Our Chef’s Omakase tasting is comprised of 15-17 dishes per person. We offer 3 seatings per night with limited seating. It is a small restaurant with an intimate, extremely special atmosphere designed just for this type of dining. Book your table through Resy or call us. We look forward to serving you!
Omakase Yume is a true gem in Chicago for authentic, delicious omakase. Every single piece was meticulously crafted and absolutely divine, there wasn’t a single bite that fell short. The quality of the fish was outstanding, and the flavors were perfectly balanced.

Chef Sangtae Park prioritizes the freshest, high-quality fish flown in from Japan. The sushi rice is perfectly balanced, complementing the delicate flavors of the seafood.
While respecting tradition, Chef Park isn't afraid to add unique flourishes. Think kimchi puree or sesame oil accents, creating an exciting twist on familiar ingredients.
The restaurant's small size fosters a close-knit atmosphere. You'll likely find yourself chatting with fellow diners or even Chef Park himself, making the meal a truly personal experience.
This is a serious sushi haven. The service is attentive, but the focus is on savoring the exceptional flavors curated by Chef Park. Be prepared for a more formal and quiet dining experience

A truly top-notch Omakase experience, showcasing exceptional quality through the sushi rice and the unique seasoning on the fish. Our meal included 16 courses, with the option to add special items at the end before dessert. The space is super intimate, with only six tables arranged around the sushi bar. The pacing might be on the slightly faster side (our meal was about an hour and 20 minutes), though we still thoroughly enjoyed our entire meal.
Highlights from our visit included the Tuna flights served in succession (Akami, Chu Toro, and Toro), Shima Aji (Yellowjack), Kanpachi, Botan Ebi, and Grilled Miso Black Cod.

Fantastic omakase in Chicago! I highly recommend. The service was very lovely, detailed, and each of the items was absolutely delicious. This is a place I’ll definitely be back to. The space is pretty, comfortable, and intimate. The service was the right balance between formal and restrained but without being too stuffy.

NB: I would highly recommend requesting the raw fish add-ons ahead of time / at the beginning of service at the latest to allow the chef to prepare the fish with sufficient time for it to come to room temperature.
Excellent experience all around. The chef’s assistant suggested an off the menu uji matcha soda when I requested a chilled tea, which went great with the rest of the meal, and chef Park himself was very knowledgeable about the ingredients. The fish and toppings were all prepared meticulously, and the more interesting accoutrements (i.e. ginger, scallions and other herbs fermented in shoyu for a month) paired well with the chosen fish—a good balance between satisfying both the diner’s experience of the fish and the chef’s personal style. His handling of the sweet shrimp / amaebi was a lovely demonstration of mottainai, using the shells as part of the stock for miso soup and the innards in the head for an “ebi miso” on top of the nigiri, which I found reminiscent of the typical preparation of kawahagi with its liver on top.
General decor of the place is intimate and peaceful, as expected of a 6 seat counter. The place sports a lot of pieces with interesting designs, i.e. the porcelain display behind the counter or even the coat rack that doubles as wall art, which show chef Park’s pride in the place.

Incredible experience marred at the end when they weren’t able to split the bill in increments (can only do 50/50) and they didn’t accept Apple Pay.

The 17-course omakase was excellent, especially the Botan Ebi, Misoyaki Cod, Miso Soup & Matcha Panna Cotta. You could order the specials (additional charges apply) and I tried the wagyu, which was great as well. As for sake, I would recommend the Dasai 39 as a good balance between quality and price point.

absolutely world class black cod; chutoro, otoro with black salt, miso soup with prawn head all break into the 9/10 category. the panna cotta with imported strawberries at the end was incredible. overall the flavors were punchy, precise, and pristine.
note: a la carte items at the end were totally inferior to the omakase. don't stray from the course.

The fish and service are excellent. It’s just ridiculously expensive. I was disappointed in the strawberry shooter dessert- nothing special and I had been excited to try the matcha dessert that other reviews had mentioned recently.

