Double shrimp roll is freaking amazing. The shrimp tempura is so delicious. California roll is a must as well just a classic but a good one. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the other roll but it was also soooo good. I've had sushi here 3 times now and they have always been so good. The atmosphere is peaceful and quite. Lovely decorated. Definitely would recommend.

Amazing customer service. Every single server that was there checked in on us at least once, even if we we're they're table. It's so nice to have a friendly staff. The decor was nice and beautiful. Lobby was cleaned constantly. Had a neat and clean table to sit at as soon as we walked in. A very LARGE menu selection. There is so much to choose from. We got an order of edamame, beef tataki, bonsai tree, California roll, a small tuna poki bowl, hot tea, and 2 chashu ramen s for 60 bucks. That's was a GREAT price for all the food we got. Not only that but the food was out of this world. Every was so soft and melted like butter in your mouth, and I'm not even exaggerating. The sauce on the poki bowl was so yummy! Everything was plated so beautiful and the food came out fairly fast. Although the food didnt take look in the kitchen, everything was still super fresh! Best sushi / ramen place I've had in a while. There are a lot of sushi / ramen places in bosie and if you're looking for one, or are new to the area, this is a great start. I highly recommend this place. Will be my new regular sushi place.

If you like fresh food, great customer service, a beautiful clean environment, fast service, and a good price this is your place!

This place is the bomb. Our group order had appetizers and 12 rolls. The food came out very well timed. The service was amazing!

I would put their sushi quality against any in the treasure valley. We ordered 12 different rolls and we loved all of them. On top of that the price points were great.

They also renovated recently and did an amazing job. The new look totally elevates everything about the place.

If these guys maintain the quality they will be a sushi staple in the treasure valley.

Island has been a longtime favorite for us and since their remodel/expansion, it has been even more welcoming and comfortable than ever. Most recently we went for my nephew’s birthday and the waitress took great care of us despite being a large party with kids. I especially recommend as a place with very good sushi and numerous options for non sushi eaters too!

This place is incredible! Before coming here I had been to a total of one other sushi place in my life, so I’m not an expert.

The staff was super helpful in selecting a couple rolls to try and both tasted amazing! The flavors were rich and the textures so good. If you are not sure if sushi is for you or not, this would be a great place to go if you live in Idaho. Big thumbs up!

A most excellent restaurant to get your sushi and Ramon in one place for a reasonable price. The service is always very friendly and you are not rushed to get out. We tried island sushi and ramen on a whim while traveling through Boise and were so pleased with every aspect. Our server Jenny was very welcoming and incredibly helpful in offering suggestions for both ramen and sushi. The restaurant was not crowded at all, which Jenny said was unusual for a Friday night. I guess we chose a good night to dine. We ended up order for sushi rolls: spicy hot, the crunch, Yellowstone and one more whose name escapes me. And then we split a bowl of ramen. They were all gorgeous and delicious! The portions were generous and a typical (reasonable) couple probably couldn’t have finished all of it. We just happened to be really hungry and left stuffed. The prices were very affordable compared to other sushi restaurants in the area that we’ve been to. We look forward to being able to return again soon.

We pulled up and there was already a long line. There was a hiccup with getting a seat , Miss communication however, they very quickly resolved the situation. We sat down and ordered and quickly realized why they were busy. This place is amazing! Food was phenomenal and staff was top tier! We are from out of town and wish I could comeback regularly. If we are ever in this area again we will most definitely be back! Amazing sushi and amazing prices! Well done and thank you for a pleasant experience!

A quiet, comfortable little place! There were a few people already there when my friend and I arrived, but we were seated immediately and received just as much attention and care as the other customers. Ever employee we interacted with was above and beyond, incredibly understanding and patient, and just overall friendly! They complimented my friends earrings and would laugh with us at our jokes - not only did they do their job extremely well, but we also felt so welcomed. The food was sooooo delicious - we ordered multiple different kinds of items and none of them were disappointing at all! The pictures I've included are from after we had been eating for a while, I just forgot to take them right away haha! Very reasonably priced, wonderful food, wonderful people, wonderful atmosphere, wonderful time!!

Edit 4: It's been a few years and I still go here more than any other restaurant. They remodeled this year and expanded into the space next door, so they have tons of seating now, so you aren't going to get stuck waiting long. My only real complaint after all these years is they did shrink the portion size of the fried rice side. While it's still very good, I haven't ordered it in awhile because it's now pretty expensive for how little you get.

