Hokkaido Ramen House is a hidden gem! The ambiance is cozy, staff very friendly to give you suggestions even if you’re new to the cuisine. The broth is incredibly flavourful, the noodles have the perfect chew, and the toppings are fresh and generous. Service is quick and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. You have to be here to enjoy the food. 10/10 highly recommended.

Got the spicy beef ramen, gyoza, and the pork buns. Everything was delicious, especially the spicy beef ramen. I will 100% be returning. The only negative would be that the ramen to broth ratio was pretty high. I would prefer to have half as many noodles and twice as much broth. I don’t really count it as a negative just more of a personal preference. It’s personally my favorite ramen place in town.

This Japanese ramen restaurant has it figured out. The chew on the noodles was excellent and the broth was extremely flavorful. I had the Tonkatsu ramen and it was very porky, almost like slurping a pork chop. I tried the broth from the Miso and Tantanmen as well. What I really noticed was how distinct each broth was. At many places it's the same ramen with different topping, but this tasted like they worked on a better defined broth.

Excellent time at Hokkaido. As fellow lovers of all things anime and Japanese, we really enjoyed not only the menu but the aesthetic of this restaurant. Everything we thought was priced very reasonably and was super fresh, especially the gyoza. Our friend got the eel rice bowl and said it was delicious and tasted super fresh. The ramen broth was so flavorful and the noodles absorbed all the flavor. Very good marinated soft boiled eggs as well.
So much food too! The milk tea was pretty good. Definitely could have had more flavor or soaked the tapioca pearls in something because they didn’t have any flavor. The soup dumplings we ordered were advertised as 8 pieces on the menu but we got 6. A small thing, but if you are planning to split this with more people it can be misleading. The Coralville roll was massive. We left super full and super satisfied.
Service is a little slow. This did not bother us as it was apparent they took their time making our food come out hot, fresh, and played nicely. But something to consider if you are trying to be in and out quickly. Our party of four spent about an hour there.

The food was delicious, but the service was not. The waitress didn't ask what we would like to drink. When she finally came to us she just gave us all water and asked to take our orders. When it was time to pay she did not offer to give us any takeout boxes.
The bathroom was dirty and had no paper towels.

The ramen had a lot of flavor and we didn't have to wait long for the food. I'd recommend eating here if you're in the area and not too picky for excellent service.

We found the food excellent, it is more asian-fusion than just Ramen. Service was excellent with plenty of waitstaff. It has a very "cool" atmosphere with a stunning non-alcoholic bar. For drinks I would suggest sticking with normal pop; their Japanese(?) "Ramune" drinks are awful, just a super sweet water with strange chemical flavoring. I was a bit disappointed they didn't remove it from my tab as I didn't drink more than a sip and told them it was awful. So, skip their odd drinks and you will find this restaurant awesome.

Me and my boyfriend LOVED this restaurant. We have gotten takeout from this restaurant several times before and have been happy with our results. Once my boyfriend found a small piece of plastic in his food but he just shrugged it off since he loved this place so much. Yesterday my boyfriend got their ramen through uber eats and his stomach hurt really bad after. Mind you he has gotten his ramen through uber eats before and has never had a problem. i’m not sure if this was a bad batch or what but my boyfriend kept throwing up every few hours. It’s so upsetting because we generally do love this place. We’re definitely done eating here.

I was so excited to eat here tonight. We had some friends come to town to go to the Heartlanders game with us. They wanted to eat here because I said the food was awesome. The only caveat I gave is that we've been burned a couple of times because online orders took priority over our order. We still gave it a shot hoping things had changed from last hockey season. We get there. There's only a couple tables eating, so we are pretty confident we'll be able to eat in the hour we have before the game. The waitress was nice and took our orders and everyone was looking forward to a great meal. About 10 minutes later, the waitress comes back and tells us that a $400 online order came in and our food will be delayed 20 minutes. Uggghhh, not again!!!! This is seriously the fourth time this has happened to us! We couldn't trust their timing because we knew, from past experiences, that more online orders would come in and delay us even more.
I'm so disappointed! You can't treat your dine-in customers like that. How you can't prioritize a table of 5 over an online order blows my mind. You also can't be right across from Xtream Arena and not take into account people want to eat there before events. You seriously just need to be a takeout place if that's your priority. We definitely won't consider this as an option before any event we go to at Xtream ever again.

