Tomo Japanese Restaurant is the premier destination for upscale Japanese food in Buckhead. We offer the finest and freshest fish in town, served with a contemporary and intimate atmosphere. Our chefs are dedicated to providing you with an unforgettable experience that will leave you wanting more.
We also offer take-out orders for those who want to enjoy our delicious food at home or at work.
We ordered dinner delivery on NYE on the earlier side. We wanted to treat ourselves to the "best sushi in town." Well, what we got was $100 of inedible, disgusting, and hazardous non- "sushi": hack job on the salmon and the yellowtail (did they have the dishwasher butcher sashimi-quality fish? because I have not seen this cut before at even gas station sushi selection); scale and bone found in salmon avocado roll (almost accidentally swallowed: again, who cleaned and butchered this fish at a top sushi restaurant)? Yellowtail cuts had connecting tissue on that. You can see photos. We were so disgusted by this that we could not touch the rest of our order, and we won't be able to enjoy sushi for a long time because of this unsavory experience. It used to be one of our favorite dishes, and this place ruined it for us. Door Dash immediately refunded our money on account of "food preparation issues," but we also informed the restaurant and were told to expect a call from the manager/chef. We have not received a call or an apology. I am not sure how this got through; I just wanted to make the restaurant aware of this. Very disappointing.

Attended the Tuesday Tuna cutting ceremony with a party of 12. The staff was friendly and accommodating. From beginning to end, everything we ordered tasted delicious. We had the special tuna cuts, cocktails, appetizers, sushi rolls, and dessert. I would love to come back for happy hour or lunch to try more of their delicious menu.

The portions are small and pricey but very very good. It is an experience to go and have such wonderful food prepared. We went with mostly fish and it was all delicious. We did try the lamb chop and it was amazing. Because we were there for the first time, we wanted to try a variety of dishes, so we concentrated on appetizers. The meal would have been far less expensive if we had had more main dishes, but it was a great dining experience and I would not change any of our decisions.

During our recent trip to Atlanta, one of my weekly sushi cravings hit hard, so we decided to try Tomo. My husband and I categorize sushi spots depending on our mood: super casual, mid-range chic, and Really Fancy™ (this is usually when we're doing omakase). Tomo definitely falls in the mid-range chic category, in my opinion. It was bright and fairly busy with the first shift dinner crowd. We were seated at a nice window table towards the back of the restaurant. To start, we ordered the Kampachi Serrano (kampachi sashimi, garlic, Serrano pepper, and yuzu soy sauce) and the Hanabi, which was a crispy rice topped with spicy tuna, crunchy garlic and Serrano pepper). For our mains, we decided to get two of the Chef's Signature Rolls: the Oceans 6 and the Garlic Pepper Toro Roll. Everything was DELICIOUS. So fresh, interesting flavour profiles that I haven't really experienced with sushi rolls. I don't think the food stayed on our table for longer than 10 minutes, we absolutely inhaled it, it was that good. The service was great, too. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and very patient with us when we changed our mind a few times (it's so hard to choose sometimes!). If you're looking for quality, fresh fish with dynamic and bold flavours that won't cost an arm and leg, then I'd recommend checking out Tomo. We will definitely be going back to Tomo the next time we're in Atlanta!

I visited Tomo for girls night out and I was not disappointed. First, the service was AMAZING! The service topped everything outside of the lamp chops (delicious). The environment was upscale casual and comfortable. I would visit again for sure. The only down side, this could've been poor reading on my part, but only valet parking was validated. If you parked in the adjacent deck, it is not validated by the restaurant.

Came here for my birthday. Everything was excellent and we treated with respect. Very much enjoyed my experience and plan on coming back.

I came here with some friends for my birthday and decided to go with the tasting menu which included a wide chef's selection of small plates that added up to about 6-8 courses, we enjoyed a variety of things including waygu, raw oysters, salad, dessert, sashimi selection, and sushi.
Everything was very good but I only wish that there was less time between courses as it felt like there was often a lot of down time between one plate and the next, I also wish there was more sushi incorporated into the tasting menu. Regardless, it was all very delicious and found the fatty tuna to be my favorite, even more than waygu.

