Laid-back destination crafting sushi & other Japanese plates in a contemporary dining room.
I came in for lunch and ordered the scorpion roll. My roll didn’t have avocado in it. I asked the server for a side of it that it was fine, I’ll just add it myself. The manager comes over to argue with me regarding only half the roll had it, not the crispy crab part. No where on the menu states this. Even my other side had hardly any. Nearly $20 for a roll and you can’t give someone some avocado…? It made me upset the manager comes to tell me no it’s this way and was very rude about the entire situation. The server wants to cover the roll that I only ate maybe half of and the manager argues with her on that only taking $5 off my bill. So I still had to pay $13 for a roll I couldn’t finish and a very poor experience with this rude manager. I am pregnant and just wanted a good cooked roll and it left me very upset and not wanting to return. I come here often, this was terrible. My server was very nice and apologetic, I have no complaints on her. She didn’t want to charge and felt the manager was rude!

Arrived at Kuroshio at 5:20pm Friday. Seated immediately. Our server, Ariel was a polite and helpful fellow.
Soft drinks came in a can, so no endless refills.
Ordered appetizers; steamed gyoza and calamari- both were delicious.
Ordered 2 plates of Shrimp and scallop teriyaki. Comes with miso soup and very generous and fresh side ginger salad! Excellent.
The main plate had 6 large scallops, 6 shrimp, and stir fried zucchini as well as steamed (or fried) rice. We had to take some home.
On the negative, we were seated at a couples table, but it was too small for 2 people! If all the food were brought at the same time, it wouldn't fit.

I recently dined at this restaurant with my family, and while the food was ok, the service was extremely disappointing. We were seated at a small four-person table despite ordering a large amount of food, including three dinner entrees, a large noodle bowl, a a large plate for sashimi and a roll, appetizers, and fries for our baby. The table was far too small to accommodate all the dishes, and when the last dinner entree arrived, we literally had no space left, forcing us to hold the plate in our hands.
We requested to move to a larger table, but the waiter initially refused, citing how busy they were and unable to move us to another table. Only after I asked to speak with the manager were we finally allowed to move. Shockingly, the waiter did not assist us in moving the plates despite us having a one-year-old with us. His excuse? He was "too busy" to help, which is completely unacceptable. If you're unable to provide proper service, why should we be obligated to tip?
To make matters worse, the waiter insisted that the tip was mandatory because we had five people, including our baby. There was no way to adjust the tip amount despite the poor service. We spoke to the manager, expressing our dissatisfaction and our reluctance to tip based on this terrible experience. The manager mentioned it was a busy night and hard to move tables, this is understandable but that shouldn’t justify inadequate service. If you're going to seat families at tiny tables, you should warn them to order less food—or be prepared to hold plates while eating.
We've dined here multiple times with friends in the past and had much better experiences (but the manager emphasized that she did not remember any of us), and this was our very first family dinner here, and it was a HUGE letdown. That service needs serious improvement while the manager said there's nothing that she can do.
Think twice before you go, you can get much better service elsewhere.

Overall pretty good. I have had my share of Japanese food. The Nigiri, temaki and sashimi tasted fresh and the rest of the food was good. The atmosphere is fast and fun. Our server Tina was super nice. The only thing I didn't like was the sauce on the spicy tuna..it was just too sweet, but that's just my opinion. Overall good.

The sushi here is so bad. Don’t even waste your money. The people rolling sushi have no clue what they’re doing. There is way too much rice, the rolls fall apart between the plate and your mouth, and the presentation is laughable. I don’t know whose back there doing sushi but their name is probably Brian and its their first day

I am disgusted.
I used to love this place, but today, we came in at lunch and watched the sushi cook EAT FOOD WITH HIS MOUTH OPEN directly over RAW FISH and ingredients meant to be served as raw.
I mentioned something to our server, expressing that it is unsanitary and against health code and she said “oh well he just cam back from his break.”
She didn’t even acknowledge how unsanitary it was!
She just kept telling me “he isn’t the one making your food”
Well he is EATING with his MOUTH OPEN over the ingredients going into my food, and right next to the man making our food.
This issue was not taken seriously, and not addressed at the guy KEPT eating after she “said something” to him.