The food is great, but the fact that DOOR DASH has priority over customers inside the restaurant is unacceptable. Why even have seating to dine in if you are not going to take care of the in house customers. This is not the first time this has happened so its not coming from just one bad experience. This has happened more then a handfew of times. The only difference this time we were informed about door dash taking priority after ordering. The other times we have just been left sitting and waiting with no communication from the staff.

Service is completely secondary at Hokkaido. Here's a hint: they will always prioritize food delivery service orders before dine in customers. So much so that dine in orders are all but forgotten. When asking about said orders servers claim to check on them but never reappear at the table.
I keep wanting to give them a chance because the food is pretty good but this is a pattern of behavior for Hokkaido Ramen House. Three strikes and I'm out. Avoid dining in house there at all costs unless you've got nothing but time to waste.

Arrived at 4:00 place was almost empty were seated right away took 15 minutes to get water came back 10 later to take our orders ramen came out quickly then another 10 minutes my sons food showed up they kept telling my wife that a big order came in at the same time so her food isn’t ready 20 minutes later still no food we paid for what came and left

I came here for lunch on a Monday (no reservation) and got seated right away. Our server was so nice and attentive without being too much, wish I got her name to shout her out here. Food was pretty good, I personally think there was a little too much eel sauce in my eel rice bowl but again, that’s a personal thing. The food came out quickly and again our server was awesome. I will definitely come back again and recommend if you want some ramen! Also got the brown sugar and taro milk teas with boba, they were delicious! Boba was made perfectly and came in big to-go cups.

This is my favorite ramen place in the Iowa City and Coralville area. It has the most ramen and menu options of any ramen place I've been to. Portions are generous and the service is always fast and polite. Standouts for me are definitely the pork buns (I'm addicted to these) and the shoyu, miso, or spicy beef are all great broths. My boyfriend is fond of the sushi. If you like a little spice go for spice level medium, the next level up is too much for even my spice addicted boyfriend. The food always comes out hot, fast, and delicious. As for drinks I would recommend any of the bobas and milk teas. Perfect for a date spot, you'll stay there for a while because you just can't stop ordering.

We are very surprised to find this place in the middle of our trip. The food is very authentic and delicious, you can taste the good quality ingredients. The service is excellent, I don’t usually tip 30% + at restaurants, but I think the waiter totally deserves it. The temperature of the food and were appropriate, the speed was fast. We even had them to prepare a couple of noodle soup dishes to go, which they separated the noodle and the soup to avoid the noodles getting soggy. Love the animation arts on the wall too! We’ll definitely try to stop by anytime we passing through Iowa. Highly recommend! Give it a try and I promise you won’t regret it!

Stopped by after dress shopping, good thing! Portions were very generous and packed full of flavor. We ordered takoyaki as an appetizer. Tonkotsu ramen and tantanmen ramen, we have had ramen several different places and this was by far my favorite place. The food came out hot and fast. Every bite had flavor. Will definitely come back!

Cost is acceptable for the quality and deliciousness. Not super pricey but def not cheap. High quality delicious 🤤😋 different spice levels. Medium is perfect for all heat no regret. We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon around 1 pm. We ordered the octopus balls, pork buns, pork belly ramen and the hot beef ramen. I also got a strawberry milk tea. The octopus balls were good however was thrown off a bit by the bonita flakes which is kinda like goldfish food. The balls themselves were good and came out hot and fresh. The buns were excellent with the buns being soft and fresh either the veggies inside were crisp. The milk tea was pretty standard but good. The ramen was outstanding with both the beef and pork being so super flavorful. You get to choose your spice level. I would highly recommend going here if you are looking for excellent ramen, good service and a nice atmosphere

Their hours are based on if they are busy so when you go there the doors may be locked even though they are “open” another 30+ minutes. They do not answer the phone either which would have been helpful to explain they will be closing due to no one wanting to eat there. Horrible management which is unfortunate because they have great food. I’d be surprised if it lasts another couple months if they keep up how they are functioning.

The ramen was incredible. The scallops were a little soggy and the chop sticks are slippery but everything else was amazing. I’m definitely coming back and telling my friends to come here. It was one of, if not the, spiciest ramens I have ever had. They don’t mess around with spice and it still tastes amazing. Definitely worth the visit.

Amazing Ramen, and for a great price. I got the Soft Shell Crab Roll and the Tonkotsu Ramen. With a drink, the price came to $28.57. The service was quick and easy-going. When I arrived, there were about seven tables already taken. I sat at the sushi bar area. The waiter took my order, and it arrived fairly quickly. Halfway through my meal, I noticed that the place filled up with 11+ groups of people. Even with this, my waiter would ask me how I was doing and if I needed anything. He even went as far as looking at me from across the restaurant and signing if I needed him. The place looked very clean, and the staff looked and acted professional. I would recommend stopping in if you like ramen and sushi.

