Yoshi, oh Yoshi...
I really enjoy Yoshi for many reasons. First is the personal service. The folks there make you feel like family. They take special care to ensure you are totally satisfied. The food is simply marvelous, and the taste requires absolutely nothing! I do adore the atmosphere as they play lite music in the background. I can say that I highly recommend dining here if you haven't already. Great job Yoshi! Big wave 👋 to the owner and his family of employees!

I am so upset with this place. This used to be one of my favorite places to eat. I will never be back. It was not busy when we first arrived, we ordered three rolls of sushi and the Pad Thai. We waited 1 1/2 hrs for the sushi, I finally told the server I didn't want the sushi, because I ordered it to eat there. So he brings it out and tells me he will take it off my bill. I thought that was fair, Though when he swiped my card I didn't realize it until I came home that I was charged for the sushi. The sushi, that we brought home was not edible, the fish and the rice was over cooked. The place has gone down hill. Don't waste your money. It is not worth it.

Burnt vegetable fried rice, smelly pad thai noodles and breaking apart sushi rolls and sticky floors was our experience in this place. A Japanese restaurant and I didn't see a single Japanese employee there, which is not a problem l, but the food was well below average. The people who work there are very friendly and professional but the food disappointed us. It looked good to see but tasted awful. They have to improve the taste and quality of the food.

This is one of the best restaurants in Bangor. I have been going here for years and never had a bad dish. Its styling takes strong inspiration from Japan, with sections with raised bamboo flooring in which you sit closer to the table. They also have regular seating, but the other sections are very fun and unique. The food tastes closer to authentic Japanese rather than other restaurants which are typically more Americanized. Definitely worth checking out. Pictured, is two of the sushi rolls and one of the chicken curries with bubble teas.

The food was so delicious, and we sat on Tatami seats! My husband and I got the True Love For 2. The meal came with two complimentary miso soups and two salads. My husband’s favorite was Salmon and the Yellow Tail. I enjoyed the Salmon and Hamachi. We will definitely come back to this restaurant.

I love the food here. I’m sad that I had a bad experience with a staff member Lauren. It was hard to hear her on the phone and after she took my number she just hung up. Normally I would not mention that or let it bother me but what followed was really rude so I may as well share it all. I went in to pay. The restaurant was mostly empty and it was almost 1pm. After paying I asked the other staff member if I could eat there. She said yes and went to speak to Lauren. I could see that it was not ok and Lauren became visibly upset. Then the first girl came back and said my food was ready and did I just want to take it. I said sure and that I knew Lauren was upset. She said sorry and that it would disrupt the business/ flow if I took a table ( in the empty restaurant) . I would still have tipped the server. I just feel that it was rude. I don’t mind taking my food to go. It’s the angry reaction that upsets me.
But hey, the food is awesome!

Very disappointed! The katsu don was so dry we did not eat it. The pork was like rubber. The chicken satay was also very dry and rubbery. The pad Thai was also very dry. The only thing we ate was the shrimp spring rolls. That’s the only thing that was edible and fresh.

Ordered two dinners and dessert for take away, I had the teriyaki chicken and my friend had tempura vegetables. My chicken was dry and tough and everything was overcooked and over salted. I am extremely disappointed and I won’t be returning.

After a lovely greeting at the front door, I was benignly ignored for about 7 minutes after seating. A young woman came over who clearly is unhappy being here. Zero personality, and after saying "thank you" for everything that I was given, I was not given a "you're welcome".
Not. One. Single. Time.
I was majorly unimpressed by her gut hanging out. While I'm trying to eat? Yuck.
I wish I had the server with glasses. At least she was smiling and appropriately dressed
The kappamaki was fine. The sushi rice was not bad at all. The tatami seating is very cool. The green tea sucks, the ginger dressing is different but good, and the miso soup was good.
The katsudon was better than Ichiban, but still a bit off. The overall flavor profile was right but the breaded pork cutlet was very small, unsliced (tough to navigate without a knife) and completely soggy. The dish overall was very wet.

Way understaffed for a Saturday afternoon. Service was slow and brief. Nothing special about the food, I could get better sushi and noodles in any town. Atmosphere is simple. There's nothing really notable about this place besides it's mediocrity.

