What an overpriced disappointment….. This place has ZERO ambiance like the other locations. Not even a hint of it. It feels like eating in your local Chinese restaurant. This place has so much of nothing going for it that there is no way they should be charging a fraction of what they are. Now, the CWE location doesn’t bother us to pay these prices but it has ambiance, quality service, quality everything going for it. Our service here was very mediocre (seemingly brand new waitresses or uncaring), our presentation of the food was dull, and half, you know what, put together, and not like the photos (it’s what makes DF fun) I am very glad we skipped drinks as who knows what kind of lack luster drink we would have received. The bright side is the food was alright. That’s it, just alright tasting food. This place needs to be turned around big time and it’s a crying shame. Strike this one off the list of ever going back to.

I’ve been here four times now, and it’s the same story every time. The service is insanely slow. Tonight I sat at the bar for about 15 minutes being mostly ignored before leaving. There were 0 other people at the bar and about 5 tables with people. This was 7pm on a Friday. So obviously business isn’t booming.

The drinks here are absurd. Every wine on the menu is a crappy $10-15 bottle. And to have the pleasure of drinking these wines, you will pay $3-5 more than the price of a bottle for a single glass, and you will pay 5-6x the price of a bottle for a bottle. The normal markup at a nice restaurant is 1.5-3x retail. If you want liquor, expect airport prices. A couple bulleits on the rocks is gonna run you $35-40. It’s really crazy 😂

But really, the service is the issue. It’s just a slog. It’s an easy fix. Be more attentive and don’t make people sit and wait. Also, let’s be serious, order some decent wine and charge normal rates. People will order more and be happier.

Kyoto is a much better bet. Food’s better, staff is dramatically better, prices are normal, booze selection is better. And it’s a half mile down the road.

Do better Drunken Fish. Don’t take advantage of the college kids by gouging and serving low quality stuff, and more of us middle aged guys will come back.

I was really impressed with their creative & tasty sushi rolls! And we got a great deal on Groupon for $100 credit towards a meal! We had the Dynamite Salmon roll & (I highly recommend) the Surf & Turf roll. My husband enjoyed the pork gyoza dumplings & combination stir-fried soba noodles (another recommended dish, especially for non-sushi-eating folks) 😊. I didn’t like the fried cheesecake w/strawberry sauce because it was soggy & lukewarm. Nonetheless, we would come back again. I gave 4-stars because they messed up on my order of ikura nigri - they brought out regular salmon sashimi the first time, and they overcharged us the wrong price the second time. (2 mishaps were not enough to ruin our Saturday lunch.) Overall, we enjoyed our first lunch here as husband & wife because we just got married ❤️

Celebrated my husbands birthday at this location and had the opportunity to try the new menu. We are huge sushi fans and use to sushi in FL. This new menu brought that back to us. It was more than a sushi roll, more like a party in your mouth. also had an amazing Nutella dessert. Our server was very sweet. Nick was at this location that night. He puts together these new items. Great Job Nick. Manager Becca also made an appearance at our table. Love that lady, very knowledgeable about the food and just overall great customer service. Thank you Drunken Fish for a great evening out.

Group of four. The server took everyone's order except mine. She was way too busy trying to figure out the wifi password for someone in the group instead of taking all the orders. Then she walked away... I had to shout to get her attention. She refilled everyone's glass except mine. She came back and apologized because the manager was not there to do all the orders. It was my first and will be my last time at this place. I'm not recommending this place to anyone.

I do NOT Recommend going to the Drunkin Fish in Edwardsville. I can 100% tell why it was extremely slow.

Poor service, no customer acknowledgement or greeting, the server never greeted us or asked what we wanted to drink, we almost left waiting to be greeted at the table, overpriced food for less than child size portions. The manager was to busy chatting with friends, and dirty tables everywhere.

I don’t typically post bad reviews but I am so
Extremely disappointed. With being a manager in the restaurant industry, I was crawling in my skin over multiple different issues.

