Party of two sitting at the bar. Two bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Small plates sharing format and we had five dishes (plus desserts) with favourites being the lobster escargot and the pork belly - though they were all great. The semifreddo version of lemon meringue pie was delicious, as were the cocktails and sake recommendations. Ample free parking, which is a nice change for a Honolulu/Waikiki restaurant! All in all highly recommend!

The food and service at Nami Kaze are second to none. Our server Lauren was super friendly and helpful in recommending dishes to try. Anthony gave us some awesome recommendations for other places to visit in Waikiki during our stay. They were also super accommodating of my peanut allergy. The restaurant is a little bit off the beaten path but definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Honolulu area.
Just a suggestion for the restaurant: we were seated in a room off of the main dining room. The room was quite cold and lacked the atmosphere of the rest of the restaurant. They may want to consider making some improvements to this room.

We stumbled upon this incredible restaurant. I was so happy that Chef Jason Peel and team were focused on sourcing ingredients locally. When a restaurant celebrates local agriculture, especially in an island where most food is imported, I get so excited. The execution of the dishes were incredibly thoughtful. Very nuanced but never pretentious. In our industry, we live in a world full of cash grabs (especially back home), it’s refreshing to see a place full of intention. Thank you to Randy and the rest of the team! Will be recommending to any person traveling through.

5 days in Honolulu and this is our favorite restaurant. A great fusion of locally sourced ingredients and Japanese cuisine. We tried a lot of dishes and our highlights are prawns, kanpachi, hamachi and everything else is good but similar to other good restaurants. This is our third time in Honolulu and finally found a dinning experience that is surprisingly reasonable. Our wait staff was great and knowledgeable of the menu.

The island hopper cocktail is delicious. I look forward to future seasonal dishes. Limited gluten free options but they do exist. My husband wanted to order the salmon but it was not available. He went with the kanpachi instead. He said the grilled grape was a flavor he had never had before. He enjoyed it. The fish was perfectly cooked. The portion size was just right. The okra pieces were flavorful but tiny. Perfect size for the dish, but smaller than the Louisiana born gent was expecting. It was so good, he finished off everything. The ponzu butter was on point. I almost thought he was going to drink it. Thank you for the surprise birthday sorbet. I would have still been happy with a candle in the hamachi roll. The hamachi crudo was my favorite dish of the night. Next up was the scallops with basil pesto risotto.
Park in the gravel parking lot to the left before reaching the restaurant.

Sushi rice 9.5/10
‘Ulu 9.3/10
Hot Eggplant 5/10
Kanpachi 8.6/10
Kanpachi is extremely delicious but the fried okra were too small, felt like I was eating more breading than okra.
I had a nice light dinner at this place, and the food was super tasty and different! The vibe of the restaurant wasn’t my favorite, though; it had few windows, but I suppose that’s pretty common for spots by the pier. The food was unique, but the portions were on the smaller side (as expected).
Be ready for the bill to add up fast since everything is served tapas-style, so you’ll want to order a bunch!
Also, the staff seemed a bit hesitant to move me to the main dining room, even though the restaurant was empty and the area I was originally seated in was really cold.

Waited outside even though we had a reservation. Dinner menu has a very odd selection, unnecessary complex, “wanna-be-upmarket’. Food is very mediocre. But we had a great waiter nevertheless! He was attentive and professional. Definitely won’t come back:(

The food was very good as were the cocktails.
Had all the gin cocktails on the list.
Our favorite dishes were the oysters, tomato tofu, the spicy tuna roll, aji tartare, green beans.
We did not have anything deep fried or the meat but would have like to!
I would have like to have seen the server suggest some dishes that go well together. While I liked the orders as you go encouragement, I feel like we made some missteps with the items we chose together. Meaning they were not great side by side.