It's a hit or miss depending who's cooking. Order take out and they say 45 minutes end up being 3 hour wait.

Sorry Yoshi. We left after waiting a 1/2 hour and the waitress never came out to take anyone’s order. I understand the restaurant business is hard but the waitress could have came out. It was Tuesday and there were only 4 other tables including ours. Left and going to your competitor. Never going back to your establishment.

I ended up having to throw away most of the sushi, it’s a gross texture and not fresh. Some of the fish was not edible to be frank. Avoid at all costs. Rest of their food was skimping out on meat as well. Unfortunate, as the staff is nice.

My boyfriend and I stopped here because their menu had their gluten free options clearly labeled which can be a struggle when eating out. Our server was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and was able to recommend an appetizer (Tatsuta Age!) that was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend got sushi which he said was very good and I had the Pho that was everything I was hoping it would be! I will be adding this to my list of safe restaurants to return to in the future.

It was my first and last time coming here. My fiance likes it here. I am sure it's good. If you like this sort of food. But it is not my thing. It is very hard for me to find anything I like here. I had the crab rangoons and tempera shrimp. They were ok at best. Definitely get better elsewhere. Plus, it is way overpriced. The server was not very friendly at all. Definitely NOT recommended.

We arrived at 5:50, and didn't get a seat until 6, although it wasn't busy. We didn't get a server to our table until at least 6:15, and when we did get to order our food, the appetizer didn't come out at all and I had to speak with the hostess. She gave me a lot of attitude and walked away from me as I was speaking to her. Our food finally came, but one of the people in my party didn't get her food well until 20 minutes after us. Our server, Bradyn, was very sweet and was as helpful as possible, so that was pleasant. The food was okay, I'm just a little disappointed in the attitude of the hostess and the speed of service.

Service was good, and I usually don't write reviews, however, we chose to go to this restaurant based on the reviews we read online. I ordered a sushi entre, one of the nigiri pieces they brought out was essentially imitation crab meat, layed out on the rice. If the cost had been half of what I paid, this may not have been an issue, but for the cost I would expect at least there to be all real, fresh, fish on my plate. A few pieces of fish were also not very fresh tasting. To go with this, the rice was not well cooked, there were some tough and crunchy pieces. Overall, it was a mediocre meal. I don't recommend going to this establishment if you are looking for fresh, and good, sushi.

Restaurant normally stops taking orders at 7:45. Came in to place a to-go order at 7:40 and was refused service.
We asked why we couldn't get something to-go if we placed the order immediately, and we were told, "I don't think you understand what kind of a night it's been."
It was a hard, hungry night for us as well.
We've been here before and it was nice enough. Novelty seating and marginal sushi.
We will plan ahead and stop somewhere else next time

Tonight my boyfriend and I ordered from Yoshi, one of our favorite restaurants, to be delivered to us on doordash (due to me recently becoming injured to the point where I can barely do anything for 8 weeks, and he has to stay with me). unfortunately we received a message from our dasher letting us know the food had been picked up by someone else and stolen. we were unaware of anyone else getting the order, and the dasher even came to our location to show he didn’t have the food. we then called Yoshi in a panic and spoke to their manager who LITERALLY came to our rescue and remade our food even though it was 10 minutes to close and delivered it right to our door. we have always spoken highly of Yoshi because we love the food in general but this was just incredible for them to do and after a week of pure disaster this really made our night. thank you so much Yoshi! we will absolutely be coming back once I am healed.

Good atmosphere with well-spaced dining tables to ensure just enough privacy. Good enough food but I personally thought the bento box wasn't fulfilling. Not pleased that I wasn't warned about spicy mustard being in the spaces where my app and meat where and had a horrible experience with that. Slow service (10 minutes) to be seated with minimal customers present and 2 waitresses. One was slowly sweeping 3 tables before she seated us, and leaving all the serving work to the other waitress that was juggling a 10-person table already. Albeit frustrating, the serving waitress was kind though not super knowledgeable about random menu items.

