Tori Bar is a local Japanese gastro created by Izakaya Tori on S. Dale Mabry Hwy. we want to bring up Asian infused craft cocktail, Japanese whisky to match up with grilled to perfection Japanese style skewers and our specialty hand rolls with freshest ingredients.
Opened in place of the old fly bar Tori takes it up another level. First they did great job of changing the theme and upgrading the decor. Second the food comes out fast and fresh. A lot of the food is small plates. Third the cocktails are crafted expertly. When there are many people in the restaurant usually bar tenders do not get enough time to craft the drinks well. That was not the case here. Our server was attentive and checked up on us just the right amount. The only issue was that hostess who showed us to our seat was clearly bothered by something while she tried to help us and did not respond well when we asked a question.

I’ve been here before but returned to give their happy hour a try (to see if it’s worth maybe celebrating a birthday here) and everything was amazing! Great ambience, delicious food at great prices. Everything was fresh and fulfilling. Will definitely be back, thank you Brooke!

This is such a nice spot. Food was fresh and delicious. Drinks were amazing. My friend lost her card and the staff was looking all over for it. They even offered to take her number in case it turned up. Excellent service. Great vibe for date night or chill night with friends.

I wanted to share some feedback from my recent visit, as I really love your food—it’s always amazing! 🍽️ However, the service this time was quite disappointing.
Our server didn’t come to check on us for a long time, and he never asked if we needed anything else. We were left waiting for chopsticks and other essentials while our food was ready.
We also ordered a bottle of white wine, but he just brought it to our table unopened and left without offering to pour it for us. It felt like he didn’t want to serve us at all. Maybe it was something about us that didn't seem appealing, but it really affected our experience.
Even the bartender across the room saw we were waiting and came over to get us what we needed. I really wanted my birthday celebration to be special since I always recommend your restaurant to friends and family.
I hope this feedback helps improve things because I truly love your food and want to keep coming back!
Thanks for listening!

We had a 45 minute wait on a Thursday at 7:30 P.M. The presentation of each item we ordered was fast and more importantly delicious! Highly recommend the scallops with truffle oil and the Fatty Toro. The smashed cukes were perfect to nibble in between each item. The sashimi offer 3 generous perfect slices of your choice of fish. We did order a bowl of sushi rice for the table. The Lychee Martini was a bit too sweet for me, the Shishito Pepper Margarita was interesting. Uni was not great that night, however the rolls and everything were above our expectations. We highly recommend you go with the expectation of waiting outside for awhile to enjoy conversation with your friends before your table is ready. Our waiter and the team who served us were excellent!!! Inside the restaurant was too loud, so we were excited to enjoy our meal in the lovely well lit courtyard.

lychee highball is my favorite
i also ordered the lump crab meat, cucumber, and avocado hand roll which was good
& my friends ordered the Mentaiko Fries and Chicken Karaage to share
(the tuna fish cutting was for the restaurants one year anniversary celebration)

Sooo, Tori Bar was a nice dinner with a unique twist on how I usually have my sushi. The atmosphere was lively, though the bass in the music was so loud you could barely hear the actual song. The sushi is served in what I’d describe as a taco style with dried seaweed, which makes it a bit tricky to share if you’re with someone you like to share plates with, like me and my sister. I’d recommend it as a fun spot to try, but I’m not sure I’d revisit.
What was ordered:
Shiso Rangoon: Creative and tasty
Chicken Gyoza: Yummy
Duck Breast: Can’t go wrong
Sashimi: Interesting

Every time I’m in Tampa I make it a point to eat here, cucumber salad is so so good, truffle scallop rice, wagyu beef is fire, plus our server Natalia was super cool.