I, so badly, want to leave a 5-star review. Chef Park is a master. He is everything you expect from this very specific and precise craft. The service is fantastic and the surroundings are intimate. There are 6 diners in the room and this can make or break your experience. There is a specific request not to wear overwhelming amounts of cologne or perfume and I badly hoped the people who disobeyed would be asked to leave. Four of us arrived on time and the last two showed up late and came in with no less than 4 fragrance sprays on per person. They were loud and rude, frequently groping each other in this small, well-lit room. I am disgusted at the fact that the staff and head chef didn’t ask these two people to leave. Two people can ruin the experience for the remaining four diners. I will likely not be returning and I would recommend going with friends to avoid this experience.

This is the BEST Omakase we have had. We have gone to multiple ones including Japan, LA, NY, etc. but Chef Park serves. The sushi was absolutely perfect. The love he has for each dishes can be tasted. Each one was different from the other. The fish were as good as the one in LA; some even comparable to being in Japan. We will definitely come back if we ever get an opportunity to come back to Chicago.

Underperformed high expectations. Yes, food impeccable in terms of quality and preparation. But compared to other restaurants of this type, this all fish menu didn't imagine any other sort of dishes, thus lacking creativity. The chef was unenaged, barely spoke, showed zero interest in explaining the dishes. No energy. Almost awkward. A great omakase experience at this price point shares many details of where the ingredients were sourced and other color about the meal. Here: dead silence. The room was meh. 6 seats. A barely present server. I wouldn't go back and at this price point and I would not recommend.

Food was great. The ambiance and service was just ok. I am used to going to many omakase restaurants and I feel like the chef was really lacking in showmanship.. he seemed a little brusque and unfriendly. I’m used to the chef having elaborating a bit and also greeting his guests. I also felt a bit rushed .. and I am a fast eater. All in all, will think before returning ..

This place is really really good. Have been twice with my wife. Easily the best Omakase in Chicago. Service and environment are actually friendlier and lighter then many other stuffier Michelin and non Michelin starred Omakase places. They have a really good wine selection. I never found a place I liked chawanmushi before, but here, I order two orders of it. It’s incredible. Everything here is extremely flavorful and fresh. 10/10

The best sushi I’ve ever had in Chicago. I lived in Tokyo and Kyoto for years and really struggle to find authentic, fresh sushi anywhere in the states. BUT Chef Sangae has done it! The tasting menu featured a delicious progression of flavors and the specials were just as good. 10/10. Also, the ambiance and service are impeccable. Obviously it’s a very delicate dining experience. I went alone and it felt very warm, inviting and it was great to watch the Chef work.

Wow! Chef Park is a Michelin Star chef for a reason. The Omakase was out of this world. Best sushi I've ever eaten and the service was top-notch from the moment we entered until the time we left. Other reviewers have said they felt rushed -- I thought the timing and pacing was perfect. Chef Park is a very humble chef and his skills are worthy of the Michelin Star. We will definitely be back again and again and again.

I like how some of these 1 star reviews are from people that are wannabe Gordon Ramsay’s lol. I’ve been to numerous omakase’s and guess what? The chefs don’t talk much like Omakase Yume. For me it was not my first rodeo. I’ve also been to other Michelin restaurants where you don’t even meet the chefs or interact with them. To clarify there were no bugs around the restaurant, no hair in the food, and lastly the server did not rush us or the other couple at all. I just wanted to get some of the facts straight since I have more than 1-3 reviews under my belt.
The restaurant is small so it is limited seating. I was able to converse with the chef and his wife. She was the main server for us. Fish quality was exceptional. You do have the option of adding on extra pieces to your main menu. They’re different prices depending on what they are. Prices are standard and within the usual range for 1 Michelin star restaurants in Chicago. I was here awhile ago but I would go again. I’ll post some accurate pictures so that people can get an idea.

