We had an amazing experience here celebrating my husband's birthday. The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly and entertaining. I can't say enough good things about our visit. Even my 10 year old enjoyed the food- and that says something! We highly recommend this place. Easy parking, great food, and friendly staff!

We went to Happy Sumo for my birthday. The staff was wonderful and really made my birthday dinner special. The food was amazing and our hibachi chef was nice, entertaining, and very professional. We went on a Monday night and the restaurant was quiet and intimate. Our party was well taken care of even though the restaurant admitted that they were short handed. I would highly recommend Happy Sumo for any hibachi dinner!

I have been living in Peachtree Corners going on 20 years. I decided to try this restaurant. The waitress was very rude! She yelled at me to hurry and sit down because they were about to close. Customers who were already seated were shocked and one woman spoke up. Mind you, I am close to my 70s...she looked to be in her 40s?

I was raised to RESPECT MY ELDERS. I'M WONDERING IF SHE WOULD HAVE TREATED ME DIFFERENTLY IF I WERE CAUCASIAN?

WHEN YOU OWN A BUSINESS....YOU MUST TREAT EVERYONE WHO WALKS IN TO SUPPORT YOUR BUSINESS WITH RESPECT.

“I visited this restaurant on a Friday evening and had a very disappointing experience. Despite waiting for quite some time, no one approached me or even acknowledged my presence. However, when a large crowd entered after me, both a man and a woman rushed to assist them, while I was still completely ignored. This made me feel as though I was being discriminated against, and it was incredibly upsetting.

The service was not only poor, but it also felt biased. I won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend this restaurant to anyone who values fair and respectful customer service. Very disappointing.”

I came back in a 2nd time and gentleman was not apologetic for the behavior.this happened on Friday 27th at 6:50pm.

We had a great hibachi experience! They renovated within the last year and it is much more open, cleaner and fun. Even though the soup was only broth based, it was very delicious! The filet mignon was soooo tender. Scallops were cooked to perfection. The kids meal is also a very generous size. We'll definitely go back.

I recently had the pleasure of eating at the sushi bar, and it was an experience that will bring me back again.

From the moment I sat at the sushi bar, I was greeted by the sushi chef, whose artistic craftsmanship in preparing each dish shows his experience.

What truly elevated the experience, however, was the chef's engaging personality. Not only was the food excellent, but the conversation was equally delightful. The chef was not just skilled with a knife but also a great talker, making the experience both personal and entertaining. It’s rare to find someone who can balance such artistry in their cooking with such ease in conversation.

While I didn’t discover any new favorites this time, I’m excited to return and explore more of the menu.

I've been to this place a few times, and I absolutely love it! The wait staff and cooks are super nice and great at what they do! We had Albert as our personal chef, and he was fantastic. He was very amiable and cooked our food to our personal preferences. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced for all we got- especially with the current sushi special. They do automatically add an 18% tip to dine-in orders, though. Overall, I plan to go back very soon.

I found a new lunch spot! Sumo sushi and steak house is a great place to go for lunch. Not too busy and the food is perfect! I took the advice of the host and ordered the Fuji mouth roll. It was very fresh and delicious! Next time I'm going to order the Godzilla roll. If you're in this area for lunch, do yourself a favor and stop by!

I went there for many years and always considered this restaurant to be a lower-quality but affordable sushi restaurant. The quality is relatively lower, but the price is low, making it a great deal.

Note: Any roll is a fantastic price.
Note: the remodeling makes the place look amazing and clean!

I ordered some premium sushi, such as sweet shrimp and ikura. The ikura was amazing, but the sweet shrimp was a bit old. I ordered four orders.

I also ordered many nigiri and was very disappointed. For example the yellowtail is 6.50 for two, as you can see from the picture, the cut of the fish is skinny, I only expect to see this at a sushi buffet. You can see from the photo the same problem with the Saba, half size.

so based on the quality/price/quantity ratio, I would suggest to focus on the roll, not Nigiri.

