Image 1: Costs $11, but the taste is just average. It’s not as good as the à la carte sashimi for $3–$4, which is much fattier.
Image 2: The platter with three kinds of sashimi was mediocre, except for the uni.
Image 3: Highly recommend the fried dishes—cheap and delicious! The fried oysters and fried vegetables with shrimp were great.
Image 4: This is Kobora’s uni. I mistakenly ordered the $7 regular uni sushi instead.
Image 5: The fried platter was average overall; only the fried oysters and vegetables are worth ordering individually.
sushi is all quite good, with options like sweet shrimp and scallops—my favorite is the sweet shrimp. The special uni was already sold out by the time we arrived at 8 PM, and the sea urchin egg was gone too. Reservations are necessary. Even if you arrive an hour early, you’ll still need to wait until the exact seating time to be seated.

Katsumidori Sushi is one of the best sushi places in Oahu, Hawaii. Most of the fishes are flown from their headquarter in Tokyo, Japan. In my opinion, it is on different level of other local sushi-ya. I love their seasonal selections especially the Hikarimono (Blue Fish) based. I can eat here every day. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for best possible sushi you can have in the Island.

Customer service was good and it seemed that it was layed out like a typical Japanese restaurant in Japan would be. The fresh spicy shrimp sushi and the spicy salmon sushi were fresh and savory and delicious. One of the best shrimp sushi I’ve had. The delicate fresh shrimp won me over. The katsu parfait was underwhelming and would not recommend.

As someone who enjoys sushi regularly, I had high hopes for this restaurant, especially with Japanese staff both in the kitchen and front of house. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. The uni was not fresh and tasted unpleasant, the shrimp was dry and lacking in flavor, the rice crumbled apart and seemed improperly seasoned, and the fish had a strange off taste that made me question its quality. The eel, on top of everything else, had so many tiny bones that it was nearly impossible to eat. To add to the disappointment, they didn’t even ask if we wanted hot or cold water, which felt like a basic oversight.
I genuinely don’t understand how the food could be this mediocre given the authenticity I was expecting. Even basic chain spots like KazuNori or Sugarfish manage to deliver a better and more consistent dining experience. This place seems more geared toward white or Americanized tourists than anyone looking for quality, authentic Japanese food. I really wanted to like it, but sadly, it fell far short of expectations.

Katsumidori is very very busy (at least at night times after 8pm) and I would recommend you make a reservation before going, or you may need to wait 30 minutes to an hour to grab a seat or to get your takeout orders processed. The sushi stations have much more backlog than the rest of the kitchen, and if you’re dining in, you should be able to enjoy your non-sushi items before you get your sushi. As for takeouts, I highly recommend you either go all sushi or all non-sushi, when you mix the two your non-sushi items can come out very cold. We ordered fried chicken along with a Yokozuna sushi set, and we ate the food immediately at a bench nearby the restaurant after receiving the food and we noticed fried chicken is already quite cold and soggy.
As far as the sushi goes, some items are undoubtedly quite good. We enjoyed most of the nigiris except for the clam and eel ones, but these lower quality nigiri (and cold fried chickens) really lowered the overall dining experience (see picture, ones with green checkmarks are good, rest you should avoid). We tried multiple sushi restaurants in Oahu at this point, and we had Genki sushi (sushi chain with multiple locations in Oahu) the night before and I would recommend going there instead as quality of sushi is equal and most of the times better than Katsumidori, and you don’t have to wait at all there.
I highly appreciate Katsumidori’s serving staff, they were like superheroes doing multiple jobs at the same time, but overall I wouldn’t come back here again.

Located in the Prince Hotel, the place has a cute vibe. We ordered the premium platter for takeout, which is advertised for 3-4 people, but most items only had 3 pieces. What’s the plan for the 4th person? Are they supposed to go hungry? Aside from that, the taste was good, as expected for the high prices.
You can temporarily park your car in the valet lane while picking up the order.