The food tasted great, this place had so much potential if it was actually managed and ran correctly.

My friends and I went to this place 06/18/2024 and we were discriminated. The waitress and the manager claimed out legal Illinois driver’s licenses were fake because of the “lighting” on each pictures was different. One of my friends even had to show a picture of her passport and they were still giving us a hard time. This is discrimination!! very weird that we were all Hispanic. ..

I understand that you need to ask for an ID and we all provided our Illinois drivers license and you guys claimed they were fake because the lighting on the pictures was different. No ones other costumers had issues with their drivers licenses just us. I believe we were discriminated by race.. we provided what you guys asked

Drunken Fish is going to be my new go-to sushi place! Yesterday I placed a catering order and I got a call saying that it couldn't be completed and they were incredibly sorry. Rebecca, the person I spoke to on the phone was very apologetic and offered for us to come today and and pick up the order at a reduced price. She took amazing care of us and did everything she could to make sure I was happy with the order. The business is lucky to have someone who cares so much about their customers! As far as the food, the sushi tasted incredibly fresh and every bit was eaten! We loved everything and will definitely be back! Thank you so much to Rebecca also, you're awesome!

We took the family out for Mother's Day and had a fantastic time at Drunken Fish! The food came out quickly and service was excellent throughout our time there.

We ordered a few specialty rolls, a couple orders of sashimi and nigiri, a chicken tonkatsu and fried rice all tasted wonderful and fresh.

This type of food can be costly so it's not something we can do very often, but definitely worth it for special occasions.

I was not impressed with the sushi here, especially for the price. All things being equal, there's better sushi for cheaper out there I hope they make a lot of sales on alcohol because the food isn't going to do it.My eel roll did not have eel sauce on it, and my California roll was falling apart. The soy sauce they gave me leaked in the bag and the best part of their presentation was the fancy plastic container they put the food in. Normally I would have a photo to post, but found it so lac luster that I didn't want to take a picture.

Came here with the intention of spending well over $100 as my boyfriend just finished his service in the airforce and came back home. The food was delicious, the drinks, eh, a little too much vodka in them; but I was NOT expecting to be shamed for eating a large amount of food I don't normally eat as I've been battling with bulimia. I will never come here by myself. I work in food service as well and would NEVER do this to any other customer. If you have a complaint over someone using two tables, don't say anything and just keep it to yourself. And for the record, this wasn't the manager, he was nice. This was involving two servers. The one that started the complaint was training a girl tonight. The one that answered her was our server. Oh well, she lost a $20 tip I give automatically and instead made $2. Don't badmouth customers RIGHT NEXT to their tables.

This restaurant had so much potential, and has the ability to be good, but is absolutely overpriced and the portions are abysmally small.
The service is usually great. The wait-staff always smile and are very helpful. The food is good, but absolutely NOT worth the ridiculous prices that are charged for it. I had high hopes that the Edwardsville location would scale their pricing based on the local market, but that's clearly not the case here.
Sushi was alright but the consistency between rolls has varied drastically between multiple visits. I can't bring myself to pay the ridiculous price of $24 for a fried piece of boneless chicken breast with bottled katsu sauce, a small pre-mixed salad with bottled dressing, a 50 cent bowl of miso paste soup, and a small serving of steamed white rice, no matter how good it may be.
The restaurant itself is beautiful.
One major complaint I have is the lack of consistency for the price of the food and drinks. I have come in 4 seperate times and ordered an Asian Mary, by name, and pointed to the menu to show the bartender exactly what I want, and 3 of 4 times, I was served a regular Bloody Mary with an olive instead of the specialty cocktail with specific liquor, house-made mix, and a cucumber garnish. I wouldn't have a problem with this, but when you're paying STL prices for food and drinks, you expect them to be correct, especially when the menu advertises a house-made Mary Mix and then the bartenders use Zing-Zang 😂
It's weird that the bathroom is shared with Kimchi Guys next door, but I get that they are owned by the same restaurant group. It just feels...cheap, since they try to present themselves as upscale, and Kimchi guys next door is more of a "fast-casual, to-go based eatery".
I guess my point here is, there are much more reasonably priced, consistent options both locally and within a reasonable drive, and I'll always recommend going somewhere else, but if you're trying to impress someone with the atmosphere of an "upscale" sushi restaurant, I guess you could potentially show up here (but honestly, I'd only come back if someone else paid for my food, or if I could put it on a company card.)
My takeaways (not that anyone asked): Provide more reasonable portion sizes, put an emphasis on consistency with food and drink quality, make sure the staff know the menu that they are serving. 4 visits and only 1 of them was semi-correct. Pricing is abhorrent

