Rose & Ivy, a Pan-Asian experience - located in the heart of Downtown Sarasota - providing the highest quality steaks, sushi, cocktails and more! With one of Sarasota's largest outdoor patios, we are a headquarters for great happy hours, events, late night, and banquets! Three floors with NEW experiences in each. Enjoy!
Fantastic little place with excellent seafood and meat options (although we did not explore those).
We sat at the bar and Christina was awesome. Never stopped moving, constantly making drinks and checking up on people, while simultaneously clearing plates and waiting on the high tops as well.
The sushi is excellent, and they have some great options for sashimi and nigiri as well - a lot more than just the boring tuna, salmon, and hamachi at every other sushi place. We got the chutoro and salmon belly; unfortunately they were out of the striped bass that we wanted. Our only complaint would be that the chutoro was a little frozen, which significantly diminished its flavor. But everything else was excellent, as were the panko oysters that were a special that night.

Had an excellent dinner with my wife for her birthday while we were visiting Sarasota. Staff was friendly and attentive. Service was efficient and well timed...but most importantly, the food was excellent! The ingredients were fresh and prepared to perfection. It's obvious the chef is passionate about his dishes. Highly recommend. Reservations also recommended.

We made reservations (4) here for dinner before attending the opera next door. This place has been numerous restaurants over the years and I think this one will stick!
Parked nearby in the Palm Ave garage. Easy access to the restaurant. Most of the on street parking in the area is limited to 2 hours and we were going to the opera afterward.
We were warmly greeted and we opted to sit inside. The interior had a nice vide/ambiance and a small bar that seated 6-8. Tableware was nice and the mood relaxing inside and not overly loud so easy to converse. Tables were spaced a little close then we like but it did not cause a problem.
The outside seating on the side looked great and we'll try it in the future (this would be a great spot for live music). Small bar out there that seats 4 along with some couches. The street front parking would have been a little to close to traffic for us as the restaurant is looked at a busy intersection (albeit low moving traffic and next to the opera). There's also an upstairs with tables and a sushi prep area.
Our waiter was Jordan. He was attentive and not overbearing. We were never rushed. He did a good job. Service from all the staff was on point.
Good variety and selection on the menu on both food and cocktails. The place is billed as sushi, steaks and cocktails and that was consistent with what was offered. All the portions we got were good and we felt like we were dining and not there just to eat. There's no bread provided for the table which was fine by us. Food came out promptly with good presentation and temperature.
For appetizers the rock shrimp tempura, beef spring roll and guacamole/chips both had a excellent taste. Shrimp had a little kick. Spring was more fried with an excellent tasting filling.
For mains one ordered the salmon and two of us split the sashimi for two. Salmon was perfectly cooked and had a nice compliment of risotto. The sashimi had a nice variety but seemed a little light on the quantity of fish. What we got tasted very good.
Cocktails consisted of Scooter on Duty (Coconut run base), Mochatini (expresso base) and an Old Fashioned. Scooter on duty was basically an Old Fashioned with rum and was very good. The Mochatini was smooth and creamy.
Overall a great experience.

My girlfriend and I recently had an incredible date night at Rose and Ivy in Sarasota, and I can’t recommend it enough. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the trendy yet classy vibe, making it the perfect spot for a romantic evening. The service was excellent—attentive without being overbearing, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed.
We started with the poke tuna, which was fresh and full of flavor, setting a high bar for the rest of the meal. The sushi, though, truly stole the show—it was some of the best we’ve had in the area. On top of that, their specialty drinks were crafted to perfection, adding a fun and sophisticated touch to the night.
If you're looking for a stylish, classy spot for a date with fantastic food and drinks, Rose and Ivy is definitely the place to go. We can’t wait to go back!

Everything was perfect here, we only had the sushi. The freshness of the fish, cuts, sauces, service and atmosphere were all outstanding. We were seated quickly, the waitress was also prompt. Other than the prices being high, there was nothing you could legitimately complain about. Well done.

