Probably the best Sushi in CDA and surrounding areas. Compares well to some of the best I’ve had in very high end restaurants in California. Great atmosphere, terrific variety, skilled chefs, nice selection of Japanese dishes and fresh fish.
Friendly staff, but the service has been alternately great and mediocre. This is a small criticism given the outstanding quality of Syringa. Lately, the service has been great!

Came here for a date night and it did not disappoint. The monarch noodles are slightly bland (it’s just ramen in miso broth) but the gyoza and eggs had a ton of flavor.
My California rolls were delicious!
My boyfriend literally couldn’t stop saying how “OMG delicious” his food was. We both ate more than we expected or could honestly 😂 we will def be coming back

My friend and I were excited to have some ramen together. The ramen looked beautiful and the flavor was there, but I couldn’t give this place 5 stars. Our ramen came lukewarm, nearly cold. We got there at 4pm, the place was pretty empty. We asked the waiter to warm our ramen up. He came back with more broth in the bowl, but it was still just lukewarm. We ate our appetizer, pork gyoza and we enjoyed it, but the ramen just doesn’t work when it’s barely heated. We didn’t bother to address it again. Staff was friendly and it got busy shortly after getting there. Maybe another night we’ll have better luck.

All their appetizers were phenomenal, even the octopus pancake. I thought the sushi would of been better, but it does not mean it's bad flavor. All their food is fresh and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. I will try the noodles and other warm dishes next time

Our first time here was fantastic. The tempura was some of the best we've ever had, and we've eaten a lot of tempura. We all enjoyed the rolls we ordered even the one topped with New York steak. I loved the poke, a different flavor than I've had before but an improvement. My family did not like the different flavor of the gyoza. The cauliflower bisque was the real surprise. It sounded a little bland but was over the top delicious, I would order that again. The service was good but as they got busier we waited longer. We weren't offered additional beverages until we were done with the meal and we had to wait to pay the check. Overall a good experience, we would all eat here again.

Every time we go, the hosts are brutal to wait for. Group of 6, but only have tables for 2 or 4 available, “we don't split groups.” Annoying little first impressions because the food is awesome!

Hands down. Best sushi resaturant in CDA. Professional, prompt, and super friendly. You know it's good company when the staff is enthusiastic about their job. And it doesn't lose pace in the offseason. Strange but it seems even better now than during summer? Still just as busy tho. In and seated in less than 8 min. Food arrived less then 15 min after ordering. Rolls were tight and fresh. Wasn't
rushed. Highly reccomend!

Food didn't blow me out of the water. But it wasn't horrible. The scallops appetizer was salty, The sashimi was dry not fresh the bento box was halfway freshly cooked. For having spent 144 before tip I just expected to get more quality then we did.

Was excited to try after reading the positive reviews. Unfortunately I'm afraid most people haven't had good sushi....everything lacked flavor. We had several appetizers, chicken fried rice, ramen, and two rolls of sushi. Tuna didn't taste fresh. Chicken was left off fried rice, they tried to bring out teriyaki chicken to correct. Food delivery time was ok, but service was bad. No water refill, had to ask for more drinks.

Myself (Deaf) and my (also Deaf) girlfriend went here for the first time tonight. This is what greeted us.
Gianna, our server approached our table while we were in the middle of a conversation (glaringly obvious as we’re signing) stands for a moment, and attempts to speak to us. It’s not as though we were merely vocalizing a different language (like Spanish, German, French, etc) we were SIGNING ASL. She made no attempt to communicate better, and rudely left. Bad start.
We flagged her down and ordered some starters. Edamame and gyoza. I ordered a drink.
20 minutes later, the food shows up, I had to remind her to bring the drink.
The food was good, though servings small. We were consistently ignored though the restaurant was not busy (many open tables) finally I asked another server to refill drinks.
When we ordered the main meal, I specifically asked for it not to be served all at once (a small table). This was ignored, and our food order was wrong.
We decided to leave. I asked to cancel the order since they had to remake it anyway. No apologies, nor any attempt to resolve the issue.
Asking for the manager (who was working behind the bar) after making clear my position that I would only pay for what we ate brought more attitude.
Frankly I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Great variety of food, plenty of space, nice service, and (most importantly for me) tasty rolls!!! The green goddess, Hulk and crunchy are so good☺️
Update in 2024: haven’t tried anything else but sushi and can say for certain - eat sushi somewhere else, they are now extremely lame here