SERVICE:
The place was empty and we told our waitress it was a very special occasion for us: celebrating a birthday. It took SO LONG to get our food, they sent some edamames to keep us from leaving.
The waitress was told in several occasions about issues with our orders and her response was always the same "sorry about that, I'm glad everything else is OK" and proceeded to do nothing, just leave.
FOOD:
The food is expensive, not great quality and the plates are a joke: almost seems like done to get it out of the way. I ordered "poke". I understand it will not be exactly as the one I would expect in Hawai'i, but a bowl of rice with a few pieces of salmon on top is RIDICULOUS. At least research how it's supposed to look like!!

If you check out my reviews, you will notice I mostly post what I do like about the places. Very rarely i find exceptions like this place where everything is SO INCREDIBLY BAD, I just can't let other people go through the same.
PLEASE, DO NOT GO HERE. This is a horrible combination of people who don't care about the food with people who don't care about the patrons.

I would give it a zero, if I could.

The food is awesome. The only thing that would make it better is if they would keep an eye on on our drinks! Every time I’m there the server walks by and looks at my empty drink/bottle and just keeps on going. I ended up going to the bar and getting my own on the last two visits. The place isn’t busy at the time we are there. They could sell twice as many highly profitable items if they would just notice my mostly empty glass of beer and ask if I want another. The food quality makes up for it though.

Me and my husband just came here for the first time super excited and we came into the building, first glance a super nice place. It took a few minutes for us to be seated no big deal. The waitress was friendly. Then we looked at the menu and realized how overpriced it was. But we stuck with it and got the shrimp tempura. 15 DOLLARS for 6 pieces of tempura shrimp! And the batter was falling off of it and it was not great. Then we proceeded to guilt order 2 of the cheapest rolls on the menu. A shrimp tempura roll and a California roll. The shrimp tempura roll only had 5 pieces and it was almost 11 dollars! While the cali roll was 9 and had 8 pieces! And the cucumber in the cali roll was sour and the asparagus in the shrimp roll was floppy! Oh and my husband got a small hot sake and guess how much this mediocre meal was? 48 frigging dollars! We will never be back and beware to everyone else trying to find a decent sushi place because this is NOT IT.

For a Saturday night in Edwardsville there were maybe 4 groups actually dining in at this restaurant and I think that should have been my clue. Cocktails for 14 and didnt seem worth it in my opinion. The sushi was not as good as I expected and for the price it definitely did not live up to the hype. Shrimp tempura appetizer had no flavor. Edamame would have been perfectly fine but they put all the salt on the plate and none on the edamame. Lobster spring rolls were 4 skinny rolls with okay flavor little to no lobster and an interesting wasabi honey sauce that didnt really go well with the rolls. And for 20 dollars no the lobster spring rolls were not worth it. Service was okay kind of slow and never took empty cups from the table so we had to place them all in a corner. If youre okay with paying for overpriced food that just tastes alright then you would love it.

I was excited to have another sushi option in Edwardsville, but that excitement was dampened after my experience at Druken Fish.