Rose 🌹 & Ivy is such a a great new addition to the downtown Sarasota area! Great ambiance, excellent service and the cuisine is Devine! Definitely recommend! Indoor and outdoor seating, the upstairs is so cool, sushi 🍣 bar up there! The history of the building provides a unique space in all three areas for dining. Looking forward to going back again and again and again!! The dessert was also delicious, thank you for the recommendation 😊

Service was great - polite and friendly. Very efficient. I wish I got his name. We sat outside and ordered predominantly sushi. A blond haired male with floppy hair. He was a great asset to their team.
Food - we live on the Key and have eaten here about 4x. This is the first time in about 8 months. Very disappointed with the size of the sushi rolls. They use to be much bigger. Embarrassingly small. Probably will not friend. We did stumble upon a sushi place called Samurai a few months back. 1/3 less the price and the rolls are 2x as big and soooo fresh.

Send restaurant owner to school. The accusatory reception desk continues to instantly create delays with rudeness when table is reserved. Management must take responsibility for this attitude upon entry

We got “catfished” by the beautiful exterior, the whimsical ivy was alluring to us. We walked inside to fluorescent lighting from the neon sign hanging on the wall. We sat down and our dining table was wobbly. Menu was a paper sheet and it was stained. Looking at the menu and the prices, we were hoping this was just a fresh start up, with good food, and maybe they just didn’t have the funds for interior decor yet, trying to give them benefit of doubt. Once we received our food we realized that wasn’t the case. The food was really awful. Their sushi reminded me of grocery store sushi. The grilled octopus was a fat disappointment, very little flavor, overcooked and smelled greasy(most likely from the potatoes underneath it). The waiter was really kind and their rose house cocktail was pretty good. Would not recommend.

I live outside of Florida and wanted to surprise my mom for her birthday by covering her meal from afar. I noticed the restaurant didn’t have online gift cards available so I called them to see if it was possible to pay some other manner. The two individuals I spoke with on separate occasions — Kaydee and a male manager — were so incredibly helpful and attentive to the request. They went above and beyond to make sure my parents had a wonderful meal and allowed me to pay over the phone and surprise them. It was a small but impactful gesture. I can’t wait to try the food myself when I’m in town next time!

Rose and Ivy is a gem! We wanted a restaurant where we could order small plates and linger, and this restaurant did not disappoint. We had the salmon on crispy rice and the salmon carpaccio. Both were beautifully done. The salmon just melted in your mouth like butter. Even the rose and ivy salad was excellent.

Made a reservation through the website(which directed me to Open Table). Selected indoor seating and left comments in my reservation which were then confirmed via email. Arrived and the hosting staff could not seat us and provided nothing to resolve the issue.
As locals to Sarasota me and my party were very disappointed. I definitely won’t make it a priority to visit again or ever…

I was excited to try this restaurant after finding it on Google and seeing such great reviews. It was a huge disappointment, unfortunately. We waited an hour and a half for a couple sushi rolls, which is completely unacceptable. The staff stated there was a huge party that was taking their attention, but if they couldn’t serve the others in the restaurant, then we should have been told they were at capacity for the night and we would have gone elsewhere. After that wait and believing we had been forgotten, the food was not even good. Everything was bland - and I think they just heated up edamame in a microwave and served it to me which I could have done better at home. None of it worth the very high price. The vibe was cool, at least there was that.

Reserved a bday dinner for myself and 3 others this past Friday evening on open table. Came in 30 min early to enjoy a cocktail before being seated. Was told by the hostess numerous times she could not seat us inside (although that was the specific request we chose on open table). We are year round locals and know this time of the year the weather is unsettled as it was this Friday night and therefore chose the indoor option on open table! Rather than argue we continued on to another location for dinner. After leaving we went on open table and saw there was inside seating available 15 min after we left. So unprofessional and disappointing!!!!!!! Will not return or recommend this establishment! (The hostess proceeded to tell us the table # we requested…..number 23….. we have never been here how would we know a table number??? The date was the 23rd of August….was she reading the rez wrong?) so unprofessional

Wow, what a fabulous place, a hidden gem in the wonderful downtown area of Sarasota! If you have not tried out Rose & Ivy you should definitely put them on your LIST! The atmosphere has a really laid-back vibe, so relaxing, and the service staff were all SMILES! We really appreciated the tour of the place by our new friend Alex, WE WILL COME BACK! They have a relaxing outside and have live music to enjoy while you have one of their great cocktails. We can't wait to hear about the completion of the upstairs area, excited to find out what decision is made: speakeasy, bourbon bar, lounge, etc! The options are endless! For those unaware, there are hidden "gems" upstairs that you should ask about on your next visit! (Hint: The Greatest Show on Earth).
Thank you to Alex and his staff!