This was certainly a unique experience for me. The typical sushi place where I am from is AYCE and I only order the items I like until I think I won't be able to move anymore.
That is not the case here, as you must order a la carte, which isn't really bad, but I'd had a couple beers already and was worrying about over ordering, or under ordering and being a bother to the wait staff too often. Turns out that likely would not have been an issue as the staff was super helpful and polite.
Anyways, with their help, we decided to be adventurous and order a combo platter that had all sorts of stuff on it that I would normally never take a second look at (Horse Mackerel, Sea Eel, Salmon Roe, Urchin), and match it with some tempura and seared nigiri that I knew we would like.
I am glad we did because it gave me the chance to try new things and although I didn't love all of it, it was nice to experiment.

Update 12/4/24: for Dinner, let’s get this out of the way, this is one of the top sushi places in the USA period. Seasoned master Japanese sushi chefs, the sushi is sublime, Tokyo+ quality, full stop. Now, as far as other dishes, it’s a significant step down. Soups, desserts, all a bunch of notches below the sushi. So it’s a great, great sushi restaurant that offers truly authentic Japanese food, a rarity anywhere in the USA. Now on to the restaurant. It’s pretentious, very snooty service. The management and everything is Frenetic, very loud atmosphere. I was called ahead of time to confirm my reservation and promise not to exceed 90 minutes. The master sushi chefs will take food orders from Japanese but not from
Most non-Japanese. It is what it is. Side note, reasonable prices relatively speaking.
December 2023 Lunch:
There seems to be (at least) three authentic Japanese restaurants in Waikiki. Authentic means Japanese key staff, authentic dishes, none of the American rolls etc. the other two being Suntory and Yoshitsune. This restaurant features very high quality Japanese fare for lunch and dinner. This review focuses on lunch. There’s a few great specials and we had the Chirashi , assorted tempura, miso soup and a huge flavorful very fresh tofu salad bargain at $7.50. Call ahead for sure and dinner can be hard to get into.

The fish was very stale and poorly seasoned, the price was not expensive but unreasonable (tasted bad). Some black line in a piece of fish and we have no idea what it is…the worst sushi place in Waikiki.

We arrived without a reservation and politely inquired about the wait time. However, the front desk staff curtly responded, “We will call you when a table is available.” Despite this, we waited patiently.
Within 10 minutes, a staff member approached us to inform us that we could be seated but would need to finish our meal within 35 minutes due to a prior reservation for the table. This made the experience feel rushed and uncomfortable.
That said, the food was excellent, prepared by a skilled and friendly chef, and our server was attentive and kind. While the dining experience itself was enjoyable, the poor customer service at the front desk significantly impacted our overall experience. For this reason, I would rate it 3 out of 5.

I had high hopes for this restaurant, as they are known for their generous uni servings at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, my experience was deeply disappointing. After waiting an hour for a spot, I was informed by the middle aged chef by the counter—quite rudely—that they wouldn’t serve uni because they were saving it for Thanksgiving the next day. This crucial detail was not communicated beforehand, and the chef’s dismissive and condescending attitude (‘if you don’t like it, you can leave’) made matters worse. They were prioritizing tomorrow's customers over those dining today, which feels unfair and disrespectful to those who made the effort to come. The lack of transparency and unprofessional customer service left a bad taste. I won't be returning.

I didn't enjoy a single bite. Yes I'm a sushi snob and have eaten sushi across the world but this was just terrible. The tempura was soft. The tuna was not soft. The negitoro was flat out disgusting. It was not minced tuna it was pink sludge that tasted like the bottom of SpongeBob. The photo and the actual are completely different. See photos. O and bring sunglasses cause dang it's bright in there. I don't typically write negative reviews cause I follow the golden rule the best I can, but in this case I hope I can save someone from wasting their time and money.

