Japanese restaurant
Nagomi Izakaya is an absolute gem that exceeded all expectations! From the moment we sat down, the experience was nothing short of spectacular. We indulged in a range of dishes, including the wagyu beef scallop, roasted wagyu beef maki, chirashi don, and the torched toro and uni hand rolls, and each dish was an extraordinary delight. The attention to detail was impeccable, with flavors and presentation executed to perfection.
The staff was not only attentive but also exceptionally knowledgeable and eager to help, enhancing our overall dining experience. Every bite was a testament to the chef's skill and dedication. To top it all off, the pricing was surprisingly reasonable for the quality of food and service provided. If you're seeking an unforgettable dining experience with top-tier cuisine and warm, inviting service, Nagomi Izakaya is the place to be. Highly recommended!

The menu offers a wide variety of options, from classic sushi rolls to innovative dishes, all of which are delicious. The restaurant's ambiance is elegant, and the service is attentive and welcoming, making you feel right at home. I highly recommend the salmon sashimi, tempura, wagyu beef sushi, and foie gras sushi, and oyster —they are not to be missed. Whether you're dining with friends or family, this place is an excellent choice. Highly recommended!

We came in on our date night after seeing a video about this place on tiktok and loved it. We made the reservation on their website, which requires a deposit to be made, but that gets refunded on arriving.
The place has a peaceful, cozy atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful.
We ordered the omekase sets, and they have the 8 piece for $30 and 15 piece for $68. Both were so good and tasty! We also got the japanese passion fruit margarita, which had an interesting depth of flavor and their sparkling sake bottle. Next time, we definitely have to try their premium chef's omekase sets! Also, their matcha cheesecake with matcha ice cream was the perfect way to end the meal.

The best Sushi Spot in the heart of BU campus! I have been coming here whenever I have a sushi craving since freshmen year. For more economical sets, I would do the sushi entrée combo. For dates or just when I want nigiris or donburi, the quality of fish in sashimi rarely misses. They added an omakase set where you can 6 pieces of curated nigiri for $30 and 15 pieces for $68 which is not that bad. Even though it all comes on one plate but the quality still hits✨ I would MUCH PREFER to come here than basho in GSU.

I have dined here before and had great donburi bowls, sushi rolls, and fried rice here before. I recently got their signature omakase for 1, which includes a nice assortment of menu highlights and quality sushi for a fair price. I really appreciate their expansive menu with well-prepared dishes.
Their sushi is very fresh for the most part. However, I felt that some of the sashimi in the omakase set was sliced too cold, so it tasted like it came out of the freezer. The negi toro roll with caviar was amazing. The aburi sushi was excellently smoky with great accompaniments that gave each bite a nice, bright finish. Although I don't think the fish and rice texture were to omakase standards, I appreciated the variety for its price point.
The restaurant has a great dining atmosphere, incredibly polite staff, and cooks traditional dishes very well. One could thoroughly enjoy a dish as simple as miso soup here! It doesn't disappoint.

Nagomi is a gem of a Japanese restaurant in Boston, offering a delightful dining experience that is sure to please any fan of Japanese cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with a charming interior that sets the tone for the meal ahead.
But it is the food that truly shines at Nagomi. The sushi is fresh and expertly prepared, with each piece a testament to the chef's skill and dedication to the craft. The sashimi bowl, in particular, is a work of art, with a variety of fish beautifully arranged in a picturesque display that is almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.
Beyond the sushi, Nagomi offers a range of cooked dishes that are equally delicious. From the miso soup to the cooked fish, everything is prepared with care and attention to detail, resulting in a meal that is as satisfying as it is delicious.
Nagomi is a restaurant that is well worth a visit for anyone looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience in Boston. With its charming ambiance, good service, and excellent food, Nagomi is a restaurant that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

One my favorite spots to bring friends and family for above average sushi and Japanese food. They have a wide range of offerings, from simple makis to elaborate rolls, donburis, ramens, and more. The menu is huge so it’s a little overwhelming, but everything I’ve tried is high quality and delicious. Pleasant and timely service and a laid back but self assured atmosphere. Would be good for both a casual lunch and date night. Nagomi Izakaya has something for everyone!