This place has change a lot, the service from the staff is horrible, they take their sweet time to come to the table, to get your drinks started, and the sushi is not that great anymore.
They have now added a mandatory 18 percent tip, thus the reason the staff gives the worts possible service, they no longer care since they will get the tip any way.

Be careful review your bill, they will charge you for extra drinks, and they will claim not to know how to adjust the bill because they have a new point of sale system, and they have no idea how to make the adjustments.
At least that is what they told us.
So be aware of this place. Ah I almost forgot the tables are really dirty, have lots of grease stuck to it, and if you ask for it be cleaned, good luck, she used a napkin with out any table cleaning solution, talk about spreading germs here.

Every bad review of this restaurant is well deserved.
There is no happiness in this establishment period.
The owners are rude to their guests.
I waited at the front soo long without any greeting until I found my guest of our party myself.
The place keeps a shallow crowd for a reason.
The owner sat my black family by the wall of windows that was freezing & was as cold as a basement.
Then she proceeded to tell me there weren’t any more rooms available.
The entire restaurant was empty other than 2 places 1 other room was filled & a party of 2 was by the sushi bar!
I asked for water with lemon she brings me a lemon wedge with brown rotting spot on it. No thank you!
Such a metaphor of the spirit there!
While we were eating in that room we all had to put up with the loud TV playing over top of our table.
Distracting us from being able to enjoy one another’s company & conversation. Apparently it was the owner’s favorite show because she would just come inside the room & stand there to watch it!
What was my last straw was when she would do…that but left us eating around our own dirty dishes!
It was the chef that had to tell her to refill our water!
She never checked up on us as she enjoyed her TV going within our room!
Finally I had to get up myself and gather all my guest dishes away from them & put them on the other side of our room next to me!
For that trash service she helped herself with a happy 20% gratuity! 😂 😂 😂
I always tip but lady let me give you this helpful tip.
Remove the “Happy” off your restaurant’s name please.
If you were the one cooking everyone’s food it would be as rotten as that service your providing for your guest!
I never displayed rude behavior for this woman & was quite cordial to her.
But this honest review will possibly save another guest or family from having such awful dining experience!
And no we weren’t even acknowledged as we left their Resturant we had to actually ask the owner’s husband for bags for our leftover food boxes because we got tired of waiting for her to come back.
We did see us leaving but…

I'm extremely disappointed with recent management changes after decades of patronizing Happy Sumo. The food is about the same as it has been - a decent sushi offering. However, like other recent reviews, I've noticed the prices only in the past few months have gone up around 2$ per roll. Even the California roll is 2.45$ more. Miso soup and ginger salad are not included anymore for larger orders and charged extra if you ask for it. No one bothered to say it is 3.50$ extra for just the few-bite salad, especially knowing I was used to it coming with my group's order. The most egregious change is the auto-tip of 18%. It's not mentioned in any verbiage on the menu, and it applies for even parties of 1. When you get the check, it does have it listed with the other itemized items if you don't just hand your card to the server without looking. The printed receipt to sign does not have the auto-tip amount but comes with another tip line with no mention of the 18% already added. My server made no effort to point this out, either. I wouldn't have minded this had I known about it from a sign or the menu. At the very least, I should have been told when the check was processed that it was included. This felt very dishonest to me as if hoping for a double-tip by not saying anything about it. I'm sure many have done so without realizing it was already included. I can't see myself coming back unless they are upfront about all of this and not sneaking things in.

The food is always good. This time it was a little salty, but still good. This time we had an issue with ordering. At first they brought the completely wrong thing for my order, and it took several tries to fix it. It ended up fine, but I felt like the chef was super annoyed at me? The host? The world? The really bad thing though was the gong being hit two rooms over due to someone's birthday. We've been around for that before, but this time it was so loud it scared everyone - actually painful. Totally ruined the whole experience for me. We've been going there for years, but I'm not sure we will be back.

