It was a fun experience and the food was good and good portions. We had a Groupon for the hibachi. Even with the Groupon it was expensive. There is a 18% charge for hibachi and we tipped our server and the hibachi chef. Nice for special occasions.

Fast food college food. I ordered the teriyaki chicken. It was served as some strips of dry chicken smothered with some ugly, super sweet, grocery store style sweet sauce with some white rice. I couldn't eat it. When I told the manager it was inedible, she brought some "hibachi chicken", which was exactly the same but cut into smaller cubes. Unbelievably, she offered a $20 gift certificate for my next meal. Totally tone deaf. She told me that this is the taste that college students like. 🤦🤦 Zero cooking technique. Absolutely the worst Japanese food I've ever tasted. Worse than what you find at fast food malls.

Response: The manager knows that I did not eat either the dish I ordered nor the "replacement dish' which was exactly the same with the addition of some fried rice. She knows this, but I guess she has to save face somehow. This is a really poorly run restaurant in all ways, and I wish I had read the prior reviews which have similar observations as mine.

I also should add that the restaurant was empty, but they insisted we sit by the window next to a noisy group just so they can use us to fill their window as if to indicate they were busy. They claimed the other tables were reserved, but they weren't. No one ever showed up. Really shoddy customer policies.

I ordered carry out after viewing the menu on their website. They gave me the wrong item. When I called, they insisted I got what I ordered and acted like I was crazy. They refused to do anything about it. Finally, after reading the description on the website and describing what I had, they said their website is outdated and they changed “Sex on the Beach” to be a completely different item with different ingredients years ago. (Probably should’ve changed the name then… and update the website) Finally, a manager? Wendy called me and said the best she could do was refund $6 out of the $16 dollars for an item I couldn’t eat because of their mistake. I never received a refund. Customer service is a lost art. For $16 they had an opportunity to gain a customer and a good review but Wendy dropped the ball. Hire a new manager and a web developer.

Well, it was my first and last time here. Honestly, nothing to see here, food was subpar. We ordered few rolls of sushi, salads, drinks. I was expecting a good quality based on reviews but I was very disappointed. I don’t know how they’re running this place but sushi rolls were ready in less then five minutes which raised a question when those rolls were prepared. Even though the rolls have special fancy names on the menu, there was nothing special about them. Flavors were kinda blah, everything looked more like a budget rolls. I can get a better quality sushi in Mariano’s or jewel. Nah, not for my taste by any means. I will go back to my favorite Blufish next time or Sushi Para for more budget friendly option.

We were seated with another family whose children were afraid of the fire. That father was allergic to butter so they brought his food out from the kitchen separately. We're vegetarians, so they completely wiped the grill after cooking the chicken for the other family. I think they did a great job accommodating us all. And there was so much food!

The quality of the sushi was good and there were a variety of options. Unfortunately, this is not what I'd consider AYCE based on their limitations on how much you can order (6 pieces for nigiri and 2 rolls per person), this is very much not the norm and is not explained automatically to you. Additionally, the price printed on the menu and website do not reflect the true price, which was handwritten on the menus and was higher than other truly AYCE sushi places in the area. The waitress was not very friendly and it was frustrating to see a 20% tip added automatically with no advanced warning given we were not a large party (less than 4 people). Overall, great food but not somewhere I can justify going again.

I really enjoyed my experience here on my birthday. Great place to celebrate a birthday or graduation or other event. The food was good too and plentiful. Chef was also funny and cool. Not sure why there are some bad reviews. I guess people are just picky. I had not had hibachi in a long time, but I really liked this place. The noodles were great too. More food than benhihana if I recall correctly. In since not many hibachi tables, I would make a reservation if you plan to go on a weekend. I was there on a Monday and still made a reservation.

This place is reasonably priced for 'all you can sushi' joint. We celebrated our mom's birthday here and ate a ton of sushi. The only caveat is that you have to finish everything on your plate before you can order more, so choose wisely. Next time, I will come back with a smart strategy.

