Taking pictures was totally an afterthought when eating at Takumi—the food was that good. My brother brought me here while I was visiting from out of town, and I cannot say enough about it. The addictive cabbage salad was 100 percent otherworldly. The crispy tuna roll and gyoza I had were so delicious. The pot of hot ginger tea was a perfect accompaniment to the food (so super well presented too), and we literally tried every dessert on the menu. Guess what? They were all amazing—especially the red bean ice cream tempura. Chef's kisses for days. Plus, the owner and the staff were so nice. Highly recommend!
Also the bathroom was gorgeous.

We had a great Christmas Eve dinner at Takumi. The drinks are great, sushi is delish, and they have great vegan and dairy free options. Even though it was super busy because only two staff were working, the food came out quickly and the vibe was fun and relaxing. We will def be back!

We have been frequenting Takumi since it opened. It’s always a solid performer.
Very few sushi places offer fresh fish from Japan, but they do here. They also have a wide variety of hot and cold dishes as well as unique dishes and rolls. They are even making homemade soy sauce now! The quality is exceptional and the owner is super nice.
A few recommendations: addictive cabbage; love triangle roll, crispy tuna roll. And try something fresh from Japan!
Yes, it’s a little pricey. But you are getting top-notch sushi and supporting a great new restaurant. Also, compared to other top Buckhead and west side sushi places, it’s reasonably priced.

I decided to try the Bento Box Lunch at Takumi, which included rice, salmon, some pieces of sushi, edamame, two pieces of gyoza, and some fried vegetables. I also ordered sushi separately to explore more options from the menu. Overall, the food was just okay—nothing special. Everything was average and lacked any standout flavors or quality.
What really ruined the experience was the miso soup. It was, without a doubt, the worst miso soup I've ever had. It had a strange taste, almost like detergent, and basically tasted like tap water. It was so bad that it overshadowed the rest of the meal.
I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a memorable or authentic culinary experience. There are far better options for quality Japanese food.

I was really craving sushi and wanted to try a new place. My friend and I went very hungry, so we ordered a lot. The service was fast, but the fish didn’t taste fresh. They got half our order wrong and some stuff didn’t come out at all. We had to keep reminding them. There’s some stuff I didn’t even tell the waiter because I didn’t want to overwhelm. It was too expensive for the quality of the service and food. Again, not fresh tasting at all. The prices were all over the place and didn’t make sense. I have tried many sushi spots in Atlanta and this isn’t somewhere I will be going back to. Hot house sake wasn’t bad. Weird smears on my plate.

Really enjoy this spot: my husband usually gets ramen while I get their sushi and we're both pleased with the selection and quality.
I'm also impressed with their drink service: we usually get the ginger tea and a bottle of their mango sake. Both come out with a unique and fun setup (teapot on a candle to keep the tea hot along with a honey pot & an ice-packed bucket for the sake; both with beautiful cups to savor from).
I gave a 4 on the service because the first time we visited it took a while for our drinks to come, but on our second visit they were above and beyond with service.

Fantastic sushi place in downtown Decatur. We found it by accident but were pleasantly suprised. Fresh delicious sushi with some unusual speciality rolls...highly recommend the crispy tuna roll. Also the addictive cabbage starter can't be missed. They also have ramen, poke bowls, and omakase and fresh fish glown on from Japan tho I did not try any of those. Large vegan selection also. 👌 10/10

I'm so glad I gave this place a chance! The food was fantastic, and the staff, while clearly busy, maintained a high level of attentiveness and warmth. I really appreciated the attention to detail in both the food and drink presentation—it added a special touch to the experience. The cozy atmosphere made it a truly enjoyable meal, and I look forward to returning.

Had a lovely dinner with my husband on a random week night. We had the gyoza, vegetable spring rolls, a few specialty rolls, and two cocktails. Everything was absolutely delicious. Sushi was one step above most of the other staple sushi spots in town. We will definitely be back!!

Based on feedback from my friends, I was already expecting the sushi to deliver, and it definitely did in a major way. I had no idea that the Gyoza was going to be the best I’ve ever had, though. That was a nice surprise.
It’s a chill, relaxing vibe, and you can feel the care that’s taken by the wait staff, who work as a team to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy there. Great addition to the Decatur restaurant scene!!!

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. The addictive cabbage salad was to die for. I know it may seem hard to make cabbage sexy but this salad is one to try. I would go back just for this salad. The Sushi's fresh and tasty. Had the love triangle. Delicious. The atmosphere was great with relaxing music and the staff was very attentive. The food came out in a timely matter as well. So excited to have a new Japanese restaurant in Decatur. This is our new spot for sure.

