Sleek, modern Japanese restaurant with a sushi bar, also serving cooked dishes, ramen & rice wine.
Haven’t been here for a min, more like a little over a year 🤭. This used to be one of our favorite sushi restaurants before we moved away.
Always love the atmosphere , the inside setting is very much like an authentic restaurant. Wall decoration are really fun to look at.
During this visit , the service was as good as always, friendly and attentive.
However, we were not a big fan of some of the dishes they added to the seasonal menu , for instance , the fried ball appetizer, and added Sriracha to some of the sushi rolls making spicy. Personally, I like Sriracha, however after Sriracha is added to sushi, I personally feel a change the flavor the sushi should have. Also the sauce added to the sashimi appetizer felt like it shouldn’t be there.
Value- didn’t feel there was too much of a price jump, still pretty decent and reasonable.
Parking- nearby Silver Spring downtown parking garages are available.

This is delivery so not really commenting on service or atmosphere. I got the Nashville chicken roll and crunchy spicy tuna roll. The Nashville chicken roll was REALLY good and also packed a decent amount of heat. I highly recommend this roll. Crunchy spicy tuna roll was fine but didn't taste spicy. This may have been due to the Nashville roll. Eel sashimi was okay. I would stick to rolls here which isn't a bad thing because they have so many unique and different kinds.

On Friday 05/24/24
I ordered 2 Hawaiian bad boys
1 crunchy yellow tail & 1 volcano roll.
I’ve been coming to this location for over 5 years now.
This is the first time I had to send back a roll.
My cousin ate it because she was starving. Me on the other hand couldn’t force myself to eat another bad roll.
The shrimp were overcooked, the sushi was so small & way too spicy! I love spicy, but it was unbearable compared to the other visits. The waitress told us “there’s a new sushi chef”. I was so disappointed because I’ve NEVER had a bad experience with them.
I asked to exchange my sushi, they took it brought out a different roll however, they still charged me for the roll I sent back instead of making a price adjustment. Don’t think I’ll be coming back to this location. Truly disappointing. & no, the manager did not follow up, he just walked around the restaurant seating ppl. This place has gone downhill.
I will also show 2 pictures to compare.
The 1st picture is from Friday (disgusting
The second picture is from February (amazing & what I’m used to)
Look at the difference in quality.

I really wanted to love this place, but I left with mixed feelings. First, I want to commend the servers and kitchen staff—they do their jobs well and provide excellent service. However, the individual who handles payments and stands by the door needs to go. His behavior is detrimental to the restaurant's atmosphere. He consistently yells at and demeans the staff, which creates a tense and uncomfortable environment. It’s unacceptable to see an employee treated this way in front of customers. Additionally, he doesn’t provide a proper storage area for their personal belongings, instead directing them to leave their bags in the bathroom. If things don’t change, this individual could be the downfall of the restaurant.
Regarding the food, the menu needs some reworking. The sushi was the highlight, but the ramen options were disappointing. I’ve had ramen in many cities and countries, and this was among the worst. The inclusion of a cup of onions was baffling, and toppings like red cabbage and spinach were unusual choices. Typically, veggie ramen would feature ingredients like nori, mushrooms, edamame, corn, green onions, or bok choy. The miso broth was essentially just miso soup, and the broth in the spicy ramen was so watered down that my boyfriend couldn’t finish his bowl. We ended up leaving our ramen bowls mostly full and ordered more sushi instead. Overall, the experience was disappointing, with the only redeeming qualities being the sushi and the excellent service from the servers and kitchen staff.

Last night I visited Sushi Jin Silver Spring and was unfortunately disappointed by my experience. While the food was satisfactory, the atmosphere was marred by unprofessional behavior from the management. The manager was vocally criticizing the staff right in front of customers, which not only embarrassed the employees but also made the dining experience uncomfortable for everyone present.
It's important for any establishment to maintain a respectful and supportive environment, and I hope this feedback encourages the management to reconsider how they handle such situations in the future. I believe employees thrive in a positive atmosphere, and it would greatly enhance the overall experience for diners as well.

