This place gets busy!! I'm so glad I showed up 15 minutes before it opened. The line was huge by the time they opened the doors. My party of 6 was sat right away but the group behind us was a 30 minute wait. I knew the food was going to be good!

Our server was quick and attentive. The chef had some tricks we've never witnessed before and we've been to quite a few hibachi style restaurants in our time. He made an angel with flame wings out of onions and and egg!

Our food was delicious, fresh, and the portion sizes are plenty! I recommend the filet mignon, shrimp, scallops, fried rice, and hot sake!

The main reason I keep coming back is Adrienne. She is one of the best and most genuine servers we’ve ever had. I'm going to do my best with this review. I worked at Kyoto's for 16 years with the previous owners. My last visit was in 2022 when the new owner had taken over. That dining experience wasn't the best. Our server was rude. Our chef cross contaminated his cooking utensils with cooked veggies and raw chicken. We had to look for our server for sake bombs. These were just a couple of the few issues with my first initial visit. As horrible our first visit was, I made sure I came in today with an open mind.

Our reservation time was for 5:15. They had our table set up and us at the table by 5:10. We did come early so it wasn't really busy at the time. We sat, got ourselves adjusted and our server was ready to grab our drinks. Our server did take a minute to get our drinks to us. We did have a couple different lemonades which could be time consuming and a hot water pot. After drinks were dispersed, our server asked if we wanted to do any starters. We asked her just to take all of our orders at the same time. Some of us wanted sushi for dinner as well as Hibachi.

Soups and salads were dropped off while everything was getting prepped. The soup looked really hot but it actually was at a good temp. The soup was on the saltier side but still good. The salad was ok. The salad dressing didn't really hit for me. It wasn't sweet nor savory.

This part of the review will be hard for me since my dad was our chef tonight. He's the most amazing chef on the planet so my opinion will always be bias for my dad. But I'll be honest! We started off with the fried rice. The rice was cooked nicely! It wasn't dry and had great bits of onion, egg and carrots. It could have used a little more soy sauce. My husband opted for the side of yakisoba noodles. They were chewy in texture and slightly charred! So good but it was on the saltier side. My meal was shrimp and salmon. The shrimp was tasty! They were good sized prawns and cooked perfectly. I appreciate that the salmon was grilled perfectly! I love when the salmon is crusty from the grill. I like the crispness on the outside and softness on the inside. My chef did a great job!

Our server did an ok job. She checked up on us once while the chef was cooking. She filled up our drinks but missed my daughter's drink so we had to fill it ourselves since she left carafes of our lemonades on the fireplace. I had to fill up my drink as well since she was gone for a while. Boxes were passed out when we were done. She gave us 1 bag and didn't ask if anyone else needed their boxes bagged up. I did see bags on a side table so I grabbed a couple. Bagged up my sister's 4 boxes and my mom's 2 boxes.

I would leave this at a 3.5 stars but since my chef did such a good job it's a 4. The silverware could be polished. Nothing like eating your meal with a fork with a ton of water spots on it and looks dirty. Soup could have been hotter since it's cold outside. Overall, it was a good meal with decent service.

The price is a little much but the food and service are really good I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, most the sushi dishes are 10-13 the hibachi prices go from 30-40 depending on if you want steak or seafood. The Asian beer was really good and sweet.

The food was very tasty. Our server was very attentive. The cook was ok. My reason for 4 out of 5 stars was that I was charged 22% gratuity on a meal for 2 people. I planed to tip but I like to choose my own tip. Maybe more, maybe less. I was not aware of this until I got my bill. I was just about to tip the cook a cash tip but he left before I was able to pull out it out. Now I'm glad I didn't because then I would have paid nearly 50% tip without knowing so. Not cool. Please let your customers know before hand. I get it for a large group but a dinner for 2 was unexpected.