Great time here. Very well-run place, packed to the brim. The food was fresh and creative.
We went for brunch, and I will never forget the fusion shrimp Benedict. We also went for a few poke selections and were not let down (they were delicious). Try the sangria! That's a drink I could enjoy daily :)
The food does take some time to come out, so be prepared to have a bit of a wait (even though the service is great).
I loved this spot, the location, thr food, the clear access to fresh ingredients, and the ability to park! Would love to return with a big party and try more flavors!

Service was very friendly and attentive.

My husband had the most delightful experience at Nami Kaze last week. We sat at the bar where Pedro and Anthony took amazing care of us. They knew the menu so well and they were kind enough to take the time to talk through many dishes and what makes them unique. We took them up on just about everything they recommended and were really glad we did. We got the cooked kanpachi, hamachi, smoked tomatoes, 'Ulu tots, and Maze Gohan. Pedro's drink menu was perfection as well.
The food was divine and the service was top notch. /Loved the casual island vibe with the high end food. Favorite dinner on the island.

Love this place but a little disappointed that they don't serve their brunch menu during the week anymore. Made reservations for a friend's birthday and checked the website to make sure that we came in during brunch hours, unfortunately they didn't update their website to reflect this. They have a new just 'lunch' menu for the weekday. Was pretty bummed.

My wife is Japanese and her mother is from Hokkaido, so we’re always looking for good Japanese restaurants. Though this seemed to be a more modern twist on Japanese cuisine, everything we ordered here was excellent. Our server was great and really made sure the kitchen accommodated a food allergy for my wife (which not every restaurant takes too seriously). We also really enjoyed the interior design and ambiance of the restaurant, and liked the location as it made for easy parking in Honolulu. We’ll definitely be back and recommend this place to friends!

Nami Kaze was an awesome experience!
Service was top notch, our server treated us with respect and made sure we had all our needs met. Even the manager on shift during brunch came by to make sure we were taken care of.
The atmosphere was extremely clean, my favorite part of the restaurant was the open kitchen. Being able to see where the food was being made is something you don't see just anywhere and it makes the experience feel even more personal.
I had the opportunity to try many of the food options they offer, and I was blown away by the quality. I ordered the soft shelled poboy, the sauce and pickled jalapeños were amazing I would highly recommend it. Also got to try one of the sushi rolls and a chocolate desert and both were very delicious. All of this awesome food and even the pricing was impressive, for the quality and portions you get the cost is more than worth eating here!
Overall I would say to anyone, do not miss the opportunity to stop and eat here. Make a reservation before hand! I will 100,000% be eating here anytime I find myself on the island!

*My review may vary from person to person so take it with a grain of salt and just use it as a guide to give you some idea.*
The food we got was definitely good. Although, one of the dishes I got made me tilt my head because of the sauce (maybe cause of my preference) but some may like the combination of the sauce and the fish. The taste of each dish may vary from person to person. Some may like it some may not. So if you wanna order the dish, go for it and judge it yourself!☺
I understand that the price is a bit high up there since the place is like a fine dining restaurant. But it's a good place to go to once in a while or during certain occassions.
Customer service wise is a 5 stars, but the over all service at the beginning was slow. But once they start giving out your first order, it will go smoothly.
Atmosphere was nice, not too noisy and not too intimidatingly quiet either.
My final thoughts on this is this is a very good restaurant for seafood and japanese food fans. But for first timers, I would say this would be an intimidating place because the menus have no pictures. So you have no clue what to order cause you don't know that dish is about or how it looks. Though they do have it in the website. But it would be different for others who spotted the place while going around. But do give it a try! The servers will gladly explain what the dish is if you asked them!

all that to say it was an incredible experience and the food is worth it!

everything was perfection 🤌🏽

Got here at 10am wednesday for opening and didn't have to wait at all. Food (Japanese breakfast set - rice was deliciously cooked, etc) was better than I expected but the service was excellent. My hamachi kama was taking longer than they had liked so they gave us a yummy eggplant appetizer (as service) while we waited. They were also sweet to provide an anniversary dessert (as service). Would return again next time I'm in Honolulu!