Food is excellent, however, was a little bothered by the sushi chef's direct handling of cash wearing the same gloves used to make rolls (ew!). Take the gloves off for a second next time, please!

Food was good (sushi), wait was horrible (over an hour on Tuesday evening) possibly due to understaffing. Staff were kind, helpful and apologetic, with the exception of one man (owner?), who spoke to staff rudely and with attitude in front of customers.

I made reservations for our 42 anniversary, 5:00pm, knowing how busy summer is. We were seated quickly, received water, menus, etc. Our server came but asking if we wanted drinks and or appetizers. We ordered our drinks and food a short time later. I knew our sushi would take time because it is made by hand. The sushi was great and we enjoyed it.
My issue was our server had no personality and seemed like she didn’t want to be there. Also, the front of the house never said anything about our anniversary, even though I did see it noted on the screen when checking in. The server never mentioned it as well.
Like I said, the sushi was good but I will not go back for a “special” dinner. Sad…

We went for my husband’s birthday and we hadn’t been for around 3 years, We were so excited to come back. I even invited my cousin out to try the best sushi in town! I couldn’t have been more disappointed. The menu had way too much on it with pretty much the same things. If a sushi menu is huge, good sign they don’t want to throw out the fish when it goes bad. We got 2 “Billie the kids”, and it was basically a worse quality spider roll. The Wasabi potatoes with sauce tasted like a mushed fry dipped in ketchup, there was nothing special about it. Furthermore, the green beans were way over cooked and shriveled. We called to make a reservation, they said they had an 8:30 open, which made it seem like they were doing us a favor and squeezing us into the schedule, and then when we got there it was not busy at all. Inside the restaurant, there is too much going on with decor, which proved to be an eyesore. That being said the staff was very friendly and apt to help us. The atmosphere was very enjoyable and we felt very welcomed to be there. With a few tweaks to the menu and decor this could really be a 5 star restaurant.

My husband ordered the teriyaki bento box, large portions but the teriyaki didn't taste at all like teriyaki . The beef was chewy and the deep fried chicken was dry inside. We love Syringa! We will be back...but, I'm an honest reviewer!
The service was lackluster. Our server greeted my wife at the door, ask how many and then turned around and walked away....oh, follow you ...lack of communication. Same thing happened several times at our table too... literally walked away when I was in the middle of a sentence. 🤷
We ordered a side salad...a bunch of it was old and wilted. If it was more than 5 bucks, I'd have returned it.
The rest of our food, the Sake Raaka and Poke were great, as expected. My salmon skin hand roll was also good.
Not usual for us to have an issue here, so...it happens.

The food was great no matter how long it took to get it(45min-1hr) although the eel was rather chewy which is a sign that is not fresh. And their water has a weird taste.

Food was really delicious and fresh, only downside was our server. Extremely passive and rude, we also had hair in one of the nigiri and to top that off he ignored us the whole service came over once, gave water to every single table around us but not us when our glasses were empty. We kept looking around for him wanting to order something, walked by our table so quick that I couldn’t even get a word out he did this multiple times. Too bad I would come back but the whole vibe was ruined because of one service

Absolute staple (restaurant) for my family.
*I want to add that the only reason for the lower score on service is due to a mathematically average. Usually, the service is 5 stars! Unfortunately, on this particular visit, it was a 1 star. Sarah is an absolute Rockstar and is typically the server we get, 5 stars!! However, on this visit, we had someone else. Maybe it was an "off night" for our server. I am the first to admit that being a Great server is much harder than people seem to acknowledge. *

Syringa offers an American approach to sushi making. We received decent service, but the food was not great. Spider-Man had extreme amounts of garlic. Music was loud and this was not the experience that most people would be looking for from a sushi restaurant.

