The atmosphere overwhelming, the food disappointing, but on top of that our waiter was inconsiderate. I understand that restaurants run out of items, but for the waiter to act like we should be okay with one of the main ingredients not being there isn’t okay. He told us after he brought it to the table, "by the way it’s vegetarian because we ran out of pork belly" then left. He didn’t even offer to replace it, discount it, or make sure we were okay with it. My partner had to ask. With how well this sushi spot is recommended I expected better.

The maki rolls were delicious and the sashimi tasted very fresh. Also was impressed by the sauce on the edamame. Definitely was a little on pricier side, but for good sashimi it was worth it. I’d come back for more of the rolls for sure. Our server was very kind and patient as well. Staff was friendly.

Favorite sushi place in town! We like pieces over rolls, and this is the only place outside of a full on omakase tasting menu where you can get such nice quality. (Although they do offer omakase and I highly recommend it) The smoked pieces are wonderful, the king and queen are 2 or my favorite bites anywhere, and all of the specialty nigiri are next level.

As we arrived at Juno we were initially impressed by the modern and quiet entrance- but upon closer inspection it lacked attention to detail and seemed unmaintained. For instance the paint had went around the exit sign missing a section of the wall, the matcha whisks (used as an art installation) had just been stuck on the wall with tack so many had fallen off leaving behind sticky white circles. Despite this less than inviting entrance I was excited to begin my dinner with a drink.

While the decor hinted at a focus on matcha, the drink menu lacked any such options. The sake selection, while decent, was pricey, even by the glass, with the cheapest starting at $11/ $12.

The modern theme continued into the main dining area, but unfortunately, the volume was an assault to the senses. The excessive noise level made conversation difficult, even with our attentive waitress. Thankfully, her service was a bright spot. She was helpful, offered insightful suggestions, and ensured we were well taken care of throughout the evening.

The food itself was good, but not exceptional. The salmon nigiri stood out - perfectly warm rice, melt-in-your-mouth salmon, and a delightful touch of garlic. However, the portion size left something to be desired. The recommended “Amish chicken meatballs” felt confusing. Their salty soy sauce glaze clashed with Italian cuisine and Amish roots— this just felt out of place.

The food delivery was also disappointing. My hand roll arrived first, leaving my partner with nothing to eat. By the time his rolls arrived, I had finished mine, resulting in an awkward, staggered dining experience.

Overall, Juno didn't quite live up to the price point. While the service was commendable, the incohesive decor, excessive noise level, and uneven food delivery detracted from the experience. With a few adjustments, Juno has the potential to be a great restaurant, but for now, I'd recommend exploring other options for a more refined and enjoyable dining experience.

I love Juno! I’ve been twice now. Just to be safe I recommend always making a reservation in advance. I’ve had mostly good service, a little slow one time but was fine. The sushi quality is spectacular at this price point. How much you spend per person on dinner can be really varied based on your selection. You could order lots of specialty nigiri etc and rack up a bill quickly or you could flip towards the back of the menu and just focus on ordering rolls/maki and those prices to quantity of sushi is very good. I wouldn’t do omakase here, I haven’t before but it just isn’t that kind of restaurant imo - lots of omakase options elsewhere.

Cocktails are great too. Basically if you want a more affordable meal - order rolls and beers and you’ll find a great value. Or splurge, tons of yummy small bites if you’re not price conscious. My splurge dinner for 2 was ~$250 and for my “cheaper” dinner was like $120 for 2.

My family and I are major Sushi lovers. We enjoy trying new spots and this week it was Juno. We heard they had creative takes on their nigiri and were not disappointed. I especially enjoyed the smoked specialty rolls, I have never had anything quite like it. The presentation was unique. My favorite roll was the Crisp Sake. The extra crunch was delightful. They also have all of the usual suspects, from the unagi trio to salmon, tuna and scallop. but make sure you try the chef’s special creations, all are delicious, though I must point out they are small for the price. Overall, I would come again and be a little more focused with my selections.

