This was a great restaurant. Service was wonderful although they were really busy when we came so the food was slow. I did have better sushi (at Old Florida Fish House) but it was still good and our fish was wonderful as was the salad. I would absolutely not miss the fried rice. It was spectacular. Our server tried to talk us into a half portion and we didn't listen. Get the half portion. I don't know a scenario in which you'd get the full portion. Lol Great meal!

Basmati’s was nothing short of AMAZING! Food, service, atmosphere were top notch! Highly recommend the pupu platter for first timers. We had the feeling frisky sushi roll and it didn’t disappoint. The snapper and the grouper were outstanding! We’ll definitely be back.

Basmatis was recommended to us by a few folks and we thought we’d check it out. Plenty of gravel parking out front and we were sat immediately for our reservation. Reservation is not required and there was plenty of seating for walks ins. Overall, I’d recommend the Caesar, Red Dragon sushi roll and red snapper dish. The rest of our meal was sub par. Our server, Jesse, was great and knew his stuff. I would have given more stars if the restaurant had more space and the sushi was better prepared.

We went here as we have a discount book we bought earlier in the year and have yet to use. We drove for half an hour to get here. A pretty little place, very intimate. We were shown to our table after being offered either indoor or outdoor (screened) seats. We asked if our discount was valid as the table was being laid and were told we could. Unfortunately the grouper my wife wanted had sold out. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Our starters arrived promptly and the presentation was second to none. However, for me the flavours just weren't there. Maryland style crab cakes are my favourite, they just didn't do it for me unfortunately. The wife had a selection platter. She also agreed it was nice, but not amazing. I also ordered spring roll which was again, beautiful fresh and presented, but lacked in punch. It certainly wasn't horrible. Our mains were brought out at a good point after the starters, my wife had a half portion of fried rice with shrimp and I had the bbq duck. My duck was fantastic - the flavours were great much more like what I expected. Cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. The shrimp fried rice was also nice, not fantastic and had some rather large lumps of onion in it. The shrimp were huge, which meant there wasn't that many of them. We then shared a coconut cake for dessert. That was very nice. However it all fell apart when we presented our discount. We were told we couldn't use that with the fried rice as a meal. We spend $160 between two of us, yet we hadn't spent enough to meet the requirements. That was very disappointing. And the meal certainly wasn't worth $160 (Inc tip) unfortunately. I doubt we would go back, which is a shame.

Super cute vibes, especially outside. Inside of the restaurant is very tight and can be a little claustrophobic. The tables are basically touching so maybe it’s better for a smaller more intimate dinner. The services was okay, not super friendly. And the food was also just okay but very expensive for what you get.

I have never experienced such a disappointing experience. However The hostess was friendly and seated us quickly. Water was immediately brought to our table. And then there was the server. He took our appetizer order and our drink order. Both were served within reasonable time. We put our order in for three sushi rolls, and I said that’s what we’ll start with and we will probably order more later. He promptly informed us that was not acceptable. He told us if we ordered more rolls it would be a very long time to get served. I’ve been to many restaurants over the years. I’ve never been treated so poorly. We ordered three rolls and dumplings. We had two small children with us. They typically love dumplings, the dumplings were not prepared properly. The Server never asked us if we wanted to refill our drinks and it seemed he couldn’t wait for us to leave. If we were allowed to order more. We probably would’ve spent $200-$250 if they treat every customer like that I would say they’re losing a lot of revenue. I will never return to this establishment.

We went to Basmati's twice in this trip to the Emerald Coast.
The first visit was better. Our server was outstanding, and the sushi rolls we ordered were tasty and well executed.
The seaweed salad was fresh both days.
One thing that caught my attention is the name. Many of their plates come with Jasmine rice, none as far as I remember with Basmati rice.
We were pleased with our experiences and we will be back in the fall.

Good food, great service, outstanding vibe--the patio area was cool and everyone was happy. They even brought the toddler strawberries which is one of the few things she'll actually eat! Upscale and great for couples.

