Hing Kee is a family owned restaurant located in Chicago's Chinatown. Since 2007, we have been striving to bring Chicago the best handmade soup dumplings, traditional pulled noodles, and authentic Cantonese food.
Have visited multiple times, love this place for their affordable and delicious soup dumplings. A few times the dumplings break easily at the bottom but for the price, flavor, and quantity, I am overall satisfied with what I got. Some of my favorites other than the soup dumpling are their hand- pulled noodles (have tried ox tail, braised beef, bbq duck, dan dan etc) and spicy salt & pepper calamari. This place is usually very busy with long line, so good idea to be there a bit early to get on the list, before you walk around in Chinatown

We waited over half an hour, but the waitress was quite nice and friendly.
Nonetheless, the food was not as good as their service though. The pork and crab meat soup dumplings didn’t have any crab flavor at all. If I’d ordered regular pork dumplings, they’d be okay, but we specifically ordered the crab one, so it was a bit disappointed. The short ribs’ flavor was fine, but they were tough and hard to chew. Chinese broccoli was though, hard to go wrong with that.

My family and I enjoyed the food here A LOT! Everything was very flavorful and exquisite. The soup dumplings were outstanding, that's what I came for, but the fried rice and the meat with Chinese broccoli were also outstanding.
I'm giving it 4 stars just because the first time we came here the food was average, and we only returned because we wanted my parents to try the soup dumplings, and I was gratefully surprised. I'll go back and update my review if the food keeps being that good.

I honestly come here twice a month. It’s consistent and my guests always love it. The service is quick the portions are enough to have some to take home.
The only advice I can offer is the wait/queue. She will always tell you 10-15 minutes but it could be 5-30.

No wait time for us only bc we just so happen to come in at the right times but it does get very busy in the evenings as we seen ppl waiting to be seated. Other then that, definitely will be back!

I ordered some take out yesterday
and start walking out of the restaurant with my bag. I remembered running out of soy sauce at home so I go back to the girl at the cashier and she says out loud “oh my god”, totally annoyed I had walked back for “something” without even knowing what I was there for. It was upsetting. Food had a piece of shell and was icky. Not worth the price for the service either. Never coming back.

No-fuss place to get excellent xiaolongbao, with that developed broth flavor you can't get anywhere else. Complaints about the bottom of the dumpling are off to me -- it's a soup spoon operation anyways and you need to open the dumpling to sip the soup first.
Other standards on the menu are good. It's quintessential Chicago Chinatown.

soup dumplings were delicious! other items on the menu were so-so. we ordered the crab rangoons and pan fried veggie dumplings as well but both of these things fell a little short. the crab rangoons were very salty and had onion in them. ordered a green milk tea and was brought what was very obviously black milk tea but told that it was green tea so 🤷♀️
overall, soup dumplings were very yummy but everything else was nothing special.

Extremely rude and weird after asking to switch watery drinks, they could have just said no. Instead they charged us for even the drinks they took away from us and when asked about it they all but pushed us out of the restaurant while we were packing up. Being obnoxious and repeating bye bye sarcastically over and over and snatching the table cover off over our laps while gathering our things to leave

I was originally introduced to Hing Kee back in November of 2024, it is now December 2024. In one month, I have been to Hing Kee three times because it hits the spot each time. I even tell other people about it and have brought them with me. For me, I continue to get the same dish (Pork and Crab Soup Dumplings) and Crispy Shrimp Toast (which is my favorite). Last time I ate inside, I also ordered the Hong Kong Tea (hot). All three items, together, was one of the best meals I've had in Chinatown in quiet some time!

One of the cooks came out of the bathroom with their apron still on. There was a hair in my water when I asked for a new one they came back with another water with a bean sprout in it. After not even watching to drink the water after that I wanted a soda. The waiter never came up to us once we had to always speak up to try and get their attention.

One week ago, I came with my family to eat here, and food at Hing Kee was delicious! However, I was shocked to discover they had added a tip to my card without my authorization. This is extremely dishonest and disappointing. I urge everyone to take a photo of their receipt before leaving. Please be aware and take precautions to protect yourself from this. Or pay cash.