We came on a Saturday night excited to try a new sushi spot. Saw some not so great reviews about the sushi making people sick, but decided due to the 4.4 rating we’d try it out. We have a 3 year old that we walked in with. The place didn’t seem busy at all really. There were about 3-4 tables open. She asked if we had a reservation and we said no. She told us it’d be about a 35 min wait, maybe sooner. I came back in around 31 min. And asked how much longer she thought we’d have to wait. She said another 5-10 min. Saw that there were about 3 tables open still…with no one else walking in or visibly waiting. Around 7pm we finally decided to leave since our toddler was starving. Also, didn’t really want to risk getting food poisoning from here. Bummer.

Came in at 7pm. There were seats available at the sushi bar and no less than 5 tables empty. Asked for a sitting of 2 and was told it would be an hour to 1hr 40 min. Understanding there is reservations on a limited amount but this is an issue at this restaurant all the time. Always a hassle to try and eat here. Hope they figure it out.

If you like loud alt rock music while dining in a Japanese restaurant, you might enjoy Syringa. The food is edible. Restrooms are surprisingly clean. Service is ho-hum. There are better places for good miso soup and tempura. But the big draw for Syringa must be the jacked-up music. Some people like that. Me? Not so much.

Syringa is not only one of the best sushi joints in the Panhandle, but in the entire PNW. Classic Japanese dishes are served on the regular and they have a little bit of everything on their menu so even if you don’t like fish you will be able to find something you will enjoy. I can’t compliment the owners and staff on always going above and beyond every time I visit this establishment. They love their locals but still great and treat every customer with kindness. A safe place for every walk of life and if you’re lucky enough to get a seat at the sushi bar you will have a front row seat to witness art in motion.

We arrived right at their opening time of 11:30am today (Friday). We sat in a section toward the back and were greeted with menus pretty promptly. The server took our orders in the order of which we sat ourselves, with the two booths behind us ordering first. We didn’t order anything to drink and were ready with our menu selections on the first time she came around. We placed our order at 11:36. We chose one of our usual Syringa favorites (Spicy Tuna Sashimi), one Steak bento and one Syringa bento. A table of 8 ladies came and sat down next to us after we had put our order in. Our sashimi and soup came out shortly after we ordered. And then we sat and sat and sat with empty plates and empty waters. The two booths behind us got multiple orders of sushi and entrees delivered to their table shortly after they ordered and THEN, she delivered the ENTIRE tables worth of food to the 8 top that ordered well after us (including some bento boxes) and repeatedly walked past our table without saying a word. Forty five minutes into waiting, she came over and refilled our waters but offered no explanation as to where our food was or why is was taking so long. Our bento boxes were delivered to our table, exactly ONE full ticket time hour, after we placed our order. Zero apology, no acknowledgment that clearly a mistake had been made along the way. Nothing. She avoided us. My husband and I were just starting to eat, as every single table around us, including the 8 top that came after us were paying and leaving. Not to mention that the food was blah and underwhelming. We expect that mistakes can and will happen. That’s okay. What’s not okay, is the way the entire situation was, or rather was not handled. Communication is appreciated. We tipped her the 10% that she deserved and are providing the earned review for the experience.