The restaurant lacks luster compared to other locations. All of the booths have ripped upholstery. I can't believe booths would have that amount of damage with their recent opening. The only logical conclusion is that they used old booths from a previous location. Why one would add old seating in a new restaurant is beyond me. The overall decor was unimpressive and appeared basic based on the amount their menu items cost.

I entered the restaurant around 2 pm. on a Thursday. The waitress barely spoke while walking me to my table. There were only 3 tables occupied in the restaurant, but it still took 20 minutes for the waitress to take my order.

I ordered the lobster spring rolls. I didn't taste any seafood, but it was decent. I ordered two rolls, fried Philly & and another- I don't recall the name. Both had a weird taste and didn't taste fresh. The manager came out and apologized. She offered other options, but I refused. She zeroed out the tab. Again, she was nice, but I would not return to this location.

Well, I won't be going back here ever again. As someone who has faithfully patronized the Drunken Fish brand at their many St. Louis locations, I was excited for them to open in Edwardsville. What an absolute disappointment!

First, the atmosphere is abysmal. Cheap finishes, fixtures, furniture. It was clear that everything was done in an inexpensive fashion and the only thing I could think was, "Wow, this is CHEAP." The "sushi bar" was pathetic. Plain wall on the back of the bar with papers taped up to the wall. Nothing fancy, nothing to at all demand the exorbitant prices they are charging. Is it really so difficult to put up a nice tile or wallpaper? To give the place some ambiance? The flooring was cheap, the decor was non-existent. Very disappointed.

The staff - whew. I don't even know where to begin. The most motley crew I've ever seen in a restaurant where you can't even begin to walk out for less than $100 for lunch for two people. I felt like I was part of a joke or a reality TV show where someone would walk out like Candid Camera and tell me I was being pranked. Waiters had face tattoos, the "sushi chefs" were very inappropriate - joking with each other and talking about how they were going to party later. Lots of yelling, screaming with workers in the back. It was like I was being fed by a frat house. Extremely inappropriate.

We ordered a shrimp tempura appetizer, a house salad, 3 sushi rolls, and 1 nigiri. The bill was over $90 not including tax or tip! For LUNCH! But, that's not all. Oh, no.

When we ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer we were asked what sauce we wanted. We didn't know and they said they would bring all three. Imagine my surprise when EACH SAUCE was an additional .75 on my bill. I was not told this would be a charge by the waiter. I guess charging $13.95 for 5 pieces of shrimp (which really was the equivalent of 2 pieces of shrimp as the shrimp was practically non-existent in the grossly overdone batter) just wasn't enough ROI for greedy Drunken Fish.

The waiter forgot to bring out my salad and they didn't come back to our table to check on us. When I finally flagged them down and asked about the salad they brought it out at the end of my meal and it was the most pathetic tiny bit of wilted lettuce with a glob of ginger dressing on top. For $7.95. I was shocked.

The sushi rolls were decent but had very little fish of any kind on them. Skimp, skimp, skimp is the motto here.

I am a healthy eater and eat 5x a day - so I don't need a ton of food at one sitting. However, I walked out of this $100+ lunch starving and went home and ate.

I will never, ever go back. Never. There is a reason why they don't list any of their prices on their website - because they are price gouging and cheap. As a customer, and a long-standing one of Drunken Fish, I won't ever be going to any of their locations again. It is clear their ownership only cares about one thing - and it's not their customers. It's the bottom line $$$.

Place is fine. The new style sashimi was a complete miss. This was “seared tuna” it was just cooked. What ever they used didn’t create a sear, it just cooked the tuna. Manager did comp it, after he tried to shame me

The food is just…bad. Edememe hummus (which I’m embarrassed I ordered) was terrible. The dipping won ton strips were overly salted and stale. Sent back. A manager explained they were “freshly made” in the morning but not really sure how deep frying some dough goes stale in a day then get over loaded in salt. The sushi was mediocre at best. Staff was nice; I don’t fault them. But this is just bad food all around. Don’t go here.