We just had an amazing time here yesterday. Food is soooo good! No nonsense, fuss-free authentic Chinese fare. If you’re confused which place to try first in Chinatown, try this one, you won’t regret it.
We had the Chicken Soup Dumplings and the Schezwan Chicken.
Those dumplings were the best I had in years! Soft, juicy, perfect filling.
The Schezwan chicken was really yummy too, chicken pieces were soft and fresh. Came with a small bowl of rice. Yes, that dish could have been a tad bit hotter when served, but no biggie.
Service was super quick and efficient. The main lady of the restaurant helped usher us into the restaurant, which was such a sweet gesture.
Cannot wait to come back here and gorge on the other delicacies.

Ordered two styles of dumplings, egg drop soup, chow mein and sesame chicken. Both dumplings were excellent! Even though we ordered takeout and the soup dumplings broke trying to remove from the container, they were still tasty and that’s on us for ordering takeout. The soup wasn’t flavorful and neither was the chow mein. The noodles felt pretty oily and cooked unevenly. Sesame chicken left a lot to be desired, very thick batter. Overall, the dumplings were a triumph and I’d go visit in person for the soup dumplings!

We had a great experience at this restaurant and loved the food! Our absolute favorite was the CHICKEN & CABBAGE DUMPLINGS – so delicious! We also ordered the PAN FRIED VEGETABLE POT STICKERS, OX TAIL NOODLE SOUP, and the STIR FRIED PEPPER BEEF FLAT RICE NOODLES, which we enjoyed just as much. The service was nice, though it was a bit busy, and the space is small. One recommendation would be to keep the bathrooms a bit cleaner, as they felt old and slightly unappealing. Overall, though, we enjoyed the meal and will definitely be coming back!

First time here and we're excited about the soup dumplings but they were a let down kept breaking before we could eat them. We ordered a crispy tofu and it was simply grease and soggy. The order of salt and pepper shrimp was bland only got flavor when eating the jalapenos. They add a service charge to the bills and only allow the bill to be split once per table. I wished I was told before hand when I asked for separate bills before we even ordered. The server kept hovering over us which was just an odd feeling as we were eating. The bathrooms were bad that we decided to go to a different place to use the restroom.

I’m so angry and embarrassed by the way they treated me. I asked for a to go box and the check at the end of my meal. The Hispanic busboy was coming to give me the box when the Asian owners yelled at him to come back and not to give it to me until I came up to the counter to pay (I was using Apple Pay). Mind you I was sitting near the window which is opposite from the kitchen where they were. So they yelled and gestured from across the entire restaurant shaking their head no that I couldn’t have the to go box until I came up and paid? Literally having everyone looking. They wanted to treat me like a thief with absolutely no probable cause & the best part… the bill was literally $25 dollars? Lmfao. The busboy looked so embarrassed standing between us looking at me and just shrugged and smiled like he didn’t know what to do so I told him just give me the box which he did. I filled up my to go container and went up to pay. I quickly confronted them and asked did they do that because they expected me not to pay? And for what reason? Weird asl.

Food:
1. Soup Dumpling: 5/5 It has a decent amount of soup and fillings. The dough is a bit thick on the top but overall tasty soup dumplings.
2. Cantonese braised beef hand pulled noodles: 4.5/5. The soup flavor is delicious! The beef is mostly good. But the beef tripe/tendon were hard to chew. Noodle texture is pretty good.
3. Eggplant: DONT try it. The sauce is overly sour. The dish is overly oily.
Their menu selection is huge that means their food is hit or miss. I would recommend the soup dumpling and hand pulled noodles. But they really should narrow down their selections.
Price: 5/5. The price is pretty cheap and the quantity is not bad. (Don’t forget to validate your parking ticket from them)

This restaurant knows how to work dough.
- The xiaolongbao were well-seasoned and had a great texture for the wrapping.
- Shrimp taste and texture really comes through their wontons.
- The hand-pulled noodles were one of the better ones I've had and had a great chew to them. Broth was a bit underseasoned but easily fixed by asking for their delicious chili oil (a good amount of mala and a nice fennel taste). It helps that the noodle dishes are easy on the wallet.
I can't speak for the restaurant's sushi menu (why go to Chinese noodle/dumpling shop for sushi?).

