Uni
About This Sushi Bar

Serving inventive Japanese cuisine using the freshest seafood from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market and local New England fishermen, and borrowing influence from the streets of Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Bangladesh, Uni is the evolution of Ken Oringer’s intimate sashimi bar of the same name, which expanded into the former Clio space in 2016. UNI is currently helmed by Executive Chef David Bazirgan.

Had an ok experience. Sushi/nigiri and rolls were excellent but the salmon collar was just not great (didn’t taste good, didn’t look good as it took up 1/2 our table) and service was pretty poor. It took a while to get asked for drinks then things arrived haphazardly with two dishes being delivered twice, one was notified they didn’t have any more then it weirdly arrived late AFTER we had ordered desert. Just didn’t seem to have it together.

I was very disappointed. I have been to Uni's a few times and was always happy with the quality of the food. This time I cannot say the same thing.
I got the Sake - Scottish Salmon and as expected from Uni, it was excellent. The fish was flavorful and very fresh.
Next was the Salmon & Avocado. I thought it was a little overdressed with sauce, but overall it was okay. The salmon tasted fine, but it's unlikely I'd order again.

Lastly was my big disappointment; the Spicy Negihama. This was basically a mayo roll with a little bit of fish in it. It was so overwhelming with the amount of mayo that after 3 pieces, I couldn't stand it and threw the rest out. Before doing so, I opened up the roll to try and pick out the fish, but there was hardly any fish in the roll to pull out. I would definitely not buy this again and advise others not to as well.

Amazing sushi for a high price. It is definitely pricey but great for a special occasion. Some of the best sushi in Boston.

Whoa. This was... not good.

Service was aces, the ambiance left a ton to be desired, but the sushi? Bad. Flat out bad. The mackerel was legit almost as crunchy as the fried chicken bao bun; the salmon was dry. The toro belly was fine, but at that price? hahahahahahah, no.

Seriously: Six pieces of negihama in a roll, at $5 a bite. It'd have been more pleasant just, literally, eating the cash. "You're paying for the experience," you might say. Wait staff in sweatshirts, my table legit knocking against the strangers next to us, in a noise cone that rivals the food court at H Mart. They should have paid -me-.

If it sounds like I'm being extraordinarily cruel, go see for yourself. But there's plenty around Back Bay to hook you up when you walk out laughing.

Went to this restaurant last night for my husband’s 50th birthday. We were excited to try a new place rather than going to our usual spots but it was the most expensive mediocre sushi we’ve ever had. Trust me, there are better spots in Boston. We even cut dinner short and went to the bar around the corner for beer and tater tots which was a far better experience. Save your money for better quality sushi.

Service was so slow that by the time you got your nigiri pieces - the rice was dry and so was the fish. All flavors were uninspiring and sometimes overwhelming that it overpowered the fish (e.g., cranberry with Hirame).

TLDR: Pricey food but worth the price.

Went by myself and the server was really accommodating. Everything was so delicious. I especially like the potato gnocchi and the foie gras & tuna tartare. Also, I rate sushi restaurant by how fresh their ikura is and I'd say that Uni's ikura is fresh so the restaurant is good And I thought they'd miss on the dessert because it's a sushi restaurant, but the coconut rice pudding was sooo good. They certainly didn't miss. The food came somewhat late, but the server gave me 2 free mocktails as an apology (lol), which I appreciated a lot. Food is on the pricier side, but I think it's worth it. Erin much recommended.

I had a good time here! The food was great (awesome for Boston standards) and the service was impeccable. A bit overpriced cost-wise. The diminished returns is real LOL.

$5.00 for a very small glass of coke is ridiculous. Not being from here i wasn't familiar with this restaurant. Price of coke wasnt posted. And then I thought refills were free. So I paid 10.00 for about 16oz of diet coke. Price gouging big time. No where a fair or reasonable price.

