I had an outstanding experience at Tsunami in Sarasota! The hibachi-style dinner showcased impressive kitchen prep and cooking skills. Even as a non-sushi fan, I found their sushi options delectable. The entire meal was delicious, and the meticulous food presentation added to the overall enjoyment. They accommodated our reservations seamlessly, and the server provided excellent service. A five-star dining experience!

Tsunami hands down has the best vegan sushi rolls and hibachi options I've found anywhere in the world, and I've tried many, from Vancouver or Barcelona. There's a whole Vegan Menu (genius, thank you!) ~ the Lucy, Jade and Power rolls are my faves, while the Yakisoba and Hibachi are so filling and delicious as well. Veggie Tempura, Edamame Gyoza (I like mine steamed), and Hijiki Salad are all amazing accompaniments. Then you can finish with the light but super tasty Lichee Sorbet. Wait staff are typically super nice too (kudos to Harry and Christian) and there's an incredible selection of beers (Yuzu Ale for the win), and of course Sake (try the taster for a great deal and variety). Hot Tips; ask for the Forbidden Rice option for any dish with rice and make sure to tell your server you're vegan because there are vegetarian options of some the dishes too (salad, hibachi sauce etc).

Update: we just had dinner at Tsunami Sushi again and their service once again has been top-notch. This time our server was Keira (I think that may be how it's spelled) and she was very sweet, attentive, polite, and funny.

Best sushi I've had in a while. Service was great and catered to our pace. Started with the lobster and crab rangoons. HOLY MOLY. If that is up your alley, please order. After talking with our server, he mentioned that it is one of their employees' only jobs, and I can definitely tell it is made with love. Best rangoons I've had. As far as sushi goes... mango definitely goes on sushi! Also appreciated the presentation with the orchid on top. I enjoyed this meal so much, left feeling full and happy!!

Found my new favorite sushi place!
We were greeted by the staff as soon as we walked in and the hostess Elizabeth brought us to the table
The Laminated menus were a little cheesy but that’s a minor detail they can fix easily. Our waitress Arine took our drink orders right away and gave us a rundown of some of the appetizers. In the background there was a great violinist playing music which I found very enjoyable. Our hostess came back around to suggest some appetizer platters. Overall the food was delicious and the portions were pretty big so we ended up taking food home. The manager Jason came by to introduce himself and gave us some dessert suggestions but the fried cheesecake was my favorite.
I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other rolls. They had a huge selection and very tasty combinations. Overall I highly recommend this place however make sure you make reservations because it is a small intimate location that seems to get very busy and is no wonder given how great the sushi was.

I ordered salmon sake sushi and ikura and cake and tempura sushi. The salmon sushi looked cooked and it was warm, the ikura was unusually sweet and also warm. Fantastic meal!! Started with a delicious Lychee Martini which we weren’t familiar with and very much enjoyed the pear like flavor of the Lychee nut fruit combined with the high end vodka. Our appetizers consisted of pan fried pork Gyoza dumplings with a wonderful velvety sauce along with an 8 piece Sashimi Sampler accompanied by eel sauce, specialty tamari, and spicy Sirachi mayo dips. The chunks of raw fish were significantly larger than usual, absolutely fresh and sparkling in flavor and color. Next up my wife ordered their wonderful Tiger roll and I had the Hibachi Scallop dinner which came with Miso soup and a house salad. Everything was prepared and delivered to our table with great understated but elegant presentation. All the while we were quietly moaning with gastronomic delight we were being serenaded by a wonderful solo jazz guitarist who rolled through a beautiful set of easy listening jazz and pop standards. The woman, Jami Gee, told me she’d been playing for more than 50 of her 70 years and still loves it. I wanted to grab a CD of her restaurant set but surprisingly she didn’t have CD’s on site or through the Web.
All in all this dinner was a wonderful beginning to our Siesta Key vacation. Although getting a parking place on the street in downtown Sarasota is often difficult. We’ve been here before and will be again 5*****

This place is pretty subpar. I ordered 2 California rolls with cream cheese and hibachi vegetables (just the vegetables not the dinner.) After tip it was almost 45 dollars, which I thought was kinda high.