This was my 1st time here so I wanted to get a bunch of stuff a try. Ordered the Gyoza, Chashu Miso Ramen, King Roll, and a side of fried rice.

Gyoza: You can tell they're made from scratch and they are really delicious.

Chashu Miso Ramen: It's a mix of their Tonkatsu and Miso. Like nothing I'd ever tried but super addicting. Can't wait to try their Tonkatsu too!

King Roll: The roll itself is amazing with three different types of fish. The only think I would change was the red sauce drizzled on top. Its was like a creamy vinegar sauce. Next time I'd still order that roll because it was delicious, just ask to hold the sauce.

Fried Rice: The fried rice is a must have, and a really good price. Best I've had here in town.

Edit: Accidentally let this in my drafts, but went back again last weekend. Tried the spicy seaside roll which was delicious, and had to do fried rice again. I just realized they have yakisoba, so I'm hoping to give that a try this week too since the other ramen place in town has amazing yakisoba
Edit 2: Tried the yakisoba tonight; it was ok, but I still prefer ramen house. These were missing that smoky, wok charred flavor that really makes the dish for me. But I'd definitely still recommend everything else I've tried there.

I can see why reviews are high but I think we just came at a bad time. Sushi was solid but chicken teriyaki came out undercooked and ultimately had to send it back to the kitchen. Service was better then the food. Never a great sign when you have to go get more food from somewhere else afterward.

We have been coming here regularly for 5 years. The food quality has never gone down once, even during COVID. The owners are hands-on and the service is always excellent and friendly. They can accommodate special requests to a large extent if they have the fish available. Fish is always fresh and standards are high. Chefs are consistent.

You can order via phone. We love dining in or grabbing lunch inside.

The ramen is also good, according to my husband and daughter as I don’t eat it. My favorites are the sushi dishes and bento boxes.

Stopped into Island Sushi and Ramen for a quick lunch. It's been a few years since I have been here. The last I remember, this joint was really small and dated. I was quite amazed walking in today how beautiful it is! They remodeled the joint and it's so pretty! I love the light wood everywhere and how soft it feels. There are lots of windows so it makes the venue so bright. They also expanded into another unit which created more dining area for more customers.

Waka, who served me was a previous co worker of mine. So, my review on her is going to be bias. She's the best server there! Her face warmed up as soon as she saw me which is the best feeling. Waka cleared a table for me in her area. I knew what I wanted so my order was taken quickly.

For lunch I grabbed some miso, a teriyaki veggie bento box and some tamago. My soup and salad came out fast! I will have to say, that bowl is miso was stellar! It was salty, there was big pieces of nori and tofu. It was extra warm. It was a perfect fall day for the miso. I got a salad with my bento box. I appreciate that the lettuce wasn't straight out of the fridge. The salad dressing was quite watery and did lack flavor. Such a bummer cause there was so much potential there. My bento box looked beautiful. The veggies were vibrant in color, the Cali roll was stacked nicely and there was fresh cantaloupe as well. The veggies were cooked perfectly, not too hard and not to soft. There was a good variety. I enjoyed the zucchini pieces the most. The teriyaki sauce was a little off for me. There was an after taste that i didn't enjoy. The Cali roll was good. I liked the nori that they used to roll out in. Sometimes seaweed can be chewy when it's softened but this seaweed wasn't. I didn't like the portions of crab to avocado. I felt like i was eating an avocado roll vs. a Cali roll. The Tamago was nicely plated. It was not overly sweet and was moist. Dipped in Wasabi and soy sauce and you got flavor heaven!

Overall, it was a decent lunch. I am still in awww over their remodel, it's just so pretty and spacious. If you eat there in Mondays, ask for Waka!! She is the best and well take good care of you!

Affordable, fresh, and delish! The service is friendly, fast, and straight to the point. We keep coming back for the rolls and eel!! Rice in the rolls is a good small portion. I do wish they had more fish options like salted mackerel or yellowtail collar.

Island Sushi and Ramen is the absolute best restaurant for both service and food quality! We took our family on a Saturday evening. The restaurant had been remodeled since we visited last and the seating has expanded significantly. We were seated quickly. Our server was new but was very attentive and accurate to what we ordered. Our order consisted of 2 ocean rolls (fantastic!!), teriyaki salmon, 3 of us ordered ramen bowls (spicy miso ramen), rice, miso, Gyoza, and drinks. Everything was superb! We were checked on regularly. Our drinks were filled consistently. We enjoyed great conversation because the restaurant was fairly quiet despite the number of other guests. Thank you to everyone who works at Island Sushi and Ramen!! You guys know how to take care of your guests!!!