Disappointed. I like to visit lots of sushi and ramen shops and this one left me wanting. If you are searching specifically for ramen, skip this place. They only have 3 options.
I got the kimchi pork belly ramen. The pork belly was the toughest and most over cooked pork belly I’ve ever had. I actually thought it was beef at first. The fat was tough and not rendered down in whatever their cooking process was. Also as you can see the egg was not properly boiled so it was still runny inside. That’s a major tell if a ramen place is good or not. The broth and kimchi was really good and so were the noodles.
I got nigiri 🍣 and a salmon roll just to see what that was like. Very pricy for what I got. $6.95 for the nigiri and 6.95 for the salmon roll. The atmosphere was REALLY cool. Like ones back in Japan. Very authentic to something you’d find in Tokyo. However they didn’t have the AC on and it was really warm inside - almost to the point of discomfort.
But probably the most disappointing aspect was the service. I was warm when I came in and greeted my server, I would say thank you a lot but she never spoke back to me. No “you’re welcome” or anything like that. Finally I stopped trying to be polite as I felt dumb since it wasn’t being given back to me. Everyone has off days I suppose. Neat local spot, but if you are hunting for ramen I highly encourage you to try elsewhere.

Chicken yakitori was deep fried rather than grilled as the dish is designed to be. I ordered the yellowtail roll, which had the bloodline still attached. I asked if I could get a new roll, they came back and said that was the skin. I unrolled the roll and half the piece of fish was darker red.
They did not take the charge off the bill even though the dish was untouched. Would not recommend this place nor the poor customer service.

Honestly, one of my favorite restaurants in all of Maryland, maybe one of my favorite restaurants ever! The food is amazing, weather you get sushi or ramen you will not be disappointed! One of my favorite things is to order sushi from their 'past seasonal favorites' menu and always try something new. The rolls they have are SO CREATIVE! Last time I went, we tried the Russian Roulette roll and one piece of the sushi has a wasabi bomb so GOOD LUCK!
Atmosphere is cozy and warm, the staff is really friendly and they check up on you often!
They have a good selection of Japanese beer and wine. I would suggest 0% Asahi as an addition to your menu or If Sapporo makes a 0% that as well so that those who do not drink can enjoy the great combo of beer and chicken!

I came in and ordered a shrimp tempura roll, the spicy signature jin ramen, and two cha shu ramens. The roll tasted decent, although the sauce was too salty and didnt bring that sweetness that you would typically look for in eel sauce. The ramen, at first glance, did not look at ALL like the pictures on the menu, and the broth tasted almost like packaged instant soup. The noodles were a bit too soggy, but the toppings were what really turned my entire party off. Not many classic toppings you'd see on any decent bowl of ramen, and instead of some good quality cha shu that would be expected of a CHA SHU RAMEN, we got deformed brown lumps of what appeared to actually be some low-quality beef, again NOT AT ALL like the pictures. They do not offer delicious soft-boiled eggs that good ramen is known to have, instead only having overly salty hard-boiled soy sauce eggs. And it really caught me off guard that they had put raw onions as a topping, which my entire party quickly removed from the broth, along with the chunks of mystery meat. The poor server who was serving us seemed to have no idea what we were talking about when we asked about getting a side of black garlic oil, and instead someone who seemed to be the owner walked by and semi-rudely stated "we only put it on our chicken ramen" and the server looked confused, which goes to show how terrible the training system is. Overall, would not recommend to anyone who has ever tasted actual sushi or ramen. And definitely never coming back and telling everyone I know never to come back, especially after hearing about the horrible working conditions the employees have to endure, with them having no place to store their personal items, so they have to resort to storing them in the bathroom. Yikes. Go to Kusshi instead, literally right down the street.

If I could give this place zero stars, that's what I'd give them. We have never had such lousy service at a restaurant. My son ordered the beef ramen, but he ate only two bites of it because he found it was too oily. The people there refused to take it off of our bill and refused to offer anything else he'd prefer like sushi or maybe try giving him a soup that wasn't too oily. The manager said, "We already served it. I can't use it again." Apparently their team never learned that (1) one can mitigate it by offering something else that's not too oily or (2) that the customer is right. We will never go here again. I've come here in the past, but this is the first time we had difficulty getting the servers' attention (my son tried to get the server's attention multiple times, but she just kept passing us without making eye contact). I'm just blown away that a server or manager refused to correct a legitimate customer complaint.