This is an absolute gem. The good here is absolutely delicious and the spicy beef Ramen is some of the best Ramen I've had over the years as I've traveled. It was quite frankly a surprise. The Tonkotsu Ramen was good but not as flavorful as the beef Ramen. The Coralville roll is delicious and so is the pork bun. I did wish the spice level was more serious as I asked for the highest and it was not as spicy for me but I do have a higher tolerance.
The Hokkaido fried rice was decent to me but 2 of my friends absolutely loved it and raved about it.
Random, but I really love the quality of their to go bags and their overall to go order branding. I still prefer dining in however.
Lastly, the pricing is great.

I bought my daughter out her to compete and after training day she wanted sushi.
This place was conveniently close to the arena. We opted it, and it had good amount of stars so we decided to try it. Glad we did. It was delicious. It tasted fresh and tasty. Definitely will be back before we leave.
She had the black dragon and I had the California roll with a side of spicy mayo .
The California roll was better here in Iowa than in California. Oh, she also had pork buns. She says they were very tasty.

I found this ramen restaurant near a doctor's appointment. Lunch hour was almost started. I got spicy beef noodles. It was delivered quickly, packaged beautifully and tasted great. The portion was generous and could have satisfied two people.

Worst customer service ever, my friend and I received the worst service from the blonde girl there, first time had the experience to got blamed by server even she made mistakes. And come on, if you want to make money by being a waitress, at least you need to know how to take the right order, check the table and refill the water.

Great ramen for ramen in Iowa. I have had the tonkotsu, which is pretty darn good and the max spicy is very tolerable but not like super spicy, if you like very spicy ramen. I have also had the tantanmen and was disappointed at how weak the sesame flavor was in it, and if you added any spice you just don't taste it at all. I would stay on the tonkotsu and not wander. The biggest disappointment is service, even by myself the ramen takes forever to come out, and in a group it took even longer. Ramen is supposed to be fast when its authentic, and its just not that fast here. Still, for ramen in this market its pretty good, I am a regular customer and will continue to eat here to get my fix as I reminisce on visiting japan. Wish they had like an onigiri plate and/or a gyudon or butadon dish made the authentic way. Those are my other cravings from japan, and the japanese egg sando haha.

Traveling through and happened upon this place. Wow glad we did! Not only was the Ramen the best I've had, the fried rice, Bang Bang Shrimp, and Sake was great as well. Our wonderful server, Amy, was a delight! She was fast, friendly, and fun :) Would definitely return!!

just got back from dinner at this ramen house. Very disturbing atmosphere. An employee (probably owner) went around and kept pounding on the tables and dividers, loudly yelling "close" and "get out". It was around 7:30 PM, this ramen house was not supposed to be closed until 9:00 PM. There were a few employees followed this guy, and kept saying "sorry". The server told us that the police was called, but I doubted that they did. Appeared that they might have internal arguments, we did not want to get stuck in the middle of "gang war", so we rushed to pay and get out of the door. Very scary, rude, unprofessional. Never come back again. This guy kicked all customers whether just came in or in the middle of dining like us, in the restaurant out. By the way, when we first came in, we wanted to order sushi for appetite, but was told that no "sushi chef". The chef cut his hand so he went home early. My guess was that they might have and internal arguments, so the sushi chef left early, Hopefully, this franchise would be shut down forever by their corporate.

We tried a new restaurant today, they waitress were amazing, we were the only table there when they had just opened, took an hour to get food, as my fiancé was earing his Roman he has a big piece of plastic in is food....not cool, we payed our bill and tipped because we knw it wasn't the waitresses fault but we will never return!

It's nice to find a good ramen place in Iowa though there are a few in downtown Iowa City it's good to have one out in Coralville. First time to this gem of a ramen house! My family and I were pleasantly surprised how good everything was! 2 of us ordered ramen bowls (Tonkotsu and Tamtanmen) and one fried rice (with Kobe beef). We also shared fried calamari and a Crazy Boy fried sushi.

We raved over each and every dish! After having been burned ordering a ramen bowl at a popular, local Marion restaurant (in which the broth was pure salt 😝), this broth was thoughtfully seasoned and delicious! The pork belly was super tender and the soft egg a delight! The calamari was tender and coating super crunchy without beIng greasy. The Crazy Boy sushi tasted as good as it looked!