The perfect choice if your also staying at the Elliot Hotel, Uni was a fantastic & Fun meal. Sitting at a very nice counter side seating, I got the barracuda and Yellowtail nigiri, and the Salmon with black bean purée for myself. The salmon was so fresh tasting and delicious, while the Nigiri were amazing quick bites. The Crab Fried Rice, and if your into spice, the Spicy Wagyu Beef dumplings were magnificent!

Love this spot. Connected to the lobby at the Eliot Hotel, it’s a no brainer if you’re staying there. Sat at the counter and had an amazing experience. The wagyu beef dumplings are a must order. They’re insane. For sashimi I did the hirame (fluke) and it was beautiful. For nigiri I did the toro with caviar and the foie gras with strawberry & pop rocks. Loved the toro but the best bite of the night went to the foie gras. Legitimately blew my mind.

traditional Japanese sushi and izakaya w/ a dose of cosmopolitan global influences. start with the iconic Uni Spoon, a piece of raw sea urchin with quail egg yolk and topped with osetra caviar meant to be devoured in a single bite. seafood from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market and local New England fishermen, influence from the streets of Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Bangladesh. Interesting cocktails, wines from all over the world, nice sakes — uni spoon is a must, all the crudos are great, tuna and foie gras crudo is perfect, miso eggplant, all food is amazing, have a small outdoor patio, great service, recommend 100%

Our dinner tonight was a big disappointment. We spent $191.00 without tip on dinner for two with no alcohol. This place does not earn its rating. Some of the rolls were good but others were not. They charged us $35.00 for 4 thin slices of Chutoro tuna sashimi, which was good but not worth their insane price. The overall food quality is good to average but their prices are insane for the minimal quantity served. This place even charges a 3% surcharge for wages owed to their “non-tipped staff”!!! If you want to get robbed for average sushi, this is your place. You have been warned. There are several other better sushi options in Boston. Beware this place!!!

Uni has a special omakase menu every Thursday with only 4 seats with Chef Takeishi. This is much more traditional than the regular menu or tasting menu. He shares his passion about each dish that comes out. He talked in detail about the different types of fish of the menu, the sourcing, and many other details. He absolutely adds to the experience!

The meal was incredible. I had several species of fish Ive never seen before. Each dish has minimal ingredients. Just enough to elevate the flavors of the fish. Some amazing soups, and awesome desserts.

Service was also attentive and friendly.

I highly suggest you give this place a try, in particular the omakase menu, where you have to reserve ahead of time :(

Mind-Blowing Culinary Experience at UNI

Dining at UNI is nothing short of extraordinary. Chef Take's talent is truly remarkable, turning every dish into a masterpiece. The sashimi is unbelievably fresh, each slice practically melts in your mouth, showcasing the incredible quality and craftsmanship that UNI is known for.

One of the standout dishes was the Foie Gras sushi with pop rocks and strawberry. The combination of flavors and textures was nothing short of genius—a perfect balance of richness, sweetness, and a playful pop that left me in awe. It’s a daring creation that speaks to Chef Take’s innovative spirit.

My personal favorite, though, has to be the Toro topped with caviar. The buttery, luxurious texture of the Toro paired with the briny burst of caviar is an experience I won't soon forget. It's the kind of sushi that dreams are made of.

The service at UNI is also top-notch. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and makes you feel like a VIP from start to finish. They are well-versed in the menu and make excellent recommendations, ensuring that your dining experience is seamless and memorable.

UNI is, without a doubt, a dining destination that should be on every food lover’s bucket list. Chef Take’s talent shines through in every dish, making it an unforgettable experience.

Been here a few times and have NEVER had an unpleasant experience. I usually sit at the downstairs counter because its a nicer vibe and better music for the younger crowd. Plus, Chef Luke is super fun to watch. He is very welcoming, helpful, and attentive. The servers explain the dishes in full detail when they arrive at the table. Uni has top tier seafood, always tastes super fresh. My favorite dishes are the Hirame, Sake (sashimi), Eel & Avo maki, and the Wagyu Beef Dumplings ALWAYS hit the spot. I personally did not like the Hiramasa, but if you’d like an ice cream sundae kind of savory dish, it may be for you. Parking is very difficult around this area. Its mostly valet parking which can run you from $20-$40. Great sushi restaurant overall. Great food, great atmosphere and amazing service! ⭐️

One of the more disappointing experiences at a restaurant I’ve had. We had about six courses all of which tasted great, but unfortunately experienced terrible service. This is a relatively expensive Japanese restaurant. For the three of us, it averaged $235 per person. We ordered 24 items, plus two cocktails and two desserts.

