We have a new Business profile “Hayakawa” and have relocated to the Star Metals Office Building in West Midtown Atlanta.
O.akase is an amazing sushi experience that you must try. I have visited all the Michelin rated Omakase restaurants in Atlanta and this one is my favorite. Happy to recommend this to my 115 million photo viewers on Google Maps.
What stands out here is the personal attention and care by the chef owner: Hayakawa-san. Hayakawa is a small business run by an immigrant from Hokkaido ( I believe).
The other exceptional thing about this place is the generous portion of fish you get with each nigiri. It's absolutely a mouthful , with a fresh flavorful burst.
It's not the fanciest omakase place in Atlanta, but it gives you a small restaurant feel. The only thing I would change is that they provide too many instructions and interrupt while you're enjoying your meal or having conversation with your friend.
I came here with seven friends and we all enjoyed it very much. I would definitely come back.

We were excited to get reservations for our anniversary and it was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had! From amazing sashimi to sushi to soups every dish was more impressive than the last. Even the wasabi was unlike anything I’ve eaten. But what was even more enjoyable than the food was the service and experience with had with Chef Hayakawa and his team. With only 8 seats, you get a personal experience with a Michelin star chef which is something you rarely get to enjoy. I cannot say enough about the food and experience. Thank you to the entire team at Hayakawa!

One of the best omakase experiences I have had to date. Chef Haya San creates an authentic Japanese omakase experience and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into the restaurant and creating a great dining experience. While higher priced than other local omakase experiences, the portion sizes were very generous and fish comes straight from Japan. The uni supplement is a must have and was served in a very unique way. Their wasabi was also very unique and I could not stop eating it throughout the service. I can’t wait to go back again!

This is an authentic Japanese sushi omakase restaurant like you would find in Japan. If you aren't looking for that experience, do go. However, if you understand omakase dining and want the best ingredients, you can't miss this. It's an experience for the senses.
The minimalist decor allows you to focus on the food. The staff is interactive and helpful including showing westerners how to use Japanese food utensils.
We were pleaseantly surprised with the amount of food. We were blown away by the quality of the food. Chef is amazing and is a rockstar in his own right. The Chef's Assistants were amazing too. Monet is truly a delight!

Absolutely amazing experience! Cannot recommend the omakase dinner here enough. Chef Hayakawa and his team provide not only excellent, delicious food, but also just such refined service while making it seem casual. Thoughtful touches such as having a phone holder, posing for pics, and all the service aspects were so elegantly done and smooth. The nigiri portions are large, so come hungry! You will leave feeling full yet satisfied and feeling good. Also, I so appreciate the clear explanations and direction provided to guests. It helps with allowing us to fully focus on the food and the experience. Just love all the small and thoughtful touches, like having a phone holder mat on the table. I had a wonderful time and would love to dine here again, perhaps bringing some loved ones with me. Thank you!

Hayakawa is a place you want to go to for a very special occasion or celebration. For your average foodie looking to experience high-quality omikase.... simply not worth the price tag.
400 dollars pp without any drinks or supplementals. The uni was an extra 65 (but worth it). And sake added up to an extra 100. 500+ for what I would consider average omikase. Some dishes were certainly elevated, such as the uni and otoro Tuna. Other dishes like the salmon tasted like they've been frozen for months. The a5 wagyu was near flavorless, and was definitely frozen for 5 months before being served. For 500pp, you should be experiencing the freshest product possible, and this just wasn't it. Many of the flavors were muted. The ngiri was so cold like the fish was just pulled out of a refrigerator (it was).
Chef's cutting skills are questionable, as portions of the a5 wagyu were not equal. Some people received 20-25% more meat than other because the slices were quite uneven.
His unique Wasabi was good, again cold and refrigerated. But pungent and will hit you in the nostrils. Pickled ginger was muted flavorwise. Much of the nigiri lacked freshness, opting for authenticity being imported from Japan instead. That's where the high price tag comes from.
Anyways, there's other options that meet the same level of quality and quantity, in my opinion, for 1/3 - 1/2 the price. So I'd avoid spending your money here unless you truly feel like it's worth it (it isn't from a food perspective, maybe for a fun experience). You'll probably leave feeling like it wasn't worth it... but hey, at least you get a sticker.
On top of all this.. the entire experience felt incredibly rushed. Barely any time to even drink your sake or have a bite of ginger between courses. Part of it is because some courses are a bit larger, so you don't really get time to savor anything. Gulp it down and on to the next. Too much talking, and strangely, the head server was constantly overhearing private conversation between guests and interjecting her thoughts or opinions into their conversations.. very weird vibe.. no privacy. The rest of the servers were awkwardly standing behind everyone, burning a hole into the backs of our heads with their lifeless gaze, eagerly awaiting to reach over your shoulder the second you put those chopsticks down, adding to the rushed aspect of the service.
With all that being said, the experience was still extremely authentic. Best uni that I've ever had.
Thanks for reading. I hope this helps inform you before making that reservation and prepaying absurd amounts. I'm not trying to be negative or rude, but just give an honest review of a 'michelin star' restraunt.

