I don't usually do reviews, but I have seen some mixed ones, so wanted to. Went for a Birthday lunch with my son. We only waited about 15 min, the staff was VERY FRIENDLY. We had hibachi, me-shrimp, scallops and steak with tempura veg and shrimp. Son had steak, chicken, and lobster and pork gayzo. The food was AMAZING and VERY healthy portions and FLAVORFUL! Our hibachi chef was entertaining
The timing was perfect for the meal. Prices were fair for food quality and amount. I can't wait to go again!

This was my first time here and it didn’t disappoint! It was my birthday and they made me feel very special. Our server Kayla was super sweet and did a great job! Our chef Julian did amazing and made the dinner so fun!
I got a California roll and steamed dumplings. Our hibachi meals came with the most amazing little salads as well as some awesome mushroom soup! For my meal I got the filet mignon and lobster hibachi and it was SO GOOD!
They had this adorable robot cat dessert cart that sang happy birthday while it rolled over to the table, I’ve never seen anything like it!
Overall 5 stars, hands down. Delicious food, and it may look pricey but the portions are huge!
Thank you again to Kayla and Julian for making this a wonderful experience for me and my family! We’ll definitely be back!

Umi is a fantastic spot for hibachi! I enjoyed the chicken and shrimp—both were cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. The hibachi experience was fun, and the food was absolutely delicious. Definitely a great place for a tasty and entertaining meal!

This was our first time visiting Umi Steakhouse. The staff was welcoming and, courteous. The hibachi grill experience was very unique, and was so much fun! Our chef did an incredible job keeping the group entertained. We opted for KC Strip, Calamari, shrimp, and chicken for protein and fried rice on the side. Although the fried rice was soaked in an excess amount of soy sauce, the protein was cooked to perfection. We were celebrating my cousin’s birthday, and the crew did a phenomenal job with bringing out a lava cake along with their house tradition of birthday celebrations. I loved the modern and minimalistic atmosphere.

Worst experience at a hibachi restaurant I have ever had. Arrived with my wife on time to our reservation. Did not get seated until 20 minutes after we arrived and that was only because I asked to speak to the manager about why we hadn’t been seated, but people who came in after us were already seated. After we were seated we proceeded to wait another 40 minutes for someone to bring us water. They were amazingly quick with the alcoholic beverages though. We were seated with a group of ladies celebrating a birthday and even their excitement for the birthday night was starting to simmer down as the service was close to non existent. After watching people being seated after us and chefs showing up to serve their food I decided to get up and go tell the manager about the poor service we were receiving and if I wasn’t receiving this meal for free I was walking out the door now. The manager told me that my meal and my wife’s meal were free. At 8:45 the chef finally shows up and does an excellent job of trying to lift the obvious deflated mood of the table, and the ladies explaining how they have been here since 6:30 and are ready to eat. One lady is so distraught and upset at the service and how long it’s taken to eat that she told the chef not to even worry about making food for her. After we are done eating the waitress comes over to tell the rest of the ladies that they are getting measly %15 discount on their food and the appetizers are free. After the ladies express their displeasure at the solution to the problem the manager proceeds to leave and come back and tell us that the owner told her to say that “it’s just business.” Yes the owner was at the restaurant when all this was happening and instead of handling the situation himself he decides to send two females to do his dirty work. What should you take from this? Go somewhere else if you want to enjoy a good hibachi experience and get your moneys worth.

Umi hosted us for our company Christmas party last Saturday and the experience was phenomenal! We had a large group of over 10 people but we were greeted with a smile and promptly seated in our area for pre-dinner drinks and appetizers. The drinks were great, as were the appetizers, but the meal was worth a round of applause! Both of our cooks did a great job and were very entertaining along with being being top notch at the grill! I want to give a special thanks to Bri and Alex who took excellent care of our group and made the evening that much more enjoyable for us! THANK YOU!

