HQ Korean BBQ & Hot Pot & Sushi - Pensacola

We recently visited HQ Korean BBQ & Hot Pot in Pensacola for the first time, and we were absolutely blown away! The all-you-can-eat model is amazing, with excellent quality food and delicious meat. Cooking your own meat on the grill is such a fun experience, and they have a huge selection of soups for the hot pot, where you can control your own temperature.

We went for lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find out that the lunch price is $10 cheaper on weekdays than the dinner price. If you get there before 3:30 pm, you can take advantage of the lower price, although the lunch menu is a bit more limited compared to dinner.

Ordering everything on the touch screen at the table was super convenient, and the food was brought to us very quickly. They do charge $14/lb for any food you waste, but I was told this isn’t enforced unless you’re truly wasting a lot of food.

The service was excellent, and we will would like to go back again but it is very expensive. It's a great selection of quality of food, but again is very pricey. There is also a two hour limit, which, for the price is kind of limiting. Highly recommend checking it out for a special occasion!

**UPDATE**
We attempted to go back, and after calculating how much it would have been with the whole family of 4 (3 adults, 1 child) (Approximately $180 with tax/tip), we opted to go elsewhere as although the food is incredible, service, is awesome, and the experience is fun, the price is hard to justify, especially with a couple of kids. They charge adult/child based on height, so a child may have to pay the adult cost if they are tall for their age. I feel this is probably a great place for a couple to go, but if you're bringing a family it gets very expensive.

Took a group here for my birthday dinner. Our server Kristine was fantastic! Great energy, very nice, knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. 10/10 time will definitely be coming back and asking for Kristine. They accommodated our group easily and the way the ordering is set up is really easy and quick!

After watching videos about this place and traveling from Minnesota for vacation, we knew we had to try it! The meats and vegetables were great! The soups we ended up not liking which is fine because you’re not gonna like everything. Served was quick and awesome at explaining how everything works.

Reason I gave it a 3- We had a group of 9 come in, my good buddy was not feeling good so he did not eat but only had a lemonade! They charged him not only for the meal but made him pay the gratuity as well. We explained he did not eat one bite the waitress stated” because it’s a group that came in we have to charge him” he was charged $55 for lemonade! They need to change that rule! Never heard of that.

Took my dad here for his 53rd birthday. This was our first time and man it was amazing! Our server Amanda was so kind and helpful. She was very attentive and assisted us in any way possible. We all loved the food and the atmosphere. Twas such a vibe! We will definitely be back!

Brooklyn is one of the best servers I have and she's the only reason I'm not giving one star.

K BBQ enthusiast here and unbelievably unimpressed. Not worth the money at all, it was cheaper in Hawaii; a lot cheaper. Most of the meat is under seasoned and the grills aren't oiled before use. The "cheese corn" is queso and corn, which is NOT authentic, it's gross.

My favorite part? When l told the hostess that there was zero toilet paper, and i had to just figure it out she said: "the men or the women's room"?

We'll never come back, but Brooklyn, if you want a job, you're hired.

HQ Korean BBQ was a very unique, and unforgettable experience. They had a HUGE table for the hot pots and grills & many different options of meats and seafoods to choose from. My husband and I chose the all you can eat Hotpot and Grill, and we were very impressed by how fresh the food was & VERY TASTY. I am honestly going back this week.

I love how they had a dedicated condiment bar/ appetizers. They had cucumber salad, edamame/ soy beans, coconut macarons, fruits and sooo many sauces & much more ! Plus they have ice cream section as well. 👌🏽

I definitely recommend bringing the family, because right when I walked in I felt clean, catered to and exclusive.

We were seated right by the blue neon light area where it was a hard to see everything cooked right. If we go again here, I would definitely ask them for the booth by the window with a natural rights. Ordering with the touch panel was neat and convenient. Server was nice and attentive. Price was reasonable for the AYCY bbq. We would try a hot pot next time.

Although a great experience, this is not family friendly.

Usually restaurants have a set price for kids based on age. Usually 12 & under eat at a discounted rate. Well this restaurant charges for kids by their height!!! Any child over the egardless of their age over 4 ft 5 pays the price as an adult.

So my 9 year old who is taller than 4ft 5 was charged $33.99 for dinner when he eats a third of what an adult does. They actually measured my son against a column in the restaurant that had a mark of the maximum height etched into it.