When this was a tiny hole in the wall down the street this was my favorite place in the world. Over the years they have added more restaurants of different flavors and it has just gone downhill.
Service is abysmal. Last couple times I've went in there the wait staff is chatting with each other instead of helping tables. I was told by one of the servers they are purposely understaffed so the staff can make more money.
They use an online reservation system but they don't share that with you, you have to call them. And you may call them for 4 hours straight nobody will answer. But then they will take your information put it in the online registration system and then you'll get a message. How is that efficient? Just put it online so I can reserve a table or not.
Speaking of the phone they never answer it. You literally watch them silence it and put it back in their aprons. They are too concerned with image and not enough with keeping their clientele happy. They live off the fact that they're popular and people will just come back no matter what.
It's hit or miss, but when it's on it's on. The only sushi place better in the area is the yellow house in Hayden.

This used to be one of my favorite sushi places when they first opened several years ago. Today, the sushi is not bad by Idaho standards, but the changes they made to their menu has led me to enjoy the food less. The fried sushi rolls in particular seemed to have more doughy tempura batter this time around (for example). Also, the waitstaff seems to have become worse since my last visit. Our server had trouble remembering items ordered, refilling drinks, and bringing our check.

Ordered the california roll, I ate most of it without noticing anything but after closer inspection my friends and I noticed that the avocado in the roll was almost completely black, I brought this up with my server, she was super sweet about it and took the roll off my bill. I’m just posting this for awareness because this wasn’t okay, and I don’t want anyone or myself getting sick.

We love the sushi at syringa! I just wish when you buy sides of spicy mayo, that they would actually fill it all the way. Theres usually barely any in the little dish and if you ask them to fill it, they charge you for two sides instead of one. That's literally my only complaint. Otherwise it is a fantastic restaurant and the servers are always very friendly.

Hometown favorite for sushi and good bites. Had the wings for an appetizer and they were delicious. Great flavor and meaty, not a small portion either. For dinner had the teriyaki chicken. Great flavor but was served barely warm. Sushi rolls were exceptional. Incredible Hulk, Dragon, and Anchorhouse rolls are delicious and well made. Service was subpar. Waters sat empty for far too long when spending 90+ dollars.

This used to be one of my favorite places to eat in CDA, however I was met the last several times with disrespectfully curt, incompetent, and arrogant service. It will be quite some time before we give syringa another chance. I asked to speak with another staff member so I could clarify a few vague responses to simple questions I asked and was told no, and got hung up on. It is quite unfortunate because the food is deliciously fresh, but, the level of disrespect and disregard is not acceptable in my opinion, and don't worry, I am not a Karen, if I spoke to my customers the way that I was spoken to and treated I would not except them to pay me for my services, let alone return or give me a decent review.

Best Sushi in CDA hands down!
Above is my review from years ago. I used to say Syringa was my favorite restaurant in town. However, I need to adjust my review down after multiple lackluster visits. The food quality has declined and the wait staff is the worst in town. I wouldn’t say this if it was one event with one individual, but unpleasant attitude and actual poor service by much of their staff made me realize it’s part of this company’s culture. Before I experienced the poor service myself, I heard it from others around town and would say, “no - not syringa, that place is great!”. Unfortunately others were correct, this place has gone downhill.

I really wanted to like this place, but it was a huge let down. The service was sad. I waited to be be seated (there was a sign that said to wait) for quite a while even though there were only 3 tables occupied. As a waitress was passing by she asked if I had anyone else coming, when I said it was just me, she rolled her eyes and told me to pick a seat at the bar. The chef was nice but he said he could only take my food order not my drink order. I ordered my food and received before the chef realized I didn't have a drink and waved a waitress over from chatting with her coworkers. I ordered a miso soup that was super bland and barley warm. My rolls fell apart the minute I touched them. The worse was the smoke salmon. It was dry, chunky and tasted like it was beginning to turn. I really wouldn't waste you time and money here.

The most terrible sushi I've ever had. Service was subpar at best. Best part of the experience was the wine and leaving. I am extremely well versed in sushi quality and this missed the mark on a level that I can't even explain. I am currently at a McDonald's drive thru to wash the fish taste out of my mouth.