Had a great dinner. It was a busy evening so service was a little slow. There are so many dishes on the menu so we asked the server for recommendations and was very happy with her choices. The food was very tasty. The restaurant was clean with a nice quiet atmosphere.

Went here on a whim with my fiancée. Atmosphere was great. As the name implies, it is part Hibachi and part sushi restaurant. We went for the sushi (so can’t speak on the hibachi side). The food was better than expected. We got the Love Boat for 2 and two chefs rolls (the Donut Roll & the Vikings Roll). It was delicious! I highly recommend checking out Umi for the best sushi in Wichita!

After hearing good things about Umi we decided to go there for a birthday dinner. Well I have to say that is the worst food I have had in a while. Everything cooked on the hibachi: veggies, rice, steak, lobster, etc l tasted like burnt lighter fluid. The chef was pleasant but cooked really fast, and the server was slow and inattentive. If I could give no stars I would.

The place used to be so much better. The cook was really annoyed with having to be there, he didn't use any seasoning, everything was bland, and the rice had no veggies, just rice and eggs. The meat had a weird smell and was overcooked. The entire experience was terrible for the $90 we paid.

If you have misgivings about hibachi, dont have them about Umi, great food, fun neutral atmosphere, not highly overstimulating, Oh! And the shrimp catch, you can decline and the chef will move on politely

I recently shared an experience at Umi's with Jimmy and Hope. I was disappointed in the service and didn't see why I had to pay when some people got their food free and others didn't. I arrived at 6:15 and wasn't seated until after 7 because they said they were running behind. Other people were seated after us and their meal was immediately started. Don't know why it took so long for a chef to come to our table. Even had to go to the bar to get out own drinks! Left almost at 10pm. Don't know if I want to go back if that's the way I'm going to get treated!!!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Umi’s Hibachi Grill in Wichita, and let me tell you, the experience was unforgettable—but not in a good way. While I’ve enjoyed other hibachi grills in town, Umi’s managed to turn what should’ve been a fun dinner into an Olympic event of patience and frustration.
Our reservation for two was at 7:00 PM, but we weren’t seated until 7:20 PM—only after my husband had to nudge the front desk. We were placed with a larger party of seven women celebrating a birthday. Turns out, their reservation was for 6:30 PM, but they weren’t seated until 7:20 PM because they waited for their late-arriving friend. Why this was allowed to derail everyone else’s evening? I’ll never know.
Service was a slow-motion disaster. Our shy waitress took drink orders, but waters didn’t grace the table until 8:04 PM—an hour after sitting. A couple of cocktails appeared before that, but apparently water is an elusive luxury at Umi’s. Appetizers trickled out like they were being hand-prepped by toddlers, and soup and salad finally arrived at 8:11 PM. By then, my husband—a third-shift worker who had just woken up and was starving—had already taken it upon himself to speak with the manager. Thankfully, they comped our meals, but that was about the only thing they got right.
At 8:40 PM—yes, you read that correctly—the hibachi chef finally showed up. By then, one woman at our table, completely over the chaos, tried to cancel her meal. I encouraged her to stick it out because the manager needed to know exactly how badly this night was going. Later, the manager (looking very pressed) came over and whispered to me, asking if I told the table their meals were free. I told her no—but maybe they should be, considering the absolute train wreck her team had orchestrated. Her excuse? The group was late. Sorry, but their tardiness doesn’t explain why we were all ignored for hours while other tables (some who arrived long after us) were getting five-star service.
Now, credit where it’s due: the hibachi chef was a star. He tried to lighten the mood and reassure us, even going so far as to say the food was “taken care of.” The food finally hit our plates at 8:53 PM—nearly two hours after our reservation. Only then did refills and service magically improve, but by that time, the damage was done.
The cherry on top? The manager and owner’s behavior. Instead of addressing the table directly, they sent out a drum performance for the birthday girl to distract everyone. Cute, but we weren’t buying it. The manager eventually offered a measly 15% discount on the $589 bill for the group. And the owner? Oh, he was there. Sitting comfortably with his family, likely enjoying a meal that was served on time. Not only did he avoid us like the plague, but we actually saw him drive off in his Porsche. His excuse for not stepping in? “It’s a business.” Really? Because good businesses don’t let customers sit around for hours and then act like we’re asking for the moon when we request accountability.
We finally left at 9:20 PM, exhausted, irritated, and unimpressed. The hibachi chef was the only redeeming part of the night, but not even his skills could save this disaster.
If you’re looking for a hibachi experience in Wichita, skip Umi’s and check out Sakura Japanese Cuisine, Osaka Steak and Sushi, or Wasabi Hinkaku instead. Your time—and your money—deserve better.

