This hidden gem was delightful! I would return for the 24k gold roll alone....it was hands down one of the top 5 sushi rolls I've ever eaten. So simple, yet incredibly fresh & delicious, especially with Black tobiko addition. The coconut shrimp, paella fried rice, and spicy shrimp were all amazingly tasty. The service was quite delayed, and it did take a while for everything to come out after ordering, but I'd still return here over & over again for the food experience regardless.

We ate here for the first time on Saturday! Everything tasted so amazing. My favorite was the emerald gyoza and Rama noodles but the crab rangoons was another table favorite.
The vibes were good and our waiter was especially friendly and helpful. I wish I could remember his name! I cannot wait to go back and try more things, and some cocktails, they looked so fun.
Also - I absentmindedly left my phone on the table and they called my sister (who made the reservation) immediately and got it back right away. Truly made my life so much easier and I really appreciate how they went above and beyond!

Excellent dinner and happy hour spot! We enjoyed the happy hour specials, while everything was very good, the chicken wings were spectacular and worth coming back for alone. The white sangria ($7 during happy hour) was light and refreshing. The brisket chow mein was delicious and a generous portion. Service was quick and attentive. Will return!

I walked into this spot and figured I'd try it out. I started my order with a Matchalita which is a Mezcall drink...the presentation made me chuckle 😅. I'm not a tequila drinker thou.
Appetizer I went with the Spicy Crab Rangoon and this right here is pressure ngl...its served with this sweet chili sauce that goes crazy 9.8. Probably one of the best Crab Rangoons I've had frfr. For the main I tried was their General Tso Chicken Sandwich. I think it is one of the most interesting sandwiches I've had. It is a take from the traditional way I've always eaten this meal. It comes with General Tso sauce, lettuce, and tomatoes on a brioche bun. The flavor is there I enjoyed this but my one knock would be more of the Tso sauce before it still an 8.6 for me. I washed the sandwich down with their Osaka old-fashioned which was good too.
Ended the night with a Blueberry-Yuzu Cheesecake. I mess with dessert fr...it is very rich and the tart from blueberries was a great counterbalance for me. 8.8. Customer service was great the entire visit...very friendly and attentive. Overall like this spot i got recommendations on my next trip so I'll be back 8.9.

The beef rib ramen was hugeee and so delicious it was fall off the bone. The paella and tokyo sushi was also rlly good. The staff were so friendly and amazing! If you haven't stopped in yet it's definitely a sign to stop in and give it a try.

There isn’t enough praise in the world that encapsulates this place. Everything here is top tier!! The portion size for the ramen, at that price, is just amazing! Nothing was bad, every meal was bursting with flavor and it brought me a lot of joy. Our server was so great!! I’m taking everyone I know here at least once. It’s on my top spots in Chicago list now!!

Amazing quaint dinner spot in Lakeview with amazing Asian dishes and an extensive cocktail list! The fried soft shell crab sandwiches were such a unique menu item, followed with the delicious bourbon chicken + Mongolian beef. This will definitely be a new spot in my rotation and I can’t wait to explore more of the menu (especially the sushi).

I really want to like this place, but the food just always falls short for me.
The crying tiger steak was funky, and not in a good way. The wings and crab rangoon were o.k., and the mad crabber sushi roll was awful.
However, the cocktails I've had here are solid.
Good luck.

An Asian fusion restaurant drawing on flavors from Chinese, Japanese, and Thai cuisines. It may not be the spot for traditional dishes, but it offers a Western-inspired, modern take on these flavors. The Creamy Mentaiko Pasta was a highlight - rich and cheesy, with a generous portion of shrimp, a large soft-shell crab, and well-seasoned noodles.

