Sushi Experience №1

I have been to empire several times, for dinners and their night events. I attended a 30th birthday party here in December in one of their private rooms and that experience will be my last time in this establishment. The food was okay at best at that, we had to send back several drinks as well due to taste. The birthday girl recovered numerous gifts which she placed under a table to be out of the way and ended up forgetting the gifts. Next day, she called the restaurant about picking them up and they completely gave her the run around, accusing someone in the party of stealing them although we all walked out together and none of us walked out with the bag. They refused to check cameras for almost 2 weeks and were very rude about the situation. Once they finally did check the cameras, they again only showed a screenshot of people walking in with gifts but said that someone put it into a “to go” bag with food and took it. It was clearly someone who worked in that establishment who stole the gift items and they are covering up for the person. This is very distasteful and as a business in the local community , it’s very disheartening to know you cannot trust the workers to be honest or return any lost valuables. The fact that they were even accusing us of stealing it is audacious. After this experience I refuse to spend another dime here. Make sure you keep an eye on all your belongings and walk out with everything you came with because you will not get it back once you leave.

I hosted my company holiday dinner at Empire and I spent close to $7,000, but unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. While the venue is undeniably beautiful, the food quality was shockingly poor—reminiscent of mall-style Asian food.

The salmon dishes were undercooked, the sesame beef came with an overwhelming portion of plain, unseasoned white rice, and the beef itself had a strange taste, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t even beef. Even the wonton soup was awful. The dessert platter was decent but felt like it was pieced together from a grocery store bakery. The drinks were average at best—thankfully, alcohol helped salvage the mood a bit, but my entire team left disappointed.

I reached out to the event coordinator to share my concerns, and while she said she would “investigate” and check for other complaints, I have yet to hear back. Overall, for the amount spent, the food and service were unacceptable. I cannot recommend Empire for an event.

Loud EDM, pricey food options. Large portions, but a little salty and bland. Sign at door advises "trendy clothing should be worn". Got seated at the bar due to jeans and flannel shirt attire. Nice decolletage with the wait staff tho.

Great food, great ambience and great service. T
Didn't know this place was such a vibe from inside and served so many veg items. We had their avocado rice rolls, crispy cauliflower which was delicious, mapo tofu which was great as well, scallian pancakes, and noodles. I would definitely recommend this place. The portion size is good and the service is also great.

Dining at Empire Boston is an unforgettable experience! The ambiance is sleek, modern, and vibrant, making it perfect for a special night out. The food is simply incredible—every dish is beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The sushi is fresh and creative, the dumplings are a must-try, and the Peking duck is out of this world.

The service is impeccable—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. The cocktails are equally impressive, crafted with care and perfectly complementing the dishes.

Empire is hands down one of the best dining spots in Boston. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself, this place delivers on every level. Can’t wait to return!

This place has so much potential. Large space good looking menu but the food was lacking. Sent back our wagyu gyoza cause it was so bland, and the salmon dish was super dry. Friend ordered a chicken noodle dish which didn’t come with chicken and overall just disappointed with the food. Bright spot was definitely the service as they apologized a ton and refunded the gyoza and had the manager even come apologize and offer free dessert. Unfortunately just wasn’t enough to redeem what was coming out of the kitchen.

Empire has terrible servers I came in at 11:30 pm and they states the kitchen closed at 12 pm and that if we were seated we could order food. We got there before 11:30 pm and as we’re sitting we notice two more groups come in. One lady comes over and tells us she’s going to be right with us. A couple mins pass by another server comes over and ask if we been offered drinks we say no and pours us water.A couple more mins pass and another server comes up to and ask if we been served and we say no. Then she comes back gets us order of one drink and we put in our order of food. About 15 mins pass both of the tables we were there before gets there food. So weee waiting a few mins after seeing them get there food the server comes up to our table and say I’m sorry guys because when I served you the KITCHEN CLOSED. We let her know that we had been waiting & we had a server who was with us but kept walking right past us in the beginning we should be able to get our food because we weee seated before 11:30 pm and the other guests before us came after 11:30 pm. She says I’m sorry it’s not your fault the kitchen closed can I offer you dessert. I ask to speak to an manager why would I want dessert and I’m hungry? . It takes 10 mins for the manager SABRINA to come and talk to us. We explain the story and she says let me see what I can do about it. She comes back 5 MINS later and says here’s my card you can email me about your time. She’s doesn’t offer us an gift card or even tries to get her cooks to make us food. I’ve worked in restaurants and customer service for years. I’ve had plenty of managers get cooks back on the grill and make us serve an upset customer food so I was baffled that an MANAGER offers a business card when as a manager you can make decision and if you have an unhappy customer you do everything in your power to make that customer happy. I was shocked because I’ve gon to empire plenty of times and had never had that experience. And for you to let your customer to walk out unhappy and then no food. SABRINA you were wrong and you should’ve taken better steps to assist your customer. That really made me upset and made me not want to come back to empire at all. Terrible.