Monet, the staff and Hayakawa himself showed us to an amazing evening celebrating our anniversary. Every detail was taken care of as we were guided through a delicious omakase dinner experience with very generous portions! (don't miss the optional Uni dish!)
Elegant, but relaxed, friendly, and open; the team delivers excellence without being pretentious. It was also educational! While we don't claim to be experts, we have had omakase before as well as several Michelin star experiences and this has lived up to our expectations and exceeded them in a refreshingly unique/traditional way. Congrats to them on their well deserved star! Highly recommended!

Simplicity at its very finest. This is the highest quality sushi establishment I've ever been to. Hands down the best place to eat sushi in the state of Georgia maybe even the East Coast.

Amazing experience! The sushi was GREAT, but what made the experience even better than any other sushi bar I’ve been to was Mr Hayakawa himself. He’s not only a sushi master, he’s a comedian, a conversationalist, and an all around great guy! 5+ stars!!

Everyone was professional but also personable. Every single course was delicious. The sake flight was some of the best I've tasted. Definitely get the uni add on if it's available.

I have been to all of the Michelin starred restaurants in Georgia and I have to say that this one has been my favorite for many reasons. I went with a friend and ordered the sake flight, the beverage pairing, and the Wagyu add-ons. The food was exceptional and masterfully cooked in front of you. Chef Haya-san is one of the best in the world and to watch him cook, plus hear him tell a few jokes and share his insight, was delightful! The service by the staff was amazing and getting a history and geography lesson with each of the plates and drinks served to enhance the overall experience. I will certainly be back and cannot wait until the next time! Thank you Chef Haya-san and your team for such an wonderfully delightful culinary experience!

We've been to about a dozen michelin starred restaurants and this was by far the most approachable and friendly. You sit at the sushi bar with all the other guests - no tables - and have Hayakawa himself prepare everything you eat in front of you while he cracks jokes, answers questions, and guides you through the meal with the help of his excellent staff. His assistant teaches you the proper and traditional ways to enjoy classic sushi dishes so you never feel dumb or out of your league, which I really appreciated. There's other places that will give you super fancy stuff and wildly creative dishes, but that's not what this experience is about at all. This is about one man from a very specific location in Japan sharing the freshest fish anywhere in the south and his brilliantly simple home town recipes with you person to person. It's expensive, but during the otoro fatty tuna course, he hands you at least 75 dollars worth of fish to just slam in a single bite and while you're chewing you know it's something special. This is an expensive experience for seasoned restaurant goers who want to witness the vision of a man who truly cares about his craft.
I will also shout out his partner who helps teach and guide the experience that helped us pick out wonderful sake and wine throughout the evening, even allowing us to do a single glass of a bottle only selection because she wanted us to experience the perfection of the pairing.
It's gonna set you back a cool thousand dollars, but it's more than just a meal, it's experiencing the passion of a team who cares about their art, and something that you can't find anywhere else in the south. It's worth it. While I'll say I prefer the French style of a chef who thinks he's better than me and wants to challenge me with every dish, my wife says this is her favorite of any michelin starred place we've been because of how friendly and inviting everyone is.
Simply put if you love sushi, have the money, and don't plan on being in LA or NY anytime soon, you owe it yourself to give Hayakawason the chance to rethink what an omakasi experience can be.

What an incredible evening - we had the most fun and delicious experience celebrating my bf's birthday. Never had I ever had Uni served the way Chef Hayakawa prepares his dish. Just one of the many stand-outs across all of the omakase dishes including the delicious Toro, Shima Aji, Sake, and more. We loved the option to add on more nigiri and use the appetizer sashimi for the nigiri. Of course, not only was the food incredible, but where the experience shines is in Chef Hayakawa's personality making us laugh all night. Also, huge shout out to Monet as well for the great wine recommendations - do not sleep on the rosé! We would 100% come again. Thank you to the entire staff for a special night.