I went here off of previous reviews saying how amazing the sushi is and was left underwhelmed. The sushi selection is limited and almost every roll on the menu had mayo in it which was very odd in my opinion. The sushi was expensive for the quality.
In regards to the low service rating, this is a result of the waiter's lack of care. He came over, asked for our drink orders, we gave them, he asked if we were ready to put in food as well so we did. 30 minutes later we get our sushi. The host comes over right away and asks if we need anything, we stated we still needed our drinks and repeated our order. We were waiting to eat and waited another 10 minutes, and the drinks never arrived. I had to go up to the bar where the waiter seemed glued to, and he proceeded to tell me we never ordered the drinks. I corrected him and told him we had ordered it both with him as well as the host. He said sorry it is because it was busy which was confusing because the restaurant wasn't even half full. Although the ginger tea was good once I finally received it, I would not come here again because the cost does not equate to the level of service you receive.

Food was good, but nothing outstanding for the prices, so that's why a four out of five. My favorite was probably the picante roll. We ordered ayedeshi tofu, veggie and pork gyoza, sonomono seaweed salad, miso soup, ramen, 9pc chef choice platter, picante roll, California roll, mochi and green tea ice cream. The cocktail I had was fun and beers were fine. I liked the two different servers/hostess we had, but the service was a little slow.

Best authentic Japanese sushi experience I’ve ever had outside of Japan. As confirmed by other reviewers, the addictive cabbage and crispy tuna dishes are great openers. We ordered tuna (Maguro Nigiri) which was beautifully prepared and as fresh as any we’ve ever had. However, the highlight of the evening was discovering the limited, off menu special fish shipped in daily from Japan, for those who know to inquire about them. I literally swooned over the flavorful & silky textured Japanese uni nigiri, which was one of three off menu offerings sampled on our maiden voyage to Takumi. Japanese butter fish and yellowtail were the other two special offerings that were also mindblowingly delicious - all served with homemade soy sauce. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious. The service is on point and the food is superb! They have fantastic Japanese tea service and a well curated saki selection. If you love sushi, do yourself a favor. Stop whatever you’re doing and go!

Ultimately the best sushi experience you will ever have! 💯. I also noticed this is woman owned which means the details are covered to the ninth degree…truly an authentic Japanese service and food style all the way down to wooden cutlery in a pouch, tea, desserts, honestly I cried, everything was that good, they treated us as very special patrons. Extremely Rare in today’s world. Much appreciated.

It was very nice and cute. It it a bit small but the art is amazing. The food was absolutely delicious the tuna melts in your mouth. The tea comes in a cute clear pot and a honey little pot is soooo cute and the Mint tea is the best and delicious. The mint tea is not artificial mint it’s real mint with a tiny candle to keep it hot. The crème bole was hand made and very tasty. I was completely satisfied with everything including the bathroom. The bathroom was nice and neat with pretty wall paper.

I am a self-described sushi snob, and this place hits the spot! It's as good of sushi as I've had in Japan, and that's not an exaggeration. The freshness, temperature, flavor, and presentation are perfect. We can't wait to go back! Yun, the owner is very friendly and helpful. Extremely disappointing after looking at the reviews. Waited 45 minutes for our food, and only got it because we chased it up. It had obviously been sat on the pass for some time because it was overcooked and too hot. We had to ask for every single item including a drink menu to soy sauce - tiring. If you are short staffed and can barely cope with the covers in your restaurant, don’t accept take out orders at the rate we observed.

Lovely dinner for 6. My favorite dish was the hamachi kama (collar), so fresh meaty & tasty. I would order that dish again. The udon was excellent, fresh noodle. Started off a little odd, as we were the only people, and it wasn't early. But several other patrons came in about 15 minutes later, however that added another set of challenges as they were not staffed for that many tables.