We have been here 3 times in the last few years. Although the restaurant has been under 2 different names, the menu is basically unchanged except for the names.
We just had dinner inside and had very similar experience to the last 2 times. Starting with they were out of the only two fish entrees on the menu at the very beginning of dinner service. (6pm).
The sushi is surprisingly small portions and quality despite premium pricing. Our waiter did a great job of steering us away from entrees that he felt would have been particularly disappointing in terms of quality and portion. The fact that he felt compelled to volunteer that tells you everything you need to know about the food.
Staffing was odd. 3-4 hostesses milling around the entrance, but one bartender who was swamped from the start of the night. Clearly some management issues behind the scenes. Kitchen quality was below par as evidenced by a bao order half of which was insanely overcooked and the waiter’s warnings that protein temps were not likely to be on par with what we ordered.
Drinks were solid, but the fact is you can go just about anywhere and get better quality and value sushi and fish dishes. We didn’t try the beef or pork dishes, but at the posted prices, I’m confident there re better options downtown.
It’s a great location, but the mgmt and kitchen just can’t seem to get things together to deliver appropriate quality and value regardless of the names they put on the dishes. I’d go to Kojo every day for not much more cost, if any, and massively higher quality.

I wanted to start off by saying I had food but it did not last for a photo. It was the 16oz Ribeye w/ the black garlic compound butter. The steak is so good it doesn't even need it. This was the first steak I have had in 12 years and it was worth every bite. The food is amazing and I will be back again to eat.... and drink of course haha.
I came to visit my friend and had some amazing cocktails and an original one from him aswell.
I had a brief conversation with the owner as well very kind and intriguing fellow.
The place is such a cool and hip place with great atmosphere.
I hope to visit again.

Went for my 54th birthday. Worst steak I've ever had. First I ordered the 12oz filet mignon but 10 minutes later I was told they were out. They suggested the New York strip and again 10 minutes later I was told they were out. 3rd time was not a charm as the worst ribeye on earth arrived at my table. It's was inedible. The manger answer was to ask me if I understood marbling. Me and my wife literally couldn't eat this meat. So on to the sushi. Not good as we eat sushi several times a month and have never once complained. Go to ginza which is an all inclusive and it's 100 times better. I will admit the appetizer of crispy or crunchy tuna was good. I tipped the waitress 20% because she was sweet and horrified that she had to come back 3 times about not having the cut of steaks I ordered. We shall never return and how they got a 4.8 rating is fraudulent. They must serve really strong drinks to make people forget about the quality of the food.

We dined here for my husbands birthday. Our reservation was for upstairs. When we arrived on time, we were told there was a slight mixup, and we could only be seated downstairs. Our waitress was very nice, Veronika. We ordered a 12oz filet mignon, seaweed salad, crunchy tuna, one pc of salmon roe and a double tuna roll. Veronika came back after we had the crunchy tuna roll, which was Delicious btw. She then came back and said she apologized but there was no filet mignon, would we like NY Strip? We said sure. She came back again to tell us there was no more NY strips left, would we like a ribeye? We said sure. When the food arrived, the ribeye was over seasoned, the fat edged the steak more than any other rib eye I have ever had before. It was inedible. The salmon roe tasted off. The double tuna roll was 2/3 filled with thickly cut cucumbers. It should be done with 2/3 tuna piece, 1/3 FINELY sliced cucumbers. It’s $26! Put in tuna. We’ve eaten at some very prestigious restaurants in the world. We wanted to give a local establishment a try. We were VERY disappointed. The manager took the steak off the bill, but he didn’t do much else to make the dinner any better. Veronika was lovely, and none of this was her fault. It makes your waitstaff look bad when they don’t know what steaks are available in a steakhouse. How do you run out of 2 steaks in a steakhouse in the midst of a dinner service on a Saturday night?