Wow!! I am a T-shirt and denim, 64 year old stetson kinda guy. I just moved to ATL and have experienced globally, third world dynamic cultural cuisines and establishment 5 stars, with many other types and levels of cuisine, none, really none compare with Hayakawa-san and his staff; traditional, fresh, fine and amazing. Each palate of fine art to articulate my taste buds was explained by Hayakawa-san and Monet with information about the origins and type of each fish and dish with perfect paring of dry to licorice saki by the Matre de/ Sommelier. The side tea and supporting dishes were perfect in action by the supporting staff, truly a smooth team. The Uni is the absolute BEST, prepared by Hayakawa-san, anywhere, globally. The "green caviar" was crisp and fresh. The guests I met were each truly genuine, with the exception of one that continually compared her Chinese ancestry to Japan in general, I felt the guests next to me and I were slightly annoyed and she detracted from the amazing traditional Japanese entre and experience. It was greatly appreciated that the policy of Hayakawa of no colognes or perfumes was great, which allowed the aroma of the hot dishes and saki true enjoyment. The absolute best ATL has to offer, if not the best traditional Japanese experience in the USA.

Came with my wife for a birthday celebration and the food was incredible. There wasn't a dish that we didn't enjoy (some we liked more than others) everything was paced well and Art kept us entertained throughout our meal.
If you have the budget, very much worth eating here.
Please note: you have to prepay your meal and there's no cancelations allowed so just be sure you can make your reservation before you eat the cost of the food.

Chef Haya-San creates amazing food before your eyes and is very friendly and chats easily with diners. This experience was both luxurious and unpretentious- A rare combination and a rare find. I hope to eat this well in Japan! Do not miss the uni special. It defies description!

I have had the great pleasure of visiting Hayakawa twice – once before receiving their Michelin Star, and once after.
The award could not have gone to a more humble and deserving person. The space and the menu is not only the expression of Hayasan’s unending passion and 40+ year journey through sushi, but also the ultimate expression of artisanship as a whole.
Every detail of the space and every element on the plate is carefully sourced from Japanese craftsmen and experts who, like Hayasan, have dedicated their life to the pursuit of perfection.
The meals I have eaten here I will always hold very dear to my heart. If you love food, and more importantly, if you love the things that make us human – to eat, to laugh, and to love – I implore you to come here. You will step back through the curtain a different person than the one who walked in.
I must also note that the staff also deserve special praise of their own. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and truly masters of service.
And I have the utmost respect for Hayasan for not changing his prices AT ALL after receiving his Michelin star. He could easily charge double for the “prestige” of his award, but the price has remained the same because, in his own words as he said to our group tonight – “The Michelin Star was not for me, it was for all my customers who supported me.”

I planned the perfect weekend for my husband, including the perfect dinner at Hayakawa. I paid the $900 when I made our reservation. We got dressed up. I even rented a Ferrari for the occasion… my husband’s dream night. We arrived, super excited, but only to be turned away. They tried to email me at 4:00pm on the day of the reservation and I missed the email. They said they needed me to confirm my reservation and when they couldn’t reach me, they cancelled our reservation!!!! On the day of!! After I had already paid $900 just 3 weeks earlier. This is a fraud. What could possibly more of a confirmation than paying the $900 in advance?!?! Our evening was ruined…. I let my husband down. I feel terrible. Thank you Hayakawa for this miserable night. Thanks for taking a nice loan from me for 3 weeks and not delivering on your end of the deal.

Was looking for the best Sushi experience I could find in Atlanta and many different websites and forums all seemed to recommend Sushi Hayakawa.. It was my brother's 30th birthday and I recently landed a new role for a job so I said why not splurge a bit to celebrate..
Aesthetics and service: 5/5
The aesthetics of this place are very unassuming on the outside, but the inside is absolutely lovely and very intimate. There were 4 reservations for our time slot. 2 at the sushi bar and 2 at separate tables for a total of 8 diners. The chef (Mr. Hayakawa himself) worked behind the counter and narrated the entire experience. He was very very friendly and didn't embarass me too bad when explaining how awful my chopstick abilities were.. He stuck around and took pictures with everyone and chit chatted afterwards.. It was great. The rest of the staff were SUPER attentive and friendly. I immediately felt connected to the older woman who was helping serve us and chased after us to say good bye.
The food:
My brother and I were quietly contemplating this experience for a bit in the car afterwards.. We were asking questions like.. Was it worth the price? Have we had better meals in our lives? What did we like, what did we not like?? -- At some point I realized my face was hurting because I had been grinning and smiling for 3 hours straight.. I don't want to rate each individual dish but more-so as a whole. This meal was unlike anything I had ever experienced and every course was either a 4/5 or a 5/5 -- I will say that my favorite dish was the Hamachi after debating this relentlessly in the car. We were trying to pick our favorites and kept running into "But! What about this dish? -- Oh I had completely forgot about that! " -- Insane food quality.
Was it worth the price tag? For me.. Yes. Price is relevant to income so take that however you want.. but even if the price tag IS a stretch -- I would still think the experience is worth it (at least once if this is way out of your budget) ...
Thank you staff and thank you Chef Atsushi.
You'll see me again!