First and last time to visit this restaurant. Sushi is tasteless, not fresh at all. Had to send a sushi roll back during dinner since the avocado used was brown and slimy. It was replaced without argument but the replacement, although containing fresher avocado still was tasteless. The only part of the dinner that was ok was the part that was deepfried. Do yourself a favor: find an alternative to eat sushi.

The host sitting people down was our waiter as well who unfortunately couldn’t be attentive because he had to much on his plate(it was a Sunday night). Walking to the smelly unclean bathroom I could see the kitchen 🤢… dirty crowded and grimy… if only they close the curtain. The sushi came after the hibachi was served and it only tasted ok. And GRATUITY is included for every order so we had to tip 18%. DO NOT EXPECT GOOD anything from this place and expect to TIP.

prices weren’t terrible but the wasabi was too cold, not spreadable and not spicy at all. the fish didn’t have much flavor, i got 8 pieces of nigiri tuna, salmon and smoked salmon. the sushi rice was ok. the clear/onion soup wasn’t bad and the ginger house salad was portioned appropriately and their dressing was very good and not watery. the staff accommodated my requests and were very tentative and friendly. good atmosphere as well and very clean. i would give a 5 on service and establishment, and a 3 on the food.

update: 3 days after this experience i tested positive for covid, which may explain my perception of the flavoring. Next time i am in the area (i visit occasionally for work) i will give it another shot.

Food is delicious, the environment is comfortable and inviting. The sushi and sashimi selection is satisfying with raw and cooked options. The sushi bar is low key and personal while the hibachi rooms are fun and social. Service is satisfactory. The menus have been updated with clear selection and pricing. Currently only serving beer, wine, and sake, however bar and liquor will be added soon. Definitely worth the visit, it's the best go to spot in the area and has been serving amazing food to multiple generations for years

I have dined at this restaurant for over 20 years and sad to say, I will NEVER return. The food was not good and it’s over priced. Hibachi Lunch was about $15 for food & drink not too long ago. I really wanted to like this place because the vibes were cool and everyone was very nice, but the food just wasn’t good 😭! Started off with miso soup , which was clear as water and had 0 taste . Then ordered some sushi and it was okay iguess but it was badly rolled , would fall apart when picking it up with chopsticks and had way too much rice ( they were huge ). :( the hibachi chef was so nice and sweet , but my whole plate was so bland , we all had to put so much salt to taste anything . Total came out to nearly $100 and just didn’t feel like the taste or flavors were there for that price .

We had a great experience at Happy Sumo! We went on a Friday night and Marco was our Hibachi artist. He was hilarious and highly entertaining!!! The food was delicious and the interactions with Marco made for a wonderful evening. It was a little more expensive than we expected but it was a lot of fun and the food was great.

I have never been so horrified by sushi rice in my life. Sticky and gummy. I am still appalled by how bad it was.

The service was cold and extremely impolite. And, like other reviews said, they automatically added an 18 percent gratuity. It may have made sense if we ate at a hibachi table but we didn't? It also would have made sense of the service was great, but it really wasn't.

Good job, happy sumo! You've made it so I will never want to return again.

Got there to overhear a patron arguing with the owner about some bill they got. I had called ahead to announce a party of 9 at 8:00. Got there and regardless of the fact there was empty hibachi seating we kept being ignored. It wasn't until I gathered my party to leave that they frantically seated us. The saving grace is that they gave us their best chef who was very entertaining. Our meals were great so our chef saved the evening for us.