The sushi was okay. The rice could’ve been a little stickier, the rolls were falling apart when I picked them up with the chop sticks.

The vegetables were the worst part. They were soooo burnt. So bad! All I could taste was burnt flavor. I threw them away. I was so excited for the vegetables.

They could also stand to get better lids for their to-go sauces. The soy leaked all over the white paper bag, which then ripped and leaked soy into the seat of my car. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Here Thursday night after hurricane Milton. They are open but around 8:15 were told they weren’t seating anyone anymore… then some blonde lady walked in right behind me and they seated her, served her drinks and dinner outside. We had to wait almost an hour for a takeout order while this lady was served. We
Alway spend 200-250 on dinner here for two people and the fact we were turned away is bad business. Going to Utamaro from now on they are always amazing there.

Julia was absolutely fantastic. She took care of my party of 17 for a family members birthday and we have never been more satisfied with service. She got every order on point, split our checks even, though it’s a hard thing to do with such a large party, and had a smile the whole entire time. I’m quite concerned about a recent experience at your restaurant. We noticed a stranger, a young person in a motorcycle helmet and all-black attire with a backpack, was allowed to enter and use the bathroom as a non paying guest. Not that there is an issue using the restroom, but the fact he walked around in a helmet the had a tinted mask and seemed threatening. This wasn’t ideal, especially given that this person had been loudly revving a motorcycle outside for 20 minutes beforehand racing up and down the street obnoxiously. Other customers had words to say as well to the host. Extremely drawing negative attention deliberately.

We voiced our concerns to the staff, hoping they would address the situation, but it seemed no one wanted to take responsibility of the issue (very young employees). As they continued to point and address the situation from the restaurant as if they had possibly known the person laughing and what seemed like mocking the kid on the bike. When we spoke to someone who we thought was the manager, we were told the owner wasn’t interested in taking any action to make the guests feel safe. Instead they turned a shoulder and acted as if nothing was really going on. Well it’s 2024 and I want to be able to feel safe when dining publicly.

Yes the food at this restaurant is good, the safety and comfort of guests are paramount. Given the circumstances, we’ve decided not to return sadly because we really enjoyed this spot. The owner and management had the option to make things safe and better yet after by apologizing. Instead they made us out to seem like we wanted a free hand out. “Ha”We’ll be sharing our experience on social media to ensure others are aware of how the owner and manger seem to support customers concerns big or small. In Sarasota, there are many dining options where guests can feel secure and valued, this one proved tonight where they stand.

It's wonderful that you have a whole page of vegan options, but a half of them are not vegan because those items include the Tempra which are fried in the same oil as they fry animals body parts. Please consider using separate oil for the items you call vegan.

My family and I went to eat here last Saturday, & upon ordering our drinks the waitress dropped the whole tray of drinks on my 4 year old son. Not one employee apologized or even tried to help. We had to leave because my poor child was soaked and sobbing. Not one manager has returned my call and we are going on 5 days since I called. I can’t forget to mention this place was absolutely disgusting & dirty. I would never recommend anyone eat here.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tsunami Sushi for a family member's birthday, and it was a truly delightful experience. The food was absolutely delicious! Our favorites were the Paradise Roll and Waikiki Roll, both bursting with flavors and perfectly balanced.

For appetizers, we enjoyed the Lotus Crab Rangoons, Chicken Tatsu-Age, and Edamame, all of which were equally impressive. Each dish was expertly prepared and wonderfully flavorful.

One tip: make sure to make a reservation as they stay busy. It's well worth it for the excellent food and ambiance. Highly recommend Tsunami Sushi for a fantastic meal!

2nd time here that we were treated as Reservation lepers. Last time forced to sit outside. At least the Library bums weren't there like the hoards that were here today.