It was 4:30 pm and the service was the worst I have ever experienced. Food was late and cold. Server was very affluent and did not care a dish was cold and soggy. Will never ever go there again and will never recommend this place to anyone.

Fantastic experience all around. We had a large party of 9. LOTS of food was ordered. We were very impressed by the prompt waitress. She was so on top of things. The food was THE BEST Japanese food I’ve ever had! Flavorful plentiful and just overall perfect. The atmosphere was great. One order was wrong but they promptly fixed it and there was no undue stress. We had a very relaxing and satisfying dinner and will definitely be back! Thank you for having such a great establishment!

We made a reservation 3 weeks before a birthday dinner we wanted to have there. This would've been our first visit. I have to say I was put off by the decor and feel of this restaurant, but what was worse was the horrible table with the worst chairs I have ever sat in. I thought having a reservation that far in advance would've afforded a good table for the four of us. We didn't even order because the waitress acted like we ruined her day for showing up, despite being really nice to her. She slammed the waters cups onto the table and acted put out when I asked for a straw. Then she came back and basically threw the napkins and chop sticks down. We unanimously decided at that point that the food couldn't be good enough to put up with her.

Wonderful and reasonably priced. I take my granddaughter here for a special healthy after school snack.

Everyone automatically goes for the Sushi. Branch out and try everything else. The Duck Tataki is worth the trip alone

Syringa is an enjoyable and good dinning establishment to go to for food! They serve sushi and non-sushi options (perfect if you love fish and the other person going to lunch or dinner with you does not). The food is fresh and tasty for the most part. We did not love the watermelon civche it had a strange texture and super sweet. We love the style of tempura for those style of dishes here; light airy and crispy! The sushi was overall tasty however they did have a spicy wasabi or jalapeño? Sauce on one of the roles that was ridiculously spicy and over the top. The yakitori was great too. We were impressed as the pricing was super good so despite the food oddities we would come back if visiting cda.

Amazing sushi. Not welcoming service. Showed up, hostess acted like my presence was an inconvenience. I think she hates her job. Waiter (Jake) was dope and saved this from a 3 star.

Well this was my first time ever here and I went with a friend who had highly recommend the place, (I usually go to fuki) so I was excited to try a new sushi joint, the place was beautiful and everyone was nice, the server who took our order tho must have been hard of hearing or something because before we even ordered I specifically asked to have my order on a seperate ticket to which she said "yes of course we can do that" so I thought okay cool, so we went on to order I ordered the spicy tuna roll which was $9.00, I also ordered the california roll that was $8.00, the rainbow roll that was $16.00 and a side of miso soup that was $2.00, before taxes those should have come out to about $35, I paid $33.92 before I tipped, didn't think about the math until my friend contacted me asking to see my reciept because she said they had charged her my order as well as charging me for my order, she contacts the resturant to try and get it figured out just for them to say I owe her about $16, I'm not the greatest at math but I know what I ordered and I know it didn't come out to being $50 something, I explained to her what I ordered and the costs and we did the math to realize that the server had actually messed up somewhere because my order should have been that 35 something instead of 33.92, my friend tried to explain this to the manager to which she told her that in that case I owed the resturant money and that they were not going to refund her her money for double charging my order on her ticket, my friend argued with this person all before the manager hung up on her. Needless to say we will not be returning to this place again

Food was great I just didn't order what I thought I did and ordered something nasty. No pictures on menu. And the place is small.

I stopped here on a Saturday around 2 or 3. It's on the smaller side so it was pretty full. I was flying solo so was sat at the bar. Unfortunately it was at the very end of the bar, I felt quite cramped with knick knacks to my right and a person to my left. Besides that it was pretty cool sitting at the bar with a view of the chefs. I also loved just letting them know directly if i wanted anothet dish. The service was fast and to the point, that's fine with me. I got the godzilla roll and the couer d alene roll, I enjoyed both very much. The CDA roll was great with the smoked salmon. I felt the price was pretty fair, 2 rolls and a beer plus tip for $36.