Our server was attentive and did a great job even though she’d only been there 2 weeks!

Portions are generous and prices are reasonable! We look forward to coming back and experiencing some of their other dishes!

For a restaurant that’s only been open for about two months, this place was phenomenal.

For an appetizer, we ordered the Fried Calamari Rings and they were amazing. A perfect golden brown, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside with a savory coating. It also wasn’t greasy like other versions, a nice bonus. Of all the fried calamari I’ve ever tasted, this was the best.

The Crazy Boy sushi was much larger than I expected but had great flavors and a pleasing crunch from being lightly deep fried. It definitely wasn’t easy to pick up with chopsticks given how hearty the pieces were.

The entrees we ordered included Tonkatsu Ramen, Tantamen Ramen, and Kobe Beef Fried Rice. All of it was fantastic.

My Tantamen Ramen was toned down from its original spice levels to something more manageable. The broth had just the right amount of spice for flavor and kick. The broth also had the right amount of salt; thankfully not over salted like some places.

The grilled chicken was tender and the vegetables were fresh. The marinated soft boiled egg was tender and had a nice jammy yolk with a sweet flavor.

Overall, the portions were impressive for reasonable prices. My only complaint is that this place is so far from my area.

The atmosphere was very pleasant. I especially liked the music playing in the background.

I’d also like to thank our waitress Sophia for excellent service.

First chance I get, I’ll definitely revisit Hokkaido Ramen House. It would be no exaggeration to say this was the best ramen I’ve ever had. I hope this restaurant continues to maintain the level of quality I experienced today.

I rarely write reviews but this is my #1 Ramen 🍜 noodles &sushi place now and I’ve been twice so far. Thanks Manager Anderson and your crew for a wonderful dinner . Food is amazing, elegant presentations of all courses ( Hawaii Poke Bowl salad shown ) . Expansive menu, you’ll find something you like 👍. Highly recommended.

The food has been consistently delicious every time I have been there. I've tried several of the ramen there now and while they are all different, they are all very flavorful. The sushi was fresh and tasty, the appetizers were hot and plentiful too!

I visited this place twice and twice the waitress made mistakes.. I don't eat spicy food and I always order without "spicy mayonnaise" When ordering, I always emphasize this and make sure the waiter heard my request, but every time my order comes with spicy mayonnaise They apologize, bring another order, but it increases the waiting time and is very tiring, not sure if I will recommend this place to friends

Overall great experience. The tables were a little closer than I would’ve liked but it didn’t ruin the experience as I just tried not to think about it / was careful not to bump the girl I was sat right next to. The waitress was great. The food was great. Ramen isn’t my favorite but they made it well and the prices were very fair.

The food was great but we were rather disappointed in the tea. They brought out a pitcher of hot water and tea bags I have always received a kettle with leaves steeping in it at other Asian restaurants

We were in Coralville for two days and ended up eating here both days because it was so good! During those visits, we tried their ramen, udon, milk tea, and sushi. All of it was absolutely delicious. The aesthetic of the restaurant was really cool, and the service was great. I would absolutely suggest checking it out if you're ever in the area! We didn't try any of their appetizers, but we hope to the next time we visit.

My friend and I are always on the lookout for new places to try in the area. This was a fantastic find and we will absolutely be back! Food was great; atmosphere was amazing and staff was kind and knowledgeable. Shout out to Amy - best server ever! We enjoyed two apps and two ramen options - all mouthwatering and delicious. Enjoyed the Shakira music mix and absolutely will be back. These hips don’t lie / this place is legit.

Located in an upscale part of town, near campus and a block from my stay at the Hilton. So good I refused to drink water after my meal as is my custom. I prefer the flow of Ramen broth. Recommend you experiment with a drizzle of chili oil over the last few ladles of broth. Shoyu heaven. Bam bam shrimp the servers recommendation did not disappoint.

Food was excellent, but something was off with their service. We got our food before the appetizer we ordered. We also had to ask for the Boba straws. Our spicy and mild orders were also messed up. Overall food is good.

Our group got three different Ramen dishes and everyone was happy with what they ordered. The broth was great and the noodles tasted fresh. Service was good and they have a nice beer selection. The really heavy glass goblets were an interesting choice for glassware and they weren't easy for smaller people to use though I personally liked them.