Nope, nope, nope. Overpriced is definitely an understatement when it comes to this place. So let's start by the beginning, reservation at 7:45PM, sitting down at 7:50PM, so far, normal. Ten minutes to get drinks, ten more to get the waiter to come take our order. We had some questions on the menu, because my sons wanted the fried rice with shrimp, the menu says that you can also order just half portion. When I inquired about this, the waiter said "the half portion is for the protein, the rice is the same", I asked again if the plate was large enough that my kids could share, he strongly suggested that each get their own, so that how we ordered. Food took roughly 50 minutes to get to the table, each plate of fried rice would have been enough for the four of us to share! I felt ripped off, honestly, as far as my plate goes, it seems they lost the salt shaker in the kitchen, not seasoned at all.
I don't mind and will never stop by price for a good meal, but this dinner for four (2 teens, 2 adults) was definitely not worth two hundred dollars.
Visited 10 months ago
I really don’t appreciate when I ask my server about portions and they don’t tell me the truth (maybe they’re expecting a higher bill and higher tip?). I asked about how big the fried rice was and the server said it was one person’s portion. So we ordered one fried rice for each one of our teenagers. But my whole family of 4 could have eaten with one portion of the fried rice. So we ended up with a lot of rice when we could have ordered 1/2 portion. It was huge!
Food tasted good, but it’s really upsetting when I feel being taken advantage of.

The Fried Rice and the Honey Glazed Chicken did not disappoint. Those fresh veggies tucked underneath, had the perfect crunch. It took a little while for our food to come out.. but other than that, everything was great. The fried rice and the glazed chicken entree made for great leftovers.

This is the most inflexible place I have ever been. I hear from reviews that the food is really good but they make it almost impossible to get. There is no bar so you can’t get a walk in table. My daughter and I went for dinner here for the first time. Not your typical Asian food but everything we ate was delicious. We started with the gyoza, which were steamed and very good. Then she had a seaweed salad and I had the Asian salad with ginger dressing and they both were really good. Then I had a snapper special which was amazing, not a ton of Asian feel, but so good . My daughter did a half order of chicken fried rice which was a huge portion and super tasty. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back.

I love Asian food and I was really wanting to love this place. I took my wife here for her birthday last week and sadly it was a bust. My entrée was inedible, the appetizer tasted microwave reheated, chicken was chewy, roll was loose and the eel was mushy, and the service was even worse. We didn't get to eat together. We couldn't even get water refills. Probably the worst experience anywhere in the area. No apology or comp from the waitress on an $75 meal. I came home and ate a frozen meal that was 100X better. Unbelievable this is a popular restaurant.

I have never written a restaurant review but felt compelled to do so after the outstanding meal that I just experienced. I had the Seafood Special Snapper. It was lightly breaded, cooked beyond perfection and placed on the freshest and most delicious sautéed vegetables. The Jasmine rice alone served with it was more than noteworthy. I cannot even begin to describe the delicate sauce that was on this dish. With the Gyoza Dumplings appetizer and the Spiced Banana Spring Roll with Ginger Ice cream for dessert, this easily became the best meal that I have ever had the pleasure of eating in my life. Highly recommend reservations but if you cannot it is more than worth any wait.

Gluten-free options may be limited but oh so yummy. Summer roll of rice paper with vegies - huge for $10, enough to share with partner. Red curry shrimp $32 (huge) again enough to share (sauce on side since curry does have some heat. Florida Blue crab roll $14 was long and able to share that. Small room with outdoor covered patio. Music low. Great service.
NEED RESERVATIONS.
Highly recommend.