Sushi is good but not that great. The sake is overcharged a lot - an ordinary sake was charged multiple times more than the market(60 vs 20). I know its normal the restaurant over charge the alchohol but this much is too much and it's close to cheating. The gyoza tastes weird and the seared scallop was really so so

They also have a small selection of Mocktails, all were tasty, but the Blueberry was my favorite. My partner did the 3 sake flight, which pairs with select servings. Our server, who walked us through all the dishes, was wonderful. Overall a very fun and delightful night.

The sushi was just okay, and I wouldn't recommend it as the best place for premium sushi. Also, the restaurant was very noisy and crowded. We were squeezed in between customers and people passing by frequently. However, the part I didn't enjoy the most was the staff's behavior when we received the check. They mistakenly gave me someone else's bill and complained, questioning why I didn't leave a tip. They started complaining and embarrassing me in front of my husband. It got worse when they made side homophobic comment. It wasn't until I realized the bill was for the wrong table and I told them about it. The staff didn't apologize for giving us the wrong bill and left us. I would not recommend this place.

Incredibly underwhelming service. The sushi was just ok for the price. The atmosphere feels like the dining room from beetle juice. No one seemed all that concerned with making the experience memorable for my husband's birthday. We got several excuses from management and our server for why the service was an after thought. I don't want to hear that you're "a server down" or "in the weeds" as someone who is about to spend over $200 on sushi. We had omakase and some bites, as they would call it, were better than others. They included sashimi, nigiri, one hand roll, ny strip (didn’t even understand why that was part of the menu), and dessert. The wait between each bite took longer than a typical omakase restaurant. It took us roughly two hours to receive all our bites. The bites were also smaller, but that’s what they were aiming for. They wanted each piece to be one bite, but I’m sure we can all handle a bigger piece in one bite. We went on a Friday evening. As the small restaurant got crowded, the louder it got. It was very difficult to hear the person in front of me. I also had to talk at a high volume to get my friend to hear me. 20% gratuity was added to our bill even though it was just the two of us. The service was good, but our waitress was busy and didn’t get a chance to check on us like she said she would when we first sat down.

Fish is fresh but the experience is not Omakase and def nowhere close to authentic Japanese experience. Service is decent as well but 20% added default gratuity is a bit much as there was quite a wait time between different courses (varied between 1 to 20 mins). Sake choices are nice. If you are going for a fusion experience, you can try this place out but def not going back for Omakase.

Visited 2 years ago

Sushi Experience №63

Came here for Omakase. Wrong choice. This is not the place for Omakase. Not a traditional intimate Omakase setting and the food is ok at best. Some kind of fusion dishes as first few courses, but nothing special. The fish is fresh, but the sushi rice is hard , and not properly balanced with soy sauce and wasabi. Quite disappointing. The service is not good either, at times we waited for 20 minutes between courses. Won’t be back.

We Called Juno to make a reservation, the woman said no reservation was needed for 730 , arrived and the manager woman sat us at the bar to wait for a table, when the table was available, she sat us in the bar ( behind where we sat at the bar) we requested to sit in the area in back, being it was our first time there, and she told me I needed a reservation, I responded and said well I called you and you told me on the phone no reservation necessary, I was quite upset because other people just walking in off the street without a reservation were seated in the nicer dining area. I’ve never been treated like this in any other restaurant, and I’ve been to hundreds of restaurants. Her demeanor was extremely unprofessional, especially for a manager and I have never been treated in that manner. I started to walk in the area in the dining area and she’s so much stopped me to ask like where I’m going and I said I’ve never been here before and I’d like to go look and see the dining area and we would like to sit there she was strongly against us, sitting back there. Unbelievable

This is the best sushi I've ever had. Now was it perfect, no. Some pieces had way too much wasabi, the structure of some of the nigiri fell apart but these are nit picking.

Decor/atmosphere: 4.1/5 (perfect lighting, dark enough to be intimate but light enough to see everything. The sushi bar was very impressive.)
Apps: 4.9/5 (the seaweed salad, edamame and broccolini were amazing)
Main: 4.8/5 (ordered every piece of nigiri they had, was great. The wasabi roe was very strong)
Service: 4/5 (service was a little slow)
Drinks/selection: 4/5 (small selection of sake and Japanese whiskey)
Value: 4.4/5 (the food was incredible but it was a touch expensive but you could tell that expense went to high quality ingredients)
Overall: 4.8/5

I would greatly recommend

Sushi Experience №77

Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. First, the environment is loud. Tables are placed close to each other. The front desk lady led us to the table by the ally, and as far as I remember, we were the only 2 sitting that spot. For the whole time, we were worried people passing might hit us by accident.