We ordered the mapo tofu, sweet potato dumplings, avocado salad and scallion pancakes.

The mapo tofu is underwhelming. It consisted of “silken” and fried tofu, diced “seasonal vegetables” peas and carrots in a barely there tasteless sauce and sliced green onions. Overall, I did not enjoy the dish.

The FRIED (doesn’t say fried on the menu) sweet potato dumplings is underwhelming as well. I couldn’t even eat one but my partner enjoyed it.

My partner enjoyed the avocado salad. I don’t eat meat so I can’t give an opinion on it.

The scallions pancake is alright but not worth $18. The sesame dressing is too sweet for my liking.

The establishment feels cozy, the decor is nice and the bathroom was clean. Oh, and the sparkling water was a 5/5, highly recommend.

So I stroll into Empire, thinking it’s just another spot for a quick Chinese meal. But let me tell you, this is no ordinary takeout. I take one bite, and BAM – I’m transported to flavor paradise, like they’ve somehow condensed an entire empire of taste into every dish. The dumplings? Pillows of savory perfection. The General Tso’s chicken? So crispy and coated in a sauce so addictive I’m convinced they’re hiding a secret ingredient in there.

Then the fried rice shows up, and at this point, I’m rethinking my entire life. Fluffy, flavorful, and packed with more goodies than I’ve seen in any fried rice before. I’m shoveling it in like it’s my last meal on Earth. People around me are whispering and giving me strange looks, but I don’t care – I’m in my zone. Empire’s food is the kind that makes you forget about everything else. If I could, I’d move in, pitch a tent, and live off their menu forever.

If you haven’t been to Empire, you’re missing out on culinary greatness. Cancel your plans, skip your next vacation, and get yourself to this restaurant. Empire didn’t just serve me a meal; they served me a whole experience.

First, DO NOT BELIEVE THE GOOGLE RATING, GO TO YELP.

If you like good food, do not go here. The food was beyond terrible with portions that were ridiculously huge with high prices for the low quality. They clearly charge for the portions here. I brought my wife and sister in law (under 21) so we made a consensus not to drink. I wish my wife and I did so the alcohol would make the food taste better.

Let me go into further detail. We ordered the Kung pao cauliflower and the chicken dumplings for an appetizer. The Cauliflower was fried, however, the breading was so moist so there was no crunch whatsoever. The breading fell off the moment we grabbed it with chopsticks. It gave the impression, it was not freshly fried or left to sit in cold oil. The dumplings they were no better, they were dry and had no flavor. The sauce was no better.

As for the entrees, we ordered the Curry noodles, the shrimp tempora, and the pad thai. None of these had any flavor. There is a hole in the wall in Quincy, Ma (Little duck thai) that had MUCH better pad Thai and for Significantly cheaper. The curry noodles were not good, the flavors of the seafood, curry, pork, veggies, and the noodles did not mesh together (coming from a Jamaican man who loves making curry chicken, curry goat, and curry shrimp). Also how does an Asian restaurant not carry yum yum sauce? As for the sushi, my sister in law did not like the food at all. She had others that tasted much better for the price. I’d recommend Wagamama in the prudential or Douzo Sushi in Back Bay. Much better quality, much better price, much better portion sizes.

The restaurant looks nice, and has a club atmosphere which was cool, but the food is clearly reflected on that. Club food is good when you drink haha. Back to the review, we ordered those 5 things and spend a whopping $170 just to take EVERYTHING we ate back home. Never in my life have I asked to pack up an Appetizer 😂. There was no way to finish everything we ordered. To put this into further perspective, we ate at the Rare Steakhouse the night before at the encore (and valet parked). We ordered the lobster rolls, each got a soup, the ladies ordered the half chicken and a salad, while I ordered the seafood risotto. We also ordered dessert and……. We spent $200 without bringing ANYTHING home.