I’ve been here twice now, and both visits have been nothing short of spectacular. The ramen is ridiculously good but the service is even better! Full transparency, this was my first time trying “real” ramen, and I’ve only had it here, so I can’t compare it to other restaurants, but I honestly don’t want to! I’ll probably always come here. Too much salad dressing on my salad with small amount of lettuce!
We order ramen, the soup was so warm and the noodle was too saggy. I told the (I guess it was the owner) about it but she didn’t even care. She could not take the comment from real Japanese person… because these guys aren’t Japanese … which make a sense they can’t make real good Japanese food!

Well, you can't find super nice sushi joints around, but at least the sushi is decent here and the prices aren't bad at all. Definitely recommend the sushi burrito though. Service is mediocre (they could use more servers), and the place is a bit old and dated looking, especially the outside, but don't let the looks judge your decision from trying it out. 4 stars

July 2024 update: several months ago, they expanded into the next-door space and remodeled now, it is significantly less of a struggle to get a table during dinner hours! The quality has been remarkably consistent.

Original review:

The mark of a good sushi restaurant is if its plain fish and rice can hold its own. I am cautious whenever any restaurants features too many “spicy”-this or “spicy”-that menu items, as strong and sweet sauces may cover up the fact that the fish would never stand on its own merit.

In this regard, Island Sushi needs no culinary trickery. My personal test involves selecting traditional styles such as Nigiri (fish over rice) and Temaki (cone style) are wonderfully tasty and fresh. And in such minimalism, Island Sushi succeeds significantly where others do not.

Another treat they serve is Tonkotsu (Pork) Ramen, which I request thinly cut. This is an always reliable, always heartwarming dish. They provide Togarashi, which is Japanese chili pepper – which you can add for “heat” which compliments the flavor and is a welcomed addition, especially during winter.

The staff are always warm and courteous and the service has always been exceptional.

My favorite ramen place in Boise! The spicy miso ramen with grilled chicken is unmatched! I've even ordered it for delivery (as pictured, in my own bowl) and the way they package it to go keeps it just as good as eating it in-house.

I don't necessarily want to give this place a bad review, I've had good sushi from them before, but this round was unpleasant enough to where I needed to leave something. I ordered 3 rolls more or less off of the menu via delivery. It came in cold, often or not it's usually warm, and tastes like the rice was fresh. This time around really felt like I just picked up store quality sushi but for nearly 50 dollars. It was really disappointing. I had used their website, and it must've sent my order through third party, which seems weird to me. I left a request for no tomato on my veggie roll and soy wrap for one part of my order. They said they couldn't do it because it wasn't through their website....even though it was...but I didn't make a big issue as it wasn't charged. But it arrived with the receipt saying no tomato, to end up having tomato. I had requested a side sauce, didn't get that- and the dressing for the salad was strangely gelatinous.... maybe it was an off day, but nonetheless, I wasn't very happy this time around. My dasher was lovely outside of this, and arrived in a timely manner as well.

The ambiance of the dining area is bright, modern and welcoming with an authentic ambiance.

Service was great. Granted it was not busy, the wait staff was attentive and engaging.

The food was stellar. I had the Kani Salad and Island Roll (this thing is killer). I was still a bit hungry so I asked the server to surprise me with some sushi pieces of her choice. She brought me the Super White Tuna and the Fatty Yellowtail, both simply decadent. If I HAD to pick on the meal I would say the Kani salad was a bit heavy on the cucumber and could have use a little more crab (but that's me trying to be critical).

I had to update my review. It seems like with the expansion of the building, some the service declined. We watched as four other parties were seated after us, ordered, and received their orders. It was a sashimi order for two. The waitress said "I'm sorry, it's very busy", when in reality, she had just forgotten to put in the order. No comp, nothing. The food is still great and at a reasonable price. You can sit at the bar or grab a table.

The price is cheap and the food is great. 2 of my favorite things about a restaurant.
I ordered the medium spicy pork ramen, and it had a great kick to it. I'd definitely order it again.
The service was okay but that's only because there was one waitress attending to the whole restaurant.