I don't like leaving bad reviews and will most likely give them another shot. We had a fairly young waiter I'm assuming was new so we were very patient. My husband didn't get what he ordered, and we asked to just take it off the bill. No biggie, there was plenty of food. When we got the ticket, they took the description off but not the price. I ordered a drink that said 8 dollars on the menu but was charged 10. At this point I didn't care, I didn't want to mess with it anymore and just paid the higher price. The restrooms were not clean and smelled horribly of sewer. We were one of the first guests in that evening so it wasn't like a lot of people had been through there. I was very disappointed and had high hopes. But like everyone else I think they deserve a second chance, it may have just been an off night. But it will be a while for me before that happens.

Grandkids had the best time with hibachi they've ever experienced! Tina was so kind and helpful! She suggested we tried some drinks from the bar that I couldn't get enough of! 10/10 recommend! Will be back for Haleigh with our grandchildren!

Don't sleep on Umi! We came in Saturday with a party of 21 and they were very accommodating, and we had so much fun! The chef brought amazing energy to the table; probably the best hibachi chef we have ever had! I had brought in a birthday cake, that they brought to the table with candles AND sang to the Birthday boy (for no additional charge)! AND the birthday boy ate for free as it was his actual birthday. We originally planned to eat at Kobe, but to say we were disappointed with their lack of service, would be an understatement. We called a week+ in advance to acquire about a reservation. They basically told us they could not guarantee everyone would sit together, could not guarantee a seating time, but definitely wanted that deposit! Umi is our new go-to for Hibachi!

I have never left a restaurant of this type hungry until tonight. Shrimp had 0 seasoning. Same with the steak. Sushi had ice cold cream cheese in the middle of it so it was not a smooth bite. The noodles blew my mind in the most negative way possible…. Why is there cinnamon in the noodles? Tonight’s visit ensured a 1 and done for this establishment for me.

After waiting for almost an hour from our reservation time, the chef arrived and served up a sauce slathered dinner. Wish it was worth the long wait - but it definitely was NOT. Chicken was dry and hard and drenched in sauce, shrimp was overcooked and sauced to the hilt so you could not taste anything but the sauce. Does not come close to the taste or quality of other hibachi places in town - particularly Kobe on the west side. Hina, our server, was the one bright spot in the mess that was Umi. This was not a hibachi experience we will repeat. And what’s with the ugly neon lit amusement park claw machine in the middle of a restaurant. Strange and ugly!
Update: 2 members of our party had upset stomachs after eating at Umi.

Service was great, top notch, loved the robot and the drums. But the food was incredibly bland. Steak and scallops had no flavor and steak was way over cooked. The tempura vegetables had no flavor. I did like the calamari. Considering the price I don't see us returning

Hibachi food was very bland. They under seasoned everything. The filet was chewy. Sushi was good. Service was weird. It was just me, my husband, and 3 year old and they gave me the check for the entire table, I guess thinking I was the "mom" paying for a group of teenagers who were sat at the same table.

It was incredibly hot. I know it’s warm because of the tables but this was miserable. They had some sort of cooling machine using ice trying to cool the room with 4 hot tables, it didn’t work. The food could have used more seasoning but the mushroom soup was wonderful!! And lastly 3 in my party including myself ended up it stomach issues all night. Are the refrigerators working?