I placed an order for pickup Saturday for a hibachi entree with chicken and scallops. They gave me teriyaki chicken after I asked for garlic butter, which was disgusting and I don’t like teriyaki so I did not request that, the container was just overly filled with liquid the side with the vegetables and even the meats were just drowned in sauce or juice. The fried rice was average more edible than the teriyaki chicken to me. I ordered a side of hibachi noodles and wish I hadn’t they seemed absolutely flavorless and waste of $9.

I’ve been here numerous time and slowly see the service go down. Food and Chief were great but everything else was terrible. Server only took food order. Not a refill or plate was taken away. She rolled her eyes anytime you asked her for anything such as a plate or glass of water which should have been at the table especially as the chief is trying to distribute the food. I feel that they take advantage of the 20% tip being included to give terrible service. I don’t mind tipping at least earn your money.

When I first came here about 10 years ago the food was very good including the hibachi and sushi.
Recently the sushi has really been downgraded it just tastes bland and extra chewy spicy tuna use to be awesome now it's ehhh I will be ordering sushi from other places for my money.

Tonight’s dinner was good. I went with the steak hibachi and it was delicious 🤤. I also had the tiger roll sushi which was also on par with most sushi 🍱 locations I have eaten at. The atmosphere was clean and very pleasant. The service was okay but was lacking a little. Being one of only three others inside the restaurant, getting a server was a struggle.

We have been coming here for over 10 years at least one or two times a year. It’s a great time and we enjoy the experience. Sadly my small family of 3 went out for dinner on 12/16/23 and the experience was very disappointing. We made reservations at 530pm and we were told it’s important to be on time so we arrived at 525pm. We were promptly seated with menus and within minutes a server arrived to take what I thought was our drink orders. Mind you we had no chance to look at the menus. When we gave the drink orders she just looked at me. I asked do you want to take our dinner order now? She said yes! Again no time to look at the menu but because we do eat here often we are familiar with the menu. I did ask for a sushi menu which did not come until after we placed our order. They accommodated my gluten issue stating they cannot cook it on main grill due to cross contamination which I appreciated.
Drinks came quickly and soon it was show time.
The presentation was grand as always.
Food was served in the usual fashion and my gluten free meal was served last, not an issue. We maybe had 5 minutes into eating our entree when they came out asking if anyone wanted to go boxes. Everyone at the table said yes and within minutes the boxes were handed out, while we are still eating. There is no room to put the to go boxes while eating. So there was a balancing act going on. Soon after the check appeared so it was a clear indication they wanted us to leave. So, as I put the 3 plates of food into the different boxes which is always the case so no issue. I got around to the check. To my surprise there was a 20% service charge! This is the first I have seen this at this restaurant and it was not on the menu, however keep in mind we had no time to look at the menu. I was in shock. The total bill for 3 people with the service charge was $171 with no alcohol and 2 appetizers of sushi. As I was considering to add additional tip or not I was asked to move to lounge in a different section because they needed the table. I told them I was not lounging!
We spent at most 35-40 minutes for a rushed and expensive meal. It was not enjoyable. I was completely disappointed in everything. You cannot do this. It’s not right. You need to post on the menus additional charges. I checked your web site after the fact and could not see anything. You need to allow people time to eat their meals and not be rushed out just because you want to flip the table. I appreciate the fact you need to make money but 35 min for $171 for three people is a lot of money. I waited this long to write a review, which I seldom due, because I wanted to ensure my feeling where sound.

went and paid $80 for for $40 worth of sushi. total scam and food was so mid. do not recommend because i kinda smelled like piss in there so order out if your gonna risk it. On top of everything there was feces on the bathroom floor. I am appalled by this and i think this restaurant should be investigated by the police for an unsanitary environment. I also think there was a toenail in my sushi roll or a fingernail i can’t tell but either way disgusting. When we walked in, there wasn't anyone at the front to check people in. Two large groups walked in behind us.... still no one playing attention. Once we finally got seated on the hibachi side, the service was mediocre at best. The server who took our order didn't write down everything we ordered, so the chef was annoyed from the start and he just was not good. The shrimp appetizers were served with dinner. Our rare steak was medium to well done since he decided rare steak could come off after the medium rare and medium steak. This was a stressful dinner that didn't deserve the 20% gratuity they added to the check. I won't be back!

