Hands down my favorite sushi spot around! Everything we ordered was beautifully plated. The salmon flight is my favorite plate. Every bite is an explosion of flavor! But the reality is, I can say that about everything we ordered. Not to mention how attentive the staff is. Highly recommend for sure!

This was my wife's and I first time ordering from this restaurant and this is the reason why I'm giving a 1 star. We have always wanted to try sushi and this is our second time doing so. Our order took 2hrs! The food was great though! Until I found a hair on my food!

First time at Yellowtail and I had quite a mixed experience. The food itself was very good and the fish was incredibly fresh, although I was hoping that the portions of the rolls especially for the price were a little larger. As a sushi place, I could definitely see myself coming back as I felt like they had a great menu!

However, I came with a group of 6, and it took a long time to get our order in. After we ordered, it took 50 minutes for the first plate of food to hit our table and around 60 minutes before all our food was here. The food took so long that some of us ended up walking over to a nearby taco place to get a quick bite. I might put it down to the fact that they were busier than usual but I’ve also never waited so long for food in my life.

I’ll definitely be giving it another try maybe at a less busy time!

A solid sushi spot in the heart of Lakeview. We were expecting a quiet sushi bar, but the restaurant turned out to be a modern dining space with uptempo music in the background. The seats in the back room had a pretty intimate atmosphere.

The selection of rolls and nigiri was extensive. The Uni Otoro, Koshou Madai, and Seared Salmon Belly nigiri stood out for their freshness and unique flavor combinations. A minor note is that the sushi rice tasted a bit dry and was a bit lacking in the rice vinegar flavor.

Several rolls were excellent, especially the Hotate and Yellowtail Maki. The Furemingu Maki was more average.

Overall, a great dining experience, though the prices leaned towards the higher side, averaging close to $75/person.

It’s popular place in this east lake view area. It’s asian food with sushi dishes. i ordered more on sushi and seafood because i m a sushi lover but i would say it just fine. All staff are helpful and great. It’s kinda cool place to hang out and it’s BYOB.

A fantastic ambiance with EXCELLENT sushi! I am a big Sashimi person, but I decided to get some rolls instead this visit and I was very pleased! We loved the music, staff, overall vibe, and the accommodations for my gluten allergy. I highly recommend getting on the wait-list, or making a reservation before enjoy a delightful meal!

This is the best spot for sushi in the city. Anytime there's anything worth celebrating reservation is booked and we are there. In total probably about 6 times in the last year. Everytime has been amazing the servers have made our nights with kindness and timeliness on everything. BYOB selection is always on point if I do say so myself. Salmon flight is a staple we get everytime. And literally everything on the menu is perfection down to the spicy miso soup. I really like that they have menus over QR codes as well it looks great and it's easier to go through imo

& as soon as I step to the restaurant I meet 1 glass wearing Asia guy, he was so rude even to reply hello, after I received our food I ask him to use rest room & he say it's closed they are cleaning it, with a rude voice! it was around 8:00 pm so I knew that was a lie!!
Never order from this place again or Visit! I have to hold my pee for the next 15 min & drive!!!!

The sushi was fine, wasn’t the best. It took about 40 minutes to get our sushi, which was ok, but when the server brought our rolls out, they told me that they had actually ran out of one of the rolls I had ordered. It was too late at this point to order anything else and the staff was hovering around waiting to clean tables so I ate the half I got and picked up the rest of my dinner elsewhere.

Made a 6:30 reservation, didn’t seat us until 6:55. After ordering, sushi didn’t come for well over an hour and a half. It tasted fine but we were over the experience. Any acknowledgement (apology, comped appetizer, etc) would have been nice for the lack of respect for wasting our time

Food, atmosphere and service is good overall.
They don't accept tap payments. I had to go back to fetch a card from my home to pay them. They wouldn't agree to get paid via zelle or make any alternative arrangement. I think the manager lacked empathy and spoiled the entire experience. Our server was great and the food is awesome.

One of the best sushi spots in Chicago, with reasonable prices and a BYOB policy that make it a great value. They do both more traditional nigiri and fun American style specialty rolls well. We had an awesome bluefin tuna sampler. Champagne is a classic pairing with sushi so take advantage of that BYOB policy by stopping at the nearby Binny's and grab some sparkling wine beforehand.