After coming from a background of authentic Japanese cuisine from family and friends I cannot accept any restaurant BUT , I was blessed to be serviced by the upmost hospitable server and associate of the establishment by the name !of MITZ !! Aside from the lovely care the menu , options and quality brought me to a point where I can reminisce on what was a memory. Food may
be just another meal to others but to me it is something that is worth of my efforts . I can strongly say if you are looking to see how far your efforts paid off , check this establishment out !!
Michelin recommendations don’t come from just the food but the efforts put in from all , quality of product, and most importantly the love that comes into creating what it is now !

This is an overpriced sushi place with food quality ok, but their policy on adding 20% tip and 3.5% credit card processing fee is ridiculous.

The food was amazing!!!
We went here for my partners birthday, she had the 250 omakase and I the 159 6oz wagyu.
The timing between the dishes during the omakase could be a bit faster. I also really enjoyed the cocktail menu, the white lotus flower drink was very interesting. I also think the restaurant could use an upgrade on the bathrooms. I found myself having to go to the hotel a lot of the time.

Maybe it was an off day when we visited. Our server seemed very occupied and in a rush of things did not bother to introduce us to the menu and their options, specials and so on.
The bigger disappointment was the food. Fish in the sushi-sashimi selection of chef’s choice were not fresh and poorly prepared, sushi rice was also lacking flavor and seasoning and was cold to touch. For the price tag on things, we were expecting at least better quality rice. Shrimp shumai was also fried a little extra and had too much oil from frying.
We feel this could have just been an off day given the positive feedback from many friends alike, but It’s hard to believe everything was a miss for us.
Really loved the atmosphere however

Some of the best sushi you can get in Atlanta. There is variety that is not often found in every sushi restaurant. The Toro was phenomenal.

Their sashimi is excellent. Their rolls are also really tasty. The presentation is on point, and the balcony is nice. Their cocktails were middling, but I only tried four of them. I may be missing the yummy ones.

For a Michelin recommended restaurant, I was very disappointed. I will start off with that there was an alive stink bug in our salad, which is 1. Horrifying and 2. Completely unacceptable for an establishment of this caliber. We received an “I’m sorry” and had a small discount on the meal, but I am not sure that even close to makes up for it. It honestly turned me off for the rest of the meal. Especially since we were eating mostly raw fish, it definitely had me worried about quality after finding live critters in our food. I was overall disappointed and will not be back nor am I going to recommend it to anyone. There are 100 other sushi restaurants equally as good in Atlanta that won’t have live critters crawling in their food.

I recently visited Tomo for the first time. I was there for a birthday dinner. I've been looking for a dining experience to match that which I had in Tokyo and Tomo is the closest to that. The atmosphere is swank, but not overpowering, meaning you can actually hear your conversation. The food was EXCELLENT- light, flavorful, and filling. The only issue was that my steak was a little chewy on the last bite or 2, but that might be because I was eating slowly.
I loved everything about it and will be back.