THEY NEVER MISS!! BEST SUSHI IN MOCO. I can’t speak on the actual sushi and meat options but the vegetarian options ALL hit the spot. I always get the vegetarian bento- such a great value. My parents loved their meat dishes (teriyaki chicken, miso ramen). The space is very narrow, with an intimate and moody vibe. Make sure to reserve a table or be prepared to wait to be seated! Food takes awhile to be prepared as well but it’s sooo worth it.

I ordered on Uber Eats. I love sushi and have given many 5 ratings. After getting from this place I realize Ive been too generous. This place is so much better. I went to order from a nearby place and it was about $31 for assorted sushi and a roll. Then I looked at this place and it was about $21 for similar ... BUT, the roll from the local place was California roll while this place offered choice of roll, so I got tuna roll, so much better than California roll. So the price is great. Now to the quality: In short, much better than my local places. Oh, and with this place, I also got a bowl of miso soup, which was delicious. This is now my go-to sushi place!!!

I have been coming here since I moved to the DMV (7+ years), and I can say that whenever I am craving sushi, this is my go-to place. My husband and I were there on Sunday, and we loved it as usual. I did think the takoyaki presentation was way off from what I'm used to (black long plate and beautifully displayed), but it didn't really matter because the dish was excellent. From reading other reviews, I have learned there's a new sushi chef, so that might explain why the presentation for the sushi platter was also off and not to this place's standards.
I'm giving it 4 stars because we were seated next to the hot bar, and the amount of grease dripping from the upper wall above the flags was pretty bad. I've never seen the place this dirty, so it was a surprise.

I have been eating here for years. However this time was awful.
The service was awful. Inattentive and inconsistent.
The food was worse they broke the cardinal rule of all Asian cuisine. Have good rice. The rice that I had in a bowl was goopy and old. Rather than fresh and bright, it was almost like the rice was from last week and they forgot to wash the rice.
It totally undermined my previous opinion of the restaurant.

The food was not too bad. Though it was not as how it looked in the pictures. The broth was black..for the chicken ramen. They also gave you half of egg, seems like they really stingy with portions. Other from the look of the broth, and the half of egg, the food was good. The place is small though, so didn’t bother to dine it. The price is not too bad for the location. So they did good on that.

I loved this restaurant. I haven't had sushi this fresh in a long while. I like to think of myself as a sushi epicure, I loved the sushi and the Nagri. It was perfect. With the exception of the Nashville role, which I didn't like because the sauce overpowered the taste of the sushi. I would have given the restaurant five stars, but the only reason I gave it for stars was because the service was not the best. Our server was not rude or impolite – which is why I didn't give the restaurant three stars but rather four- but it wasn't the best experience. She asked us if we wanted the check while we were still eating. She removed some of the sauces from the table without asking us if we still wanted the sauces. She didn't offer any dessert and when we asked her about it, she told us about two varieties. She forgot to tell us about Mochi ice-cream. We only knew about it because we saw a picture that someone had posted on yelp. She didn't tell us we can mix different flavors (get two pieces from each flavor), again, we knew this from the yelp review. I don't usually judge a restaurant by the server, but I do judge it by the service. Another reason why I'm giving four stars and not three is that the owner gave us a bigger table when we asked for it (we were only two people) when we walked in. So the bottom line is excellent food, fresh sushi, nice restaurant owner but servers definitely need to make the guests feel welcome. This is not the final verdict. I'll be coming again for more.

The manager of this place is extremely unprofessional. I placed an order, he misheard me, I didn’t realize they have me the wrong item until I got home. I tried calling to get a refund, and he told me that he was the one who took my order and that I was wrong and hung up in the most rude fashion. What’s unfortunate is that the food was good the first couple times I visited. This experience however made me never want to return, as they never even attempted to reimburse me unless I went all the way back that same night. I feel awful because I know as a manager, he’s going to bring all his employees, and the restaurant all together, down with him if he continues to blame others for his mistakes even if you’re a customer. Think about it, if he’s willing to tell a customer they’re wrong, think about what it’s like when he messes up something between the people who work below him.