Been wanting to try this place since we got here 7 months ago. We went with some friends that have been here before and told us some of their favorite things on the menu. One was the BASMATI’S PU-PU PLATTER:A SAMPLING OF SOME OF BASMATI’S FAVORITES, DUMPLINGS WITH SOY DIPPING SAUCE, CRABCAKE WITH SMOKED YELLOW TOMATO EMULSION, AND SPRING ROLL OF THE DAY. It was delicious and great way to start dinner. We also had
CHINESE BARBECUE DUCK – SLOW ROASTED MAPLE LEAF DUCK BREAST SERVED ATOP A SCALLION TEMPURA PANCAKE, SWEET & SPICY OYSTER SAUCE
CANTONESE RACK OF LAMB – RACK OF NEW ZEALAND SPRING LAMB ENCRUSTED WITH HOISIN AND SESAME SEEDS, FINISHED WITH AN ANISE SCENTED LEMON-SOY GLAZE
And both were fantastic!! I had the Lamb and you get 10 lamb pops so yummy!
And our friend had and Luved it.
SEAFOOD SPECIAL OF THE DAY – A CHEF’S CREATION USING THE FRESHEST LOCAL SEAFOOD, PRESENTED IN OUR OWN UNIQUE WAY
The staff were fantastic and did a great job. We'll be back here again for sure!

Had a nice mommy daughter lunch date here and our sushi was okay. Salad was yummy! It also took a while for our food to be prepared. Beautiful outdoor spot for a date night! Located in Blue Mountain Beach on Highway 30A. Giving this review 3 stars for now because we dined in a second time for dinner on the outdoor porch and our food was still just okay. Would not rush back. Food is over priced.

Ate here in December so I can't speak to the service in the summer, but our waiter was amazing. He had wonderful suggestions for us and was very attentive without being obtrusive. We felt spoiled. Let me start by saying that the sushi and main courses were wonderful. However, for a $200 meal for 2 I expected more. The gyoza was less than mediocre and the service was ok. If I could I would give it a 3.5 star. If the meal was less than $100 I would’ve chalked it up to a 5 star because many parts were very good, but for the price point I think they have some work to do. The bbq duck and pork tenderloin were great and I recommend to anyone who has the money to give it a try.

One of the best restaurant experiences on 30A. I went back yesterday after an almost 20 year gap and it was just as good as I remember. Fresh and flavorful and the chocolate silken tofu pie is on my top 3 list for desserts ever. I would suggest most of the negative reviews are people that did not bother to make reservations and then somehow expected to be seated immediately. That’s not quite how it works!
Visited 3 years ago
This restaurant is in my top 3 in S. Walton. Have been coming here for yrs. The service is impeccable. The grouper and red fish sublime. The rice cooked perfectly. However my favorite is the duck! Only restaurant I know that serves this delicious meal. I also have to comment how the vegtables are always flavorful and never over cooked. Similarly the sauces are so flavorful , light , catered to each dish and appetizer.
Make a reservation and best news there is parking! I sat in the porch with over head fans comfortable and nice view. Ask not to sit in front of the door, busy.
You will enjoy your meal and think that your money was well spent.

Almost don't want to spread the word about this one, would be nice to keep it one of the best local, almost hidden, restaurants along 30A. Already way to tough to get reservations, and for good reason.
After many visits the small, intimate, atmosphere and great food and service have never changed. This time of year the patios are the best choice as they are set back from the road and overview one of the coastal dunes lakes through the forest.
Good quality, presentation and taste revive you of a much higher priced place with lots of diamonds on a plaque.

Absolutely horrible, discriminatory restaurant. We walked in when the place was empty and they said we couldn’t get in for 3 more hours. If they didn’t want kids or whatever they didn’t like about us, they should have just said what it was instead of being passive aggressive and saying they didn’t have room.

They always have a red snapper special, and it is by far one of the best meals I have ever had. We always enjoy sitting on the screened-in porch. Even in the winter, they have very warm heaters that keep it nice and toasty out there.