I just bought crab meat dumplings and spicy pork dumplings from them. My God. Crab meat dumplings should have broth inside the dumplings. They should put vegetables underneath the dumplings to prevent it stick to the foil container. I I took the dumpling out , all Broth came out. Also spicy oil pork dumplings all dumpling which they put in a soup container all dumplings skin were broken . 🤦♀️worse is when I call the front, the only answer is I will pass your complaint to the manager, not even want to mark down who is complaining . I guess he thinks I am a liar. So I post the photo out in here.

Ever been to Chinatown Chicago? and If you’re looking for a delicious place to have dinner. You'll know that some of the best food in the city can be found there! On a recent visit, my friends and I stumbled upon Hing Kee. Featuring an impressive selection of Chinese dishes ranging from potstickers and soup dumplings to fried rice and noodle bowls, I was more than impressed with my visit there recently. After taking a seat at this cozy little restaurant on the corner of Wentworth and Archer Avenues, I knew that I had made the right choice! Little did we know that this small little gem was about to have us craving its flavors for days after - every single bite of their signature pork and cabbage dumplings were as tasty as they come! And let me tell you - these dumplings were definitely worth all the hype, my taste buds were absolutely delighted by every bite of these delicious treats. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant until my final bite of scrumptious dumplings - everything was pure bliss. Whether you’re a new with chinese food or relatively connoisseur like me - if you ever find yourself in Chicago be sure to check out Hing Kee for some tasty dishes that won't disappoint! is definitely one place that should not be missed!

This Restaurant Mailed Back My Lost Bag for Free: Amazing customer service and food
I lost my bag at Hing Kee and the manager paid to mail it back to me free of charge. If that doesn't say enough about the customer service of this restaurant, I don't know what will. We ordered soup dumplings, the cumin lamb, and the house fried rice, and all were delicious. We also ordered the sesame chicken, but I wouldn't recommend it because the orange flavor was too strong. We sat outside and the ambiance was nice. Even though they were busy, our food arrived relatively quickly. In all, I was completely blown away by Hing Kee because of their generosity and delicious food.

I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing, because another restaurant was bad too, but the waiters skipped our table multiple times like they didn’t want take our order. This place is for smaller groups of 4 or less; they can accommodate 2-3 tables of 6-7 people, but it’s a small restaurant.
Definitely get the soup dumplings and shrimp toast, if you like a little spiciness, get the wontons in red chili oil. The Dan Dan noodles are pretty good, too.
Service is fast and prices are reasonable.

Great food, but beware the wait. The place is rather small and the lines outside can be huge. Their queueing system of tables is also incredibly primitive.
But after waiting about half an hour, we got to try a variety of foods and loved everything.
We had the Edamame (it was fine), the Potstickers, some Hand Pulled Noodles, a Hot Pot, some Soup Dumplings, and the Chili Chicken.
Although the food was great, I'm not enough of a soup dumpling connoisseur to honestly say that these were better than any of the others we had in Chinatown. So if the wait is too long, I'd check some of the other places out.

The food was okay, and the portions were good. Service was extremely disappointing. I wanted to order an item with a different type of fish, the Unagi Don with salmon instead of eel, which they wouldn't do. That's fine, some places don't do substitutions. I was disappointed but I understand.
I was still really craving sushi rice though, so I asked to order some on the side, which they wouldn't allow me to do. A side of rice is on the menu, just not sushi rice. This has never been a problem at any restaurant I've visited before, there's typically just an upcharge. They simply wouldn't let me order sushi rice on its own. I have no idea why, it seems crazy to me to offer a side of normal rice but to not allow someone to order a specific type of rice.
I decided not to order anything at that point, so I personally can't comment on the food quality. My friends both had udon and said it was alright but it wasn't anything special that they'd go out of their way to come back for.
We didn't really see our waitress much besides the initial interaction. We had to get her attention to ask for a to go container because she didn't come to check on us at all.
The atmosphere was soso, it was pretty noisy. The room isn't too big and the music was rather loud. It might have been better to sit outside but we'd been walking for hours and wanted to cool down a bit. If the weather is nice I'd recommend trying the outdoor seating.