Also there is not any transparency as this is not listed on their website. There's a large poster on the door with pricing when you walk-in with this information listed, however it would be good to know before you expend time and gas driving to the restaurant.

Not sure who thought this was a good business model but it's terrible. Families with multiple kids could not enjoy a night at this restaurant because it would be too expensive.

I've been here twice; the first time I wasn't 100% impressed but I felt a lot of that was due to a mediocre waitress and not a very clear understanding on the process. I went as a group of four (all of our first time there) and trying to order food for four adults and cook it in one small grill with one set of tongs was a bit slow going. There is also the high probability that the foods will start to stick to the grill because there's no easy way to keep the grill oiled. We actually had to have our grill plates changed out twice because we scorched them with the marinated meats.

Going back a second time was much better, I opted for the hot pot instead of the grill. And the service was much better as well.

The atmosphere is definitely more geared towards a modern young adult approach, from the music selection to the grey walls. The decor unfortunately feels a little bland.

Overall, I'll be happy to return. They definitely have a great selection of food to choose from.

Great time with friends and co-workers. More than enough food and a different way to experience a dinner. Wish there was a place to put shells and trash . Six at the table can make a big mess.

Update:They used to have very flavorful spicy broth. But unfortunately, it wasn't the same few days ago. It was a pure "tastebute terrorism!! A cacophony of poorly chosen ingredients fighting for its dominance , Gastronomical abomination!!"
I'm not sure what happened. But even after I added tomyum paste, bunch of kimchi, salt and garlic, it wasn't great...I hope they fix the broth or I don't see any people will ever enjoy their hotpot. Also their meat is sliced way thick for hotpot and need more options for sauces
I didn't have their grill so can't speak about that.

Their sushi and ice cream was the only delicious things I had.

Their spicy hotpot broth was on point! I wish they had more sauce option like creamy sesame sauce, Tom yum sauce, and creamy peanut sauce. Also, I prefer my meat very thinly sliced but their meat was a bit thick for my liking.

Pretty good KBBQ, they have alot of great options and selection. The food is fresh and comes out fairly quickly. I would just prefer dedicated vent hoods for each table.

Wasn't impressed. The food was subpar, the server was obnoxious, she was yelling from the bar if we needed anything instead of of coming to the table, the manager was rude, and the price is ridiculously high. Won't be back and would not recommend.

We have come here plenty of times and this is the first time we were truly disappointed. The Hotpot and BBQ were amazing as always. The sushi was very sorely lacking tonight. We ordered a few rolls and only got part of the order in a timely manner. IF you want sushi do not come here go to Wako or Sushi Masa.

It was an experience. You cook the food yourself, which is interesting. I would advise you to take a look at the bar they have set up with dips, sauces, etc. There is oil that you can use for the cooking but you may find something else.

You will leave this place smelling as if you have taken a bath in pork lard due to all the BBQ grills cooking at the same time and the steam going to your clothes. Your car will need shampoo after that. My only positive experience here was having a well trained and courteous server. The food is very expensive considering the low quality. The BBQ grill on your table is designed too small, so that you spend more time cooking and eating less (good business model, for the owners of course). The calamari tasted like gum (definitely not from the ocean or even a farm). Sushi had too much rice and very little protein. Meats look and tasted cheap. Not thanks!

I really don't understand the five star reviews of this place. I'm pretty sure most of the good reviews were given some sort of promotion. There's no way anyone who has been to any other Korean barbecue could call this acceptable much less good. It is bright, the atmosphere is awful, the music is so loud you cannot hear yourself and doesn't make any sense to the rest of the atmosphere. You have multiple tvs playing multiple things. It's honestly just so much. It's so loud and so bright and the food is bad. Not a single Korean person was involved in this restaurant. I'm not sure what the kimchi was, it tasted like some tobacco sauce on cabbage, but it was not kimchi just like none of the flavor or seasoning on the food was good or correct. Save your money. I spent a hundred dollars for three people it was not worth it I just left disappointed. The server was friendly and quick. That was literally the only good thing about the restaurant.