I ate at Basmati’s for the 1st time while on vacation almost 30 years ago so was happy to see it was still here and thriving when we made the move down here back in October. I was celebrating a big birthday this past Saturday and chose Basmati’s for my celebratory dinner with my husband and 2 other couples.
We were seated immediately in the outside area which was lovely because it was less crowded and quieter out there. The waitstaff were fabulous (we had 2 nice young females whose names I can’t remember unfortunately). Our appetizers and entrees were delicious!
However a few minutes into our entrees a couple was seated behind us and complained of being cold so a heater was brought out and placed right behind us which was an inferno. I got so hot I was nauseated so I asked if the heater could be turned down. The manager came out and informed us there was only one setting asked if we wanted to move inside. There were six of us spreading eating our meal and the couple had just been seated so we asked if the couple could move inside instead. It turned into Avery ugly encounter and when I complained to the owner he was defensive and defended his manager’s handling of the situation. We were blown away by his reaction/response. Our bill was almost $500 so to be treated in such a way pretty much overshadowed our positive experience. Needless to say we won’t be back nor recommend it to friends for fear they would be treated in the same way.

When we walked into the restaurant, the wait staff said they could seat us immediately inside due to patio being full. There were three other tables inside. I did not see the patio, but it looked full. What they should’ve said is that it would be an hour wait and that they could not accommodate us right away. We waited an hour and forty minutes for our dinner to come. The waiter was great initially, then disappeared for 30-40 minutes and when he came back there was no apology or mention of his lengthy absence. We had empty drinks and everybody was angry, but he didn’t seem to care or notice. Because it took so long for dinner, I asked the waiter to pack our dinner up. We waited another 20 min only for them to bring our food out to the table. We wanted to leave so we asked for them to pack it up and we waited even longer. Sushi is average at best and special snapper of the day lacked flavor even with the “special” sauce. Basically, this place is a time robber and not worth the wait for the food. I read some of the reviews and responses to reviewers are just a bunch of excuses. Just be transparent with your customers up front and they don’t be angry on the back end.

What a great restaurant. The atmosphere is so nice, and the food was wonderful. Our waiter Jesse really knew his stuff and was very friendly and attentive. All throughout the evening they were checking on us and regularly refilling our waters. Most restaurants are struggling with staff issues right now, but you really couldn’t tell here. See if you can get a table on the screened-in patio, it’s really pretty.

We had high hopes for Basmati’s, but we were severely disappointed. The service was good. I’m pregnant so I guzzle water and never had an empty glass. Our server, Jesse, was nice and extremely knowledgeable of the menu. But the food, the main focal point, was severely underwhelming and overpriced. The spring rolls for $12 were nothing short of average, although the chili sauce was delicious. The special was egg drop soup with chunks of blue crab. We asked that the crab not be included which Jesse happily obliged. The soup was perfectly seasoned and my wife and I throughly enjoyed it. For dinner, I ordered the Vegetarian Creation and my wife ordered the fried rice with steak and beef. My dish consisted of a stack of chargrilled vegetables with no flavor and tempura tofu and asparagus with a dipping sauce. The dipping sauce was good and I ended up pouring it over the vegetables. However, it didn’t give the vegetables much of a flavor boost. Plus, they were severely overlooked. My wife found the fried rice to be basic with too many currants that threw the flavor off. She chose the half order which ended up being a ridiculous $31. She literally ate four bites so there was plenty left. One would think this would cause someone from the staff to ask if there was something wrong with the dish. That never happened. We would happily pay for the dish, but it would have been nice for someone to acknowledge or realize something was wrong with the amount of untouched food from both dishes.

Exquisite experience all around. The service was friendly, and attentive at all the right times and in all the right ways. The atmosphere was soul soothing. Very comfortable. The food was sublime. Out of all the places we have dined while in and around Santa Rosa Basmatis, by far, ranks at number one. Out of all our dining experiences on the (collective) nearly 100 yrs of dining experiences between us, Basmatis is very near the top.
I could enjoy eating here every day.
Our server, Audy, was amazing.