My wife & I had a wonderful evening at Todoroki! We arrived early in the evening and so we had a hibachi table all to ourselves, which was cool! Overall the portion sizes are huge, the cooking is fun to watch, and the food is delicious. Pro Tip: A 20% service charge is included regardless of your party size (at least for the hibachi). It makes sense, but I wish it had been called out better, as I almost double-tipped!

Very disappointing, the staff is racist I'm ( Hispanic) I was seated for about 15 minutes or so right in front of the counter where the girl told us to seat 3 different customers walked in were seated and served while nobody came to serve us. I asked the front counter why weren't we getting served . She didn't know we were dining in. Apparently we just sat in a restaurant and look and menus for fun. Maybe management had a better response on why we were not waited on.

It's not my first time dining at this restaurant... Last night we invited friends to join us and all four of us ordered all you can eat sushi. All agreed that the quality of food has gone done over the years to the point that it feels like a supermarket sushi. The service is slow, the wait stuff is not rude but definitely not friendly. At times it feels like they just don't want you there. One thing is well streamlined though - an automatic 20% tip added to your bill. I'll look for a better experience somewhere else.

It is important to review your bill for informational purposes as you might have already been charged for a tip.

We ordered a hibachi meal for two, which cost $88, and a couple of side dishes. After including tax, our grand total came to $119.61, and there was an additional service charge of $21.60. The complete total was $141.21.

Upon noticing this charge, I inquired about its purpose, and I was informed that it was a gratuity for the chef and waitress.

However, I had already tipped the chef $10, and I had intended to leave an additional tip for the waitress until I saw this charge.

When I asked for an explanation, they clarified that it was a tip intended for the services provided. Apparently, the $88 for the meal for two people, along with the cost of the sides, was not sufficient to cover the expenses of the cook and waitstaff.

Upon expressing my concern, they refunded the charge, and I ended up leaving a $13 tip for the waitress.

Once again, it is advisable to carefully examine your bill, as you might have already paid a gratuity.

This charge was not mentioned on any physical menus we received, and we did not see it listed online. However, when we contacted the establishment again to address this issue, they assured us that it is a standard practice.

Therefore, I recommend being vigilant with your bill, and if you wish to leave a $45 tip on top of a $100 bill, please feel free to do so. That is approximately what we would have left had we not reviewed our bill.

The lady in the front when you first enter was rude from the beginning as she was trying to work both the hibachi and sushi side all by herself as was rushing back and forth. My family is nigerian and had never ate this type of food and wanted to ask questions but she acted very nonchalant, luckily the chef was nicer and made the experience better. The food was decent while eating but I became sick when I got home. This is my third time and last time coming here as I feel I should not pay $200 or more and be treated subpar or less than other guest to come home and be on the toilet all night!

Been coming here for years the quality of the food has stayed the same but the service has dropped drastically. We went here for dinner and it took someone at least 20 mins to take our orders and there were barely any people. Then after 10 mins they brought our drinks and told us two of our drinks we ordered were out. Then they brought us red wine as replacement and it was in the wrong glass and it was sour. And after 25 mins of ordering drinks they finally brought our edamame.

When we finally got our sushi it tasted great. But wait the trouble didn’t end there. The restaurant was pretty empty by the time we finished and after 10 mins we had to ask them for the bill. They didn’t even ask if we wanted any dessert.

When the bill came it of course had the drinks that they said they were out of and the wine that was sour. And they even added an automatic 20% gratuity to the bill. Honestly I would recommend skipping Todoroki, there are better places now in the area it’s not worth the terrible customer service.