If you’re looking for AUTHENTIC sushi this is it. Chef Hayakawa is one of a kind. I’ve been dining with him for years now and nothing in the city compares to this. I’m an avid foodie and tend to eat at the best sushi places everywhere in the world when I travel. Haya San is hands down one of the most passionate in his craft and shows in his food. The intimate connection during the meals are always great. Definitely deserves a Michelin star.

Even better than anticipated. There are only 8 seats at the bar right in front of Chef Hayakawa. We loved the interaction with Chef and his personable approach. I thought he might just talk about the food but he invited all types of questions on his history and approach. While I don’t think he cares that much (cause I asked) let’s hope he gets at least one Michelin star simply because it’s deserved (not that it matters cause it won’t change how amazing this place is).

Honestly one of the worst Japanese foods I had in my life.
If there’s an option to give them negative stars, I will.
If I kept enough evidence, I’ll report them to the better business bureau for fraud.
You can tell that the chef is going for the hyper-pretentious “Omakase” experience, with the conversations and little souvenir.
However, when you start to taste the food they serve, everything collapses into a cheesy talk show.
$300+ Omakase with 4 nigiri and a bunch of strongly seasoned dishes. For the nigiri, knife work of the chef is very sloppy - inconsistent shape, portion and orientation in each cut. 2 of my nigiris had connective tissue (tendon? Diaphragm? Something super chewy in the fish). I’ve had better sushi with 10% the price, no kidding.
Another example is the scallop dish. It was Hokkaido scallop smothered in an overly pungent yuzu-miso sauce, and lemon zest. It’s possible to make scallop and citrus work. But not like this. The hero of the dish, which is supposed to be the scallops, can barely be tasted.
Outrageous detail - their wasabi is served from a FROZEN container, not thawed, with ice crystals. I feel like Gordon Ramsay in Kitchen Nightmare - I want to ask “is it frozen” but I don’t have to, because it’s still frozen when I ate it.
We had some surf clam that is also ice cold. I suspect they got it from the fridges in H-mart. Not even Duluth H-mart, I mean Doraville H-mart.
Now to the good: There’s a yasai broth that is DELICIOUS. I guess they have a talente sous-chef or something. Maybe the chef should retire.
I wish the chef spend more time on cooking, less time on the show (the chit-chat, the “how is mister so and so” and the microphone)

A late review but after trying other Omakase places around, I can confidently tell you that this is the BEST Omakase experience you can get in Atlanta. Haya San (the chef) is very knowledgeable, and unlike other chefs who are relatively quiet during the preparation, he tells you everything about the food, and his life, and answers all your questions. The price tag is there, but the quality (and quantity) of the food, and the chef's engagement truly make it worth it.

I had the pleasure of visiting Sushi Hayakawa several times during my stay in Atlanta from 2019 to 2021. This restaurant undoubtedly offers an unparalleled authentic sushi experience, so much so that it became my go-to place whenever I missed the flavors of my native Japan.
The mastery of Hayakawa-san is not just limited to the fantastic taste of sushi, but also his craftsmanship is a sight to behold. From shaping sushi to arranging them into a beautiful display, his artful performance adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the whole dining experience.
Despite the significant hardships that Hayakawa-san might have faced during the COVID times, he has upheld the quality and service of the restaurant, which is truly commendable. If you are looking for an authentic sushi experience in Atlanta, Sushi Hayakawa is the place to be. Five stars!

Great experience. As others have said, I think it is the best sushi experience in Atlanta. But if you think it's ridiculous to pay $1000 for dinner for two, then you should not go. You need to forget about the price and enjoy the experience. If you can't do that, it's not for you.