My partner and I came here for dinner on a Friday night, walked in without a reservation and were seated right away. We got some unfiltered sake and sparking sake from the specials menu and both were fantastic. We ordered the pork gyoza, spicy edamame, and shishito peppers as appetizers. The gyoza and edamame were amazing and the shishito peppers were solid, but probably wouldn’t get them again. The menu is massive with multiple omakase options, sushi, sashimi, maki, and Korean/japanese entrees. We ordered the sake salmon sashimi which was superb. The medium-fatty tuna was also amazing. The torched toro special maki was one of the best maki rolls I’ve ever had. Overall we will back back to try more of this menu. The service was very good and prompt and the vibe is very nice as well.

I enjoyed the overall vibe and the mood of the restaurant! I thought it went well with the cuisine you guys provide in the restaurant. I also really liked that some dishes were prepared in front of the bar, where the food preparation process was visible to the customers. I think it gives that trust factor that you guys are providing the best for the customers by trying not to hide anything.

We ordered 2 omakase with a few side dishes. The food was ok, the service was mediocre at best. When we pay, the waiter asked: "you only tip 10%? The minimum on the screen is 18%".
What kind of restaurant asking for more tip like this? Not mentioning there was absolutely no service beside bringing the food to the table. I'm not tipping 25 bucks just for you to bring the dishes to the table.
Should have not tipped at all.

This place is super cute! They have a little sand garden and koi pond in the entrance, the lighting is just right - not too dark, which is great for seeing what I'm eating.
We got the premium omakase. The first thing I liked was that they moved us to a bigger table when we ordered the omakase so there was more room for the food. Small thoughtful details like this were sprinkled throughout our experience here. The meal included traditional vegetable gyozas and edamame in generous portions, and their house sake either hot or iced. The food came well-presented, and flavored exquisitely. I like that there were shiso leaves throughout to eat with the heavier-flavored sashimi. The uni was light and sweet, the sushi presented in order according to flavor. I found this experience to be delightful and thoughtful. Our server was very friendly and just the right amount of attentiveness. Lastly, especially for this neighborhood, everything was very reasonably priced. We like to eat a lot and the complaint I usually have with omakase is I'll spend a few hundred dollars and walk away not full, but it was not the case here.
Will be back to try some a la carte selections!

I visited this sushi restaurant with high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience ended terribly. Shortly after eating, I suffered intense stomach pains and ended up vomiting everything. It was a clear case of food poisoning. This was a huge letdown and has completely deterred me from returning. If you want food poisoning, then this restaurant is the place to go!

Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the wagyu fried rice and roasted fois gras appetizer. The sushi set and the aburi sushi set were also tasteful. We had no complaints about the food; the only thing was that this place was expensive for what we ordered (110+/p).

Yesterday was our first time at Nagomi Izakaya restaurant. And unfortunately, it will be our last time as well. The price was okay, but I would say it is more expensive compare to other places. However, I wanted to take the time to write review about their food and their horrible service.
My boyfriend and I ordered the omakase set along with other dishes. The food was good; however, once we got home we both had horrible stomach ache and severe diarrhea. Our symptoms lasted for the next day as well. We both thought it would be our next favorite Japanese restaurant, but unfortunately, it won’t be. I think it’s because their foods were not properly cleaned and contained many bacteria.
Secondly, I wanted to speak about their service. We have been so many top restaurants in boston, and we can truly say the service was 2/5 stars. The server came and grabbed our plates when my boyfriend was still eating his last bite of sashimi. It was beyond rude. It happened throughout the whole time we were there. I’d say 2-3 times. I’m not sure if there are shortages of plates in the kitchen since it was a Friday’s night, but regardless they should have asked.
If you want to enjoy a good sushi place, without having stomachache and diarrhea and a horrible service afterward I highly would NOT recommend this place. Thanks .