The quality of the ingredients is exceptional. Even if you've previously thought other Japanese restaurants had fresh ingredients, this place sets a new standard. The A5 wagyu on the rock was especially impressive, giving me a true taste of melt-in-your-mouth, butter-like wagyu. It was truly astonishing!

The service was very attentive. The staff were diligent and polite.

We sat at an outdoor table, watching people pass by, which was quite enjoyable.

Parking was challenging. We ended up parking in a nearby garage for $40.

This was one of the worst experiences I ever had with sushi. To start with, the service was ridiculous. It took 10 minutes for our waiter to arrive at the table and after that other 15 minutes for him to appear again. We ordered 28 pieces of Niguiri and they brought 56. They ended up charging all the 56 pieces of sushi even thought it wasn’t what we ordered. The worst part is that all the sushi pieces were extremely spicy and literally tasted the same. Instead of bringing fish, they only brought rice. What a shame this restaurant is. I’m surprised that it has 4.3 stars and not 2! I won’t be coming back and definitely do not recommend to anyone.

One of my favorite sushi places due to their interesting combinations and supremely fresh fish. Surprisingly, my favorite dish isn't a fish nigiri, it's the fois gras. As a ex-pat from the old Cafe Sushi omakase scene, I am forever disappointed in what is left in Boston for choices. You either pay waaaay too much, or you get less than amazing fish or both. Well I am happy to say that Uni dazzled me this last weekend. It's really hard to do omakase style bites at this scale but they seem to have pulled it off. The food was very creative and I loved everything we had . The sake selection is also fantastic which is a huge plus. The only thing I am going to call them out on is the truly tiny servings of some sashimi dishes. Ironically the Uni - the very name of the restaurant - piece in the spoon was microscopic. Cmon guys...at these prices how about a decent bite ?

On a rare night out with the wife, we thought Uni could be magical. We love sushi. We're happy to splurge on our time together. The rub is this place is gas station takeout quality for Michelin star prices.

We did the omakase. Thinking they know the best stuff. They upsell you on a better one, which should have been a sign that this is more a marketing effort than a culinary effort. But we did it. The first course was these "uni spoons". It's sea urchin and raw egg yolk. It's gilding the lily with can't miss ingredients, so sure it was great. Oddly for a very expensive signature item that the waiter made sure to hype up, it came in a dingy little plain spoon. Perhaps somebody in the kitchen thought this was elegant simplicity. To me it just seemed like somebody had nicked the silverware from a public school dumpster. Not to judge a book by the cover, but it was a real sign that something's off with this place. Note to self: Next time I'm paying through the nose for a hyped up restaurant and something is so clearly slipshod right from the start, just walk out. Let them sucker somebody else in.

Thus started a parade of dishes that went from mediocre to bland. Hamachi, one of my favorite fish, came out as a rubbery square with a pear (?). It tasted like... pear. Oysters came with some sort of pomegranate thing that ruined the oysters. Not a good sign when you just scrape it off to try and enjoy the oysters. A tataki seemed like they tried to sear the edges gently with a torch, but was just dry and cooked. Lots of the food seemed to have been kept under a heat lamp. From the wontons with some gross sweet thing inside that had crumbly pasta pulling away from soggy bags that had clearly been left in the broth too long. A plate of four types of fish was all equally bland and dry. And they don't even use sushi rice. I get the impression there's an attempt to be creative, but really they're just getting ahead of their skis.

The guys bringing you dishes mumble through a description while avoiding eye contact. They tell you basically nothing. One described our scallops as "madai" which is not the Japanese word for it. Why not just use the English word? Kind of shows the lack of care the staff takes with the whole thing. Each course came out wham-bam one after the other, making it hard to even talk never mind slowly enjoy things. I get you're trying to turn the table, but don't be so damn obvious about it.