Really disappointed with our first visit. Made a 7:30 reservation a week in advance and arrived 10 minutes early. Host told us our table had just paid their check and would be ready for us in 5-10 minutes. By 7:45, still no table. The host told us it looked like the table still had a little wine left, so it could be another 15-20 minutes. And that sushi orders were taking “about an hour” anyway. We were dining before an event that began at 9:30 and needed to leave shortly after 9:00, so by this point we wouldn’t have time to eat anyway. A well-managed restaurant would invite the lingering table to finish their drink at the bar in order to honor other reservations. Instead, this joke of a place left us without a place to eat on a Friday night. Definitely won’t try again after this experience.

Bento box was just the stir fry (steamed, mostly peppers) with a sushi’s roll. Got the teriyaki salmon medium, it was charred and uncooked.

Horrible service. They seem to refuse to pause the delivery apps making customers and delivery drivers wait for 45mins or longer after pick up time, for just a single roll and some miso soup, one of the restaurant packers said they were 100 orders deep.

I also overheard one of the hosts tell all the delivery guys they needed to wait outside for orders and inside was for customer only. Extremely degrading and disgusting practices.

The owner didn't seem to care at all about delivery drivers, nor their staff, if they were that slammed with orders. One of the drivers even mentioned that he's talked to the owner, and they told them before that, "if the drivers don't want to wait, he doesn't care just tell them to cancel." Which they get no money for. On Valentines Day when they were going to be busy.

In the owners response they want to act like I was a driver which I clearly stated I wasn’t, again 100 orders deep is insane especially when you are saying yourself that you have a small space. Stop forcing employees to keep the apps on when you can’t fully fill the orders in a a timely manner. And saying since Covid you have had this policy is a ridiculous excuse. Grow up be responsible and treat your staff and drivers that keep your business alive with respect. And stop forcing them to stretch your small space beyond the means. I’m sure the even that chefs are stressed and it’s ridiculous. What you’re doing?

Was very disappointed in the portion size and quality of the sushi rolls that we received. First, these were the smallest sized rolls we have ever had! See the photos...I used a quarter and the sauce cups they provided for reference. We ordered 4 rolls, 1 Maki, and crab rangoon for $70 and we felt like we just paid $70 for a kids meal! Second, the quality of the food was sub par compared to other sushi spots in the city. The food was not worth $70.

Nice choice for sushi in lakeview. BYOB restaurants usually are hole in the walls, and don’t have much in terms of ambiance. Yellowtail is an exception. Plenty of space and the back room in particular had a marvelous vibe.

Solid sushi as well. The garlic edamame is a must try appetizer. Pungent, but certainly delicious. Service was helpful but could have been a tad more attentive. I’ll be back!

My all time favorite sushi spot in all of Chicago!!! Yellowtail has a huge menu of options making it so that there’s something for everyone. The sushi is the best I’ve had in the city. It’s not only delicious but presented beautifully. I’ve also had several of their apps and have even managed to leave room for dessert and everything, even outside their sushi, is incredible. Yellowtail is also BYOB making this a more affordable sushi restaurant. The atmosphere is casual but intimate enough for a date night or fun night out with friends. I’ve taken so many out of town guests here and all have LOVED it. Even my friend from San Francisco who is a bit of a sushi snob. 100/10 would recommend! It won’t disappoint!!

The food was very good and reasonably priced. My problem was with the service and tight tables. Our table was very close to the next table. We literally had to keep apologizing to our neighbors for bumping each other.

The service was the biggest disappointment. When we arrived at 5:45 the place was almost empty. We had to ask three times for wine glasses for our BYOB wine. Then, we ordered the bento box special and the dumpling appetizer. The appetizers arrived after 15 minutes, followed by the soup. Then we didn't see the server again until 6:40 with the main course. We never received our salad and had to ask for the check immediately as we had a 7 pm show.

Again, the food was great. The service was very disappointing.

Showed up to pick up my order at the time that was listed on the order. Was told by the front desk that it would be 10 minutes. Food didn’t come until 20 minutes later. No apology, no make-good offer. Drove home and my order was missing an entire entree. Don’t order from Yellowtail on Sunday night. And check your orders before you leave, even if it’s stapled shut.

Have driven by and worked Security by this place many times. Went and had many things on the menu and everything was outstanding including the service and the manager was great too. We just realized that Yellowtail is above the rest of the sushi places. The food couldn't have tasted any better and we had many things on the menu. This is a well-deserved five out of five star rating. Everything including the atmosphere and service and food was just outstanding.