We decided to go out for a Friday night without planning ahead and knowing it’s out of season- checked Open Table. We saw this new restaurant we had not been to or even heard more than in slight passing. It was outstanding! The drinks and sushi were creative and fresh and really delicious and our waitress Aurora could not have been sweeter. She gave great recommendations including one of the sushi rolls “School of rock” and it did not disappoint! The taste and the texture were exactly what we look for in our sushi. I loved that they had a cute upstairs where we sat, but also downstairs bar, outside courtyard with music area as well as “sidewalk seating” which is actually a lot cuter than it sounds. Def highly recommend this gem in downtown- we already can’t wait to go back! — eating dinner at Rose & Ivy - Downtown Sarasota.

Lovely evening. Food very fresh and inventive. Bao buns and Pink Cat were excellent. This place could coast on its great location (previous tenants may have been guilty of such) but instead this place is obviously run by talented chef, warm staff and owner who we met supervising all. A winner!

We walked in for a table for 6. The owner told us that it would be a 20 mins wait. After 30 minutes of waiting, we checked to get an update. This time, the GM (Nate) was at the front. He told us there was no way we would get a table and that we should have never been told that was an option. We were confused, since the owner told us otherwise. When we explained what the owner had said, the GM got aggressive and rude, telling us to “look around with our own eyes” and see there aren’t any tables (along with MANY other rude comments and an abrasive attitude). We have never been treated so poorly by a restaurant staff, especially for something that was their own fault.

What a place ! this is mid week off season and the place is hopping like a NewYork fashion bar. Most people are standing and if you get a table you are surrounded by groups with loud voices. Having said that, the food is excellent and the raw fish very unique and fresh. We will try to come back may be for lunch when there is hope to eat in a more serene environment.

This is the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Our reservations were at 7:00 pm. When we arrived they asked us to wait, which was over 30 minutes. At that point, we should’ve left. We continued this poor experience. It was shared that they didn’t have enough staff so we would have to deal with it. When we were finally seated, the waitress seemed extremely stressed and unfriendly. We ordered then were told they ran out of foods that were on the menu. The food took hours to arrive. If you have another option for a restaurant, go there instead! The atmosphere is nice but the service, food and staff are not worth the time.

We have been coming to Sarasota for many years and this is now going to be one of our favorite restaurants. We were eating at Clasico (another favorite of ours) the other night when we met the owner and he informed us he recently opened another restaurant around the corner that we should try out, so the next night we took him up on his advice and we’re glad we did! The atmosphere was incredible as was the food and service. We indulged in some appetizers, sushi, and our filet was amazing!

Stopped by early on a Friday evening with a friend. Were seated inside, and the place was buzzing. Great atmosphere, terrific food (we had sushi), and a really tasty margarita (next time I'll try it with the jalapeno). I'll be back soon. Want to hang on the patio with a cocktail. 🙂

Great food and overall vibe (we sat outside). We had sushi and it was great. Had a new waiter that needs some more experience but the adjacent staff assured when needed so overall it was great. Second time I’ve been here and both times the food was great.

My husband and I stopped in for a night cap - complimenting the Breakfast at Tiffany's movie running on the big screen - and returned for dinner the next two nights. We loved the tuna tacos, crunchy salmon, sliders, School of Rock sushi, hamachili, and even the newly posted dessert. Great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff - highly recommend!

Very crowded place, people are sitting on the top of each other, you can’t have conversation at your table due to how b close tables are. Service is ok, food is ok, next concern I have is cleanliness, when you look around I don’t think this place is super clean, its average clean (average is bad) so keep that in mind.
This is at best 3.5 star overall restaurant, I gave them 4 star for obvious reason.

Last night we had the best Sushi ever. We have tried Sushi at many restaurants across the country and found our favorite at Azuls. We had the School of Rock and Hanachili yuzu rolls with a Tuna Tower app. Matt, our server did a great job and we even got to meet the owner. Highly recommended!