And then the bill comes. We're pondering if we should salvage our rare evening together by going somewhere nearby. And staring at that bill made me a bit angry. If you're going to charge Michelin star prices, at the very least don't suck. But it's just treating me like a money cow, happy to chomp on dry hay and still willing to squirt that sweet milk of money out of my udder.

Do yourself a favor. If you want the Uni experience then just go to Grubhub, sort by star rating, and get yourself the cheapest one star available. If you want sushi go somewhere else.

Super inventive sushi as well as cooked dishes prove that Uni is not an ordinary Japanese joint. Uni makes dumplings that you've never heard of before, (like with Wagyu beef) let alone tasted. My Bluefish pate served with garlic nan was unexpected and beautiful. We had been here a year and a half ago and it was good but wasn’t amazing. We came back last night and it was miles better! Our meal was fantastic! Delicious food and great cocktails. The nigiri were all so good. The toro was on point as was the foie gras. We also enjoyed the wagyu dumplings and miso eggplant a lot too. The desserts were also very good. The ube cheesecake was really interesting and leaned savory, which was unique (my husband enjoyed this in particular) and the hazelnut cake with five spice was so good too. We loved the flavors and textures of the desserts. Our server, Jen, was awesome too. She brought great energy, was attentive, and was just a really pleasant person to engage with. Overall, an excellent meal and we look forward to coming back when in Boston. Note it is pricey given it’s sushi and its proximity to Newbury street, but it is notably good and better than whatever else is in the area in terms of Japanese.

I provided a 4 only because I tasted only a few things. The Manager was super engaged, and what I ate was great. I had the smoked uni spoon, a few pieces of sushi, as I had just eaten at a J restaurant nearby that just left me disappointed and I didn’t want to end the evening on a low note. So, I saw this place on the walk home and gave it a shot. I would go back. The Manager even got the bartender to make me a traditional Japanese cocktail called a Yukiguni. It was just like the one I had in a Japanese speak easy in Kyoto this summer. I’ll go back to this place to try more!

Incredibly overpriced for how mediocre it was. Everything we ordered tasted “meh” at best and the wagyu dumplings were just bad. Cocktails were also unimpressive; I didn’t finish mine. Atmosphere was also weird; blasting pop music you’d have on a running playlist at an extremely pricey, swankily designed restaurant seemed odd. The bathrooms were located in the Eliot hotel and getting to them was a bit of an adventure… they were not well maintained to say the least. To top it off a table brought in a baby (at 8pm on a Saturday, in an incredibly loud and expensive restaurant???) who shrieked throughout the meal. We were very much looking forward to our anniversary dinner here and ended up having a much better time (and better drinks!) at a dive bar afterward

Things that detracted from feeling like a place worth $150-200 per person: They make you use a QR code for the menu. Barely enough room for our legs under the table. Too loud not good hip hop playing, mostly could just feel the reverberations of bass. Meat dishes came out with fish, there was no intention to the order of dishes. Table got messy after multiple plates, several food runners came with more plates without taking a second to consider cleaning it up. Some dishes were excellent (uni spoon melts in your mouth), some good (rolls were tasty), some underwhelming (the rib had granules of cartilage making for bad mouth feel). If it were described as “asian fusion sushi, good for a night out” and prices were a twinge lower it would make more sense.

First time in Boston, and shockingly the food here has been really bad. But Uni is an exception. Amazing food. Loved it. I wouldn't call it a traditional sushi restaurant, but they do have sashimi and nigiri. The miso eggplant was amazing along with the fried chicken bao bun.

Sushi Experience №127

First and foremost, this is not an inexpensive place.

Second, I would rate closer to 4.5 stars. The only reason for doing so though is because I think the cocktail menu is a bit underwhelming and even for Boston, a bit overpriced.