Sushi Hayakawa IS Chef Art Hayakawa. Of course there are things to be considered that have serious weight when discussing an evening out for a meal but you come here for the Chef. To start Hayakawa is from Japan and does not let his roots forget him as he regularly goes through the added effort of obtaining items from his homeland. This reason alone should be worthy of a visit and any protein normally unobtainable to me is worth seeking out. He also shown loyalty to us in Georgia and has refused offers to share his wealth with other cities in what I'm assuming would be more lucrative demand. For this I am thankful. A dinner here is an experience and one that deserves your full attention. They have made rules to keep you focused although if you struggle with not checking your Facebook while here then you are at the wrong place. Chef is quite the character and one you appreciate only through sitting with him for a service. It was a blast to interact and for serious fans like myself I can only describe it as star struck. The flavors and textures created are delicate but also deliberate. Similar to French style cooking many take time and layers to develop. However, simple preparations come faster and result in a freshness through the raw fish. There were not as many nigiri courses as expected but was thankfully rewarded with heaps of seafood in other versions. A soup and desert course bookended our meal and rounded out one of my favorite evenings ever.

Amazing experience, fantastic quality, and definitely worth visiting. Hayasan is an incredible host and made the evening incredibly special. Every detail of this place is top tier and definitely is up there with the greats in New York / Chicago / LA.
Oh, and you definitely will leave full with a big smile on your face.
Thank you for an incredible evening and really looking forward to the next time!!

Two people ate about 16 pieces of sushi and paid $1000. Personally, I don't want to go there again. Is there anything on earth worth more than $60 for a piece of sushi? I think it's an omakase course worth around $120 per person. This is an absurd comedy. Payment is completed once the reservation is made. The 20% tip is also automatically paid. After that, there is absolutely no cancellation or refund, and no change of schedule. If you have any friends who are planning to book here, I would like to give you some advice. It will be the worst experience of your life...

One of the things that makes Sushi Hayakawa in Atlanta so special is the chef's extensive experience and expertise. Chef Hayakawa has been in Atlanta for over 30 years, and during that time he has honed his craft and developed a deep understanding of Japanese cuisine.
His passion for high-quality ingredients and expert preparation is evident in every dish that comes out of the kitchen. Whether he's slicing sashimi, grilling fish, or crafting rolls, Chef Hayakawa takes great care to ensure that every dish is both visually stunning and incredibly delicious. My favorite bites were the OToro “fatty tuna” (this was an add on, and it wasn’t on the menu) and the Uni , which we chose to go with the hand roll.
In addition to his impressive culinary skills, Chef Hayakawa is also known for his warm and welcoming personality. He takes great pride in his work and loves nothing more than sharing his passion for Japanese cuisine with others. There is always something new to learn from him.
Since it was a Valentine’s Day dinner, the chef also gave all the women at the table. A single rose to take home.
Overall, Sushi Hayakawa long tenure in Atlanta and his dedication to his craft make this restaurant a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience.
Parking is also simple and easy. park in the parking deck and take the elevator up to level to level two. You can also get your parking ticket validated from the restaurant.

The highest level Japanese Omakase experience anywhere... and by far the most incredible dining experience in Atlanta. Hayakawa is a bucket list destination for any foodie.

I have dined in this restaurant many times..and the sushi is some of the best that I have ever had...BUT they are getting way too carried away with themselves...the last time I ate here Omakase was about $150 per person..up from $125...but $315 is kind of ridiculous...I know prices have gone up on everything...but double..come on...I eat in great sushi restaurants all the time and nobody is this high...yes they bring in much of their fish from Japan..but so do other restaurants..
I just can see eating here any longer..by the time I am done I will be walking out of here with over a $700 bill for a party of 2 with tip....Sorry...but great sushi is great sushi...but this is just way out of line

The setting was really calm, clean, organized, and incredibly relaxing. The attention to detail from all of the staff was on point. All the ingredients were expertly sourced as the owner is also the head chef and he was very happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. I definitely did not leave hungry so I appreciate the portions and different variety in the dishes. Lastly, there was just a clear sense of pride taken in creating the whole experience and that was something we felt as guests. Would definitely recommend 👍

Couldn’t resist the opportunity to eat at the new location in the Star Metals District in Atlanta’s West Midtown. The new restaurant has beautiful and modern decor in a very intimate and cozy setting. All the food in the Omakase experience was exquisite and delicious.

One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Stunning mix of sushi and other Japanese dishes, beautifully prepared. Certainly an experience above pretty much anything else in Atlanta.