I always thought that when you eat out, you should finish everything there and enjoy your time and experience. If I could ask for my money back I would have. After dinner we ended up giving the food to the less fortunate instead of throwing it away. Id say this is great for kids. No so much a date night

Unprofessional and Uncomfortable Experience

My recent visit to this establishment was extremely disappointing. Multiple cameras were set up near our table, filming without our consent, and other tables were also being recorded. This created an uncomfortable atmosphere. When we addressed this with the male general manager, his response was not only dismissive but also unprofessional. Rather than resolving the issue, he was pointing and laughing in our direction to the table that was filming, which was unacceptable behavior for someone in a leadership position.

Additionally, a member of the group filming approached our table, which made the situation even more unsettling and made us feel unsafe. Unfortunately, the service was equally poor, as our waitress was unfriendly.

Overall, the lack of professionalism from both the management and staff, combined with the inappropriate filming, made for a highly uncomfortable experience. I would not recommend this establishment based on the conduct I witnessed.

I recently had the pleasure of celebrating my daughter’s 15th birthday at Empire Boston, and I have to say, the experience was exceptional from start to finish. As a former resident DJ at The Grand Big Night Entertainment Group, I’m familiar with top-tier hospitality, and Empire certainly delivered.

The reservation team was incredibly attentive, ensuring every detail was taken care of ahead of time. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who went above and beyond to make the celebration special. The level of care and professionalism was outstanding, which made the whole evening run smoothly.

The food was equally impressive. From the appetizers to the main courses, everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor. Empire’s menu offers a great variety, and every dish was prepared with precision and attention to detail. The service was seamless—dishes arrived promptly, and our server was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing.

Overall, Empire Boston provided a dining experience that exceeded expectations in both service and quality. Whether it’s for a special celebration or a casual night out, I can always count on Empire for a fantastic experience.

My husband delivers seafood to Empire, so we called and talked to the chef, who sent appetizers and dessert on the house. I have been to Empire many, many times before, but this was a few years ago and I mainly showed up late for the dance part. I went to empire on a second date thinking I was going to impress my new lady friend with the beautiful restaurants of my home town. Was sat by a table of 3 women and a man that all got into an argument. The man storms off and 2 women continue to yell at each other. I am born and raised in Dorchester so I’m not some whiney yuppie. I should have prefaced my review with that. Now here’s the thing, people get in arguments I get it. This went on for 30 minutes until we left. On minute 15 I started recording the audio to email the GM. In the audio you can hear us asking the waiter to do something about it and all the waiter did was offer us a new table because she didn’t want to disturb them while they verbally accosted each other.

How is that even remotely appropriate with our food and drinks sitting on the table to offer us a new seat? Were they going to go in the kitchen and get us prison lunch trays? Why not just kick the scummy people out that were ruining the vibe of what used to be one of my favorite restaurants?

Beautifully decorated restaurant. Looks amazing from the front door to the private rooms. The service is professional and attentive. Unfortunately, the weak point is the food. While the presentation is great, the taste and textures are off. I eat a lot of Asian cuisines, especially Chinese, and this place just doesn’t serve good food. It is passable but definitely does not cut the mustard for such an exquisite looking restaurant.

I enjoyed the VIPER Sushi, a flavorful combination of unagi, sweet potato tempura, avocado, and spicy rice crisp. While the scallion pancakes were crispy, I think they would benefit from a bit more filling and a stronger scallion flavor.

Overall, it was a wonderful spot for a memorable meal, perfect for a special evening out!

As I am an influencer, and I travel and explore restaurants, the food was fresh and delicious as expected. I asked the bartender, whose name was Anastasia, her opinion on food and drinks and she gave them to me. I didn’t want to order too much as I was by myself and I didn’t want to waste food. As I am ordering, she asked me “ do I have a credit card” before my meal. Now the only time I’m asked for credit card to start a tab is when I’m at a bar ordering drinks. I thought it was strange, but I said “” sure” and gave her my credit card with no problem . I was the only person at the bar at the time, so I decided to wait and see if this their normal “business as usual” or was I being singled out as a young black woman before I jump to conclusions. A white man, to the right of me, came to the bar and he outright bought his drinks. A couple came to the left of me and ordered drinks. I’d be lying if I said I knew where they were from but they were not black. The GF went to the bathroom and came back. They began ordering their food and no credit card was asked at the beginning or end of their order. I got my tab and tipped at my normal 20% and left. I can honestly say that I am not usually treated like this in anyway as I travel across the US from Florida, to New York, DC, LA, Vegas. But this is Boston. I know prejudices/biases are deeply ingrained in some communities. I don’t know what time period they’re stuck in. Everyone has money now. Would I go back? Hmmmm I don’t know. I myself was a bartender in 2009. I’ve upgraded my life a few times since then. Do I would want to be treated differently by a bartender that I make way more money than? And if that’s there way of treating certain customers, (passive aggressive) I’d rather take my money and business elsewhere.
I blame it on Boston totally.