Outstanding spread of sushi was presented for us. A wide variety from classic flavors to ameri-fusion inventions. The staff frequently came by to refill and refresh our water throughout our visit.
Prices were fairly affordable as well for our large group.

Decent sushi combo (dinner set B) at a reasonable price. Pieces of fish are big enough, and the vinegared rice is tasty (not overly sweet and not too sticky). Personally, the sushi here is better than the sushi at Kusshi nearby.

Its a cool resturant but they have no idea how to make balanced food, I got the Crazy Tuna 911 and if you like a terribly spicy food this is the place to go, but after 3 tries I'm not coming anymore, i keep trying new things that seem fun by the description but are essentially the flaming hot cheeto equivalent to sushi, and I like spicy food but it should be tasty and thought out not just as spicy as possible.

A place that really went down in quality compared to before. Sushi was almost convenience store quality, with the rice so mushed together that often you couldn’t make out the pieces of rice. Incredibly amateur servers who seem to not understand English very well, and an astounding $3.50 for a small bowl of miso soup. What a shame that a once high-quality sushi restaurant turned into this.

We came in an hour before close, and ordered almost immediately because the kitchen was closing soon. Our food came out and we good. However, we asked for water as we were finishing our meal and the server said no, because the kitchen was closed. I had to ask her again and she finally agreed. I was embarrassed because I had a friend who was visiting from out of the country and it looked really bad to deny a paying customer water while the restaurant was not even closed yet. I hope this feedback is helpful. Thank you.

The second I walked into the restaurant at 8:30 PM the server was frowning at us. I asked what time they closed because I immediately felt bad, and she said 10. She didn't ask for our drinks, someone else got them for us. We asked for forks and it took her about 4 more stares for her to get them to us because she was too busy flirting with a coworker right in front of our table. I asked for the spicy ramen (my full mistake, I meant chicken not pork) and she was horrible to us. She continued frowning and sighing and we asked if it could just be dropped from the bill but they replaced it (not sure if they replaced the broth of just threw chicken in there). Then, the servers all gathered in front of the bar area and were pointing at us and clearly speaking about us. I just read another review about how someone mistakenly ordered something and was happily helped, and our experience was the complete opposite. Wasn't sure what we did to the server to make us feel so small but will never be coming back here. I've never had such a mean and rude experience. She was happy and giggly with everyone but us. Not sure what prejudice she had against me. I hope she seeks therapy for her anger issues

This has quicky become a favorite with my friends and I. Our absolute favorite has been the lobster lasagna, in fact, it's a little too good that it's ruined wanting any other sushi! It is a roll filled with avocado, cucumber and masago, and topped with a creamy grilled lobster and crayfish meat that makes your mouth water.
The fried gyoza was super crispy, hot and comes with 5 in total. It comes with ponzu sauce which fits it perfectly. We loved it.
As for the rolls. The golden dragon roll was tasty but didn't have avocado on some and some on the others. They also didn't put equal amounts of eel sauce on it so it was on some pieces but not others.
The Osaka cheeseburger roll was stated that it had spicy teriyaki on top, but what it actually had was spicy bulgogi inside of it. It was a huge portion and about 2 inches wide. The spicy bulgogi is wrapped in American cheese and then rice with seaweed paper and then to top it off it has another layer of tempura on the outside. I'm not sure if it's baked or fried, but it has to be one of those.
The crispy shrimp vs sweet crab roll had a nice shrimp and crab flavor but I think it was lacking flavor so we added some eel sauce or ponzu to it which elevated the flavors. The tempura shrimp is on the inside with sweet crab on top. The roll had a lot of extra rice though and could use something else to stuff in it. But for $15 I wouldn't get it again.
The portions are amazing! But I've found discrepancies after visiting there a few times. Recently my lunch experience has me a bit disappointed as most of the rolls were lacking the normal amount of avocado. The rolls either had half portions in the roll or just missing avocado from the top, with half of the roll having avocado on it.
As for the service, it can be a bit confusing at times as some of the servers can not understand, but in the end it all worked out. The service is also very slow and they rarely refill your drinks. The times I have been there, there are only two servers.
As for seating, there are booths that only fit 4 people. And a seating area in the front for a larger group if you are lucky enough to get that seating.
If you are driving you will have to park in a parking lot near by, I recommend the one by Dave & Busters. I don't know how handicap accessible it is as the walkway is pretty narrow, though it has other seating in the front if it's available.