I have read over some of the bad reviews that ungrateful people have left on this wonderful Restaurant & Staff, and I'd like to state that I'd wish they'd understand that there is things called reservations, even if you come ealry you can't sit down and take someones seat, and you can't blame the staff or the owner for that. I would just recommend you call a week or two ahead of time since we are in the middle of summer, and we all know it's been quite busy this year since after covid. As for the staff they are incredibly great and respectful people. The food I had tonight was by far the best meal I have had in my short lifetime, I had the pleasure of eating the crusted red snapper tonight and everything on the plate blew my mind, the way it was cooked, the sauce they had on the side, the vegetables they had under the fish, just blew the tastebuds out of my mouth. Every bite I took made me go in awe. Alongside the coconut cake was a great topping to the food tonight, I've never wanted to make this moment last forever before, I just wanter to sit there and savor the flavor. I'd just wished I could put the dish in a showcase. Beside all the the atmosphere inside and outside the restaurant really sums up everything, I got a really nature vibe from here and I loved it. I would 1000% come back here again real soon and I will immediately recommend this to all my friends and peirs. Thank you for the wonderful food, and service tonight.

A lovely place with peaceful & inviting ambience. The staff were attentive and very nice. Cocktails were very good. The food was outstanding! Fresh & creative sushi, and the pu pu platter was delicious too. Definitely worth a visit!

Do not waste your time. The older lady at the front door has an attitude and is rude. They never answer the phone therefore we walked in at 5:45pm to grab a quick bite with no reservation. With over 5 tables open inside and multiple tables open outside. She states "we don't have anything". Not "I'm sorry," not "let me double check," nothing but look at us like we where crazy and why we were still standing there. One minute later she does the same thing to another couple. When walking out the other couple said that lady needs to learn how to be nice, maybe she should have another drink and a cigarette.. We laughed, left and will NEVER return. The food is 50/50 at best.

Two stars is for the location, building and menu. However; the hostess staff were awful. We called to see if there was availability for a walk in, the lady asked if we could hold - we were never put on hold, the phone was just placed down on the counter. After listening to 7 minutes of the hostess talk to her colleagues. We hung up. We tried calling again 5 minutes later - the phone was still off the hook and the xall could not connect. After not being able to discuss availability, we arrived on site and walked into a half empty restaurant. We told them we were a party of 3, she asked if we had a reservation to which we said no, she just said “weve got nothing for you.” Not, lets make a reservation for another night, not “sorry we are reservation only” - absolutely rude. We looked forward to trying this place however we darent venture back during our week here - staff was not polite or professional - at all.

Amazing! Overall great experience. Not just flavorful food, the ambience and service were excellent. I recommend the tuna maki and the red snapper when it’s in season. Best fish I’ve had in a restaurant!

We should have read Brandy F.'s review before going! Our first time and the only reason I give it a 2 was because of the wonderful employees and the view at sunset. We had a work meeting on Teams and we're initially the only ones there so the lack of headphones didn't matter. We shared an iPad for efficiencies. A couple was later seated a safe distance from us and shortly after a table of 5 was seated right next to us. No one complained or gave a strange look. The table of 5 was equally as loud as our iPad. I should also mention our two toddlers were there and behaved far better than any adults. Halfway through appetizers the owner brought a table of 2 out and looked over our shoulder trying to decide what we were looking at. She came back to tell us that it shouldn't be on and asked that we at least turn it down. My spouse is a veteran with some hearing loss and he expressed that to her. He didn't even bother to mention how loud (laughing loudly about how many bottles of wine they had already been through) the table they set right beside us was out of courtesy to them. It's a restaurant and it was fine for them to enjoy their night just like it is ours to finish work. When addressed inside, the owner gave a patronizing apology for how we feel. Won't be back and will tell everyone to go other places.

Always visit Basmati's when in the area
Great food great service and reasonably priced-best restaurant on 30a
Wonderful!

over an hour to get food with only 4 tables occupied. Salmon and filet came finally came out luke warm and overcooked. Bone in chicken dish was a jaw crusher. No apologies from Jesse the manager. On a bright note the fried rice was as good as always but I recommend ordering it while you are enroute

This is my second review of Basmati’s and I would give them six stars if I could. I have a “go to” sushi roll at home and they customized it for me here and it surpassed my expectations. The roll on the right is customized with steamed shrimp and cream cheese on the inside and salmon and lemon on the outside. The roll on the left is called “feeling frisky” and we asked to add cream cheese. BOTH OF THEM ARE DELICIOUS!