We dined at BITES after travelling from Nova Scotia Canada. We did some research on OpenTable prior and picked BITES... great decision! We had to move our reservation twice due to unexpected travel changes, they were very accommodating and sat us no problem. We ate during happy hour, the drinks and apps were amazing and a great price! Chicken wings (garlic chilli) were phenomenal! We also got sushi, it was very fresh and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
The service was also excellent, everyone was very polite. Great portion sizes and a reasonable price, especially during happy hour! Hope to visit again next time we are in Chicago!

Food was fresh, especially the sushi. We liked some of the unique flavors on the salad and edamame. We gave it less stars because the portions were way larger than our server described. We were only 2 people and our single edamame order was well over a pound of edamame and we were sorry to waste it. The same was true about the seaweed salad. We were told it was small by our server so ordered 2 but each salad could have served 3 people. We wish there would have been a choice of sizes like a small or large order of edamame or that our server would have shown us the serving bowls rather than just her hands.

very cute spot for a quick bite (🤣) or cocktails! we stopped here before a concert at the vic theatre, which is very walkable, and were able to catch happy hour (4-6pm i believe) where sake bombs and cocktails were at a lower price. the vibes inside are tropical and cozy. i ordered the 24k roll and duck bun— the bun was a little too saucy and salty imo. the cocktails were great, unique concoctions and not too sweet. (lychee yuzu martini). our server (i believe named keegan?) was very helpful in giving recs and friendly. overall would come back.

Service is excellent here: shout out to Amm who went above and beyond for me! Love the atmosphere, and the menu looks creative and delicious with plenty of vegetarian options. However, if you're hungry and vegan, this place doesn't have much to offer yet as of August 2021, and I hope to see more completely plant-based and vegan "big bites" options on the menu in the future. I ordered the taro fries and avocado tempura bao, both without the aioli, and I thought they were both pretty good for an afternoon snack!
UPDATE 2024: REDEMPTION ARC 🔥🔥🔥 They now have a dedicated vegan/vegetarian menu, and it's both DIVERSE AND EXCEPTIONAL. This menu features more than 2 dozen satisfying items and it's all delicious AF. I had the opportunity to sample a lot of it when I went with friends, and I honestly can't name a favorite dish because they all hit the spot in different ways. There's even dessert! In my opinion, they're now truly one of the best dining experiences in the Northside for vegans and vegetarians. (Bonus points for a dedicated gluten free menu too.)

I just so happened to come across their ad while visiting Chicago and seen the beef short rib ramen and immediately needed to go. It was a great experience. The ramen did not live up to my expectations but it was good. The steak appetizer was superb though. Would I go again? Yes I would. Also was blessed while there with my family. But a pair of stammers did pay our tab and another couple while there. So that was a beautiful surprise.

Dropped by for a small lunch and ordered 2x duck bao, 1x chashu pork bao, and some jasmine green tea.
Service: prompt and helpful. One person was handling service for ~5 different tables, but I never felt rushed or forgotten.
Atmosphere: not bad. Music was a bit loud and the lighting was low deeper into the restaurant, but the place was clean and sitting near a window took care of any lighting qualms. The tropical aesthetic wasn't too over-the-top.
Food: best bao of my life. Soft, squishy buns, fresh veggies, and properly prepared meat that wasn't old, tough, or dry...my only wish is that I could've eaten more. $5-6 a bun makes it easy to try a few different ones - I loved the duck/hoisin combo, but the chashu/peanut/ginger soy combo was just as good. The tea was solid as well, no complaints.
Heartily recommend!

The sushi is great, and so is the spicy Crab Rangoon. My chicken satay was way too salty. My co worker got a chicken sandwich with grilled pineapple, and she sent it back because it was underwhelming. The chicken was overcooked and dry. It also appeared to have been re- cooked or warmed up. Not sure, but a Chef can always tell if the food is fresh or not. Go figure!