Ramen was undercooked, noodles were hard and unseasoned. Will take Maruchan ramen any day. The only good thing was the Thai Tea & the little posters on the wall.... Will never be back, will never recommend.

C'est très bon, les employés sont agréables mais le restaurant est victime de son succès, il y a énormément de monde et du bruit. Je recommande toutefois.

The food is usually pretty good, but today I saw something that has me a bit disturbed. As I was waiting for my order, I saw one of the cooks grab my fried roll from an open container and was passing it back and forth between the sushi chefs to get it sliced. After the sushi chef sliced it, she grabbed the slices with her bare hands and put them in my plate. Our hands pick up dirt and germs 🦠 very quickly. No one should be handling food without gloves. This is how people get sick from contaminated food. I’m not sure I’ll be eating there again.

I've had take out and dine-in service here more time than I can remember - food is always delicious

Food was unappetizing, nauseating within the first bites. Got the rest to go, got sick at home, won’t be eating the leftovers. Tried to call for a refund, spoke to rude employee who questioned the experience. Will not be wasting my money here again, leaving this review so others don’t make the same mistake.

This is more of a 3.5. It use to be a 5/5 when Woo was running the place but he left to start his own business. This place is still great, but service has gone down a little bit.
However special thank you to Reed who is still there and always make sure things are running smoothly! =D
Update: Aug 2023. As always the food is great. Service has been much better since the last update I made to this review. Great job guys!

2023: Stopped in for a weeknight dinner and left stuffed! The fried avocado sushi and the chicken ramen were SO good. Service was great and everything was delicious as usual. I love the atmosphere here too. I can't wait for my next visit!
Original 2019 Review: We had such a great night at Sushi Jin! The atmosphere was wonderful, the sushi was delicious, and the food was wonderful! The staff was really pleasant and accommodating. I asked for tempura udon but with vegetables instead of shrimp and they swapped it out no problem. We had the grilled garlic edamame, Alaska rolls and the salmon 4000 rolls, then spicy ramen and udon! It was all delicious.

Placed an order online and I came to pick up my order and my coworker's order. My order was ready first so I sat down at a table for 2 out of the way to wait. I decided to take a bite of my sushi order when the man at the cashier said I know you're waiting on an order but you can't eat here. I got up and waited for the other orders outside until they were ready. How rude is it, I order from your place and tried to eat at least two bites (my sushi roll had 6). I would've been done eating before the other orders came out. Needless to say I will never come back here. Unprofessional and the sushi wasn't even all that for the price.

This is the first negative review I’ve ever left on Google. I typically wouldn’t, but I was really disappointed and felt that I should share. I used to come here often and hadn’t been back in a few years, but it has changed significantly, for the worse I’m sorry to say. The sushi was really horrible and gave me tummy issues. I tried to eat a few bites but the sushi was warm with strong fishy taste. Rice was dry, like it was left out for a long time. My husband took one bit of scallop and had to spit out immediately. We were seated in the back in a booth, which was nice because we had more space. However, there was a dehumidifier or fan going and was near the restroom, which created a constant smell of urine.
We did enjoy the ramen and beef dish, but the sushi really was not a good quality, to the point that my husband and I felt really sick. The beef dish was too salty for my taste. Overall, not worth it for the price we paid. You couldn’t pay me to go through that again.

Okay, I don't post reviews often. Only when I experience something exceptional; good or bad. In this case I have no idea what happened to Sushi Jin, but it used to be decent. This time the Ramen was honestly bad. The broth was basically salt water. The meat was the wrong cut, over cooked, and over marinated in Teriyaki, which is not traditional or good. The noodles were over cooked and stale. The egg was way over cooked. The sea weed was soggy and stale. The bamboo was over cooked. And they included raw white onions, which is also not normal. We also got sushi which was passable for a food court, but not a $70 meal for two. And the wasabi was neon green and tasteless like it came out of a tube. Bottom line this was a really disappointing meal for a place that used to be a least on our top 5 places for Ramen. I hope they see reviews like this a try to correct these issues. In Japan the people actually take a lot of pride and put a lot of effort in their food. It's a shame so many places don't do the same here.