Sorry for the long review. Please read it and let more people see it! We just had lunch at the restaurant today. It was an AWFUL experience. It’s a long review but please take a min and read it through. This will change your mind! The WORST on the island contains races and disrespectful service attitudes. I checked in with the front desk lady, she’s old, and she took me straight to the back while there are plenty of seats at the front and the counter. I was trying to talk to her regarding to a seat change, she ignored and left. That was very rude but I’ll take that she didn’t hear me, even I raised volume asked her again. And then I talked to the Chef at the counter, the Chef is fairly nice and kind. He helped us switched to the counter and took our order. After switching to the front, I thought we could finally restart freshingly but things get unexpected worse. The male server started putting down plates and chopsticks for preparation next to me. He literally DROPPED every single one of them with squeezy noise next to me since there were three seats on my left. How pathetic! He’s probably having a bad day or his gf slept with another guy? Since we switched the seat, we have never ever received a single cup of water or anyone ask us for the water demands. We ended up ordering a beer and a oloong tea. I only see three server in the restaurant and the restaurant is about 30-40 percent full. Can’t remember how many time they were chatting playing, and on their phone while ignoring the plates we finished. Even the male server was holding the water pitcher walked behind my seat, I just don’t get the damn water. Lol good gig good show. And then we had to put empty plates on the side for not blocking the way. At the very end, I was trying to take a look at the menu but accidentally hit my tempera sauce bowl and it spilled a bit on my shorts. Luckily, it was a swimming shorts. Three server walked back and force millions of times without a single ask or even a single piece of napkin. What a beautiful day! The female server only came twice with the food we ordered. She never asked about the water and never checked on us. Assume that all three of them are busy in the 30-40 percent fulfilled restaurant? Life is struggle huh! Lol! I’m guessing three server were blind and deaf, maybe they need to go and see the doctor for such an arrogant attitude and the race opinions in their head. I wish I left after switching the seat. One more little tip, heard the old lady at the front was whispering in the store that, if Asian people came, bring them to the back, leave the rest at the front. Aren’t yourself Asian? What’s wrong with being an Asian? This is OMFG. Well, I know lots of Asian people had some good experiences here and some bad( 80% because of the service attitude). And they shared on the internet and it accidentally famed this spot. However, they don’t appreciate it at all. The only one star I’m giving here is that two chefs are nice and he and she gave us a smile while talking. Can’t we find another sushi place on the island? There are a million of sushi place here, this one is truly one of the kind. Disrespectful, rude, blind, deaf, discriminating. Thanks for the time and hope u all had good exp somewhere else, unlike us!

Make reservations or take your chances and wait for a table. If you’re craving REAL Japanese food. You will know when you try the miso soup. The real deal, no instant miso served here. Today we enjoyed the lunch special, Tendon set with side cold udon, but other must try’s are the Yokozuna sushi platter. We will be back for sure.

The fried seaweed rolls were charmingly inconsistent in size, sliced with a delightful lack of precision, and haphazardly drizzled with sauce. It was almost artistic in its sloppiness. The overall plating seemed to be an attempt at style, but it ultimately missed the mark.
As for the payment experience, it was unforgettable in all the wrong ways. The lady, presumably the owner, was insistent about tipping, almost like a drill sergeant. Her demeanor had a certain condescending air, making you feel like a student being scolded. It's clear: if you plan on leaving anything less than a 25% tip, prepare to face her wrath. Consider yourself warned!
Organizing the store for a quick close takes priority over serving guests. Overall, it was cluttered.
The food was mostly fishy, with the best flavors being horseradish, mini udon, and sake.

I have been to this place a few times and was never disappointed. Even though the price has gone up and portion of some dishes reduced, it's still worth the value for money spent here versus others. This place is always crammed but cozy. Early (2-3 weeks) reservation is highly recommended. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. I prefer to sit at sushi bar for immediate service and interaction with the chef.
Dishes I always order include the fish soup, steamed egg custard, uni overflowing sushi, homemade Macadamia Nut tofu, and assorted sashimi platter.

I made a request for sushi bar seating but I didn’t know they didn’t offer sushi bar seating on the day of my reservation. I’m kinda disappointed they didn’t contact me about my seating preference in advance because we came all the way for the freshly made sushi. We would’ve canceled the reservation if we knew that. The quality of their fish/seafood was not consistent. Last year we had a great experience sitting at sushi bar and having its uni/prawns/others. This year we brought my mom here and experienced the below-average quality of sushi. The nori was not crispy and the Hokkaido uni wasn’t fresh. Not sure if we would be coming back again:(