A cute place in the east lakeview neighborhood. The restaurant has a nice tropical vibe/decor and lots of variety of dishes. We tried bunch of appetizers. Shishinto peppers were great, loved the softshell crab sliders and the duck bao buns. The only miss for me were the wings as I would’ve liked more flavor to it. But the service and the waitstaff were amazing!!! Highly recommend. I will be back to try their signature rib ramen(our seating neighbor recommended it) and a mentaiko pasta.

The food and drinks here are really good guys. Like really good. My friend and I were having a great time until the end of our experience. We had a 4:30 reservation, for which we were on time for. The host said we could sit at the bar or a table. We chose the bar, as it was nearly empty. Bartender was kind. Halfway through the meal, they ask us to move down a couple seats. “There are people with reservations,” they told us. We were annoyed, as we had one as well, but we went ahead and moved down, which caused by friend to be squished against the wall. After they had us moved, I ordered a drink. Bartender poured it, but then never checked on us again. The bar has started to fill up We wanted to keep ordering and spending money, but about 20 minutes after that, a woman (maybe the manager) told us to leave because of other reservations. I raved about this place to my friend and was so excited for her to try it. I have worked the industry as a server for almost 15 years, so I’m well aware of the need to turn tables and make money…. But we were drinking and spending money and not causing trouble, and were made to feel extremely unwelcome. My friend was so disappointed as this was her first time. For this reason, I will never be back and never recommend this place to anyone. You all lost a would-be regular. It stinks bc I loved this place the first time I came, but never again. Beware yall- get in, sit down, rush through your meal, then hurry up and get out or else they will kick you out. I would give yall zero stars if I could. And that makes me really sad.

Service was a little slow but overall we love BITES so much! It's the cutest place on this stretch and the cocktails are so refreshing and look as good as they taste. This is one of my top casual spots when I want to dine out last minute, or meet friends in this area.
Basil cream mussels are always a hit. Crying tiger is to die for! Soft shell crab sliders creep me out but look like Michelin level food presentation. Patio is fun in the summer but the inside is too cute to pass up.

This is a dope spot in lakeview that has a great vibe, with good cocktails and food. It has a low key vibe but still buzzing on the inside. Service is great and they make you feel right at home once you walk in. Food is good. I think I need to go back and try a few other selections. Tried their signature beef rib ramen and it was good I just might not be the biggest fan of soup type dishes. The rib didn’t have that much flavor to me but was still good ramen. What I loved most was the Smoked brisket chow mein and the Short ribs. They were amazing. We tried their meatballs and I do not recommend them. Completely overcooked. Shrimp wontons were Fire tho!! I will forsure be back to explore their menu more. Definitely check this spot out! Highly Recommended!!

Charming ambiance, great service, and delightful food! 😊
Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.
Our server was helpful, answering my many questions about ingredients. She helped me navigate the menu safely.
We began with taro fries, crab Rangoon, some sushi, and then the amazing spicy-sweet jumbo shrimp wontons. Each was its own unique style and flavor.
We chose the pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. It was my husband's first experience with the dish, and he enjoyed it.
From the drinks to the brilliant dessert, it was a fantastic meal.
Definitely check out the banana Nutella wontons for dessert.
We WILL be coming back.

I’ve been tracking this place more than people were tracking Taylor swifts flight from Japan to the Super Bowl.
You walk in there and it reminds me of a tiki bar, almost like the ghost of the Chicago favorite, Lost Lake, came back reincarnated. The drinks did not disappoint either. They have all the alcoholic beverages but the real gem are the slushies that come with or without alcohol. Really adds to the island feel.
I’ve been on a blissful bao bounty for what seems like forever now. So much so the streets are calling me the Bao Barbarian. I have to say this bundle of baos breaks into a beautiful ballet on my taste buds. The bao balances beautiful notes of freshness you feel you can only get from high quality ingredients.
The place is perfect for quick get together, sit down dinner, or a first date. I felt a lot of first dates around us, the nervous laughter, indecision of another drink, rapid fire of need to know questions and the awkward dance of too little or too much touch was definitely present. So even it goes poorly you got great food fare to prop you up.