Food is good, the nagomi don is fresh. But the service is subpar --- the whole time I was there I felt I was being rushed. The server rushed to take our order, rushed to collect our plates even though we are not quite done yet, and rushed to make us pay so that they can sit the next round of customers --- total disregard of dinning experience.

Uber Eat order of the 8 set Aburi sushi. Only got the 6 set with a non-refundable option. Can’t event pay enough attention to the order being placed. The non-refundable order makes no sense. Caution for online orders.
UPDATES - Called the restaurant and was left with the line open and no response. Hanged up the phone and tried to redialed with the same number, I was notified that my call could not be completed. Tried again with my other phone, it went through. Apparently the previous number was blocked by the restaurant. Very good gesture of how you approached to address customers’ concerns. Leaving a nice note is probably all you can do. This restaurant would be off from my list for good. I would suggest the same for others.

Came here recommended by a friend. The place was not crowded around lunchtime on the weekend so we got seated right away. The foie gras and wagyu beef tartare were tasty but the sizes were too tiny for each piece. Korokke was freshly made and very crunchy.
However, the uni fried rice was quite disappointing. The uni from the dish had a strong raw taste that didn’t taste fresh.
Overall, the ambiance was not bad and service was quite efficient. It’s a nice place for small groups of people.

My new favorite Japanese restaurant in Boston! What a gem! I enjoyed everything we ordered. My favorite has to be the Wagyu fried rice and the roasted foie gras maki. All the dishes were rich and flavorful. The margarita was also amazing - floral notes with yuzu - had just the right amount of sweetness. Can’t wait to come back and try other dishes!
My only complaint was that the service is slow. There was one waitress for the whole restaurant so it took a while to place our order and get water refills etc. Regardless the food made up for it! Highly recommend.

Not traditional, weird music, but you know what, it was fun and enjoyable and the food was very good. Uni was not metallic, scallops were sweet, ikura was seasoned well, Kariagge was OK, sake portions large, ramen was def a Chinese riff with wood ear and arugula (weird but good, not ramen). Would come back.

I love this place so much! Not one dish I've gotten here that I didn't like. My fav starters are uni spoons, toro tartare and the oysters w uni.. the toro set was also amazing, toro in different ways; Sashimi, nigiri' maki and sashimi w kizami wassabi. Drooling just thinking about this place. Basically anything u ordered, u wont be disappointed and the menu is huge. So if you don't like sushi (I am judging u) but there's a bunch of other options to choose from. ALSO!! Must try the foie gras nigiri I love anything w foie gras and not a lot of sushi restaurants have it. The service here was also top tier 5/5!! I believe our servers name was kat! Will def be back weekly.

I wanted to try Nagomi Izakaya for awhile as a potential date/sushi spot. Especially seeing the pictures and reviews. It was mostly positive, but some mixed as well, so I went solo in person today to see for myself. And it didn't disappoint. Booked on OpenTable, which was smooth, and I was the first one in. Service was fast with water and food being served promptly, though they were slow giving me my check at the end, which I equate to the restaurant just opening. I loved the interior vibe though. The outside is plain, but the inside is cozy, with the music not being too loud, which is perfect for conversation. Also, I love the koy pond/sand. I played it safe mainly having sushi entrees and basic app like Takoyaki. Delicious! And the quality was good; it didn't fall apart. Portion was enough for me. But trying it in person quelled any worries I had. A gem in the area. It might cost more for some items. And everything likely won't be a hit (how could it be). But think of location and the various food options. You can't get this much food. I think it's worth it! And I'll be back soon

This is not the traditionally prepared Japanese food in the form you will eat in Japan, but it’s like many US Japanese styles restaurants. When the sushi counter cooler was opened the smell of bleach was pretty heavy from my side of the counter. The shishito had some kind of creamy red sauce on it. If you have eaten Japanese food in Japan or even a good NY or LA Japanese restaurant with serious Japanese cooks, this might not do the trick for you. I would probably not take a Japanese guest here either. But then, a lot of these faux Japanese restaurants are out there in the US now, and if you like that, this place is as good as any of them for the price.