"Fantastic Rehearsal Dinner Experience with Exceptional Management"
We had the pleasure of hosting our rehearsal dinner at Azul, and it exceeded our expectations. The venue's cool ambiance provided the ideal backdrop for our celebration. What truly set it apart was the outstanding management led by Nick Jones. Their attention to detail, flexibility, and proactive approach ensured a seamless experience. The staff's dedication and the manager's personal touch elevated our evening, making it a delightful start to our wedding festivities. Highly recommend Azul for both the charming ambiance and the fantastic team!

One of the best dining experiences I've had. I order Octopus at any restaurant I see it and this is the best I've had. Atmosphere was wonderful and the owner came out to check on us. He was truly appreciative of our business and his interaction alone made me want to come back. A must visit if you are in the area.

We are here this weekend before going to the orchestra. The food and atmosphere was amazing. We had the burger, edamame, sushi, tuna nachos and salmon…all were spot on. The new owner stopped by the table to check on us, and gave us some history about the building. He even gave us a quick tour of the room that that used to be John Ringlings office!

Sat outside in the beautiful palm tree strewn patio. Attentive, fast service. Habanero cocktail was amazing as was the Rose martini. The Sea bass melted in my mouth and the grouper special was delicious! Apps of charred octopus, ahi tuna and seaweed salads with shredded crab meat were perfect starters! Fabulous food, night and ambiance. Will definitely be back and absolutely recommend. May sit upstairs in the “speak easy” vibe room next time.

I recently had the pleasure of dining twice at Azul in Sarasota, FL and it was a great experience. The outdoor seating at Azul is wonderful - we loved the lights and ambiance. You have to try the crunchy salmon and the cocktail of the day at happy hour! Management is extremely friendly and welcoming. All the staff were excellent and attentive. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Really cute place with friendly staff. Our guy was really thoughtful in helping us make our choices.
I’m not a huge sushi person, so I ordered miso, house salad, and shrimp shumai.
The miso was perfectly savory with lots of tofu and seaweed. The salad had plenty of delicious gingery-carrot dressing, and the shrimp shumai was divine. The only word I have for it is that it felt soft and sumptuous in my mouth. 🥰❤️
The table ordered the crispy salmon which I absolutely loved! Perfect blend of textures and flavors and the salmon was buttery.
They have veggie friendly sushi too. We tried the avocado and the sweet potato. I was eyeing the tempura asparagus roll but already had so much to eat.
They had large TVs which I don’t normally like in a restaurant, but they had it on an animal show that was full of cute dogs and the volume was on zero so it wouldn’t interrupt conversation. Felt very thoughtful for if you have kids or someone who needs a distraction 😂🥰
Would definitely go back

Soooo good. Kaye (the owner) accommodated us without reservations. Cody, our server, was very attentive and made some great suggestions. Food was fantastic! We love sushi but wanted a meal. Very glad we did both! The salmon was so good and fresh. Best I've had in a long time. I highly recommend!

Great food, cocktails and atmosphere. My server/bartender was Matt & Taylor, both excellent. Spenser was very helpful making suggestions with the menu. Nick the general manager came by the table to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Overall great experience, I highly recommend having dinner at Azul!

First time dining here with my husband and we loved everything we ate. The service and hospitality were amazing. I am not one who has liked sushi, but I can honestly say I tried three different kinds here and love each one. Their spring rolls are also delicious.

They have a wonderful staff and great business personality’s very professional and chill to talk with. The bartenders are great as well as the servers and the vibe can be very family friendly as well. If you ever want to relax and dine somewhere head here to azul very chill and “homey” type vibes. Also the best part of this place is they even do private parties and events to help you branch out to other local businesses, but back to what the point of this review and rating is because they have a very promising future if taken care of right also Vito is the best food runner trained by Spenser the legend

We went in to get a love boat. Come to find out, they don’t have a love boat, which is odd for a sushi lounge. They suggested what they said to be the closest thing, a sashimi tasting. Said to serve two people. The entree is brought out and there’s 16 pieces. Split in half, there’s 8 pieces for the each of us. Mind you, the sashimi tasting entree is $62.00. The food was okay. We thought we would be getting way more. We’re very disappointed in the way our meal turned out.
The staff were very accommodating. We were put into the corner next to an obnoxious 6 top, when asked to moved, it was absolutely no problem and we scored a nice quiet table outside.