This is the highest level Japanese Omakase experience you can have in Atlanta, and one the best I’ve had anywhere, from NYC to Tokyo.
Ambiance is perfect, there is a very cozy lobby you can wait in before or after dinner so no need to be cold waiting for an Uber.
Food was an amazing journey from appetizer, to sashimi, nigiri, hot and cold Japanese dishes ending with an amazing dessert.
Hayakawasan was very fun, positive, skillful and informative.
Many of the dishes I had were the best expression of that dish I’ve ever had.
Highly recommend, I’ve been to most Japanese places in Atlanta and this is hands down the best and most authentic.

Easily one of the best and most unique dining experiences you can find in Atlanta! Chef Hayakawa is one of the most personable and charismatic people around and the cozy, but luxurious setting, allow you to truly get to know him. The food is obviously out of this world and the Omakase is a delightful culinary adventure. Can't recommend this place more, don't let the price dissuade you because this is 100% worth it.

I recently dined at a sushi Omakase-style restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere was intimate and elegant, focusing on traditional Japanese decor. Haya San was highly skilled and provided a seamless and enjoyable dining experience.
The omakase menu consisted of various nigiri and sashimi, each piece expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful, with a particular highlight being the delicious yellow tail, which was melt-in-your-mouth. The sushi rice was perfectly seasoned, and the wasabi was uniquely crafted.
The service was impeccable, with the waitstaff being attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The staff provided excellent customer service and ensured that our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. With only 8 seats, the space was very intimate.
Overall, I highly recommend this sushi Omakase-style restaurant for anyone looking for a high-end sushi experience. The quality of the fish and the skill of Haya San are exceptional, and the intimate atmosphere adds to the overall dining experience.

This is truly one of the most incredible eating experiences the city of Atlanta and the US has to offer. Chef Hayakawa and his staff have mastered serving a delicious upscale dining experience while at the same time making you feel at home. The food is fantastic and having the chef in front of you to talk you through every plate makes it that much more special.

Not only was the food great, so was the entire experience as Haya San engaged with us throughout the meal.
Would definitely be back when the occasion arises

while the sushi was definitely high quality, there wasn’t much uniqueness or novelty to any of the nigiri’s. We also found the uni was past it’s BB date in the package.
additionally, the decor and utensils were very dated and plain. I would price the experience at $150-$200 for two; not the >$550 paid.
if you value extreme covid-safe protocols and value that above else, the price mostly goes to that aspect i feel.

Reservations open at 12:00 pm on Sunday for the week. They do 2 seatings each on Friday and Saturday. There were 8 people at our 6:00 seating on Friday, June 24, 2022. You pay up front when you make the reservation. It was $215 per person for omakase and $60 per person for a sake flight, plus tax and tip, which they automatically include for you. While it was nice to try 3 different sakes, I would recommend just getting a carafe or bottle of sake instead of doing the flight. You get more for your money that way.
Very unassuming from the outside. In a strip with plenty of parking. I wore a dress and my husband wore khaki pants and a button down shirt. You could wear jeans. Just don’t wear perfume or cologne!
Chef and owner Haya San was extremely nice, so funny, and of course so knowledgeable. There were two other people working and they also were great. Chef Haya San talked us through the meal, told us where he got his ingredients, the proper way to eat, and was so willing to answer any questions we had. He made it very personal. He involved everyone, asking us where we are from, wishing us a happy anniversary (we put that it was our anniversary when we made the reservation), etc. You’re definitely paying for the experience too and the chef made it a wonderful experience.
Every bite of food we had was exquisite. The fish was fresh and so delicious. The wasabi was the best wasabi I’ve ever had. It wasn’t that nasty paste you get at most sushi restaurants.
This was a great experience with the highest quality food and I was comfortably full after. I highly recommend. It’s a lot of money to throw down, but it’s worth it.

Had an amazing experience. The chef is SO nice and engaging. Really goes out of his way to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. The Sushi was AWESOME and FRESH!!! The sauces and accompaniments were well balanced. In the Age Mono course the skin on the fish was crispy even though it was in a broth. So why didn’t I give it 5 stars. I took away one star for overall value. No matter how much I enjoy and experience I try to be somewhat objective in my review. I’ve done several tasting courses, below and above this price point. This was my first Omasake experience, so I don’t have another Omasake experience to compare it to as far a course number and prices, just other tasting experiences. Though the food and service was amazing and I personally didn’t mind paying the price; In my opinion, based on the size and number of courses, I think the price was a little disproportionate. With the 20% tip that’s added( which I don’t mind at all), the total is about $265-$270 per person. There were 10 courses which were small to medium( in the tasting course world ). For the price I would like at least 2 other courses-they could be small. Or drop the price just a little. 😊 But again Amazing Experience, No Regrets!!