This was our absolute favorite place in Hawaii: the food, the service and the location are sublime! We came here on a friday evening and got a seat at the bar, so definitely would recommend to reserve in advance :)
As for the service, our waitress was very friendly and super helpful for choosing which dishes to get.
The food itself was so tasty and had many creative/unexpected elements which made it a fun and tasty dining experience. Out favorites were the poke bowl, the eggplant dish and also the cold tofu, but honestly everything will probably be so great :)

The world food tour duo stopped in at Nami Kaze at Pier 38 on a windy evening. The restaurant was already packed at 5:15pm and we were seated at a table for two in a room off to the left side of the restaurant.
The menus are pretty simple, one for tasting, a regular one and one for drinks. I ordered a 2019 Brendel Cooper’s Reed Cabernet Sauvignon ($84). Unfortunately, the first bottle proved unsatisfactory as the end of the cork had disintegrated and my first taste left me with many bits of cork in my mouth and glass. A second bottle proved problematic with similar issues, but I asked the server to decant it as it tasted fine. This is a relatively inexpensive wine ($30/online) from Napa, 100% organic Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. A bad batch of corks or inappropriate storage might have been the cause.
We chose the Hamachi Crudo ($22), Ahiki Acres Eggplant ($12), Mountain View Farms Beets ($15), French Fries ($6) and the Alaskan Black Cod ($36). I asked Kainoa (our server) to space out the dishes because our table was small, but we ended up with all of the dishes on our table at one point in time. To make room, our server held the wine decanter off on the side.
The Hamachi was decorated with pieces of grapefruit and sea asparagus and dressed with a citrus Thai chili oil. The dressing didn’t overpower the fish; a problem we find at many restaurants.
The roasted eggplant was supposed to be hot, but it was lukewarm at best. There were four pieces with dollops of yuzu kosho aioli, a slash of tomato miso and tablespoons of puffed rice on one side. We love eggplant but it would have been better at a warmer temperature. The puffed rice threw me; I thought I was looking at fried larvae. LOL!
Why French Fries? We considered ordering sushi or a side of sushi rice but I cannot bypass fries, especially when they’re extra crispy as I asked for.
The large pieces or bright red and orange pickled beets, tomatoes, cara cara oranges were placed upon a goat cheese spread and dressed with a yuzu mustard vinaigrette decorated with sliced radish and cilantro. This dish was the star of the evening for me. It was a perfect blend of taste and texture.
The black cod was served in a red wine nitsuke, topped with kizami wasabi and rounds of pickled onion. It was very moist and a refreshing change from misoyaki style butterfish, ubiquitous in Japanese restaurants.
We shared a Thai Chili Chocolate Decadence ($12). It’s not what I imagined; it was more like a brownie with a quenelle of ice cream, chocolate chips and a chili drizzle. I ended my meal with a cup of coffee ($3.95).
What did we think? We enjoyed our food at Nami Kaze. The prices are reasonable, and the only disappointments were the timing of dishes and the eggplant. The diners around us were enjoying their meals. Good food, lots of parking and easy to get to … we liked it!

Food was excellent. However, the staff member who greeted us was hostile and made us feel unwelcome. First she told us they were fully booked, and only (begrudgingly) agreed to seat us after I went online and booked one of the several bar spots available on OpenTable. We had to stand awkwardly by the doorway for 15mins despite the seats being available (we could see them) and while another walk-in customer was seated immediately. Once seated, our server (different staff member) was great.

Deceptively expensive but incredibly delicious. You are meant to order multiple entrees from among a few different categories (hot veg, cold veg, hot seafood, cold seafood, hot meat, sushi) and the price can quickly get out of hand if you are a budget conscious diner. You'll gawk at the prices but when you actually get your food you won't be able to help but appreciate the intense amount of effort and care put into the flavors and presentation of each dish. My wife loved the scallops and I have to recommend the beef cheek.