I have been in the restaurant business for my entire adult life and have lived in Atlanta area for over 8 years now. This is hands down the best Japanese restaurant I have had the pleasure of dining at. We got in around 5:40 and the place was pretty empty. We were maybe the fourth or fifth table sat since they opened at 5. We perused the menu and after a bit ordered our starter-takoyaki. About 20 minutes went by. No starter, but we got asked if we wanted to order mains. We ordered a roll apiece and each ordered sushi off of the “flown in from Japan” menu: scallop and sea bream. Takoyaki arrived about 5-10 mins later. It was fine. Octopus was a little chewy but plenty of bonito and not overly battered or sauced.
We then waited about another 30-40 minutes with no check in and no mains. Seated for over an hour and we had not gotten anything more than an app and one jug of water-no refill. By this time the place is pretty full. We noticed several people who had arrived after us were receiving food while we still had no mains. To go orders are being picked up every so often. Still nothing. After checking in with the staff it was apparent they’d never sent our order to the kitchen or lost it somehow. That was enough to know it was time to go elsewhere. We offered to pay for the Takoyaki and were told to not worry about it. However we didn't really receive any kind of apology. If anything it seemed like we were guilted into staying even longer with nothing to eat because suddenly they were working on our order "right now". This was despite other rolls coming out to neighboring tables who had arrived long after us.
All I’ll say is this: I know I’m in the minority here as the only negative review so y’all must be doing something right. Would love to give y’all another shot but it really felt like a bad first impression. Appreciate comping the app, and I’d love to pay for a full meal-just need it to actually show up next time.

Wow! We just had a fantastic experience here - completely caught me by surprise. We pass the restaurant frequently but never stopped in, and we are big Japanese food fans. Craving ramen on a rainy day, we decided to try it.
First, I appreciated the tasteful and clean yet simplistic decor. Then the green tea was superb. I had not enjoyed the toasted aromatics of beautiful well prepared green tea in many years.
The menu looked delicious. As a foodie and global traveler it is rare for me to come across entrees unfamiliar to me. I had to look up Hotate and Danburi. As tempted as I was by many menu items, I stuck to my original plan and got Seafood ramen and my bf got gyoza and tonkotsu. The gyoza was extremely light and airy, crispy, the filling delicate yet delicious. My seafood ramen was artfully presented, the mussels and clams extremely fresh - I could still taste the sea in the clams - the toasted onion was a scrumptious surprise. The broth rich with shrimp and seafood depth.
I cannot wait to return for omakase ! The bar looked well stocked and we are eager for our next dining adventure here.

After coming back from Japan I thought I had sadly ruined sushi for myself back in the states, Takumi has restored my faith that you can find good sushi at a decent price in the Atlanta area. I could not have been happier with my Hamachi Lover roll. Takumi is now my go to Sushi spot in Decatur.

Visiting ATL from out of town, and had a great experience at Takumi. I had high expectations based on Takumi having consistently 5 star reviews and the food, quality and warmness of Yuen and Jason exceeded expectations. The quality and selection is excellent. Takumi is one of the rare few Japanese restaurants that reminds me of the freshness and quality of sushi in San Francisco, known for some of the best sushi on the West Coast. I ordered the additive cabbage (yes, it is additive), crispy tuna, bang bang shrimp, wagyu, tempura, nanami roll and a chef selection of sashimi (maguro, hamachi, hotate, o-toro, uni). Everything was delicious and fresh. I will definitely make another visit to Takumi next time I’m in Atlanta. Takumi is a must for anyone looking for excellent sushi.

What a treat! I'm so glad Decatur has this shop. This is sushi with the care and attention that rivals some of the top shops in Atlanta.
The addictive cabbage is aptly named, I have never had better cabbage and it really set the tone for the care and attention that goes into every dish. Gyozas delightful and savory with the finest chopped scallions over top. We had two rolls both built on the foundation of perfectly cooked sushi rice and made with amazing ingredients that blend together seamlessly into a delightful bite. Even a humble bagel roll was made with absolutely delicious cream cheese. Even the green tea, served in a iron pot over a candle to keep warm, was one of the finest cups I've had in recent memory. The centerpiece of our meal was the Hamachi Kama, grilled fish collar. It was amazing and I hope i showed my appreciation by leaving only cleaned bones on the plate. They even have a select section of the menu dedicated to fish flown in from japan that is of the highest possible quality.
I'm so very happy to have a sushi shop of this caliber in the neighborhood and eager to get more time in this delightful gem of a restaurant.

This place is outstanding! I was looking for a ramen spot and remembered seeing this place in my search. I checked out the menu outside; very extensive with lots of options of sushi, sashimi, maki, donburi, udon, ramen. From their vegan selection I ordered the vegetable ramen. I also ordered the oshinko (pickles), a side of sushi rice, and tea. The pickles were delicious with various vegetables providing slightly different flavors and textures. I ate those with the rice😀 Then the ramen; it was perfectly prepared with the veggies having a nice bite, the tofu crispy and the broth creamy and light. It paired well with the house-made chilli crisp, which I could have eaten on its own. The tea was a genmaicha served in a cast-iron kettle that sat on a candle; refreshing and elegant. The space is very warm and cozy and the service makes you feel like you're at a friend's house. Highly recommend!