We visited Katsumidori, a sushi restaurant located inside the Prince Hotel, which was recommended to us by the hotel staff. The interior is reminiscent of a high-end Japanese sushi restaurant, bright and lively, with some regular customers clearly present. The main area features a long counter with a few booths opposite it. It's not very large, so it fills up quickly. We ordered a plum cocktail, sake, the Yokozuna sushi set, Kobore Uni, Kobore Ikura, chawanmushi, saba oshizushi, and for dessert, Kona coffee jelly. The fish was fresh, and the prices were reasonable. However, the drinks took a long time to arrive, and the oshizushi had mayonnaise on it, which was unexpected and disappointing. Additionally, I was surprised to find that all the tableware, despite this place being considered a high-end sushi restaurant, was made of plastic rather than the usual ceramic commonly used even in cheaper establishments.Overall, though, it was a good experience.😊✨

My boyfriend and I came to Katsumidori to get our sushi fix after shopping in Ala Moana. We opted for their seared menu, and indulged in five tantalizing types of seared sushi, each bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. Alongside the sushi, we savored a delightful salmon skin salad, crispy tempura that melted in our mouths, and a comforting combination of hot and cold udon noodles. We loved the type of noodle they used for the udon - it was thin yet bouncy.
While we've been here before and enjoyed a sushi feast a year ago, we acknowledge that Katusmidori may not be the absolute best sushi we’ve had, but it certainly holds its own and is consistent.
The quality of the fish can taste like a hit or miss, but overall, the experience is still superb. The private vibes add to the allure, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere for enjoying a meal. Service is consistently polite and professional, ensuring a pleasant dining experience each time.
In summary, Katusmidori earns a solid 4 out of 5 rating from us. It may not be perfect, but it's definitely a reliable choice for satisfying sushi cravings with its tasty offerings and welcoming ambiance.

Tucked in the Hawaii Prince Hotel in Waikiki, this small Sushi restaurant is popular. **Reservations required** otherwise its near impossible to get in. Best bang for your buck imo on oahu. They remind me of the sushi restaurant in Narita airport, friendly fast service and they specialize in maguro or ahi.
Menu is ordered through a digital touchscreen so you can scroll quickly and order what you want. We usually spread out the orders since the food takes up the whole table 😄
Usually order the sushi set and then ala carte depending what my guests want. Sure there are better places around but they will empty your wallet. This place will make your sushi cravings satisfied and wallet still intact🤙🤙

The only problem is that you get 90 mins from your reservation time, so I had one but it took them about 15 mins to clean the table I’m guessing. Service was fast and friendly, and it reminds me of Japan. Food was good except one roll… it had it ketchup and mayo on it… would not recommend. Other than that fish was good and price was good. My family and I love coming here for quality sushi at an affordable price. You order through a tablet on the table which is quite easy and allows you full use of your 90 minutes. Our server was very friendly and checked on us frequently to see if we needed anything like water refill, enough wasbi, etc. Our favorite items is the salmon skin salad, the yokozuna, kobore ikura/uni, and any of the lunch sets.

Very fresh sushi here. We have dying to hear on four separate occasions with our trips to Honolulu. Great selection of different types of fish that parallels what you can get in Japan. Pretty consistent product. They can get packed in the evenings. Accommodated our little one. I've read some reviews that the service can be a bit frustrating. However, people need to keep in mind that this is quite standard for Japanese restaurants. There are no substitutions, special requests, etc. If they can't accommodate your request, they will let you know up front. I have no problems with that.

We unabashedly are Americans who enjoy Americanized sushi in addition to the simpler traditional sushi. Situated in the Prince Waikiki hotel, Katsumidori definitely leans more traditional, with a limited select of Americanized rolls like "spicy tuna" or those with spicy mayo. We heard much Japanese being spoken between the staff and guests, which probably is a good sign. Anyway, we did enjoy the Yokozuna sashimi platter as well as various handrolls plus a couple of the available American rolls. Be warned, though: you use an iPad device to navigate an unfriendly menu and place your orders, though the staff is there to help. Nonetheless, this experience feels a bit impersonal and anodyne. Plus, the restaurant is extraordinarily bright inside, adding to the less-than-upscale impression.