I haven’t eaten at Yoshi in years so I tried again tonight and was severely disappointed. The sweet potato tempura in the sunset maki was hard and uncooked. I was in a party for two, one of the first to arrive, and watched as a party of 4 and 6 arrived after us, and were served and left before us. The only reason I paid full amount and tipped 20% was because it was clearly understaffed. I will not be returning.

Although the artistic Japanese presentation was somewhat lacking, the food tasted great. The staff was friendly yet appeared to be not attentive to customers and made the dining experience unpleasant due to their loud joking around the front counter and in the kitchen areas. The dinner itself was fine. I would be back if the atmosphere was more pleasant. For now it's the Oriental Jade restaurant for me!

The food is always amazing. I've had the teriyaki chicken bento box, pan fried gyoza, chicken fried rice, chicken pad thai (original has just a little kick but it's very good), unagidon (delicious eel dish on rice with pickled items, it's a large serving that you could certainly split with someone), and a few of the sushi rolls. I specifically go back to the Mexican maki roll, that one's my favorite. I've also had the Boba/bubble drink and those are all delicious, could be had as a dessert because they are sweet. The staff and chefs are always very kind as well and we are always happy to return.

We have been here for an hour and just the first course. Evidently they ran out of the soup that comes with entrees but never bothered to tell us. Our waitress is also working in the kitchen and the other waitress who is not has served her customers waters and soups before our waitress even though they sat down after us. The people behind us with our same waitress just said they’ve been waiting an hour for their food.

I used to love it here but had a bad experience today. Very very slow, we were in the restaurant for well over an hour and a half. My husband had his food almost gone before my food came out. Out of one of the items on the menu we always get. We also heard the cook yelling “I don’t care” at a waitress. I would pass next time and go for M Thai.

Use EXTREME CAUTION with this place!!! I told them MULTIPLE times that I'm literally DEATHLY allergic to something, and when I got my food they tried sneaking it into EVERY dish and piece of sushi I ordered. If I hadn't been paying attention I would have had to call 911 and go to the hospital with anaphylaxis. I'll never be going here again. So sad that they were willing to gamble with someone's life like that.

Food was alright, atmosphere was fine, waitress was very nice but my god it was slow. I work in food service and i understand being busy in the kitchen. However if you’re busy, tell your customer so they can make an informed decision to stay or go. Priorities were horrible as well, always prioritize your customers in house over doordash orders. Adjust your time on doordash and figure it out. Didn’t get anything comped, but got a tiny dish of free vanilla ice cream though! Don’t go here if you want prompt service or reasonable prices for the product being served.

The food is always really good here. I typically get sushi with an appetizer. The Boba Tea is OK. The tea part is great, but sometimes the Boba tastes a little hard/ old. The service... well... everyone is really nice.
But oh my damn the service is so slow. I've never had fast or reasonable service here when compared to other places I order sushi. Over the last 6 months I've been in 5-6 times at different times, different levels of occupancy, different days. It's just slow. Like really slow.
If I order an appetizer (any one), it's typically 15-25 minutes. Then the sushi is about 20-35 minutes later (ordered with the appetizer). If I don't order an appetizer, the sushi is typically out in 20-35 minutes.
Again, the food is great and everyone is very nice. But be prepared for slow service.

The lunch specials are extremely well-priced and the sushi is always really, really fresh. Their dragon rolls are to die for, and their tempura is always perfectly done. The service is usually amazingly fast, and while the decor may be a bit kitschy/tacky, the vibe is always calm and intimate (especially in the booths or at the back hibatchi tables)

Two hours to in and out for dinner and had to beg for every step of the way, what a waste of time, sushi was made horribly too, fell apart because someone couldn't roll them correctly and didn't add enough rice vinegar to the rice so it would stick together, also didn't use enough nori so there was a gap in the sushi rather than the nori rolled completely around the maki. Painful to have to spend 2 hours for dinner. Would never return food wasn't anything special for the price.
In reference to the reply I have had brown rice in sushi at many high end sushi restaurants in Boston, Montreal, New York City, Tokyo and they did the brown rice properly. The chef needs to study and execute better. I hope you execute and make the next guests happy because I like to see successful restaurants and happy customers. Good luck 🍀!