Really great place. Checked it out by myself today and I will definitely go out of my way to come back, especially for an evening with a group. Great atmosphere, and my sampling of the menu has left me extremely impressed. Very affordable as well, at least during lunch; as pictured I got the veggie tempura appetizer and white rice, and also got miso soup and tamago sashimi, and my bill only came to about $25. The miso soup was a little bland for my taste, but easily forgiven, because everything else blew my expectations clear out of the water. Took my mother here for Mother's Day and will not be coming back. I was super disappointed with their hibachi place because otherwise their sushi is pretty good.

I used to live in Evanston and this restaurant always my go to! Both sushi side and hibachi side! Chef pretty funny and entertaining! Food was delicious! Will definitely go back again!

My family and I made a reservation for hibachi on Friday for the next day, Saturday at 7pm. Everyone was super excited to have hibachi and for the food to be cooked at the table. Upon arrival we were informed that we cannot have an hibachi table because one of the chef's called off due to a family emergency. They offered to sit us at a regular table and bring our food to us. But that defeats the purpose and the experience. I understand that things happen. But for them not to call, email, text etc.. to let us know they could not accommodate us for dinner would have been greatly appreciated. The kids were heart broken due to this. So we decided to leave and had a great dinner at Prarie Moon they never let us down.
Sorry to say that was a bad look for Todoroki.

I have been to so many hibachi restaurants but none taste better than Todoroki! My boyfriend absolutely loves it so we come at least twice a month. The service is already really good and the chefs tricks are always entertaining!

Very concerned about the hygiene of this place. The tables were uncleaned with crumbs leftover from the previous day (we were the first customers on that day) and the waitress was filling the water jug from what looked like a bathroom sink! We were also not welcomed when we arrived and had to wait for a while until the waitress (the only waitress working at that time) to arrive to work. The chefs were obviously there behind the sushi bars but they just completely ignored us until the waitress arrived.

One of my favorite places to go in Evanston. Good food, great for family dinners or date night. Hibachi life is fun!! Check them out, kind of pricey so get the Groupon that's avail online. Food is fresh and delicious😋.

Very expensive with very poor quality. Great show, but one person in our party of 12 had sand in their scallops and the manager refused to take it off the bill. More disappointing and disturbing is that I got food poisoning within 4hrs of eating chicken and fried rice. I was the only one with poisoning as I was the only person to have their meal prepared in the kitchen. After speaking with a friend, they informed me the same thing happened with their family member after eating here. Will not return and do not recommend.

The food is good and staff is kind. Everything else is bad.

- we waited 45 minutes for a table despite reservation
- there were clearly construction violations
- doors locked inside and out
- credit card charged twice

I came here on a Saturday night with a party of 12 for a reservation at 8pm. The doors were locked and the restaurant was full of people. There appeared to be construction in the adjacent building (also owned by Todoroki). We entered the construction area looking for the restaurant and were told no one is allowed in the construction room, even though it was the only way to enter (probably building code for insurance purposes). We were also told there was a 30 minute wait for a table despite reservation. The doors were locked on the inside and outside so we could not leave without asking a staff member. We waited 45 minutes for a table and were finally seated. The chef was excellent and food was very nice. The next day the credit card used at the restaurant was charged a SECOND TIME for the full price of the dinner.
I don't know what is going on at this restaurant but it seems sketchy and I don't recommend it.

The food and ambience was nice. But the service there is terrible. They has so many rules. Half our table wanted to do "all you can eat sushi" and half wanted to order individual servings from the menu so we requested to charge us as separate tables. After some pondering, they agreed, but made us physically separate our tables. The individual menu order was fine later and we can do whatever we wanted. The "all you can eat" had such strict rules, like finish your round 1 before you can order more the 1 thing you liked a lot (which saves food so it is good in a way), and no sharing if someone on the table gets a hot plate. And someone from the bar is constantly keeping an eye on you which made the dine in experience so awkward. Food was good, but definitely feel weird about dining in again.

We absolutely loved it!!! My partner and I wanted to try out a new hibachi spot and I’m so glad we chose this one. The food felt like it was cooked with love haha! We ordered the hibachi filet mignon and shrimp and hibachi salmon and chicken. During dinner time they add extra shrimp on your plate even if you didn’t order it which was a great bonus.