Unfortunately the uni flown in from Japan tasted "off", but the head-of-house was gracious enough to offer to make it up to me with complimentary dessert/drinks. That simple gesture was the reason I gave them 5 stars for service. The oysters ARE THE STARS of the menu. They were sweet, creamy, and lightly briney. They were perfect. The rolls were good, but I would probably pass on them next time. The sashimi set is a must as well. Every peice of fish was insanely good. I would come back again, no question. While this restaurant wasn't perfect, it was still enjoyable, and worth a look.

Sorry to say but the OkazuMa special event was very disappointing knowing how good their regular menu items are. They ran out of certain musubis and couldn't make more for our second seating, stuffed shrimp was simply deep fried, pork items were tough and dry, and beef dish was very salty and dry. Sashimi was best item but had to ask for wasabi which didn't come with the plate!
Lastly, our dessert was simply a tiny ice cake served in a paper cup!
Cocktails were ala carte. We had 4 glasses of sake and 1 beer. Waitress brought check for that and tried to charge us $100 when it was actually $60! Good thing I wasn't drunk! For the price of this dinner I think a much better value would be to go to a 7 course omakase at any sushi restaurant in Honolulu.

Food was delicious~ for starters beet salad and okra. Both were very tasty. Then a couple servings of oysters, small, but very fresh. Next was lobster pasta and kampachi. Wow just enough heat to both the dishes for me. All the while we sipped on Kubota Junmai Daiginjo sake.
Our server was elsewhere and no as attentive to out ordering but maybe because they encouraged us to order online and pay that way. Ho hum.
Did I mention free parking? Just don’t park down wind of the dumpster. Old seafood in the dumpsters churned my stomach before walking into the restaurant.

We went here on a Saturday for a late lunch, the three of us. At that point, the restaurant was still lively, and staff welcomed us with kindness.
The menu is presented kind of strangely, all on your phone via a QR code, though the drinks menu is printed. It’s an interesting ordering process, either through the menu website, or with your server. Yes, thankfully, there are human being servers.
Drinks, including the Ancho Chili cocktail, are well thought out, though the wine list was a bit unremarkable. Mostly large producers and big brand names. The food, however, spectacular. My pork belly congee was full of ginger taste and layered but subtle aromas. The raw egg on top, the salmon eggs, and the plate with the banchan, which included the pork belly itself with its savoury-sweet glaze, we’re all delicious. The chilli crunch, which came in a separate little dish, was also fun. And no, those are not that’s puffed rice, not little insects, that too, would be delicious. My friends loved their shrimp Benedict, the fried chicken, the tofu, and we all enjoyed the sushi.
Overall, definitely recommended for large or small groups, or private parties. A nice blend of casual and classy.

Great experience and food. The team at Nami Kaze is wonderful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The food is inventive and focuses on high-quality and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. We really enjoyed the bok choy, tots, seared ahi, and hamachi roll. Try the shiso sour patch sorbet for dessert - it’s unlike anything I’ve ever tasted.
Would love to come back the next time we’re in Honolulu!

The hamachi crudo was excellent, the marinated eggplant was forgettable, the avocado and zucchini on toast was okay and I forget what the steamed egg dish was. We were there at 11:30 with plenty of seating available. The A/C was too cold (no complimentary hot tea?). The wait staff was good but the price was too high for a meal that was not too filling. I may not have ordered the right dishes but at those prices, everything should be memorable.

We went for dinner and were blown away by the food and service. We sat at the sushi counter, which was fun to see the food being cooked. We had a few plates but the Spanish octopus, prawns, ahi, and bpk copy were so good. This was seriously such a good experience. At the end we were surprised by an anniversary dessert and dome Yuzu sorbet. It was incredible. I wish we were here for longer because we would come back! Next time!