Submitted a fairly straight forward pickup order (1 soup, 5 specialty maki, 1 spring roll, and 1 ice cream) at 5:30 PM on this Friday night. Received a notification that the order was ready at exactly 6:30 (which was in line with the estimated prep time) as I pulled in to their parking lot. Went inside and was told that our order wasn’t actually ready, that “DoorDash just sends out the notification that your order is ready based on the estimated time, we don’t do anything to trigger the notification”, and that it would be a while longer. The person at the register desk offered to bring it out to my car when it was ready if I wanted to wait there. Went back to my car and confirmed with my partner that we didn’t order via DoorDash, but through Yoshi’s own website. At exactly 7:00 PM, after waiting in my car for 30 minutes, the person brought my order out, apologising under their breath for the wait. I let them know that we had ordered an hour and a half ago and that it was through their website, not DoorDah, to which they replied “oh yeah, I say DoorDash, but I mean it is a partner vendor, and I have talked to my boss and they’ve talked to the vendor, and there’s nothing that can be done [about when the notifications go out]”. I asked about the wait time and they said “we’re just really busy”. I asked if the people sitting at the tables inside are also waiting upwards of an hour and a half for their food and they smiled and said “we’re just really busy”.
I checked the bag before I left to make sure we received all of our items and found that they had crammed all 5 maki in one container, which is problematic given my partner and my toddler have allergies and dietary restrictions, meaning my rolls have ingredients (mainly sauces and tempura flakes) they shouldn’t eat. As far as the food itself, compared to other sushi restaurants like Ichiban, the maki and Tom Kha Gai weren’t anything special, and the individual Saba portions were actually smaller, despite being similar in price.
The entire experience was especially frustrating because we had planned to take our toddler on a walk along the river before they went to bed (ahead of a rainy weekend of mostly being inside) but because of the extremely long (unexpected) wait for the order, it was now getting dark and it was too late to do that once we finished eating without having an overtired toddler. Had we known the food would not be ready at 6:30 but rather at 7:00, we would have gone on the walk *before* picking up our food. I understand it was not the host’s fault that the order took so long—or apparently that the “your order is ready” notification is not connected in any way with your order actually being ready—but their almost flippant apology for the long wait with no offer of a discount (on this or a future order) is a very poor way to run a business.
Some would argue the restaurant has no idea what your plans are before or after you pickup your order and I would say that is all the more reason to be accurate with your estimated prep times and order ready notifications. In this day and age, using an online order system (on their own website, not a third party app), there is no reason to have customers waiting in their running cars (so they have A/C in the heat) for 30 minutes. Or having very limited seating inside for those waiting for their pickup orders.
If you check my account, you’ll find I have submitted very, very few reviews over the past 15 years I have had a google account and, even then, they have almost all been five star reviews for excellent experiences.
But this entire experience was bad from start to finish, and I think it warrants this review. This was the first—and perhaps only time—we will be ordering from Yoshi as they don’t seem to value their customers’ time, and don’t even have particularly great food to excuse their apathy.
If you can’t give accurate prep times, order ready notifications, or fulfil orders in a reasonable timeframe, don’t offer pickup. Or, at the very least, have your vendor indicate an accurate prep time on your website.

Highly recomend anyone in the Bangor area that wants 5 star sushi to give them a try.

I had zero knowledge of the issues or the commotions ongoing in that day. That shows lack of accessibility or communication. Since we deaf folks don’t share the luxurious hearing privileges that the hearies have. I had no knowledge of new ownership. Which adds to the overlapping issue that threw me off. Since I am accustomed to Japanese cuisine culture in New York City where I previously lived. They find white chefs to be unacceptable. It was a culture shock for me and now I see the diversity in Maine is completely different with its limitations. If we were informed with the issues ongoing then we would have reacted differently. The owner did not even reached out to discuss the audist experience/inaccessible issues with healthy dialogues and took the other route by enabling audism behavior.