I have fond memories of my trip to Japan and was excited to see a Japanese-style bar in Tampa. Tori has great potential, but unfortunately, it was plagued by service mishaps from the start.
We arrived an hour before closing, which seemed to be the excuse for the lackluster service. Dessert came out before any of the plates we ordered, so we sent it back to the kitchen. Drinks didn’t arrive until towards the end of our meal, which was frustrating.
That said, the food was delicious. We tried the izakaya skewers and hand rolls, and I highly recommend the scallop hand roll with truffle paste and black cod—both were outstanding. They were out of Wagyu (disappointing); the karaage and other small plates were decent. However, we weren’t able to order another round of food because the kitchen closes well before the stated restaurant closing time.
When we finally requested dessert again, the crème brûlée was cold on the inside, clearly straight out of the fridge, and they didn’t even bother to warm it.
The ambiance was okay, and it was packed on a Sunday night, so the spot clearly draws a crowd. While the food quality was impressive, the service issues leave me undecided about returning for a meal—perhaps just for drinks next time.

UPDATE - They finally booked the saxophonist again. When we got there last night, we asked to be seated outside and close to the music. Host refused to seat us at a regular table and only a high top. The high top was located in a spot you could not see the musician! We asked again to get seated at a lower table and even though there were three empty, she refused saving for larger parties. We left and tipped the musician the $100 we were going to spend at the restaurant. We stood outside for a half hour and listened to the music while two of the three tables stayed empty. We won't return unless we have a "larger" party.
Wonderful time! Wonderful setting! Amazing food and drinks. Service is unmatched, ask for Taka! Live music! This is why we live in the city! Zeta the Babe played tonight, saxophone, amazing drinks! Would rather do nothing else on a Friday night downtown.

Obsessed. I love small plates and getting to have a little bit of everything. Have done late night, happy hour and dinner and great service and food all 3 times.
Cocktails are great too! Hand rolls are generous. The skewers I’ve tried have all been good, both meat and veg. Their karaage is good too and can’t even remember everything we tried. But nothing was disappointing. Good vibe. I’ve gone for HH with my laptop to finish working and sat at a high top. And a vibey date night spot too. Can’t really go wrong.

Tori bar has been on my list for a while now! We decided to come for my birthday. Everything we ordered was amazing! We chose to sit outside since we knew they were having live music..covers of songs from Alicia Keys, Neyo, Beyoncé etc. my favorite! Since it was just us two we were sat at a smaller high top table. With tapas style plates, our drinks, it would have been nicer to have a bigger table but we made it work. Only order 2-3 plates at a time. Even just ordering 2 at a time works because the food comes out pretty quick. The service was top notch, quick, empty plates being removed quickly. Everything we ordered we LOVED! We can’t wait to come back. (List of things we ordered)
Lychee Martini
Yellowtail crudo
Spicy edamame
Rangoons
Tuna avocado hand roll
Spicy tuna hand roll
Steak skewer
Duck skewer
Braised pork belly skewer
Matcha brûlée

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had.
The dining table was extremely small and had space for only one or two appetizers. Ironically, they used large plates for small portions of the food like fine dining restaurants which made the situation worse. Some of the dishes were served into our hands for us to figure it out by ourselves since there was no space on the table.
Most food was okay but all of the skewers we ordered had zero flavor. We had to ask waitress for salt, which took quite long, and we had to eat the remaining skewers cold.
We did not get to order sashimi - the waitress asked us not to order it because the plate was larger than the table.
The owner obviously does not drive otherwise it would be very difficult to understand why they always choose to open restaurants without parking. We do like Izakaya Tori (at least they have normal sized tables) but the parking is so bad that the restaurant next door needs to hire someone to watch their own parking lot and tow everyone who park there and go to Izakaya Tori.
This is probably an okay place as a bar if you only go there to drink. The restaurant should either get some normal tables or change their tag from 'sushi restaurant' to 'bar'.

First braised pork belly skewers came out incredibly fast, but we actually found that they may have had it sitting as it was room temp. All other skewers were good, Chilean sea bass though seemed quite salty. Waitress was very attentive during the eating part but took something like twenty minutes to just get us a check.

Sat at the bar and food was great. Japanese whisky selection was above average. Bartenders seemed a bit stressed out … perhaps they were shorthanded that night or their no-reservations strategy backfired. If you’re looking for a chill experience to sip and savor, try an off-night.