We went here for my birthday 🎂 it was a very exclusive experience! One of my top sushi places in the states. The restaurant is not fancy but authentic. The seafood quality is brilliant! And the chef is super knowledgeable and friendly. I’m both happy and sad for him that they will relocate to midtown. For me, Sushi Hayakawa is even better than Shiro in Seattle.

Very salty, almost no fish in rolls, worst sushi ever experienced. This review is NOT for Sushi Hayakawa which I thought was EXCELLENT and worthy of 5 stars, but rather for some awful wannabe sushi restaurant near the Emory campus. It proves you cannot trust reviews.

You will never want sushi anywhere else again, except maybe Japan. It's the most fantastic experience and the food is beyond incredible. It was my first omakase dining experience and it seemed intimidating before we got there but he made us feel very comfortable and explained everything as we went along from how to pick up the pieces to which order to eat the parts of a dish. When going to a place like Sushi Hayakawa, you go in with a set of expectations. This place is not for everyone, but for the type of person that seeks a unique and unforgettable omakase experience, this is probably the best place in Atlanta.
The level of service and care that the staff take to ensure the comfort of patrons was the highest that I have ever experienced post-COVID. Extreme care was taken to ensure that guests are distanced, bathrooms are assigned to each party to reduce contamination risk.
Mr. Hayakawa has a transparent plastic panel separating himself from the guests, however he wears a microphone connected to speakers to ensure that guests can hear him and communicate with him.
Eating at Sushi Hayakawa is not just about the food, which by the way is the best sushi you can get in Atlanta, it is about the experience and the stories that you will remember that night for many years to come.
Visited 3 years ago
The seasonal omakase was extraordinary last night, even compared to past experiences here. Nestled in an unsophisticated Buford Hwy shopping plaza, Hayakawa has set the standard for Japanese cuisine in Atlanta for decades with super-premium sushi in a small and intimate setting that has expanded with their COVID protocol, which limits seatings to just fourteen guests a night. While we found the pacing to be a bit brisk—dinner lasted a little over an hour, with some courses arriving just before the previous departed—it matched chef's engaging, lively, personal style. Truly, one of Atlanta's very special gems.

Chef Hayakawa is not only talented at his profession but he is also an amazing host and performer. The time that I had was more of an experience than just a simple dinner and the quality of the fish was exquisite.
Well worth the cost and I will be coming back for the seasonal menu.

Chef Hayakawa and his staff provided a memorable experience. The sushi was the best that we've had in the USA and on par with what we've had in Japan. We could definitely taste the freshness of the ocean. I was able to cross sea grapes off my foodie bucket list, and I was delighted by the bursts of flavor and popping sensations. The uni and hotake were delicate and had a clean taste. It was impressive that the Chef flies in the high quality seafood from Japan and knows the origin details behind each ingredient. For example, knowing the size of the original blue fin tuna and the portion share needed for his restaurant. The tuna had a buttery texture. Overall, an exceptional dining experience that was reminiscent of our Japan travels and worth every penny.

This was a great experience. My wife and I came for the Omakase to celebrate our anniversary. This was easily the best Japanese meal I've had outside of our Japanese honeymoon. Due to the limited capacity it was very intimate. Every course came with a story and some fun conversation. I won't go into too many specifics but essentially every dish was incredibly fresh and presented in a unique way. Great food made even better as a whole experience. I was teleported back to Japan for a night. It was awesome.

We were so excited to try sushi hayakawa based on the glowing reviews that my ailing, elderly father drove an hour to our house to try it with us.
We ordered 2 bento boxes to go, one with sashimi and one without and 1 salmon donburi. The sashimi was good, but that’s just sliced raw fish.... kind of hard to screw that up unless it’s bad fish. The napkins were really nice and the presentation was good. The rest of it was terrible, absolutely terrible. Even the grilled steak was bad! It was so inedible that we threw basically everything in the trash after a few bites and went to Chick-fil-A instead. When you spend $250 on a meal, you expect it to at least be edible! I don’t know if we were just really unlucky with the menu we got or if other reviewers just somehow convince themselves it’s good rather than admit they too wasted their money on hype rather than substance. For us it was a massive waste of food, time and $250. We will never give sushi hayakawa another chance to swindle us again.