Decided to try around 2pm on a Thursday. It was not very busy at all, our waitress arrived quickly to take our drink order but seemed like she didn’t want to be there. My wife and I both ordered one sushi roll each and the small lobster spring roll that is 13 dollars. After the order was made our waitress was ghost, I had to wave her down to get a refill, again it was not busy maybe 5 other tables. 30 minutes later we got our spring roll, which was not worth 13 dollars. It was one spring roll cut in half with way too much dipping sauce. There was no lobster in it essentially seasoned cream cheese, maybe there was lobster essence blown on it??? But def not a lobster spring roll or worth the money. 30 more minutes go by and still no sushi, or waitress. Waved her down again to be told the sushi was on the way. 10 minutes later my wife and I receive our sushi rolls. The disappointing part was after a total of 70 minutes of waiting they got my wife’s sushi roll incorrect, but because it took so long my wife told the waitress she would just eat what they brought, there was an awkward apology but that was it. The sushi was only like 7 pieces I think and both of our rolls were 18 dollars each. The sushi I got wasn’t bad but I don’t think the quality was worth the price. I’m
Not sure what roll they brought my wife incorrectly but it was not great. Overall I can’t recommend Drunken Fish it’s over priced, bad service, and frankly there are better places in Edwardsville to go to.

We went on a Saturday very early like around 3:30. Place was pretty dead. We get seated and the hostess took my drink order while my wife was still looking over the wine menu. Hostess asked if she could come back and take the rest of the drink order. We said no problem and off she went. Well five plus minutes went by and in that time our waitress said she would be with us soon. Another five plus minutes go by still no lady back to take rest of drink order and no waitress. Place is dead like only two more couples there. Another few minutes go by, this point I am about ready to just leave. I finally stopped another waitress since ours was no where to be found. She was polite and apologized and took our drink and food order. We weren't impressed with the appetizer or the sushi. I have been to pretty much every sushi place in the metro area including two other DF locations. Not much of a selection and high prices. The only good thing is that our waitress took off 20% from our bill without us even asking or complaining. The funny thing is the lady that was seated near us about 15 minutes after we got there had to also track down another waitress to get served.

This was a strange experience. The prices are extremely over-priced for the portion sizes, which are paltry, plus presentation was lacking. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the prices and portions are not competitive enough for our area and have raised considerably from what I remember over the years. For example, $17 for 6-7 appetizer of chicken wings dumped on a plate with no dipping sauce or crudités or extra embellishment. Inflation, I understand, but this is not on par to other local sushi joints. The server had an off-putting attitude and a large majority of her lower-back was not covered by her t-shirt, which was too small and pilled. All the sauces, extra salad dressing, and refills on drinks cost extra. The furniture appeared to not be new despite the brand new building, everything looked used - maybe taken from another of their chain’s location? Just odd. Decor and music was frankly dated. Again, for the price, the ambience and presentation was not there. A salad with a tablespoon of dressing was $8 for example. Sushi roll was good, but at almost $20 it did not fill me up. Sticky sweet potato fries were served in a bowl that was oversized for the pitiful amount presented. The inside of the fries were not cooked, they were crunchy not fluffy inside. My husband got a poke bowl and the server said it was not reported by patrons to be spicy. It was inedibly spicy and he got a Wendy’s burger on the way home. Just the worst dining experience I’ve had in years frankly. I probably won’t be back; such a shame I used to love going to the St. Louis locations for Happy Hour specials.

One of our favorite sushi places has gotten a little closer to home.

This location is new (as of July 2023) so keep that in mind for any waits or learning curves for the staff.

Everything we had was cooked and presented well, the restaurant atmosphere is SUPER trendy and comfortable. The staff were all very kind and helpful with ordering.

The combination Udon is amazing, and the fried Philly roll is one of my favorites.