My wife showed me this place on sm and I've been wanting to visit since then.
The staff is excellent and accommodating which we noticed and recognized above all.
We started with spicy crab rangoons. Normally, I'm not a crab rangoons guy and find them to be childish dishes. I have taken back that statement since I've had these.
We ordered some cocktails and while I was inebriated enough to not remember which ones exactly, I do remember my wife praising them all I too enjoyed their refreshing taste and great balance (more boozy) and felt my money was worth getting them.
Let's move on to the main course.
I'm going to be very clear here. I am a heavy eater. I can down three Big Macs with a large side of fries and Diet Coke in one sitting.
If you're going to visit this establishment, get the beef rib ramen. If you come here for anything else, especially if our first time, you've made a mistake.
Now, my wife and I each ordered one of these behemoths and I do feel that was a mistake. By the end of the meal, I was almost into a food coma and she could not finish hers. I feel it would have been better if we ordered one beef rib ramen and something else to enjoy.
The ramen was great. Filled with juicy giant rib which by the way caught the attention of everyone around us and the abundant amount of fungi and vegetables along with chewy noodles didn't disappoint. Broth was a little hard to pinpoint as I wanted a but more clear taste and a little saltier than my definition of perfection but didn't ruin the experience.
We didn't get to the dessert menu as by the time I was done, I was sweating from eating and needed a nap.
I can't wait to go back to this place but will have a better game plan to enjoy the full experience and my wife agrees.

Was very busy. Went during Resturant week. The drinks were really good. I got the mad Thai or something like that. The jumbo Shumai which was really good, was fresh and hot. For my entree I got that the burbon honey sesame, it was ok, wasn't a major fan of it. My friend got the pad Thai, and loved it, said it was delicious.
For dessert, I got the black rice pudding. I liked it, I just wish it had more coconut shavings and chia seeds to balance it out. Not too sweet, quite filling. My friend had the lemon lime posset and really enjoyed it,

The food was great, but the service was not. We waited over 10 minutes to even be acknowledged. When we checked in we were told we had to be out in 90 minutes. That's fine but the service was so poor if we took longer than 90 minutes it would be because our drinks took about 15 minutes to get to our table and one specialty drink didn't arrive for another 5 minutes. I noticed our server was doing everything, he was behind the check in desk and basically all over the restaurant while we waited a LONG time for a second round. Eventually I got up and asked where are drinks are. He seemed confused and asked if we wanted another round. I explained we already ordered another round, this really ruined our experience. Seems like they want to save money on servers by doing EVERYTHING themselves. Go on a weekday, they can't seem to handle things when things get busy. Very unorganized. Perhaps they will get the service part together at some point. Good food without good service will eventually keep people away.
SECOND VISIT
Ok, we came back and unfortunately the service was just as bad. Long time to be acknowledged, 3 of us split a picture of sangria and one negroni. Got the sangria but it was at least 20 minutes for the negroni. Turns out the negroni was never even ordered by our server. We sat next to the bar, made no difference. When it finally came we immediately decided to order dinner. What's great food without great service? They need a new updated system. They're riding on the fact they have good food so pack a lot of patience for the very poor service that goes with with your experience here. Bites is no longer my choice in the neighborhood, unless you go when they first open, even then I'm not sure, there appears to be no system here.

I love dining at Bites! The vibe is very welcoming and fun. The staff is excellent and friendly. Food is mostly tapas style, but entrees as well. This time we had the Lava Maki, Coconut Shrimp and Crying Tiger. Of the 3 my favorite was the shrimp. I also ordered a sweet iced tea as a mocktail. It was so delish!

The food was definitely worth every dime spent. It was amazing! I didn't care too much for the seating because it's not private, but it is cozy. The service was great and fast. The food was prepared to perfection, and the short rib bowl is enough to share if you get an appetizer! The sushi and shrimp corn fritter was superb 😋

Expect to wait at least an hour to get your food and to probably sit outside by some heat lamps. Otherwise the food is excellent.