Writing this review because I want to see this place improve and achieve the greatness it is clearly capable of.
Starting with the positives: the culinary expertise and ingredients are top notch. Of note: the seared abalone with truffle! Spectacular and exotic fish from Japan (and even live Maine lobster sushi!). Also the lighting and the space are nice, atmosphere wise - the table lamps really provide nice ambiance when it gets dark outside . Personalized menu with my wife’s name on it for her birthday was a really nice touch.
Areas for improvement: I reached out to plan an Omakase seating for my wife’s birthday. Originally chose $300 PP Chef’s Table Omakase. 2 days prior to our reservation I was told that the pricing for that special seating had changed to $400 PP - felt like the classic bate and switch. I originally agreed to it, but then changed our mind out of principle and chose the $250 PP table-side option. Felt like the whole thing was weird, and they should have just honored my original request. At any rate, was still excited for the dinner despite this.
Greeting upon entering restaurant: wasn’t the most professional from the hostesses, have had better greetings at Chili’s.
Service was fine and friendly, but expected better from a restaurant of this caliber. They had to check our Omakase menus to see what they were supposed to bring us next. Also, we asked for sparking water and the first bottle they brought wasn’t cold. To be fair, our waitress noticed this and asked the bar tender if he could do better - to which he said that was all they had at the moment haha. She remedied the situation and came back after a couple of minutes with a cold bottle, but why did that all have to play out in front of us?
Again, no complaints about the food, all
was spectacular.
Drinks: cocktails and sake were good.
Valet: brought my keys to our table before we paid the bill. It was only 9:45 PM, but they made it seem like we were closing the place down. I mean, is this what time things shut down in Buckhead on a Saturday night? I pulled out my walet to tip the valet while still seated at the table, something I've never done before.
Overall the dinner was overpriced
for the experience. You just
expect top notch everything at that price point. Would love to go back if they can improve all of the ancillary details.

Occasion: Birthday Dinner on a weeknight
Service: Excellent- we were sat at a table next to the sushi bar. Our server gave a great explanation of the menu and crowd favorites
Food: Great! While it was not the best fish we’ve ever eaten, the freshness was slightly better than other sushi restaurants in the area. The menu clearly indicates imported fish, and it was great to try fish we don’t typically eat. Our favorite was the tuna tartar appetizer, for the combination of flavors.
Portions are on the smaller side, so I would advise saving this for more special occasions if you’re used to putting away large amounts of food. Would come back again

This place is not worth the hype. If you know sushi, this place does not have the quality standards. I just literally spent over $600 for two here and left quite disappointed. We ordered omakase for two for $200 per person. The lady told me to order a more expensive omakase for $50 more which was $250 per person which was supposed to be better but nothing came out that tasted or felt like was worth the 500+ dollars Which i felt extremely disappointed. The A5 wagyu that they brought out also was literally the end fat piece of the ribeye and it was cold by the time we got the meat. I don't mind spending good money for great food but this was just unacceptable. The server and her service were below average. The server put her own 20% included in the meal for two people. Which was pretty unprofessional. I always leave minimum 20% at every restaurant if not more. She didn't have to do that. I know there are way better omakase experiences besides here. Im just speaking of the Omakase and not their different menus. Maybe i thought to highly of TOMO and got disappointed. Owner is just on her computer at the bar in front of guests. Not a good to see at a supposed to be “high end restaurant”

Went to Tomo for a weeknight dinner with some friends. Wasn’t crowded when we arrived and we were served quickly. Our server was very helpful, recommending a variety of items on the menu. We had tempura and the crab jalepeno for appetizers. The crab jalepeno was less spicy than we thought it would be. We ordered a variety of rolls and all of them were exceptionally delicious. 24K roll and Ocean 6 were are favorites. We also did the table top scallops toban yaki which was quite flavorful. The Okinawa sunrise cocktail was also very tasty. Overall, we left full and happy.

The most nonsensical place ever! They were cleaning the entire bar and the food preparation area with bleach. I'm highly allergic to bleach, and as soon as I walked in, I could smell it. I immediately asked the server if they were using bleach. She responded, "I don't know." I requested her to check with the chef because my throat closes up when I smell bleach, and it's really dangerous for me. After talking to the chef, she confirmed that they were using bleach but had finished. Despite taking allergy medication, they started using bleach again during my dinner. When I got home, I felt unwell and had to go to urgent care. It's absurd to use such a strong cleaning product in a small place during business hours, especially after I informed them of my allergy, and they showed no concern. It was a horrible experience; I could have died, and they didn't care. “ This is the picture where they were using bleach, even with people in front of them “

I really really enjoyed myself here. Their food was really fresh. The service was great. I put four stars because I typically get a little bit better experience when I sit at the sushi bar from the sushi chefs. And I did not get that and I spent more than I would’ve spent on omakese for 3 people, other than that it’s really great.