Let me say our food was great. Cooked well and tasted good. Our chef was a drag. We brought our 3 kids because they love the experience. The fire and catching the shrimp are their favorite things for this meal. Unfortunately our chef did none of these things. The tables around us were experiencing all of the things that make a hibachi restaurant fun, we were not. Our youngest even asked when we were going to have our fire and shrimp but the chef either did not hear or ignored him all together. We will not be back and will go to Kobes next time.

Went in tonight to give it another shot and was extremely disappointed once again. The host was rude once I was seated it took them forever to greet us and once he did his attitude was very off putting as he was too friendly with the male customers at our table but just brushed the women off even my husband found it weird. Cook was not entertaining at all and food was over cooked. The only saving grace was the manager Sam and the bartender Ina (I believe that’s her name). Sam was beyond fantastic got everything fixed to the best of his ability and the bartender was so funny and kind and made our drinks spot on. If I decide to come again I definitely will only sit at the bar. Not worth the time or money to eat here

The wait staff was excellent, the sushi was better than some. Our issue was with appetizers, we ordered softshell crab. I don’t believe the crab was prepared correctly. I know the lungs were left intact as well as the gills. This gives the crab a very strong taste, very off putting. This is one of our go to appetizers, don’t believe we will return! Try Bluefin!!

Even my kids hated it because it took so long. The appetizer food was mediocre. Not amazing but not bad. The AC duct kept dripping on my wife. It was annoying during the hour we waited on the drinks to come. By 7:30 we didn't see anyone so we left. Horrible experience.

Me and my boyfriend tried this place and the food was so good! As were the drinks. However, make your reservation for about an hour before you’re going to be very hungry. We did not get sat at a table until thirty minutes after our reservation time. Then, another 25-30 minutes waiting on a chef to become available. If you plan ahead enough, the wait is 100% worth it because the food is 10/10. Just go before you’re starving hungry. WELL before.

This was a very mediocre experience. For a restaurant takeover they absolutely failed. The manager was hovering the entire time and controlling when I gestured to talk to my server about tipping her separately. Normally these places take at least and hour. The food was done in 30 minutes with not much flavor, the sauces were runny, the miso soup was disgusting, and in the traditional way of serving sorbet to cleanse the palette they failed also by bringing out blue bunny vanilla and fudge ice cream still in the package! The only thing that was worth while was the alcohol and the fact that it was happy hour. I won't be back to eat here and do not recommend this place to anyone.

The chicken fried rice is not near as good as sumos… so theres that. The soup had a dishwater taste, the salad dressing was very creamy compared to other Japanese restaurants , almost a mayonnaise taste. The blue bunny ice cream at the end is just a bad move makes you look cheap with the wooden spoon. The waitress messed up the order then our chef got upset and was complaining about her making mistakes to the table. The waitress didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. It was SO hot I had sweat dripping off my brow 😅 no music, kinda stale. But the bartender was great!

Wednesday evening is the best time no wait at the hibachi table and only our group of 3 at the table. We had JuJu as our Chef and he's been doing it for years! We had sushi, lobster , calamari, swordfish and steak and the only complaint is we were way too full ! Good thing they have 2go boxes! Came in last week for dinner, last time I was here it was still Sumo so was I was surprised to find out I could actually order a hibachi meal without having to sit down for a show! That alone makes like UMI that much more. I was quickly greeted by my server Lee who was attentive and very informative even though she had at least four other tables that seemed to be freshly sat as well. Truly excellent service from all sides. Lee was phenomenal, sushi chefs sent out little balls of watermelon with a white sauce on top, and the manager stopped by and checked in on us multiple times. I believe his name was Sam? We will definitely be returning again in the near future!