The menu is wonderful though. Again, not inexpensive, and there are other sushi spots in Boston that are great, and friendlier to the wallet, but after your first bite of Nigiri or Sashimi, you know where that extra cost went. Fresh, delicious and delicate. Fatty tuna, medium or above, are a must. The makimono had some familiar favorites you’d expect on the eastern US, but a cut above.

Not looking for fish? Spare rib and Wagyu dumplings were fantastic, though admittedly a departure from what I’d expect from a Japanese restaurant. The food was brought out in the “correct” order, with the ribs and dumplings served last, being the palate wreckers they are.

The Japanese whiskey selection is off the charts. I haven’t seen Takamine served at any restaurant, ever, and the choices don’t end at that if you’re looking for something with more age and prestige.

And the service was great. Prompt, knowledgeable and not overly intrusive. I don’t like my glass to be empty and it never was.

I have no doubt if Boston had a Michelin guide they would at least be listed, if not have a star. If you’re willing to drop $100-$200 per person, give it a shot.

as soon as you step foot into uni— the lights are dim, the furniture? modern, sleek, clean cut bar and shining spotlights playing off the kaleidoscope of bottles. you take your seat, the ceiling lights playing at jellyfish floating above you, there's a school of fish wall accented to your left and— oop.

a table of 2 having a hard conversation not 1 foot away from your elbow on the counter. oh. your foot touched hers and now she's mad at her boyfriend for not taking it seriously. oh. uh .. the kid behind you dropped their knife for the 4th time. you couldn't hear the waitress. Drake is playing, no now that's Cardi B. I'm in an upscale Japanese restaurant right? why is Pusha T blasting my eardrums rn. huh, sorry? i shouldn't order my entrée separate from my family? ohhh.. okay it's tapas. wait, so then everything will be coming in sets of 4 (my party size)? no. not that either. we'll have to cut it.

as i paid for my $36 tuna and $20 eel (would suggest) alongside my foie gras ($26, also good) i couldn't help but think this must be what it feels like to be in a place where people play house at a Japanese restaurant. this is not a Japanese restaurant, nor a sushi restaurant, nor fine dining. this is a tapas restaurant, where you'd have a hot date and a drink at the bar. for a $300 bill the food was presented more than it was practical, functional, pragmatic, etc. not to be too harsh— the meal was lovely (though we all felt queasy after), but what really outshined it here was the pretentious plating and whispers of the spsppspss as the teen (interns?) explain the dish to you and jog away. for lack of a better word ... it put a bad taste in my mouth. also ive been in PJs spending $700 for a bill and was treated to better seating. so either going to Japan, hiring Japanese folks, changing the floor plan away from other patrons, and/or merging away from tapas would work as you'd be able to price according to the portion of the meal, and not the cute dollops of corn serum on the plate. looks busy though so happy that's workin out for em! nice waitress who was v down to earth 💞

The Eliot Hotel told us it was "one of the best Japanese restaurants in Boston"—not true. It's very underwhelming for the menu's price. The Wagyu Beef Dumplings were not good, the nagiri was meh, the Fried Chicken Bao Bun was normal/good.

Uneven Culinary Journey, Subpar Service

I had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant on 07/27, ordering the tasting menu, with its 9 services. While the food was satisfactory overall, there are inconsistencies in the dining experience and issues with the service experience that lives a bitter taste.

With a price of 225$, the quality of the food was a mixed bag. Some dishes such as the prawns and sashimi were excellent, though I did find a scale on the salmon's skin, which was a bit off-putting. The main issue I encountered was with the seasoning. While some elements were under-salted, others were too spicy, overpowering the balance of the other ingredients. Such inconsistencies were particularly noticeable.

I found some choices curious, such as to eat tagliatelle with chopsticks. It was a bit unconventional and just impractical and didn't add any significant value to the overall dining experience. Also, that dish was not served at the right temperature to appreciate all the flavors, it was too cold.

On a positive note, the dessert was truly exceptional, a definite highlight.

However, it's the service that truly fell short of expectations. After being seated, no one took the time to explain the available menu options, including the tasting menu. I had to ask someone to come explain why there was a table menu and an online menu.

