vibe was nice, seating was reminiscent of Japanese dining. There was a special area were customers had to remove their shoes to dine there, which was pretty cool. We made reservations so there was no wait. Music was playing overhead, and I ain't even mad at the song choices. Good selections with some Drake sprinkled here and there. The wings and dumplings were delicious, crispy and flavorful - 10/10 recommend. We ordered the Platter C boat, which was pretty good, with the exception of the 2 rolls (intentionally located on the ends) they were just okay. Very fresh sushi, with lots of detail and a good consistency (they didn't fall apart easily). The miso soup, which came with the platter was the right temp as well. Not piping hot but steaming. A lot of places go left when they bring out soup that's warm, so extra points for that! The chopsticks were made of fiberglass, which is great for sustainability though a little slippery. Drinks were also pretty good and the bathroom was wonderful, heated seats with a bidet. Also high end hand dryers to prevent waste. All in all, this restaurant was pretty good! I'd def go back!

Nothing bad to say about this place. We've become regulars here thanks to the happy hour 15% off the total bill including drinks between 4 and 5pm. That benefit aside, the food is excellent, along with the nicest, very attentive, and most attractive wait staff in Detroit, and nice atmosphere including playing AWESOME MUSIC. That last part a big plus. We've ordered appetizers, rib, chicken, sushi, and different Ramen dishes, and everything is excellent. Get the 22oz can of Sapporo for $10 if you like a beer with your meal which i do. Great place located in an up and coming area of town.