I'm looking forward to what new energy is being breathed into this business! For me the best experience is pulling up to the sushi bar, getting to know the sushi chefs and staff (hostess/takeout, servers and kitchen), and having an Omakase experience that allows the team to flex and be creative. A fantastic crew that I'm openly devoted to.]
Inspired, excellent and always holds my interest. I've been following Ting around for close to 15 years and I'm always learning something new. This is the only place that I deliberately eat out at and it's an incredible value. Also to note I'm a sober person. I feel incredibly safe at Yoshi which is not always the case around here. I find most other places in the greater Bangor area are bars... that happen to have food. This is something Portland has over Bangor. They lead with their food. Yoshi has that.
The best.

It's my favorite sushi spot in Bangor. Their poke Bowls are also top-notch. They have no problem customizing my order every time, and it is ALWAYS correct. Love this place!

Everything ordered was great, the sushi was delicious. We especially liked the ginger salad dressing, so good we ordered some to take home!

Yoshi is the best sushi spot in the area. Fresh and creative. We order out often bit it is a nice spot to eat in as well. Don't be intimidated by the wait. It's always worth it.

Excellent food. Good service. Warm, welcoming atmosphere. Always have a good meal here. Recently had the sashimi deluxe. Well done!

Since the new ownership took over the quality of the food and the quality of the service seems to have gone downhill. The Kani Tempura Maki which we have been eating for 10+ years when they started at Ichiban didn’t have any tempura on it and the sauce has changed. Lots of menu items say it’s the same but now have different flavors and ingredients. We waited 27 minutes to receive water to drink and put in our order. The order was wrong (had extra hand rolls that were supposed to be in the Bento box and they took it off the final bill) and when it came the salad with watered down dressing, miso soup, rolls and the meal all came at once 1 hour 21 minutes after we sat down. Sadly the food was not worth the wait. The time before we dined here they completely forgot the soup and salad that came with our meal. We’re sad as this was our go to place and while you always waited a while for the food to come it was always good. Hopefully they turn things around.

The best sushi in brewer. Their prices are also very reasonable.

The food is very good but be careful when you get takeout. I live 25 minutes away and came for a pickup order that was two orders, I asked if everything was together and was assured everything was. I got home and was missing an entree and it was 8pm already. my husband called and was told it was okay to go back to pick it up. When I pulled up I watched an employee lock the door, then stood there for 5 minutes before I was handed the lukewarm curry and light apology. For spending over $85 I really would have appreciated some better service or been asked to handle it the next day if I was going to be locked out.

my fried rice with shrimp was $21 by itself, more expensive than any other place in the area that I've tried, but it was by far the worst one. the rice didnt look super fresh, and the shrimp was odd tasting (and not cleaned/processed much-the black intestine part was still on the backs of each shrimp). there was a ton of shrimp in it, almost more shrimp than rice. which usually would be appreciated, but because they were off, it was not a pleasant thing. I'll just stick with Kobe probably

Very disappointed with my food, service, everything else. We waited more than an hour for food to come out of the kitchen. Only one server for the whole restaurant.
The ramen I ordered was totally bland, cheap noodles and old egg. I've had better ramen noodles out of a box. That was not an $18 bowl of ramen noodles.
When I asked about the wait, the hostess said "oh it's just that everyone came at once". They should be prepared for dinner crowd. The food is not worth the price at all.

Best sushi in Maine and nearly as good as what I've had in Tokyo. Our most recent visit shows several new menu items. Our server was HeJin (Hèy-Jean), she was always smiling, and she was just fabulous! She also found a little ice cream for the birthday girl in our group.

Place seems great, but just went for the Boba Tea. Told me I had to order something if I wanted to order the tea. However, they said because they weren't overwhelmed at the time they let me order a couple Teas:) The Teas were good. Not the absolute best, but worth the purchase!

Best sushi we've had since moving to Maine. I'm so excited to find such a great spot in the Bangor area. Convenient location, easy to get to. Limited parking in front. Nice inside. Bright and clean. Pretty extensive menu and everything we ordered was so good. We started with green tea, salads with ginger dressing and soup. All good. As expected. Next we enjoyed some shumai, steamed and fried gyoza and spring rolls. Everything was delicious abd plated nicely. That was followed by sashimi, a shrimp tempura roll topped with salmon and egg rolls. No complaints at all. The fish was super fresh, everything was great. So flavorful and my husband who was stationed in Japan for a few years in the Navy was even impressed! Service was friendly and helpful. The waitress even went out of her way to answer our question about one of the accompaniments. Nice size portions. We came home with leftovers. I'm excited to go back and try some more things from the menu.