It didn’t seem like you were really packed tonight as the bar was mostly empty and the table next to us was too, but our waitress literally never brought water to us until we paid the bill, after asking like 3-4 different times. I also didn’t realize until halfway when I noticed the actual nigiri on the ahi combo that I saved for the end that I noticed a fleck of wasabi sprinkled around on the top of a couple pieces and thought it was odd and scraped it, and come to find out under the fish so I couldn’t really escape it, when I specifically asked for no wasabi. When I brought it up they said they already made it and nothing could be done even after showing that I did select no wasabi on the tablet. I was very disappointed that I wasn’t receiving what I ordered and now all I can taste is horseradish. I feel like I wasted my money and got taken advantage of, so be very careful and mindful and check your sushi, but I probably won’t return

Katsumidori is my go-to sushi restaurant -- the quality is amazing, and the price is so reasonable, staff is always very friendly!

The food was fresh/tasty and the drinks were delicious. The service was average and the ambience was standard for a Japanese restaurant. You order your meal from a tablet device and some dishes are served on a conveyor belt. I would eat here again. Reservations are a must for evenings. Decent value for location and amount of food. The lunch specials are recommeneded. The toro bowl was delicious and reasonably priced for Waikiki. Parking is available across the street for $1/hr.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Hawaii that offers a large variety of Japanese style cooking. I love how fresh the sushi and sashimi are. I love the uni they offer here, and the cooked items are fantastic. Although it's pricey, the quality is what makes this place worthwhile.

Being a big fan of fresh sushi, we got a tip from a resident. He warned that we needed a reservation, so only having two days left I gave it a shot. After a day and a half of "no" we got "yes." We showed up on time and there was a line. The ordering system makes it very efficient. We ordered all at once, which is my one regret. We had all of our food within about 10 minutes and were done around 20 minutes. I recommend ordering one thing at time, to relax and enjoy the experience. All the sushi is very fresh and super tasty. Our Miso soup came with about 8 fresh Clams; with lids so it stayed nice and hot. The Uni was my favorite, what a treat ! We will definitely be back. Arigato 👏

This place is straight up legit sushi and sashimi. The wasabi is freshly grated. The fish comes from Japan and a lot, if not all of the employees are from Japan or are native Japanese speakers. The Toro melts in your mouth. The ahi and salmon are unreal. Prices are reasonable for a high end sushi place. Highly recommend.

Very bad sushi.. they taste like pre-made sushi.. Don’t understand where they hype is coming from. Please spend your money elsewhere to get real sushi..

The food is more than worth the price. It's pricey but like I said it's worth it. The service is efficient and friendly. The atmosphere was nice. They have a "classy" Japanese restaurant vibe but not too bougie to have an automated food delivery line sending food down to your table on a plate with wheels. Overall, a great place.

We thought this place would be good because of all of the people who lined up and the worst part of the experience is the hostess. If you're not Japanese, she's rude and yells at you over the phone

I don't usually write reviews, but this place served such hilariously bad food that I just had to, order was not fulfilled properly, terrible freshness on the fish, frozen fish paste served, the cutting technique is terrible, and somehow all the chefs look to be japanese chefs dispite the terrible food.
Criminally expensive price for horrendous food, anyone who's ever been to japan would know how terrible the quality of the fish are. I guarantee this restaurant would be rated less than 2 in japan.
I dont understand how it's still in business or why it has any good reviews, i can only assume everyone who leave good reviews has ever dined at a half decent sushi restaurant.

Authentic Japanese specialty sushi experience. We sat at the bar facing the chefs and they were very kind and helpful. The food was delicious if you're into authentic specialty sushi.

This was a very different experience than other sushi restaurants I have eaten at. At other restaurants, the fish and other ingredients are in a long glass refrigerated display. At Katsumidori, they were in boxes with a glass top that only the sushi chef could see. One of the very interesting things is the ingredients are already sliced, instead of slicing it in front of you.
My chef was an older gentleman, so I thought him to be one of the senior chefs. However, he would ask other chefs for certain types of fish. The slices were handed to him to make my sushi. Perhaps, each ingredient box only carries one type of fish. I would have preferred the fish to be sliced in front of me so it would be fresher. Don't get me wrong, the fish was fresh, but it didn't glisten like freshly cut sashimi.
One very strange thing is my chef was practicing his peeling of daikon and cucumber between making sushi. This is where the chef makes a continuous slice peeling the vegetable from the outer all the way to the inner core. Think of peeling an apple around and around until you get to the core. This is one of the first skills most sushi chefs learn. After they finish their apprenticeship, they should be able to peel the vege paper thin. I'm not sure what was going on, but his skill level was not up to par. Perhaps he had an accident and was retraining himself. I don't know. From what I observed, all I can say is his cuts were jagged, thick and uneven in thickness. My dinner guests also noticed this.
The food was still good, but I would have preferred to have the fish sliced in front of me. And of course, not to have the chef practice between sushi making.