Spacious place with a chill vibe. The server was very nice and went out of his way to make sure his answers to our questions regarding ingredients of the dishes were accurate. If he wasn’t sure of something, he would consult his manager and the staff cooking and get back to us. Everything our group tried tasted delicious. The appetizers we ordered were the bang bang shrimp, sesame balls, Takoyaki octopus, and the spring veggie rolls. My favorite appetizer was the sesame balls, they are a little sweet tasting but not overly sweet. The Takoyaki octopus was surprisingly tasty and it was a first try eating octopus for me. For the entree, the shrimp fried rice tasted delicious. It was a large portion with a good amount of shrimp. It was mildly spicy but that made it taste so good. Would come here again. It did take a while for the entrees to be ready, but the food was served hot and it was tasty so we weren’t too bothered by the wait. Would come here again.

Was craving some ramen so tried this place out. The first few sips of soup tasted like liquid gold, creamy, meaty, spicy, flavorful broth. The noodle were firm and springy and the toppings were on point. Towards the end though the soup started tasting overly sweet, not sure why but please make the soup less sweet. Staff is prompt and fun. Had the shoyu ramen, roommate had the tonkatsu and they knocked it out of the park! Was nice having veggies too, the bok choy and corn were a nice addition! The chashu was phenomenal and I look forward to coming back and trying their other dishes!

Spicy beef ramen with extra noodles was excellent. The broth was perfect with great flavor and just enough spice to wake me up but not hurt me. Sushi was OK. Eel avocado roll was proper but not anything spectacular. Coralville roll was deep fried, heavy, and maybe a bit clumsy, but I enjoyed it. Hokkaido milk tea was very tasty. Space was nice. I'll be back for sure. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Great dining expereince and even better food. Everything was flavorful and texturally amazing! It has been very difficult finding enjoyable Asian cuisine in the Corridor area, and we finally stumbled upon Hokkaido Ramen house. Flavor was top notch. Appetizers were delicious too. Pricing was very affordable. We will definitely be visiting again!

Incredible Ramen! One of the top if not the best Ramen spots in the Iowa City area.

Service was on the spot & food arrived within 10 minutes. Hot & fresh.

We got the Tokatsu Ramen with Extra Chashuu (The Chashuu was so savory!) Along with the Chicken Katsu, big heaping portions of meat & not overly breaded.

The atmosphere is definitely great for food & drinks with friends. Very underground Japanese tavern esque.

Will definitely be coming back!

This is a win for Iowa. Been to Japan several times and while I wouldn't consider this traditional by any means...the broth tastes FANTASTIC! My wife and I got the Tonkotsu and Miso ramen as well as the Kobe buns. Ramen itself has a nice bite to it but the Pork chashu unfortunately is def not the melt in your mouth pork chashu that you would typically get (still tasty though). Definitely interested in coming back and trying the other broths and misc items on the menu.

My friend and I stumbled onto this place less than a week after it opened. She was familiar with ramen houses; all I've ever had was American Chinese food. I had fried rice at Hokkaido. It was SOOOO flavorful. I'm used to dousing my American Chinese food heavily with soy sauce; this freshly-made fried rice had so many wonderful nuanced flavors that I didn't dare cover it with such a bludgeon! My friend had a ramen bowl with lots of various sea foods and she said it was also delicious. She was so impressed she got some sushi to go, as well. We will definitely be returning.

IMO this is the best ramen in the area for a great price.

They offer traditional tonkatsu, shoyu, and miso broths plus some more creative option (including a veggie one). In addition to their excellent broths, the topping are well done too. The chashu is delicious and the ajitsuke (egg) is correctly soft boiled and marinated.

I should also note the price are ridiculously reasonable. $12-13 for a bowl of ramen is an great deal, especially compared to shops in Chicago that will charge $16+ for a bowl of similar quality.

I was really excited to see a new ramen house opening in the Iowa city/Coralville area and this place did not disappoint. A good variety on the menu and definitely the most ramen bowl options I’ve seen of all the ramen shops. The service was quick and attentive - everyone was kind and checked in to see if we were enjoying our meal. I loved the tonkotsu ramen and the creamy broth - you can always tell a good bowl of ramen from the broth. Noodles were chewy and bouncy. Toppings were fantastic. Loved the pork buns and they were a good size. Sushi roll was also delicious. The ambience and aesthetic were really on point. Excited to try more of everything!

Tried the Tonkotsu and Miso ramen - noodles were a bit hard, flavor on the Tonkotsu was amazing, did not like Miso that much.
Thought the quantity was a lil low. Bowl was only filled a lil over half way, not too filling. Appetizers pretty basic.
Price is okay if you just get the base ramen but if you start adding add-ons, then you’re looking at about $20 for a bowl of ramen.
Interior design is amazing and service was good.