The Dim Sum were very tasty, well balanced in taste and authentic.
We got the Dim Sum with crab and pork, which were our favorites. We also got dim sum with pork and dim sum with pork in Szechuan sauce. The sauce was spicy but not too spiced and good to eat. Next to the dim sum you get Sojasauce mixed with vinegar as it is normal in Asia. Was also well balanced. The interior is ok, could be a little bit more designed.

I found this place while looking for a Din Tai Fung style of menu options but it turned out to be meh.
The quality of ingredients was not the best, I found some bad parts of the chicken in the dumplings which made me stop eating them and everything was a little bit too oily for my taste..
Everything seemed homemade so at least that.. Still a pretty good option if you crave this style of food just don’t expect much if you ve had better somewhere else.
- the soup dumplings didn t have any soup
-the scallion pancakes were too crunchy
-the beef short ribs were so chewy, not tender at all

Nice little Restaurant in the strip mall/shopping area in Chinatown. Had a scallion pancake ordered as an appetizer which was brought out with our ramen dishes - which was fine, I guess - a little oily but I think they're all like that; can definitely taste the scallion. We had the spicy garlic beef ramen and I ordered the pork shop ramen. My pork chop ramen had some of the bone in the breading, which was ok, but would have preferred if it was boneless. Food quality was good. The broth for both was good. The ramen bowl was pretty filling.

The menu has a lot on it but looked at reviews ahead of time and these two items seemed like the restaurant’s most popular and so glad I ordered them! The service was fast, food was great (didn’t love the beef was in the noodles) and the atmosphere was great just a bit crowded. The meal was so affordable too so I definitely recommend!

Great food and great service. My go to here is the noodles with brisket as well as the spicy dumplings. But also the scallions pancake is absolutely delicious. Fried rice is great too.
For drinks you can’t go wrong with the Hong Kong royal tea, so creamy and delicious.

Fast and friendly service.
Not too pricey but that may be because of smaller portions compared to other places in the area. Got 6 entries for avg family of 4 and no leftover.
Ambiance is good and seating is tight
Overall taste is average +
Recommended- Yes.

Lunch was unimpressive, not tasty enough to justify the prices.
These people charged my card for more than the check, The total plus tip was $77 at the restaurant, but my bank charged $85 to my card.
Steer away from this place, they don't deserve your business.

Food is great! 😊 Service could use work! Paper menu should be abolished if you have a QR code.

Great Sichuan options for cold days! The dry chili beef and dumplings in sichuan chili oil were amazing. Scallion pancakes were also great. Prices are more than fair, service is fast and friendly. Only complaint was that we were seated close to the door and there was a slight draft with the cold air.
Kid friendly, cheap prices, satisfying portions. So flavorful!

First time here. Service was quick and friendly. They have a very extensive menu. We ordered the house pho and sesame chicken. Unfortunately they were sold out of pho soup, so we had hot and sour instead. The soup was good and the chicken had a great flavor. We would return again.

Tiny delicious restaurant! Usually a short wait but we'll worth it!

The soup dumplings slammed me against the wall. The Szechuan wontons were great too. My GF was a little unimpressed with the the Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls, but she's biased from growing up with a Viet mom. They were really enjoyable. Come here for the soup dumplings, but their other stuff is great too!

Pleasantly surprised. Service was great and everything we had (egg drop soup, pork soup dumplings, pot stickers and soy beef noodles) was great. We had a party of 4 and it was $45 before gratuity. Outstanding value.