Yellowtail offers a selection of fresh and delectable sushi . The ambiance is vibrant with music; however, at times, it can be quite loud, which may not be to everyone's taste.

Despite having a reservation for our son's birthday celebration, we experienced an unexpected wait of nearly 45 minutes. Even though we promptly selected our dishes, we found ourselves waiting for our food for over half an hour (almost 40 mins for all sushi rolls). This did impact our overall dining experience negatively.

While we have enjoyed Yellow Tail Sushi on previous visits and want to continue supporting them, this particular experience was less than satisfactory. We definitely not coming back back and hope they can improve their service efficiency in the future.

Yellow Tail Sushi and Asian Kitchen is a hidden gem in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. The food was pretty under whelming. I ordered the crispy rice with spicy tuna and the rice was so over fried that it taste burnt and it was too hard to bite into. The rice used for the sushi tasted old and like grocery store sushi rice. The jalapeño bomb was not good. Some of the tuna on it was diced and some were very large uneven chunks. There was also way too much cream cheese. One thing that I was happy with was the shrimp shumai, that was delicious. Everything else was not worth eating.

A fantastic ambiance with EXCELLENT sushi! I am a big Sashimi person, but I decided to get some rolls instead this visit and I was very pleased! We loved the music, staff, overall vibe, and the accommodations for my gluten allergy. I highly recommend getting on the wait-list, or making a reservation before enjoy a delightful meal!

Loved this place. Another Chicago recommendation we kept getting from people and it didn’t disappoint!

The BYOB aspect is always great and the food was seriously amazing. The steamed dumplings were such a simple starter that ended up being so yummy we got another order. And then came my favorite piece of sushi I’ve ever had… the truffle nigiri. Oh. My. God. That might be one of the best things I’ve tasted EVER.

Overall, YUM. Great service, definitely make a reservation because it gets busy. But 10/10 recommend.

It’s BYOB!! Which is the best in my opinion.

We went here on Friday night with a group of 9 people. Our bill with tip came out to $23 a person!! Could not believe it and we were all very full!
You have to get the dragon roll it’s amazing. Sea weed salad was great plus the pot stickers, which you can never go wrong with.

There is an crocking fee for only $3 which again is worth it! Would go back any day. Perfect for a large groups of people

While it seemed that Kat was taking care of the entire inside and outside seating when I got there, I was happy with the service I got! She gave some very tasty suggestions that I don't remember the names of, but I toroughly enjoyed!
Everything was fresh and very well paired in both of the rolls that I had. Highly recommend.

Found a review that said this was the best sushi in Chicago for its price. We decided to go, and (I know my experience of sushi has been limited to gorging myself on it from Eastern Wisconsin, but) this was the best sushi I've ever had in my life. The tuna I had was so fresh it melted in my mouth.

Also my friend with us has celiacs, and the kitchen was able to take a note and prepare her entire meal with gluten free recipes. My friend ordered the same roll as me, but mine came with fried ingredients while hers didn't. That was great.

Yellowtail is a great Friday night choice. We brought our own white wine, and opted for the spicy edamame (A+) and the Fire Dragon Roll (A+). Not the best sushi place I’ve ever been to, but extremely good for the price and ambiance. Staff is very attentive, and if the weather is nice they open the front windows. Would come back!

They made great rolls and the BYOB is perfect. Appetizers were very small so I'd say you should skip that and just get sushi.

As much as I love their food, the customer service was horrible. At first they canceled our reservation 18 hrs before it. I understand everything happens but why not to offer something complementary?!
Then I visited them another time and the only seating they could offer for a single visitor was their “bar” with 6 seats, the hostess kept telling me 5 more minutes until I waited for almost an hour. People who came in couples after were seated almost right away or with a slight wait.
The manager of the restaurant never approached me even though I asked for it

Yellowtail is what happens when a restaurant focuses more on their appearance than on their food. Any sushi lover knows the best marker for the skill of the chef is the quality of the sushi rice… let’s just say Yellowtail misses that mark. Their chicken teriyaki tastes and looks like it’s off the miscellaneous section of a Chinese menu. Do yourself a favor and walk a block south to Sumo Sushi for a higher quality, more affordable meal.