Bites is our place to go when in Chicago. All of their special rolls are just amazing!

First things first - Google has this as “Chinese restaurant” - I would call that incorrect as it is so much more - this is Asian fusion and what an amazing fusion it is.
I have saved this placed and shared it with friends as one of my favorite spots in the area. Absolutely everything about it was fantastic. The place is nicely decorated, good music inside. Service was lovely. Now the food… 🥹 we had the mussels and the fries as appetizers and they were BEYOND delicious. I am absolutely in love with their version of fries and wish I had boxes of them to have as snacks at home. Please order some because they are delicious and different.
We also had some sushi, the peanut noodles with shrimp, and some mix fried rice. The sushi was fresh, a mix of textures and flavor that sang a symphony in my mouth. The noodles were delicious and with giant shrimp, like 20 of them. The rice was amazing in flavor but even more so in the amount of shrimp and meat that was in it - usually fried rice is 90% rice, then a couple of pieces of carrots and pees, plus a couple of little pieces of meat - this one was mostly meats and veggies. Both the noodles and rice were enough to take a whole other meal home each.
We also had a mango slushy and a fancy tea that were superb - especially the slushy which was 100% real mango. For dessert, we had hazelnut banana dumplings are were blown away all over again.
Best meal we have had in a while, will be back very soon and many times more!!

Pathetic service, very unhelpful staff, they kept talking to each other even after seeing people waiting for the service.

Amazing place, amazing food and amazing ambiance... only the minor problem is that there are too many tables for the space, because of which it feels a little congested

I absolutely recommend this place. The food, the vibe and the service was outstanding. We had a shrimp potsticker appetizer which had a spicy topping. It was fresh and amazing. We also had the samurai maki roll. It was also very good. The service was fantastic. Our server made sure to connect with us frequently. I will be back.

We enjoyed this restaurant. We arrived 5:30ish before the crowds. Seated immediately. Welcoming atmosphere and good service. I enjoyed the menu variety. The drink selections are fun. I had the sangria, it was good and not as sweet as I’ve had elsewhere. We had coconut shrimp and crab Rangoon apps, both very good. Entrees included maki (sushi roll), pad Thai with shrimp, Singapore Noodles. The food is beautifully presented and the service warm and efficient.

Came on a Sunday evening for dinner. No long wait. Our server was pleasant. The restaurant is decorated nicely and has great art.
Wanted their most popular dish, the beef rib ramen, but it was sold out.
Ordered the short rib with kimchi fried rice. The short rib literally melted in my mouth! There were a few pieces that were very fatty and required discrete removal from my mouth, which takes the experience down a notch. Also the decorative flower on every plate is a tadbit overkill. But over
all the dish was well prepared and seasoned cohesively.
We also ordered the Smoked Brisket Chow Mein. The brisket was crazy tender and the noodles also melted in our mouth. I liked that dish better than my short rib!
The STAR of the night though, was the soft shell crab sliders that and jumbo shrimp wontons!
I will definitely come back to try more items. I may just do all small plates next time.

Amazing tasting quality food with a nice atmosphere. Service is lacking a little bit probably because of understaffing. We didnt have a reservation and did walk-in on a Friday night. Parking can be a nightmare because theres only paid street parking and no spothero avaliable anywhere near. They were able to accommodate us in the back outdoor patio which was great. Heat lamps definitely work nice. Highly recommend.

My friend and I have been passed this place so many times and finally decided to try it out. It was packed on a Friday night but the wait was not long to be seated or for the food. The entire staff was very tentative and friendly. I got the Satay Chicken Skewers and tried the Jumbo Shrimp Wontons. Both were good and I actually preferred the sauces together. I didnt care for the cucumber salad. They definitely live up to its name whether small or big they bites are filling.