I went there because of advertising on Instagram, it looked worthwhile and delicious on the pictures. But in life I considered that the dishes are way smaller and fish for sushi is cheap and doesn't have a taste. For example, look at this salmon on my picture: it has pieces of skin and is extra thin, not like Japanese sushi at all. And this small dish including disgusting calamari is for 38$!!! The Uni was fine. Makis are big but tasteless. I would wish smaller but with good quality of fish.

Ordered the nagomi don and half of the Uni had a FOUL SMELL and was clearly spoiled. It was placed underneath the Uni that looked fine so that it wouldn’t be found.
Nagomi is CHEAP enough to serve you their SPOILED food. Unsanitary and a unethical.
Avoid ordering anything that has Uni, scallops, Ikura as those seafoods aren’t as popular and they’ll try to serve it off to you.
Also when we were seated, the dishes still had remnants of food that were stuck on them. Disgusting place to eat.
The service was poor and the food is definitely overpriced for the quality of food you’d expect.
I’m sure I’ll receive a generic empty apology from the owner and promises to be better. I guarantee that things will remain in the downtrend and nothing will change.
You will have a much better dining experience going anywhere else for sushi.
Tora Japanese restaurant and Genki Ya are 1000x better than this disgusting place. Thank me later.

A horrible fakeJapanese restaurant run by a group of Chinese people. Overpriced bad food. Sake is below average cheap stuff. The fish is over fried when it should be grilled. Sushi rice and shoyo is disgustingly sour. Overrated and definitely not Japanese food nor even proper Asian food.

Best Japanese restaurant in Boston! Both the food and cocktails were splendid. We ordered the Omakase (shown in the picture) for ~ $50 and enjoyed everything served. I would recommend ordering another dish in addition to the Omakase as you’ll only get ~ 8 pieces per person.

This place is good. Every time i take someone here they always thank me for taking them there (even when I’m not the one paying). The sushis are really good. The wagyu fried rice is good. Edamame is pretty standard. Overall, great resto with many food options. It gets real crowded sometimes though

I ordered the gyoza and I wish it has more filling. The flavor was good but they were a little skimp. The specialty roll I got (Snow mountain roll) was the best thing I ordered. I also got the classic spicy salmon maki which lacked spice and only had a very small amount of spicy mayo on top. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. Overall the experience was okay.

Salmon in salmon don is thin and few pieces. When we asked slightly torched, it’s nearly well done (because they are tooo thin!!). Salmon blocks are also tiny. It should be called salmon chips.
Chirashi maki is also with very less sashimi (perhaps 2-3 slices in total). We felt the entire restaurant is cost down in ingredient but still maintain a high price.

Among the mid-tier sushi places in the city, Nagomi Izakaya certainly ranks within the top five. Their extensive menu features everything from sushi and donburi to Japanese ramen and curry, and they’re one of the very few restaurants in the city that has authentic Japanese interior design. During my past few visits, I really enjoyed their donburi, and nagomi don and nigitoro don were two of my favorites.
On my recent visit, I also tried their premium omakase, but this was unfortunately one of the most underwhelming omakase I’ve had in a while. Consisted of 5 nigiri, 3 sashimi pieces, 3 small rolls, 1 oyster, and a small piece of uni, the omakase was certainly overpriced. Compared to other omakase I’ve had at a similar price in other cities, this was definitely on the lower end of the spectrum. While the quality of the torched tuna, foie gras, and salmon nigiri was top notch, the flavors were one-dimensional - lightly torched fatty pieces.
Nevertheless, this is still a great option if you’re looking for a typical Japanese meal, and I would probably go back to try more from their donburi and fried rice menu.

Terrible food. Everything from frozen. Nice interiors and plating but no care in the food and not authentic at all. Shishito pepper was soft and squishy, not crispy and fresh; the grilled saba was stinky; sushi was rolled poorly; karaage was just frozen chicken nuggets. Too expensive for what they serve and $8 for one 10oz can of asahi

The sushi was ok except for the yellow tail which was so chewy I had to spit it out.
Do not get the Omakase. Not because of the quality - it was ok - but because the price doesn’t make sense for what you get. If you ordered everything provided by itself it would be less money. Also - not even close to enough food. I had to order more off the menu.