I was excited to try the Tory Bar for the first time. We went without a reservation during the week and the inside was full. It would be a 20 minute wait and that is normal. We initially thought we would sit at the bar. But after sitting inside for a few minutes, the noise level was just so loud we decided to sit outside.
So we were seated at a table outside. It took 25 minutes until someone came to our table and gave us menus. The person that eventually waited on us, walked by our table at least six times and never stopped to say anything.
We placed our order and the food came out in a very reasonable time frame. We ordered a variety of items off of the menu and everything that we ordered tasted fresh and good. However, it is a very limited menu and lacking items you would find at a Japanese restaurant. I think the push to try to be different is a little too much. My rating for food is based, both on The taste, quality and the selection.

Tori Bar is one of the most fun eating experiences I've ever had. I loved the style of ordering small dishes to try. They served the dishes quickly after ordering each time, and it was a bit addicting and satisfying to order another small dish! I liked trying the different hand rolls and skewers, everything tasted great and there was a fun variety. I also tried hot sake for the first time, which was a fun experience and complemented the food well. We had the yuzu panna cotta for dessert and it was a delicious, light way to end the meal.

The ambiance and service were fantastic. The cocktails were interesting, would definitely come back for happy hour. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the gyoza, it tasted as if it had been frozen. The duck skewer was nice, but I enjoyed the yellowtail and jalapeño temaki the most out of all of the savory dishes. The matcha crème brûlée was by far the best dish and it was delicious. I want to come back again after they have been open a bit longer, I think they can step up the food a bit. I think the sushi dishes are better than the hot dishes so far.

Tori Bar is a great addition to Tampa’s exciting restaurant scene. It is owned/managed by the same people who owns Izakaya Tori in South Dale Mabry. The area looks small but it has plenty of seatings on both sides and the back. Unlike its sister restaurant, Izakaya Tori, Tori Bar has a large bar area where you can order cocktails and food. The prices are decent when compared to the newly opened restaurants in the Tampa Bay Area. Service was fast but friendly and attentive. We went during happy hour from 4-6 pm. Happy hour menu was extensive with a good selection of food and drinks. Our first couple of orders came out within 3 mins of putting in an order! Everything we ordered was delicious. The plates were shareable with generous portions. The Truffle Scallop Rice Pot is a must. We ordered different grilled skewers and they were all great. The only thing we didn’t like was the King Oyster mushroom. It was tough and didn’t have enough taste. I will definitely come back and will try their other dishes. We spent $35 each including tip, hot tea and dessert. We didn’t have any problem parking on the street but we came early. By the time we left around 5:15 pm, the restaurant was almost packed.

Here’s how my experience went. Let me preface by saying Izakaya Tori which this group also owns is wonderful and DOES serve nigiri. The atmosphere at both places is fantastic and so is the quality of the fish as is the value for what you get.
Unfortunately the service at this place was horrendous.
1. Sat at bar and ordered a drink
2. Asked if the sashimi could be ordered as Nigiri, was told “no we don’t do Nigiri here but you can order a side of sushi rice”.
2.1. I’ve never been to a high end sushi restaurant before that did not serve nigiri style sushi…
3. Three women asked me to scoot down one so they could sit together which I happily did, Unfortunately the new seat was directly behind a pole that took up half the width of the bar, oh well.
5. Sushi came, fish was incredibly fresh and tasty albeit extremely annoying to have to form my own rice for nigiri… I did have to ask for both chopsticks and a soy dish because no one brought me either at any point.
6. Server/bartender disappeared never to be seen again after ordering sushi and the only person on my side of the bar was a bar back who repeatedly topped off the glasses of the women next to me but never even looked over at me to refill my glass or ask if I was ready to pay/get another drink.
7. After about 30 minutes, a random server came over and asked me if I needed anything, I said “yes, the check please.”
8. He came back and asked “what did you have” which I pointed out to the best of my recollection at that point.
9. He came back with a 125$ tab that had multiple martinis and other things I did not order.
10. Then came back with the correct tab, I paid and left, frustrated I had just paid 80$ to make my own Nigiri and be forgotten about sitting behind a column at a very nice sushi bar.

This is my all time favorite spot in Tampa for price, value, food quality, uniqueness, AND atmosphere. The line is never super long and the food is always good. I bring all my friends here if they’re looking for a fun, interesting, casual restaurant to go to. Would highly recommend this place

Try to go early because it does gets packed quickly. I got the Japanese fried chicken, lamb chops, pork belly, hamachi crudo and thought it was all good and the miso old fashion was tasty!