Food was good but at least 4 courses missed the mark and thus made it hard to enjoy spending so much money. The waygu special was over torched and topped with too much wasabi. Mackerel course was the stand out star.
The Experience was the more disappointing part for a supposed Michelin star restaurant. The whole thing was seriously bizarre. No one was talking, not even the chef at any point. The best part of an intimate omakase is hearing about chefs inspiration and stories. This place was devoid of any personality. There was no words spoken to start or end the meal. It felt like an “eat and gtfo kind of place”
No bathroom... really? I went to the restaurant next door for the bathroom, clearly affiliated with Yume, and wish I had eaten there instead for a fraction of the price and a landslide better atmosphere. Tengoku was lively and fun.
What really tipped me over the edge was that the woman next to me was served a special course that was not on the menu. Even tho all the other guests were fawning over it as chef prepared, he never said a peep about it and never offered it to anyone else. Sat it down, walked out and we never saw him again. Checks came and we all left in silence without even being thanked or wished well.
Ultimately it just felt like a place to drop money and no one actually cared about anyone. Truly disappointed after spending $450 after tip..

nice night out with my bf, we dressed up nice for the occasion (and while i know it isn’t a requirement, it’s really a bummer when the other two couples in the reservation time slot were dressed like total scrubs 😖).
cute small intimate space, with 6 total spaces per reservation.
the food was incredible. maybe the best sushi i’ve had in Chicago.
two things as a negative (aside from the aforementioned attire issue):
1.) it is a pet peeve of mine when a michelin-starred place charges extra for sparkling water… it’s a friggin’ bottle of san pellegrino for god’s sake, especially based on the price of the tasting menu. ridiculous.
2.) it would have been nice if the chef at least introduced himself. i don’t need a copious amount of chit chat, but at least a welcome or something. the only thing i heard from him was the name of each fish when he plated them in front of each couple.
but the fish made up for the negatives. 🤌🏽

Decent omakase sushi, but not outstanding or excellent. I liked isaki as the best. Tuna is from Spain so they are oily for my taste. Katuo was good. Shari size was right amount, vinegar was good. Lack of hikarimono like Kohada, Iwashi, Aji stands out as my disappointment. Wagyu sushi is extra option, and wagyu sushi is no where close to Edomae tradition. In Tokyo edomae sushi, wagyu sushi is against our tradition and even disrespectful. Service was very good. So my rating here is 3 stars.

First time experiencing Omakase Yume and left so happy. The space is intimate but the food has a ton of flavor. They do three seatings a night so it might feel like it goes quick but they pack a ton of great dishes into that time. Watching each dish be prepared adds to the great experience but on top of that the service is attentive. I couldn't recommend this place more.

My first traditional Omakase, and it was wonderful. Definitely in one of my top 5 meals in Chicago ever. The menu is set, but you can optionally purchase specials. We added the Uni, Ikura, and Numoguro... all amazing. Best Ikura I've ever had. The raw sweet shrimp might be unusual to some, but it was delightfully oceany and a unique texture. It's very unique having such an intimate experience. The fish was all so fresh. I wouldn't recommend to sushi noobies, but if you are slightly adventurous and want to feel like you're in Japan... come here! Reservations were hard. They only serve 12 people a night, so we booked 2 months in advanced to get in on a Tuesday

Best experience I’ve had so far in Chicago’s omakase scene. The quality is outstanding, Kate our server was phenomenal, easy to work with, educated us on everything. I wish we could interact more with Chef, but it is a quiet experience.
Wagyu as an extra is worth it. Kampachi is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted.

This was a really nice experience. However I do have a few comments:
- For this level of service, and most importantly being a Japanese restaurant- I like that Omakase usually include tip. This was not the case here, which I often find a little confusing.
- While the quality was good, I am not sure this Omakase was worth $225 per person...
- The toilets are really not great, especially for this level of experience...

My husband made a reservation for dinner at 5pm on 03/15/23. He made a mistake and he reserved only 1 seat but of course we both showed up. The lady told us because of mistake she cannot do anything for us and my husband will be charge $250 if he leaves. Well, we would like to eat dinner together and definitely we don't want to be charged the fee, we were told that there is no other option for us either my husband stays by himself and eat or he leaves and will pay the fee.
We left, very disappointed 😞 They have a sister restaurant next door they could have done something for us. No apology, no compassion, no willingness to come up with any solution.
Horrible experience! and $250 fee later we went home.
I'll never go to this restaurant ever!