The food is always delicious here but it’s hit or miss with the chefs. This time our chef did not split portions correctly resulting in some of us not getting very much food. We had a part of 8 and there was a party of 2 that sat with us. When the chef split up portions he gave half to the couple of two and then split the other half between the 8 of us and we barely got any food. We left still hungry after paying over $400. The chef also didn’t interact with us at all and gave minimal effort the entire time. We all were pretty dissatisfied with our experience and this is not the first time this has happened.

We went a couple of weeks ago for a date night. It was amazing! Aubrey was amazing and just overall had the best energy. The food was delicious! The hibachi chef was so fun, the overall experience was so memorable. The filet was the most tender piece of meat I've had in my life! (And I've had it all from Michelin star restaurants to little steakhouses) the filet and lobster were absolutely beautiful and well worth the cost! Word to the wise though, the fried rice is far more flavorful than the yakisoba, skip the upgrade.

I took my boyfriend here today for his birthday. My boyfriend wanted hibachi I would have liked the all you can eat sushi, but apparently you can’t sit together and do both. We both thought this was strange but whatever. We both ordered Hibachi, that however was fantastic and the chef was great. But the soup came out cold. I specified that it was his birthday in the reservation and to the waiter. no one even told him happy birthday, much less a complimentary dessert or anything of that nature. We were not offered dessert to purchase either, so that was unfortunate. Just felt like they were rushing to get us out. I thought that was odd as it’s a business and we were trying to spend more money. We showed up on time for our reservation. Overall for the amount of money I spent the service and “taking care of guests” was not up to par. Although I would be willing to give it another try and change my mind, for now I would say spend your money elsewhere.

We live right next door to them they do bad business one of there customers hit out fence over a year ago so they decided to take it down and refused to put one back even though we offered to pay for half of it know we have no privacy to our back yard the new management sucks there also very rude to us customers constantly throw trash in our yard and they refuse to do anything about it :edit they responded to my review saying it's not true if anyone has any questions if you see me in my wide open back yard cause there's not fence know I'll gladly show you photo proof of all the messages and photo of the car hitting the fence and show you the property markers showing the old fence was on our side 😁

We went here for my birthday. We made a reservation to sit at the sushi bar and noted that it was for my birthday. We ordered an appetizer which we never do, but it was a good this we did. My order arrived and my wife kept eating the appetizer while waiting for her food to arrive. I finished my 2 sushi rolls and my wife’s dinner never arrived. I asked to speak to the manager and told him what had happened and he offered to make her dinner then…..? I said we were not interested in waiting for something we had already ordered more than a half hour before. The sushi rolls stuck to the plate which made me think that the rolls were pre made and put in the refrigerator. This was not a great experience especially for my birthday.

I was on a short vacation to Boise and was craving Sushi and a combo dinner. Your restaurant is great. Loved the setting, our server Audrey is top notch. She made the dinner experience super. Had a Kyoto Roll on her recommendation, MOST EXCELLENT!! 😋 Food was superb. I would be a regular and request Audrey every time if I lived there. I will be back in the future. 😁

Everyone but the host was awesome! That guy needs to go! He was rude as hell and then kept glaring at my husband which was bizarre. We were nice and polite the entire time and don't live in Idaho nor have we ever been there before, so not like we knew him. No one should ever basically say, what do you want, when you walk into a restaurant. This was 5/31 at 5pm. Our chef was fun and the waitress was sweet. Food was good and we had a good time! Also what happened to the good sauces at these places? Used to be an amazing mustard sauce and a ginger sauce. Now disgusting yum yum sauce and i don't know what the other was. I got some wasabi and mixed with soy sauce because i can't have all that sugar. Also, please tell people if you are putting sweet sauces on their meat. Never had that happen with my chicken before and I can't have sugar!

I have literally driven past this place for year and never once given it a second thought. Didn't really know what it was and never saw and vehicle there. But my son wanted hibachi for his birthday and we found Kyoto to one of the top rated ones in the valley. So we decided we would book a table here and we were not disappointed! Atmosphere was amazing and clean, the staff was attentive, and the food was amazing. Everyone we had with us was super impressed with their experiences and we all agree we will go back again!