Great place to grab a quick bite with colleagues, or on a first date. Overall, the food is great at an affordable price. Highly recommend the Kimchi ramen, or a bento box. Bento boxes are definitely the best deal in the kitchen.

We used to love this place- good atmosphere, nice staff, good food… the quality of the food has really gone down. I wanted to give them another shot, but was disappointed again.
Appetizers:
Clear mushroom soup: bland and lacking ginger.
Takoyaki: Not bad, salty.
Cha shu buns: the buns were wet and dense, not fluffy, the meat felt old and was too salty.
Entrees:
Ramen: ok, not great.
Salmon teriyaki: everything was dry, the rice and salmon. The driest salmon I’ve had.
Sushi: again, the rice is dry and flavor is not good.

Cha su bun is incredible. The shrimp and veggie tempura has a ton of veggies and is a meal in itself. The ramen is the bomb. Sushi is always good too. Servers constantly come by to check on you and clear tables. Reasonably priced. One of our favorite restaurants in the DMV.

LUCKY ME, I got the food from them coincidentally. Anyway I can say they might be a heaven of Sushi lover, great quality and delicious.

This is probably one of the worst experiences I’ve had in recent years dining. The staff gave my order to the wrong person, and then refused to acknowledge the mix up, and the fact I had nothing. My friend had her food for a good 15 minutes while I had nothing. Finally, the waiter came to say there was a mixup and they’d make a new one. New order was not what I ordered. My friend had places to be, and as this had been a waste of time, she paid for both of us. In the corner, I watched a worker plate to-go food with bare hands and box up pieces of salad that had fallen on the table. Wait staff were short and seemed to hate their job. I hated the food. I guess there was one thing we could agree on. This place sucks!

Worst sushi I’ve ever had in my life. Rice was terrible. Sauce on eel roll artificial. Tamago - which is literally just an egg - artificial and worst tasting thing I’ve ever had in my life. Some fish had hard pieces. Literally an F. Waste of $108.

Miso ramen had a weird stank like taste. Vegetable sushi roll was disappointing. No flavor, bland. No plans of going back. Portion size nice though.

There were cockroaches running across my table. Nothing in our meal was comped for the inconvenience or the safety/health risk. For $20-30 minimum for meals and gratuity, I’d expect so much better!

I got the cha chu pork ramen it tasted good but when they brought the food after 45 ish minutes the nori( seaweed) was floby and not crunchy. Over all very good. There was a weird toilet smell neer the back which was unpleasant but bearable.

Food was interesting - very much a fusion spot, so if you're looking for classic and tasty ramen, it's not for you. That said, the meat was great quality and cooked very well, and the broth had good flavor. Their huge list of sushi rolls was pretty strange, including bacon and lots of cream cheese options, which I've never liked. But very creative and all the ingredients tasted great. I think it was just too wild and fusion-y for my taste. Staff were super attentive and quick and the ambience was fantastic and very cool. I'll probably try it again but I won't be racing back.

What happened ? Used to be one of the good sushi places in Silver Spring but it was a complete disappointment with no flavor at all not for one or two but all the rolls we ordered this time. Not sure if it is all the new chefs they have brought onboard. I had ranked this at 4 before but have to say this time it is at a quality of a fast food sushi like in a mall. It is really that bad. We decided there and then we will never come back.

This is such a great place. The salmon and ikura sashimi are magnificent. I wanted to try ice cream tempura but they do not have it so I had the mochi ice cream. The mochi ice cream is great. Yamitori is a bit chewy. Overall is a great place. The price is great as well.

so I've passed this spot many times but finally decided to try it out for a Valentine's date night with my daughter. SO glad we did! it's right on Fenton St in downtown Silver Spring but very discreet and in the cut. I got the Vegetable Special Bento, she got the Veggie Ramen 🍜 and triple Sake, plus we shared sum fried tofu - all beautifully plated. 'twas everything! very reminiscent of SHŌTŌ, which is a more upscale Izakaya. the service wuz excellent and we were even gifted heart shaped mylar balloons! 💕🎈 will definitely be back