Great food and drinks. Their sister restaurant izakaya tori has great food as well.

Highly recommend coming here for their dinner menu. They have big selections of skewers and sushi. The price is a bit expensive but the quality of their sushi is totally worth it. Each piece of sashimi is fresh and melts inside your mouth. The truffle rice is super delicious. The service was quick and friendly. We sat outside since it was super busy inside. The parking spaces is limited, but not too bad since the places nearby are closed. If you like skewers, I would recommend coming during happy hour. There’s a smaller menu, but the skewers are super reasonable. Also, I love their Yuzu Panna Cotta. I love the tart and sourness. The strawberry jam and fresh strawberry helps with the sourness. If you like more of a sweeter side, their matcha crème brûlée is delicious. You can barely taste the matcha, but overall, sweet. It’s been very hard to find a good quality sushi and so far, this place is the best in Tampa.

The ambiance is beautiful. Great vibes for dinner date or girls' night out. Very cute quaint outdoorsy area to sit at if requested. Hostess was sweet. We opted for the bar inside. Took a while to get recognized and felt that we were a burden immediately to the bartender. Seems odd considering there were quite a few working and on a fairly slow Tuesday. Not very personable and didn't offer recommendations or anything knowing it was our first time. I thanked her multiple times throughout or meal, but she would just turn around walk away. We also ordered drinks, but the food came out way before the drinks were done which was confusing. We got the gyoza, fried chicken, and burrata. Everything very delicious. Location is optimal and has great potential to grow and have a full house on any night, but the service needs work. Specifically, the bar. Everyone else was attentive (servers, expo, etc.). We even had to ask a passing staff member for forks because our bartender was just simply not interested in us. I probably wouldn't return just based on lack of attentiveness. So many places to visit around this area and downtown who are thrilled to serve you and put pride and passion into their work. Other than that, we had a good time. I wish them the best of luck and hope to see some improvements!

Was surprised to see Fly Bar close, but Tori Bar definitely does an incredible job of holding their own and offering something unique. Of course you can get your regular sushi and sashimi options, but there’s something about hand rolls that make the experience a little bit better! The skewers are a great value and option as well, with a large variety of options to appease any pallet.
Definitely recommend getting a hot or cold plate to share, then ordering a metric ton of skewers as the entree and a nice hand roll as a treat!

Tainted by the experience of a 40 dollars parking fine... was there from 9 to10. Street was empty. 2 cars besides mine.

The food 10/10 the beautiful place, but it is a shame that they do not have friendly people willing to provide good service. The truth was that it was my first time going there and the truth is we had no idea that the food came in small portions to taste and I asked questions to the waiter and you could see his annoyed face giving curt answers, it also took a while to bring us the cocktails We called the waiter and asked him again and he was very rude and he didn't take that order and then they reluctantly brought the drinks and the waiters pointed at us and looked at us with a bad face.

A nice dining experience for those that love Japanese cuisine. The truffle rice pot is unreal. I also recommend the truffle scallop hand rolls. All sashimi is fresh, and delicious.

Tori Bar has the one of the best Happy Hours in Tampa in my opinion. The atmosphere is great, the service has been good when o have been there. Sit at the bar and ask for Neil! He’s an absolute gem and a very attentive bartender.
The fish and sashimi is very high quality. Their Uni and Scallops are definitely fresh and delicious. Couldn’t ask for a better Izakaya in Tampa.

Food is what you would expect to have at bar, but slightly better. Definitely tastes better than expected. I recommend staying till happy hours. There is a separate menu for happy hours and you can order skewers, which is fun to share. We ordered couple of cocktails. The matcha martini is on the sweet side and very easy to drink, tastes like matcha latte with little alcohol. Our server is helpful and frequently checked up on us. The place is well decorated with some good photo spots. Nice ambiance. It is a little noisy, but thats normal at any bar i guess. Located in a cute little area, close to river walk. Right across from UT.