Came in with a client for lunch for Omakase: Nigiri. If you don't know what Omakase is, it's essentially chefs selection of Sushi. You don't know what's coming and they serve you one piece of sushi at a time. It's always very expensive, but a lot of fun. They have theirs at market price and we spent $130 per person. The owner was lovely and when I asked her how much it was, she said "how much are you looking to spend and do you want premium fish, I chose the premium, but I'm sure you could get it for a bit less. You might shriek at that price but that's not a bad price at all. The omakase table and Mujo, the two top spots in ATL cost around 350 a person. A solid one I went to in NYC was 225 per person. $130 for premium fish and 15 pieces is not bad at all. I was on the company dollar and treating out a top client. He was so impressed and very grateful so this is a great spot to try your first omakase experience.
The owner gave us the option of having it on a platter or one piece at a time. Definitely choose one piece at a time, it makes the experience that much more fun. My favorite dish was the toro, least was the sea clam although it was the the most eye appealing after the squid. That was the best toro I've ever had. It was like butter that melted in my mouth. I could of had toro the whole time, it was just a taste I've never experienced. And I've had toro before but y'all it was so good.
The place was almost empty at lunch, please go here. I want it to be busy all the time. Theres been way too many restaurants go in and out of business here. You don't get value like this at a sushi place, and the owner deserves immense success. She's sweet and puts a lot of thought into the place.

This was my first time eating here and I’m not sure Google gives me enough room to say all the wonderful things this place deserves! From the outside it’s very unassuming, you might even miss it…but trust that you don’t want to do that. Everything from the table setting to the utensils is next-level. We wanted sushi- and the owner let us know that they fly fresh fish in weekly from Japan, so we went with his suggestions and boy was I glad we did. Every dish was beautiful and delicious. The owner is very present and happy to help you with menu choices. The sushi and nigiri are like nothing I’ve had in Atlanta. This is my new go-to place!

Fresh, flavorful, and authentic! If I could give 6 stars I would. I am extremely picky about my sushi (especially in GA). Takumi is for sure the most authentic and fresh sushi I have had in a long time. So nice to have this gem in Decatur. Highly recommend!!!

So happy to welcome this new spot to Decatur. Yuen, the owner, is lovely and brings fresh wild-caught fish direct from Japan. Everything we ate was delicious and fresh and exactly what you want from a sushi restaurant. Try the Nanami roll - YUM!!! Can’t wait to come in for teriyaki or ramen in the colder weather. Thank Yuen!

Had an amazing meal tonight and it was our first time there. Service, food and the cozy atmosphere was great. We live in Edgewood and have been looking for a good sushi spot near us, and now we’ve found it!

Great food and wonderful customer service

The very best sushi you can get in Atlanta. It is totally worth the extra price to get the fish they fly in from Japan. Scallop is very popular and is fantastic. I also really liked the yellowtail, flounder, and white fish.

This place is amazing! The addictive cabbage salad is truly addictive and the sushi flown in fresh from Japan was so delicious. We will be back!

Super high quality- clean, precise, curated - everything one would think of as the Japanese ideal. Amazing fish flown in from Japan but also great Japanese food beyond sushi: appetizers, noodles, Tempus, etc. lots of vegetarian and vegan options. A real find. Warm and welcoming service is the “icing” on the cake!

First time we’d been to this new Japanese restaurant in downtown Decatur. Really wonderful food (the katsu don is the best I’ve had since discovering it in Taiwan ages ago), good service, and the vibe of a family owned restaurant. Excited to go back!

This place gets five stars for me. The food and presentation of the food was just wonderful. I had the Teriyaki chicken bento box which included miso soup, 2 piece vegetable tempura, 1 piece shrimp tempura, edamame, 2 piece fried gyoza, and white rice for 16.50. Everything was delicious. I had the mint tea. Loved it! My friend had the ginger tea. The appetizers are the same as what’s included in the bento box. It’s not a huge place so there is one bathroom but the ambience was nice. Very friendly servers too. There are vegan options too. I would go back.

Literally the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. It was fresh and melted in my mouth. They were understaffed and therefore my meal came out way later than my husband’s, but it was well worth the wait. The ginger tea was made with fresh ginger slices and heated in a kettle over a tea light. Everything was cute and high quality. But that sushi though…

The freshest sushi I've had in Atlanta, yet! Rice is prefect and the fish was like butter, especially the Otoro. Can't wait to visit on Tuesday when they bring fresh fish in from Japan.
Staff is so sweet and charming, makes you feel like your at home with every course and every bite!
A must try for sushi lovers!