I was out and about looking for delicious sushi and a friend who lives nearby recommended Tomo. By far, my favorite sushi place in Buckhead. The service was great; I sat at the bar and Olivia and May helped me decide on my roll (Ocean 6). So good - healthy and fresh - great recommendation for the roll given that I was going for a healthier roll and leaner fish. For apps, I also ordered the crab jalapeño roll and the tuna roll. The crab jalapeño roll has huge pieces of fresh crab and was delicious! The tuna roll was simple yet tasty; you could tell the tuna was fresh. For sake, Olivia let me sample the Otokoyama sake which I ended up ordering it hot. Loved the atmosphere, the food and service. Also, valet is validated. Highly recommend and I’ll be back soon

Came here with my wife and daughter on a Friday night and had a very good experience. We started out with the Crispy Calamari which was very good (but I wish it had a few extra pieces).
We got 4 rolls: 24k, Hanabi, Garlic Pepper Toro, and Ocean 6. The 24k roll was the star of the show and was amazing. Hanabi was very good crispy rice but not the best I have had. The Ocean 6 was very good, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the Garlic Pepper Toro.
We had the Chocolate Mil Crepes for desert. My wife and I liked it a lot, but my daughter was mixed. It isn't very sweet (like most asian deserts), so you need to have that expectation.
Overall we really liked the place and would go again.

“Tomo” is our favorite sushi restaurant in Atlanta, hands down. The food is HEAVEN, the service is impeccable, and the ambiance is unparalleled (And we know our sushi well as my husband is half-Japanese)!! While modern & upscale,” “Tomo” feels high-end without being pretentious - It’s a warm, welcoming, and down-to-earth place while still being sophisticated. Above all else, “Tomo” has something that no other restaurant has and that’s Candi Hoang, the restaurant’s owner. Candi has personally gone above and beyond to take care of our family, to accommodate very special circumstances, and go to every extra length to ensure we have a perfect and enjoyable experience. She truly cares about her staff and her customers, and she is a rare gem of service, kindness, and compassion. “Tomo” is what it continues to be because of Candi and we will absolutely be returning for years to come because of the experience she ensures. Run, don’t walk, to this spectacular place. You’ll enjoy every second!!
Thanks, Candi! You’re the BEST. :)

After several good meals over the years we recently had a quite poor experience. The food was fine, but the service and atmosphere showed that Tomo seems to be suffering from complacency. Here are some of the issues:
1. They sat us next to the busy water refill/silverware cabinet, despite many other tables being available. The waitress (who was actually one of the few highlights) graciously allowed us to switch tables, but why would you even sit people there to begin with when there are better options. And yes, we had reservations, despite them not being necessary.
2. Imitation crab was served with the sashimi lunch entree. Really? I was fine with letting the chefs choose the specific fish, but apparently that trust was misplaced.
3. It ended with the disinterested hostess looking up from her phone to say no, they do not validate parking for the garage next door.
Maybe these wouldn’t be issues for some folks, but if Tomo wants to keep its reputation for being a decent sushi place it will wake up and spend more energy on the experience it gives diners. Until then we’ll go elsewhere.

When we walked into Tomo, we weren’t sure why Tomo was on so many top restaurants lists, but now we really don’t know why. Our first red flag should have been the fact that they had so much availability on a Friday night in Buckhead, but we figured since college is out, maybe it’s quiet this time of year. Our second red flag should have been the laminated menus, but we thought maybe it was a no-frills purely good food experience we were in for. Boy were we wrong. After eating our appetizers and while the waiter was standing at our table, I noticed a cockroach crawling on the booth next to me. I told the waiter, and the response of the restaurant staff was gravely unprofessional and unapologetic. First the waiter walked quickly to the back, then a gaggle of restaurant staff stood behind the counter staring and whispering. Our waitress came over with a napkin, chased the cockroach around the booth, and then crumpled up the napkin and walked into the kitchen. I’m only about 50% sure she actually caught it. Another staff member tried to explain that they had just bug bombed the restaurant the day before, so that’s why they were all coming out. Um, why are you serving food if you have a roach infestation? We then had to physically approach the staff gathered behind the counter to ask for the check, and the waitress actually asked us if we wanted them to take the food that hadn’t come yet off the bill. Then a manager came out and immediately started saying, “Oh it’s because of remodeling the sushi bar,” and when we mentioned that this is a health violation, he then said we wouldn’t have to pay for our dinner. Also, the roach was not very big, maybe the size of a nickel, which indicates it is young and probably has many siblings around. In the end, we did not even receive a single apology from anyone working there.