We had a great dinner experience. The food was great. Service was good. The only thing I would suggest is to update the menu software on the iPad to a more modern user interface. The current menu is a bit confusing to use.

I ordered a couple of the special nigiri/sushi sets and a roll to go and loved the quality and freshness of the fish - everything was very tasty and well prepared. If you're staying at the Prince hotel, I recommend ordering takeout, bringing it to the pool deck on the 5th floor, getting drinks from the bar and enjoying a great meal with an amazing view.

I don't understand why people think this is a good sushi place. The sushi was marginal at best, portions were bigger but the quality of sushi was pretty average. Coming from LA and from places like Hide sushi, 🍣, there is absolutely no comparison

Terrible service I had today is very disappointing. A server front guy is very Rude. I have a 11months baby, but we had 6 adults and 6seat table. He was showing me his face very irritated and told me I couldn’t have a high chair because it was gonna be on the hall way, and he said I had to hold my baby and eat. I hate the service.
The price went up but the quality went down. Sad. The mackerel sushi has too much mayonnaise on it, I couldn’t taste fish, tastes only mayo. Negitoro is frozen pasted, tastes bad. Sea urchin smells and tastes very bad. Disappointed. 6:30Pm June 1st 2023.

Food was fine, but the degree to which they rush the customer is a joke. It's their prerogative to set the 90-minute limit, and asking for "last call" is understandable. But by the third time they ask for last call and have three different people peek over is too much. When the lady dropped off our checks, she immediately, passive aggressively started clearing the table, reaching over me before I could even look at the amount and write a tip - that crosses a line. It's extremely rude and un-Japanese. I should have left no tip but only docked it instead. Not coming back - the food isn't worth the terrible experience.

Awesome sushi with limited seating, so reservations are a must. Beware that the online prices haven’t been update to reflect the current prices. The Yokozuna flagship platter is impressive with only the best selection of fresh cuts for only $49.99. The unagi was most impressive; apologies for not getting a pic. The abalone & scallop were so so good. The wasabi is authentic, not the tube or powder stuff. Selection is via a table side tablet (so convenient). W lots of pics so you know exactly what you’re getting. The iced green tea was refreshing.

Surprised this place is difficult to get a reservation. There were quite a number of empty tables when we dined. 1 star given for many reasons. First, the sushi was ready within minutes of ordering. Which makes me question how many of the sushi was pre-made and how long it has been sitting in the kitchen. Second, the quality of the fish was simply flat out poor. Compared to other places, the price as I call out, highway robbery. Pictures on the website does not match what was on my plate. Not sure why this restaurant is so popular to begin with.

I recently spent five days in Hawaii and I visited a Japanese restaurant in the hotel that specializes in sushi. A friend recommended the restaurant to me, called Katsumidori Sushi Tokyo. In my opinion, it was decent - the vibes was nice, the prices were reasonable, and the food was average for a typical Japanese restaurant.
The restaurant is located inside the Prince Waikiki Hotel, and I suggest using Uber to get there as parking can be difficult. Speaking of the food, we ordered a sushi platter and an eel rice bowl. The sushi platter had several options, and we chose the Ozeki Sushi Platter for $43, which came with 18 pieces of sushi. The serving size was quite generous, and each piece was of a decent size. I particularly enjoyed the sea urchin, Ikura, scallop, salmon, and tuna belly sushi.
The Eel Bento Rice Bowl was priced at $19 and had a good taste. It also came with a side of udon noodles, which paired well with the eel. Overall, it was a nice combination.

Friendly servers. Great sushi men. Huge/long piece on sushi. I don’t know the name of the Japanese cuisine, so my wife ordered the food for me. Fresh fish, perfect rice. This is one of the best sushi restaurant I have been to. You want to try high quality Japanese cuisine? Try this place.