They only care about their money. Been coming here for quite a while HOWEVER only ordering take - out. For lunch my fiancé and I went inside for sushi. *taking note they have an automatic gratuity tip for parties of 5+ FOR HIBACHI* We ate at the sushi bar (in which a gentleman there that works during the week is phenomenal.) The sushi is fresh yes, however half way thru our meal I noticed a fly was on my piece of sushi, I asked the owner if she could just remove the ONE roll because I hadn’t eaten majority of it (which costs about $7 & some change). She insisted on laughing saying she couldn’t see the fly, and continued to say there was NO FLY in my sushi. I insisted to just take it because at this point I didn’t want the entire order, (totaling around $40 & some change). I had a feeling if I’m the event this fly was from the making of the roll than obviously it didn’t matter about the other rolls. She said she’d take it off but when we went to pay not only did she add self gratuity tip of the price of the roll “she took off” but she doubled the price. I explained to her that if we were automatically supposed to pay self gratuity than it should be displayed on the SUSHI menu as well. She insisted that on parties of 1+ a self gratuity tip would be added. This resulting in us never returning, it’s one thing maybe the fly was an accident but it’s another to remove the entire roll from the plate and then charge double the price for the roll. Don’t get me wrong this place is good for take out, just be mindful of how much your being charged, there may be a gratuity tip for take out orders as well.

My whole family and I have loved this restaurant since I was a little kid. We’d come here after baseball games, shows, for birthdays, and everything. Idk what the deal is with the bad reviews, but I still love this place. It’s been around a long time and it’s getting harder and harder to make it in Peachtree Corners. My dad is a pretty picky eater and he loves this restaurant. I recommend and I will be back. Got the filet and chicken hibachi. YUM!

I used to love this place, I used to order all the time from this place, but now, It's just not how it used to be. My last time ordering wasn't as good either so thought to give them another try because as I said before, this place's food used to be soo fulfillng. I just ordered the shrimp hibachi and this time it was just wayyyyyy tooo peppery. Like my goodness!!! Why soo much pepper? I couldn't enjoy my food because they put way too much pepper. I honestly gave this place multiple chances because I just had faith it would e better, but it's just not it anymore. I highly recommend Aiomi Japanese Hibachi , THE BEST, give it a try.

I been going to this place for 20 years, but recently visited and can say, I will not be back. The place smelled of mildew. We waited for over an 20 minutes for our first chef. After he arrived the door lady moved us because the folks who were having hibachi had food allergies to eggs and butter. After going to another table and waiting an additional 30 minutes, with no drinks the chef came. The food was just ok, then we received a bill that added gratuity for service that was horrible. Will not be back until this place is upgraded.

Went back to this place after many years just to compare with other local Hibachi restaurants. Was very disappointed since the place hasn't had an update since it was opened over 20 years ago. The fan above the hibachi was loud and the noise was annoying to the ear. The chef was very eager to cook and leave without a show. The steak was over cooked, rice was okay but not that great. Overall if they don't improve the inside and quality of their food and service I won't be back for a pother decade.

I've been coming to Happy Sumo for about 20 years; mostly the one in Norcross. Their food continues to be my favorite sushi and hibachi, but their service has declined over the past couple of years. Today, at dinner, the server brought our orders and NEVER came back. I finally got up and found the to go boxes and found the server so I could request the check. Two of us got Hibachi Plates. I asked for double veggies and no rice. My son asked for double rice, no veggies. A logical person would expect no extra charge, right? Wrong!!! $3.50 for the "extra" veggies and $2.50 for the "extra" rice. I asked why, when all we did was switch. The response was, "you can't switch." They expended no more food, energy or dishes. I ask, WHY?!?! What a crock! There are sushi and hibachi places much closer to my home and work. I will no longer drive out of my way to receive poor service and get up charged for nothing extra. They just lost a loyal customer who often brought additional people.

This place is by far the WORST restaurant and service I have ever been to/received.
We sat down, they got our drink order and we waited another 10 minutes before someone came back and tried to take our order, when we almost placed it the phone rang and the lady left us. She then tried to make us get up and switch tables for no reason! No customer service what so ever at this restaurant. We won’t be back! Walked in to the women at the counter arguing with someone on the phone. Salad dressing was awful and the soup was lukewarm. The chef was nice, but didn’t really do a show. He would literally sit back and just watch the meat cook. The fried rice came out prepped, he just heated it, essentially. We also found out they charged us extra for the fried rice, but the waitress never mentioned it was more when she asked if we wanted white or fried rice. It was an alright meal, but definitely not worth the $50 we paid for 2 meals.