Jason was so personable and friendly that it was hard to get a to go order because of his warm personality. So I sat and had my one roll and a tall Sapporo. Let’s talk about the freshness of that eel - so good. I’ll be back for sure.

We’ve eaten here every week since we discovered it a month ago. It’s quiet and very chill. The sushi has been fantastic every time. My favorites are the toro, the snapper and the unagi nigiri. I’ve not had anything other than sushi, but when I took my family, my sister loved the ramen and my parents said the fried rice was excellent. I hope this becomes a Decatur mainstay.

Had the best sushi I’d had in a year tonight at Takumi Cuisine. It just opened, but I hope it’ll be here forever! The owner was so sweet and thank goodness we took her recommendations. The otoro and amberjack were divine. We will definitely be becoming regulars here.
10 out of 5 stars.

Takumi in Decatur is amazing sushi. I can say without hesitation that quality of the fish at Takumi is unmatched anywhere in Atlanta. Start with the Addictive Cabbage and if Yuen recommends a special, get it. She won’t steer you wrong.

Excellent Japanese food, best in region. Even the rice is superior, they buy the expensive stuff. Really, you gotta try this place.

Where to start? We had an amazing dinner tonight at Takumi Cuisine. It was our first time and the reviews were spot on! It’s definitely worth 5 stars. Our server was very friendly and helpful. If she suggests it, you should try it! She won’t steer you wrong.
We had the Addictive cabbage, karage, smoked toro, sushi platter, miso cod, wine, and beer. As many have said, the Addictive Cabbage was delicious and definitely addictive. We also loved the Toro, both smoked sashimi and sushi. It was some of the best sushi/sashimi we’ve ever had! It’s as good if not better than some of Atlanta’s pricier well-known sushi restaurants without the wait, price, or attitude! We’ll be back to check out the omakase dinner next time!

Newly opened restaurant and we were blown away by how fresh their sashimi was. Especially that smoked toro - hands down one of the best quality toro we had. Their ramen broth was rich in flavor and creamy as well. The server lady was friendly and kind. Go now before they get too busy!

How sushi should be 🤗. Easy going atmosphere and solid, great nigiri. NOT the typical overpriced, ‘clubby’, Atlanta, meh sushi.

All the food we ordered was really good. They were fresh, reasonable price, and good quality. My boyfriend loved ginger mint tea (very cute pot) but just little thing that it wasn’t unclear for me that is menu. I have no idea what the food and rolls look like. They should make menu better with more pictures and also they put all the rolls in the same plate. Not good presentation. I think separate the plate will make roll out standing and look fancier.

They serve very nice sushi and sashimi options. As a Japanese, I was very surprised as they serve very high quality sashimi with low price. I really love this restaurant!

Di st time we tried regular menu was great, and second time we ordered the Omakase instead , its presentation more like traditional kaiseki dish , appetizer, grilled cod fish, sashimi , tempura, nigiri ,steamed egg with uni, ikua and dessert. This should try their food👌and I wish I can give chef Tomo more star

Delicious japanese cuisine with plenty of options that go beyond the standard sushi fare. The service was polite and attentive, without being over bearing. We were recommended the “addictive cabbage” and it lives up to its name. I highly recommend this seemingly guilt free, very satisfying starter course. The tonkatsu ramen was the best I’ve had in the area. We also had chirashi don, bang bang shrimp, and grilled salmon cheek. Loved it all, and will be back to try more of the menu.

Y'all get in here before this place gets too popular. Absolutely fantastic meal from start to finish. The fish was some of the best I've had in a long time. The service was also top notch and they made us feel like family over for dinner. Then the ginger tea to end the meal was a pleasant surprise.

If you're looking for no-frills, CHEAP and *actually* fresh sushi then PLEASE patronize this business!
I think if they advertised a little, maybe via Decatur community newsletter, it would help a ton!
I don't find sushi ave or brush to have non-fishy sushi, but Takumi did! and again, so cheap!

This place just opened up near my apartment and we decided to give it a shot. The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic! The rolls could have been a bit bigger but they were very yummy regardless and made me want more. Way better than Sushi Avenue across the street.

Favorite new sushi spot in downtown Decatur!!! Fish tastes much fresher than both Sushi Aves (IMO) and is worth the slightly higher prices. Very warm service from Asian aunties and the ginger tea was a perfect addition to the meal. Come check it out for yourself 😋