Most of us had the chicken and filet mignon (cooked to order). If you want, you can even try to catch a shrimp in your mouth when the chef flips it up towards your mouth. It can be done, but not by all. Even the 2 year old was entertained. Plenty of free parking too and easy to find.

I'm not updating my review from years ago, but i do want to say my positive review was for the previous owners and employees. Kyotos has new owners and employees now, I've only seen 1 employee that stuck around since the change.
Kyotos was one of my families favorite places, and the old employees became friends of ours due to our frequency. My review cannot say much for the new owners/employees. They seem to never have availabity for walk ins, even though empty seats are present. Old Kyotos would Always find seats for us, and they were way more busy then I've seen with the new Kyotos. So it's definitely different now.

Review for the old owners and employees: Kyotos is one of my family's favorite places to eat, and hands down the best sushi in Idaho that I've tried. Service is always amazing also. We come to this place a few times a month, that is how much we love this place and the staff. <3

This was my husband and I's 3rd time in since yall started your ayca and we really love it! The portions are great the fish is fresh and the service is fantastic. I'm an all you can eat sushi person so I was a little skeptical of doing the traditional order by the roll thing. However I was practically forcing myself to finish my two rolls and appetizer bc the rolls are pretty ginormous. Tempura shrimp and veggies were crispy and perfectly cooked. Sorry no pix I dove in before it occurred to me, but the presentation was beautiful. Excellent attentive service from our waiter Danny. I've lived in Boise my whole life and just live around the corner and this was my first visit 😱 but definitely not the last.

This place is ABSOLUTE TRASH now!!!! We have been going since I was about 6 years old and the new business SUCKS!!! They are INCREDIBLY rude and disrespectful and only care about their “schedule” and just money money money! Absolutely ridiculous experience. Won’t be going back again. After we had finished our food, we paid our $409 bill. The waitress was busy, so we had to wait to pay. During this time, the kids were still drinking their drinks. A female came to the table and started clearing the plates. She then took the kids drinks from them and put them in her dirty bin. We said hey, they are still drinking those. She said we have another reservation in 15 minutes. They pretty much kicked us out. Our total table bill was over $600. It’s not like we could leave, since the waitress still had our debit cards. This lady was so rude, we will never go back. Very disappointed!

You are correct, we were 10 minutes late, due to Christmas traffic. My daughter was 15 minutes late. We were still done with our meal in plenty of time. The upsetting part was the rudeness of your female staff that was clearing the table. I didn’t want a discount on my bill, the food was good so I don’t mind paying for what we ordered. Her behavior was so unacceptable. The drinks were taken right from under the kids, they were still sitting at the table. Her comments were very inappropriate.

New ownership definitely did not change the recipes. Service was great! Not impressed. Chefs smoking in the parking lot. The building is old and uninviting, esp the front. The inside is dark and dingy. The show was very underwhelming. The salmon was good, chicken was dry, veggies and fried rice were mediocre. They also added a 22% gratuity charge to our group of eight. Definitely not worth it, won't be back.

Great place and great service, unfortunately I cannot remember our servers name but she was great and we had a our server went so far and above I put 30% on it. Will go back many more times. Just remembered our waitresses name,,, Adrienne is beyond compare.

Overall nice place but wow was it an expensive evening. We had 4 adults and only had 3 drinks and our bill (w/tip) was $265.
The food was decent, the show was toned down and less engaging that many I have scene but ok.
The service was welcoming and kind, but we did have to wait several times for things like a glass or refills.
Overall, if it were not so expensive, I would go back.

It was great coming back 18 years after our first visit. The staff was amazing , showmanship of the chefs was incredible. This was an excellent dinning experience. Our kids already have plans to come back next time we are in state.

The best sushi in Boise. You can tell how fresh the seafood is. The staff is amazing here. Everyone is super friendly and attentive. A very fun spot!