Second, the food was just average. Small amount, thin cut sashimi. They just reached the basic requirement of fresh ingredients, nothing more.

Third, the service was bad too. Front desk lady not friendly, very cold face. The waitress not professional either. The most ridiculous thing is that they chased us out and accused us for not giving tips while it was not our bill at all, and they never apologized to us for that mistake, it completely ruined our night.

Not recommend if you want to experience good food, service.

My partner and I had dinner here and were pretty disappointed with the experience. We had been looking forward to the meal all evening and pored over the menu before we arrived. We ordered the chefs special sashimi along with some smoked hamachi and a few appetizers.

The appetizers were the best flavors of the meal, but were one or two bites each. The smoked hamachi was also tasty but seemed like it was targeted towards presenting it in a way that would look cool on instagram as opposed to being really flavorful. The smoke flavor overwhelmed any taste of the fish you were eating.

We figured the 16 piece sashimi would be enough to serve as a main course, but the sashimi was sliced thinner than any sushi I have ever had. I've eaten at sushi restaurants in this price range before, and I have never gotten so little fish per piece. The fish itself was delicious, but it felt more like eating deli meat because the slices were so thin. We did not order dessert because we were so disappointed by our meal.

For an almost $200 meal, the flavors and portions felt very underwhelming. You can find sushi of this quality elsewhere in the city for half the price. We finished our meal still starving and picked up take out on the way home, which ended up being the best thing we ate that evening because we could savor more than one bite of food per dish.

If you're looking for a fine dining experience that looks good on social media with a hefty bill to impress your date, this place will serve you well. If you actually want to eat some sushi, keep looking

First, I want to say the quality, taste, timing, and plating of the omakase experience were fantastic. Unfortunately, I felt inclined to write this review for folks who have food allergies. I clearly told the wait staff that I have allergies to egg and dairy. Halfway through, I was served nigiri with mayo and steak with a cream sauce. I informed the staff of these plates, and then felt my throat swelling as I realized one of the earlier plates must have had dairy or eggs in it. Luckily I was OK and didn't need to take emergency action, but I was suprised to receive a full bill passed to us, and no manager came to check on us after the mistakes. After calling the manager over to let him know of the mistakes and the throat swelling I was experiencing, he took one of our drinks off and gave us the family and friends 10% discount. Quite frankly, for a potentially lethal mistake such as this, I thought this was the least they could do. I also didn't appreciate how the wait staff blamed the chef for this - each person serving me should have checked my plate before giving it to me, and it's their duty to remind the chef and work as a team.

I want to warn folks that if you have food allergies, you should be careful about going to Juno. Once again the food was fantastic, and I would recommend those who don't have allergies to go, but please be careful and check each plate if you do have allergies!

Since reading good reviews about this restaurant, I booked a table for four. I had 3 special guests arrive from overseas and thought this was something we could all enjoy. I was wrong.

Aside from the fish being fresh and the so-so service, the rolls are small, sushi pieces are tiny and sashimi slices are thin. Everything is small compared to normal sizes you'd find elsewhere. Many middle of nowhere sushi restaurants in Milwaukee would have given more generous amounts of fish.

The worst part is there is no way a table of four could come out satisfied with these portion sizes. We aren't big eaters and often think steak houses give too big a portion. However, this is the complete opposite. Can one imagine spending $380 plus proper tip, but coming out hungry? I have never felt more ripped off and think this is borderline legal scam. How they can pull this off in Chicago, the 3rd biggest city in the US is beyond comprehension.

And for one reviewer to say those of us critical of this place have no clue how high-end sushi restaurants operate, I will counter that. I'm an Asian who have travelled to Japan, Taiwan and Thailand on several occasions. I've been to several different sushi restaurants in the US and Canada. I know how big each piece of sushi or sashimi are prepared. Even in Japan, where portion sizes are deemed smaller than in the West, each piece of sushi or slice of sashimi are easily double in size. This place is a legal scam; saying otherwise would be lying to potential customers.