We have always pass this restaurant when walking around this area but really never really take notice of it. We stopped by two weeks ago since my wife have a taste for sushi. We were seated in the back area which is too dark but they have groovy music and a big projection screen with jelly fish swimming. Alise our server was very nice. We told her that we are trying to catch a movie and in a hurry. The sushi came fast and the hot food we ordered was piping hot. I had the sweet and sour chicken and spicy tuna rolls. It was good! We came by again last Wednesday and Janine our server was also amazing. This time we got seated in the front. Atmosphere was busy since it was really nice outside. People buzzing everywhere. I ordered the same food and it was good! Flavor was consistent. Service was consistent. A little gem on Lakeview. Try it out!

This sushi literally saved my life. I went here on July 3rd 2021 and was so dehydrated I felt like I was going to be sick and pass out. The wait staff was extremely attentive, served us quickly, got my blood sugar back up and made sure my water was always full. Best sushi of my life. I thought that might have been a one time affair, but nope. I came here April 28th 2022 and it was so amazing again. It wasn’t my delirium that made me think it was an amazing time, it simply was well made, well educated food. Jiro would dream of this sushi.

The sushi is really good. I went here a few times and the prices are fair since you get some good quality sushi. However the most recent time I ordered takeout, I noticed a piece of lobster shell in 2 of my sushi rolls. Thankfully I noticed it after fully chewing the roll but no big deal, stuff happens. Then I had another piece of my sushi with some glass or some sort of transparent plastic in it and the same for the piece after that. That was the last straw but I didnt want to leave a bad review prior to letting the restaurant manager know. I emailed them, followed up with management, but no response. I really liked this place but after that incident and the management team not responding, I wanted to let people know. Be careful getting sushi from here

We got carry out for Valentine’s Day and boy was that a mistake. Honestly the food is good, and they have awesome deals but my experience just picking up my food was horrible. I get that it’s a busy day, and I’ve been in the industry and it can be stressful! But my food was supposed to be ready at 7:37. I come at that exact time and was told come back in 25 minutes. I don’t have a car so I walked around and then get back there around 8:15. The lady at the front (tall woman with short blonde hair) was being so rude! I asked if my food was ready. Without her even checking she said no. I asked her when and she never gave me an answer but said “are you serious look around you it’s busy” and rolled her eyes. She then told everyone to wait in their car which majority of people didn’t have and was so rude to everyone in general. It did kind of ruined my Valentine’s Day as it took so long to get the food and I was treated poorly. It was my first time going there and probably my last solely because of how I was treated.

My favorite sushi place in Chicago by far. Been coming for years and I always make sure to tell people this is my favorite sushi spot in Chicago. Unfortunately when I went there tonight, we had a reservation for 2 and waited for over 30 minutes to be seated. This in itself was annoying but especially excuse couples that came in after us were seated before us and once we were finally escorted to our table no one acknowledged or apologized for the 30+ minute wait. After we finished eating, we did stay for a bit longer talking over wine and our waitress made it clear she wanted us to leave by bringing us the bill right away and asking if she could take our soy sauce and everything off the table and stopped by a few times asking if there was anything else we needed. It was a bit rude because we thought after being seated so late we shouldn’t also be rushed out. They were close to closing but there were also at least 5 other couple still there.

Whomever was the host around 5:00 on this date was fantastic. She was kind, warm and helpful. It was refreshing to be able to make a reservation over the phone rather than online.

Walked in and put my name in for a table of 3. I got in the system and was quoted 25 minutes. 40 minutes later, I return with my group asking for an update. I'm told it will be another 20 minutes. Meanwhile other people have walked into the restaurant and been sat without an issue.

The waitress then said that she "can't keep track of the times and when things are available" and told me to wait. My party then decided to wait and we left to go hang out somewhere else since there is no space to wait inside.

The hostess then takes my party off the list. I go back and ask what happened and she said that "I left" (I had already done this for the first wait) so she took me off the list. And when I asked to be put back on. She told me it would be another 30 minutes.

What a sad excuse for a restaurant staff. Avoid if possible.

Food took unacceptably long. Long wait to be seated as well. Good food not worth the wait! Very crowded and loud. Once you sit I recommend you don’t move an inch!The fat lady with all the make up makes your pick up experience a drag because it seems she hates pick ups, deliveries and especially the drivers.

I've lived and worked in Japan for several years, this place is overpriced for the quality of food. We dined in a long while ago, and were unimpressed by not just the sushi, but the whole lot. The miso soup was bland and pretty much only soup, very little tofu or nori. That's unacceptable especially when you charge $4 for it. Miso soup should honestly be free, and it confuses me how they messed it up so badly. The sushi was okay, but not worth the cost. There are better places within walking distance. I recommend Sakae.