If you love lemons and sushi I highly recommend the lemon crush roll it was superb. While lastly need a cute non alcoholic drink? Get the rose lemonade it’s so pretty to get your pictures but super yummy too!!

Ordered for delivery on DoorDash. Estimates wait time was 50-60 minutes, my order took 2.5 hours. And then when it arrived, I had the wrong food. My name and receipt was on the bag, but instead of 3 sushi rolls, I got a big plain fried rice. At that point it was 9:30 PM and too late to order something else. Very disappointed. The fried rice was okay tasting but nothing special.

Avoid this sushi place at all costs. We went there with another family (8 people total) for all you can eat sushi a few months ago. We figured we would order a few rounds until everyone was satisfied. The first round order took almost 2 hours. Then the sushi was not great and very heavy on the rice. By then none of us wanted anything but to get out of there - no way we were waiting another hour or two for more food. Can you believe they had the nerve to try and charge us for 4 pieces that were left at the table!?!?! I refused and worked things out with the manager and we left. A few weeks later, I received a call from the manager/owner who apologized for our service saying they were just short staffed and begged us to give them another try. Last night we decided to give another try and order takeout. Surprise… it was awful. It took 30 minutes longer than the hour we were promised. Our order of 3 bean curd (Inari) was replaced with tamago (that was dried out and tasted old). The crunchy spicy tuna rolls had ZERO crunch and all the sushi was WAY too heavy on the rice. Even my 15 yr old who can usually eat his weight in sushi couldn’t get this food down - it was inedible. We are done with this place and you should be too.

The food was amazing, simply delicious. We got miso soup (the tofu was in very small cubes and had a great proportion of broth to tofu), vegetarian udon noodles (also great), and sushi.
For someone who doesn't like fish or avocado, the carrot and cucumber sushi (not specifically on the menu, but we asked for it) was amazing. It's the first sushi I've had in 15 years and it completely surpassed my expectations.
Our server, Julia S, was fantastic as well! It was a very busy night and she had a ton of tables to serve, but she made sure to make us feel welcome and well taken care of.

The sushi is terrible. This used to be my go to sushi place, but they have had a massive and steep decline.

I went back because friends wanted hibachi there, my rice was disgusting and inedible, I can't tell if they failed to cook it or if the heat was up super high but either way it was hard and inedible.

Tragic, this used to be a great place.

It's loud.... Like 3 children's birthday parties at the same time loud. Not what I would recommend for date night but if you're planning a kids birthday party, the kids there had a great time. The food is a bit oily and one note for me which I think works for kids. If you want to do the habachi make sure you make an appointment.

We came for lunch at the hibachi table but unfortunately they do not offer that for lunch. We were able to get the same great food without the show. The service was outstanding. We enjoyed the chicken teriyaki bento box, the scallops hibachi, edamame, sweet potato roll and mochi ice cream. The only negative was the lack of cleanliness on the floor. There were dirty old napkins keeping the tables from being wobbly and some food on the floor.

Stopped into this place yesterday for a Valentine’s Day dinner. We had reservations at 8 and they were so busy that we probably weren’t seated until about 9-915. Looks like they only had 2 Hibachi chefs and that’s what my party decided on. We started with drinks and I ordered a Long Island which I believe was $8 but the bar tender made it pretty strong. We got the salad first and it is pretty small, however it is very tasty with the ginger dressing. We also ordered the vegetable tempura which was also delicious. Although I am not big on eating meat, I did order the 2 tailed lobster. Everything was amazing from the customer service to the chef to the food. The food was well seasoned, you have to appreciate the garlic butter on the lobster and veggies, there is no meat in the fried rice as well only eggs. The owner stepped in and made sure our party had a great time and experience. She has a vivid memory as well, if you patronized her restaurant and spoke to her before she absolutely remembers you. I like that, shows that she has a good memory and even better interpersonal skills. I highly recommend this place for hibachi, I drove all the way from Chicago to enjoy the food here and won’t mind doing it again.