If I had dined as a regular patron this restaurant would have received 5 stars. The food, service, and vibes were all great. However, we made a reservation for omakase and it was terrible. The restaurant was extremely hectic and busy, it felt like our omakase experience was put on the back burner so the rest of the patrons could be taken care of. We were here for over 2 hours, some courses took as long as 20 minutes to get to us.

I don't even think what we experienced could be considered omakase. Our orders seemed to be prepared by whatever chef was available at the time and then delivered to us by whatever staff member was walking by the serving area. Our orders were dropped off to us, explained to us in one breath, and then the server would disappear. The encounter was so quick that we didn't fully get the chance to process what we were eating. Some of the bites were great, some were questionable. We were served a tough steak and burnt tamago.

For two people, one cocktail each, and no additional food we paid almost $400. I know some omakase experiences can last a few hours but so many people were apologizing to us for the wait that it was clear they didn't expect our experience to last 2+ hours. We had tickets for a concert afterwards but we were running too late and were too tired to go.

It was a holiday weekend so these may have been unusual circumstances. Unfortunately it seemed like they chose to sacrifice our experience so they could cram in as many walk-in diners as possible.

We had our first omakase experience here, and it definitely wasn’t a good one. For $125 per person, the amount of food from ALL eleven courses was extremely underwhelming.

We showed up on time, but there was no table available for our reservation. Then we were sit at the sushi bar where the whole meal was dragged out unnecessarily long. We felt like the courses didn’t really follow a natural “flow” but rather just had someone looked at us and marked us as “finished course #5, wait 17 minutes until course #6, etc.”

The dishes were good for the most part, but we could’ve ordered twice the amount for probably half the price had we not chosen the omakase option. That, on top of having to sit at the sushi bar, we didn’t even get offered a single free drink as an apology for our inconvenience.

Overall, we just felt like we weren’t getting the service that was supposed to be worth its listed price. So if you wanna visit Juno, would we recommend trying the sushi? Yes, absolutely. But the omakase? Nope.

It’s fresh but the fish couldn’t be cut thinner, so quite expensive for very little food. Kind of insulting. We also waited for about an hour for our food next to the drafty front door during winter- not a great experience.

My one star rating has nothing to do with the food, since I never got to taste it. They forgot to bring it out. We were a party of four, and each of the other people in the party got their meal at a separate time, so we did not get to eat dinner together. To add insult to injury, we had to wait 15 minutes to pay the bill. In sum, the service was abysmal.

Sushi Experience №133

We thought the food here was very very good and appropriate for the price. The Juno Queen and the smoked dishes were especially exceptional. Also, the rice here is just really really well done

Our server was very nice but we couldn't get anyone to clear our drink cups throughout the meal which was a bit strange (we had like 5 cups/cans that need to be cleared on a small 2 person table and it took about an hour and half to clear the drinks once we were clearly done). Also some of the food came out a bit slowly toward the end of the night. We were ready to be done in about 2 hours but ended up waiting about another thirty minutes for four pieces of Nigri to come out after most of the restaurant had cleared out. Finally we had a weird snafu where the restaurant lost our signed receipt so we had to resign which was odd. All in all service was ok but certainly not exceptional.

Our total with food, a couple drinks, and an app came out to 195 with tax and tip and we left pretty full.

Simply…spectacular! The master chef was in and we could get the omakase. I can only present you pictures of every dish, but I can assured you that every single piece was perfect. The waiter was knowledgeable, welcoming, warm. The dining room was quite and comfortable. The chef was working in the open kitchen as if he were in Tokyo or Kyoto. Another perfect night to celebrate life and love.

Amazing quality sushi, unique dishes and great service. The nigiri was SO small, though. I felt like I had to order SO many to be full, compared to most places. I ordered a hand roll and a sushi roll after, which were filling. Amount of food was definitely lacking, even compared to comparable pricey sushi restaurants. Maybe would go back!