I wish I could leave zero stars. I came in with my Autistic daughter. She ordered the teriyaki chicken and we asked does it have any vegetables, we told them she literally just wanted chicken and teriyaki bc her food sensitivity. We were assured it would have no vegetables. It came out covered in mushrooms and the sever was so unbelievably rude. They wouldn't take it off the bill even though she couldn't eat it and refused to remake it. When I spoke with the manager she was dismissive and did nothing. She offered to take 25% off our NEXT order and my daughter left hungry. The service is horrific but after speaking to the awful manager I see why. Please don't give this place your money. They're just not good people 😕

I have been coming to this location since it opened and was being ran by original owner. Since new management and ownership the device and quality has been slowly going down. It doesn’t have the same feel it use to. Today I came to order food and was told they no longer honored military servicemen by discounting the ticket. Not only do they charge for togo orders and automatically add gratuity for parties of 6 or more but to be even more greedy they have decided to only take a small percentage off of 1 ticket item. They no longer serve Kangen water which was amazing alkaline water. I have been coming to this location for over 20 years and today will be the last day and I’ll take my business to the Kuroshio in Smyrna. Ownership is better, customer service is better and the fish is more oily and bigger. So much has been lost that the reviews will begin to reflect the poor management decisions.

Honestly I never do reviews but this I thought needed to be brought up. Last night my husband and I and our 4 children ate here… yes we have 6 all together BUT one of us is ONLY 3 months old. He needed no care at all but was still counted as a customer. Our waitress added a 18% gratuity to our bill which I don’t mind usually but I also almost double tipped her because never in my entire life have I ever known a waitress to count a baby as a person when it comes to table count. It wasn’t till I really looked at the check again did I realize she had added the 18% and I almost added another 20% on top of this. Our order wasn’t small (5 drinks they have cans with 2$ charge per can) 2 appetizers, 4 meals (my 4 and 2 year old split an adult entree) $63 for our family. I really think waitresses should think twice about this situation because I would have tipped her more than she automatically added. I served for years and it was a common rule to count teens and up unless there was a bunch of kids (party) and even then we would hardly ever add gratuity because we KNEW if we didn't we were tipped better. Let your abilities determine your amount and not forced gratuity! Anyway… food is good here and the atmosphere is peaceful. If you have 6 or more just double check before you double tip.

Dining Disaster: Overcharged, Underwhelmed, and Underappreciated
I recently had the displeasure of dining at Kuroshio Sushi, and let me tell you, it was an experience I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. From the moment I walked up, I was greeted not with hospitality, but with an air of indifference from the staff.
As if the lackluster service wasn't enough, imagine my shock when the bill arrived, revealing charges that seemed to have been conjured out of thin air. Hidden fees? Oh, they had plenty of those, conveniently undocumented until the final tally. It felt like they were trying to pull a fast one on unsuspecting customers.
When questioned about the location of these fees on the menu in case, I had overlooked them, I was told they don't exist. I guess it's owners choice who pays what and what when.
But the icing on the cake was the audacity of the staff. Instead of acknowledging their mistake and attempting to rectify the situation, they brushed off my concerns with dismissive attitudes and outright rudeness. It's one thing to make a mistake, but it's another to compound it with abhorrent customer service.
To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. It's clear that Kuroshio prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction, and I, for one, will never set foot in that establishment again. Save your money and your sanity, and steer clear of this den of deception and disrespect.