The food is very tasty. The service is excellent. But do you seriously think that three adults and two children is a big party? The 20% service was automatically included in the check. Why? I had two children who constantly distracted me, so I didn’t immediately see the extra $40 in the check. Why was our table of three adults and two children given the status of a big party?

We've been to this new location now three times. The best way to describe this restaurant is "average at best". The staff has always done a great job so no issue there. Since we lack good choices around here for higher quality food, we have to settle for less and think it's great. They spent a long time getting this location up and running, and for several reasons out of their control, many were waiting for something better that, in my opinion, never panned out to be great!

I have an uncommon food allergy that usually gets overlooked at restaurants but the waiter and the cooks went out of their way to make sure nothing would aggravate it, the waitress going as far to make sure the chef didn’t start making my food to double check an ingredient in it wouldn’t be a problem for me. This place has been incredibly accommodating, as well as going through the menu for my aunt who can’t have gluten or dairy pointing out the options she can have and things that they could change for her. They brought out gluten free soy sauce for her and replaced several ingredients in dishes she was interested in. I could not recommend this place more, I had the most pleasant experience. I felt genuinely heard here, incredible service ❤️

While the food at Tsunami is usually delicious, the latest experience with the manager Dino was nothing short of verbally abusive. We tried to place a carry-out order for which Dino could not get right because he was not listening. After literally 7 attempts, and us having to correct the errors each time (the last of which we pointed out he was not charging us enough), he still got it wrong. We insisted he was not listening to us and he became verbally aggressive, stated he was not going to fill our order, and abruptly hung up on us. We drove to the restaurant, which we frequent weekly to sort this out and Dino once again stated we were not welcome in the restaurant, stated “the customer is not always right,” and aggressively told us to leave. Clearly Dino is not used to being held accountable for his demeanor and lack of listening, and his unprofessional and abrasive manner, demonstrated in front of staff and other patrons is unacceptable on many levels. Dino should not be in the hospitality industry and his behavior should NEVER be tolerated. Our loyal patronage will be welcomed elsewhere.

Asked for extra eel sauce, did not get any eel sauce in bag. Megacrunch roll is not described anywhere yet you can order it. It is a VEGETARIAN ROLL. Very misleading. Would not recommend this place.

Edit: forgot to mention rolls were very underwhelming for the price and much lower quality than other sushi joints in the area.

The most vegetarian (vegan) options I've ever seen at a sushi restaurant! Great food and service. Will adjust any menu item for you as well.

Went for Valentines day. Waiter was great. Would have been five stars but they forced us to sit outside even though there were clearly tables inside... Some with reserved on them. We called the day prior to make a reservation and we're told no reservations just walk in. So this was a bit annoying since it was slightly chilly and I wanted to sit inside but it was over an hour wait...

I placed a takeout order 2/6 and they forgot to include items in my order including my sushi deluxe platter. I was told I would it was packaging error from the hostess and that I would get a refund and would be placed on their “comp” list. Neither happened when I called back. The person on the phone was extremely rude. They didn’t process a refund either. Paid $35 for sushi I never received. Manager Jeffrey and GM Jason. Avoid. Zero stars.

My first time to this location, service was absolutely terrible. As I walked in to ask to be seated I was informed that it was a 20-30 min wait, which is no problem. But in the process of trying to get my name to be seated the manger cuts me off to talk with someone els. After 4-5 min there are now 2 manger speaking with one person, while I’m still being ignored and not able to put my name in. After multiple attempts to put my name in another couple walks up and is help immediately, and then sat immediately. No excuse for this type
Of treatment. Except for poor management, my family and I will never eat at this location, I recommend you do the same.

Beware! I made a reservation for a booth at the Sarasota location. When I got there, there was no seating available. After waiting for 25 minutes, I left and went down the street to Kojo. Best decision ever!