Pretty underwhelmed. First and only time we’ll probably eat here, really don’t get all the good reviews. Rainbow roll was fishy tasting (I get it’s sushi, but good quality doesn’t taste “fishy”), and the ramen noodles were almost as if they cracked open ramen packages from Wal-Mart and used those. From all the reviews we just had higher expectations. People were very friendly, atmosphere is great, food was disappointing.

Independent Ramen / Sushi bar. I've been here a total of 5 times.
This establishment has been open since summer of 2018.
The prices are at market value for Japanese cuisine.
A great selection of rice wines(Sake) and Japanese lagers offers a great pairing with your Japanese dish.
The service is .. if you have seen any YouTube vids of Japanese service is still kept with the same traditional mannerisms but toned down in light of American cultural norms.
A great place for an office or business luncheon.
Even a cozy romantic spot for a special date.

Overall pretty mediocre. Orders the steak hibachi dinner with only rice. The service size of rice was super small and came out 5 minutes before the steak. When the steak came out it was obviously cooked dry and then smothered in teriyaki sauce. Passing through traveling so hopefully it's just a one time mistake but for the 20% higher cost than compatible places in the area I was hoping for better.

Overall pretty good experience. The sushi burrito was very good. My wife had the edamame and she loved it. And she's had edamame at lots of places. She however did not like the teriyaki chicken. My pork ramen was very good. The BBQ eel was okay. Service wasn't bad but not great either. I would go back.

Got our food to go, but the staff were super friendly upon pick up. We got home and the food was pretty good. The shrimp ramen with the spicy miso had a few problems
The shrimp was way over cooked and was very chewy. The broth had also sperated. We also got the chastu with tonkotsu and really enjoyed it. Their fried rice was also really good. Overall enjoyed the food.
The price was decent but we do feel we didn't get much for what we paid. Don't know if it's different if you dine in. Will probably try again.

Delicious food! One of my absolute favorite restaurants. I enjoy having their crispy roll along with the miso soup. The shrimp tempura is a great appetizer, too. Good service, as well. All in all a very enjoyable place to eat.

This was our first time trying Island Sushi and Ramen. We had the Angel roll, Ocean roll, seafood ramen, a kids bento box and gyoza. Everything we had was absolutely delicious! Portion sizes were large and the staff was friendly and attentive. Prices were good. We will absolutely be back! Oh I almost forgot! The miso soup was AMAZING!

This is the best place in Boise to get sushi hands down. One of my most favorite restaurants in Idaho period. And its definitely on par if not better than most places in much bigger cities and more populated states. The shrimp fried rice will blow your mind. I've tried all of their rolls. They're all excellent. Treat yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Wow!!! Today was the first time eating at Island Sushi and Ramen, I was quite surprised when I walked into this restaurant how elegant and bright, it was very inviting. The service was top notch. Our drink orders was taken within minutes of our arrival. The servers were very watchful and knew we were ready to order. Then when our food was served...very quickly I might add, the presentation was delightful and very appetizing. The sea food Ramen was chocked full of sea creatures scallop, shrimp, squid. The tempura was perfect and very flavorful. The tuna roll and avocado roll although simple were quite delicious. The prices on the lunch menu were very affordable. I love my new go to!! Island Sushi and Ramen. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I walked into this restaurant not knowing what to expect. Was instantly greeted and seated in a booth that was very comfortable. Rachel my server showed outstanding customer service and went above and beyond. The ramen I ordered was packed with flavor and the meat was Soo tender. I also ordered sushi that was to die for. The price was very affordable.10/10

I have had better Ramen and other areas and restaurants specifically dedicated to Ramen, but I do not believe that if you try this restaurant out, you will be disappointed. The staff are quite friendly and polite, and checked up on us only as needed, which is very nice when you have a group of 4-6 persons, which is what we came in with. The quality of the sushi was nice, and we had a good smattering of different kinds. The hand rolls are well put together with a good amount of meat. The specialty rolls definitely come looking the part, and there were a few unique combinations of fish, and vegetable, and, other items that myself and a couple others have not had from other restaurants which definitely was a bonus. The ingredients were fresh, the avocado was not old or browning, and the portions of each dish were very fair for the price. On a scale of one to 10 I would write the Ramen out about a 6.5 to maybe a 7. The Thai iced tea, which a majority of us ordered, was not as strong of a black tea as we would have preferred, and we felt like we were hunting for flavor in that regard. The atmosphere lens itself well to conversation, and we felt like we could speak about private topics without necessarily being overheard by other parties, despite the somewhat close proximity of other tables to us. Definitely believe that this is a place that deserves repeat business and you should come here if you’re looking for good atmosphere with overall decent food!