Just letting everyone know that as of Feb 2024 the website prices are NOT up to date and the difference is pretty substantial. For example the chicken fried rice says $10 online when it’s actually $15 and add ons are $2.50 instead of $1. My order total was $10 more than I expected and on top of that you still want me to tip? If you’re not going to bother notifying your customers of the price change then you should be honoring the website prices for online orders IMO.
Visited a year ago
Over the years the prices have gone up dramatically and the portions have shrunk. I can remember when tuna nigiri was about $1.50...now it's more than double that, and the portion is very small. I've also noticed the freshness isn't quite as good. When you eat sushi it should never be fishy. Sometimes it's been pretty fishy. Nonetheless, I still go there from time to time... Just not as often as I used to.

I have been coming to Kurushio’s for 3 years and although I have not been able to take the time to write a good review, that was well deserved 3 years ago, todays events have prompted me to finally write one. My sister and I came
in for dinner this evening. It was her first time coming and I wanted to show her the place that I tell every person I know in they want some pretty good sushi in Kennesaw. Our waitress was Ashlie R. Now i’ve never seen Ms. Ashlie in the 3 years of coming religiously to Kurushio’s but she single handily became the first and last reason why I will never come back to location. My sister didn’t really care for her steak hibachi and lilly asked if there was any way that she could exchange the steak for chicken. Now we came in late so I could understand if we were told that that was not possible because the kitchen is closed etc. However, Ashlie responded in an unhelpful and condescending tone. I try telling her “you know what don’t even worry about it, if this will be too complicated, can we just get our bill please” She decides to pick up the food and bring it to the back to show the manager. When is taking someone’s plate and returning it back ever been a practice in the restaurant industry? She returns extremely rude and nasty as we’re trying to see if she could explain again what the manager says. The tone was so unnecessary and escalated for no reason. Even when I tried speaking to her to get a to go plate she disregarded me as I was speaking and continued to walk away until I had to tell her “Excuse me, I was not done speaking” Then comes into my face, yet again, condescending. I was so uncomfortable that I didn’t even feel comfortable waiting there to speak to a manager and by the time I left I attempted to call but there was no answer. I assume it was because because it was close to closing. I do hope the managers take the time to read this review because I have never before experienced an issue at ANY restaurant this bad with a waitress and especially not enough for me to sit here and write a review. There was no reason for Ashlie to have felt so personal about us not caring for one item of food and then continuing to be rude, disrespectful, condescending, dismissive, and laugh in our faces once she was confronted on the way she was treating us. This cannot possibly be the industry for this person and is definitely unfortunate for Kurushio because my family and I will not return in the foreseeable future so long as Ashlie is working there.

This is the 3rd time I’ve placed a to go order and had major issues. Salmon fried rice that had exactly 4 tiny pieces of salmon in it. Minuscule amounts of egg in the veggie fried rice. Inattention to order handling is by far the worst. The wait staff opening and closing the to go plates with unclean, just touched everything in the room hands was the kicker tonight! Then the audacity when I tell them to not remove a roll from a plate already made bc they “think” it’s my missing one. All food was ready except for that sushi roll and the waitress and line cook argued about it before he demanded to see the ticket before supposedly making it again. Their quality of service and food has gone down tremendously! We’re officially on the hunt for a new spot.

I was able to flag her down at one point to ask her for my daughter's drink that was never delivered, but other than that we were unable to get her attention at all. For 30 minutes after we were done eating we tried to get her to bring us our check, and finally another server checked on us and we asked her.
The food was okay, but not good enough to put up with the lack of service.

Ive been to this place twice. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Every single item I bought was extremely dry and unappetizing. The sushi rice is very dry, something I would expect from a roll that has been sitting for a few days.( Not exaggerating) The fish is also dry and does not taste fresh. Even the wasabi is dry compared to other sushi restaurants. I'm not a picky person at all, can even go for Kroger sushi, but this place really is just bad. I don't like to leave negative reviews but honestly the manager/owner/chef whoever really need to work on the quality. All of the chefs I observed preparing the sushi are Hispanic. No racism intended at all but when is the last time you went to a sushi restaurant where a Hispanic chef was preparing the sushi?
Also the building smelled like a damp basement and was lacking decor. Not sure how they have decent reviews, if I have a 99% off coupon I would not go there again, yes it was that bad.