Great, extensive menu BUT some things were "off". The 2 of us had to wait a very, very long time for other people to arrive- just to fill a table. 5 min is ok, 10 min is ok but 30+ min is not ok. Once the other people arrived, we waited for them to order drinks- then we waited for them to read the menu- then we waited for them to order sushi, then we waited for them to order dinner! Not okay. Only 2 tables were going- hardly anyone there!! They should have just cooked for us & not made us wait for some other family for a 45+ min total wait time before our "show"
Bummer!!! Good food & svc but not worth that wait, at all. Seemed disrespectful that we'd come there for an early dinner but wete made to wait soooo long for people that we don't even know. If you don't want people coming early- then open later but don't make customers wait that long for other people to come to the restaurant just to fill a table.

Came in from out of town from Oklahoma, was staying at the hotel close by, so I figure to stop by and check out, good experience, while waiting went and sat at the bar, was greeted gracefully, wait wasn’t long, bar tender was amazing great conversation to pass the time, Christina was her name and she came from Texas so conversation was grateful, food and experience was cultural and awesome to see, great place and people all in all, definitely recommend!!!!!

We arrived at the restaurant with a reservation and a 15 min wait…no big deal. The salad and soup were spot on. Our server was attentive and pleasant. The chef was very entertaining and the food was fantastic! We finished up with an ice cream and leftovers were taken home in a really nice bag. The experience all in all was a 10! Definitely better than Sumo, the previous Hibachi restaurant. We will be going back!!

My family took me here for a celebration and it was amazing! The manager Sammy took great care of us and the food was top tier. The service was very nice. This is the best steakhouse in Wichita. We even got to watch a fire show and see a robotic waiter! Definitely my family’s favorite spot!! We will be back.

This place is great for Hibachi if you can stand the noise.
I went back a second time with my hubby for sushi and unfortunately it was not great. I called to make sure they had tables available, was told they did but when we got there we were seated in the bar and there was a very loud group of people waiting on the rest of their group. When we ordered I told the bartender/waitress I am extremely allergic to avocado and mango. Our food was brought out on the same plate, his had avocado and the rice seemed old . Umi needs sushi tables available for small groups/couples.
This was a very disappointing dinner :(

I was unable to get a table at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse, so I chose another place called UMI. I ordered the seafood combination but didn't like the swordfish or scallops. The lobster was overcooked, and I requested steamed rice. I liked melted butter and cooked garlic in my rice, but the butter and garlic weren't cooked long enough. Too much soy sauce was used, which made my food salty. I have never had this kind of experience at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse before. Their scallops are always cooked deliciously, and my rice with garlic and butter is always delicious too. They don't use a lot of soy sauce.
The manager asked if I wanted my food recooked in the restaurant's kitchen, but I declined because I didn't trust it and didn't want to wait. The manager took the meal off my bill, and I appreciate it. Thank you.
I suggest you try UMI and judge for yourself because everyone's taste is different.

Went here with some friends tonight. Really nice place! Had the octopus donburi bowl with a seaweed salad. Fabulous. Fresh. Not too heavy on the sauce. I will say the ambience is rather loud and theatrical. It was hard to carry on a conversation with the hibachi chefs flinging food at people and juggling utensils. They gave us complimentary blue bunny icecream cups at the end... kind of weird. Like the type of cups with the wooden spoon you'd get as a kid at summer camp. However, the staff were courteous and our food was served promptly and tasted amazing. So, not a bad experience for sure.

Had a great dinner. It was a busy evening so service was a little slow. There are so many dishes on the menu so we asked the server for recommendations and was very happy with her choices. The food was very tasty. The restaurant was clean with a nice quiet atmosphere.

I should have went to Wasabi. I would have eaten like a king at Wasabi for this price.
If you want to spend a small fortune on food, that will not fill you up please come here and eat.
I am very extremely disappointed in the serving sizes.
EDIT: I am currently eating my children’s chicken nuggets from Costco because I was still hungry 10 minutes after eating My sushi.
If you order from here, this may be your fate as well.