We came to Chinatown to eat at a Chinese restaurant that I visited many years ago but to my surprised it had closed so we went to this establishment after I saw that they had the Salted and peppered eggplant which I remembered from the other restaurant that I really enjoyed sorry to say it wasn't like their dish but it was still good the rest of the food we ordered was little Bland at least my beef fried rice was my girlfriend's General Sal's chicken was very very strong with the orange zest which made it not really enjoyable to eat but the atmosphere and the prices were good

Went here for my son's 16th birthday. The place small and easy going. We were seated pretty quickly though we did have to wait about 10 min for a table, which was not a problem at all. The staff was courteous and the service was fast too. We ordered a beef brisket hand pulled noodles soup which was sooo delicious!! My daughter ordered herself a plate of orange chicken which was just too good to share. I got the honey walnut shrimp.... Now I don't particularly like mayo or walnuts however this is the only place so far where I will make an exception! We also ordered Thai iced tea. Gave the service 4 stars because while my kids and I love to be left alone when we dine out, we needed a member of the staff to come to our table and we felt a little ignored. I'll hand it to them, it was a full house so, it's cool. If you like noodles, sushi, or want some comfort food this is the place to go!

The food is phenomenal. The service is exactly what I would expect it to be. The restaurant looks sharp after the Covid update.

Place was packed so I walked in and got seat at bar. Ordered the honey walnut shrimp. Menu should have instead described it as mayonnaise with shrimp and walnut. I don't like mayonnaise - ESPECIALLY on shrimp, and expressed this to server after flagging her down. She said sorry and walked off. No one, besides in this instance stopped by to see how my food was or if I needed anything else. Not a winner for me for food or service.

Best dumplings & Chinese food in Chicago!

The food is so good, especially the soup dumplings and they have so many options. The place is usually so crowded too. Majority of the staff in my 3 experiences there have been super rude treating my party very carelessly and without any positive attitude almost like we were sheep to be guided, even for getting take out food and kinda impacts the experience of the good food. Also the bubble tea was extremely sweet like drinking sugar, have that in mind if you will order it.

Soup dumplings were a bit above average. Pretty thick dumpling wrapper. Semi hot broth. Lemongrass ginger soy sauce was on point. Nothing to rave about. I buy dumplings just as good in the freezer aisle of Joong Boo honestly (even though it’s a different flavor profile and from a different country, they’re still good or better in terms of quality)

They say you get the best Chinese food where the service is the worst. I did get great food — ordered noodle soup, but the guy working there was very unfriendly.

First time going and unfortunately had a bad experience! Wanted to try because saw ppl said it was good. Dumplings were good but small. Pho was also good and flavorful. the only not good food was lamb skewers don’t order small portion and not good. Rest of the food good would have probably tried again until I was demanded more tip.
The bad experience:
Total was $94 rounding up so I place a $100 bill and was going to wait for the waitress to hand me change to leave $14tip (15%). when the waitress came by to pick up the money she told me oh no the total is $110.92 I questioned her why and she said you have to pay me 18% tip I was shocked and also mad when she said HAVE TO! I asked what do you mean I have to?! She explained that they require every customer to pay minimum of 18% if they don’t want to pay 20% that every restaurant you have to tip 18% now.
I said I didn’t know tip was mandatory everywhere I go it is optional.! Would have left 15% but because she demanded it I said I’m sorry but that is all I have! She walked away had another waiter come by who also demanded I had to pay it. I thought tipping was optional but not in this restaurant.
Menu also does not warn that 18%-20% tip will be automatically charged to total! Like other restaurants do when more than 6ppl. And it was only 3 of us (2 adults 1child) disappointed and definitely did not leave 18% tip when being demanded to!

I hate to give one star but It just wasn't that great we got like 5 or 6 different things and all the food was gross and bland very disappointing 😔 would not return.

Only worth it for the chicken soup dumplings. Overpriced, bland, poorly presented food with the service to match. Food smeared on the floor. Don’t waste your money.

food here altered my brain chemistry — so good for such a reasonable price. Definitely worth the wait. Service was no problem, every time I’ve been there my food has arrived quickly and perfectly.