This was a great place. The server we had explained the menu so well. We were able to navigate through it and make the best choices for us. The Hamachi Kama was one of the dishes we ordered and it tasted wonderful but be careful because of the bones. We also ordered the Drunken beef and this was very tasty. Although we only ordered two dishes that all the dishes were probably as good or better.

Do not trust the online menu. The employees admitted the entire online menu is wrong and there’s nothing they can do about it. I paid 5$ more for my meal than listed online.
Also if you’re a fan of yum yum sauce on your food, this isn’t the place for you. Melas come with 0 sauce, and every bit of extra sauce you need is extra

The food was good. The service was very slow. We sat for a long time before being greeted. The food took a long time and it took a long time to get our check. Our server whom appeared inexpierienced kept getting large parties and could not appear to handle it. This should probably be more managements fault than hers.

The atmosphere was really nice and the ramen was delicious.

After years of Kuroshio being our go-to spot for sushi we've finally had to break up. Over the last year to 18 months each visit worse than last. Food quality has dropped dramatically since we first started going.

Very good food (most of the time), love their Teriyaki Shrimp. Amazing side salad. Service is a bit blah sometimes but not bad.

This is my first ever review on Google for good reasons. I would not come here again.
They serve low quality sushi that falls apart and is tasteless. In addition, my sushi (forgot the name, one of the spicy ones) surprisingly had a big piece of chili pepper in a piece of sushi and the whole right side of my face as well as the inside of my mouth burned and got numb. It lasted around 30 min and was one of the worst pain I’ve felt in a long time—not exaggerating at all. The sushi roll was cut approximately into 8 small pieces of sushi but only that one piece was actually spicy. The other pieces were normal spicy. Well, actually, I will never know if the 2-3 pieces I left on the plate were similarly spicy because I was too scared to eat the rest. I did mention this to the waitress but she just said the sushi is supposed to be spicy… mmkay. I can handle Mexican food and normally seasoned spicy food, but if you put a whole piece of chili in there it’s a whole different story.
Not much to praise about the atmosphere either. Visited during the day but they were playing pop/edm wayyyy to loud. I prefer talking with my company instead of yelling. On top of all this, the hard, plastic-like cover of my seat was broken and it scratched my bare (I was wearing shorts) skin A LOT. It was very uncomfortable to sit.
I recommend avoiding this place unless you really have to eat something or are craving quick sushi lunch.

My husband and I went on our first date here, and we have celebrated many a special day and casual outings at Kuroshio since. I’ve tried at least half of the sushi rolls and loved every one – the Alaskan and Blue Moon rolls will always have my heart though – plus the seafood spicy udon is NEXT LEVEL umami goodness that I dream about often. We love you, Kuroshio!

They are clearly understaffed and our waitress was amazing. Cleaning tables, sitting people, and taking orders. Sushi was some of the worst we ever had, we couldn’t finish it and we are sushi lovers. Go to Volcano near by for better quality and tasting rolls.

This used to be one of our go to spots I feel like the staff and clean dishes are hit or miss. Also the canned sodas now are not cool. There's better around for the price.

We used to eat at this establishment all the time. We came up to Kennesaw to Atlanta for an event, and decided to visit one of our old favorite spots kuroshio. I have never had such horrible service. We waited 40 minutes for food, waiter never checked on us, and when we asked FOURTY minutes in to a visit he never put the order in. I can’t help but feel some type of way that he never has even checked with us but checked on everyone in his area. Even people who came in after us ate and left before we got water! It was a waste of a visit and a waste of gas.