The place was beautiful and food was great !

We were group of 7 people, we had a reservation for 6:45pm. Till we got our table we were notified 3 times with 3 different people that we got only time to be there until 8:00pm. We said ok but it was already disappointed and rash feeling. So we decided to get rolls for our limited time. Our waitress, I don’t remember her name bit she was in red lipstick, she was very unpleasant and unprofessional. Like someone forced her to be there and work for the restaurant. Regrettably, the service we received did not meet our expectations we didn’t want to stay one more extra minute there.

In two separate calls and a scouting visit the day before I was assured that my business dinner could be accommodated in a quiet space allowing conversation. 2. That night, staff could not honor our 8pm reservation and kept us waiting until 8:20 when I threatened management with bad reviews. 3. It was loud. 4. It was too dark to read the menu. The team went over budget when waitstaff suggested we just get omakase. 5. Won’t be returning. Cannot recommend for any kind of serious dinner or timetable.

They have a weird rule of not cutting cakes indoors by customers but the chef can cut it for a fee of 3 dollar per person.

This is my first time here in Boston, I’m visiting from Las Vegas expecting to have to best time of my life only for the Bartenders at Empire to ruin everything over a simple request. I asked for an Adios and was given tequila on rocks instead, and expected to pay for something I didn’t order. It’s sad to find out that your bartenders don’t know what an Adios Drink is.
Future tip: don’t serve a drink unless you know what it is and know how to make it
Because whatever I was given to shut up wasn’t the drink I wanted haha

This was previously my favorite restaurant. We have been coming here for the last three years, however we went yesterday night expecting continued consistency and were met with great disappointment. We ordered our usuals and everything was off. To start the beef teppanyaki tasted like a different cut of meat than usual, it was also dry and overcooked. Then the Empire House Maki Sushi was just off, it wasn’t warmed properly like usual and just didn’t taste the same or good at all. I guess i’ll have to find a new restaurant.

Had dinner at this location on Saturday, March 23rd...and it was great

Reservations are a must...complimentary coat checking on this rainy evening was a plus...hostess sat us down at our table overlooking the open air kitchen, which i am a big fan of...right away we were asked if we want still or sparking water...waitress came right after that and took our drink orders...we chose many things off the menu to name as we shared many many apps, but they were all excellent...the specialty drinks to choose from were fun, i tried the peach mai tai...didnt have dessert as we were full...NOW THE FUN PARTS BEGINS, this place turns into a mini lounge/night club with a DJ and that part was LIT...once we were done at our dinner table, we moved to the middle open air space with the high boy tables and hung out there for the rest of the night...excellent vibes, excellent crowd looking to have a great time with friends, drinks and music...easy access to get drinks...VIP available for bottle service for those that choose...great place to celebrate bday parties, and then stay for the music.

For those that have been in NYC and gone to TAO Downtown, its compare Empire to that location( but not up to TAO level )

Its my first time at this location, but will def be back and will recommend to others that come visit Boston

Don’t go here. Bought the bar crawl pass and would not accept a legal license of 22 because it wouldn’t “scan”. They would not accept it even if a police officer can validated it. Also would not put the license number into the system to confirm the license was real. Never trying Empire again. I hope for you that go get lucky that the scanner works!

If you are looking for an upscale Asian restaurant that has a modern vibe, this is the place. They have an exceptional selection of food that has fulfilling taste and incredible sauces that amplify the overall quality of the food. The interior decor was outstanding with Asian culture designed around its massive space. Our server Tom(Bryan) was very helpful with our food selection and recommendations for what to get to eat/drink. If you want your night to end very well, get the Baked Alaskan dessert.