This place warmed my heart.
For an omakase restaurant - which is a genre that is going through a lot of hype, it holds a humble and very authentic identity. The interior is simple and the plates aren't there to be striking. But they also aren't charging you a premium for that either.
Our host/server was knowledgeable, kind and just as humble and calm as chef Park. It's no surprise that the host has been there for years - they both fit the atmosphere so, so well. No doubt it played a great role in their Michelin accomplishment.
Throughout the course, chef Park reflected both conservative/traditional sushi genre while at times throwing curveballs. There are little nods to traditions, modern twists and even to his Korean roots.
SPECIALS on the menu:
Yes, wagyu is there and it's cool BUT PLEASE try asking them if they received anything particularly exciting that week. I know the Japanese fish names are confusing and that you won't likely be ordering random pieces. BUT DO ASK - you will get some phenomenal recommendations and the interesting flavors will give you a far more memorable experience.
Also, if you happen to be skeptical of uni (sea urchin) -THIS IS THE PLACE TO TRY (and one of very few places) where you will change your mind. How do I say... They have the good stuff here. It's a pro move to order uni from places like this and show restraint at other places that don't fly stuff on weekly bases, as they really don't sit well.
Thank you chef Park and the kind staff member at Omakase Yume, for the lovely experience, eye-opening food and especially for answering ALL my nerdy food questions throughout the evening with much care and patience.

Hands down the best omakase we've had in Chicago or anywhere else for that matter. Truly exceptional flavor in every single dish with an overall menu that is just about beyond reproach. (There was only a single piece—just one—that didn't wow me and even then, it was bad or anything).
Interior is very intimate and the vibe is very quiet. A little livelier and it'd be just about perfect for me but, hey, it's not all about me.
If you're looking for a first-class sushi dinner, this is the spot for you. We're already trying to figure out when to go back!

From the start I’d like to say that I understand that this is your business model, but your seatings are waaaay too fast. If I am spending over $700 for a dinner for two I am not looking for a “quickie” but rather for some kind of experience. You out of all the places should understand this. But an omakase that lasts exactly one hour and twenty minutes feels very rushed and under appreciated. I counted six seats at your restaurant, that means you’re looking for an exclusive and personal vibe, which you will never achieve with your quick service.

Food: great but I guess I am too spoiled with abundance of sushi, nigiri and sashimi back home. It was not mind blowing, but it was indeed very tasty and exquisite nigiris (can'trecall ifnee got any sushi actually). 4/5
Vibe: It is a very small (only 6 seats!) place where you can enjoy your sushi in quiet. But it may also feel a bit odd given how small it is and you will sit next to strangers. This is not unusual from many places I have been in Japan, so I think they tried to follow this and please be aware of this. 4/5
Service: well, you essencially sit at a bar table and you focus on the chef who prepares and serves the food for you accoridng to the Omakase menu of the day. Other engagement is rather limited because it is not neccesary. I don't know if it is "scorable".
Cultaral specifics / tips: do note that unlike authentic Japanese, this restaurant adopts North American standart to take tips. In Japan, giving a tip is offensive to a waiter and a chef. This was a cultural faux for me when the restaurant collected a 20% tip. They did not demand it, but they assumed it is 20% when I left the tip area on the bill blank. They charged my card after I left under assuming I intended to leave tips. For record, they also returned it without fuss when I questioned such an act of charging tips (or any other charges for that matter) on a customer card when the person is not at the restaurant anymore. This left a bitter aftertaste. Again, it depends on your expectation: I thought this is a Japanese restaurant that tries to give you a flavour of the Japanese culture while physically staying in Chicago. That experience goes beyond food and decorations. 2/5 from me for that
3/5 overall.

Really nice little omakase place for dining serving only 6 seats per seating. This offer a very close feeling among friends dining there. Food is good. The value and quality of food is great considering the price fewer than $200. I recommend it to anyone wants a quite dining place and wish to bond closely. This place also offers a buyout option but the price per person would be around $250. You may consider it for team bonding event.

Omakase Yume created a wonderful evening out. As we walked in to this tiny restaurant that initially appears plain and unfinished, we were rapidly welcomed and seated at the pre-assigned seats with our names. The simplicity rapidly translated into easily accessible close-up experience of Sushi with beautiful presentation, tasteful menu and presentation, and wonderful service. There are some add-on options, and I recommend to try them, even though the Wagyu experience was not the highlight of the visit. I think it's just fun to complete the experience at this unique place with some options that don't add significantly to the final cost. I truly enjoyed the experience, and hope to come back.