I almost never leave bad reviews, but the hostess forced me to take the time to do so. I walk in and she says “how many”. I say, “one but there is a possibility I might just get an order to go.” There are plenty of tables and bar spaces available. She says “well, I don’t have much seating and we don’t do to go orders on Friday’s”. Seriously??? So I say, “I’ll sit at the bar and just get a to go box.” She says, they can’t do that because “it’s the same thing”. I say, “I’m going to order, I’ll order a drink while I wait, I’ll leave a tip, and I’ll ask for a to go box.” She says , “no they don’t have time for that.” By this time, I’m very agitated and just decide to leave before I cause a scene. The food here is ok, I’ve gotten it plenty in the past. But it’s not worth this type of treatment. Especially when there are other spots in town. NEVER again.

Server was rude and snappy! The sushi was the horrible, to the point that I was very ill after eating it! It was so fishy and the texture was off, we didnt eat more then 1 piece of each of the 3 rolls we ordered!! To top it off, we paid on the app. Offered on receipt as an option for payment so we wouldn't have to deal with the server again, yet she came running out to the parking lot convinced we didn't pay our bill and were running off! Wow, what a terrible experience! 🙄

The food was fantastic. We had yakisoba and shared a roll, both were excellent. It was packed on a Thursday night, with every table full when we walked in around 6 so make a reservation if you can. A full restaurant is usually good news... so we were happy to see it brimming with activity. Our waitress was friendly, very attentive, and prompt. The sushi chefs were heads down working hard, and we overheard one of them stating that he'd worked there for 13 years now! While the neon light dragon over the fireplace was huge and interesting, neon always casts a terrible light and is a big ambiance ding in my book and an interior design no-no. However, this place is a gem, feels local and unique in a good way, and we'll be back whenever we feel like sushi.

Always great sushi and fun environment. It’s very busy in the evenings and my only complaint is there is no where to stand when waiting for a table unless it’s warm out and you can wait outside.
Get here early if you don’t want to wait!

They serve an array of familiar and unique sushi. The unique dishes are good, but are more of a novelty then the tried and true sushi. A great place for adventurous sushi lovers!

This place gets packed so could be a wait (well worth the wait though). I have had sushi from all over the states, and this spot didn't disappoint. It's some of if not the best I have had around here. I ordered four rolls in total: The Godzilla, Green Goblin, Mountain and Anchor House. All was on point looking amazing and tasted delicious. My server was Kristin. I mention her because she had told me she was new, but did a exceptionally good job. She was very friendly, nice, helpful and knowledgeable. She came back and checked on me to see if I needed anything, and topped my water off without me having to ask for more.
Thank you Kristin and the rest of the Syringa staff for not only the top notch service but the amazing food as well.
Overall I give this place 5 out of 5 stars. It checks all the boxes: would I recommend it to a friend, atmosphere, would I come back, etc. The answer is a obvious yes, most definitely. Next time I am looking forward to trying the jalapeno poppers and or June Cleaver roll.

Usually a big fan but we ordered, got food then ordered 2 more simple rolls(california and nigiri), waited 35 minutes and went to ask why the delay and they hadnt even started them and we were running late at that point. Had to get kids snacks cause they were still hungry.

Usually this place is one of my favorites.
Yesterday 3/4/2023, three of us went for an early sushi dinner. We had a variety of rolls. The quality was average, not the best I've had there. That was excusable. What wasn't excusable is that all 3 of us got sick within minutes of leaving the restaurant. I called them later in the evening and the person who answered the phone only offered a "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that", I asked if they wanted to know what rolls we had (so they can try to track down the source of the illness), they didn't seem to care what rolls we had, just thanked me and hung up. No offer to make the situation right, no statement of intent to fix the overall problem in the kitchen to help prevent others from being sick. Beware.