My favorite sushi restaurant this side of Seattle, bar none. From the atmosphere (which may include live classical guitar, great for dates) to the table service to the food, it's a wonderful dining experience at Tsunami. My kids are 11 and eight and they love it as well. Note: Tsunami has an incredible list of vegan sushi that I order from as much as I do the regular menu. 🙂

Great experience with the resturant. We had tried it at the Longboat tasting on the lawn. So we had to try it. We each got a an appetizer the steamed dumplings and the jalapeño tuna. For dinner we got the sumo roll and the sushi sashimi sampler. Everything was tasty and large portions. We tried the sake flight and it is worth it. The mochi dessert was tremendous. Will be back soon

The waiter was positive the chicken was white meat. He argued with me about it, which is not a good thing to do in the hospitality business.
The chicken was definitely thigh meat, he took it back but I wasn't impressed with the place. Very pricey and auto gratuity on 5 people at automatic 20% !

This place has been our favorite for more than a year. We go at least once a month because we love sushi.
Since you arrive at Tsunami you find incredible attention, the host, the Bussers, the waiters. We usually decided to sit with César most of the time but when he is not there we have had the same experience with different waiters and the truth is that everything has been incredible.

The atmosphere despite always being busy is enjoyable and whenever we have gone they have a musician who makes the experience even more sublime and beautiful.

About the food: There is nothing we have tried here that we did not like, in fact on several occasions we have gone and they offer us samples of dishes and the truth is that they have been delicious.

Appetizers: The salmon sashimi is always fresh just like the seaweed salad, edamames and the tuna tartar🤤
Chicken tatsu-age: omg, it feels juicy, crispy and the sauce has a spicy touch that gives the 10/10 to that, same with the shrimp tempura they are big shrimps and the calamari with the peanuts ohh god! So delicious!

As I said, we go for sushi, our favorites are Georgia (even when it with chicken yes, chicken), Siesta, Snow mountain, Waikiki. Also good: Naruto, Spider, volcano and monster!

Things I decided I want to try: pineapple fried rice because looks amazing, Mongolian beef and the hibachi (another excuse to go back 🤣)

Desserts: tempura cheesecake and chocolate tower SO GOOD!

I’m feel bad that I don’t have more photos on my phone to show how delicious everything we eat every time we go but I always enjoy so much this place so we put our phones away LOL

If I could rate this restaurant with 0 stars I would! Worst customer service. We have eaten at this establishment multiple times over the past couple of years and although I have had minimal issues in the past, I am confident in saying this place has lost its touch.

We planned on attending the restaurant and were sure to call in advance. Although there were no reservations available they assured us over the phone that they were accepting walk in all throughout the evening. We have dined here with only a walk in multiple times so we were sure there would be no issue.

Upon arrival at an EMPTY restaurant we were told they would not be accepting any walk ins for the evening, even after I had explained the phone conversation I had just carried with the host. Both the host and hostess were extremely rude and as a restaurant owner myself I was embarrassed to see such horrible attitudes carried by the two people who were chosen to greet customers.

Very disappointed and I will be sad to discontinue recommending this restaurant to people in the future.

First time going with my family and friends last night. Service was great. For my drink I had a strawberry soda it wasn’t overly sweet which how I like it. It tasted like a real strawberry with a little bit of sweetness, that’s what I like. For appetizers I ate a salad and sushi with salmon, tuna, cream cheese, and avocado. It was delicious. Then for dinner I ate pineapple chicken. I thought it was okay. I found it to be too sweet with the pineapple in it. Don’t get me wrong I love pineapple but I don’t like it if it’s overly sweet. Julia was our server. Super attentive. Recommended a cocktail when I asked and it was great! My husband and I ordered Hurricane sushi and Hibachi chicken and shrimp to split. All the food was so delicious! Even the fried Cheesecake dessert.

A violinist played popular music tonight. It made for a nice atmosphere.

We will definitely be going back. I now have a new favorite restaurant.