Sushi, poke, teriyaki, and ramen were so bland with 0 flavor. Everything looked great but tasted poorly. Poke bowl meat was cut in huge random chunks, and small portions for price. Miso soup was good tho. Spent $100. Not worth it.

Staff is polite, service is quick and their fish always tastes fresh. Very affordable for sushi and lots of options. Their interior is also gorgeous, so it's a great spot for a date or special occasion.

First time here. Anniversary dinner.
Service was very quick! Barely thru the door and they were greeting us and had a table... and they were busy!
Had miso soup, the choice "A" of sushi platters, I had a soda and we both had water. Excellent service the entire evening. All this and the bill was under $30.00 with a tip.
The food was excellent! I recommend it. Will also be going again.

My husband and I love this place! We’ve tried many different sushi restaurants in the Treasure Valley, and this is our go-to spot - we've been coming here for a few years now. The sushi is always fresh and the ramen is rich and flavorful. Try the Miss Roll or the Spicy Miso Ramen with chashu!

Besides great food, the staff is always very friendly and attentive. They new remodel/expansion looks great too. When we don't have time to dine in, ordering on their website is super easy and fast. Highly recommend!

Island Sushi and Ramen is a solid 5-star gem. The place might look a bit run-down from the outside, but trust me, the food inside is absolutely delicious. I'm particularly a fan of their sashimi—it's extremely fresh and always hits the spot. If you're in the mood for authentic and tasty sushi or ramen, you definitely need to check this place out. The quality of the food more than makes up for any first impressions you might have from the outside.

Love this restaurant! The Tonkostu broth was creamy and the Chashu pork was tender. Exactly what I want in a bowl of ramen. Everyone was super nice and welcoming. Will definitely come again.

The best sushi I have literally ever had. The island roll ? That was exquisite and I come from California and the sushi is quite competitive, but this little hole in the wall restaurant that you would have never spotted unless word of mouth , has in fact blown me away. The lemon and lime thinly sliced and placed on top of the salmon and the tuna? With the jalepeno and the spicy sauce? It is an explosion of flavor. Don’t get me started on their fried rice. I have never tasted a more tangy more delicious explosion of flavor from rice before in my entire life. I am in awe I starting tearing up it was that delicious. I’m a foodie, I’ve tried so many sushi places but this really took the ball straight out of the ball park. It’s not even in the same radius. If you love sushi and love impactful flavors. This place is for you. This is how the one place I will go to eat out any chance I get. Also the California roll even has explosion of flavor ?

By far my favorite place to have ramen! The place has such an at home feeling the waitresses are so nice and work super hard to give you the best service. I been taking people here every time they ask for sushi or a new place to try ramen! I'll keep doing it because they treat me like family when I go there and that's never happened anywhere else! It's a small place but it's very popular! Make sure to call ahead and ask for the waitlist if they have one. After everyone is out of work like 5 or 6 I feel they get very busy until closing. I always call and ask to be on the waitlist just in case they're super busy. You can also make a reservation. They make it work for you, and their food is delicious. My favorite order is the Miso soup shrimp ramen medium spicy with a side of a double shrimp roll sushi and before all this I love ordering their Gyoza my favorite appetizer! There is so much to try here! I absolutely love this restaurant. 10/10 recommend!

The food was top notch! The ramen is dressed well and perfect for anyone getting into Asian dishes. For me, the food gave me a Ratatouille moment. The servers and Sushimasters were kind and helpful. the menu was easily legible and exact on description. I attended this restaurant around 3pm on Sunday and was nice and quiet for those trying to have a peaceful lunch away from hustle and bustle. When i come to boise, this will be one of my top 3 restaurants to consider. Thank you Island Sushi and Ramen for becoming one of my new favorite spots!

Friendly service. Very tasty sushi and ramen. The restaurant is smaller so there was a short wait for a table, but they turned tables over pretty quickly. We dined in and shared sushi and gyoza. My husband and I also had ramen which was really good. Very fair prices and attentive service. Will definitely go back.

This was a great selection for sushi! Went there just to try it out & found our next favorite place to fo for sushi. There are other food choices as well that looked delicious. I had the Hawaiian roll & tempura shrimp & veggies. My daughter had the angle & California rolls & loved them. The service was & we didn't have to wait long to be seated. I highly recommend this place! Very good food!