This was our first time dining at Azul. My husband ordered a fillet that was literally one of the best we’ve had in a long time, melted in your mouth and cooked perfectly. I had a tuna avocado roll that was also super fresh and excellent. For an appetizer, we ordered the tuna tower. The tuna was fresh, but the chips kind of cheapened it up. It didn’t seem to pair well with it, just our taste/opinion. The service was great and the atmosphere was lovely. They have a beautiful patio. We will definitely be back, great menu and happy hour specials even on a Saturday!

What a treat! My wife and I on a whim stopped by to try this place for some sushi and to check it out. Absolutely loved it. Very innovative menu with options depending on what you are wanting. Cody gave us some good recommendations on the menu and the GM Nick is amazing and is a true food and beverage pro. A very extensive wine list with discounts on bottles on Sunday. Check out the bar and ask what’s in the wooden cask. I did and it was amazing. It is Nicks special concoction that he needs to bottle!!!
After living in Hawaii for many years I enjoy good fresh sushi. What I really enjoyed about the rolls that we tried here is that they add unique textures in their rolls that I have not heard of before which actually accentuate the sushi experience. I mean come on, kiwi on sushi - it was amazing. Overall an exceptional experience and can’t wait to go back to try their happy hour and their extensive steak menu. If you haven’t been yet I highly recommend giving them a chance. They won’t disappoint.

One of the best dining experiences of our lives!!
I planned a proposal earlier that day and had planned to stay at Art Ovation which is just around the corner in a very short walk for dressing up in heels.
One of the most anxious decisions is where to go to dinner right after the proposal. We had been to Azul and had a good time but the worry remained. When booking the dinner reservation, I included a note that I was proposing a couple hours before and hoped they would treat my fiancée like a Queen.
They sure did! By they, I am specifically referring to the Manager, Nick and one of the servers, Alex. They were BOTH amazing and made the experience one we will never forget. I can’t thank them both enough.
The service was on point, friendly, quick, and helpful. Nick unexpectedly brought out a large bottle of champagne that he said he had been waiting to open for a special occasion! What an incredibly friendly guy! He set us at ease and later in the dinner when he saw the ice had watered down my drink, he took it and remade it for me. The spin on a Long Island was amazing! The tuna poke was incredible and the Feta Chicken and Flounder were to die for. Had some sashimi (Toro?) that melted in my mouth.
Overall, top 2 dining experiences ever and I have been on this planet 52 years!!! Great ambiance. You cannot go wrong eating here and I NEVER take the time to leave reviews.
Thank you Alex and Nick for giving us a wonderful memory of proposal day :)

Cody and the team were great. Attentive but not hovering. Cocktails and all of the food were delicious. (I ordered a lot of stuff but only took a picture of the sea bass.) We had a reservation for outside but as soon as we got our appetizers and drinks, which took next to no time, the mosquitoes came. Cody was super accommodating and let us move upstairs (up stairs; not sure if wheelchair accessible), and the transition was smooth and painless. (Fortunately they weren’t too busy.) We had a chill girls night out and I’m already looking forward to going back with my husband for a date night.

Our go to happy hour! Love eating on the patio and Carolina takes the best care of us, but the bar is great to sit at too. Their take on surf and turf, filet and a rock shrimp roll, is creative and different, and the bartenders come up with fun daily cocktails! Matt and Taylor always check in to make sure everything tastes great. Can’t go wrong!

Since changing to Azul, the food options have expanded and we have been pleased with the addition of some bar options for a quick bite, Happy hour drink and food are also available. This is a good spot for pre theater or opera meal and drink. The atmosphere is very cool with a nice out door patio. The GM Nick and Bartenders Taylor and Tony are great , very friendly and attentive, good drinks too. Plus they still have great sushi carried over from the last version in the restaurant. Highly recommend checking it out.

A gem! Gorgeous historic building with quiet outdoor large patio away from the traffic. Famous for their sushi, but this year added delicious cooked dishes. Steak, chicken, but the star of the smoked menu is Mizo glazed Chilean Sea Bass. I am addicted.