Basmati's Asian Cuisine is an awesome place to dine. The atmosphere is charming, food outstanding, and owner Penny incredibly warm and welcoming. Try the Florida Roll...you won't be disappointed! I can't wait to return to this little gem on the beach for another mouth watering meal!

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants I took everyone to when in town. Granted the owner has never been friendly, their reservation system is antiquated and after you’ve eaten there a few times the food doesnt wow you as much but it is a cute atmosphere and one of the few upscale restaurants we have on 30A. We have been many times where we have made friends with several other people in the restaurant and its always been a fun time. Our last visit there was an entirely different story. We were celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday with a party of 17 people. Knowing we were loud (due to group size, not because we were obnoxious) we bought the lady’s dinner who was also in the dining room with us. She was super appreciative, told us that wasnt needed and wished us a fabulous night and encouraged us to continue to enjoy our night. At this point it had taken 45 minutes to even get our first round of drinks (after going up and asking for someone to take our order) and the appetizers had just been served. The owner had the audacity to come out and shame one of our guests, singling her out and humiliating her and telling us to be quiet. We were literally THE ONLY people in the entire restaurant and it was 9:30 at night so nobody else was coming in. After a heated exchange with the owners we determined they are miserable people. They tried to back track and act as if nothing had happened but it was too late. They wait staff was amazing (as they have always been) and were trying to diffuse the situation only to be shushed by the owner and pulled to the back. Again the lady is just miserable and its always been a joke as to who is going to call for reservations because the owner is so mean and hateful but nothing we couldnt deal with. Treating customers this way is a completely different story. I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN and truly hope the owners will retire and leave the restaurant in better hands, its obviously WAY past time!

Best fish I’ve ever had. Ahi tuna nigiri, scallop nigiri, smoked salmon, panko crusted grouper, and calamari. The service made it even better

We've never dined-in at this restaurant, but got take-out based on the reviews. The take-out was disappointing. The red curry shrimp was more like steamed shrimp with a dipping sauce. The duck dish had noodles that coagulated together. When I went inside to pick it up, the employees didn't wear masks and didn't require other patrons to wear them, so I was the only one wearing a mask.

This was an excellent experience! However, the food took a while to come. The sushi was good although there were very few choices. My friend asked to take something off of his sushi but they still put it on. It was still fun and we had a good time! However, the wasabi water was wonderful!

Told us we couldn’t sit inside because of reservations showing up in the next 30 minutes. We ate our food outside and watched no one walk in for an hour and a half. On top of that fact, the food was horrid. Do not order the chicken fried rice or truffle sushi unless you want your wallet to cry as you walk away in disgust.

I would like to start with the pro which is that the service was amazing! Now for the cons, mind you I have worked in restaurants and no whom to be upset with and the service staff was definitely not it. It appears that they may have changed chefs as we loved this food right before the shutdown. The duck was overcooked and they were kind enough to remake it. However it was over cooked again but by that point we didn't want to wait any longer. The lamb was also over cooked and I did not say anything so that is on me as I thought I could manage but half of the rack was extremely tough. I believe they changed how the lamb and dumplings are made and or seasoned but that is why I stated maybe a new chef. Also when I made the reservation I asked a lot of questions as this would be my first time eating in a restaurant since the shutdown. The staff did wear masks which I was beyond grateful for but the tables were not spread apart at all so it was cramped. Also when I made the reservation I let them know this was for a birthday and they said they would note that which aindidnt expect but then nothing was done for said birthday. This use to be out go to place as the service is amazing and still is but unfortunately the food is not so good anymore.

If I could give the less than one star I would. I travel a lot was told great things about this place. Made reservation with family. Sat for about 40 minutes and the only persons that recognized us was the young lady with the water pitcher. Then when we were asked "if anyone had came to see us yet" we said no and the excuses bagan to fly. It would have been better if when we walked in the door they told us to ef off kicked me in the sack and stole my wallet. Never going back. Sad part is limited seating not many tables at the time. What happens when it does get busy. My complete review will be posted on my food critic website. mikeatz.