In a top-tier restaurant, the service staff is expected to have a balance of attentiveness and discretion, allowing us to enjoy the meal at a relaxed pace. Unfortunately, the hurried nature of the staff, along with the rush to clear plates, negatively impacted the overall experience. The music level also affected the ambiance, making it difficult to comprehend the servers' explanations of the dishes.

To conclude, while the food was just about worth the $225 tasting menu price, the overall experience was disappointing. Such a restaurant needs to ensure that every element of a guest's visit is impeccable, not just the food.

I had a verity of food items as I was very hungry. Everything I tried was delicious. Definitely a great spot for a special occasion.

The lower floor sushi bar gets a little Smokey when they start making rice or whatever they were cooking. Maybe make that food item elsewhere to keep the air clear.

We expected something different considering the price of the Sushi. Sashimi was served with too much sauce and spices, killing all the flavor of the fish. Overall, the Sushi was ok, but much blended with american cuisine, fusion Sushi.
It was very loud (music and chatter), so having a normal conversation was not possible. Staff was friendly but not knowledgeable of the wine on the menu. We would have expected better food/Sushi taking the overall check into consideration (it was pricy).

I loved eating at Uni! The vibe was really cool and the seating outside was wonderful. The food was a 8.5/10, super creative while still being delicious. They had some basic dishes like the Brussel sprouts but hit the mark great. For the more creative dishes like the crab fried rice they managed to combine a bunch of flavors that you wouldnt think taste good together. They made it work though! The pineapple and crab with the rice was great, the cherry, lemon, and hamachi were a great combo. And the scorpionfish had a similar thing going on too. The fried chicken bao buns were something I had never seen done but they did it great. Dessert was served creatively, as you can see with the white chocolate mousse, however, i wouldnt get the mochi again. 8.8/10

Sushi Experience №173

Uni is undoubtedly one of Boston's best places for sushi. I cannot recommend this place more vehemently.

TLDR
Uni is for sushi lovers looking for value and high quality ingredients. The best part? Service goes above and beyond what you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. A vibrant energy great for special occasions or simply enjoying high grade sushi.

SERVICE
First, I want to shout out Josh for his amazing attention and really bringing together the full experience of quality and service. Came here for a birthday celebration and while feeling slightly overwhelmed with the options, Josh took the reigns and practically curated a menu for us. He helped uswith the saki to the kitchen dishes, and of course the sashimi and nigiri. After having a great experience, we even asked him to get us an additional dish without telling us what it was - simply based on what we had enjoyed so far.

DRINKS
Josh recommended the Wakatake under Junmai Daiginjo. It was extremely balanced and paired well with all the dishes throughout. I would order it again.

FOOD
We ordered a bunch of items FROM THE KITCHEN. All were great but the most memorable were the shishito peppers (unique way of combining sweet and savory), Spanish octopus (sous vide to perfection), Wagyu dumplings (incredible sauce) and A5 Wagyu Sirloin (A5 speaks for itself but the experience is unique to Uni - get it). For sashimi and nigiri, EVERYTHING was great. I hate to use such a blanket statement but after eating all of our dishes, we asked to order more because it was so good. Shout out particular to the Spicy Tuna & Food Gras, Shimano Yuki Mash - Snow Trout, and Toro.

SPACE
Uni has two main areas: one being street level and the other the lower ground. Both have a sushi counter with the lower ground area having a smaller more intimate setting. The ambiance is energetic with good music.

I'll preface this by saying I've been here in the past and loved it -- food and service were incredible and no complaints. But I recently went with a larger (5p) party and have to say the service was incredibly disappointing. No complaints about the food other than the kitchen absolutely mistiming everything. Our waiter was inattentive, the food runners didn't know the dishes (she said "here's the white asparagus" which it clearly wasn't, and then she said "wait, no it's the monkfish"... it was the bamboo shoots) and we were waiting until the check came for some of the dishes to come out. We also got another table's food for two dishes. We had to remind the waiter 3 times about missing dishes, and each time he didn't seem to even remember what we were waiting for. The waiter also poured the rest of my friend's beer into his glass and promptly walked away as it foamed over and spilled onto the table. They said they would comp one dish that was egregiously late to the table and did so, so I will give them that.