Omakase that made me leave with mixed feelings. On one hand, the fish quality was quite high and the rice was cooked perfectly to my taste, with noticeable amount of vinegar which did not overpower the fish flavor. On the other hand, I would describe the experience as quite “commercial”. There are three sittings of two hours, which means the chef is really rushed to serve the courses: fish is pre cut and all the courses are made for all the guests at the same time. They don’t tell you where the fish is from and the interaction with the chef is extremely limited in general. We ended up eating 15 courses in under 70 minutes, which felt way too fast paced and didn’t allow me to appreciate the flavor of each piece to the full extent. In terms of style the omakase was much more on the contemporary side. There were a lot of modern combinations, some of which were interesting but some used quite blunt flavor combinations often encountered in Nobu style restaurants. The service was attentive but didn’t feel particularly warm.

Great experience! Hard to compare to anything since I’ve never had similar food in my life, but just about every course of the tasting menu was excellent.

Elegant, clean and very expensive. This place earned it's Michelin star for a reason and it's not for wow baming your senses. Flavors are fresh, subtle and thoughtful. The environment is soothing and service is quiet.

1 Michael star place what else to say

This is the best sushi I have ever had. I've eaten sushi in a number of coastal places, Florida, the Bahamas, Hawaii, California, this is the best I've had. Chef Sangtae Park puts so much love into his craft that it's literally an artform.
The experience is intimate (8 seats I think) and is all about the chef and the sushi (but not in a pretentious way). The chef won't speak much, but he'll put some of the best sushi in the world in front of you to enjoy and all I could keep saying was thank you.
I believe this is the best sushi in the city at the time of writing this.

Incredible experience and insane tastes! Everything was so fresh and new. Definitely would go again! The Lady was very helpful in asking questions and explaining what went into everything. 10/10 loved the experience

Absolutely best sushi of my life. A must do in Chicago

Omg! Super fresh ingredients, and very tasty. We enjoyed every single course. It was such a great experience! However, the chef did not cut the fish in front of us like other omakase restaurants. But still, the fish and shrimp were so delicious! We enjoyed it so much!

Amazingly fresh sushi. The most Covid safe indoor dining possible.

Wonderful pace and presentation for an Omakase.

I never write restaurant reviews but this place is so good I had to write one for them. The sushi here is second to none, they have perfected the rolls they offer. The miso soup was some of the best I've ever had. The man who served me was attentive and friendly without being annoying. With so many restaurants in Chicago closing permanently due to the financial strain caused by the governor's executive orders it would make me very sad to see this one go too.

Ordered take out for the first time from a Michelin star restaurant. Everything taste great! The reason for not giving a five star is because I think they should use a better to-go box instead of plastic.

Delightful in every way. Very inviting quiet restaurant for serious food but in no way stuffy. The progression of dishes is outstanding and the presentation of each course is sublime. Small but outstanding champagne, wine and sake list. Really outstanding omakase - understated but profound

With initial good press being reinforced with a Michelin star, Omakase Yume has been on our 2020 must visit restaurants. We finally made it after the restaurant indoor dining reopening.
Wow did it meet our expectations. The fish was amazing, each bite a wonderful balance of flavors - if forced to pick favorites would be a tie between Sea Bass and the Chutoro but each bite was truly special. The non-nigiri dishes were also fantastic: amazingly delicate miso soup, delicious black cod and and fabulous panna cotta to wrap it up. We added Aji (chef’s recommendation) and Wagyu (because...Wagyu) to the tasting menu and would recommend both. Didn’t try it but saw an order of the foie gras plated and were immediately envious!
The experience is faster than originally envisioned. Tough to give the full artistry and adhere to the 90 minute regulation. They did an excellent job balancing speed with presentation - only miss out on watching exquisite knife work.
We will definitely go back!

This was my first Omakase experience ever, and Yume has set a really high bar for me. The course, service, and ambience were all near perfection.