Kyotos was one of my fav restaurants before they sold. I would go weekly just for sushi. Since transitioning owners, I think the quality of food has improved. But I greatly miss the servers.

The seafood tastes fresher. Me and my family had some sushi and ate at the hibachi grill; I ordered my steak, chicken, and upgraded the steamed rice to fried rice. I requested my steak be medium, but it came out well done -- which was a bummer. The fried rice also had a bit too much black pepper. Sushi was good though

I liked the cook a lot. I wish google would let me give .5 stars. I would give the food a 3.5

I like Izumi in meridian more. It was okay, we had reservations at 8pm and someone came by to kick us out at 9pm. I have a shrimp allergy, which at Izumi they just prepare mine with everyone else’s and they put the shrimp on last. They cooked mine in the back which defeats the point of getting hibachi, they also didn’t ask how I wanted my filet cooked which she did apologize for. Also, it would be nice if they had some sauce to dip into. To top it off it feels presumptuous that they only had prepared tip values of 20-30%. Also they charged us $2.50 for fried rice which was probably stated on the menu but the waiter should’ve phrased that it was extra.

We arrived for our reservation right on time and were seated at a hibachi table by ourselves (wife and I)... About 10 minutes went by, and a fairly large group arrived and were seated with us. About 10 minutes later, we had first contact with our server. 20 minutes sitting without so much as a glass of water, or an explanation as to why we were sitting alone, etc. is excessive from my point of view. On the plus side, after the 20 minutes of nothingness, the service was good from there on. Unfortunately, we can't get those 20 minutes back, and we can't overlook a staff that thinks that seating and ignoring is a good way to run a resturant.

As for our meals, I had NY steak and scallops, which were cooked nicely. My wife had the chicken and scallops. I enjoyed my meal, but my wife wasn't expecting her chicken to be drowned in teryaki (I tried it, and it was overwhelming, no chicken flavor, just salty/sweet teryaki). Additionally, there were no sauces to dip our veggies, nor proteins into... All of the other Japanese steakhouses we've been to have had at least two sauce choices (we've been to at least 20 different teppanyaki establishments, and this was the first to not have dipping sauces). Additionally, the fried rice was pretty one note, as the garlic butter was dominant... I typically like garlic butter, but this time, it was too strong and bitter. I somewhat enjoyed the "5 spoonfuls" of soup, but I missed not having tofu, and there was precious little miso, if any, in the soup. Also, the salad was mostly carrots and pineapples, with a dressing that was not Japanese in flavor profile.

Bottom line... While there were some good "moments" at Kyoto's, there were enough misses, that we will stick to Izumi's, when we're craving Hibachi.

Two years ago I posted a 5 star review and this was our favorite spot.
Unfortunately, in the past year or so, ownership has changed and it’s gone down hill.
The sushi just isn’t what it used to be and tonight the sushi was underwhelming to the point that we won’t be back.
The service was good and that might be the only redeeming quality.

Absolutely Fantastic. I had the Lobster and Scallops Hibachi and my hubby and I split a shrimp tempura appetizer and a chefs choice sushi platter. I did find it weird that they served the tempura with a sweet and sour kinda sauce instead of the traditional black, sweet tempura sauce but it seemed to work so it was no biggie. Got a miso soup and salad with the meal which is pretty common for this kind of fare. First time I ever had pineapples in my salad though, but again it somehow worked. Staff was super courteous food was great, but I will say it was on the pricy side. Probably not something I can afford to have too often, but I will say the food was amazing. Also the peach Soju was pretty amazing, smooth and flavourful.

Manager on shift Peyton had his vape in his mouth in the kitchen and hot plate and proceeded to blow it while serving the plates. Saw two of his female employees look very uncomfortable when he spoke to them and noticed why, when he had grabbed one of them by the back of the neck as if he were trying to flirt. I reached my breaking point and asked why he thought vaping in the kitchen was allowed and walking around with it in his mouth. He said “oh you saw that dude?”, told him I’d get a hold of management and he said to “do what I gotta do, bruh” . Not to mention when I called asking for his name, the host asked “why do you want to know”. This place has a new owner I hear, that’s unfortunate that their letting this kind of staff on shift and representing what once was a highly praised restaurant. To the owner, your passive aggressiveness is humorous. Didn't know Kyotos was also in the business of assuming couples altercations, interesting, who is trying to defame who now? I'll be following up with the CDHD since you're going to drop the fact your employee is vaping in your kitchen. Point blame, but not to me. Good luck to you!