Wir sind bekanntlich begeisterte Asien und Sushi-Fans und sehr oft in solchen Restaurants. Das Tsunami Sushi und Hibachi wäre sicher eines in welches wir öfter gehen würden, leider waren wir nur wenige Tage in Sarasota und konnten es nur zweimal besuchen.
Was man dort bekommt ist wirklich außergewöhnliche asiatische Küche. OK Sushi gibt es in Florida sehr oft und oft auch sehr gut. Das geht aber im Tsunami darüber hinaus, weil man neben wunderbaren Sushi auch andere tolle Kreationen bekommt wie z. B. den Ahi-Tower, einen Turm aus (von unten her) Reis, darüber Avocado, darüber Krebsfleisch, darüber spicy Thunfischtatar, darüber Kokosflocken und alles mit zwei sehr guten Saucen umgeben. Oder Three Lovers, was aussieht wie Nigirisushi aber statt dem Reis kommt unter den Fisch Avocado, der Lachs ist leicht geflämmt, dazwischen eine spicy Majo, drumherum eine sehr gute Sauce. Die Qualität der Produkte ist hervorragend, die Kellner äußerst freundlich. Was will man wirklich mehr? Wir wären dort sicher Stammgäste, würden wir in Sarasota wohnen.

The staff at Tsunami is warm and welcoming. They greeted our group with a smile and were very attentive to all our needs, the service was amazing. The food was over the top! Everything seasoned perfectly, and the fish on the sushi was the freshest I’ve ever tasted. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us make a few decisions too! Our cocktails were perfectly paired with our dinners and the fried cheese cake was great as well! I can’t say enough about how great of a night we had! Thank you to the management team and all the staff for making this the best restaurant experience I’ve ever had! We will definitely be back!

I honestly love this restaurant. I can’t remember the amount of times I’ve come here. The food is always bomb and the service is great. The Paradise roll is great if you aren’t a fan of raw fish but still love a good sushi roll. The climax roll is super good, and I love the fried gyoza as well. My
Boyfriend isn’t a big fan of sushi and says the hibachi is great. Looks like they have a pretty large vegan menu. Food for all!

Great choices and the service is top notch, when I couldn't see the menu cause' the lighting the waiter brought us a light just for our table.. so cool.. great lunch specials! Very filling, the cost is to match but it's worth it. Cool location too! Oh ps, they specify Raw or Cooked too very cool experience

Went here yesterday night, Saturday September 15 2023… just wanted to say that every single person working that night deserves a raise! From the moment we walked in through the door we were greeted so warmly. We had a service dog with us and they brought her water! I felt so taken care of, so welcome and so comfortable.
The food was DELICIOUS! Miso Soup was fire! The salad dressing was delicious, and the chicken hibachi of course, was delightful.

Here’s the story. It was a Tuesday evening, I wanted sushi and didn’t want to wait long. I was going to go to Whole Foods but they didn’t have a good selection. So I walked to tsunami. Never been here in my life. Will never go back.

They had a special items menu. I ordered from it. I was eating alone so I just picked one special roll (vampire) and thought it would be quick and I’d be on my way.

It took 30 minutes.

People next to me sat and ordered after me. They had their food at least 15 minutes before me.

Server came back said they had to make the purple (forbidden) rice. Said it would be out soon. I waited.

Server came back around again fervently apologized swore he put in the food right after I ordered. I waited.

Server began avoiding my general vicinity. Food came out and I ate it before my server ever checked on me again.

The sushi was drenched in im assuming soy sauce (it was very salty). I don’t particularly like soy sauce enough to drench anything in it. I couldn’t taste anything inside the sushi roll which was disappointing at $24 for this I expected it to be delicious. There was mango, salmon and I believe tuna. One of the fish was cooked/tasted like canned tuna- very dry no flavor. Terrible idea and possibly the worst sushi that…. Hodgepodge of soy sauce and canned tuna… all in all I timed how long it took to eat and it was 7 minutes. I tipped the server 20% pre-tax, and hope the kid finds a more honest employer.

Regretfully,

The woman who wanted to taste the mango on a vampire roll but couldn’t because soy sauce and canned tuna.