Way too fast tempo. I noticed a table came in late so the chef just jammed three pieces at one time as they just arrived.
Presliced fish for kicking you out faster.
Overcooked wagyu.
Ebi was torched, and once I had a taste I knew it’s not that fresh anymore.
Chef does not tell you where his fish come from and how they lived their fish lives before.
Mediocre omakase for a city that doesn’t really have omakase choices!
Pros:
Is omakase.
Some interesting combinations such as sesame oil on kanpachi (but nothing stands out really).
Chef gives me a lot of ginger

The best take out experience during the Covid close down. Don’t be fooled with the single item option on a menu- you will have a chance to experience the fresh and well paired seafood options in one bowl. Miso would was fantastic as well. Highly recommended.

UPDATE: what the restaurant replied here does not match what the receptionist was insisting when we called. We indicated that one of us were not feeling well and the person making reservation ONE MONTH agao, only got a reminder text 1.5 hour before the cancellation deadline but was only able to call after busy workday, thus missing an hour into the 48 hour policy. All they said was we can't give exception to everyone because already many people are cancelling. And they were like: "If you can't make it because of unexpected situation, it is *YOUR RESPONSIBILITY* to find other customers to come and dine in instead." This is ridiculous and reflects poorly on the core value of this restaurants and how they treat their customers.
So OMAKSA YUME, either you do what you claim in your reply below consistently or you ADMIT that there is a mistake when you handled our call.
As a responsible person, let me give you some suggestions:
1. Have a better understanding that people have job and they don't work like restaurants hours where you can check text every minute during a work day.
2. Go have your reservation app send out reminder texts at least one day ahead of your deadline like all other restaurant does, and then you have a better ground to ask people to "notify" you as soon as possible when their plans change.
3. When you have chance to provide good customer service, DO IT RIGHT THEN, don't come back and try to sugar coat with lies to fix the situation because you are worried that an angry review might make you look bad.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Had a reservation made 1 month ago and we wanted to cancel our reservation due to the current pandemic situation. But they insist on charging the cancellation fee even though it has only been 1 hour into the 48 hour policy. Things move so rapidly recently, and many people are gett anxious, even banks are giving grace periods to loans and stuf.. But it seems like all this business cared about, is getting their money. They were like "we can not give exception to everyone", well what kind of exception have you given then? For the short term, yes it will let you make that free money but you are losing many long term businesses. Shame on this business and the owner. I wish you guys go out of business soon and more local and smaller business can get your customers eventually.

Overall, it was very good, but the only thing that was memorable was the matcha panna cotta for dessert. Most of the fish is already precut and the pieces are pretty small so you have to savor each bite. The rice is okay. I wanted to ask for a little more wasabi on my pieces, but it felt awkward to ask since preparation/making the sushi felt like mass producing for everyone at once rather than an individual piece catered to you. Overall, I think it's worth trying at least once, but I'd rather go to other omakases.

Overall good experience and pieces served were good. The menu currently consists mainly of fish nigiris (and in my opinion too many white fish nigiris), at this price point it would make sense to incorporate some more interesting or rare ingredients.

High-quality, well-procured fish. Great attention to the rice. Balanced fish-to-rice ratio. Intimate, zen-like space. Absolutely lovely people. And the best part for us? It’s within walking distance of our home.

Great presentation and food. Wonderful meal. Intimate setting. Bit pricey but worth doing once. Service was wonderful. We were told that it was BYOB, however, were surprised with a $40 corkage fee per bottle on arrival. Would've been nice to know in advance.

What an amazing experience!! Each course was the pure essence of Chef San Tae Park's brilliant imagination for sushi. Such clean and savory flavors and textures of sushi paired with wonderfully clean and fruity saki pairings made this experience totally memorable. I would highly recommend adding Omakase Yume to your foodie bucket list!!!

Chef Park imports fish and ingredients of the highest quality from Japan and creates an Omakase menu that is an absolute masterpiece. By far the best, most original sushi experience in Chicago. Upon entering the restaurant you are immediately teleported to Tokyo. My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon in Japan and Omakase Yume brought many delightful nostalgic memories back with each bite.