Woooh wow. The food was super tasty and I had really great time there. The price was super expensive of course because I guess that’s the hype of fusion Japanese food. However, the servers, food performance, cleanness, and taste was so good. Just be aware, it’s very expensive! But it’s definitely worth it for some celebration.

Very low quality place.
2 pcs of Uni were $26, but total quality was almost equal with to-go place.
Service was horrible as well. At the time I ordered I asked to serve hot sake with Appetizer. But they served hot sake very first, appetizer second, Uni sushi third, and then finally gave us salad and soup very late… When she served our Uni, our uni was tumble down. And suddenly she picked up my spoon and tried to stand it up… what a glorious moment…

Excellent quality food. Ordered both the Omakase and the sashimi 16 pc, both were excellent. Would recommend to a friend looking for a quality sushi experience in Atlanta.

Great experience for my girlfriend's birthday dinner! Food, service, and atmosphere was excellent

Definitely not worth the price, fish didn't feel as fresh as we expected, dishes were less unique compared to other places. The only thing that stood out was the sake toro, but for the price go to nobu instead

Tables are very close together, providing little privacy if having a nice evening out. Sushi was very good but could use more variety of rolls.

I love the omakase experience and each one is different. We were seated with another couple in a sectioned off part of the bar so you're still listening to the hustle and bustle of the restaurant while listening to lounge versions of popular songs. The food tasted fresh and delicious. My favorite dishes were anything with sashimi, the chawanmushi, and the sawara arugula salad. I forget the cocktail names now, but they incorporate Japanese whiskey, sake and yuzu flavors into their cocktails, and they were all delish. The chef disappears into the kitchen between every dish but still prepares everything in front of you. Our menus had our last name on them, so very cute and personable. We went for a birthday dinner, so I recommend it for special occasions due to $$$ and length of time. I'm curious about coming back for a standard dinner because I feel like the food would be just as amazing. They don't validate parking unless it is after omakase meal BUT the parking deck is right next store, and you can self-park or valet. I would definitely come back to the restaurant but probably for a regular meal, again simply because of the $$$. I would reserve omakase for a special occasion but that's just my opinion.

The quality of omakase is relatively good but it's too pricey... very tiny/small 18 pieces of sashimi costs $150.00 which I think I was completely ripped off

First time Omakase experience, and Tomo did not disappoint! Tried flavors and ingredients I've never tasted before, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Drinks are delicious, food was delicious, service was stellar, and overall great experience. 10/10 would recommend!

This is my favorite sushi spots in Buckhead. Tomo is great. They have geat atmosphere and unique sushi for dinner you can't find elsewhere. But it's also a very reasonable lunch option for sushi too. And their consistency is admirable. It's always delicious.

Really an amazing experience. The sushi chefs were friendly and knowledgeable. I said at the sushi bar and was not disappointed. I had the sushi sashimi combo which you see in the picture posted here. The fish was fresh tender and it was a fairly good selection. I recommend anyone in the Buckhead area check it out.

Yumi, the waitress is EXTREMELY RUDE !!! Unfortunately, our dollar was accepted, but based off her demeanor, igonoring of request for service, sarcastic comments, facial expressions and eye rolling of eyes hard enough to make her ponytail bounce, removal of candle and tsble decorations as we were eating is beyond disrespect.

Good experience at sushi bar. Looking for California sushi quality . This is the closest I have found compared to local options. I do not consider any cooked or tartar seafood on menu as sushi (yes UMI…. I’m talking about you).