We arrived at 7:00pm for a 7:00pm reservation. At 7:30 we still had not been seated. A group who had come in after us was seated way prior to us. Without us even asking, the hosted told us that the reason the group who came in after us was seated before us was because they were “being pushy” to be seated. I am not sure how that is fair. Why should they get rewarded for complaining when we were there first and our reservation was before theirs? We were finally seated around 7:45pm. The food was ok. My husband ordered the salmon and it was more like half a piece of salmon, there was no way it was full fillet. Also when giving out the rice my husband and i who were seated at the end of the table got a smaller portion than everyone else. One person in our group needed a second drink and waited a long time but our waitress was nowhere to be found. We finally had to ask a bus boy for her drink. I was never even offered a second drink by the waitress since she never came back to check on us. My husband ordered a drink that showed $16 on the drink menu, but when the bill came we were charged $25. When we asked the waitress about this, we were told that the “price on the menu was wrong.” I argued and said I expected to pay the advertised price. The manager came over to our table and explained that they were waiting for new menus to come in, but they did adjust the price. So if you dine here make sure you check your bill and make sure that it matches what the menu indicates. Overall we won’t be back and do not recommend this establishment.

My husband and I went here on our anniversary and we had an amazing time! Food was top notch, the steak was by far my favorite dish. It was cooked to perfection. We had sushi to start and it was so fresh and beautifully made. I'm so happy to have such a great hibachi and sushi place out east again! 10 outa 10 would recommend for date night or a family outing (my kids love it too!).

TL;DR: Hibachi is great. The bento lunch is subpar, better else where.
I got a chicken katsu bento & my Mom got a chicken teriyaki bento.
Was seated quickly but waited quite a bit.
Food was definitely less in quality and quantity than the price expectation but was worth trying.
Overall the place is fine but the chef needs to take some time to experiment and make the food good because, sadly, it's just below okay right now.
The good:
I will say that the salad had a nice dressing with a subtle onion spiceyness that I really liked!
I love that dumb cat bot that "delivers" the food.
Sushi was good!
The owner came by and greeted us showing us care.
The meh:
Staff was attentive.
The fried siu mai & gyoza were aight.
The ugly:
On both, the chicken was hard then chewy, unseasoned, and dry.
The sauces on/for the mains are de jule at best as they were weak with very little savoryness to it.
Service is slow, expect to wait 20 minutes before eating and spend atleast an hour total.
Quality to price is not great.
Other:
At a different time, my Mom got Angus Hibachi which was fantastic but still had the same wait.
There are other places that are faster and better if you're looking for bento.

First, to get it out of the way, the prices are too high. It's over $25 just for a normal steak hibachi. At least a combo doesn't add too much extra cost, but good grief. $30 just for the entree per person is a lot.
Our food was cooked well, steak was actually med rare, which isn't always common for hibachi. Seafood was a bit overdone, but not too bad.
However, there is a general lack of seasoning in everything. The meats had little beyond some sauce, and the rice. Man, don't get me started on the rice. Why do we have to pay extra just to have so little garlic added? Probably the most bland fried rice I've had at any hibachi ever.
Service was pretty good, chef was decent but didn't add much in the way of interactivity or jokes, which is kind of the whole point.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend Umi over the other hibachi places in town, unless something changes. For the love of God, add some garlic to the fried rice!

Food was tasty (though some things were a little over or under cooked on the flat top) and exactly like any hibachi food you've ever had. Service was ok- they looked like we grew another head when we arrived without a reservation at 5pm but sat us quickly. Atmosphere was loud and full of energy but very *get the people in and out quickly*. Drinks were tasty. I'd go back.

My friend and I enjoyed lunch. We each had a bento box which are a fantastic way to get loads of food. From the environment, service and food , everything was wonderful! They have a robot named Bella that brings out your food and takes the dirty dishes away too! If your looking for a very reasonable place for lunch, you definitely need to stop in here!