We got the potato croquettes (great), steamed edamame (classic), and all different kinds of maki. There are lots of vegetarian sushi options which is great, since many other places usually only have cucumber rolls. The Idaho maki and eel maki were particularly good.

My wife and I stopped in for dinner per the recommendation of a friend that's been suggesting it for a while. We were pleasantly surprised with the overall package.
Food was great. Chutoro and Otoro nigiri were delicious and properly different from each other. The Fashion Maki was rich and balanced, albeit more to my personal taste than hers. The Hokkaido Don was absolutely delicious: scallop, uni, and ikura all super fresh. I'm proud I could tell where the uni was from by its taste and freshness! Appetizers were all fresh and went well with the sake and beer we got. Wagyu tartare and Foi Gras apps were well balanced.
Service was incredibly prompt and professional. Shu and the server helping her did a wonderful job throughout our entire meal. We never had to ask for anything, it was all preemptively done.
Nagomi should be proud. The interior is beautiful (although I'd suggest curtains to make it more intimate and block out the intrusive scenery of construction around Kenmore), service is wonderful, and the food is obviously fresh and well executed. It's absolutely a deal for what you get. We'll be back with my new in laws when they visit the States next week.

It's ok. I liked the decorum and the food was good. I'd take a date here but they don't have many tables for 2+ people.

Didn't like the food here. The pork fried rice was soggy, the ramen broth was watery with no favor, the sushi had too much cheese in it etc, And the girl who works the front would not let us get a table because we weren't a party of 4 so we had to sit at the bar, even though 3 other parties of 2 came right after us and got a table with no problems.

The quality of the food is consistently good. However, except for the greeter, the service overall was rushed. They just want you to go in, eat and leave as soon as possible. So much for dining out after the end of COVID. No, thank. Not again.

I love this hidden gem! I’ve been here over 10 times since they’ve opened last year and the sushi and service are consistently excellent. The quality is much higher than you’d expect for the price point. I tend to order sushi (black dragon maki and the spicy salmon maki) and it is super fresh. My partner tends to order the pork katsu and he raves about the pork and the sauce. He also loves the ramen and curry. You really can’t get a bad meal here.

I hope someone read this review before u come the restaurant .I am a loyalty customer here. I had dinner here yesterday, but an unexpected thing happened. I ordered some appetizers ,but the service person don't want me make order, I asked why, service person say the fry oil is black color ."black"? I asked . Yes is black. The service person said .it was true, the restaurant 's boss let kitchen chef continue to use the oil after it is black color . Just to save money. Fry oil price expensive now. I asked why told me, services person said because the boss took they too much commission of tips for the Chef, Omg! won't be come back .

Cute dining spot with sushi rolls, don, ramen, and teriyaki bowls. Seems like a regular student hangout near BU campus.

Excellent omakase plate with sake for only $50. Includes oyster, uni, caviar.

Excellent food but very expensive. Think Tokyo prices. I had a maki combo and tea and with tip it was close to thirty dollars.

We had maki that was not really fresh. It’s definitely a college sushi place where they give a lot of sushi cheap but there are better quality places to go for sushi.

Had a sumptuous dinner with sushi. What is a feast. Oyster plate is so fresh. Sushi plates are excellent. We ordered house special for two as it comes with soup, plater of sushi and sake - we chose warm sake 🍶 . Nice presentation of foods. We cleaned up plates one after another and drank to the last drop.

I went to the restaurant with my friend and her dish had a hair. We asked our waiter and the manager to take a look at it. They never admitted the was a hair but at the end they took the bill off of the dish. After we payed and wrote down tips, the server immediately checked the amount in front of us and she started asking us why she’s only getting the amount and complained that she lives off by the tips. She called manager for the issue. It was not the best experience we had.