I was excited to visit the new location in Edwardsville. I met my friend there last Friday evening, I arrived around 530 pm. My friend was already seated at the bar, which wasn't busy. I was immediately greeted by the bartender with a menu. As we browsed the menu, I noticed things began to pick up, and the bartender looked to be moving slowly. We sat for a while before he came back to take our orders. He first asked for the drink order, which he took a while to make two mixed cocktails. He delivered the drinks but didn't ask if we were ready to order food, so it took at least 20 mins or more of sitting and waiting before we could place the food order. I believe he was new because he seemed lost at what to do and was moving slowly. There was a snag with my order, but it was soon corrected by a different person because he seemed lost on what to do with the order taking on the register. I also observed the bartender with a white towel that he used to wipe sweat from his face and also was sitting the towel down on surfaces behind the bar. I watched to see if he would use the towel to wipe anything else, but I didn't catch that if he did. Overall, my food was delicious, but the service was lacking.

AVOID THIS PLACE!!

DF is the most overpriced sushi/Japanese restaurant in the metro area. The portion-to-price ratio is better at literally every other sushi restaurant in the area.

The sushi rolls lacked flavor based on listed ingredients and were quite small. The sashimi was just okay. The smoked salmon appears to be the same as what you’d buy at a local grocery store instead of a traditional sashimi cut.

I was excited to try this place but it’s clear they’ve spent their money on the atmosphere and very little on the food.

The staff was friendly.

We’ve gone 3 different times. Once opening weekend and 2 other times after that.

Opening weekend the sushi rolls were delicious. We bought the fried cheesesteak and fried Philly rolls. Both again were amazing. We also bought a chicken fried rice entree which was so-so. Service however was amazing.

My wife wanted to go back a different evening for the sushi rolls but we were short on time. Because of that my wife called to place an order for takeout. Apparently management has decided that they will not take carry out orders over the phone. You must show up, order at the bar and then wait. I attempted to do that but after waiting 10 minutes to order at the crowded bar we decided to eat somewhere else. It was very surprising that we were unable to order ahead for carry-out. However I do not fault the staff for that because it’s a management decision.

The third time we went and ordered the same sushi rolls as before and something had changed. I’m not sure if it was the quality of ingredients or a different cook/chef but the rolls were almost bland.

Out waiters and service during our visits were great, but the food quality/taste was subpar for the price point after opening weekend.

I was very disappointed with my experience. For a place saying they are the best sushi in St. Louis I expected a LOT better. My group tried the drunken fish roll, spicy butterfly roll, and the starburst roll. Flavors were seriously lacking. Could barely taste the shrimp or crab, overall it tasted very very plain. If only it tasted as good as it looked! The only thing that did taste good was the lobster spring roll appetizer, but the amount we got for paying $17 was not worth it.

Which that is the biggest issue here, the prices do not reflect the quality of food received. It isn't even competitively priced compared to the other sushi places around Edwardsville. There is also no daily or lunch specials that I could tell.

Besides the food my few other complaints:
MUSIC TOO LOUD. We sat outside since it was a nice day and was being drowned out by the music playing. Made it very hard to carry on a conversation at the table without needing to feel like I'm yelling.

Didn't receive drink refills until we were about finished with our meal.

Overall after this experience I'll be sticking to my main sushi place just down the road.

TL;DR: overpriced, bad service, loud environment, and ultimately not worth it

Sushi was mid af - I got a white tiger roll made so it was practically just a California roll plus calamari and cream cheese, but there was hardly any calamari in it and the single roll was almost $20 (I frequent a different sushi place near Springfield where I can get two better rolls for less than what I spent here on one). Like, I've made homemade sushi that was better than this. Oh, and a single order of their $17 rice (which didn't taste great) was probably size equivalent to a bowl at Panda Express.

The service was also terrible and the restaurant was too loud. The waiter didn't look my boyfriend in the eye the entire night, but instead focused on me for some reason? It was weird...never got refills, either. We also had to wait a long time to get our food or to be waited on despite many others who came after us getting their food first.