We just visited sushi hayakawa for a birthday dinner. The fifteen course meal was amazing, every single item tasted amazing. My favorite items were the miso glazed halibut, uni covered scallops and seared tuna. The Nigri was amazing but the shear variety of dishes / creativity of the combination of ingredients was crazy.
The food was amazing and the experience was even better. Chef Hayakawa was so nice and funny. At the end of dinner he actually took pictures with everyone in the restaurant, you leave dinner feeling like you have a new friend! I look forward to seeing chef Hayakawa again!
Second visit to sushi Hayakawa again another 5/5 some more comments
There's a reason that sushi hayakawa is the consistently ranked in the top 5 restaurants in Atlanta. Every single small dish that was served tasted great.
Like most good omakase dinners there was an awesome monk fish liver dish, uni dish, tuna flight, and octopus plate. The dish that took me by most surprise by how flavorful it was is the fried yellow tail jaw in vinegar sauce.
As expected of the top rated sushi restaurant in Atlanta every piece of nigiri was awesome, you can tell Haya san is a master sushi chef (30+ years of experience, he started as a teenager!), he assembles and cuts his fish faster than any other chef in town.
Obviously the food here is delicious, but the number one reason this is a top 5 restaurant in Atlanta is because of how great of a host / entertainer Haya san is! He's a genuinely nice guy, and talks to his customers the whole time, cracking jokes, explaining how he makes the fish.
The best part of dining here is that it feel like Haya san is your friend, he takes time after the meal to take a selfie with every customer and even adds them on Facebook!!
I highly highly recommend dining with Haya san if you ever have the chance, you will really enjoy the experience!

Fantastic. Have had sushi of all levels all Japan, in NYC, Taiwan, LA, SF...etc. this is probs the best in ATL..authentic, real, and fresh and legit ingredients. Hayakawa-san is also super friendly and makes high end sushi a less intimidating experience for the first timers. It is pricey for Atlanta but when it comes to sushi and good quality fish, it is actually a very good deal if compared to even places in Tokyo.
Also covid protocols superb. safe and clean.

Fresh and delicious food, warm and friendly service, and ample spacing during COVID. The omakase menu is focused on mainly small plates, not just nigiri. Looking forward to dining here again!

As someone who has travelled to Japan 9 times and eaten sushi all over the country, this is one of the top sushi meals I've had in the US. Atlanta is very lucky to have a place like this. The experience is traditionally Japanese, and chef Hayakawa is an incredible sushi master, who entertains along the way, and is a pleasure to eat with. The fish is freshly sourced from Japan, with a high attention to details that separate the good from the great. I can't wait to eat here again!

Sushi Hayakawa, hands down, is one of my very top spots for high quality sushi in Georgia. I've been coming here for years and the quality, as well as service, is still one of the best. You get sushi in its best state with no flares and additional toppings that take away from the fish.
I had surprised my beloved for his birthday and opted for one of the omakase options, as it was his first time. Everything was superb; the omakase had the right amount of food with great timing in between dishes. We managed to still have room for dessert! Chef Hayakawa was a delight, as always.

Given two seats of disrespect for a $750 tab. We chose and paid a premium for the Chef seats, meaning you are paying for the experience and, partly, the food at this restaurant. If you reserve Chef Omakase and are given the sous-chef, that is beyond an insult. I will never return upon this insult and the Chef asking for reviews from Instagram influencers is disgusting. I wanted so desperately to love this place as my weekly home, but I know they can not repair the disgust and insult they accosted upon me.
To the average joes, try this place as your special night out once a year, but people of taste and means, the price is to lure one timers for that grand visit. Your experience, to those discerning, is not worth your time nor tab.
Go to Bacchanalia, where taste and decorum is accepted and appreciated.

Service: Warm, sweet,
Food: all Sushi are fantastic.
Noodle are worse than yakitori jinbei, so basically below average
Be patient because food are coming very slowly.
Atmosphere: Quiet and enjoyable
Authentic Japanese
Price: overpriced
The biggest problem is its sushi's price. Very very pricey.
I had a single dinner( one person) for $108! Compared to Taka sushi, I think the price is overcharged.

While it is pricey, I would highly recommend the "Honkaku Omakase" experience.
This place has some interesting rules on perfumes/fragrances, phone usage and reservations, but I actually really appreciate it as I believe it resulted in a more relaxing and enjoyable experience. Their FAQ is very clear on what you should expect while dining there. Don't let these rules discourage you from going.
Finally, I really loved all of the cultural information they shared with us during the meal. They provided loads of useful information on the dishes and thoroughly explained proper dining etiquette.