For the record, the Chefs and cooks are what makes this place remotely worth it. Our waitress was good too.

We went to Juno to celebrate my wife’s Birthday and I must say that it wasn’t the experience I had hoped for.  I did note in the reservation what we were celebrating.

When we arrived we were promptly seated at a section of tables where nobody else was seated and we soon learned why that likely was.  There was about 3 or 4 feet of walking room between the tables and the bar, and this is where all of the employees walked from out of the kitchen.  My wife was almost flicked with the dirty cloths hanging from their waists a few times….on her Birthday. It took more than 15 minutes to be acknowledged, and it ONLY happened because I got up to ask one of the hostesses myself if we could move to one of the tables against the wall as there were two open tables side by side.  I honestly didn’t expect anything special for mentioning that it was my wife’s Birthday, but I didn’t expect to get seated at the reject tables either.

Nonetheless they didn’t acknowledge her Birthday either. Other places usually have written “Happy Bday” on the receipt which we always smile at. We are a younger looking couple, and it definitely made us feel like we didn’t fit their preferred demographic.

The food was absolutely delicious, and amazing. I have never had such fresh and flavorful sashimi and I offer my greatest compliments to the chefs.  The Miso soup was tasty, and smoked himachi was great! I absolutely loved the spicy octopus hand roll too.  The drinks were also just as well prepared and delicious!  The food really carries this place and it’s the only reason it receives 3 stars instead of 1-2 due to our experience.

The sushi here is top tier! My boyfriend and I went to celebrate him passing the CPA exam and it was a great experience. I can recommend the chef’s special nigiri, tuna trio, and the spicy tuna hand roll! All were delicious and our server, Grace, was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, even with many tables.
As far as prices go, I fully believe the quality of the fish is worth the price. I have been to more “casual” sushi spots where they give you a huge piece of fish on the nigiri and it seems like a steal, but then you eat it and you can tell the quality is off. It is true the portions at Juno are a bit on the smaller side comparatively, but you can taste the freshness and the quality in every bite.
The restaurant has a very comfortable yet upscale ambience. The coat check was a nice touch!
A bonus to my experience: the server told us after the couple at the table next to us left that they had overheard that my boyfriend had passed the exam, and already paid for a large portion of our meal! If you are reading this- thank you!

Absolutely fabulous, truly. I'm so happy I didn't pay attention to the critical reviews (sorry folks you have no clue on high end sushi based on those comments).

I've been visiting upscale sushi spots for over a decade across SoCal, NYC, and Japan. This is by far one of my favorite, and I'm definitely coming back.

On top of the perfectly seasoned selections which were completely melt in your mouth, the service provided by Patrick G was top notch, friendly, and made us feel like long time customers.

We were a bit concerned bringing our infant with us however, it was no issue. Everyone was so kind and helpful, even the floor manager/hostess came by several times to say hi to her and interact.

There's also a very uncommon Japanese beer (in the US) they're carrying which was the perfect smooth balance with the meal.

Can't wait to be back again!

Juno has ruined my ability to eat at almost all other sushi restaurants. The fish is so fresh and their signature Creations are so flavorful that I'm disappointed with sushi anywhere else I go now. The first time I went here I found myself thinking about the nigiri flavors days later while I was at my office trying to work. If you are looking for large amounts of sushi at low prices you'll definitely be unhappy here. But if you are willing to spend to get extraordinary flavors you will be very happy.

Yes it can be over priced ($110pp)and I can attest to the portions being small. I do have to say that the ambience is very tranquil and the attention to detail is remarkable! We came here for my friend’s birthday and it ended up as a terrible experience.
1) food was mediocre. We ordered grilled octopus and it was completely burnt (looks burnt & tastes bitter)
2) there was nothing special for a birthday dinner. I told the host that we are celebrating, and she only responded “we don’t do anything for birthdays”. We didn’t even get a kind “happy birthday” greeting to the table.
3) They OVER CHARGED my credit card. The dinner was supposed to be ~$70/pp (already overpriced, considering the quality of the food). But we ended up being charged $149/pp - they thought we were gonna give $80 tip each??? No way. This is a total fraud.

In short, DO NOT COME TO JUNO.