A wonderful place to share a meal with my cousin and his better half (lol) visiting from Kauai. Everything was so delicious, from the maguro nigiri sushi to the beer battered fried ahi on a bed of fries. Already made reservations to return for lunch with a friend.

Service is friendly but took awhile for food to come out. My friend was finished with half her dish before mine came out.
The Goteburger is pretty good

Ahi Marinara was amazing!

Excellent service, excellent food! Ordered the beer battered fish (today it was ahi belly) and chips, People's Choice, and spicy broccolini. I have to say that was probably the best ahi belly I've had in a while. It was moist with a nice crunchy exterior. The wasabi ginger poke that came with the People's Choice was really tasty and seasoned perfectly. The spicy broccoli surprised me with all kinds of flavors and textures. Our first time here and will definitely be going back.

Had a great meal at Nami Kaze, I started with a tropical cola followed by some appetizers Hamachi and Ulu tots and then the main course black cod. Portions were small but it was just right for me. The place is super modern and chic I scanned the QR code and was able to order online and pay online!

Ok it’s my 2024 resolution to leave reviews - I have too many amazing meals that I’ve been gatekeeping! What a restaurant! Everything we had was incredible from the raw fish to the breadfruit and lobster pasta!
Here’s what we ordered (recommend ALL of it) … corn, local beans, breadfruit (2 orders of this bc why not), kanpachi, black cod (so good), hamachi roll, lobster roll and lobster pasta. That’s it LOL

Absolutely delicious! Currently my favorite restaurant in Hawaii. I love the shrimp with buttery sauce and roll. The lettuce of the day is always a table favorite and we eat every bit of it! My husband doesn't really like fish other than ahi, but he loves the butter fish

One of the dining experiences I have ever had. The himachi roll is amazing and the beef cheek was luxurious. Not a bad bite of food the entire evening and we probably ran through half the dinner menu. Bok choy was savoury, green beans spicy, and the oysters so fresh they popped.

Love Nami Kaze. 2nd visit and neither has disappointed. I would describe it as Japanese/Hawaiian hipster comfort food done exceptionally. Also great drinks. Can’t wait for my 3rd visit!

Delicious, fresh and a great experience. No notes this place was an unexpected surprise. We walked in an though fully committed they made space for us. Highlights scallops, okra and corn balls (beignt) great fresh seafood and vegetarian options. Ordered 4 plates and though full wanted to try more so ordered 3 more plates for 2 persons and we are so glad we did.

WOW is all I can say about " tucked away gem", it absolutely will knock your socks off. We had the eggs Benedict and the shrimp and waffles, and let me tell you, you will not soon find better. You open the doors to what you think is a warehouse on a pier, and what you see inside is a classy brunch with artistic twists on amazing food. We WILL be back, and we're bringing the family.

This place has such a unique menu! We went for brunch and sat at the bar (the only rez available). 2 lemonades, 2 sushi rolls, 1 shrimp and waffles, and 1 shrimp benedict later, we were full and satisfied. It’s always refreshing to see new takes on what could be traditional dishes.

Excellent all around. Service was spot on. Everyone seemed to care that all diners were happy. Brisk atmosphere that was fun to watch. And the food was delightful. Everything we had was better than expected (and we had high expectations). Who knew bok choy could be such a super star?!?! Chef Jason that’s who! Was a sushi night for us and we were not disappointed. We will definitely go back and try more. But I can guarantee that no matter which options we choose, we will be getting bok choy.

I'd like to give higher rating but we were seated in the back room which needs more noise abatement or only seat tables of 2. Also we were freezing because the amount of air ducts are too many and point right at patrons seated by windows. The discomfort overcame all the positive aspects.
The food was superior and soooo fresh. The service is great and friendly.

Phenomenal. The black cod, kampachi , and Hamachi dishes were stars but the rest were good. Basically ordered everything on the menu and nothing disappointed. One of the best food experiences I’ve had.