Has gone downhill fast since new ownership. Just spent 80$ on the worst sushi I've had since moving to Maine. Their dressing changed to a watered down, Italian like dressing. The Philadelphia rolls were tiny scraps of salmon they probably couldn't use as sashimi and the avocado was brown. Also was told 45 min and it took 1hr 15min (which I wouldn't mind if the quality was there). Very sad because this used to be my favorite sushi place but now green tea has surpassed them ten fold in both quality and accuracy.

Pretty decent sushi, but the waitress looked like a better version of Shakira and was super nice along with corny jokes that make you laugh!

This is not a bad review....there are just better options in the area for Japanese food.
The Maki rolls at Yoshi are pretty tasty and fresh. If you want a twist on an old fave but something different...go for a crab rangoon Maki roll. Delish.
That being said...skip the Pad Thai for $18. Very bland flavor and I only had 2 shrimp and 2 small pieces of chicken. Wanted to see how they rolled with this one, took a chance and lost.
Why I scored low on service....The people are nice enough but WAY off on the pick up times. They told me 35 to 45 minutes on the phone. I was actually a little late arriving at 60 minutes and it was not ready. I paid and no one said how much longer...35 more minutes sitting there and asking once for a time estimate. Small wait space was FULL of people for take out who all were obviously slightly annoyed that the times were very off. One guy fell asleep. Lol. Restaurant itself had only 3 tables being served and 3 others sitting there dirty the whole time I was there.
I don't mind wait times....just make it a bit closer (tell me over an hour and a half wait versus 45 minutes) so I don't leave work and have to sit and wait please?
Again..not horrible. But hit Green Tea or Ichiban for better food and faster service for the same price.

The best place in Maine to get sushi. I have been coming here for years. Anytime family or friends come for a visit this is always one of most go places. I come here often. My favorite thing to do is let them make whatever they want; trust me it’s worth the risk, I have never been disappointed.

Take out experience - ordered in person, order took 20 minutes longer than quoted time. Strike one. Sushi was sub-par. Sweet potato roll - sweet potato was under cooked. Eel avocado roll - something was crunchy, like they added tempura flakes. Hardly any eel sauce, and we had asked for extra. Got heartburn which is a rarity for us. Won't go back - will stick with Green Tea or Sinbashi. Sad because it used to be good!

I really like their food. I would consider it high-end quality food. My only small issue is they have a tv playing espn where the atmosphere would be better if they played nice music. There are some real gems...2 of my favorites are the flat bring ad (made fresh) and the spicy tuna avocado swlad... yum!

Been eating here for 11.5 years and the food always good. I would say the best japanese food near Bangor-Brewer area. The owner and his kids were very nice. They always recognized us. Too bad that the owner changed soon but he will kept everything the same including the chef in the back. I love the appetizers, sushi, sashimi, main course food from this restaurant. The price also makes sense. One thing that I would change is the new owner needs to wears something to cover his long beard. He is working directly with the sushi making and customers can directly see him. It is not professional at all and afraid to order the sushi/sashimi just in case the hair from his beard fall down.

This restaurant is an absolute favorite of mine in Brewer. The owner is almost always there making the sushi himself and greeting people with a pleasantness that makes you feel like you've come home for a dinner. The sushi is the best I've had anywhere else to date. The other menu items are just as enjoyable, I don't think I've found something I don't like yet. It can get busy at times, so I would recommend calling ahead. Even if you don't it's worth the wait. I tell everyone I know (and don't) if they want to try sushi to come here. Place is still amazing, never disappoints.

If I could give them 10 stars I would. This review is limited to their sushi boat. It's AMAZING. That's the only thing my family gets. Well, we get two boats, 'cause one is perfect for two, but not for four. The salad and dressing are a nice touch. Seriously good food here.