A great place for quality food. The range of selections for both the sushi and entrees is broad. The atmosphere is friendly and casual but service is still efficient. Most welcomed was the live music put out at a volume that did not make carrying on a conversation frustrating.

This is a fantastic place with very tasty food and very nice service. Hari was very responsive, he understood me perfectly and advised the most delicious rolls for my taste, not spicy and with eel. I advise everyone to visit this place and be sure to try the tempera cheesecake dessert. Hari we will come again, thank you for your hospitality.

Visiting family who lives in Sarasota. They Recommended the restaurant. It is pretty good. Great for vegetarians and vegans.

Drinks were ok, not sure if it was because it was busy. Sushi and sashimi were decent.

Our server was great. He was very funny. Made our experience fun.

We came for a quick dinner aiming for some Japanese food and were gladly surprised on the flavors of Snow Mountain roll, Fancy Dragon roll, and Sashimi Deluxe. It was a surprise to find this place in Sarasota. The service was quick and friendly. Would come back.

Found my new favorite sushi place!
We were greeted by the staff as soon as we walked in and the hostess Elizabeth brought us to the table
The Laminated menus were a little cheesy but that’s a minor detail they can fix easily. Our waitress Arine took our drink orders right away and gave us a rundown of some of the appetizers. In the background there was a great violinist playing music which I found very enjoyable. Our hostess came back around to suggest some appetizer platters. Overall the food was delicious and the portions were pretty big so we ended up taking food home. The manager Jason came by to introduce himself and gave us some dessert suggestions but the fried cheesecake was my favorite.
I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other rolls. They had a huge selection and very tasty combinations. Overall I highly recommend this place however make sure you make reservations because it is a small intimate location that seems to get very busy and is no wonder given how great the sushi was.

The food was AMAZING. I am a plan Jane girl so I asked them is thay had California Rolls because that is my favorite, they said it it was not on the menu but they would be HAPPY to make it! When ot came out it looked SO good! And it tasted better then anywhere else I’ve had it! I sat at a table of five people with my family and all of our food came out at the exact same time what was hot, was hot and what was cold like sushi was cold! Extremely recommend! Also for the inflation It was amazing pricing!

I took my wife there last night for her birthday. We had reservations for a party of 6. When we arrived the table was already set and waiting for us. Throughout the entire meal we were pampered and treated like we were the only table in the room. The service was excellent. The employees were amazing from the bus boys to the wait staff.
The food was not only beyond excellent but it was also beautiful........I can't put enough emphasis on that last part. The presentation of the food was absolutely stunning. 💯
To say the least we had the most amazing night there and thank you for making her special evening more special than we could have hoped for.

Sushi was great. Salad was fine. Shu Mai was ok, quite small for Shu Mais though.
YAKISOBA 😒 literally was noodles. Veggies were a few snap peas, onions, one very tiny sliver of carrot, cabbage. I paid to add chicken...no chicken 🐔! We ordered via DoorDash which was fine, and on time, but entree (that sorry Yakisoba), and Miso soup were cold. Not warm, cold. So sushi wise- it's great, otherwise it's lacking and is basic Chinese food.

My partner and I walked by last night without a reservation. The place was packed but the manager wasted no time in getting us a cute table outside. Our waiter came over immediately and was knowledgeable and charming. The menu is very creative and each item we chose was exceptional. The manager came over several times to bring us treats on the house and all were creative and delicious. It has been a while since we have experienced such a well orchestrated dining experience. Their sake selection is very wide, and they serve the cold sakes on a bed of ice...very thoughtful. The sashimi salmon was served at the perfect temperature, nicely lined with fat and supple in texture. I recommend this restaurant for the pickiest of sushi lovers. It will definitely leave you feeling wowed and happy. The prices are extremely reasonable as well.

Restaurant did not honor our reservation for a table, which was made well in advance, relegated us to a narrow shelf in the bar section (where we were supposed to have dinner) without any substantive apology, and effectively refused us a table when one became available. This, on a busy Fri night. Worst service we have had in many years.