This place is da bomb! It’s got a great layout with nice open seating and also an open kitchen! You can really see the chefs at work! They are all so talented and hard working!
The food was very delicious. We had assorted plates. My favorite was the ulu—a starchy staple of Hawaii. Great crunch and tasty sauce! The pot roast was also excellent!

Good food loved all the veggies on my egg dish. Went for brunch. We will be going back for dinner. The service was great from my phone call to in person. The atmosphere is clean a little noisy for me but got accustomed to it. Definitely make a reservation. The tip was included, but I added to it because the service was great and personable.

Amazing find. Had the best seat in the house watching the su chefs work their magic. Some of the best sushi I've had. The ahi Loco moto was 🔥. The ahi burger was super flavorful. Definitely will return.
Shout out to the head host who was able to squeeze us in after a short wait!

This is more of an izakaya style restaurant. All the food tasted delicious and were perfectly balanced. They have an open kitchen, so if you sit at the counter, you can watch all the fun happen. I recommend the green beans, fried corn, and sashimi plate, but everything is pretty good especially their recommendations. The sangria is also a delicious cocktail if you love sweet drinks, and comes in a pretty big wine glass which is fun to drink out of. If you come as a couple or with 1 friend, sitting at the counter is nice. Otherwise, with a group, sit at a table since it’ll be easier to share all the plates. The only con is usually restaurants like these will ask if you’re celebrating anything, which we were, but they didn’t ask so it felt like the service was a bit distant/surface level experience.

The food was amazing. The flavors and textures were on point. Everything tasted good. Service and atmosphere were pleasant. The dessert was heavenly. Definitely a must try. The only thing that was odd is their menu was QR code only and my phone was not able to scan it. Reservations are needed.

Chef/owner Jason has created such an innovative, delicious memorable menu! Have been there several times and have not been disappointed. His staff are attentive without being intrusive. Just overall wonderful happy dining experience. No wonder he was nominated for a James Beard award. Mind you, this restaurant has only been open a year now!! More awards and accolades on his way!👍🙂

Great food and service! One of our go to places for brunch/lunch.
Ordering and payment is done through your phone. Great for groups as everyone can order and pay for their own. Simple and quick process.
You can't go wrong with any of the food. Personal favorites are the mushroom omelette, people's choice, goteburger, and any of the teishokus.

This place was fun - it's basically a tapas place, but Japanese. It's best with a group and just send lots of different items to the table to try and share. The food was excellent and comes out very quickly so you can order a little bit at a time and then add more of still hungry. Definitely try the pork bellies, and I highly recommend the sushi. The last time I had sushi this good was 5 years ago in Okinawa.
It is pricey, but still go because it is fun and the food is great - just be prepared to spend a bit. Get the sushi!

Could be one of my all time favourite restaurants. We were in Oahu for 8 days and came to Nami Kaze for three separate meals (twice for brunch and once for dinner), and I can definitely say it was my top three meals.
For brunch I’d say the eggs benedict, steamed egg and the broccoli/cauliflower with chili crisps is a must (they just do such a creative twist on it).
For dinner, definitely get the lobster chiwanmushi, the scallops and the butter fish/black cod (and I’d say the bok choy too - its humbling how much better they cook it than me at home); but just about everything we got was above and beyond the typical preparation of the dish you’d expect anywhere else, and for a lower price point compared to similar dining experience restaurants.
For five people it was about $220 for brunch, $350 for dinner.

Very innovative restaurant. Food is very interesting. Three of the dishes we tried were superlative— the Spanish octopus, the short ribs and the kanpachi. Menu would benefit if allergens were listed. Great Prosecco choice, by the way. Next time we will try the sushi.

We were in expecting great things based on the Google reviews we read but, unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to the hype. Food is overpriced for both the amount and quality. The server was initially pleasant and helpful but near the end of our seating time he became pushy; he even started taking away our plates and utensils even though we were still using them and nobody was waiting to be seated. Will not come back.