The food was good. The service left a great deal to be desired. This was our first time there and very little explanation was given by our waitress, fail #1. She only changed the grill out once, so the food was tasting very charred throughout most of the meal, fail #2. The little packs of imitation butter they give you to put on the grill do not work! First of all, they don't give you a utensil to remove the "butter" from the container, fail #3. Then when you do finally manage to squeeze out a bit of "butter", it melts very quickly and runs down into the holes on the side before you can spread it around, fail #4. Since you cannot get the "butter" out of the container or spread it on the grill, your meat inevitably gets glued to the grill, so good luck getting it off, fail #5. There was not enough room on the table for all the plates that got brought out, fail #6. We had to keep shuffling plates around. This may not have been such a problem if the waitress had given a more thorough explanation of the process and the size of the plates and the portion sizes that would be coming out, fail #7. The price tag of $80 without tips for two people to eat, is far too much money for what you get, fail #8. I would rather spend that kind of money eating at a higher end restaurant with a nicer atmosphere, and where I don't have to figure out the menu and then cook my own food. I might go back if a group of friends wants to go, but otherwise, it's a hard pass for me.

The first time going, I thought it was pretty good. BUT the second time is when I realized I was LACKING the whole experience because our waitress the first time DID NOT explain in detail about the whole side bar thing. We were not aware there was a side bar with extra items and desert that we could get up and get. ALSO, the first time, we stopped ordering because the pan got burnt and we didn't want to continue cooking on it... well the second time, that waitress replaced it for us!!! SO the place is great, the first waitress NOT SO MUCH.

This was our 1st time here and this place was recommended to us by our friends. I will say this place is so worth it. Everything from the food to the amazing Service was outstanding. Our server Amanda was so knowledgeable and answered any and all questions we had about our experience. I will say we will definitely return. But I will definitely leave the kids with a babysitter. My Korean wife and I tried the place out today. A bit of a drive from Crestview. We were not disappointed at all. The wife wanted soup, so it cost an extra $10, but it was worth it to see her happy. $90 meal for 2 (including tip), but well worth it. We had to make our own blend of spicy bean paste. This was a Korean experience, and I estimate about the price that we would pay in Korea for the similar meal. We strongly recommend, and I can see this becoming a regular outing for us.
Added: Our waitress was Crystal. What a charming young lady with a great personality & sense of humor.
Update: My wife & I have been there 5 times now, and today was perhaps our best experience, partly because we are now familiar and understand the process better each time that we go, and our server Amanda was on the spot, engaging with us and making sure that we have everything that we needed. It is so much better when you know what to expect and how to get through the details. I always have a hard time with the touch screens, and it may be because of my dry fingertips. A pleasant environment with some cool stuff on the multiple TV screens (CHIVE). This has become a regular dining out experience for us.

My wife and had a very good and interesting experience. This was our first experience at this Korean restaurant. The staff were knowledgeable and very accommodating. The grill was noticeably more appetizing than the hot pot offering. The quality of the seafood (especially the shrimp) was very high. The sliced ribeye beef and sliced lamb were enjoyable and tasty. The veggies that complement the other grill ingredients are varied , fresh and enjoyable. The sushi was a bit bland but asking for some wasabi improved that. They have more than enough sauces (ranging from Korean to multiple Chinese provinces to Japanese) that go well with the grill and should satisfy most preferences. In short, if you are a foodie, it’s fun!

I went back a second time and this place was MUCH better. It was a weekend, Saturday, so possibly this made a difference but still, the quality, etc. should be great no matter what day or time. Good job! But some advice: stay consistent. If I want to take friends or family here when they come into town, it's important.

Just awful all the way around. We were greeted by a nasty and rude hostess who didn’t actually even greet us verbally. Clearly annoyed that we were only a two top. The entire building smells like burned food, smoke everywhere. I’ve been to plenty of Korean BBQ and this is not normal. Our table was sticky, our server was rude and pushy. Clearly didn’t want to be there or explain anything. We did the hot pot, the broth was absolutely flavorless, the vegetables and meat were ridiculous. They offer “pork belly” which is just raw bacon, 3 tiny fake lobster meatballs, unwashed bok choy. Someone’s hair in my rice, and an angry busboy slamming dishes around between the tables and the disgusting dish bin that was sloshing around the dinning room throughout the meal. Such ambiance. Absolutely no one seemed to be in charge, no sign of any manager presence. No one bothering to thank any guests for choosing to spend their inflation racked money in this establishment. Probably has something to do with the poor attitudes and complete absence of any recognizable sense of hospitality. Outrageously over priced for what you get, this isn’t a restaurant, it’s a bus station that serves really disappointing and overpriced food.