For a place that ended up around $70/pp before tip, and a place that I've been and had amazing service and food at before, they really lacked this time around. Really hesitant to come back at that price point.

The Uni Spoon, Unagi Nigiri, Foie Gras (both options) were highly recommended, drinks are great too. The salmon sashimi, Hamachi sashimi, Crazy Boston, maki were unimpressive; the Spicy Negiham, A5 Wagyu Sirloin, chocolate mousse and brown sugar banana mochi were a letdown. Service was alright, we had to wait for the server to check in. Overall it’s just okay

Do not recommend $300 omakase. We sat on the lower floor, it was noisy and dark, and could barely see what our dishes were. There was a mix of really good to mediocre dishes. It would be better to save your money for the good dishes by ordering individually. The dishes didn't really come out at a steady pace; there were moments when we would have to wait 10-20 minutes between dishes and the next few would come out almost all at once.
Also, the order they came out in did not make sense. Our second-to-last dish was the tako, which was the worst. It was very heavy with sesame oil and chewy and was difficult for me to finish especially after we already ate 9-10 dishes prior. They should have ended it with the congee especially since we added caviar and had the A5 wagyu.
Honestly, the tako dish ruined the whole experience for me because this is the singular dish that I remember when I am reminded of this restaurant.

I stopped by Uni tonight and had a terrible time— I ended up paying more than 60 dollars for one order of maki and sake.

I asked for hot sake, but they gave me the cold version, and charged me for both the hot and cold sake. The waiter was messy—the soy sauce was all over the table as he gave me my portion —usually the customer is in charge of how much of soy sauce they pour…

For those who are hungry and cold late at night wondering the streets of Boston—please find some other joint! Don’t get seduced by the big Uni sign.

Our dinner at Uni was an incredible experience with a phenomenal world tour of flavors. They are not restricted to one style and pull from various cultures and techniques to create a unique and memorable food experience.

Full disclosure: I am not a fish/seafood person. I avoid it at all costs. But as a home chef and someone who loves to try new things, I knew this was the place to take risks. That bet paid off handsomely.

We ordered a few appetizers, and my wife had some delicious sushi. I trusted our sushi chef's recommendations for a cooked item and sashimi for the main event.

The Spanish Octopus - a sous-vide and smoked octopus with mole blanco, enoki, and rocoto - was spectacular. I did not know that octopus could taste like that. Incredible texture - not chewy, not rubbery - but rather lusciously meaty! The mole blanco was subtle - it did not overpower the octopus - but at the same time, it was absolutely incredibly executed. Tremendous dish.

While my wife was surprised I was enjoying this so much, her face showed genuine intrigue when the sashimi arrived. For this adventure, we got the Madai - Sea Bream served with parsnip, Marcona almond, and aged sherry vinaigrette. The presentation was beautiful and immediately drew me in. The fish was light, airy, and straight-off-the-boat fresh (plane in this case). The flavors were absolutely dancing on my palate. The parsnip crema was both ingenious and mind-blowing. It was an unexpected earthy element to an otherwise springtime dish.

I've been fortunate to have had great meals in great restaurants throughout the world. This is easily a top 5 experience for me. Considering I don't eat fish or seafood, that speaks volumes to how good the experience at Uni was.

They DONT DO OMEKASE its not part of the menu. Instead they will bring you randomly selected items at full price and charge you for that. Again good food not worth the price

We enjoyed our meal at Uni. I liked our earlier dishes best: the Uni Spoon, Barracuda and Fatty Tuna Nigiri, and the spicy yellowtail Makimono. All were so flavorful and complex and delicious. Afterward, I had the Hamachi Kama in ginger, which was interesting and very well done, but I prefer a more savory preparation, and the cheesecake for dessert, which I did not like (a sour creamy cheese surrounded by bird's nest of chocolate). My husband had the grilled Uni and said it was the best of all the dishes! A memorable meal with food prepared at a very high level.