If you are looking for a go to spot after work, this is the place you must try. It’s a cute little Japanese restaurant in Fenway area with great sashimi. The Nagomi Don is a die for - with just $30 you can taste uni, ikura, chives, and a good variety of sashimi. The house sake and the service I received were both decent. There aren’t a waiting line so I don’t think you need to reserve in advance. It’s definitely a great experience and I’ll be back again.

Nice place to get some well prepared Japanese snacks and sushi. Our agedashi tofu was delicious and our spicy maki combination was also excellent. Ice cold Japanese beers go well with these.

Spectacular Japanese sushi house experience.
They do offer a variety of Japanese dishes, such as ramen.
They have a nice selection of beverages.
You do have to climb a flight of stairs to dine in, so do call ahead if you are in need of assistance with seating.
I recommend making a reservation.

Lovely place! Very fast serve and tasty dishes. I love the salmon and uni on the rice but the uni can be a little bit fishy if you are not used to being a 🦈. Tempura is not traditional, too oily and thick. No bbq at lunch.

Delicious...favorite Izakaya in Boston. Sushi is great as well.

Some of the best Japanese food I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot. It certainly a little pricey, and portions are on the smaller side, but not to the point of some of the other incredibly overpriced sushi restaurants. Everything we ate was incredible - uni, toro, wagyu - all some of the best quality I’ve had in Boston. Will be back.

The fish was not fresh. Most pieces were weirdly warm and very fishy in a way left an odd after-taste (I know it's all fish, but some stuff is not supposed to be that fishy). The menu is poorly designed. Make sure you're reading descriptions as images grouped with a menu item don't necessarily show that item. The one positive is that the wait staff was very nice; though, I did have to flag a random waiter down to bring us the bill since, after some time waiting and looking around, ours was nowhere to be seen.

The omakase is neither good enough in quality nor large enough for its price. You will regret paying for it. The tempura is not crispy, and the inside is cold; it is clear that it was not made recently. The miso soup appetizer is of exceptionally poor quality, not good enough for a supermarket.
Overall, this restaurant is not a good pick for those interested in good, authentic Japanese food.

Really fresh sashimi for Boston. Creative, but really good flavors and presentation. Highly recommend. Ps sit at the bar! (party of 2)

The Donburis (both raw and cooked) at this place are great and they have a lot of variety to choose from. The chef omakase looks amazing and basically I think you can't go wrong with the sushi here. The atmosphere is cozy whether you sit at the bar or the tables, and the service is good.
However I would say that if you are expecting traditional izakaya dishes here like takowasa and Okonomiyaki they will not have them here. I consider it honestly more as a sushi restaurant than a typical izakaya. The ramen also aren't quite up to par with a lot of other shops in Boston, but it does its job and that's not what this place is known for anyway. I would steer away from the ramen if you have a preference for thicker and chewier noodle texture.
Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back to try out more of their dishes :) and if you like Uni, they have a lot of choices that incorporate them here.

One of the best omakase experiences I had. Both sushi and sashimi were fresh and flavorful. Even simple elements of the meal such as the tinge in sweetness of the soy sauce or the kick of the warm sake will be something I won't forget. Thank you Nagomi Izakaya, and the best waiter in Boston, Grun , for this culinary experience.

Nagomi has been an amazing experience and has been worth it. We got the premium omakase for 2 and compared to other omakases of its quality(we've experienced at least a dozen other omakases at other places cause we're irresponsible with money), this would have been at least $200. For dessert we had the brownie with vanilla ice cream (menu said green tea but we asked if we can sub it) and it perfectly rounded out the meal. Our waiter Grun was delightful and attentive, we wish him and the restaurant the best! Coming from NYC we sadly can't visit all the time but we hope they become prosperous and hope for the best in the future!

My boyfriend and I went out for our anniversary and this is a new restaurant we tried. The food was pretty good, however our server kept hovering over us. It kinda felt like every 5 mins, they came over and we felt we were being rushed to leave. We enjoyed our dinner, but the constant hovering was a little much.