What a difference between this visit and the last. Hard to believe there is no hot water in this restaurant. Ask for hot water, was just told "no". No tea? Coffee? In a korean restaurant? Server was just rude like we were an inconvenience. No one working seemed to be in a good mood. Just moping and unhappy looking. Whenever I looked for someone, everyone was on their phones in the server area. Had to find my server to pay our check. Tablet didn't work for "call my server". This was not our experience the first time. Food was ok. Sushi was good. Need to include ginger and Wasabi like every other sushi place on the planet. Won't be returning. Oh, and fruit flies and bugs all over the sauces area.

Tiffany was great at explaining how things worked, and it was a fun experience. The hot pot broth could have been a little more flavorful, but was improved by the addition of soy sauce and fresh garlic from the sauce bar. I enjoyed the shrimp dumplings especially. The sushi was fairly mediocre. I also was too short for the booth/table which likely has to be so large to accommodate the cooking apparatus underneath, so really something to consider if you have young kids or are a petite person

We come to HQ all the time, definitely worth the hour drive one way. What makes it worth it? The quality of the food is amazing but Kristine as our waiter pushed the experience over the edge! The sushi was actually pretty 🔥 I wasn't expecting much since it's a AYCE and they don't "specialize in sushi" but if you had to choose between the three AYCE places you can eat here wako, masa, and HQ. It's HQ all day and their sushi is better than the two sushi places which is sad. But HQ ALL DAY. Love this place and will continue to keep supporting this establishment.

We went back last night after a not so stellar experience in July. It was awesome!! Great service and they took great care of us. Ty HQ!!

1st visit: Awesome restaurant with a wide variety of food items. You pick what you want and they bring it out to you really fast.

We had crab legs, oysters, pork belly, ribeye, filet mignon, bulgogi, and lots of sides.

The only downside is they don't know which meats are what when they bring it out and they forgot the ribeye.

Food and service are always great. The atmosphere is a bit strange though with the club style music playing in the background, bright neon lights everywhere and weird stuff playing on the TV. Sort of think the atmosphere is meant to subconsciously get you to speed up your time in the seat and get you out of there.

We recently visited HQ Korean BBQ & Hot Pot in Pensacola for the first time, and we were absolutely blown away! The all-you-can-eat model is amazing, with excellent quality food and delicious meat. Cooking your own meat on the grill is such a fun experience, and they have a huge selection of soups for the hot pot, where you can control your own temperature.

We went for lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find out that the lunch price is $10 cheaper on weekdays than the dinner price. If you get there before 3:30 pm, you can take advantage of the lower price, although the lunch menu is a bit more limited compared to dinner.

Ordering everything on the touch screen at the table was super convenient, and the food was brought to us very quickly. They do charge $14/lb for any food you waste, but I was told this isn’t enforced unless you’re truly wasting a lot of food.

The service was excellent, and we will would like to go back again but it is very expensive. It's a great selection of quality of food, but again is very pricey. There is also a two hour limit, which, for the price is kind of limiting. Highly recommend checking it out for a special occasion!

**UPDATE**
We attempted to go back, and after calculating how much it would have been with the whole family of 4 (3 adults, 1 child) (Approximately $180 with tax/tip), we opted to go elsewhere as although the food is incredible, service, is awesome, and the experience is fun, the price is hard to justify, especially with a couple of kids. They charge adult/child based on height, so a child may have to pay the adult cost if they are tall for their age. I feel this is probably a great place for a couple to go, but if you're bringing a family it gets very expensive.

The BBQ and sushi were good but the hot pot was awful and they brought out so much of each hot pot item and they charge for waste so we ended up having to fill up on the hot pot and not getting to have the stuff that was actually good. The soup base was flavorless. They don’t have teriyaki sauce and most of the sauce they have is not sauce that I would like. They have almost no spices available, just sauces. Every thing they brought out was way more than expected especially since they charge for waste. Order quail eggs and they brought 4 of them. Order the monster meatballs (absolutely disgusting and also a bad texture) and they brought 4 giant ones. Everything was just way over portioned considering you didn’t know if you would like it. Ordered the calamari to try for one person and they brought out about 2 cups worth of it.

We were seated right by the blue neon light area where it was a hard to see everything cooked right. If we go again here, I would definitely ask them for the booth by the window with a natural rights. Ordering with the touch panel was neat and convenient. Server was nice and attentive. My boyfriend and I visited yesterday for our second time, and once again, we were thoroughly impressed. Right as we arrived, I couldn’t help but notice how impeccably clean the restaurant always is. We were seated promptly and warmly welcomed by our waitress, Kristine, who has served us on both visits.