Ruined the birthday and wasted my money.

Sushi Experience №175

Don’t recommend this place at all, especially for celebration.

Portion was so small for all appetizers and hot food we ordered. And the octopus was completely over cooked, it was burnt.

We were there to celebrate a birthday, and the host told us they didn’t do anything special for birthday in a unfriendly way.

Finally, they over charged my card for double the amount I put down. I wouldn’t even notice if I didn’t randomly checked my bank app.

Sushi Experience №179

Very disappointing experience for a special occasion with family. We ordered these items.

Grilled octopus, toro tartare, chef’s choice sashimi, chef’s choice nigiri, ceviche signature maki, crisp sake signature maki, 4 pieces of otoro nigiri.

The toro tartare although unique, the portions were tiny and the serving method was not the most practical. Fish quality was okay.

Grill octopus had great grill flavor but over seasoned and again portion was nothing to rave for.

Chef’s choice sashimi and nigiri was where I was very disappointed. Again the small size was an issue. Plus, with variety of sashimi, my understanding has been the size of the cut depended on the uniqueness of the fish. I’m not sure what I chewed or ate since there was no flavor and content. At one point my girlfriend asked for the salmon sashimi and I couldn’t tell which piece was the salmon...that’s how thin and small the cuts were...for a chef’s choice? Very sad.

The special makis were okay, unique fashion flavors, again nothing to rave for.

Finally the 4 pieces of Otoro nigiri were ordered because...we needed more food. What a mistake we made. An item that’s sold per piece at $11, I didn’t think I’d be eating mostly rice and barely any fish.

All in all, I don’t know what the quality of Juno was prior to the pandemic, but for a restaurant that’s on many food blog’s top chicago sushi restaurant, it definitely did not make my top list. We came to Juno with lots of excitement and high expectations, but we left with confusion, disappointment and a dissatisfied bellies.

In a taste test, I tried this among several other well known and well respected sushi purveyors. In that test you have the ability to notice subtle differences, even in the quality and cook of the rice. You notice the balance and ratios of differing ingredients, do they blend well, is something too overpowering. This was unanimously the most well received. You could pick almost any roll and it would taste amazing. The homemade soy sauce is unbelievable. Every roll we got was immediately recognizable as of higher quality and structure. Not too much rice or anything, you could say the rolls were “perfectly balanced, as all things should be.” A clear winner in the Chicago sushi taste test among many of my sushi loving friends and family.

EDIT: Dine in service was rough. Also, they have maybe 5 different expensive rolls. While they are very good and unique, the selection is abysmal. If you've gone once, you've tried everything already. Considering my other take out sushi options have a much bigger variety and room for improvement and cheaper, this restaurant, for me, has been removed from my favorites list. It is good, but you will not get full here (insert America portions joke). You will buy more of the same rolls given a lack of variety, spend a fortune to not be satisfied, and really wonder why you would come back after the first visit. Plus tax and tip for 4 small, 6 piece rolls, your looking at $100. It's very good, not that good though.

Friendly service, great selection of drinks and excellent nigiri. The signature nigiri pieces are especially tasty - like what you would get during an omakase experience but you get to pick every piece (and ones you really love you can have more of). The uni shooters are delish and refreshing too. Can’t wait to go back!

Food for tiny people! While this restaurant has a very interesting menu that offers great flavor, the portion sizes are just insulting. Probably the smallest nigiri pieces I’ve seen in my life, I almost had to laugh when they brought out the plate. Even the spicy tuna roll was the smallest roll I have ever seen. Again, really tasty, but finished this roll in seconds and was still hungry at the end of the meal. We decided to get pizza after our 1.5 hour meal here. Service was great however and very friendly.

Website pictures are misleading. The food absolutely doesn’t look like what is advertised.

Food: meh. Decent fish. Bad sushi rice. Nigiri are priced individually, and microscopic in size. It would cost hundreds of dollars per person to be satisfied.

Service leaves a lot to be desired. Our food and drinks were forgotten, and server disappeared for more than half an hour. Manager had no idea how to manage our complaint.

Very tourist trap experience overall. Poor experience, would not return, cannot recommend.