If you’re looking for good sushi, don’t come here. I got the chirashi bowl for $25 and it was truly such a disappointment. The fish quality is mid at best and they serve it with regular rice instead of sushi rice - I have never heard of a restaurant charge this much for a chirashi bowl and it be this bad of quality. Also got a side of bluefin chutoro for $17 and again, quality does not meet the price at all.

I was very skeptical of this place since it was new and was branding itself as a bar, which usually means mediocre food. After dining here, I can emphatically say that I was wrong. Nothing that we ordered missed in terms of taste and quality.
Our favorite bites were the eggplant, chicken thigh with scallion, and pork belly skewers. The miso glaze on the tender eggplant was so addicting, the pork belly was also tender as butter. We ordered multiple eggplant and chicken thigh with scallion if that says anything. The tuna in the hand roll was amazing as well, all around great food.
Eating outside here is a bit disappointing since there were a number of loud vehicles on Kennedy so close to the dining area, and the music was blasting so loud as well. Our server recommended the octopus hand roll, but it was too chewy for our taste so I would avoid that if that’s not your thing. We will definitely be back to eat some of the skewers and hand rolls, what a great addition in a nice area.

This new establishment has definitely turned it to one of my favorite spots in the city. I love that they have options with small bites for cheap prices and also bigger entrées on the more expensive side if you want to fill up. Their cocktails are absolutely amazing. Literally every single one is so so delicious. The service here is really good too. Everyone is very well informed about the menu and can explain everything to you.

I Just finished my 3rd visit to Tori Bar in less than a month. I’m obsessed. I was hesitant abut this place, because until now, there were only two options in Tampa for Sushi subpar or insanely over priced Omakase. I’m happy to report this is no longer the case.
The food is unbelievable, including both the sushi and hot items. I was shocked at how reasonable the pricing is. I was also happy with the quality and freshness of the fish and the generous amount of fish in each order. The wagu skewers blew my mind. Random as heck, but one friend ordered the fries and they were incredible. I’ve tried a significant amount on the menu and the only thing I didn’t care for was the octopus. I’ve been twice for happy hour and love the Lychee highball. If you’re into it, they also make their own club soda and it’s awesome. I call it “super soda” because it is extremely carbonated.
I would also like to note the service. It was truly top tier. They have a ton of staff working and it’s like a well oiled machine. The food comes out quickly and searing hot. I’ve had three great servers. And I like that they have a two hour limit on tables so it doesn’t turn into a bar where people hog the tables all night. So there might be a wait, but you will definitely get seated.
I am happy to have a new go-to spot in walking distance.

One of my favorite restaurants in Tampa! Their food is fantastic, flavorful, and high quality. I have so many must order items, including the Hokkaido scallop hand roll, hamachi crudo, panna cota, sashimi, and mentaiko fries. They restaurant as a while just continues to improve, with each new visit getting better than the last in terms of taste, timing, and service. Their cocktails are also amazing, each having a unique Asian twist to them! I cannot recommend it enough!

The food is so delicious, especially the scallop truffle rice pot is to die for. My special shishito pepper margaritas pair so well with my dinner. I also had spicy tuna and eel temaki, which is very good, too. Chutoro sashimi is fresh. I will definitely be back to try out different dishes.

This place was loud and over-priced. The way food was brought out to the table was weird. We ordered lots of different things. Several veggie and steak skewers and lots of different sushi items. They each came to the table at different times. When the waiters came they would announce what they had but, since it was so loud in the room you kinda had to guess what they were saying then look at the food to see if you could figure out what they said. The food was ok. Nothing special. The best thing going for this place is the way the restaurant smelled. Wood-fired oven scent.

Hottest new spot in Tampa. Great vibes, great food, great drinks, great decor, and great service! I love coming here and the prices are very reasonable.
The menu is set up well so that you can get multiple small plates to try new things - appetizers, hand rolls, and kabobs.
I recommend the cocktail “Green Day” - so refreshing.
They also have a late night happy hour which I will be attending.

The place was packed but so cute!! Love the vibes. Gotta say food was good but the portion sizes for the price was eh...$8 for 1 sushi roll that was barely a roll. We got to try someone's fries that were literally just fries drizzled with sauce on top. The drinks were tasty though and Natalia was awesome..very friendly and helpful