I was very disappointed by the sushi rolls - I ordered the Boise Roll & Yellowtail roll. Both rolls used mushy rice with no seasoning. The Yellowtail roll was lacking any noticeable fish; the Boise roll is topped with seared tuna, which was totally dried out.
The salmon sashimi was reasonably good and the pieces were nice sized. I had hoped for fresh fish & was only left with a bad taste after dinner.
I don't know why others claim that Kyoto is so great - there are several better sushi restaurants in Boise & Meridian where the fish actually is the highlight and tastes very fresh!

I used to love this place. Back when Tony the Tiger was alive... so many good times. Today I showed up for my 430 reservation and was informed that it was cancelled. The hostess who didn't really seem bothered a bit by the dillema said she could get us in at 9pm. No one cancelled. I have a text that said it's confirmed. Again, no effs or effort given... customer experience starts at the door and thats exactly where we headed... again, 20 year old hostess could care less. Don't count on this place in your plans if you and your family are hungry and looking forward to a good experience.

This is now one of my favorite sushi places, though the have 3 or 4 large hibachi grills. I ordered chef's choice with nigiri and received 3 pieces of nigiri, a caviar battleboat,. And two large and extravagant California rolls. I felt it was great value at $40, but not cheap either.
If you like to sit at the bar, they only have one small one off to the side with 5 or 6 chairs. The interior is dark and mysterious. Very interesting place!

First time here. Sat at the hibachi grill. Very talented chef! The food was perfectly cooked and delicious. He had filet and scallops. Filet was sooo tender and flavorful. I had salmon and shrimp. Perfect on the salmon! Veggies were tender and had good flavor as well.
Recommend for anyone who likes good food and entertaining atmosphere. Staff was super great and friendly!

The chef was entertaining. Food was underwhelming, salt & pepper seasoned vegetables, fried rice, quartered scallops about 8 pieces, and New York steak diced ordered rare cooked to medium about 8 - 3/4 inch pieces. Soft drinks were $4. Automatic 22% gratuity added to the bill. Dinner for two? $94. Just enough food for the meal, no take home. Won't return for those prices.

Went to dinner with husband and his parents. Our waitress, Jen, was awesome. The place is dark and depressing. My in laws shared a chicken and steak meal, I ordered filet mignon with noodles and my husband ordered chicken with fried rice. The soup, chicken, vegetables and fried rice were amazing. The other diners at our grill had shrimp and lobster with steak. There was no separation of food or cookware and my mother in law had a mild reaction to the mixing of shellfish with her food. Thankfully my husband didn't. When the chef cooked the steak he mixed the cheaper steak with the filet mignon so there was no separation. I got a few pieces of it with several pieces of the cheaper, fattier cut of beef. Some of us can tell the difference no matter how we ask it to be cooked. A well done filet tastes different from a medium sirloin or whatever it was. It was so fatty. Was not impressed and won't go back. The noodles were drowned in sauce which was unappetizing. I feel like I didn't get what I paid for.

Ordered just sushi tonight decided to pick it up on my way home from work. Ordered at 5:50 receipt said would be ready around 6:40. Show up at 6:40 said I'm here for my order guy let's me know will be about 15-20 minutes as they are just finishing. I got my order at 7:25. 45 minutes after it said it would be ready.

The recent updates at Kyoto look great and modern! Excellent service on a busy Friday night. The folks working the sushi bar were friendly and fast. And the food as always was great. Love their miso soup, a little different from other places in a good way, and all the Hibachi and sushi is delicious.