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to go to Empire for awhile now and they really exceeded all expectations for our date night! The shrimp tempura futo, was amazing and Empire's rolls were a great size as well The creatively served drinks, including the tantalizing red berry martini and the heavenly cloud 9, added an extra layer of delight to the evening. With their perfect balance of flavors and visually captivating presentations, these beverages truly elevated our dining experience. Without a doubt, Empire deserves the best recommendation for its outstanding combination of exceptional customer service, remarkable cuisine, and unforgettable flavors. Honestly it was a perfect 10/10 experience and they’ll definitely be seeing us back!

We visited Empire for their all-you-can-eat sushi event on Monday night. We have been there in years past and thoroughly enjoyed both the service, food, and setting.

While our server Rebecca was absolutely amazing (attentive and courteous without being overbearing), the quality of the food severely declined over the years. The sushi was bland and uncreative. We could barely get down some of the sushi as it was quite unappetizing. While the quality plummeted, the price more than doubled since pre-Covid. The restaurant was also showing signs of wear with several tears and wear marks in the carpeting.

We should have raised these objections at Empire, but it would not have altered our impressions. We paid our bill and gladly left a tip representative of the service we received, but the food was not worth the $49/person fee. Unfortunately, we will not be back.

Great interiors, fun music and good drinks. The menu is pricy and the taste of the dishes is not up to par with the prices, but the portion sizes are pretty big. If ambience is a big part of your dining experience and you’re willing to pay for it - this is the place for you. I haven’t experienced this place when it turns into a club though.

Perfect location with beautiful ambience for a date! Everything was amazing but food was average for the price . Portion sizes were pretty good .we tried the party cocktail for 2 which was flavourful and loved it. The spring rolls were fantastic! Fresh and piping hot! Salt and pepper wings were ok and so was the fried rice! We found the baked Alaska very disappointing! Didn’t like the after taste and super sweet!

Good place to eat asian food! However, the night we came they were running behind schedule (it happens). In the mean time i wasn’t aware the Empire was a bar/night club as well a restaurant. My bad. Because the music was very loud and “night club” music.

I wanted to like Empire, I really did. We were visiting for a friend’s birthday, and the service was so bad that I will not be back!

Let me preface by saying that the kitchen was on their A-Game last night. Their food SLAPS, I will be thinking about the crispy rice bites for a good while to come, and the duck two ways was so tender. It really seemed like everyone was enjoying the food, and the kitchen was super quick, too.

But for the price point of this restaurant, (expecting to pay at least $100-150/head), the service was non-existent. Our server was clearly overwhelmed and had a section that was too big. However, this was made worse because the support staff were rude and not helpful at all. We also did not see a manager all night.

The front of the restaurant turns into a club late at night, so maybe that's their focus. If Empire wants to capture the Boston dining crowd, the restaurant needs more time and attention to table service. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Sushi Experience №165

Food is bland, very mediocre, lower all ur expectations. If it’s spiced it’s unevenly spiced, I mean this kitchen needs a savior. I ordered a starter, a main, and sushi and they were all bleghhh. I wouldn’t come back.
Service wasn’t welcoming, I was rushed off our table that the next reservation was coming in 5min, 30min later still nobody had showed up. They’re quick to clear you off.
Not kid friendly. Inside ambiance is good, appealing that’s about it. I wouldn’t waste my time coming here again or recommending this place to anyone. It’s waste of space.

Would have been 1 star but the waiter was very nice. There were mice throughout this restaurant! When we spotted one, we agreed to move tables to be away from the kitchen. When we spotter another one after moving, we had had enough and decided to leave. Management was stoic and unapologetic, like they were not surprised that there were mice. We had to fight to not pay full price - we left a major of the food untouched at the table. Very disappointed, this is supposed to be an upscale restaurant and it is expensive so standards should be higher.

The decor is striking and our service was attentive, but the food was bland and underwhelming. I had a watery miso soup and a lobster tempura roll that tasted like a funnel cake. We were eager to investigate this location. It's a classy eatery with delicious sushi and an inviting atmosphere. The moment we arrived and when we inquired for the endless empire menu, also known as the all-you-can-eat menu, the Mexican American waitress belittled us and instructed us to read the menu online, which we did if the restaurant didn't have a printed version.
But he didn’t bother to say anything but was telling us NOT TO TAKE OUT the foods. Then he was super pushy and rushed, and asked us to order whenever we decided which I assume this is not the standards of Empire.

So, we got the food, hot and sour, it was disgusting, and also had nuts, which we had never seen in our lives. We couldn't even bring ourselves to take a photo of that meal. The pad Thai was super soapy except sushi. They were delicious.