I went online to place an order. The price of the order came to $14.00 based on the google menu that came up. I called the restaurant with the order and it was very difficult to hear but I asked twice when I could expect the order which I was told 20 min, I went to pick up the order with a $20 bill and the young man came back with .20, I explained that I should receive more based on $14 plus tax, he said no, the pricing has increased and my total was $19 and some change. I said I would need to speak to a manager, another person came to tell me no mgr. was avail. and they could not reach them by phone. I was told to call back, which I did the next day (07/2/2023) I spoke to the mgr. Daniel and he apologized and explained that the pricing menu was based on the closed restaurant in Midtown and they are working on fixing it, that they have had 'alot of problems' with this. I told him as also a business owner, that I would be sure to have staff explain that the pricing is defunct on the internet and that the actual price today will be xyz, No they don't explain clearly that knowing full well they are not being upfront and transparent. Most people I understand (and they know will let it go) I on the otherhand as a business owner would rather take a $5 hit because of the PRINCIPAL and to make a customer happy and would appreciate the mgr. for taking responsibility and ownership for THEIR problem not MINE as a customer. The only recourse is to let it be known via this medium my disappointment in this Mgr. Michael for not making any efforts to make amends and I will not support this restaurant in the future!

If you’re craving a spicy tuna roll, it’s 80% rice. Go to volcano instead.

Every menu item we have tried over the years has been quality and delicious. Wonderful sushi. My personal favorite is the vegetable fried rice and the portion size is more than generous. I always take some home if my family doesn't finish it at the restaurant! 😀

Miso soup and ginger salad were delicious and I love that they have katsu(: I’ve been several times and have found that the sushi quality was different each time. I think they have the better sushi chefs at busier times

Thought I’d try the seafood ramen tonight. Got home, had a few bites and tossed it down the drain, along with the $18 I spent on it. Calamari was rubbery and broth was uninspiring.

This place is really good. Very casual entertainment. Sushi was excellent. I had a New York roll and a Beauty and the beast roll. Both were fantastic and so flavorful. Highly recommend getting a few friends together and give this spot a try. You wont be disappointed.

MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE RECEIPT. I ordered the shrimp and scallops from them and got chicken and mushrooms they told me they will keep the receipts too, but I didn’t pay any attention to it I just went on about my night. I went home only to find out that the entire order is wrong. I called back up there but they were closed, so I waited until the next day when they opened to let them know that my order was wrong. And they went on to gaslight me and say, “that’s what you ordered” when it wasn’t because I didn’t want chicken. There were multiple people in the room that heard me order shrimp and scallops, (I ordered over the phone). How would I even confuse that with chicken and mushrooms? I DIDN'T EVEN WANT CHICKEN. I been eating chicken all week and didn’t want anymore. I wanted shrimp and scallops. So I’m working on my refund because now food has been wasted, but please get your receipts from them.

Best yum yum sauce in Kennesaw

I’ve been coming to Kuroshio Kennesaw for years. I love every vegetarian sushi option and their fried rice! The quantity and quality of the food here is top-notch for the reasonable prices. One thing, if vegetarian , watch out because the Inaka Yasai Udon sounds and looks delicious but they don’t use veggie broth. I had to learn the hard way. And honestly, the service isn't always good and the food isn't consistent; but when it's good, it's good!

Saturday night, we get there 9:25 and they asked if we wanted dine-in or to go, we said dine-in, she said that kitchen would close at 9:45 then we asked if it was still ok to order and she replied yes. There were just a few people eating and after 20 minutes half of our food came, we asked about the missing items and she said “i thought you didn’t want those”even though she confirmed what we have ordered before take the order to the kitchen. The food was just ok. They didn’t ask what to drink, just brought water. Also the place was very dirty. Not returning.

We stopped in for a quick dinner before our driving break. The food was good, nice portions, rand reasonably priced. The staff were busy, but very friendly, Trey was an excellent server. Would recommend this restaurant. It is a bit loud in there, but it is a college town.
One year later and still 5 stars! Great good and service. Excellent server Casey, enjoyed short conversation with him before we left.
This might be our yearly tradition on our way home from Florida.

For a sushi bar, their prices are very good. Always good service when I go. I'll usually go a few times before I do my review to look for consistency. They have been great every time. The roll selection is different than most. They have all the usual, plus they show support for our local teams by the name of the rolls they make. I always get friendly service and great suggestions when I'm not sure what I want. Going again tonight.