Everything was so good and so pretty I wish I snapped a few pics! We went for lunch and had a few rolls, and ordered the Uni (sea urchin). Hands down literally the only place in wichita to get this, and at a bargain price, and if you're adventurous you must try it!!! The itamae was fabulous, crafting perfection in our rolls and we were grateful to receive a special selection from him that I would order over and over again. We will absolutely return soon and go omakase as I am assured they will prepare the best sushi you can get in a landlocked state! We will also return to try the hibachi area as that menu, including swordfish, sounds awesome as well!

Our waitress was great. Our cook, however, did nothing to make the experience enjoyable. He literally did all the fun stuff, without warning and just cooked the food and that was it. He had us try to catch scrambled eggs and shrimp in our mouths but was horrible. We were having to catch it in the air if we had any luck of getting it.

We wanted to try dinner here after they took over the space that used to be sumo, which we loved for a long time. I’m going to share my thoughts about each aspect of the experience in hopes there will be some improvements since the restaurant hasn’t been open very long yet. I have always really loved the hibachi experience and the food. My family of 6 had a reservation for 4pm on a Wednesday. We were seated around 410 and the server got our drink order and brought out our soup and salad shortly after. The soup options were miso and mushroom. I didn’t like either. I prefer something like the plain chicken broth that sumo had. The salad was okay but I also prefer the thicker ginger dressing and the crispy wonton strips that sumo had on their salads. We were the second hibachi table seated and we waited a really long time after finishing our soup and salad for our chef to finally come out at about 5. We were getting really frustrated waiting and there were already a bunch of tables seated after us that were waiting as well. The chef did a good job cooking everything but the portions were HUGE. Like when you order the steak you get two steaks??? I feel like one steak is fine and then maybe the price could be a little lower. The menu is also a little overwhelming and confusing. When I ordered, I asked the server if the steak would have teriyaki and she said yes but I don’t feel like the steak had any teriyaki flavor and sumo used to cook them with the teriyaki sauce on them. The fried rice was also really good but could have used a bit more garlic in my opinion. The vegetables were also good and so was the ginger sauce. There was yum yum sauce too but no spicy mustard sauce, which is my absolute favorite at other hibachi places so I wish they would add that or replace the yum yum sauce with it. I know it’s a completely different restaurant, I’m only comparing it to sumo because we used to eat there all the time and I really liked sumo’s food even though the restaurant went downhill a few years before it closed. I’m sure they will make a few improvements now that they are open and I hope this helps make it more like what I love from a hibachi restaurant. This is all just my opinion, like I said, I really love hibachi :)

The last time I came to this location it was Sumos. We stopped going to Sumos good because of the cleanliness, and it felt like you were being rushed in and out.
I went to what is now Umi’s and was very impressed with how clean, bright and updated it was. Large selection of meals. We sat at the hibachi table and was given a menu that had everything you could possibly on it.
Our cook was very entertaining and love the robot delivered our dessert!!

Well this place took over the sumos building. They are by far no where near as good as sumos. The fried rice at sumos which was by far better than anyone's fried rice in wichita is now just gone. There fried rice is just not good compared to all other Japanese steak houses nothing special about it at all.... The steak was ok. The ginger sauce is like water wth.... not good.... highly recommend going anywhere else.

Cons: We made a reservation at 6pm, and still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated.
The chef didn’t interact much. They cooked the food well, and were talented, but no jokes of any kind.
The standard chicken hibachi had a sauce that was way too sweet. We did not care for it.
The ventilation had a problem with the fan or something and the entire restaurant had a very loud bass sound that was intense and drove us crazy. We thought about leaving as soon as we sat down, but this alone will probably cause us to never return unless we hear it’s fixed.
The sherbet was pre-packaged instead of served in a bowl. It came with a small wooden spoon. Kind of cheap-feeling.
Pros: The rest of the food was delicious, especially the rice, veggies, and ginger dressing.
The service, overall, was outstanding. Quick and detailed.
We had SO MUCH FOOD. The rice portion was at least twice the amount I’m used to getting at hibachi restaurants.
Despite no interaction with the chef, they still did the standard fire, volcano, and shrimp-slinging-into-the-mouth.
